Strings Of Fate by A_Cypress_Coffin Frank Frankly lived life by simply trudging along most days, but all of that changes when a new neighbor, quite literally, crashes into him. 27k / multichap / ongoing - a very fun interpretation of Franklydear and how the puppets perceive / experience / handle the true nature of their reality. i Cannot recommend it enough!

To Read a Clock by TurnedWorm Frank and Eddie try to teach Wally to read a clock. They get a bit more than they bargained for. 2.7k words / oneshot / complete - sweet and also Haunting! a stellar combination, and an interesting take on Wally's perspective. ngl it gave me chills!

#doctor who #tenth doctor #martha jones #david tennant #freema agyeman #(good god. without even meaning to I went into 'psycho stream of consciousness tagging' mode. whoops)#always thinking of that one post #where OP mentions how the writing tries to make it seem like Ten looked right through Martha/etc #which is a good concept for demonstrating his grief. but also isnt what we really see throughout S3 #(not saying he wasn't a grieving MESS because he was. but he's a multi-faceted character and he can grieve AND value Martha simultaneously)#but we see such fierce protective instinct+trust; a bond between them that obviously isn't some one-sided affair #+ his clear intent to impress her/be admired and respected by her (apropos the post that inspired this sentiment)#but RTD obviously isn't the most infallible of writers #*cough* [list of reasons I cut down b/c long] *cough*#He can make Martha say “he's not seeing me/he doesn't look at me” but then you just watch with your eyes and you get a different story #It's like the opposite of when Moffat tries to make you believe someone is super important through bold claims without showing his work #instead RTD tries to make you believe Ten is functionally blind to Martha's existence while showing numerous examples of the contrary #then bring in the novels+myspace blog+cartoon that he all signed off on. Which tie together to create a canon backdrop #basically I said all of that to say this—#it's the whole reason I had to make this blog to get this sort of stuff off my chest (even if it's just for me sometimes)—#Ten not only SAW Martha—he trusted+respected+enjoyed+adored her. And it's a good thing #it doesn't cheapen his grief. I feel like people must think it does which is why I constantly see bad unnecessary takes about them #it just means that Martha was SO important to him and it's ok. they had a killer friendship outside the unrequited minutiae and it's ok #there's even a comic where 'someone' makes him believe she's Martha and he makes her change her appearance because “it's still too raw”#Just saying you don't say that sort of thing about someone whose existence you're all blasé about #Martha already gets fucked by the narrative in enough ways without people totally missing her significance in the Doctor's life #you don't have to ship them to appreciate them on a deeper level #anyway. fuck. if you actually read all of these then I'm so sorry #creating this blog has taught me that there are only like two people who feel the same way about tenmartha matters and it’s fine 😂#but if I didn’t give myself an outlet it would probably form a tumor SO there we are then

Still waiting on someone to explain why Wanda is “The Harbinger of Chaos”, the “Chaos Queen”, and her magic is called “Chaos Magic” when she literally has nothing to do with chaos. Like.. nothing. No symbolism, no philosophical connection, no plotline. Literally nothing lmao. Could’ve just called her the queen of sunsets or some shit, it would’ve made as much sense 😒.

Does it seem to anyone else like a lot of contemporary writers just don't trust the intelligence of their readers?? Because like. I've recently read three popular novels ("had to wait four months for my library hold to be fulfilled" kind of popular) by three different writers in three different genres, and every single one of them bread-crumbed conflict which they then instantly resolved. No space for the conflict to build and breathe, no space for it to accomplish anything in the story, no space for character growth or relationship development to occur in response to it.... just, hey, here's a conflict I laid some groundwork for, annnnnnd solved!!! In only three pages, baby!! Whoo! No need to fret! No need to sit with any discomfort!! It's already over!!!

Like. I'm sorry. I thought we were all here to watch a story unfold?? Not to be spoon fed mashed bananas like an itty bitty wittle baby? I don't understand the point of even introducing conflict that gets resolved within three pages. And that is not an exaggeration. In one of these novels, a potentially relationship-breaking interpersonal conflict happened between two main characters, and then literally three pages later it was all fixed. As if it hadn't happened at all. And it was never discussed again. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THAT???

To me this feels like writers not trusting me to stick with the story through discomfort, y'know? Like they think the second anything hard or worrying happens in the story, I'll bail immediately. Like they think I need to be constantly reassured that everything is going to be fine, like they're calming a fussing baby. As if I'm not here to enjoy a story unfolding.

I do not need to have food regurgitated into my mouth, actually. I am fully capable of chewing on the meat of the story. Just let the conflict actually matter. Let the characters feel and struggle with and respond to it. Stop treating me like I'm too stupid and fragile to engage with a real story.

#the one where the interpersonal conflict was magically fixed within three pages just.... really got to me #it probably bothered me the most because it was an otherwise promising book #it had a cool premise and a strong POV character #and theeeeeeen the exposition started #and then the telling after already showing #as though the writer wanted to make absolutely certain I couldn't possibly misinterpret what they'd already shown me #so they told me and then told me one more time in case I missed it #and it's like aldjkalkgjldjkgklaj #for the love of God please write like you're writing for someone with a brain and an attention span

the worst part is i can't even say he's wrong. they certainly did figure out how to contribute the city by joining the wrgp. but like. this is one of those things where it literally does not make sense. this is insane levels of logic. "we're not sure how to contribute to the city. we think entering a magic the gathering tournament will help." like. imagine saying that fr when your parents ask what you're going to do after you graduate college. "idk. thought i'd play card games and figure it out, man"

#yugioh 5ds #yusei fudo #anya rewatches yugioh 5ds sub #i'm cackling over this #like dude you FUCKIN SAVED THE CITY #ushio calling this out too with like ''uhm. you guys kinda saved the city? you don't have to prove anything?''#and they never fully answer why they feel they have to prove something #they just do #arguably this implies an insane level of overachieving from yusei crow and jack #since they're not satisfied with JUST saving the city #but like. it does kinda suck that neither crow nor jack got to move on from playing card games with this set up?#yusei moves on to working on the moment - that works SO MUCH with this statement #and their statements made here #i suppose if you take jack's ''the team that wins will have glory'' statement at face value him continuing to do dueling also makes sense #but it also DOESN'T because like. he ALREADY HAD glory. he's the fuckin former king #this tournament changes nothing. he continues on as if he's still trying to reach it #and it just. there's a lot with jack's writing this season i WILL NOT get into #but oh my god jack atlas is a woman to me the way she was mishandled #and crow's... a lot of it falls so fuckin flat #the three boys were ROBBED but also yusei fully never gets to ever reclaim being a teenager #he ends the series forced into a role he never once indicated he wanted #following the footsteps of his father who he never once indicated he wanted to follow the footsteps of #yusei's character suffers because the show never bothers to address this constant hero complex he has #it's never confronted in any MEANINGFUL way like atem and judai's were #atem's hero complex cost him everything in the waking the dragons arc for example #and judai's led him straight down the path of becoming the supreme king #but for yusei? it's never like. deconstructed. ever.#and it feels like suuuuch a missed moment to go hey yusei. you do not have to be the hero of the city. you are a teenage boy.#what you have done for the city IS ENOUGH you do not owe your life to everyone

My personal feelings in the Fionna and Cake ending is that it was perfect.

The story showed about how we can only control what is in our very personal and small world and not worry about or take on the responsibilities of that outside ourself.

We will make mistakes and wish we could rewrite them over and over and over until it’s perfect but we can’t. We will hate aspects of our lives and adore aspects of lives we don’t know the intricacies or hardships of but we can not insert ourselves. We have our own lives to live and rather than define it by a given purpose let us define the purpose as we go along. Not everything is revealed when it’s over, you may not get the answers but it’s okay to go somewhere and not know.

Some endings are happy, some are sad and some are just that, endings. They don’t have neat little bows or a “The End” on the last page but they allow us to put the past down and move on to whatever else lies ahead.

#Betty is a chaos god Simon is just a guy and it’s okay their worlds don’t match them or each other any more #change happened and the more they fought it the more it hurt them #fionna learned this is just her life and that’s fine #I think people expecting a big emotional ending forget the show was mainly about after the healing process when you are just allowed to #drift and find what to do next like Simon or a sedimentary moment like fionna #everyone more or less already moved on they just needed to accept it like Simon finally did #and fionna had to except sometimes the moment is all there is and you have to move with it and not past #betty Simon fionna made their choices and now they live with them there is no change only being heard and they all got that and the peace #they could gain from it and ya missed the point if you think someone was cheated or their fate was left ambiguous or unfair #they are going to be what they are now fionna a non magical normal woman #simon a guy out of his time but okay about it #and Betty a being past itself and the world #it’s not extravagant but it’s what it should be the world goes on and sometimes the only change is you noticing it’s still spinning #fionna and cake #adventure time
