Third Person POV~

"Hey, Y/n... Do you maybe wanna hang out later?.." Jungwon asks, wrapping his arms around you as you finish up washing the dishes. "Sorry, baby.. Jay is back in town for the week so he asked me to hang out with him so we could catch up." You respond as he pouts. "Then tomorrow?.."

You sigh, turning off the tap and drying your hands before turning to face Jungwon. "Tomorrow I'm supposed to go visit his mom. I haven't seen her in three years... I promise we'll hang out the day after." You answer as he nods. "Okay.. I'll just ask Sunoo if he wants to hang out.."

You smile, giving him a quick kiss. "I have to go get dressed.. Sorry I couldn't go out with you today.." You mumble as he nods. "It's fine.. Have fun."

You then head upstairs, showering, doing your hair, and getting dressed before slipping into your most comfortable sneakers.

After making sure you had everything you needed, you made your way downstairs. Jungwon had just walked out of the kitchen. "You look so pretty, but you're wearing jeans?" He questions, knowing you hate wearing jeans, and you nod. "Yeah, I only wear skirts when I'm out with you.. They're usually pretty short, so I don't wanna risk anyone who isn't you trying to get an eyeful."

He nods at your explanation. "Okay.. Are these at least comfortable for you? They wont feel too tight after you eat?" He asks as you nod. "I'm fine, they're comfortable.. Now I gotta go, bye Jungwon."

You kiss his cheek before grabbing your keys and leaving the house. As soon as he hears the lock click he lets out the biggest sigh.

Within the next thirty minutes, Sunoo comes over and now he's forced to listen to all of Jungwon's complaining.

"Jungwon, it's not that serious.. She's known him since they were in diapers damn near. If they were anything more than friends, you would've never had a chance." Sunoo explains as Jungwon groans. "I'm not that stupid, Sunoo. I know she wouldn't cheat on me.. I'm just jealous because whenever he comes to visit, she gives him all her attention."

Sunoo nods. "I guess so, but you have her attention all the time, right?" He asks and Jungwon sighs. "Who's side are you on?"

Sunoo only laughs in response. "I'm on logic's side, let's just have fun for now."

Meanwhile, you had just met up with Jay at a cafe that you two used to study and hang out at all the time. He's already ordered you a drink, so you sit across from him.

"It's good to see you.." He smiles as you nod. "I know, it always feels like it's been forever. We need to see each other more than once a year."

You two spend time catching up, talking about work and just life in general. Eventually he asks about Jungwon. "So, how's your boyfriend?" He questions as you smile, beaming at the thought alone of Jungwon. "He's great.. I love him so much."

Jay smiles at your happiness. "I have something to tell you." You can tell by his dopey smile that he has good news, so you gesture for him to keep speaking. "I have a girlfriend..."

You light up at the news, reaching over the table to grab his hand excitedly. "Oh my god tell me all about her!"

He tells you everything from how he met her down to how they got together. It's all so endearing to hear since you know how badly his last relationship ended.

After talking for over an hour about life, you both went to an arcade together, playing all the games you used to, except you got to win this time.

When your hangout finally came to an end, you parted your ways, planning to see each other around the same time tomorrow.

You got home at around 5pm, ready to see your boyfriend after thinking about what he was up to all day.

"Jungwon, I'm back." You stepped out of your shoes, setting your keys and your bag down as you walked into the living room.

Sunoo was sitting on the arm chair, and Jungwon was asleep on the couch. Some random movie was playing in the background.

"Hey, Sun." You smile as he waves. "Hey, how was your hang out with Jay?" He asks as you hum. "It was fun. How was your hang out with Jungwon?" You question, moving around the couch to ruffle your sleeping boyfriend's hair.

"It was good, he was complaining for the first hour though." He replied as you nodded. "Sounds about right."

Sunoo decides that he's gonna go home, saying goodbye before leaving. You wake Jungwon up and he's immediately clinging to you. "I missed you.." He pouts, burying his face in the crook of your neck. You chuckle, kissing his temple. "I missed you too.. Let's order something to eat, hm?"

The next day, you're up earlier, because Jay called and said his mom wanted to meet for a late breakfast, early lunch. You agreed simply because you didn't wanna inconvenience his mother.

Jungwon was still sleep when you finished getting ready, so you sat beside him on the bed, shaking him gently. "Jungwon.. Wake up."

He stirs, humming as he wraps his arms around your waist. "Where are you going?.." He mumbles with a pout in his tone. You ruffle his hair. "I'm going to brunch with Jay and his mom.. I'll see you later.."

He nods, kissing your cheek before burying his head into his pillow. You get up, patting his back before leaving.

Your day is spent hanging out with Jay, and catching up with his mother. She tells you about how happy she is that her son is finally in a new relationship, and how she hopes this one ends in marriage.

You're happy to see Jay beaming whenever he talks about his girlfriend, similar to the way he watches you smile whenever you talk about Jungwon.

You end up spending much more time than usual hanging out with Jay, and when you finally get home, it's around 8pm.

You look for Jungwon, not finding him in the kitchen, or the living room.

You know he usually doesn't sleep this early, but you check the bedroom anyway, and surely there's a Jungwon shaped lump beneath your covers.

You kick off your shoes, dropping your jacket somewhere along the way as you climb onto the bed, pulling the covers off of his head. "I'm back, baby.." You leaned down to kiss his cheek, pushing his hair out of his face.

He didn't seem too thrilled to see you. "Wonnie.. What's wrong?" You question as he sighs. "You've been gone all day... I've just been here by myself.. All the while you're hanging out with Jay.." He pouts, turning over to look at you. You frown, leaning against the headboard. "Jungwon.. You know it's not like that.. It's been almost a year since I last saw him.. We just wanted to catch up.." You explained for what seemed like the thousandth time since you first introduced Jungwon to Jay.

He had always gotten jealous, but you thought things were different now. You'd been with Jungwon for almost three years now after all. It seems that he still isn't too fond of your relationship with Jay.

"I just.. I wish I knew you like he did.. He's known you since you were a kid... He has so many memories to share with you, and I hardly just found out that you used to dream of being a famous pianist when you were a kid.. I know I shouldn't, but I get jealous.." He explains, avoiding your eyes as you take his hands in yours.

"I understand.. I know Jay and I are close, but I promise you.. You know me in ways Jay couldn't even imagine.. You know how I kiss, my love language, the playlist I listen to when I shower, and even every step of my skincare routine in order.. You're my boyfriend.. Jay could never beat that.." Jungwon sits up, smiling at your words as he hugs you. "I'm sorry.. I didn't mean to make you feel bad about it.." He mumbles in your ear, pulling back to kiss your forehead.

You smile brightly at him. "It's okay to be jealous.. I can't imagine how you must feel seeing your girlfriend be close to another guy.. I'm glad that you trust me though.."

He nods, pinching your cheek. "I try not to be to controlling.. Otherwise you would leave me for someone else.."

You chuckle in response. "You know what, next time he said he'd bring his girlfriend so I could meet her.. I'll bring you too and we could have a double date.." You say excitedly as Jungwon nods, planting a sweet kiss to your lips.

"That sounds great, baby.."

This one didn’t get nearly as much time as I would’ve liked since I spent most of today on a very different art piece…In vain since it’s still not ready to post. 😅

I'm going to keep this description short and sweet tonight Sparklers both because I feel I don't have that much to say, but also because I spent most of the day trying desperately to get a different piece of art ready to post today too...But couldn't quite manage it, so you Sparklers will find out about that tomorrow. Point being: I'm about typed out...But I also can't stand the thought of uploading a third Obscutober piece in a row where I have to come back and type out the description later. 🙃

Likewise, I didn't have as much time as I necessarily would have liked to play with different ideas for the mandala on this one. In another timeline, I might've tried to do some kind of motif with a book with a clearly ripped page or something of that nature, since this definition is supposed to be, "Especially in a book or other piece of writing, including music." Or, thinking about that, maybe something that plays on sheet music would've been cute.

But since I was pressed for time, I opted instead for what I thought was a much cheekier option: I played on the idea of the mandala being unfinished, and therefore having lots of lacunas—missing parts—and in some areas looking like maybe the template for the mandala was still showing.

I do promise that unfinished-ness was intentional and in fact very deliberate. I've used the circular mandala templates when making mandalas traditionally, but I haven't bothered with them or any other "proper" tools beyond Procreate's symmetry capabilities for these digital ones this month. It's arguable there are some days I should have because it would've made things easier, but for the most part I've felt pretty comfortable without them.

The background was partly recycled from a rainbow swirl I made several days ago and ended up not using. And I'd tell you which Day that it was almost for, but I genuinely cannot remember for the life of me at the moment. 🫠

But you can see that I went over it with white in a lot of places. I had originally thought about making the whole things just plain black and white, about as unfinished looking as possible, but the idea of having it partially colored in a very unfinished way seemed like the more visually interesting way to go.

I stand by that assessment, though the whole thing did come up looking unintentionally a lot more like stained glass windows that I intended. 😅 Oh well!

I did also add one final, subtle touch; Just a little glitch effect over the coloring. I don't get many opportunities that feel fitting for a glitch effect like that, even though I really enjoy playing with what it does. Somehow that felt appropriate, like maybe the mandala itself glitched out at some point and that's why it's so unfinished. (Thank God that's not actually a thing that happened, though!)

Is it amazing? Probably not really, but y'know I think I could've done much worse, all things considered. I do think it's pretty in it's own unique way; I didn't expect to like the half-finished elements so much, but here we are! 😊

As usual, I'm not looking forward to cross-posting—especially after having done it once already today!—But I do feel at least a little better knowing I've got a super-obvious choice for the music pairing on Instagram...Here's hoping it'll actually cooperate with me when I attempt to add it. 🤞

Anyways it's 3 am and I have work tomorrow. Clearly this is the perfect time to ramble about one of my favorite bands.

You've heard of fanfiction. You've heard of podfics. But have you ever heard of just straight up making two whole ass fucking albums of genuinely good rock opera ballads that stand on their own two feet as quality music that's all just very thinly veiled Mega Man grimdark AU fanfiction?

You have now.

These guys are The Protomen. You might've heard of them. You might've not. The point though is that they're rad as hell, and a genuine inspiration. I'm not sure about anyone's individual backstories, but they've been together as a group since at least 2005, and from then 'til this very day they've been working on this Mega Man AU of theirs in the form of song, with two major acts/albums out and a third one that's been in the works for years (with a single having dropped sometime last year).

"Gee Void," I hear you think, "This sounds incredibly cheesy! Also what's the status of Act II of Humanity's Endling?"

Yeah, and? Still kicks ass. Also see previous ask response.

Anyways, these guys go above and beyond a simple fan project. They've done tours, collabs, and even made a music video that's more akin to a short film - which is where my profile picture comes from, actually.

The best part about all of this though is that you honestly don't even need to be a fan of Mega Man whatsoever to be a fan of The Protomen, since so much has been changed around that it's entirely it's own continuity. I can personally attest to this, as I've been listening to these guys since at least 2015 and I've only just played my first Mega Man game earlier this year. The best way I could describe it is if somebody made a film adaptation of the Mega Man games in the 80's that doesn't quite get the story 1:1, except they actually tried to make the new story good in it's own right.

Act I, just called 'The Protomen', has a lot more of a grungy garage band sound, while Act II: The Father Of Death does this really cool thing where the first half of the album is western and it slowly transitions to 80's rock as the album goes on to signify the passing of time & advancement of technology in the story. Act II is a prequel, so you can listen to either album first.

You can probably guess where I got the inspiration to name the parts of Humanity's Endling 'acts' from. Well, this and a different band that also does the same thing with their music, but that's a different ramble post for another day.

Regardless, I won't spoil the story, so if you're gonna listen, I'd also recommend having the lyrics pulled up on the side as there's some extra lyric notes to read for some songs that give further story/context to the songs that are playing beyond just what the words are saying.

This isn't music I'd recommend just playing in the background while you're doing something else - set aside some time, about an hour and a half, to just listen and take it in. Treat it like you would a fanfiction. Of course, music tastes are subjective, so if it's not your thing, I understand.

Hello, my covid shot made me forget days were passing and just last night I realized today is Friday and I still needed to finish my Christmas shopping (stocking stuffers, food, cat toys).

Lines were, of course, crazy long. Especially at Target -- where, I HAVE to gripe, NO CHRISTMAS SEASONAL STUFF WAS ON SALE. EVERYTHING FULL PRICE. DO YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE TARGET IS??? My grandma gave me a Target giftcard, or I wouldn't have been there in the first place. But goddamn. Why am I paying full price for Christmas stockings 3 days before Christmas? Why did literally no other stores have a blue stocking with a not-gross texture?

I gave in and got McDonald's drive thru about 4 hours into my quest. They asked me to pull up to the third window to wait for my food. The third window is just a storage area now, so every fucking time they have me wait there istg they forget about me.

Ok, maybe they were thawing the quarter pounder patties or making new fries idk. It was raining and they were busy, so I was patient because I did not want to find a parking spot and go inside. At least 5 cars behind me were given their food immediately and drove off.

I waited 17 minutes. I told myself if it got to 15 minutes, I would try knocking on the window (NEVER works) and go inside. Around minute 14, a worker with a coat on, clearly heading to the back door, saw me sitting there and turned around. And finally I got my quarter pounder meal.

Was my food hot?? No. It was not. The burger was an edible amount of warm, but I would've liked it more, um, HOT. The cheese wasn't even melted. The fries were barely warm. I ate it anyway cuz ugh wtfever I have shit to do.

I was out from 2 - 10 🙃 I have to go back out there tomorrow.

Managed to get my lost package refunded and have now reordered the album 😊. Kinda sad though as I'll never know whose cards I would have originally had 😭. Here's hoping I pull Wonnie, I really want a pc of him. So far though in the last 2 versions I've pulled Jake and Seung so will I pull them both a third time in the Hype version 😏, I'll find out tomorrow. Then I just have to wait for their new album to arrive, should take a few weeks going off of how long my TxT ones took to get here as I ordered from the same place 🙃

Last book: not including fan-fiction because I can go through a LOT and not all are finished and all technically aren’t book-books (like the kind that can be borrowed/purchased), “Educational Research: Planning, Conducting, and Evaluating Quantitative and Qualitative Research (6th Edition)” by John W. Creswell… for class, not fun. Read the whole thing though and don’t want to do so again. Last ‘for fun’ novel that was not for class was probably either a manga (Spy x Family) or one of the queer lit books on my shelf.

Last Movie: because I forgot to finish WonderWoman after getting home that night, the third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie; I watched all of the Spider-Man movies back in August 🕷️

Last Show: Akagami no Shirayukihime/Snow White with the Red Hair probably? It’s been a while. Currently I can’t remember my Crunchyroll password so I can’t continue or be more specific if that was wrong but it’s the last I remember. 🙃

It's Ladrien Wednesday in Adrinette April, so let's make some headcanons about Ephemeral/one sided reveal, shall we?

Ladybug leaving notes in Adrien's locker for the day's patrol routes and spending way too long on them because should I leave hearts at the bottom? No, that's too much, but if I don't leave hearts, will he think I hate him?

Marinette pacing the floor of her bedroom like I wonder what he's doing rn? Is he thinking about me? I should go visit him. Is that too much? What if he's in the shower again? Oh god, what if he thinks I'm a pervert? I'll call him! Calls are safe. She transforms and calls, but panics when he answers because she doesnt know what to say, so she just blurts, "Are you thinking about me?" And Adrien is just like, "All the time, m'lady." Then Ladybug is like, "Okay, cool. See you tomorrow!" And hangs up, berating herself for panicking and how Adrien probably thinks she's spazz. Meanwhile, Adrien is like she called me wow 😍😍🥰

They get hungry on a patrol, and Chat suggests stopping by the Dupain-Cheng bakery because it's his favorite, and LB is secretly pleased. But also disappointed that she didnt try seducing him with croissants sooner like why didn't she think to feed him?? Boys love food!? Idiot!

But, I admit despite that, this may well be my favorite mandala so far—At least a small win for the day! 🙌

Well Sparklers, if you thought for a moment that me uploading yesterday's Obscutober a bit early in the day [for me, at least] meant earlier uploads were going to continue, you've been bamboozled about as much as I was last night when I came home and thought, "I'll just work on tomorrow's mandala a bit before bed..."

Because I said that, and then I sat at my desk and spent more time just trying not to fall asleep than actually getting any work done, considerably worse than the fight I had on Day 3. 😫 It was so frustrating!

And then, naturally, I woke up this morning and have spent most of the day struggling to string more than 5 minutes together at a time to actually get it done. Lately, it never seems to fail—If I'm already under pressure have something time-sensitive to do, suddenly there is just no time to do anything. 🙄

Still, you can see I did pull together something. By some miracle, I'm also actually really happy with it—This is probably the weirdest mandala and also the weirdest color palette yet!

Clearly, I opted to keep the mandala lines mostly simple. The definition for today is the most simple so far, so combined with my difficulties in actually this done, that was just the course of action that made the most sense. However, me being me, I did have to find some way to still make it interesting and not just an otherwise plain but very triangle/diagonal line-heavy mandala.

I assume it's easy to see—ha ha—that I opted to make a very angular side-glancing eye to go with the third variation of the word. The side-glancing part was made a little bit easier by discovering what the "rotational symmetry" toggle in. Procreate's guide settings actually does—I really could've used that back on Day 2 if I'd realized what it did then!

That eye shape guided the rest of the piece once I had it down. The outer most mandala border was vaguely angry-eyebrow inspired, the inner one was sort of makeup and sharp cheekbone inspired, and then it's difficult to see but there's a little bit of hatching shaped like tears under the eye portions. Worth noting that I almost didn't have the one lower "lash"—That was a late addition while I was just trying to fill out some of the empty space, but I think it was one of the most important additions in the end; It kinda ties the whole eye shape together in way that just wasn't happening without it.

The rest was mostly random and just whatever felt like it worked well. I didn't want to get too carried away with stuff that wasn't more directly related to the eye shape and make it too difficult to recognize, in addition to just not wanting to take too long working on the art as a whole because of the aforementioned time-related struggles I've already been having today.

I was very resistant to adding any curves at all, but they ended up there anyhow because I was running out of ideas for filling the space with angles. I do kind of like how it contrasts with expectations a bit though; That you'd expect eyes to be curved and soft but accented by angles, so this is the other way around.

The eyes also shaped the color palette; I was actually very tempted to do this one with white lines instead and fill in the whites of the eyes as solid instead—And I'm still thinking about doing that as a bonus verson for my Ko-fi Members if I have time, but we'll see; I'll add the link here if I do—but I ultimately chose black just so the eye shape would be more obvious. From there, the natural choice was to do something that kind of colored the eyes "properly," and just to make it more interesting I did the "big 3" eye colors. So we're up to black, white, blue, green, brown. Already a slightly unconventional palette. I polished it off by making the background a pale pink. [This is also a bit of change of form—So far I've picked the background color and then colored on top of it.] I didn't want to pick a natural skin color because that felt both boring and just generally not right, and for some reason the idea to just continue to pick something weird was calling to me. Pink was the first option that came to mind, and I was almost startled but how much I like the way this looks when I first tried it, so my decision was made.

Thing DONE, yay! 😃

It may have taken far too long and far too much unrelated, external frustration to get it done, but I am grateful that I like the end results as much as I do. Considering how it got started, I did not go in with high hopes. 😅

Next we'll see how much additional frustration I incur in trying to cross-post it. 🙃

Hopefully, tomorrow will go more smoothly, but I'm keeping my expectations low—I know how Inktober season usually goes. 🫠 But we'll find out one way or another, won't we...

Part One - Overtime

It was pretty late in the evening in Gotham City, a time that's never great to be out and about at. It usually got dark quickly, the weather gloomy and grey, but you had to work overtime to make enough money in this godforsaken place. However, now the streets were crawling with thugs lurking in the darkness of the alleyways, offering fake, smug smiles and sickly words, trying to snatch whatever they could. You did your best to avoid them, your head ducked as you dodged people wandering around, trying to get into the comfort and safety of your home as quickly as you could.

You were only a few streets away when a low call made you stop for a moment, squeezing your eyes shut before you looked up to the sky in annoyance.

"Hey, sweetheart, need a lift?"

'Walk!' is what your thoughts snap at you, and so you try to carry on and ignore them. But a man is quick to block your path, raising his brows as a smirk tugs at his lips, amused.

"No, thanks."

"No?" A guy repeats in a mock-surprised tone, shaking his head. "Little late, isn't it, though? Boys, give her a hand."

"No- I said no!"

Laughter is all they respond with, grimy hands groping as you struggle and push them away, but they're relentless.

Suddenly, a yell of pain cuts through the commotion, and one of the men that was grabbing at you falls to the ground. Another man is yanked away from you, and a dark figure is punching and kicking deftly. It takes moments for him to join the other guy on the floor, while the third runs off, spooked.

You even out your breathing, staring with wide eyes at the person who intervened. It's a man in some kind of costume, with a bat mack disguising him and covering his face. He looks up, deep brown eyes locking with yours.

"Are you alright?"

You nod, slightly dazed. "Yeah, I'm... who are you?"

He seems to hesitate, before answering, "I'm Batman."

Your brows twitch in confusion, but he speaks up again.

"You shouldn't be out here so late. Why aren't you at home?"

"Oh- I was... working."

"For this late?"

"Overtime," you clarify. "I need the income, so..."

"Who do you work for?"

Then it's your turn to hesitate, unsure of whether to tell him something like that, but since he was the one who saved you from a bunch of drunkards...?

You end up telling him the company's name, and he nods.

"They'll pay you double the amount you're earning now, first thing tomorrow."

You scoff, unconvinced. "Perfect."

"Who are you?" He asks, and you say your name, to which he nods. His eyes shift past you to the street, then to you again.

"Go home," he prompts gently.

You nod, glancing over your shoulder at the direction you need to go in, but when you turn your attention back to the front...

He's gone.

"The hell?" You breathe, taking a few steps back and looking around at the tall buildings that cast looming shadows over the narrow street. Nope, he's out of sight. Batman...

You sigh, making your way back home, but a cold splash hits your cheeks, and you groan in irritation.

Rain. Fantastic.

You rush down the street, taking a left and entering into the dimly lit, streetlighted and more open area in Gotham. The library's open till late, and it's closer than home is right now. You run towards it on the opposite street as several more drops come pattering down, before breaking out in a common, full, brief shower.

The waters rain down on the roof of Gotham City Public Library as you head inside, letting out a large breath and rolling your eyes as you look out of the double doors to the wettened, downcast streets outside. A woman behind the nearby counter smiles at you, and you give her a half-smile back. Not everyone in Gotham is awful, thank god, which is one of the reasons you're still here.

You lean against the wall and take in the few people sitting and reading contently, or making notes for work and college at tables and behind laptops. A young man is sitting a couple of tables away from where you are, with soft brown hair that curls at the ends, and glasses he keeps nudging up the bridge of his nose as his eyes drift over papers filled with numbers. He looks exhausted, and before you can look away, his eyes flick up and meet yours.

They widen almost immediately, his cheeks smeared with pink as his gaze drops back down to the table awkwardly. You bite back a smile, looking back outside. The rain has calmed down a bit now, enough for you to keep going home. You push yourself off the wall and head back out, going down the steps-

A sudden hand grips onto your wrist, and you stop in your tracks abruptly, whipping round to face the man from the library. He lets go as if he's been electrocuted, flustered, muttering apologies.

You raise a brow, shrugging. "Do you need something?"

"Yes. No! No- I... um, well, it's late. Where are you... are you by yourself? I mean, ugh-"

"I'll be fine," You assure him with a small smile. "But, uh, thanks?"

"I can walk you home?" He suggests in a rush, before taking a step back worriedly. "Or not..."

You can't help laughing then.

"If you want?"

Well, what's he going to do? The guy looks harmless, and what with him and the 'Batman' you somehow bumped into tonight, you couldn't be bothered to say no. I mean, dangerous city, dangerous time of night, stranger danger and whatnot...

Still. Something in you just agreed, and the man smiled in relief, stuffing his hands in his coat pockets and walking beside you.

You ask him his name after telling yours, to which he replies with Edward. Edward Nashton. And he's a forensic accountant, hence the numbers decorating his papers.

You're at your house in a matter of minutes, and disappointment clouds his face, though his eyes linger on your door and the number on its centre.

"See you around?" You suggest with a smile, and he nods.

"Absolutely," he mutters.

"Thanks for walking me home, Edward."

"Oh, um, y-you're welcome."

You unlock the door and step inside, giving him a quick smile before shutting it and locking it again behind you. Then you let out a long sigh, leaning back on the door, looking up at the ceiling as you bite your lip.

Well, working overtime was worth it, right? Kind of?

Edward Nashton and Batman. Secretly, as you take off your shoes and jacket, you hope you'll see them again.

And in a 'cave' and small, cluttered apartment in the midst of Gotham City, to say they thought the same would be quite the understatement.

Mornings like this, you thought to yourself as you sat on the couch, looking over your shoulder to watch how Peter tried to make pancakes for breakfast since aunt May wasn’t here when the woke up.

He platted the food, hissing when the hot plate touched his hand. A giggle passed your lips as you smiled. The curly headed not looked up, laughing song with you as you signaled for you to come over to eat. Pushing yourself off the couch, you walked over to him, his hoodie loose on your body.

“Did you put poison in these Parker?”

“Haha— funny. Just eat,” he said with a smirk. Taking a bite your face had a shocked expression written over it. The tasted amazing.

“Wow Pete, these are really good,” he smiled and nodded at the complement, not being able to answer as his mouth was stuffed with pancakes.

You watched in admiration as he finished his pancakes quickly, drinking milk afterwards. His eyes were bright and his hair fell into his eyes. Those curls were the one thing that kept you going. You snapped yourself out of what seemed to be a trance he had put you in.

You couldn’t deny how you felt your heart swell at the sight of him walking back over to the couch and grabbing the controller to the game.

Maybe you did feel something for the boy?

Tired of denying it, you pushed the feeling down, but not completely. You started to get your hopes up.

Worst mistake of your life.

Peter’s phone began to buzz, agin… for the third time in a row. The two of your were playing mortal Kombat until Peter started getting texts that he would pause the game for to reply right away. At first, you assumed it was May…no. That’s can’t be right. May would call him instead.

Maybe it’s Ned? Nope. Ned is still sleeping, even though it’s 2 pm. And you knew better then to think it was Mj.

Ding

“Shit- hang on a second [y/n].”

You watched as Peter paused the game and set down the controller, picking up his phone to text whoever was texting him back. Once he finished, he picked the controller and resumed the game for the fifth time.

You started to notice that it was way to easy beating him. He looked to your right and saw that his phone was in his hands as he typed away, texting back—

“Liz,” you whispered to yourself. You felt your heart drop to the pit of your stomach as you watched him smile at the text.

“[Y/N] WINS! FATALITY!” the voice boomed from the TV speakers. A frown casted over your face.

“I won agin Parker. For the fifth time in a row,” you said putting down your controller. You sighed as you stood up from the couch.

“Look Peter… your clearly busy so I’ll just- uh- see you tomorrow for the plane ride.”

“What? Why are you leaving,” he questioned as turned off his phone and set it down. He stood and walked over to you. The two of you stood by the front door.

“You’ve legit have been texting Liz this whole damn time man. Like I’m not even here.”

“Look, I’ll put it away just don’t be so grumpy about it.”

You looked at him with hurt in your eyes. Mainly because he didn’t know the real reason you were upset he had been texting Liz.

You wanted to be that girl he was texting and blushing at. Not for it to be Liz or anyone else.

“I- I’ll see you later Parker,” you grabbed your keys and walked out the door, leaving him there.

He couldn’t understand what just happened, and why his heart broke when you just left him there with barely any context.

“[y/n]?” He said to himself.

“Don’t go.”

You sat in the parking lot of his apartment with tears streaming down your red cheeks. You banged your hands against the wheel and yelled out in frustration.

“Damnit Parker!” You screamed. The frustration built as you realized why this hurt you so deeply.

You had fell for Peter Parker. You had gotten attached without even knowing. And now it’s to late.

Your tried to slow your breathing as you cranked your car, pulling out of the parking lot and making your way to your place.

As you walking in the front door, your mom smiled at you softly, asking how it with with Peter. The mer mention of his name caused your heart to break even more. You couldn’t look your mom in the eye without breaking down all over agin— so you gave a one word response and walking into your room.

“Hey, I put your suite case in your room for you to pack! I have to take you to the airport at 2 PM .”

“Thanks ma,” you called back, closing the door to your room. You tossed your keys onto the bed, going to grab your black suitcase and the basket of clothes you had out for the outfits you wanted to take.

You unzipped the suite case and looking inside to see a picture of you and Peter the last time the two of you went out of town. He was holding you bridal style with a big smile on his face as he looked at you. Your arms around his neck as you kissed his cheek. A tear drop fell onto the photo.

You hadn’t even noticed you were crying until you saw it.

That was it. You knew it.

Peter Parker was your new addiction. But you weren’t his. How were you supposed to spend a week with him knowing this is how you feel?

Bertie’s Blog and life update

The second chapter is, like... one third done.

My job has been the busiest it’s ever been. I just pulled three 12-hour days in a row and am likely to pull another tomorrow. I have somehow been able to squeeze social commitments around this, and providing ad hoc babysitting for my nieces on the weekends. On top of all this, I am still going through the grief of losing my beloved Frank. Suffice it to say I’m kinda having a not-fun time right now.

Bertie’s Blog is definitely a priority, and it’s going to get done eventually. In a few weeks the worst of the work stuff will hopefully subside, and I’ve decided to bite the bullet and seek a bit of therapy (we have a few low cost options in Australia). But yeah, i’m just a teensy bit exhausted and stressed and strung out at the moment, so a few things will have to take a backseat temporarily 🙃

Okay so, since you may be able to tell my RotE fever has returned I thought it might be time for a little Realm of the Quarantine update/thot dump. May be a little scattered and it gets personal but here we go!

1. Yes, it has been a fucking full year between finishing Mad Ship and finally cracking open Ship of Destiny, but yes, we are still going! Again, I have been following my sister's pace with this read, and she is chronically ill and a parent of a wild 4 year old (who I essentially co-parent just btw) so her capacity to read at all can fluctuate wildly. She was maybe a quarter through Ship of Destiny when she fell into a severe slump and so I just never started it after finishing Mad Ship. She picked up the book every so often but I wasn't confident she would keep it up and I preferred to be stuck between books than between chapters. Anyway, she finally hit her stride in December and finished Liveship, and now she is almost finished Fool's Errand!! She was literally sobbing today and I was like oh shit it's happened... Nope it's only the bit where Fitz and Dutiful go through the skill pillar leaving the Fool and Nighteyes behind 🙃 honey, you got a big storm comin (I'm sorry)

2. Realm of the Quarantine? Still? Yeah, for the sake of tagging it doesn't make sense to change the name, but also my brother just got covid 🙃 first one in our family (he's okay!!) so the legacy lives on I guess. Anyway I think the name will always fit because it's a good way of tying it to the when and why of its beginnings. Literally insane that this will be the third year of this reread lol huh??

3. On that note, I cannot WAIT for the day I get to inhale this series again at my own (supremely unhealthy) pace. I was so looking forward to picking up on all the nitty gritty details and through lines because this is my first time reading chronologically and yeah I still can to an extent but it's now once again been years since I read the first books so ya know, the cohesion just isn't there.

4. On THAT note, I have definitely been pretty rusty getting back into the series. I'm engaged and enjoying it while I'm reading but you should see the amount of tabs compared to the others lol, and the amount of notes. I think it's just taking a while for my feelings about the story to kick back in all the way, but that is definitely happening more and more as I go on (almost halfway through now)! There are also just a lot of dropped threads, things I was keeping track of in my notes before which I don't have a clear enough memory of to keep following now, so it's honestly just kind of hard to know what kinds of things I should be noting? But again that's getting better. I might actually read my notes from the previous books tomorrow cos that would help, I'm sure. All this is linked with the fact that my sister, neice and I have just moved into our own place together, out from an extremely unhealthy situation. The move was really sudden, and although an incredible opportunity it was also inhumanly stressful and exhausting. I became severely dissociated and I'm still finding my way back to myself. But honestly getting back to RotE has been a big help with that!! It's just that yeah, there are so many disconnects whether it's my memory, the flow of the story being interrupted by a long break or my ability to feel much. It's all getting better. But I just wanted to put that out there in case my Ship of Destiny write up ends up being a bit of a skinny legend :( I know it doesn't actually matter I just am kinda sad about it because this trilogy is so dense and I was connecting so many dots and now it's like someone came and cut all the strings on my serial killer corkboard and I'm starting from scratch. But oh well!!

5. There is no greater motivator for reading than to know your sister is experiencing some absolute fucking PEAK Fitz and the Fool content without you

6. Speaking of which, you may notice a contradiction between my stated disconnect from Liveship and claiming my RotE madness is back. Well, this is actually not an entirely new phenomenon. Last time I was reading Liveship I wasn't disconnected from it, but it did still ignite my Fitz/Fool rabies. I'd be reading Liveship all day, perhaps without so much as a mention of Amber popping up, yet spend all night dreaming about Fitz and the Fool? Honestly just takes the most flimsy of threads for those two to hijack my brain. But I'm not complaining about it.

7. Sadly have not been struck with inspiration for memes yet, but hopefully Sa will bless me soon.

8. Long story short, I'm back and becoming more and more obsessed every day which strangely is a sign I'm doing much better lol. It sounds strange but if my sister keeps this going and I can make it through Tawny Man without any major interruptions I think it'll genuinely be really good for my mental health. The ability to get excited about something, be unapologetically passionate, think critically, experience a masterpiece which might inspire me to do some writing of my own and just generally spend time on something I love are all things that have been missing from my life. Returning to RotE is far from the most important change in my life right now but it is intrinsically tied to those changes. A friend to accompany me on this new road. Sorry to be cheesy I just honestly have worked so relentlessly and hopelessly hard to get here all while never really believing I would arrive. I still don't really believe it but I want to. The fact I even have the mental clarity or will to put this post together is remarkable on its own. So I'm taking stock. I've missed talking shit with you guys, I hope we all have a beautiful year 💫
