ok hear me out: Given what I've already said, I feel like I have to at least submit a defense for why I still think Satoru is redeemable lol. First, I imagine reader already knew he was arrogant before they got together. And I can see a justification for his frustration and why he would lash out, he is under a lot of pressure, people do ask him to do a lot (gojo's daily schedule that gege shared?? crazy), and I'm sure he does feel like he can't take a break w/o someone needing him for something, which is annoying!! And yes he is the strongest and is capable, but that's a mindset thing and everyone has lashed out at someone that felt safe, because you assume they are not going to leave -- it's just unfortunate for him that his consequences ended up being so dire. I just also think those are the only kind of consequences that he would learn from. He doesn't ever really think anything is his fault, and if reader and students hadn't almost died, I don't think he would have really ever change his behavior, just continued on an "apologize for the behaviour instead of work on improvement" path. So obviously the consequences needed to be serious, however their jobs are dangerous and they could technically always die on a mission, so I would also argue that its sort of not.. that serious...? (DONT COME FOR ME PLS) I'm not eloquent enough to explain what I mean by that properly, so that's just gonna have to be enough.

I think that reader would absolutely need space bc who wouldn't?? I certainly wouldn't be able o look at him without resenting him for a while. But without other longstanding relationship issues, I can see a world where I would personally come to accept it? If Satoru expressed genuine remorse (and ideally took some time to think about what his issues are stemming from instead of taking it out on reader...), accepted that space was required, and showed he was more present/attentive with the people who actually rely on him, I would miss him!!! and probably would rationalize "well, technically I could always die". Now, those are a lot of hypotheticals and assumptions that we don't know, I just wanted to provide an example of how/why I think it could still work.

I truly think that depending on a persons priorities, a lot of things can be worked through/forgiven, but of course that is person to person and not everyone is going to feel or think the same way, no matter what the outcome may not be what everyone wants and that's just how it is no one's wrong for wanting one or the other.

nooo not weird at all haha, i had plans to share more ab it once i was done w kickoff but i dont really mind sharing a bit now (will literally always take up any chance to talk ab it it’s an impulse i cannot resist)

basically i met this guy like halfway through my freshman year of college at a frat event, it was a bit different from kickoff dynamic in that we started hooking up pretty soon after that, just a casual thing, but then the pandemic hit and so he went back home to live w his grandpa/family in new york (i live in cali) once campus shut down and stuff. obviously we couldn’t hook up anymore LMFAO but we still talked a lot and i think it was during this time of just talking to one another that i really started to catch massive feelings for him :”)

i went through some bad anxiety during covid, struggling a lot w my career and if i still wanted to pursue the things i thought i wanted (i think a lot of college students went through this w the pandooski) but he would always be there for me and would stay on facetime calls w me if i was struggling to study, he’d cheer me up w pics of his tibetan dogs lol, just reallyyy sweet ugh when we were long distance i rly saw a side of him i didn’t before and i think that’s what made me fall for him

i confessed to him first, similar to reader in kickoff, n told him we could do long distance until he moved back here. but then he hit me with the “i’m sorry, i can’t date you, i’ve got commitment issues”. in his case, he had a long-term girlfriend in high school for four years who he also was dating into college (before he met me), but he found out she had been cheating on him for a long time w not just one but multiple of his friends 😭 so..he said he has really bad trust issues, and that he really wanted to try to date me, but he just felt like he couldn’t

i was really hurt, obviously, but i think in hindsight maybe it was a responsible decision on his part to not throw me into a mess of a relationship w him, one he knew he wasn’t ready for. but at the time, i just thought that it was bc i wasn’t good enough to change his mind. anyways, he asked if we could still talk and be friends, and i said sure bc i didn’t really want to lose him. i figured i could just wait for him (and i told him that i would)

yeahhh well the waiting was way more fucking painful than i thought. he flew to cali once to visit me when flights were sort of resuming, which is just fucking insane because you’ll fly to see me but you won’t date me 😭, and i told him that it’d be the last time he ever sees me! and it was :”) maybe it was an impulsive decision by me, but idk. yknow when you get stuck in a limbo for what feels like forever that you make a decision just for the sake of making one (it was such a short amt of time in reality, but it felt like forever) he made a comment to me in our last conversation about how he really wished he didn’t have to be someone i had to wait on to change, and that really fuckin stuck w me lmao i cried so hard the drive home from the airport. i think all the “what-ifs” kinda sunk in at that moment

ch7 of kickoff was basically me trying to get inside the head of the guy from my situationship, and see what it’s like to have fears hold you back from wanting to experience something for yourself, something that could be beautiful if you would just give it a chance. i felt like if i wrote it from that angle, i’d have more understanding of my situationship (i dont have commitment issues myself, tbh i’ve never rlly understood the concept. like, i’ve been fucked over by ppl in my life too but i’m never one to punish the next person for it. dealing w my situationship was really hard because of this, i would get really frustrated, but writing ch7 from gojo’s character’s perspective made situationship guy’s feelings make more sense to me, i think, there was a sense of closure in that)

but anyways, i was in love w him for sure. like, possibly infatuated. there was a time where we got into a big argument about something and i think i legit i cried myself into a fever 💀 it was all so crazy and powerful, the feelings, i’ve been involved w n dated other guys since but of course none of it really compares. idk, i guess there are just some people that can make you feel that way, there’s really no use in understanding why.

this sounds so sappy, lmaoo i swear i truly am “over” him in that i hardly think of him that much anymore, n tbh i don’t think of him specifically all that much while i’m writing kickoff, but there are moments where i can’t help but bring those feelings into the story.

there’s a line in ch8, near the end of the bed scene, where reader has a thought like

not to once again bring twt discourse here but unfortunately i don’t have a dedicated anime account on there so here goes:

every time i see someone come up with a prompt along the lines of “would love to see Geto grovel for forgiveness from Gojo” a lot of people immediately start crying out about how that’s not canon compliant and how Gojo never held any of Geto’s actions against him and it kind of grates on me.

first of all: people are expressing that they want to see a certain dynamic for this ship in fan made works, just because it’s ooc or non canon compliant that doesn’t mean they don’t understand that that’s not the version portrayed in the source material

fanfiction (and stories of any kind tbh) is a medium a lot of people use to express/process/relate their own emotions and experience and a lot of people have been left behind by someone they held dear (be that a lover or a friend or a family member), so the want to see an “ideal” reconciliation where the person who left has to grovel and the people involved spend time talking about their feelings is pretty common

second of all: we can’t even say for sure that it’s canon divergent?!

a lot of people who balk at seeing this dynamic mentioned only talk about Geto’s crimes and i agree that Gojo was not particularly bothered by any of the objectively bad things Geto did (other than trying to kill Yuta but even that didn’t seem to affect Gojo’s feelings towards Geto, it just forced his hand in the end)

but there is a personal “betrayal” in Geto leaving him behind and not really explaining himself in a meaningful way in Shibuya, which is what most people who want fics/art of Geto having to work to rebuild the trust between them are thinking of, much more than any actual evil deeds

now, it is quite likely that Gojo blamed himself in canon, he does have a tendency of taking on all the burdens himself as an adult, and he does frame it as having to “catch up”, so he wouldn’t hold any grudges for that (at least not towards Geto, as opposed to the system that put them both in that situation).

Additionally, Gojo is not the most well adjusted, “looking inwards”, “treat yourself right” kind of individual so while he is hurt by Geto’s defection (hence him drastically changing behavior and it being his only complex) arguments could be made that he wouldn’t even be fully aware of that fact, like a lot of real people aren’t aware of how much something someone did affected them until years later (Gojo honey you need so much therapy for so many reasons, hope that airport has some good therapists for everyone)

Though he did also say that Geto “didn’t want to be saved” so maybe he did to some degree blame him for the fact that he didn’t open up to him when asked

in addition to those ramblings, we don’t really see a lot of post-defection interactions between the two of them under normal circumstances. The two times they really interact in an open fashion are a) while Geto is on his deathbed and b) in the airport/afterlife, neither are really situations where you would choose to bring up hurt feeling that need time and work to heal over. Geto, in his hair brushing scene with the twins seems to be whist fully regretting not talking to gojo after their “argument”

Gojo obviously didn’t resent Geto, he loved him beyond both their lifetimes, but i don’t think them running into trust/abandonment issues when trying to settle back into a “normal” routine and relationship in a long term way, or even Gojo keeping a distant front in an attempt to protect himself from further hurt (which he kind of does in their confrontation at the school in jjk0) during the very much also not canon secret meetings/AU where they both lived somehow is too dramatically out of character

okay rant over

tldr.: just because it’s not canon doesn’t mean it doesn’t make for fun fanworks, that’s what most fanworks ARE FOR, plus canon only gives us limited insight anyway so stop getting all up in arms over it

even if they talked, i think it would end the same way. bc yn's problem is the way she handles her problems and i thinkl it contributed a lot to what she went through. satoru and her had a talk when he's breaking up w her, the problem is he didn't tell her that he cheated. and i think, if he straight up told yn during that talk in the first chap, she would've done something worse to herself. pm!yn really has bad habits that contributed to the events when they brokeup.

tbh, if yn and suguru got together instead, she wouldn't have gone through that. in pm, suguru is THAT man. the only problem i could see arising from that would be her mother. she can be a bit of a judgmental, but it won't be that big of an issue. we wouldn't have permanent mark if suguru and yn got together instead of her and satoru LMAO

in both situations, i think satoru wouldn't play it cool at all. he will admit that he has no right anymore, but the point is his rs w suguru and how he broke a bro code. until it's not just abt that bc he still loves yn :'> it would affect his rs w suguru (their rs would be heavily damaged, i think all that would remain is respect for the time and memories they had, but other than that, it would be impossible for them to be close friends again.) and his rs w rie bc it'd be obvious that he still loves yn no matter how hard he tries to hide it or push it aside.

it would be bittersweet. yn all healed and probably moved on from him, and satoru still hoping that they'll fall back together. yn would most likely have the biggest growth (losing her dependent behaviour, losing her vices, mature, healthy, ✨business woman✨)

is this the one in the beginning? it's not really an open rs, but more of a cool off, but if she did agree to something like that uhm.. he'd end up losing bc yn is a "retired party girl" lmao it's actually very easy for her to get with someone else, she just chose not to bc she loves satoru but if they got into an open rs. best believe satoru would crack first bc yn would be drowning in her liquor to care. she'd be hurt bc she'd catch on that he just want to be w someone else, but she'd be doing what he wants to happen just so she won't completely lose him. in the end, it'd be easier for her than it is to him. not bc she doesn't love him but bc she'd be too numb to care anymore.

i think the answer in number 9 can also apply to this. just a lot of changes :>

Learning how to use Clip Studio and Tumblr all at once slay </3 Okay I have to ramble about their characters though like omggg forgive the block of text

Anyway more progress on the Macaque and SWK sketches, I love their designs in the show and I've been thinking a lot about the way they're styled. Especially since one of the biggest challenges I can think of when it comes to a show about literal legos is that the character models are very samey, of course.

Also, SWK and Macaque have a particularly interesting challenge, with both being demon monkey guys. Aside from the obvious color palette change (they share similar yellow, red, and black just inverted though which I delusionally associate with their soul mate-level connection to one another) some of my favorite character differences is their eyes??? Like, from Macaques down turned lashes to Sun Wukongs upturned lashes? There's also sharper shapes used in Macaques design versus the roundish lines used in SWK's design which is a popular way of distinguishing "bad" from "good" or in this case, to just make Macaque look edgy and disheveled compared to the more put together SWK.

Like from his brows, his makeup, his frayed cloak, he just has such trademark bad-boy qualities. It's really simple but it's really effective in distinguishing their designs aside from just a color swap.

I think it's also a cool way to establish their personalities. Ironically Macaque, despite coming across as deceptive, is often a lot more honest to Mk and his friends than Sun Wukong is. Which subverts the initial impression of his design. Speaking of which, Sun Wukong's design is just so cute? The rounded lines that make up his design feed the impression that he's trustworthy. A confident, good-natured mentor who's gotten past all his wild youthful exploits (he's literally committed several war crimes) and is just trying to pave a good path for MK. And while he definitely cares for MK and really does want him to succeed, gah damn, he is a hot mess. My favorite part is that Macaque at least acknowledges he's got issues, but Sun Wukong is just in complete denial but that's a whole different post.

Anyways I love the details that their character designs are subversive to their real personalities. Like even MK states it outright to Macaque that he's really not the bad boy loner he makes himself out to be, its all a facade and most likely a response to the several times he's been just screwed over by Sun Wukong

Interestingly enough, Sun Wukong has a whole arc about how he's a really bad mentor, an untrustworthy dude, and kind of downright manipulative when it comes to using his persona to put himself in positions of leadership. Though I don't think he does it out of malice, more just recklessness. The chill mentor vibe (giving Gojo energy tbh) even gets challenged in season one by Macaque after he mentions that the Real Sun Wukong would have destroyed a whole mountain range just to win a fight. And like, if you know anything about what Sun Wukong is like in JTTW, bro has zero chill.

Also, they're like perfect foils and it's my favorite thing. Macaque showcasing himself as violet and SWK as golden in his shadow play was a great use of complimentary colors. Anyway, rant over, I love it when character designs are made to be cohesive with each other </333

more details will be revealed somewhat soon in the story i suppose, but so far my intention has been for reader to be a sorcerer—not necessarily a teacher, but many sorcerers do of course tend to engage with the school and its students, so that’s where the familiarity comes from. it will also be implied that they and gojo were either classmates or otherwise very close in age during school (that’s a specific detail i haven’t exactly landed on yet lol)

as for satoru, i’ve honestly been playing it a little loose when it comes to his condition thus far, though i would like to perhaps refine some of these details in my mind. however, it’s purposefully meant to come across a bit wishy-washy since it’s truly something that everyone is learning as they go along. in my mind, the time since satoru’s revival/awakening has really not been long at all—maybe two weeks at the most. new things are being unearthed every day.

however!! he is very much inspired by brain injury patients as well as autistic individuals with higher support needs (somewhere in between levels 2 and 3). it’s a bit of a concoction of both (as well as tidbits of other things) based on my own observations and research rather than something that’s more clearly defined as being coded as one or the other, especially since what happened to him was… not normal LMAO so there are some supernatural aspects as well that sort of make it its own /thing/

his motor functions are pretty normal for the most part aside from perhaps the occasional coordination issue, though i almost imagine that his six eyes/powers are automatically trying to overcompensate for such things?? which would in turn cause extra fatigue at the end of the day. but tbh that’s something i’m going to put more thought into!!

one of his biggest issues is with executive function/initiating tasks and making decisions. the cognitive impairments are what require reader’s prompting and assistance a lot of the time. however, reader is also potentially overcompensating (or lacking) in some areas as well simply because they haven’t been able to accurately gauge all of satoru’s capabilities yet and are overall not used to caring for someone at this level.

so while he is actually physically able to perform most tasks, the cognitive function isn’t quite there, nor are the memories on how to engage in certain tasks (probably mostly those with more steps/complications) without prompting and reminders. it can take his brain a little bit longer to calculate and process several things.

i just have this image in my head of reader pulling underwear over their pants or something while trying to demonstrate to him how to get dressed without having to fully intervene LMFAO since they are trying to maintain some modesty/distance at the moment. which… probably won’t last for long tbh because it’s not quite practical at this stage.

but there is maybe a little room for neurological improvement on his end! however, it is not my goal for the story to see that he is “fixed” or anything of the sort, nor do i want it to diminish his person. it’s a balancing act!
