Coocaroos Cafe & Juice Bar

Upon entering this cafe positive vibes slap you in the face. The chill rastafari aura, really welcomes you as you walk deeper into the cafe. As soon as you are spotted by the owner he comes to greet you and see if you are in need of anything. They sell vegan food and even have coco frio.The people who come to the cafe are friendly and, it’s really a great community. They serve food, wine, appetizers and drinks. The stage is small, but when you’re on it all of the attention is focused on you, it’s always open for new performers and the crowd really acknowledges the fact that you are a performer. Unlike many venues and spots who have audiences who aren’t into poetry and just want to feel good. It’s safe to say that this cafe is really open to spoken word.

Smoking there is no problem! There is a chill spot where anyone who is a guest at the cafe can sit and smoke or toke drink some wine and enjoy the evening.

The time allotted for your performance varies. Anywhere between 10-15 minutes is acceptable. There is a ‘headliner’ that has more time but the headliner was actually great the time I went. Worth watching.

Sign up time is around 8-9. They are prompt.

Across the street from Coocaroos is a liquor store with amazing prices and variety. They even sale papers, and cigarettes. This place is a wonderful spot all around and they host many events apart from open mic. They are supportive of any type of artist or person.

It is really hard to find a place that accepts artist expression now a days, and this is one of those places that really make you feel like it’s cool to be you. Although, it is always cool to be yourself even in a place no one understands you. It’s sad to say it’s outside my hood that I find a place that is really positive and real.
