SUGESTÕES DE FC: Charlie Hunnam, Daisy Edgar Jones, Richard Madden, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Jonathan Bailey.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Jaz Sinclair, Tanner Buchanan, Milly Alcock, Mason Gooding, Hailee Steinfeld, Rudy Pankow.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Emilio Sakraya, Courtney Eaton, Drew Starkey, Camila Mendes, Brandon Perea, Jessica Alexander.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Ayo Edebiri, Charlie Heaton, Alba Baptista, Michael Evans Behling, Emma Myers.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Apo Nattawin, Lizeth Selene, Santiago Segura, Lola Tung, Joseph Quinn, Madison Bailey.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Anne Hathaway, Adam DiMarco, Jodie Comer, Michael B Jordan, Zoë Kravitz, Josh O'Connor.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: David Castañeda, Rosamund Pike, Gong Yoo, Laura Harrier, Enzo Vogrincic, Gemma Chan.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Maya Hawke, Xolo Maridueña, Emily Carey, Evan Mock, Maia Reficco, Clinton Liberty.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Lucien Laviscount, Adria Arjona, Lewis Tan, Melissa Benoist, Channing Tatum.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Adeline Rudolph, Dacre Montgomery, Bruna Marquezine, Mike Faist, Jung Hoyeon.
SUGESTÕES DE FC: Callum Turner, Amita Suman, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Ella Hunt, Zain Igbal, Jessie Mei Li.

squid game season 2 thoughts (spoilers obviously)
- like i said gong yoo putting that gun in his mouth was sinful and i will be checking ao3 every few days for a good fic to pop up
- love that TOP just played himself (weirdo freak rapper who does drugs)
- minsu you sweetheart you tried but it wasn't enough. also i wanted more of se-mi cuz she was hawt but alas
- geumja is probably my favourite character. what a badass bitch, taking care of the pregnant woman, doting on hyunju, her love for her son, the KNIFE in her 비녀?? bittttch!
- hyunju (the trans woman) is such a bad bitch too she was gunning those fuckers down. wanted more of that girl she was friends with because their friendship reminded me of saebyeok and youngmi(??)
- predictable ending but at the same time very dark n sad but also leaves way too many threads loose even though i know there'll be a season 3. but still? it shouldn't have been THAT unfinished for the end of a season. just seems way too abrupt
- the infiltration and uprising angle is interesting in theory but i really don't think it works as much as season 1. this could've been 3-4 episodes TOPS and then they could've actually finished the season properly methinks. this didn't need to be a whole season. characters were not fleshed out enough. like compared to how awful ali and youngmi(?) etcs deaths were for viewers in season 1 i kinda saw people die here and went... oh ok? it didn't pack a punch as much

i also binge watched s2 of squid game and it was...mid. overall this season kind of felt like watching a burned out senior's art project: some moments of excellent inspiration, a lot of just trying to get through this (and, to be clear, i dont blame HDH for this at all)
spoilers under the cut
+'s
set design & music continues to fucking win on this show. the carousel, the lil rainbow tracks...just really incredible visual contrast carried over from the OG that works so well. having a mini war movie shoot out in this candyland escher mindfuck playground was fantastic
TOP was the perfect amount of ham in this and thanos was a scene stealer
i was pleasantly surprised that (imo) the most interesting characters of the show are all the women, especially since the cast announcements/teasers were so men-centric. hyunju, geumja, no eul, and to a lesser extent jun hui were all really interesting from the jump and/or grew on me in big ways throughout the course of the season. looooved the twist with no eul in particular. i also thought the show made interesting commentary about women being expected to carry men/shoulder their debt outside of the games (ex: 007's relationship with his mom and 333's with his girlfriend), but are constantly seen as inferior teammates inside the games by the contestants
the games that we did get to see were such a good, brutal balance of horror and whimsy
-'s
good god the pacing was so bad. there were 7 eps and at least 2 of them felt like filler. the show moved impossibly slow sometimes and not in a way that felt intentional or meaningful. the first two episodes in particular were the worst at this, the first one somewhat mitigated by letting gong yoo finally go off-the-chain ham
it felt a lot like the force awakens, in that it had a story blueprint and it was sticking to it. too many of the story beats/set-ups were near exactly the same and it fell flat for me a lot because of this
kind of related to the above point, too much cast bloat. what made the first season more compelling (imo) is that there were a lot of repeating characters, but some of them were only in focus for an ep or two and they packed a punch while they were there (for example ji yeong/240). we got to see lives more outside of the games, and the characters as a whole generally just felt more well-rounded because we were able to spend more time with them.
+/-
im hoping this one feels so off because it's meant as the first half of a season. i'll still be checking out s3 to see how it all goes
if the "tile wall = games" thing is still holding up, looks like murder monkey bars and some variation of chess are next?

happy opening, everyone! excited to introduce u to ryu chaeyun, the wolf pack skele and also professional pain in the patoots. more info will be under the cut, and i’ll be around for a while if you’d like to plot. discord is also available (and slightly preferred!)
please be warned that passive suicidal ideation is mentioned in the intro (marked w a *) & will be a general recurring theme with her character, so please proceed w caution, and do let me know if you need a sparknotes/would prefer to plot without that point!
graduated from the national university of idgafistan, with a doctorate's in idgafism and a minor’s in ijbolism. thats it, that’s all you need to know about her.
her life pre-apocalypse was pretty normal: grew up in a family of 3 with her dad and older brother. mom passed when she was young, and at mama's funeral, her grandma tells her she has shitty fate. she's literally 10 though and doesn't understand what gran's trying to say except she doesn't ever see the maternal side of her family ever again x
watched train to busan like right before the apocalypse started and decided she just wouldn't be built like gong yoo. did, and still does not have that much will to survive, but hey, she's still here!
same can't be said for her dad, who d*es in seoul qz because of a very mundane stroke. doesn't get his blood thinners on time... or at all, bc of the kdrt rationing it super strictly. her brother turns angry at the world, and somewhere in their 5 stages of grief, they make the move to the busan qz. his joining the fireflies is the natural next step for someone so full of anger towards the kdrt.
all the unprocessed grief really makes one a great member of the resistance, and he does well within the ranks of the fireflies. he goes on every mission he can, and chaeyun knows he's gone too. his body never comes back somewhere between the 10th and 20th mission. L + ratio + skill issue!
eyes turn to her, then, to carry on his legacy. problem is, she just... doesn't want to. she's happy chilling in the qz, being a silly little 21-year-old teenage girl.
a demented old lady accosts her randomly. the same shit's spouted, but this time w a twist! she's got shit astrological fate that kills the people around her. the lady's family pulls her away and apologises for her, but it lingers in the back of chaeyun's mind.
* she entertains the idea a little more than she should, and thinks everyone around her in the qz might die. has nothing more to lose (besides a delusionship over someone who barely looks her way) and if she does something useful in div4, then maybe she deserves to live.
sorry 2 everyone on the mission, 'cause she's in her terrible twos and so goddamn annoying. like, pretending to convulse and zombify annoying. pull a gun on her and she'll be like omg wow rude..... what did i ever do to u! if u can look past the chronic unseriousness then she's alright. just ur typical gen z-er.
her one strength is bouncing back from just about anything. like, she's been through. a lot. but everyday she wakes up and decides its a new day to choose violence <3
her dog is a malinois named potato (chip). better trained than her, and she loves that stupid dog so bad. classic case of tiny girl & big dog. potato sideeyes people a lot but also. is very excited and gets the zoomies 24/7 when he's not on duty. rolls over for belly rubs way 2 easy.
misc. chaeyun tingz: always has chocopies on hand. don't ask how or where she's getting them. u think she's finished the one box she's brought.. but she just keeps pulling them out. is her bag doraemon's? / very prone to nosebleeds. no reason why / keeps talking about fast food. misses mcdonald's ice cream so much. / hums under her breath. either chopin or 2016 kpop girl groups. what can she say, she's got range /
a couple plots i would like to have wld b found family.. of course. show & teach her that fate can be changed. we will all have these bitches become found family. / someone who knew her in seoul qz. can tell she's different now somehow... but can't quite put their finger on how (it's death babes x), though i'd love to brainstorm & fill any of ur wcs!

Living as an extra in an Omegaverse novel
Chapter 1
When it comes to main dishes, there is always a wine that perfectly matches them.
Like the relationship between the two main characters who are destined to fall in love. The main sub and the main gong are the relationship between the main dish and wine.
Since the main dish was followed by the main drink, the sub dish was just an appetizer that would enhance the taste of the main dish. No matter how good the appetizer is, it cannot surpass the main dish. In other words, the sub dish can never occupy the main.
"If I give this to Jin-ha, will he like it?"
The sub dish, who didn't know that, chose a gift to give to the main sub again today.
Se-hyeon looked at Shin Tae-oh, the poor guy.
Shin Tae-oh was the CEO of a construction company and came from a prestigious background, being the fifth-generation heir of a noble house. With a height of 190 centimetres, broad shoulders, a firm chest, and most importantly, a line that runs down to his perfectly sculpted buttocks, he was a man who embodied true artistry.
He was a man who had a way with words and could lead conversations quite pleasantly. When it needed to be ominous, he was ominous, and when it needed to be cute, he was cute. That man with all those qualities was my boss, Shin Tae-oh.
"He's a guy like that, so he's the sub."
Naturally, someone lacking something becomes the main, and someone who has everything becomes the sub, unable to obtain even one main.
Se-hyeon looked at the gloves that Shin Tae-oh pointed to. They say it's a new product that just came out and it costs 10 million won.
'A million won for a finger?'
Regardless of what thoughts he had in mind, Se-hyeon called an employee without showing any expression.
"Please wrap it up."
The question of whether Jin-ha would like it if he gave it to him.
In other words, that means 'buy it.'
Interpreting the meaning of the words, Se-hyeon conveyed Shin Tae-oh's instructions to the employee. A card that is in my pocket but cannot be swiped.
The employee disappeared with the card and gloves. After a while, I was handed something to pack and put in a small shopping bag, and I stood in front of President Shin Tae-oh.
"I will pass it on to Yoo Jin-ha."
"Okay." Ah, it's obvious that if I just give it, I won't receive it.
Yoo Jin-ha was an office worker at President Shin Tae-oh's company. He is a fairly conscientious employee who works in the design department and even became an assistant manager. So, the current president is currently in an unrequited love with an employee of his company.
"Your hands get cracked because it's cold, they say they give it to you because it's difficult to draw."
Stop making excuses.
Come up with something somewhat plausible. He said he was smart but always made the same excuse.
"Alright."
Although it was already visible what would happen to this armour, Se-hyeon carried out the order without saying a word.
***
Se-hyeon is the secretary. It's been over five years since I was possessed in the novel, and it's been a little less than three years since I became the president's secretary. I can't tell you how surprised I was when I first found out I was in a novel.
However, he was not the main character, nor was he a villain who would die and disappear. He knew he was just an extra and he relaxed for a while.
"At least you don't die."
My father who earns a living by doing manual labour and my mother who saves money by sewing clothes, despite their hard work, have given me love that I envy no rich man's son for. Thanks to them, it wasn't all bad for Se-hyeon, who lived as an orphan before being adopted. I gained parents and a sense of family.
Living a poor but stable life had the biggest impact on me when I started looking for a job before graduating from college. Is there a way for me to live well while maintaining this family?
The solution came quickly. I planned to use the original work I knew as much as possible.
"First of all, since you know who the villain is, avoid him."
These people are truly people who cannot be rehabilitated, so for no reason, you'd get burned by being around them.
"The main character is so tiring."
It's a shock to be next to two people whose love for each other is firmly established through all kinds of crises.
Se-hyeon, who was worried, found a very suitable partner.
"Shin Tae-oh."
As a sub character figure, there is no major crisis and I have quite a bit of information. I can't say he had a very good personality, but he definitely took care of everyone. So, I thought that if I could stick with it, I could work for a long time. Once we decided on the opponent, it was easy from then on.
After the interview, I entered the frontlines and assisted with different tasks. Thanks to matching Shin Tae-oh's needs well, I even became his personal secretary.
It was easy to accommodate his personality.
Act with discretion and be mindful of your actions.
Shin Tae-oh's public image is flawless anyway. However, if you act out of line in private matters, you will no longer be compatible. As Shin Tae-oh doesn't keep incompatible secretaries around, all I had to do was maintain that.
Perhaps that's why, excluding a few secretaries, I quickly got promoted and secured my position.
In addition to my stable monthly salary, thanks to the occasional bonus from Shin Tae-oh, Se-hyeon's situation noticeably improved. It was enough to handle the responsibilities of my parents' lives, even though it wasn't abundant. Thanks to the reduced burden in their lives, my parents' health also improved.
"Of course, I'm happy too."
The studio he currently lives in alone is clean and worth living in, and Se-hyeon's life isn't bad as he works under a normal boss. On the contrary, it's too good.
Only one thing.
Se-hyeon held up a shopping bag.
'Except for what happens when you can't let go of your lingering affection for the main leads.'
Anyway, the story in the novel is progressing and the subplot is intensifying.
"I came to see Assistant Manager Yoo Jin-ha."
"Wait for me."
Se-hyeon called the main number in a business-like tone and stood on one side of the hallway.
As I was watching them without interfering with the passage of others, Yoo Jin-ha soon came out.
"Hello, Secretary Ahn Se-hyeon."
"Hello, I have something to discuss."
Jin-ha looked around and said that there would be no one in the restroom right now. Se-hyeon nodded and started heading in that direction, feeling the gaze of people.
The CEO's personal secretary meeting an assistant was the object of curiosity. However, Se-hyeon, who had no intention of explaining the situation to them, casually ignored their stares.
As soon as they entered the restroom, Yoo Jin-ha spoke.
"What's the matter?"
"The CEO asked me to deliver this."
"What is this...?"
If I asked them to open it themselves, they would refuse without even looking inside.
"It's gloves."
"I'm sorry, but I can't accept a gift Iike this. It's burdensome and I don't know why I should receive it again."
"He said he's giving it to you because it's cold, your hands get chapped and it's difficult to draw."
Se-hyeon relayed what President Shin Tae-oh said without a single mistake.
"Because it's cold?"
Jin-ha's hair swayed in the warm air coming from the ceiling. It's winter outside but it's warm inside the company. Yoo Jin-ha's forehead seems to be wet. Is it sweat?
"Anyway, he gave it to me for that reason."
The excuses are the boss's responsibility, but the embarrassment is mine.
"I'm sorry. I will decline."
"Understood."
Se-hyeon, who had no intention of forcibly accepting, grabbed the doorknob to leave the restroom without hesitation.
"Secretary Ahn Se-hyeon."
"Why are you asking?"
Did he change his mind midway and want to accept the gloves?
"Do you happen to have a lover?"
Yoo Jin-ha must be developing feelings for the male lead, so why would he ask such a question?
"Ah... Someone else asked me to inquire."
Perhaps Yoo Jin-ha noticed the reason behind my gaze and quickly added a remark. In that case, it's easy to answer.
No, I don't have one. And I have no plans to have one in the future.
"Yes, there is."
Although I happened to read this novel and entered this world, there was one thing I still couldn't get used to. That's a trait. No matter how many times I looked at the trait on my resident registration card, I couldn't get used to it.
Se-hyeon bowed his head in greeting and left.
Se-hyeon went back the way he came, ignoring the glances glancing at his face again. That's okay because I'm a secretary who just needs to satisfy President Shin Tae-oh's mood.
'Relaxing.'
This world.... my life.
Se-hyeon, who came into the body of an extra, was having a miserable work life today.
***
"He refused?"
"Yes."
There was no question as to why he refused. Instead, Shin Tae-oh glared at the shopping bag with dissatisfied eyes.
"Why don't you accept my gift?"
Would you accept it?
"Is the gift any good?"
You probably aren't that good.
"Or on the contrary, do you feel burdened by the gift?"
Huh. No. You are a burden.
I wanted to scold him and tell him not to blame the object, but Se-hyeon just stood there with an expressionless face. Unfortunately, President Shin Tae-oh cannot use the gloves because he bought them. Since his hands were different sizes, there was only one way to handle this.
"Shall I get a refund?"
"It's okay. Secretary Ahn can have it."
"Alright."
President Shin Tae-oh muttered, scolding Yoo Jin-ha, who did not accept his feelings again today, and Se-hyeon looked with loving eyes at the gloves he would wear starting tomorrow.
"However…"
Se-hyeon put his hand holding the shopping bag behind him and raised his eyes with feigned indifference.
"Does Jin-ha like king crab?"
Se-hyeon swallowed his saliva and answered.
"I'll make a reservation."

hello hello hello!! i'm milk (she/they) and i'm super pumped to be here and to introduce you to two of my muses! first up is silas, a concert pianist turned producer that's always expanding his horizons when it comes to genres of music he knows less about.
╰ * ꒰⠀⠀⠀⠀gong yoo. forty. cis man. he/him.⠀⠀⠀⠀꒱ hold your f*** horses ! silas yoon has just been spotted walking into revolution headquarters. they are best known for being the label’s resident music producer and have been working with the label for twelve years. they share a lot of interesting things about life in the music industry on their social media, so make sure you don’t forget to follow them at @silasyoon. the office knows them for being taciturn but i swear they’ve got a sentimental side as well. maybe that explains why they’re always associated with cold hands and pressed shirts, perfect spelling and grammar in text messages, headphones playing classical music on the train home. their coworkers even voted them most likely to always have a pen on hand you can borrow. we’ll see how they live up to that reputation.
╰ * statistics.
full name : silas yoon seong-chul. nicknames : N/A. age : forty. date of birth : august 29, 1982. place of birth : cambridge, england. gender : cis man (he/him). orientation : bisexual. occupation : producer / former concert pianist.
╰ * backstory.
silas yoon grew up in cambridge, england as a second gen immigrant after his parents moved to the uk for work. more accurately, his father, a professor at the university, moved for work; his mother simply followed. as a kid, he knew his dad to be out of the house a lot, and it was mostly his mother who took care of him. though she tended to be reclusive and struggled with english, she was the warmest part of his childhood — and even the jumpstart for his love of music.
she collects records, his mother. vinyls, of classical music, of jazz, of western pop music from the 60s. though he learned english before korean as a kid (given that his only exposure to the latter was his mother, as his father prioritised him learning the language of the country they were living in), it felt so easy for him to communicate with her when they were grinning at each other over music they both loved.
his mother plays the piano, too, though she never progressed beyond the basics. but she was his first teacher, and he still remembers being four years old and sat atop her lap with her hands guiding his own over the keys. when his father saw how much he enjoyed it, he enrolled silas in classes at prestigious music centres: and from there it was daily lessons, climbing grades and dazzling recitals.
silas was no prodigy. no naturally-gifted child. he worked tirelessly to prove himself as worthy of the regard he had somehow earned within the classical music circuit. when he graduated secondary school, he continued into the royal academy of music in london. by the time he’d finished with that, he was being flown around from vienna to berlin and prague and playing fully-packed concert halls. he fell in love with the piano the first time he heard his mother play, but at some point his passion dimmed in favour of perfection.
it came to a head when he had the opportunity to create and release his first recorded EP: to play and produce it from start to finish. his attempts to reach a standard he couldn’t even decide on led to overworking, and then tendonitis — and even then he tried to work through it rather than rest.the injury was a trigger for focal dystonia, causing a permanent loss of fine motor control in his right hand.
he was twenty-five and the career path he’d started over two decades ago was over, just like that. it’s difficult for him to describe his state of mind during the immediate months that followed, but eventually he tried to ‘escape’ his shame and grief by leaving europe. a friend in the chicago symphony orchestra extended an invite to a performance. and he stayed after, just for a bit, to see what the concert scene was like over there and to remind himself what he loved about it.
he attended shows in a handful of major cities, but it was during his trip to see the new york philharmonic that things really made a difference. he missed the show, actually — got turned around on the unfamiliar city’s public transport and ended up on the other side of town. he stumbled into a small hole in the wall club and sat through a menagerie of amateur performers rotating on and off the tiny stage, but something about that felt… meaningful, to him. like he was four years old watching his mother fumble with the keys, the both of them bursting into giggles when she messed up a chord.
when he went home that night, he pulled up the raw files of his unfinished EP and stayed up until the sun rose to finally create something from it he was happy with. the music had seemed… imperfect at the time of recording. unpolished. but after running it through with new insight, he found he’d made something he could really be proud of.
he didn’t release it, though. still hasn’t to this day. he keeps it for himself as a reminder, because he’s found his love of music goes so far beyond the consumption and performance of it. it takes him a couple of years working with indie artists and networking with his industry contacts, but at twenty-eight he finds himself applying for the position of a sound engineer at revolution records, and he gets it. another few years down the line and he’s a producer, with a hand in helping an artist realise every part of their vision; another few more and he’s made a home for himself here, at a production company that blessedly offers him the chance for creative input and interpretation even if he can no longer play for an audience.
╰ * headcanons.
these days, silas considers himself to be fluent in both korean and english. having been to many a european city during his pianist days, he also considers himself proficient in german, and able to reasonably carry a conversation in french and czech.
while his injury means he can no longer play at the level expected of a professional pianist, he’s still able to fumble around with the keys and is more than happy to do so every now and then. sure he misses the stage, but he’s very happy doing what he does now.
has a bit of a... not exactly rbf, more just resting disinterested face? he's quick to offer polite smiles when approached, but his default expression can leave him seeming very unapproachable.
somehow gives off both "reliable professional" and "dad trying to keep up with the times" vibes. there are certain aspects of music creation/production and the industry that he's very insightful and eloquent about, but there's also a child-like mixture of wonder and confusion when it comes to new challenges and discoveries.
he lives in a high-rise in manhattan that comes with a solarium, which he's converted into a listening room, complete with his collection of vinyl records as well as a baby grand piano. it's easily the room he spends the most time in.
often prefers to dress smart casual/business casual to the best of his ability, and is typically more willing to dress up than dress down — it's a remnant from his concert days and his need to maintain appearances, mostly.
cat dad. his cat is six years old, named treasure, and is the cuddliest lap kitten you could ever meet (when she's not being a gremlin and sleeping on his work station/important papers/etc.).
texts in one single message (with paragraphs if necessary) using proper spelling/caps, and always signs his name at the end like it's an email, though isn't bothered with how other people choose to text. lots of his chats look like: Good morning. I'd like to remind you that the backing musicians will be coming for callbacks this afternoon at 2, and we'll need you around for the selection process. – Silas Yoon. / ya i rmbr!! thx / Excellent. See you then. – Silas Yoon.
he doesn't go to visit his mum back in the uk nearly as often as he should, but he does make sure to call her (and his dad) at least every other week. he got her to figure out facetime last year; next step, getting her to hold it further than an inch away from her face.
100% has classical music playing throughout the house when he's just flittering around and not doing anything in particular. some of his close friends have absolutely made fun of that giving "hannibal vibes".
while he can cook (and has like... a rotation of four specific recipes he's Very Good at that he'll pull out during date night to impress), lack of time and energy often lead to him dining out or ordering in on the regular.
╰ * wanted connections.
collaborators. artists he’s worked with, or will work with! as someone with a largely classical background, one might assume that to be his preference — but exploring new styles and genres is one of the things he loves most about this job, so he’d work on anything from ballads to jazz to hip hop to heavy metal.
ride or die. silas knows the value of networking and having contacts, but his actual social circle is very small. this person would be his number one before all else; the person he’d trust with his life as readily as he’d consider them the bane of it. i imagine lots of back-and-forths, lots of bickering threaded with unwavering love; the sort of bond that comes only with time and comfort and intimacy.
work rival. as someone who’s always up for challenging himself, silas would love to be challenged by someone else, too. he might not say it and in fact, depending on the nature of the rivalry, he might not even admit it to himself, but he appreciates people who can keep him sharp, keep him motivated, keep him driven.
mentee (?). this is kinda vague but i’d really like someone for silas to take under his wing, in any sense! whether they’re an aspiring/junior producer or they’re a pianist or also have a classical background or anything like that. silas may be a little clumsy in figuring out the whole role model, mentor thing, but he’ll take the responsibility to heart.
exes. given that he’s been at revolution records for over a decade, i’d like to think he’ll have at least one or two of these hanging around. whether they’re on good or bad terms is up for discussion, of course! exes who jumped into a relationship too quick but realised they clicked really well as friends? exes who gave each other everything and still hurt when they see each other across the hallway? i’m down for anything tbh.
misc. friendly faces he’s met over the years through networking (though genuine friends are few and far between); artists he’s a fan of; kinda niche but an obligatory “oh you’re british too? let’s acknowledge that about each other” sort of acquaintanceship that somehow turned into an unlikely friendship; any kind of found family bond (sibling-like, paternal on his end, etc.); people in the industry who knew him when he was a concert pianist?

Train to Busan Review: The Ultimate Zombie Thrill Ride
All Aboard the Zombie Express: "Train to Busan" Review
Review by: Joseph Correa
As Halloween approaches and the hunt for the perfect scary movie begins, let me make a case for "Train to Busan." In the vast landscape of zombie apocalypse films that seem to multiply like the undead themselves this time of year, it's rare to find one that truly stands out from the shuffling horde. Enter this South Korean thrill ride that proves there's still plenty of life left in the undead genre.
The Little Zombie Movie That Could
Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, this 2016 film takes the familiar concept of a zombie outbreak and confines it to the claustrophobic setting of a high-speed train. The result is a heart-pounding adventure that will leave you breathless – and maybe a little motion sick.
From the moment the train leaves the station, "Train to Busan" wastes no time ramping up the tension. What starts as a seemingly ordinary journey quickly descends into chaos as a zombie outbreak spreads through the carriages faster than you can say "trick or treat." The film's pacing is relentless, mirroring the train's speed as it hurtles towards its destination – and potential salvation.
But don't let the breakneck speed fool you; this isn't just a mindless action flick to throw on in the background of your Halloween party. At its core, "Train to Busan" is a story about human nature and the choices we make when faced with unimaginable horror. The film deftly balances its frenetic action sequences with moments of genuine emotion, creating a rollercoaster ride of thrills and feels that'll have you clutching your pumpkin spice latte one minute and reaching for the tissues the next.
Characters You'll Actually Care About (Before They're Eaten)
Unlike many zombie films where characters are little more than walking snacks-in-waiting, "Train to Busan" presents a cast of well-rounded individuals that you'll actually root for. At the center of the story is Seok-woo (Gong Yoo), a workaholic fund manager who's about as emotionally available as a jack-o'-lantern. Forced to accompany his young daughter Soo-an (Kim Su-an) to visit her mother in Busan, Seok-woo finds himself thrust into the role of reluctant hero as the zombie apocalypse unfolds around them.
The film's ensemble cast is a delightful mix of archetypes and surprises. There's the tough-as-nails pregnant woman (Jung Yu-mi) who puts most action heroes to shame, the burly but kindhearted working-class hero (Ma Dong-Seok) who could probably punch a zombie into next week, and a pair of elderly sisters whose bickering provides some much-needed comic relief amidst the carnage. Even the film's antagonist, a cowardly CEO who'd throw his own grandmother to the zombies to save his own skin, is compelling in his despicableness.
Zombie Action That'll Make Your Head Spin (But Hopefully Stay Attached)
You might want to look elsewhere if you like your zombies slow and shambling. The infected in "Train to Busan" move with the speed and aggressiveness of Olympic sprinters hopped up on Halloween candy. The action sequences are a masterclass in tension and claustrophobia as characters navigate narrow train corridors and packed carriages while trying to avoid becoming an all-you-can-eat buffet for the ravenous undead.
One particularly nail-biting scene involves characters attempting to move between train cars by climbing along the outside of the speeding train. It's a white-knuckle sequence that'll have you holding your breath and silently cursing the characters for not just staying put (although, let's be honest, we'd probably do the same in their shoes).
More Than Just Another Zombie Flick
While "Train to Busan" delivers plenty of zombie-slaying action to satisfy your Halloween horror cravings, it's the film's underlying social commentary that gives it real bite. The movie subtly explores themes of class division, corporate greed, and the importance of community in the face of crisis. It's a testament to the film's writing that these heavier themes never feel heavy-handed, instead seamlessly integrating into the narrative.
The movie also isn't afraid to pull at your heartstrings. Without spoiling too much, let's just say that not everyone makes it to the final destination, and some of the character deaths are genuinely gut-wrenching. You might find yourself shedding a tear or two between screams – just blame it on your scary monster mask if anyone asks.
All's Well That Ends... Well, You'll See
Without giving away the finale, it's safe to say that "Train to Busan" doesn't pull its punches. The ending is both satisfying and bittersweet, staying true to the film's themes of sacrifice and redemption. It's the kind of conclusion that'll stick with you long after the credits roll, prompting discussions about what you would do in a similar situation (though hopefully, you'll never have to find out).
Final Destination: A Must-Watch
In a world oversaturated with zombie media, "Train to Busan" manages to breathe new life into the genre. It's a perfect blend of heart-pounding action, genuine emotion, and social commentary, all packaged in a sleek, high-speed vehicle. Whether you're a die-hard horror fan or just someone looking for an intense cinematic experience this Halloween season, this is one train you won't want to miss.
So grab your ticket (and maybe a barf bag for the squeamish), and hop aboard the Zombie Express. Just remember: in the event of an outbreak, please remain in your seat with your seatbelt fastened, keep your limbs inside the carriage at all times, and whatever you do, don't get bitten. Enjoy the ride!
Rating: 9/10 – A thrilling journey that'll leave you breathless, emotional, and possibly with a newfound appreciation for slower forms of transportation this Halloween.
P.S. If you need me after watching this, I'll be over here, planning my zombie apocalypse survival strategy. Hey, in the spirit of Halloween, you never know, right?
