Final Episode of Goblin
AHN NYOUNG CHINGOOS
Gosh it’s been so long! And for everyone who waited, thanks SO. VERY MUCHㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Life has been a wrestle for me, but I think you’ve all waited long enough for the final post of Things Eng Subs Don’t Tell You in Kdramas: Goblin Ep 16!!!!!!!!!! What better way to end the year huh? Let’s shimmy to it!
In our final post we’ll learn about the possible foreshadowing of (1) Burning Saturday and (2) Korean Driving: Right or Left???
Click Keep Reading if you wanna ‘get married over the weekend’ with Kim Shin!

BURNING SATURDAY
Tumblr media
덕화: 토요일은 불토라  DeokHwa: “Saturday’s my night out”
불토 ‘bool-toh’ is a popular Korean slang for 불타는 토요일 which literally translates to ‘burning Saturday’ which essentially means it’s the the weekend so party like it’s hot y’all . The English equivalent would be something like TGIF but Koreans have TGIS as well - Thank God It’s Saturday.
Now, this is my personal suspicion (just because the scriptwriters are so ingeniously intentional in everything), but I think they might have used 불토 as a means to foreshadow EunTak’s death. As much as 불토 means TGIS, it is also the name of the resting place of Buddha, hence, the afterlife, hence, the death of the Dokkaebi bride. Did anyone else think that? Am I crazy? AM I??????
KOREAN DRIVING: RIGHT OR LEFT????
Tumblr media
Kim Shin: Left turn! Left! Left! 김신: 좌회전 왼쪽 왼쪽!!
While in English there’s only one way to say left/right, in Korean, the way you say left/right is different when behind the wheel. Instead of saying the general 왼쪽 (left) / 른쪽 (right), they say 좌회전 (left) / 우회전 (right).
It comes from the Chinese characters what make up the words because 좌 (左 left) means the left turning of the vehicle while 왼쪽 simply means the left [side]. Thus, if you’re a new driver like EunTak, it’s SUPER CONFUSING!! I mean, why don’t you just say 왼쪽 , 오른쪽!? But nooooooo you gotta say 좌회전, 우회전 while trying not to hit anyone or anything on the road.
That’s why when you watch the scene, you might have thought she didn’t hear him say ‘left’ like a thousand times, but it was because he used the driving-specific directional words that EunTak got confused! Don’t yell at her Mr. Goblin+_+
EXTRA: THE COUPLE SONG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the way, the song the newlyweds sang was 운명 / ‘Fate’ by 여행스케치. Just in case you were wondering derp.
CONCLUSION
There’s 3 words that mean TGIF in Korean: 불금, 불토, 황토...but why did they use 불토? Coincidence? I think NOT!!!!!!!!!
좌회전 =  왼쪽 and 우회전 = 오른쪽. But for me, I always just say the latters #DriveMyWay #OrTheHighWay #WhatIsHighway #ILikeLocal
