Chapter one..
Lets Go
Patsy Winmore and Judith Smart, better known as Judy, were my best friends from Uni, we had all met during our first week there, and just seemed to automatically click, even though we was all so different in natures. Judy was studying advanced Math, she came from an intellectual family, and even though she aced every test she had ever taken, she didn't come across as smart, in fact 99% of the time she acted dumber then the rest of us. But she was a sweet girl and so easy to get along with. Patsy was taking English Literature, I had known Patsy for years, after meeting during a poetry recital at college, she was there for the poetry, I was there for the tormented guys who were doing most of the readings.
We got along like a house on fire and both decided to attend the same University. She was pretty laid back when it came to it, although at times I could see she despaired of my lifestyle choices. As for me; let me introduce myself, I'm Jazmin Elizabeth Waite, born and raised in North London. The spoiled youngest daughter of a comfortably wealthy family, who owned a clothes shop in the West End. As a pretty child, with green eyes, shining auburn hair and fair skin with freckles, I grew up wanting for nothing, using my angelic looks to gain whatever it was my heart so desired and I found as I grew older that my good looks and slim figure got me what I wanted when it came to guys. I was never afraid to play a shy, demure almost angelic girl when I needed to. I had a pretty laid back attitude to my studies and studied Art in both College and University, not that I was dumb, far from it.
I just didn't want to spend my nights studying, nope, what I wanted was to be able to play the field and enjoy my young life; and at twenty one, I thought I deserved it.
It was a warm summer's Saturday night, towards the end of June 1971, and us girls had decided to go out and celebrate the arrival of summer break. Patsy knew of a band that was playing at the local Uni bar, I wasn't overly sure about it but we all decided to go anyway.
The Rose and Crown was packed with students as we pushed our way towards the bar.
It was our first night out together since the end of the University year and we was looking forwards to downing a few drinks and perhaps even scoring with a couple of guys, if our luck held, that was. Well, that's what I was looking forwards to anyway, I wasn't entirely sure what the others were looking forwards to.
Judy almost practically elbowed her way through the crowd, as she led us towards the packed bar, where she leaned one arm against the sticky surface, as both Patsy and I squeezed in beside her. I flashed my eyes towards the guys who seemed to open up around us to let us through, smiled sweetly and demurely at them and mouthed a 'thank you' before turning my attention back to my two friends, who both had knowing looks on their faces.
“What?” I exclaimed acting slightly affronted by their looks as Judy sighed my way before turning and signaling to the barman.
“Whats your poison Girls?” the barman yelled, his eyes settling on Judy's Chest.
“Oi! I'm up 'ere mate!" she clicked her fingers in his face drawing his eyes upwards until his eyes met hers, “That's better, 2 Vodka tonics and a large Gin and tonic please. No ice though, we don't want them watered down anymore then they will be.” She smirked as he tutted and wandered away to get our drinks.
Whilst we waited, I turned and leaned my back against the bar, both my elbows propped behind me, I let my eyes roam about the crowded bar. I was glad in a way that it was so busy, that way we might actually score tonight; I felt really good about how I looked, I'd let Patsy help pick out my outfit, telling her I wanted to stand out a little but not to blind people with a 'Fuck Me Now' attitude, she was the most conservative of us all and the knee length denim skirt and loose fitting, pink, low cut, off the shoulder gypsy top she choose from my small selection of casual, ordinary, comfort clothes fitted the bill. Much better then the jeans and shirt that I had chosen, this way I felt cutely, sexy but not to over the top and screaming slut! I'd even let her style my long auburn hair so that it fell loosely around my face, and as a thank you I had done her make up for her, outlining her eyes in so much khol that they looked smokey and sultry, I was pretty good at make up, I had been practising for years, and had used it to accentuate both hers and my own features. As I said I felt good about how I looked tonight.
“So who's playing tonight?” I asked as a glass was thrust into my hand, the drink slopping out slightly and coating my long fingers. I looked up at the guys stood beside us as I sucked the spilled drink off my fingers, dragging them slowly across my lips, my tongue lapping out to catch the drips, my eyes locked on theirs. A sharp cough drew my attention back to Judy and Patsy who were both shaking their heads at me; They weren't angry though because they had the biggest grins on their faces that I had seen in a long time. I grinned back at them before I returning my attention to the stage where a drum kit, a couple of guitars and 3 tall Mic stands stood waiting for the band, I could hear slight feed back as the mic's got switched on.
“Oh some Uni band called 'Queen' or something like that, they're supposed to be really good, one of my class mates saw them a few weeks back, but they have gained a couple of new members since then, so I'm not sure if that still stands.” Patsy said as she followed my lead and turned her head towards the stage, “They're all supposed to be really good looking guys as well.” she finished as she sipped her drink, almost choking on the liquid as the band started to file on. “Bloody 'ell the rumors weren't wrong, they're bloody well gorgeous, specially that tall Guitar player, my god look at his hair!” she moaned softly her eyes taking in every inch of the tall dark haired guitarist. I watched as four extremely good looking guys took up their positions and picked up their instruments, the two guitarists plucking at random strings on their guitars. I found couldn't take my eyes off the slender figure of the blonde haired drummer as he took his seat and expertly twirled his sticks in his hands. He looked like some kind of model, with his perfect features, heavy lidded eyes and full lips framed by a mass of long blonde hair, he was almost to good looking to be a guy.
“Hello you beautiful people!” a familiar voice sang into the mic, drawing my attention away from the drummer, I felt my jaw drop as I stared dumbstruck at an extremely exotic, aristocratic face that I hadn't seen for at least 2 years.
“I know him!” I turned to the others, shock evident on my face.
“Who?” Judy yelled as the heavy beat of the drums and deep vibrations from the bass filled the air.
“Keep yourself alive!” The familiar voice shouted into the mic before starting to sing as he tapped a tambourine against his wrist. I noticed almost every one in the bar starting to tap their feet and nod their heads in time to the music as the singer pranced about the stage.
“Him.” I almost whispered before realizing that I wouldn't be heard. I felt my brows knot together in confusion
“What?” Patsy looked at me.
“Him! I fucking know him!” I shouted at her, drawing startled looks from the surrounding crowd as they glanced from me to the guy on stage that I was now pointing a shaking hand at. I couldn't take my eyes off this blast from the past. He hadn't changed a single bit apart from his hair being at least 6 inches longer.
“What? How? What?” Judy and Patsy exchanged confused glances before turning back to me.
“What are you on about Jazmin?” Patsy placed a comforting hand on my upper arm. My frantic yelling had attracted the attention of the band and they were all shooting confused looks between me and their lead singer as they continued to play. The singer turned towards the crowd, his eyes searching for the person who was causing the commotion in the audience and confusing the band. When his eyes finally settled on me, his eyebrows rose dramatically in recognition and a huge smile spread across his features. He blew me a kiss and sent me a little wave as the next song started and the band continued with their set. I felt a huge smile grow across my face as I watched him prance across the stage, he still knew how to command the attention. Patsy and Judy turned to me in shock as I smiled sweetly up at the singer.
“Did that singer just blow you a bloody kiss Jazmin? You better start explaining.” Judy yelled in my ear
“Yeah, Yeah he did, I know him, His name is Farrokh. I used to live next door to his family a few years back, before my parents decided to move. We was quite close even though he is 3 years older then me.” I couldn't stop the huge smile that was spreading over my face as I watched my old friend prance and dance about the stage, I could tell my friends were slightly gob smacked at this bit of information, but they soon realized that this meant we could effectively get closer to the band, Hopefully in more ways then one.
It felt strange watching my old friend up there performing his heart out, Farrokh and I had met about four years ago, when his family moved in next door to mine. He was a few years older then me but was such a nice guy that I was happy to let him hang out with me, he was as much of a slut as I was, and we would often discuss juicy secrets about guys or girls that we both dated, if you could call a one night stand, or even a quickie round the back of the bar, dating. Of course he acted like he was an extrovert but in reality he was the shy one of us both, Often relying on me to start a conversation with strangers we met. Of all the guys I knew Farrokh would be the one who knew me best.
The girls and I enjoyed the rest of the bands set, their music wasn't overly heavy but rock enough to get feet tapping and heads nodding. Even I found myself bobbing along to the songs. I also found my attention being swung between my old friend and the drummer, he was absolutely gorgeous, his long blonde hair flowing around his face as he hit his drums with such passion it made my heart beat faster. Soon they were coming to the end of their set list and as they finished their last song, Judy motioned us back towards the bar, we wanted to get up there, and grab another drink, before the crowd descended and effectively made it almost impossible. I weaved through the crowd my hands gripping onto to Judy's in front of me and Patsy's from behind , we weren't gonna get separated this late in the evening.
“That was bloody amazing!” Judy gushed as we pushed our way through a group of guys, each of them smiling down at us as we passed, “and I cant believe that you know the lead singer. My god his voice was heavenly, and so damn powerful.” Judy once again squeezed her way between two tall guys to reach the bar “ 'scuse us mate, thanks” she smiled up at them as they moved aside to let us through. I batted my eyes up at the tallest and smiled sweetly before turning my attention back to what my friends were saying.
“2 Vodka Tonics and a large G and T,” Patsy ordered from the barman before turning back to join in the conversation. “Yeah, oh my god he was brilliant and did you see that tall guitarist? His playing was outstanding I mean, his fingers were a total blur on those strings, it completely took my breath away” she gushed, her cheeks glowing pink as she thought of the guitarists fingers.
“Are you sure that was just his playing Pats and you weren't imagining those fingers doing some other form of stroking and plucking?” Judy winked suggestively at Patsy before whispering softly "That's what I was thinking of with that damn bass players fingers... oh my god dreamy" she looked up to see both myself and Patsy staring at her our jaws hanging loose.
"Judy!" we both shouted, shocked at her words.
"What? Oh come on you both must have noticed the length of his fingers." she finished  as she searched in her pocket for some money for the drinks. The barman placed three glasses on the bar. “Oi any concessions for friends of the band? My mate 'ere knows their singer” she told the barman, trying to skim a bit of cash of the bill, as she pointed towards me. He turned his attention towards me and raised his eyebrows in question, before shaking his head while holding his hand out.
“Yeah well It was a while back, I am just surprised he recognized me.” I smiled as I reached across to take my drink from the bar, Watching as Patsy fumbled in her purse for some extra cash for the drinks.
“And why wouldn't I recognize you darling?” The lead singers voice spoke over my shoulder as his warm hand touched lightly on my arm, causing me to spin around to face him. “These drinks are on me.” He told the barman placing a note in front of him. “Hello Jazzy Darling. Long time no see.”
“Farrokh!” I shrieked as I flung my arms around his neck hugging him tightly, I felt his arms encircle my waist as he squeezed me in a loving, yet tight, embrace. “Air! Farrokh! I fucking need air, please!” I gasped as he released me from his grip, allowing me space to stand back and look up at him. He hadn't changed a bit in the last two years, well apart from his hair, but then again it was the style among the guys at the moment and I must admit it suited him.
“I go by Freddie now Jazzy darling,” He drawled in his smooth slightly feminine voice, calling me by the nickname he had given me years ago. “Farrokh is so yesterday, Freddie is much more me, don't you think my love.” he twirled a lock of my hair in his long elegant fingers as he spoke. I nodded at his words, he was right Freddie did suit him better. “You haven't changed at all sweetheart, you're still wowing the guys I see.” he lent in to whisper to me making me flick my eyes up to his before dropping them demurely to my drink.
“Well you know what I'm like Farrokh, I mean Freddie.” I smiled up at him before laughing softly.
A sharp, short cough behind him drew his attention, and I noticed his band mates standing watching us with small smiles on their faces. I felt the drummers eyes on me as he stood slightly behind the others, he had a damp tank top thrown over one shoulder, where he had obviously changed out of the one he wore whilst playing. I drew away from Freddie and played my shy card, lowering my eyes and allowing a blush to creep up my throat and over my cheeks.
”And you're still playing at that game as well, Jazzy darling” He whispered in my ear as he watched me play the card he knew all to well before raising his eyebrows and smirking down at me.
“Aren't you going to introduce us Fred?” the dark haired guitarist asked a sweet sexy smile on his lips. He was tall, wow he was so damn tall, he had to be at least six foot, his slender frame kinda looked slightly stretched, but then again all extremely tall people look stretched to me, But he had the kindest, gentlest eyes I had seen in a guy for a long time
“Of course, how rude of me. Brian, John, Roger, This, is Jazmin, my beautiful, if rather shy, friend from way back.” Freddie announced watching as I flicked my eyes up towards the rest of the band, and shaking his head slightly a small smile on his lips. “Jazmin this is Brian, our lead guitarist.” he stood back and let Brian move forwards, with his hand out stretched towards me. Judy nudged Patsy as my two friends watched the show before them unfold, they, like Freddie, knew I wasn't as shy as I made out to be, and they were both having a hard time not bursting into laughter.
“Nice to meet you Jazmin,” Brian gripped my hand firmly as he shook it, his dark brown eyes focused on mine. I bit my bottom lip lightly and smiled. His hand was soft and warm and his fingers were very long and slightly calloused from plucking at the guitar stings.
“Its good to meet you too Brian; You are an awesome player.” I almost whispered, as I glanced up at him from under my lashes, my words causing his face to grow pink. “and these lovely ladies are Judy and Patsy my best friends.” I finished, introducing the two girls stood with me, noticing how Patsy seemed to glow under his gaze, before she stepped forward with her hand outstretched towards his.
My attention was drawn away from my friends by the bass player as he stepped forwards and took the hand Brian had relinquished , lifting it to his lips and lightly kissing my knuckles.
“I'm John Deacon, Sometimes referred to as Deaky by these reprobates. I play bass, nothing spectacular, Its lovely to meet you Jazmin.” His voice was a lot deeper then Freddie's or Brian's and its mellow smoothness settled over me as gently as his lips had caressed my hand. He wasn't anywhere near as tall as Brian was, he could only be about five foot eight or nine. He was also very slender with long brown hair, that framed a slim, slightly pinched face, but he had a sweet smile and sparkling hazel eyes
“Well I wouldn't say your playing wasn't spectacular John, in fact I think you were all wonderful.” I smiled shyly at him, before turning and gesturing towards the two girls behind me "Patsy, Judy, this is ummm John." I mumbled introducing him to my friends and watching Judy get all flustered as he stepped towards her and took her hand in his.
“And this is Roger!” Freddie announced gaining my attention again, as he and Brian pushed the blonde haired drummer forward until he was stood before me, a sexy and slightly shy, smile on his full sensual lips, he had the most beautiful bright blue, sleepy, eyes. Come to bed eyes, Mum would have called them, because they seemed able to undress me with one gaze. He wasn't overly tall either but a little taller then John, but lord was he skinny, although I could see muscles rippling in his arms and across his chest. He held a slightly shaky hand out to me and I took it gently feeling the cool dampness of his palm.
“Ummm Call me Rog....” he uttered, his heavy lidded eyes lifting to meet mine and holding my gaze, He had the most gorgeous features, almost doll like. I watched as his eyes dropped slightly, to my mouth where I unconsciously snaked my tongue out to lick at my bottom lip. I felt myself begin to blush for real, feeling it start to grow up my throat and across my cheeks, burning hotter as I noticed him pulling his bottom lip between his teeth and lightly biting on it
“Uhhh yeah I'm Jazmin,” I whispered, savoring the soft smoothness of his hand before I let it go again. “Its ummm good to meet you Roger” I said honestly as I watched his cheeks begin to glow as well.
“Well Jazzy darling, you certainly haven't lost that touch of a 'certain something' you had back then.” Freddie whispered to me as he threw an arm around my shoulders and drew me forwards towards a table. “Come! Come girls, sit, sit, sit with us! I want to hear all your news Darling!” Freddie pulled out a free chair and ushered me to sit, as Brian and John  grabbed the rest of the drinks from the bar and herded the girls over to join us. “I am really not sure what is up with Rog, He isn't usually this quiet around girls, especially pretty ones like you.” Freddie confided in me as the others all took seats “in fact he can be a bit of a man whore, if you know what I mean” he nudged me laughing loudly at his own joke. I laughed along with him, as I watched Roger approach the table.
“So you and Fred are old friends? He said you were neighbours” Brian's voice dragged my attention towards where he was just taking a seat and pulling one out for Patsy to join him, John placed a large drink in front of me before pulling a chair out for Judy, who smiled sweetly at him as she sat, Roger grabbed an empty chair from the table behind us and swung it round, its back to the table, he threw one leg over and sat straddling it. I could sense his eyes on me as he sat, throwing a crumpled packet of cigarettes on the table along with a half empty box of matches.
“Ummm yeah, we used to live next door to each other for a while.”
“We was more then just neighbours darling.” Freddie interrupted throwing his arms wide as he elaborated “Jazzy here was the first friend I made in London, she basically dragged me everywhere she went, even though shes younger then me, she was more of a party animal then I was and she showed me how to enjoy life in this bustling city. In more ways then one” He slightly exaggerated the truth making me blush. “She taught me that life is to short to be boring and, well, without my Jazzy here I wouldn't be the man I am today.”
“Actually, I was more friends with his sister Kash, considering we were closer in age. Farrokh, I mean Freddie, started to tag along with us when we went shopping and he was quite happy to let us practice our make up skills on him.” I laughed softly as I remembered him in thick eyeliner and lipstick. “I must admit though, he got a bit of a shock when I took him along to the local club and showed him the best ways to pull.” I felt myself start to relax in the guys company and laughed as they smiled at us both.
“You taught Fred about pulling?” Brian spluttered slightly at my words, almost choking on his pint, he reached over and gently rested a hand on my thigh, those long slender fingers of his caressing across the skin lightly. I flicked my eyes up to his. “Now that is something I never thought he would need teaching.” He laughed.
“Yeah, Yeah I did” I snickered my eyes turning to Freddie's before I swung them back towards the others. “But, he was a natural at it, and I often would have to drag him home before he got in to deep.” I felt Brian's hand lightly squeeze my thigh before he lifted it and picked up his beer. I smiled as I scanned the others at the table, my eyes flashing across to where Roger sat biting on his thumb, his eyes fastened on mine, causing me to blush yet again. He reached forward and snagged his drink from the table in front of him. Then turned his face slightly towards John and they spoke quietly together, his eyes often darting towards me and then back to John again, he seriously looked like he was struggling with something.
“Oh darling, you certainly showed me everything I needed to know and we had so much fun doing so. But look at you now, all grown up and so pretty,” Freddie tucked a loose strand of my hair behind my ear and stroked my cheek with one finger as he spoke. “Isn't she pretty Rog? just like a picture.” He tried to draw his friend into the conversation.
Roger's eyes lifted to mine for a split second, before he darted them across to Farrokh's and then back to mine,
“Yeah she is” he growled before lowering his eyes back to his drink.
“Don't mind him Jazzy Darling,” Freddie whispered in my ear, “Obviously something, or someone might be on his mind.” He nudged me with his elbow and laughed at his own joke.
I just glanced back at Roger as Freddie spoke and nodded before lifting my glass to my lips.
