a healer, that was your job.

ever since you took a step into the camp, you were given a role and that role is what you were going to do. heal and protect others, that is your purpose.

it was going to be easy. how hard could it be? heal some cuts here and there, maybe a sprained ankle when luke went too rough on another camper.

that’s what you thought it was gonna be. that’s what it was meant to be.

the events of that day still run circles in your mind. you should’ve done more, you could have. it was hard for everyone of course it was. grover failed at his job, luke and annabeth lost their sister. it was selfish thinking like this wasn’t it? to feel like you were the one taking it the hardest.

a sigh comes out shakily from your throat as you stand infront of thalia. your hand drags along the rough wooden exterior that once used to be her skin. trailing down you feel the gritty moss beneath your touch and you remember her soft hair, her laugh, her eyes. it was self torture thinking like this. you knew that.

but you were a healer.

why couldn’t you heal her back to normal? people at camp- no even chiron said that your powers are some of the best he’s ever seen so why the fuck can you not heal her back to normal? why in that moment you couldn’t have had some instinct to heal her? what was wrong with you? you had every chance to save thalia,

why did you not take it?

before you realise it tears stream down your face and your knelt infront of the solid lumber which was once your friend, your sister. on both knees you cry into your hands. thalia was gone and you failed your whole purpose.

you heal people.

you lost count of how long it was since you came to see thalia. had it been 20 minutes? maybe an hour? you didn’t know. you stood yourself up now, tears still silently rolling down your cheeks. you were stuck in your head for what felt like weeks, years almost. you came to do this often, to see thalia. to try and erase the guilt that built in your stomach and plagued your mind every living moment of every living day.

you were sick and you were tired, exhausted if you must. you wished she would wake up, gods you wished you would wake up and this would all be some batshit hallucination. but alas, the gods don’t respond to such calls.

you feel a breeze hit you, it wasn’t cold but you still shivered at the feeling. you close your eyes hoping for something to happen. you wait,

one second,

then two,

then th- are those arms around your waist right now?

“shit!” you jump, feeling two strong arms curl around your waist. turning around your met with the goofy smile of luke castellan. “sorry, sunshine.” he laughs softly, quickly you raise your hands to your face wiping your eyes and he tuts his tongue at you. “why are you hiding away from me?” luke pouts at you, one arm secured around your middle while his other hand reaches to your face cupping your cheek.

“what are you doing out here?” you say clearing your throat to stable your voice. “i’m here to make sure your not in your head.” he grabs the top of your head and shakes it about and you swat away his hands with a soft “quit it.”

“i was just about to head back in” you say, let me rephrase that. you- “your lying.” he says and quite literally takes the words out of my mouth.

“we all wish we could’ve saved her, sunshine.” luke coos, standing next to you now. his hand now securely on your shoulder pulling you close to comfort you. it was ironic calling you sunshine honestly. yeah your dad was apollo, greek god of sun and light, but your light was dimmer compared to your bright and bouncy siblings. a rough sigh escapes your throat and you hang your head low, “i could’ve done more. i should have luke you don’t get it.” you murmured.

luke looks at you worriedly, his hand rubbing your shoulder warmly. “we all wish that, sunny.” another contridictive nickname. “i know what is going on in that brain of yours you know.” luke’s the one that sighed now. “you know your abilities a lot more deeply now, you were a kid back then. we all were, you can’t keep blaming yourself for things that a kid who was barely a teenager could have never done.” luke emphasised, his eyes drawing from thalia to look at you.

“she isn’t even dead, sunshine.” luke smiles solemnly at you, his lips forming a tight line before the corners of it rise. “she’s right here.” his hand touches the bark of the tree. “right here with all of us.”

luke’s hands draw to both of your shoulders and he turns your body so both of you are face to face. “no matter how strong someone is, you can’t save everyone.” he nods sadly, “i know you wish you could, but you can’t.” he bites his inner cheek to stop his own tears from pooling out. “sun-“ before he could finish that sentence your arms were around him, embracing him softly. no words had to be spoken for luke to just hug you back. soft sobs escaping your throat as you cry into his warm body.

you two stood there for a while but that didn’t matter to him, he was your friend and he was your pillar in this time of need. no matter how wet his tshirt was right now, it didn’t matter. luke would rather stand there and hug you for a century, for a millenia, for fucking ever if that meant that you were gonna be okay. he’ll be there right by your side through everything. you’ll heal every one of his cuts and he’ll fight the ares kid that makes fun of you during capture the flag and then you’ll bake him blue cupcakes as a thank you.

and despite not being able to save your sister, thalia. you vow to never let anyone else go through that. you were a healer and you will heal others and yourself for her.

What I hope to see in PJO TV Episode 6

I’m guessing the episode is gonna cover the chapters “We Take a Zebra to Vegas” and “We Shop for Water Beds". So I made a list of things that are in the book/story beats and could be included. Hoping for more book accuracy this time tbh.

The animal transport

-The zebra, the albino lion and the antelope. I saw an ostrich I think in the trailer so maybe that’s an addition but I don’t know why they would change the original animals

-The animals having the wrong food and the trio changing that, taking care of them, giving them water, cutting off the balloon etc

-Grover getting angry about that and maybe even trying to leave to start a fight with the drivers. Did they mention he’s a vegetarian yet?

-Grover talking to the animals (I’m still hoping for goat noises)

-Since the spiders were cut out of the waterpark scene maybe it will come up some other way? Since Percy uses it to help Annabeth snap out of the Lotus Casino trance. + the Athena/Arachne story

-”We’re a team, remember?” (even though I wished they would have shown that teamwork of the trio in the waterpark)

-Annabeth and Percy sharing an Oreo

-I guess they will not talk about Thalia and Grover because Percy already knows and they cut out the Iris message scene where Luke mentions it. So I wonder if they will talk about something else. Maybe more Annabeth backstory/her family. Maybe Annabeth and Percy uplifting Grover.

-Since they cut the Poseidon/Athena rivalry discussion I guess there will be no ‘I don’t know what my mom will do. I just know I’ll fight next to you.” “Why?” “Because you’re my friend, Seaweed Brain. Any more stupid questions?” Maybe there will be a similar scene

-Percy dreaming about Thalia and Luke and Kronos and his mother in front of Hades’ throne

-Annabeth has the idea to use the casino cards for a cab

-The cab driver calls Annabeth “Your Highness” after seeing the infinite money

-Percy tells the trio about his dream and they start to realize something’s wrong because they were talking about two items, but they settle for “It has to be Hades” for now

-”You have evil thoughts for a goat.” “Why, thank you.”

-Percy walking into the sea in Santa Monica and letting a shark take him further to the edge of a huge chasm (could look super cool)

-The nereid riding on a sea horse

-Percy having flashbacks to seeing faces in the sea when he was a kid because she said they were watching him

-The nereid telling Percy to not judge his father and that they are not allowed to show favoritism

-She giving him the three pearls and explaining how they work

-”You have gifts you have only begun to know. The oracles have foretold a great and terrible future for you, should you survive to manhood.”

-In the Mississippi she said “don’t trust the gifts” so maybe she will say it now? Referencing Luke’s shoes and hinting again at his betrayal.

Damn I’ve been seeing a good bit of criticism about the pjo show and while everyone can have their opinions on it, so can I. So. (Lemme warn yall this is gonna be a long one)

I’ve seen a lot about how things are being figured out too easily in the show and it’s taking the mystery out of the scenes from the book (i.e. the lotus casino, “aunty em” being Medusa, etc). What this boils down to (to me at least) is that people think the trio is.. too smart??

I get where they’re coming from but if anything? I think that makes everything in the show better compared to the books for a few reasons:

they can focus more on keeping season 1 character-centric and story-driven instead of constantly about action (which sets a lot up for the next 4 seasons when they can dive into all the action because the characters and their motivations/personalities have already been fleshed out and established)

(and much more importantly) the trio is supposed to be smart and somewhat prepared for this quest

Like i get the whole “they’re 12 year old kids” argument but we’re forgetting that they’re not regular kids. Because they do suck at regular people stuff: Percy sucks at driving (ik he’s a kid still), they have a hard time communicating with each other, their relationships are rocky as hell for a while, they don’t do well with listening to or respecting authority figures.

But when it comes to the demigod stuff? There’s a reason they’re all so good at it. For one, it’s explained that the same ADHD and dyslexia that makes their regular lives so difficult, makes it easier to function in the mythic world. And when it comes to each character, lemme go through them one by one.

Annabeth: the literal daughter of the goddess of wisdom and strategy. the girl who learned on her own how to survive using nothing but her quick thinking and wits at 7 years old before being picked up by Luke and Thalia. the girl who spent 5 years training and learning everything she could in hopes of getting a quest to prove herself. and then on top of that, that pride she’s got just pushes her even more to be the smartest and bravest version of herself.

Grover: the satyr whose literal job description is to be a protector of demigods, which means he’s been trained just as much, if not more than annabeth and taught everything he needs to know to shield these demigods while they’re in the real world. He’s smart, adaptable, strong, and has the added advantage of increased senses and a connection to nature and animals that comes in handy.

Percy: whose mother spent his entire life preparing him for this life, knowing one day he was gonna have to do all of this himself. She told him all the stories. She knew as a son of Poseidon, he was gonna have to face all kinds of gods and dangers. And he does constantly use what he’s been taught to get him through whatever he faces. The only reason he seems inexperienced is because he is. He’s only been a demigod for a week at this point. But both Grover and annabeths experience more than make up for this. Because they’re a team and they travel and fight together as one.

They may be 12 year old kids, but they’re not regular people like the rest of us. They’re demigods. And they might still have a lot to learn, but they’re still demigods. They have training! They have amazing instincts! They know the history! The stories!! The Greek tragedies!!! They learned them so that they don’t repeat the same mistakes their ancestors made, and they used that to their advantage at every stage of their quest so far.

So yeah, I’m glad they’re smart enough to know when they’re about to walk into a trap. And I’d hope to god they use these advantages at their disposal, because nothing else they face is gonna be easy regardless. They have no choice but to be ready, it’s literally life or death.

At the end of the day, a complete copy of the book would be so boring as a show. We already read the books. We know what happens. So the changes they’ve made so far have really just been for the better. I love watching smart protagonists that don’t make me yell at the tv when they miss the glaringly obvious!!

something i think is extremely funny but also sad about the broken trio (luke, thalia, annabeth ft. grover) is that the levels of attachment among the three of them are,,, simply not the same HHAHAHAH as much as we love the ‘found family that would die for each other and would be forever together if the tragic events of canon didn’t happen’

like,,, luke is shown in-text (Diary of Luke Castellan) to just. unilaterally decide that they’re a family and he’s gonna be the dad of the bunch because someone has to make up for what they don’t have. talk about projection. 

annabeth was with them for two? three? weeks before they made it to camp half-blood. naturally, she had the five years between then and TLT to bond with luke at camp but thalia has been basically pedestalized in her memory because of her sacrifice. i love my traumatized attachment issues girl

thalia on the other hand has the energy of that teenage next door girl who’s doing a favor for her bestie to babysit his younger sibling WAHAKSDFJASDHS

and let’s not even talk about grover they were his first job and a hella traumatic one sure but all in all, still a few days’ job god bless

The fact that Poseidon showed up for Sally when she prayed to him?! MAN this is a change I can stand by. It shows so much more depth to Poseidon’s character, shows that he is fully aware of how much his family sucks but that he is still bound by its rules. He is still powerless to stand up to the norms of Olympus. He knows he can’t interfere in Percy’s life because it would be 1. Acknowledging that he’s his son and 2. Would make him a target for an insta kill like Zeus killed Maria Di Angelo & tried to kill Bianca and Nico. Don’t tell me Poseidon didn’t know about that.

I am really interested in the moment on the Fields of Asphodel when Annabeth gets rooted to the ground by regret. This is a significant change from the books and honestly I liked this one too. Especially Annabeth’s line, “I trust your dad.” If you noticed, she calls Athena, “mother” but she calls Poseidon Percy’s “dad.” It is doing so much set up with just two simple words.

But also! What is she rooted by? Regret for Thalia’s death? She was six! Regret for Percy getting turned into gold? He did that shit intentionally. Honestly there’s so much that baby Annabeth could be regretting but I think it’s Thalia’s death. Especially because she’s seeing what happens after death here. So she can’t help but imagine her friend Thalia. Being turned into a tree in life. To prevent her from… being turned into a tree, only in death.

And of course there’s Elysium and rebirth and the fields of punishment. But most people go to the fields of Asphodel.

The change of the Fields of Asphodel having people wander around aimlessly to being turned into trees rooted to the ground unmoving is interesting. It felt a little like an intentional parallel to Thalia. But I wonder if it’s based in any Greek myth lore

Grover being eaten by Cerberus not gonna lie I was worried about our resident goat boy!! But it makes sense for him to be the one to lose his pearl. Even though it also could’ve worked with Annabeth

Not gonna lie I was a little disappointed that Annabeth wasn’t the one to almost fall into Tartarus instead of Grover. That would’ve been an AMAZING parallel to the fall into Tartarus later in the series. Heroes of Olympus.

Hades is characterized a little differently. More friendly? More animated? Lmao lively. He gives queer or metrosexual energy. He still has his unbothered attitude about the godly affairs which sets him apart from other Olympians

CRUSTY’S. Okay. I was excited that they included the scene with Crusty. But again, I felt like it was another moment of “Percy knows too much”. He immediately knew who Crusty was, I assume because Hermes told him. He knew how the bed trap worked. He knew about the secret passage to the underworld. I just. I don’t like how the series just GIVES Percy and the trio so much information or they just HAVE it. It’s one of my biggest critiques of the show. Give me clueless Percy asking Annabeth who someone is from Greek myths. Give me Annabeth’s AHA moment when she remembers a Greek myth and puts in context with their situation. I wanna see the trio being so fucking confused and have to work to figure out who they’re up against.

Even Percy realizing that it’s Kronos in his dreams! It felt like something mundane and not a big revelation.

I like the gold percy and gold Sally Jackson parallel. That was good.

I’m so excited to see Percy kick so God of War ass (well, ankle) next episode!

“ares” i whispered under my breath as i stood next to luke “hey cousin…nephew” the god eyes scanned both of us “what do you want ares” luke groaned rolling his eyes in annoyance

“a fight castellan…one simple fight” ares grinned cracking his knuckles then cracking his neck “oh really then…you’re gonna regret that request uncle” luke smirked while pushing me behind him “luke n-“ i was cut off by the god laughing “not you buddy…her” his leather glove pointed out towards me making my eyes widen in fear

“scared now castellan…blame her brother thinking he can get away with beating me THE god of war yeah i don’t think so, time for percy to pay the price…and that means his sister” ares explained waiting for one of us to say anything “touch her and you die” luke hissed his eyes lowering like darkness was taking over him “luke stop let me do this” i stepped up from behind him trying to negotiate

“hell no y/n i am not letting you get hurt” luke argued “ill be fine…trust me please” i grab his cheek pulling him down placing a kiss on his forehead before quickly grabbing the sword from his pocket stepping forward ready to fight

“come at me you son of a bitch/zeus” i yelled holding up my sword “you dumb girl” ares said before charging at me full force as i did the same

when we finally reached each other ares swung his sword at my neck barely missing my throat but enough to make me wince im pain at the mark the blade left “I’m gonna kill you-“ luke started to charge at ares when i got up stopping him “luke stay back” i groaned taking my hand of the wound letting blood smear on my neck “come on i know you can do better…cuz” i smirked as ares got angrier going in for another swipe to my neck when i dodged it sliding on my knees under him getting grass stains on my jeans

i stood up behind him slicing his leg deep making him yelp in pain as gold liquid spilled out the fresh cut i gave him “not so fun isn’t it” i asked spinning my sword in my hand stabbing him in the back

i quickly pulled out my blade before walking in front of him as he was still down “give us the apple…coward” i bent down to his ear level whispering making him groan in annoyance he then reached in his pocket pulling out a shiny gold fruit handing it to me. Sitting up he got up in his legs again making me step back a little “more mouthy then your brother” ares commented using his sword as a cane to hold himself up as he compared me to my brother “get it from my mom” i said grinning as luke stood next to me wrapping his arm around my waist pulling me closer “we have to get back to camp now uncle” luke said grabbing the apple from my hand tossing it as we stood grassy grown

we finally made it back to camp with minor cuts a scraps “ready” luke turned to me holding my hand “ready as ill ever be..but we did this for thalia” i reminded him “i know now lets go” he said turning his head towards the entrance

we stepped through the portal making a woosh noise when abrupt claps came from the campers cheering us on when someone brought me in a tight squeeze making me let my hand let go if luke’s

“i’m so glad you guys aren’t dead” annabeth whispered squeezing me even tighter “ann your killing me” i said running out of air she quickly pulled away “sorry i’m just glad you guys are back” she smiled grover and percy coming up behind her “percy” i yelped relief of seeing my baby brother hugging him “hey sis i missed you” he said hugging me back before pulling apart “can’t wait for you to tell me all about the quest” he said giving me a small smile

All the campers stood around the tree Chiron and Mr D infront with me Luke Annabeth Percy and Grover “luke the apple” Chiron said nodding his head towards the tree queuing Luke to squeeze the apple

Luke pulled the apple apart squeezing the juice on the bark making it glowing yellow “what’s happening” percy asked “it’s working” I said luke holding me by my waist when we hear a groan

“where am i?” a voice spoke getting all if our attention

but like when i'm 6 thalia leaves our bio mom and she comes to find me, then we find annabeth and luke and make it to camp like how the story goes

i stay at camp year round with luke and annabeth cause they're like my siblings (i literally love annabeth so much.)

i didn't end up getting claimed when we made it to camp, on the way thalia just explained we had the same mother not father cause idk guys it's just the story ‼️🔥 so i go unclaimed and stay in cabin 11

i also help tour almost all the new kids (i scripted im the nicest person at camp 😕)

anyways, that's like the backstory, uhm the day it'll be for me like on my first shift is the day percy gets there cause my entire world revolves around him guys 😭⁉️

first day:

so it's like i scripted i had a panic attack or something the night before (guys i have panic attacks here too pls do NOT flame me for this one) so i wake up in a medic room alone cause i do NOT wanna be surrounded by all the campers. guys pls dont flame me im so scared i dont like hate 😭🙏🙏

so anyways, i kinda meet percy, annabeth tells me about him cause she's been helping out (oh btw im dating percy, percabeth has no chemistry im sorry gang pls don't flame me) so like i go back to cabin 11 and hangout with my hermes' pals. then like eventually chiron brings percy to cabin 11, and luke calls me over to help tour him and percy and i click instantly! anyways we hangout over the next few days

capture the flag eventually happens, (guys don't flame me i take a lot of annabeths storylines pleasseee don't flame me i get it enough) so like percy gets claimed [ALSO I SCRIPTED IM LIKE AMAZING AT TELLING GODLY PARENTS SO I SUSPECTED IT FROM THE START THAT HE WAS POSEIDONS KID - also cause the bathroom stunt guys] and then I GET CLAIMED ⁉️⁉️ (main character syndrome sorry)

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS DISNEY + (2023) SPOILERS AHEAD

Okay, I watched the first two episodes of the series...and I have....thoughts.

ALSO THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK SERIES, SO IF YOU'RE WAITING TO READ THE BOOKS UNTIL AFTER THE SHOW, BE WARNED

I don't remember everything I reacted to, but here are some major ones. I'm going to start off with the negative points because I need to get them off my chest, so if you don't want to read the negativity, then here is your warning to leave.

My first issue has always been with the casting.

The main issue that Percy is blond. I'm biased because the POWER dark haired Percy held over all the fangirls because the black hair, green eyes combo had them (myself included) in a chokehold. Like, Percy Jackson is literally the basis for my type in men. Dark hair, green eyes. Also, Sally says that Percy looks like his father in the books, so what's Poseidon going to look like.

Also Luke is brunette, and he's supposed to be blond, which is significant because he's, like, the perfect all-American boy with a white house in Connecticut. He's met his dad, unlike the other campers, and he's a white blond boy with an athletic build and blue eyes. His main thing is that he CHOSE this life despite having it better than many other campers. Also, there are MANY parallels to (Heroes of Olympus Spoilers) Jason in the Heroes of Olympus. They are basically foils of each other. Luke is kinda like Jason's evil twin. Because Jason is also the all-American blond boy with blue eyes who had reason to go rogue (being abandoned by his mother), but he didn't.

AND, there's supposed to be a stark contrast between Jason and Thalia with her having dark hair and him having blond, but they share the same eyes. So, either Jason and Luke aren't going to look alike, or Jason is going to look different, and defeats the purpose of his contrast with Thalia.

Another issue I had was with the characterization

Many things felt wrong, and it took me several hours to realize they made everyone WAY more confident than normal.

In the books, a constant struggle (even into HoO) is that Percy is always seen in a certain light and even when he's accomplished things, internally he thinks "I'm not as great as you think, guys". He's always been self-conscious about his abilities, his leadership, his authority, and even his appearance. But in the tv show he's like "I'm gonna find my dad and MAKE him notice me because he owes me that much". Percy has always believed that people think he's better than he is and that he will let them down. He constantly compares himself to Luke and Jason.

Annabeth is also more sure of herself. In the books she acts tough, but it's to cover up the fact that she's had to prove herself her whole life to be worth something. She has to prove to her mom/Chiron that she is worthy enough to go on a quest, she had to prove that she could be head counselor, and she struggled with people underestimating her (appearances aside, because those still can be said with Leah as the actress). She's always felt like she needed to do better and achieve more to fully feel her worth.

And Grover in the books is supposed to be timid and awkward. And he makes jokes in poor taste because he's nervous, and usually he's described as anxious, but they don't show that in the tv show. He eats tin cans and furniture when he's nervous. He doesn't believe that Percy should trust him, and he's still holding onto the guilt from Thalia (Though more of this could be shown through the next few episodes). He always thinks that Annabeth and Percy would be better without him.

ANOTHER THING. They took out Grover's crutches because he's supposed to walk weird due to him being a satyr, so he uses braces/crutches. I hate to say it, but man, even the MOVIES had that little bit of lore. I know, I know, it would've been hard to show in that time span, but come on.

Even Sally has a huge character arc which goes from putting up with her Gabe, though with some quiet acts of rebellion--blue food--to turning him to stone with the head of Medusa in the end. But in the tv series, she yells back and gets into verbal disagreements with him boldly. She's portrayed as having more power than she did in the book. Like, in the book, she convinced Gabe to let them take the car out very gently and with bribing him with his favorite dip, almost how you would act around a bomb, being careful what she said because both she and Percy knew that he could

*trigger warning* fly off the handles and abuse them if he was feeling a certain way. He's stated to have hit her before. THAT IS A TRAUMA RESPONSE *trigger warning end*

But in the tv show, she seems more...girl-boss-ish. She raises her voice to meet his. I don't know. To me, Sally has always been, quietly strong. Like a stone. She isn't loud like a firework, though she can be, but she has the determination that isn't heard but seen. Also they had her (who canonically listens to like the White Stripes) listen to "logical" by Olivia Rodrigo…like what? I'm hoping that was just background music and not what she was actually listening to.

Gabe also just felt...off. I think it's because Disney can't show physical abuse because it's Disney, so they had to make him seem like a jerk a different way, but he kinda just felt like a bum, rather than someone who actively bullied Percy. Like, he tried to coerce Percy into giving him poker money in the book. He's also hurt Percy and told Percy not to tell his mother or else it would be worse. Like, Gabe is seriously TERRIBLE.

The last thing I had issues with was plot points that were changed when they could have been kept

Luke had a weird obsession with glory, that I don't really understand. That was even their capture the flag chant.

The whole bathroom scene was WRONG because Annabeth was the one who was supposed to be showing him around camp, and she was with him with Clarisse dragged him into the bathroom during their tour. I don't understand why they pushed back Annabeth and Percy's official meeting as far as they did.

I admit, the scene where Percy was supposed to be on watch but was instead doing the floss dance, sleeping, looking at a gecko was entertaining, but in the novel he was more nervous than anything.

Also, they took out the hellhound scene (after they win capture the flag but before Percy gets claimed)...which in the grand scheme of things probably wasn't that bad, but it sets up for Luke's betrayal later. Because monsters can't get beyond the border unless someone summons them, and it's revealed at the end of book that Luke summoned the hellhound that attacked Percy, and that's the catalyst for sending Percy on the quest.

This one, I will acknowledge for saving time and not drawing it out, but the whole scene where Sally was explaining what a demigod felt wrong. Percy is confused for a good portion of the novel because he's trying to figure stuff out, but it seems like he gets a crash course in demigodliness from Sally, and that takes out his utter confusion.

Also, Grover was supposed to be passed out during the Minotaur scene, and Percy has to drag him up the hill. There was a major point of the Council of the Cloven Elders shaming Grover for being unconscious while taking his ward into camp. AND GROVER doesn't know what happened to Sally. Why was that plot point in there. It was supposed to be motivation for Percy to go on the quest, but, like, the whole reason was because Chiron didn't believe camp was safe, due to the aforementioned hellhound.

EDIT: ALSO THE SCENE WITH MRS. DODD'S WAS WEIRD. In the book, she took him into a different part of the museum so it would be easier for her to attack him without people around. But in the series...it just happened. And Mr. Brunner gave him the pen long before. I wanted the scene where he came in and said "what ho! Percy" and threw him the pen. AND, there wasn't the bit where Mr. Brunner was asking the class questions about Kronos and his kids and Percy answers, giving more foreshadowing to his Greek myth heritage. And the aftermath where Grover lies about what Percy did to Nancy Bobofit. It made the rift between them seem so much bigger.

Edit (2): I DON'T LIKE HOW THEY TOOK OUT THE NECTAR AND AMBROSIA SCENE. That scene was so cute because he's a mama's boy and he's like "they taste like my mom's chocolate chip cookies".

Edit (3): I hope this is the last one, but I keep remembering stuff. The weird cut scenes where commercials would go if it were on TV. Those transitions could be smoother, and the "cut to black" is just really abrupt, and it kinda kills the vibe.

Edit (4): I really really hope this is the last one. But the only thing I have against Gabe not having a job and only playing poker online (though I like how it just makes him seem like more of pathetic loser), is that we can't have that scene from the end of The Lightning Thief book. Where Percy gets on national television, puts on a whole act of getting choked up and the, wait I need to find the quote:

“All I want,” I said, choking back my tears, “Is to see my loving stepfather again. Everytime I saw him on TV, calling me a delinquent punk, I knew… somehow… we would be okay. And I know he’ll want to reward each and every person in this beautiful city of Los Angeles with a free major appliance from his store. Here’s the phone number.”

THIS SCENE IS A NEED.

Okay, this is getting long, so I'll do the positive things in another post. I'm sure there are other things that bothered me, but I can't remember them right now.

I'm just saying this out in the open now but there's so many things that I remain excited for by the time pjotv season 2 airs and what possible changes the writers could come up that would stir the pot even more. Obviously most fans rank book 2 in the last places not because it's boring but because the later books really gets better with regards to plot progression. But given that they already made a lot of changes for the first season that helps the overall plot of the season move along well and even improve some of the characters, I'm super curious to how they'll do season 2. One of the ideas or themes that I hope the writers would pick up on would be the Thalia flashback scenes. I want her to be highlighted so much by the next season so that it feels satisfying to see her come back to life at the end. And also a great way to have a closure about Annabeth's regret in the Fields of Asphodel as well as Grover's struggle with being reminded of his failure and how that links to his quest for Pan. It seems like they're heading that direction though which is already great. And I kinda want them to lean more into the Thalia-Luke relationship. I think there was something in there that even by reading Luke's diary it was even more apparent. And that would help with Thalia's struggle by season 3 and how deep it gets when she finally joins the Hunters. I did notice that there was a lot of emotional substance to the show than what actually happened in the first book and I realized that they are leaning into that because it also allows you to ground the characters in reality even if everything that's going on around them is superficial. And that's something that you'll notice the more you go into the future book series as well. So it just makes sense to me. And with that thought considered in the writer's room, I want to see all the emotional beats and the silliness by the characters improved as well. I want the action to be also silly that way. They could totally hit that duality.

And, one of my WORST THOUGHTS thinking about the next season would be a possible Percy-Annabeth fight when they get to the Siren Bay. I mean Percy is fighting to snap her out in that trance until he had an idea to pull her underwater right?? Why not have a riptide-cursed blade fight on Queen Anne's Revenge before she jumps overboard? It's gonna tighten up how emotional it would get for the both of them. Percy hating it the whole time while Annabeth gets aggressively desperate that she pushes back on him. And when her siren vision pops up it just hits even more. Also, I don't think we've had them swordfight against each other before(ignoring the bad movies) so that will be very interesting and painful to see.

And if the writer's would really do something as similar as this, I feel like I'll be an emotional wreck by season 2. It could help hype the show even more, get them awards or something.

This Medusa feels so different than the other one, and it's actually kinda cool hearing her tell her backstory and appear hospitable.
