My HxH ships

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on my ships to share with my Tumblr friends. If you’re some stranger who disagrees with it and it evokes negative emotions on you, kindly exit. I know the internet has a bunch of trolls/idiots that has a habit of harassing people because the ship is “wrong” or it doesn’t suit them. Well, honestly, I don’t really care if you agree with them because I don’t know you personally? And this is fictional so it’s not something to be taken personally or even seriously. Don’t confuse my personal values with what I like with the ships.

I can’t believe I even need to make a disclaimer on this because a bunch of people don’t know how to be civilized once they are anonymous on a social media platform. I will just block lol; BYEEE.

HxH I love:

Defintion - Actively ships them, willing to make fanfics of them if possible

1. Kurapika x Neon

This ship is so underrated it hurts. They may not be similar in terms of personality and views of the dead: Neon focuses more on the living and the present (that’s why she doesn’t have sympathy for the dead and tells Chrollo her fortunes are for the living), while Kurapika focuses on the past and mourns for the dead (his mourning for his clan). But I think both of them are very similar in terms of loneliness. Neon doesn’t have friends and lacks affections from her father; Kurapika is lonely because all of his clan members are dead.

I know the common barrier is Neon’s hobby for flesh collecting, but I think this difference is what makes it more complicated and interesting for me. Especially when Kurapika has been in many seasons under the Nostrade Family... it makes me wonder what kind of interactions they had since it was all Killua and Gon on-screen.

2. Hisoka x Machi

I actually had always liked Hisoka with Machi together. Hisoka seems to really like her and enjoys her company. Machi may seem irritated by him but I think she’s more of a tsundere? She still decides to patch him after the fight against Chrollo, and their relationship got a bit more complicated after the Hisoka vs Chrollo fight.

3. Tserreidnich x Theta

Okay, I LOVE this ship. This is right out love-hate kind of relationship. It lowkey reminds me of Clarice/Hannibal and I find this ship so fascinating? I don’t see a lot of fanfics of them unfortunately. So Legacy by Alltagsabenteuer is a blessing from heaven because it’s the only TsexTheta tag in AO3.

So far I haven’t found anyone else who loves this ship, so please identify yourself if you do.

I’m starting to think I like those complicated love-hate dynamics....

HxH ships I like:

Definition of like - Actively ships them, may make fanfics of them or not. But doesn’t think of them 24/7.

1. Pokkle x Ponzu

This was like, a ship that never really sailed because Togashi decided to kill them both. I think this ship had potential and I’m hoping they find happiness in the afterlife.

2. Chrollo x Neon

I actually really liked how they vibe together during this one scene (although Chrollo targetted to meet her for her fortune-telling abilities). I am a KuraNeon shipper but I like the idea of Chrollo being a 3rd party because I think it fits so well? Chrollo and Kurapika are enemies and I had always found it fascinating how both of them got entangled with the same woman.  Also, people be like “Neon is 16″ uhhh... Hunterpedia states she’s born in 1982, along with Kurapika and Milluki. She’s the same age as Kurapika and Milluki; and Kurapika is widely accepted as 19 now; and it does tally if you see the Hunter x Hunter timeline (although there has been several discrepancies and dubious canonity when it comes to the Official Hunter x Hunter database and the HxH manga timeline). I’m not sure why people falsely remember Neon as a year younger than Kurapika and use it as a common argument to not support Chrollo/Neon when people have no problems (except for some) when it comes to shipping Kurapika with Chrollo.

So... Chrollo be that Mr. Steal Yo Girl and Kurapika’s posessive reaction to it will be astronomical.

HxH ships I support:

Definition of support: Does not actively ship them, but definitely likes the idea of them

1. Killua x Canary

I love how Canary tries her best for Killua and she does care about him. I realised that Killua seems to have an issue with older women (e.g. Bisky, Elevator girl), but I think for girls who are about his age, he’s okay with them. There is a misconception that he can’t communicate with women well (probably because he has issues with his mother), but I think that’s just for old ladies - Canary is cool with him.

2. Hisoka x Illumi

It drives me nuts how these two have matching outfits. I know that they have a more of a give-and-take transactional relationships rather than purely friends, but this is fab best friendship goals. My friend loves this ship and I absolutely support it.

3. Retz (with either Gon or Killua)

The unreasonable hate on Retz is insane because “she’s ruining KilluGon”. I think it’s really refreshing to see Killua and Gon hang out with another girl their age. You can see that Gon is really sweet towards her. Killua is more suspicious of her for a good reason but he never hated her. Remember that Killua is not used to interacting with people due to his family background. In fact, as @u-named mentioned, Killua and Retz shares similarities in terms of wanting to be free from their family.

4. Alluka x Gon

I would love to see a fanfic where Gon starts to woo Alluka and Killua will be that overprotective brother, knowing that his best friend is a player. Alluka/Nanika healed Gon anyway, so she’s technically his saving angel.

5. Ging x Gon’s unnamed mom

Okay, this is a bit weird cause we don’t know who Gon’s mom is... (and screw that Pregnancy Stone theory, I just think it’s weird how Ging mentioned Gon’s mom in the tape if he never had a mom lmao; is he gonna say “which you don’t have” like ???).

I actually like fanfics that explores Ging’s life before Gon and various interpretations of who Gon’s mom is.

What Lies Beyond by Thatsoneperson is one of the best fanfics I’ve read when it comes to Ging’s life before Gon. The ending was really heartbreaking and I had always loved the “Gon’s mom was from the DC” theory because Yusuke’s ancestral father came from the Demon World and there were hints of Gon’s dark aura throughout CA and Election arc.

Somehow in my headcanon, I had always envisioned Gon’s mom to resemble Usagi from Sailor Moon but with Gon’s hair colour. Gon also has certain personality traits that are very different from Ging and I believe that came from his mother.

6. Meruem x Komugi

One of the most unexpected, beautiful, saddest, semi-canon pairings in the entire series. It highkey reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. It was beautiful how Meruem, a Chimera Ant that was supposed to be destined to rule the world above humans, became gradually attached to a blind human girl.

7. Killua x Machi

This is fucking weird; because of the age gap but I like to think Killua meets her again one day when he grows up, and they had some sort of flirtation because he needs to be on par with Gon when it comes to dating women.

There was actually a cute fic about that called A Series of Pick Up Lines by Yandere Shoujo where Killua was trying to use pick up lines on a woman because he wanted to try it out after knowing that Gon dated women prior and just so happens to bump into Machi.

This post is gonna be hella damn messy but bear with me.

If I had to choose my personal favorite arc in hxh, it would be Yorknew city arc. I rewatched chimera ant arc and I love it really. But if I had to compare the pacing, ost and how much it kept me on edge then I would definitely go for Yorknew city arc. Yorknew city arc was about comparison between the characters while Chimera ant arc was about the contradictory within the characters + questioning humanity on the basis of class discrimination which they did brilliantly.

There are some things that I actually wanted to talk about Chimera ant arc.

Shoot and Youpi.

If you go to see, the character that fought Youpi head on, although did extremely minor injury, was Shoot. The biggest worrywart of the arc was even ready to fight the monster all alone even while barely being able to move. He made sure he wouldn't faint because if he fainted, hotel rafflesia would deactivate. I fucking LOVED this man for what he did. Youpi also was my favorite Royal Guard. Youpi was a definitely hard to deal with character considering how much he kept on evolving and I fucking loved that.

Knuckle and his ability.

If only Knuckle wasn't such a softie for everyone and everything, Chapter 7: Bankruptcy would have turned out to be the best ability in this arc. He deactivated it against Youpi simply because Youpi complimented them and showed a sign of being humane, completely forgetting the fact that Youpi almost butchered and humiliated Shoot. His ability is so amazing, I truly loved it. What I noticed was however, contradictory to Shoot, a worrywart, who faced head on against Youpi, Knuckle was the one of the only ones uninjured because he kept escaping from one place to another. This contradicts his confidence.

Knov and Morel.

Knov alongside Morel insulted Killua when he was introduced initially however he was the one with the weakest willpower. I felt pathetic when I was watching his breakdown. Morel on the other hand had no morals.

Shaiapouf.

Annoying as fuck. Literally. I hate this guy with all my heart.

Neferpitou.

I liked how they're character kept on changing and fluctuating while still being how they were but nonetheless, I didn't like their character. I will have to admit tho, Dr. Blythe is an amazing ability.

Palm.

One of the other characters I loved during this arc was Palm. Unlike her mentor, Palm wasn't afraid. She got scared, got caught, was turned into a Chimera Ant, her memories were operated, she became their experiment yet she broke through it. Not only that but above all, she kept Komugi safe and was one of the only three people that got Mereum's respect. She saw through Pouf's plan and honestly I wanted her to defeat pouf after what they did to her.

Gon.

The most contradicting character of this arc. I can't explain how I felt watching him. Him losing all sense of reasoning, disregarding Killua. Like you are just stuck in between when you think about Gon in this arc.

Killua.

The only character that actually wasn't contradicting was Killua. He had an amazing character development in this arc. He was the in between of the whole YinYang going on in the arc. The one who had valid sense of reasoning and went on to save whoever and however possible.

One thing I noticed during the fights against Royal Guards was, if you are fast or have teleportation ability or can go invisible, then you are able to defeat them. Knuckle escape not once but TWICE from Youpi's explosions without being injured because of how fast he was. Invisibility isn't as much effective as being fast or having teleportation is. This can be seen during when Meleron was taking away Morel and Youpi could identify them because Morel was bleeding.

I saw a lot of comments and stuff on videos that Phantom Troupe wouldn't have a chance against the Royal Guards, which I think is overestimating the Royal Guards because 1) none of the members in the Phantom Troupe have shown their full capacity and 2) like I stated before being fast or having teleportation can be a huge plus point in the fights.

So, if it were Phantom Troupe vs Royal Guards, then it would have been.

Youpi vs Feitan; Shaiapouf vs Machi and Neferpitou vs Phinks.

All three fights in Presence of Chrollo.

Mereum and Komugi's last scene killed me and ripped my heart apart. Throughout the Chimera Ant arc that was the only scene I cried. I cried myself to sleep and I still can't stop thinking about it. But if I had to choose my personal favorite scene from the arc, it would be hands down the scene where Mereum remembered Komugi. The scenery, them playing Gungi with no one around. That whole scene symbolises that for Mereum, only him and Komugi mattered, he didn't see anything else and the scenery indicates that whenever he is with Komugi, he is at peace, its his most peaceful time. And I think, thats truly beautiful.

15. when bisky told killua he’d eventually leave gon to die: 1/10 i was PISSED & only teared up a little bc like why the fuck would you say that to him you know how important gon is to him bisky u were wrong for that

14. pitou vs kite: 2/10 definitely out of shock but also i was a dumbass and i didn’t think he actually died bc i thought pitou just reconnected his head to his body & brought him back to life to use as a puppet but. well. 💔

13. gon u are light: there’s not much to say here . u kno. 2/10

12. when killugon went back to NGL and gon cried: 3/10 rly sad i don’t wanna think abt it

11. killua literally getting impaled by swordfish stfu: 3/10 angry cry

7. gon & leorio reunion: 8/10 no. leorio was so dead set on saving him and when he immediately teared up and SPRINTED to him injust. wanna die but i was also rly mad at ging but i was crying too bc gon finally got to meet him so it was that AND leorio and gons reunion

6. killua asking nanika forgive him: 9/10 No<3 the way he hugged them after:(( and cried :((( like it’s not ur fault baby u were literally being brainwashed ur brother is fucking insane :((( n alluka & nanika forgive him like:((( he’s the best big brother and u kno he felt so guilty abt leaving his little sister in a place like that it makes me so sad

jibaku shounen hanako-kun (i would DIE for the art style it’s so cute and the music and characters were cool but for some reason i just couldn’t get super invested in the story?? i felt myself wanting to finish this anime quickly for some reason)

BNHA season 4 (i’m so sorry i just didn’t like it it just felt kind of bleh to me except for the fight with kai as well as the ending which was epic, but comparison to season 3 WHICH BTW WAS HYPE AF i just didn’t feel super invested while watching it)

no game no life (just like JBSHK the animation was sick, but idk definitely not my fav anime. however the movie was good)

(most upsetting moment in anime and why): *BANANA FISH, HUNTER X HUNTER, AND SNK SPOILER ALERTS BEWARE* i have a few but the first one definitely has to be when ash died when he was supposed to go to japan with eiji or say goodbye to him 🥺 i was like ARE YOU SERIOUS i genuinely didn’t think that was the ending. i was really upset for like days. the second one would have to be in snk when levi had to choose between saving armin or erwin, as well as when everyone was giving their all to fight the beast titan but so many died regardless. the third one is in hxh when gon basically died and was on life support and killua was losing his mind as well as komugi and meruems death which hurt alot but yeah lol 😔✌🏼

I think we already know that Pitou was Best Ant™ since she had the most character development. I would say Youpi came in second and Pouf came in third (noah fence to Pouf but,,,,,, he kinda never changed at all during the entire story). 

Youpi was just kinda,,,, there. He didn’t actively hate Komugi as much as Pouf did though, and Pouf never changed in his ways. 

And if we’re talking about character design,,, Pitou was the best. Hands down lmao she’s a great kitty. I’m probably bias tho uwu I just thought her ears and tail looked very cute.

As for overall role and impact on the story I found the royal guards to be very good characters. They were incredibly OP but I like the way HxH handled their death (no matter how powerful you are, poison/radiation can still fuck you up). And for Pitou, she was super crucial for Gon’s development throughout the entire arc. 

I also adore the parallels between Pitou and Killua, it’s really symbolic!

Gon vs Hisoka was fucking awesome as well, Gon vs Hanzo in the beginning was amazing for the drama and Gon’s spirit, Gon vs “Kite” was absolutely heartbreaking, Killua vs Ant!Palm was as well, all of Meruem and Komugi’s ‘matches’ were fucking incredibly for character building, Kurapika vs Uvogin showed his hatred and how much of a badass he was, Gon vs Pitou was horrific, I could go on and on and fucking O N

honestly I don't think 2011 fucking up his introduction has much to do with it; obviously I'm mad about it of course, but I think that it's still very clear how much he means to Gon and it makes sense how much he does even with what they cut out, and the tragedy of it is still terrible. I myself didn't find out about how it was supposed to be from the manga until much later, and I already adored Kite and got really upset about him and Gon way before that. (1/2)

Personally, the only way I can really picture someone being like “ugh I’m so annoyed this guy is on screen again” wrt Kite is if they were like... put off by his v. abrupt introduction and sudden leap to relevance? This was not a problem you & I had, clearly, since I too glommed on to him like immediately lmao. But I can definitely see people not being able to swallow it, and that’s totally fair. Especially since the flashback sequence can be summed up (though not particularly well) as “hey look it’s this guy, he punched Gon then was going to kill a small cute forest animal, like him as a person”.

...Rather, I think people just don't care about him because 1) they love Pitou and love to woobify them and act like they didn't do anything wrong, and just see them trying to heal Komugi for Meruem as complete redemption or w/e, so acknowledging Kite is acknowledging that Pitou did, in fact, brutally murder someone and then use in terrible ways afterwards, which is a negative thing against them and 2) people also hate on Gon for getting moody/annoyed with Killua this arc (because Killua gets protected by everyone and can do no wrong), and getting so (reasonably) angry at Pitou, so again, acknowloging Kite would be acknowloging that Gon has legitimate reasons to act the way he does this arc, which no one likes to do (2/2)

I wouldn’t really call it a ‘problem’ for the fandom to pass over him in favor of characters who get far more screentime and actual development, so in that sense I can get his being a pretty background character to people. But the position he’s in wrt Pitou’s initial character and Gon’s deterioration does highlight the flaws in people’s bad opinions about the arc as a whole.

Like lbr for the vast majority of Pitou’s screentime they were a flat-out bad person. They had some truly amazing development and genuinely changed, I’m not disputing that and I’m v. much a fan of Pitou. Just, like, the character that Pitou actually is rather than some people’s ‘Pitou did nothing wrong’ version.

(And while I’ve hardly taken a census of people’s opinions in the fandom, I wouldn’t quite say that ‘no one’ acknowledges the validity of Gon’s feelings lol)

oh and it doesn't help that Kite's resurrection and his reunion with Gon is treated so casually and as no big deal; there's no emotional impact or anything like there should have been, it's just "oh hey, you're back, nice to see you again; bye!", so that further confirms that he was never really anyone to care about to begin with (to the people who don't care about him, I mean)

GOD don’t even get me STARTED on the fuckin resurrection thing honestly like what the fuck?? What the fuck?? I am still holding out hope that Togashi has a card up his sleeve wrt that whole thing and how... disjointed it feels from everything that has just happened?? Which as you say wouldn’t help with people not liking him. I guess the weird atmosphere of it might be intentional/the point, but like........ tf.............. I’ve gotten much more fond of ant!Kite with time, but really.

The emotional resolution of that and Gon & Killua’s argument wasn’t on the mark at all either. Which! I’m inclined to believe was purposeful, and hints at further discussion of these things in the future or even future conflicts, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Wait...... a long time........... and see.

OK FIRST OFF the op and ed suddenly hit a lot harder after ep 135.... 

but i keep thinking abt meruem and komugi and i just lose it.... i start bawling and idk why their connection and the fact that they died together is hitting me so much harder than like kite’s death or gon going insane or killua’s breakdown or ANYTHING.... lol it doesnt help that the scene of the moments before they both died, when meruem lied down and komugi held his hand, was so beautifully executed.... srsly it might be my absolutely favorite scene.... maybe i just live for the drama lmaoooo but also 😭😭😭

i also thought that the scene with reina coming home was such a nice touch... at the beginning of the arc, i was wondering why kurt and reina were ever even introduced so it was nice to see that the charas and their stories wove into the arc overall... srsly it was so heartwarming to have her come home and for brovoda to even accompany her... tbh i didnt even care for him up until that point lmao

i just cant wait to see kite and gon reunite and where gon’s and killua’s friendship will go from here. i mean obviously theyre gonna stay together, right?? the angst-loving part of my tho kinda wants to see them go their separate ways just for the torture and drama lmao
