Over the years, scientists have managed to unveil the existence of quite a few intriguing particles, pushing the entire field of physics forward with each discovery. There's the "God Particle" for instance, aka the Higgs Boson that grants all other particles their masses. There's also the so-called "Oh My God!" particle, an unimaginably energetic cosmic ray.

Its discoverers, including Osaka Metropolitan University researcher Toshihiro Fujii, don’t know where the particle came from or indeed what it is. They also still aren't sure what kind of violent and powerful process could have given rise to something as energetic as Amaterasu.

"This is the most energetic charged particle ever detected by the Telescope Array experiment," Fujii told Space.com.

The hope is that, just as Amaterasu is credited with the creation of Japan according to the Shinto tradition, the Amaterasu particle can help create an entirely new branch of high-energy astrophysics.

High-energy cosmic rays are extremely rare to begin with, but Fujii said the Amaterasu particle has an energy level not seen in a staggering 30 years of cosmic ray detections.

In fact, when the researchers spotted Amaterasu with the Telescope Array experiment — involving 507 detectors spread across 270 square miles (699 square kilometers) of the high desert of Millard County, Utah —they initially thought the detection must be some kind of mistake.

"I thought it would be my mistake or bug, and then after checking the details of the event, I was excited to find it was not an error," Fujii said.

First spotted by the Telescope Array experiment on May 27, 2021, the Amaterasu particle exhibits an energy of 224 exa-electron volts (EeV). For contest, one EeV is equivalent to 10¹⁸ electron volts. This puts Amaterasu on a similar energy level to the most energetic cosmic ray ever discovered — yes, that's the "Oh My God!" particle, which was detected in Oct. 1991 by the Fly’s Eye camera in Dugway Proving Ground, Utah. The latter had an energy of 320 EeV.

"The Amaterasu particle should be an important messenger from the universe about extremely energetic phenomena, but we need to disentangle the origin of this mysterious particle," Fujii explained.

There isn’t an astrophysical object, or any cosmic event for that matter, in the direction from which the sun goddess particle appears to have come from. That's why scientists are pretty unclear on what led to its creation.

But, while the origins of the Amaterasu particle may be currently unknown, Fujii does have some avenues of investigation to follow up on. Importantly, some of these ideas could extend beyond the Standard Model of particle physics, which is the best outline we have of the universe’s particle zoo and how each of those particles interact with one another.

This is Toast!

I adopted him earlier this week. He’s seven-ish months old, he sits on my laptop during zoom meetings, and he purrs like somebody trying to start a broken lawnmower. I can and will burn the very Heavens out of the sky to keep him safe.

Picking a name for Toast was challenging. I compiled a list of about 130 names, almost all of which were suggested by friends.  I put each name through a series of trials, the most important ones being the “am I embarrassed to yell this across the apartment” test, and the “am I going to be able to explain this reference to a coworker or grandparent without sounding like a total dweeb” test.  Many failed.

The full list of potential names, organized by category, is below the cut.  But first, I’d like to go through a few honorable mentions that almost made it:

Jack Purrsons, named after Jack Parsons, the mad cultist and founder of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Notable for being one of the most important rocket engineers to ever live, attempting to summon the Thelemite goddess Babalon to Earth, and dying at age 37 in a nitroglycerin explosion while making bootleg Hollywood pyrotechnics.

KV Spectral Class, pronounced “Kay Vee.”  I am told that this is the spectral class of stars that shine orange.  It has become apparent that I am friends with an unusually high number of astrophysicists.

The same name as my sister’s cat.  I would just type it, except it’s also the name of her son.  The cat came first.  Giving my cat the same name as both her cat and her child would be a fun little bit of vicious sibling mockery.

Roomba.  This one is just adorable.

I’ll be real honest here. It’s the same as other ask or rp blogs around here, it doesn’t really matter to me. I say go for it. Just keep in mind of somethin’…

The real kicker: I’m not fully an ask or rp blog. This is just my main blog and I post whatever the hell I want. If people wanna ask stuff, I reply. It’s always fun either way. I answer how I would react, bein’ “in character” comes naturally I suppose. But at the end of the day, we all have fun here and that’s what matters to me. Knowin’ I make someone’s day just by bein’ me and goofin’ off in those crack asks? That’s what keeps me goin’.

A Dying Deathless Prophet

Yesterday

My heart began to fail, my lungs began to be oppressed by water, my skin began to fill with water and my body was covered in sore blisters and patches because the Archangel Gabriel has been torturing my energy body with Hell bound lice and worms (spiritual in nature, rather than material) and although I had already died 556 times and been brought back by time manipulations and assistance from the future my physicality just cannot stand it, I am still living in a physical body.

These spiritually filthy lice and worms eat the soul and I had seen them crawling and writhing under my skin, after a few months of this soul torture my material body begins to respond with infections and a slow and disgusting death.

A death which cannot actually happen and so I limp forward, like the living dead.

My eyes unable to swivel, cadaverous and nearing a total physical death I staggered bloated across the road to a neighbour’s house to try and get an ambulance on Christmas Day.

The souls gathered in Paradise to welcome me to cross over into my afterlife, but I could not cross as I contain the Higgs Boson God Particle Apple, something the Angel refuses to recognise.

So the Goddess Diana kept me alive long enough to get to a hospital, maneouvering me like a living dead zombie prophet.

‘The Archangel Gabriel is murdering a Prophet who works righteously for tortured children and women on Christmas Day’ said the Goddess Diana.

He is nearing the end of his cycle, clinging on to his Angelic role and refusing to become the new Devil.

Hence the objection.

In the hospital, near death, my affliction could not be identified as it was soul attack not material.

I was sent home again, to face the same constant and circular spiritual battles.

The solution is for me to Awaken and so I seek another Ogbanje.

The Angel has been delaying, keeping Ogbanje assistance away.

He has been trying to work a fantasy, the fantasy of free love and spirit walking.

Neither of these are realistic when it comes to the human mind, emotions or body.

The Angel is a misogynist, preferring men. He wanted to belittle me and bring me to my knees in Spirit, making me weak so that I would welcome being saved by Ngalle Charles on the Other Side.

I would not accept it and so he began to hurt me and would not stop. A grudge between myself and Roxanne since the 16th century has not helped.

Where are the female prophets in their power? Where are the female Buddhas?

What has happened to the spiritual path for women?

I am nearing a total desire for death and suicide, but still I fight on.

Constant solutions are overturned by a blind and compelled and wrong minded Fairy, the Gabriel.

The future must happen, but without help I will become broken and be unable to preach or heal or even write.

A vegetable, disabled prophet cannot bring in the vision for a Golden Era of Divine Intervention for the Gods.

Gabriel is Mad.

Diana’s Future mind is now trying to assist.

Darla Gods, Sof and Sol Gods and all harmonies must be replaced and allowed to function against the manipulations and vengeances of this imbalanced and resistant Angel.
