HAPPY NEW GEAR!
Hello and welcome to 2022, TGCollectors!
We hope you had an excellent Christmas and we wish you all a Happy New Year! With a stacked release schedule across the next 52 weeks or so, we’re back, fighting fit and hungry to get started. We say fit (and hungry for that matter) but the amount of food that was needlessly consumed over the past few weeks means we’re on salad until February.
It seems like Sony’s hangover from New Year’s Eve however, was a mild one... On the back of this news, perhaps they weren’t even drinking! Instead their team has been hard at work behind the scenes to deliver us this EPIC news in the first week of Jan!
When the PlayStation VR launched back in 2016, it blew our tiny minds. In fact, when I played VR Worlds and descended into the ocean’s dark abyss for an accidental showdown with a great white shark, I almost lost control of my bladder. I’ve never been more scared in all my life. My therapist is helping me through it and we’re starting to make progress. Dramatic? Me? Never.
You get the gist, this was a massively impressive step for console gaming and one that often left us sweating like we’d had a workout after a few hours of playing. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - we’re looking at you. Finding yourself on the other side of the living room after taking the headset off will never not be confusing to me.
Indeed it’s had an exceptional run, but now we look to the future. With Sony’s confirmation of Playstation VR2 and the new PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller on their way, could we see launch before the end of 2022? We bloody hope so.
Its statement of intent to take “gaming to a whole new level, enabling a greater sense of presence and allowing players to escape into game worlds like never before” is one that we at TGC read with huge excitement. Me? I’m just hoping they’ve left that great white shark in 2016.
If the confirmation of all this wasn’t enough, then how about a sneak peek at a game to go with it? Fans of Horizon, contain yourselves. It seems the team at Guerrilla aren’t content with only delivering a potential game of the year in Horizon Forbidden West, but have also been hard at work on Horizon Call Of The Mountain for PlayStation VR2:
youtube
After a quite miserable 2021, we’d say the gaming Gods have seen to it that we get it all back this year!
Of course for all you tech-heads out there, we know you’ll be looking for more precise information. As such, we’ve taken the below from the PlayStation Blog to cater for your needs:
Visual Fidelity: For a high-fidelity visual experience, PS VR2 offers 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view, and foveated rendering. With an OLED display, players can expect a display resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and smooth frame rates of 90/120Hz.
Headset-based Controller Tracking: With inside-out tracking, PS VR2 tracks you and your controller through integrated cameras embedded in the VR headset. Your movements and the direction you look at are reflected in-game without the need for an external camera.
New Sensory Features: PS VR2 Sense Technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, 3D Audio, and the innovative PS VR2 Sense controller to create an incredibly deep feeling of immersion. Headset feedback is a new sensory feature that amplifies the sensations of in-game actions from the player. It’s created by a single built-in motor with vibrations that add an intelligent tactile element, bringing players closer to the gameplay experience. For example, gamers can feel a character’s elevated pulse during tense moments, the rush of objects passing close to the character’s head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character speeds forward. Additionally, PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech makes sounds in the player’s surroundings come alive, adding to this new level of immersion.
Eye Tracking: With eye tracking, PS VR2 detects the motion of your eyes, so a simple look in a specific direction can create an additional input for the game character. This allows players to interact more intuitively in new and lifelike ways, allowing for a heightened emotional response and enhanced expression that provide a new level of realism in gaming.
Sit tight, TGCollectors... More on this as soon as we get it!!!
Until then, we wish you a prosperous start to the year and beyond.
The future is now.

Minoans and a Snail Farm
August 15, 2022 - Happy Dormition of the Mother of God - a big freaking Cretean holiday!!!! (We were involved in a big ass traffic jam today as faithful Creatan families visited their churches for prayers and bread. WOWZA!!)
Greetings from Beautiful Crete on this holiday Monday.
Yesterday we took it easy.  We had a leisurely breakfast here at the resort, did a small grocery store run, casually enjoyed our private mini-pool, had some short - but much needed - naps, I fell down the stairs** and we had a very late lunch - so late we called it “dinner."  Mark went to bed around 9:00pm  but Kepler and I managed to stay up - chatting away - until 11:00 pm - YAY US!!. ( I did wake up at 4:00 AM though…) We are slowly - but surely - turning the corner and adjusting to our new time zone, EEST (Eastern European Summer Time.)
Another piece of info  I found  interesting - albeit of little or no value to normal people -  is that we will stay in this time until we leave for Scotland on September - BUT the time zone name changes to TKT (Turkëya Time) when we arrive in Ankara, Thursday.  If you grew up in the USA or in Australia you might get the idea that time zones are pretty standardly drawn and follow - for the most part -  the longitude lines of the globe - but NOPE!  Check out the photo below ...
Tumblr media
and if you are interested here is the website where you can see that the time zones have different names depending on where you are standing on the globe - for example GMT - Greewnich Mean Time (GMT) the foundation of all the time zones - is called Zulu Time Zone (ZTZ) in Africa.  Cool- huh?  Man, I love this kinda' stuff!!
Just as an aside - you know who is NOT in Greenwich Mean Time during the summer? You guesses it - Greenwich.
But back to today…. Yesterday we lazed - today we learned.  First destination: Tylossos and the Ancient Culture of the Minoan Civilization. Here is a picture of everyone at the site upon our arrival.
Tumblr media
Along the way to Tylossos we kept seeing signs like this:
Tumblr media
Now, I can't tell you how much fun we had with the whole "Snail Farm" concept. Just imagine little tiny barns and little tiny pastures. Can you milk a snail? Imagine the "snail dogs" helping the snail farmers move those snails from one area to another. Are their snail races???? But when it was all said and done - we didn't go to the Snail Farm - but later Kepler googled it and it got such great reviews from visitors, we wish we had gone. I did however take pictures of snail s- who obviously have escaped from the "farm." Another tangent - was the farmer cruel?
Tumblr media
Ok - enough about snails - let's move on to the Minoans. Who are the Minoans?, you ask.  I'll let Wikipedia tell you first and I’ll give you my take:
The Minoan civilization was a Bronze Age Aegean civilization on the island of Crete and other Aegean Islands, whose earliest beginnings were from c. 3500 BC, with the complex urban civilization beginning around 2000 BC, and then declining from c. 1450 BC until it ended around 1100 BC, during the early Greek Dark Ages.[1] It represents the first advanced civilization in Europe, leaving behind a number of massive building complexes, sophisticated art, and writing systems. Its economy benefited from a network of trade around much of the Mediterranean.
The civilization was rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century through the work of British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans. The name "Minoan" derives from the mythical King Minos and was coined by Evans, who identified the site at Knossos with the labyrinth of the Minotaur. The Minoan civilization has been described as the earliest of its kind in Europe,[2] and historian Will Durant called the Minoans "the first link in the European chain".[3]
The Minoans built large and elaborate palaces up to four storeys high, featuring elaborate plumbing systems and decorated with frescoes. The largest Minoan palace is that of Knossos, followed by that of Phaistos.
Still in the mindset of Covid, we opted for the smaller Tylossos - and much less visited site -  to stay away from the maddening crowds even though Knossos is the better restoration of this civilization.  We made the right decision.  We had the place completely to ourselves - until 2 other families arrived - but we stayed away from them and they didn’t stay long - so ta-da! OURS!! We owned this place!!! This site consists of 3 mansions built in 3,000 BCE. THINK ABOUT THAT!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the photo above, Kepler is pointing out the rain gutters that all lead to the huge cistern. I would LOVE to post the picture of the damn cistern - but Tumblr is struggling posting my pictures and I have tried WAY TOO many times - so I'm moving on. (This is exactly why we split up earlier - FYI!!). I may be able to post it by itself or not....
I read a lot  and watched many YouTubes about the Minoans before we got here.  Yesterday Mark and I watched an excellent YouTube that lasted about 90 minutes.  Here is my take away - 2,000 years of culture in a couple of paragraphs:
The Minoan were inventive, highly creative, peace-loving, seafaring people.  They had a strong navy that dominated the western Mediterranean Sea - so much so that they did not wall their cities as other civilization had done. They had elaborate clothing, homes and community with running water - and get this - FLUSH toilets!  The men were traders, sailor and fisherman and mostly away from home for long periods of time.  The women were the community leaders taking care of the political and governmental issues.  No art has been found depicting war although we have wonderful Minoan art depicting their lives. They decorated the walls of their homes and palaces with frescos. I love this one depicting the sport of "bull jumping" and it makes me think that the gymnastic "pommel horse" was misnamed. You can see that Minoan athlete stuck that landing!!
Tumblr media
The Minoans had a written language and while we have many examples of it, it remains undeciphered. Maybe some day a Minoan Rosetta Stone will be uncovered - but not yet though Minoan scholars, archeologists and anthropologists continue to work on it with fingers crossed. Here is a photo of a piece of the writing found at Tylissos. The picture following that is the most famous example of Minoan writing and just happens to be in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum - which makes we want to go...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minoan clothing was colorful and elaborate. Men wore a kilt-like garb and women wore dresses that had deep v-necks never covering the breasts, cinched waists and skirts with flounces of difference colors. We have no art of Minoan women doing maternal or domestic activities - but I'm guessing the art depicts women of wealth and power who give those "jobs" to people serving them - probably enslaved.
The women leaders were depicted carrying labrys and snakes. Kinda' of "you don't want to mess with this" message.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So - anyway - we had a great day and now I really feel the urge to see Knossos. All I need is one more vote and we will do that on Tuesday or Wednesday. This is the price you pay when I start to read everything I can get my hands on about "something.:
We finished our visit with a lovely lunch right on the Mediterranean Sea. The location was spectacular and the food was delicious!
Tumblr media
We have two more days in Crete and we will make the best of them!
**. Yeah, yeah.  I fell down some stairs.  I’m fine, but sore and I skinned my elbow and twisted my knee a bit - but I’m fine.  Although it has been more than a month since I had cataract surgery on my right eye - things are still taking their sweet time healing and my depth perception is intermittent - at best.  I have been SUPER careful on steps because of this - but with only 4 more to go and talking to Kepler upstairs and Mark downstairs at the same time, I forgot I couldn’t see so I arrived at my destination in a rather unorthodox manner.  As I was tumbling, I thought of our dear friend Susan who recently did the same trick that resulted in major reconstructive surgery and a summer of “sitting.”  I was lucky and I will be even "careful-er.”  (Keep healing, dear Susan!)

Cabana Catalogs 10 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
This year mother’s day is scheduled to be celebrated on Sunday, May 9. Mother’s Day has been celebrated for as long as there have been women. How can we show our appreciation for mothers, particularly when we’re separated? Check out these ten fantastic (and virtual) gifts to honor your mother, who just wants to spend time with you!
Tumblr media
Mother’s Day Celebration Date 2021
Mother’s Day honors mothers and is a time to make a concerted effort to remember and acknowledge their contributions to our lives. This day is also applied to several generations of women, including grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and stepmothers, as well as mother figures.
Mother’s Day is commemorated every year on the second Sunday in May in the United States. While Mother’s Day is commonly marked as a national holiday in the United States, it is not a national or public holiday (when businesses are closed). Check the date schedule for mother’s day celebration in 2021 and ahead.
Year   Mother’s Day
2021   Sunday, May 9 2022   Sunday, May 8 2023   Sunday, May 14 2024Sunday, May 12
The History Of Mother’s Day
In ancient times, festivals celebrating mothers were often associated with gods and goddesses. The Phrygians celebrated Cybele, the Great Mother of the Gods, with a festival. The Greeks and Romans also revered the goddesses’ mothers. Durga-puja, an important festival in India, honors the goddess Durga even today.
People in the Middle Ages will visit their home or “mother” church once a year in the middle of Lent. (Back then, children as young as ten years old were often sent to work!) Historians believe that the return of the “home” church was responsible for the practice of children taking the day off to visit their mothers and families.
This holiday was dubbed “Mothering Sunday” in 16th-century England. On the fourth Sunday of Lent, children—mostly daughters who had gone to serve as domestic servants—would be given the day off to return to their mothers and home parish. The eldest son or daughter would carry a “mothering cake,” which the whole family would cut and eat. Family reunions became the standard, with sons and daughters taking overall household responsibilities and cooking a special meal in honor of their mother. The mother will go to special church services with her relatives during the day.
Refreshment Sunday, also known as Mothering Sunday, was a day when the fasting laws were relaxed. (Jesus also fed the audience with loaves of bread in the gospel of the day.) The typical cake is a fruit cake with two layers of almond paste, known as a Simnel cake. On top of the cake were 11 marzipan icing balls, which represented the 11 apostles. (Judas isn’t mentioned.) Sugar violets were traditionally introduced as well.
Ann Reeves Jarvis, Julia Ward Howe, and Ann’s daughter, Anna M. Jarvis, were influential in creating the Mother’s Day practice in the United States. Their inspiring work has influenced mothers to join working hands and legitimized how vital the tradition is.

by Floater1010

He then looked at Phichit, “I was a figure skater for Japan but I retired about 18 years ago and currently, I work as a coach and choreographer with my partner. I skated under the name Katsuki Yuuri. I am, as of now in my mind at least, 47 years old.”
Lost

Time's Wingèd Chariot
by LunaChi_KuroShihone
Summary:
“The universe is big. It’s vast and complicated and ridiculous. And sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles.”
-- Words were whispered, silent and sacred, in the cover of the night.
He was their savior, their friend; he helped those in need and those that were lonely and alone, those that had nothing more to loose and those that had everything to.
Always helping, never demanding; his name was a whisper on the wind, a promise to those who needed dreams and hope.
He was the oppressor of the oppressing, the savior of the weak; the warrior of many faces, who came if you called — the oncoming storm, the living legend. He was the Victor.
Always a different face and different body, but with the same ice-blue eyes for each and every incarnation.
Seven Years and Twenty-Four Hours

But as time goes on, Yuuri finds himself torn between his old life, and a new one that would hand him everything he ever wanted...but at the cost of his real identity.
Same Same but Different
by aereandria
Summary: Vera’s comet was spotted with some excitement in 2068. Considering the comet’s trajectory it probably be the closest a comet has ever come to the earth’s atmosphere. However what scientists had not predicted, had not guessed was that while the comet had indeed come the closest to the Earth’s atmosphere that any other comet as predicted so close, in fact, that it had skimmed the surface of the atmosphere itself. This caused the comet to fracture. The larger rock continued on it’s path largely undeterred however the smaller rocks that had been sheered off and fell to the Earth’s surface.
Yuuri and Viktor had been married for almost 50 years and had been living a happy life in Hasetsu. They had gone to watch the comet as it bolted across the sky as the New Year came in. That's when it happened.
Foreign Yet Familiar
by aereandria

Summary: It's the year 2134. Katsuki Yuuri, recently turned 18, just got his soulmark. There's really only one thing left to do: submit it to the online database and figure out who his match is, meet up with them and hopefully live happily ever after. Seems simple enough, right? Well, it would be, if his soulmate wasn't Viktor Nikiforov, a figure skating legend from the early 2000s.
AKA the story where Yuuri invents time travel to be with his soulmate, and shenanigans happen.
