it’s happening w a current post going around rn but it’s happened to me enough times on other posts that it really is an annoying pattern, anyways there are so many occasions on which i’ve posted a screenshot of a kpop fan making what is clearly a joke and as soon as it hits non kpop adjacent circles people start taking it at complete face value as if there’s no way this is a joke being made intentionally and that there’s no way that a kpop fan could be in on the joke they’re making. alternately, something that is again clearly a joke is often called “wild kpop discourse” or something to that effect with again this weird implication that a kpop fan couldn’t possibly be making a joke. and i know it comes from the fact that legitimately wild kpop posts are usually the ones that “break containment” or whatever and so that’s what people think everyone is like but it’s just an insane thing to be like everyone who is a fan of this entire musical genre is insaaaneee ooooh they don’t know what they’re saying isn’t it sooo funny look at the discourse 🤣 like is it racism? is that why you’re like this?
