Okay, this is a very odd choice of fandom since it’s niche as hell, but the idea felt incredibly promising and so I wrote it! I know it’s a very odd hour to be posting though genuinely I’m excited- simply couldn’t wait until morning…
The fandom is a K-Drama known as From Now On Showtime! The canon is dead in this divergent universe lol, and since I don’t have the log-in information to the family viki account, well, this is my own thoughts and ideas! Poor Chawoong goes through it here lol
Read below for more information. You know the drill by now sighs
Plot/Summary
It never should’ve happened this way.
Unfortunately, Cha Cha Woong finds himself the unwilling host of the spirit tormenting him and Go Seul Hae. There’s no way he would ever hurt her, but will he able to fight it off or succumb to its obsessive needs?
Prompts
No. 9: Obsession
No. 21: Spirit Possession
Extras/Teasers
Protective Seulhae
Hurt No Comfort
Tense Vibes
Unconventional Situations
oh you can hide but you can’t run

I know I need to calm the fuck down first but one word to describe episode 6: STRESS!!
📍I love seeing Hyun-woo and Hae-in having a...sort of second honeymoon in Germany but I couldn't really enjoy every scene because I'm stressing out at how fucking OBLIVIOUS the Hong family is like bitch y'all are surrounded by snakes and they're so complacent 😭😭😭 I mean it's not really their fault that there are opportunists who'd earn their trust first then slither their way to bite them in the ass, but I just find it ironic at how protective they are at their family business and wealth but they can't see through the REAL people who has every intention to bring them down.
📍Speaking of which, I have read a fan theory somewhere that Mo Seul-hee is the mom of Eun-seong and Da-hye. Could be, OR Grace could be Da-hye's mom considering how Grace acted towards her. But why are they so keen at bringing the Hong family down?
📍Maybe it's just me but I don't think Da-hye is that bad, I have a feeling that she'll eventually come to her senses and take Hyun-woo's side and expose Eun-seong and co.
📍My overthinker/delulu self thinks that Soo-cheol and Da-hye's baby is actually Hyun-woo and Hae-in's kid. I mean, it wasn't shown how they lost their baby...yet. So Hae-in either miscarried, or she gave birth to a still born child? But what if the child is actually alive and one of those evil bitches cooked up some shit to make it seem like Hyun-woo and Hae-in's baby died, and then that baby was registered as Soo-cheol and Da-hye's kid? I know it sounds insane, but we're only on episode 6 so more crazy shit could happen in the future episodes, you'll never know. But my normal self says I've watched too many Filipino dramas growing up (and yes, that shit happens a lot in Filo-dramas).
📍Speaking of that kid, another theory is...what if that kid is actually Eun-seong and Da-hye's? Soo-cheol is a dumbass, and again, those bitches could have manipulated that baby's DNA test result or something. Again, that's just me being an overthinker, also I hate my Filo-drama mindset.
📍Aunt Beom-ja being so concerned about Hae-in and her dad but I also appreciate the fact that she respected her niece's request to not tell anyone about her illness. I also hope that she'll be able to help Hyun-woo clear his name and uncover Seul-hee and gang's dirty little secret.
📍BUT Y'ALL KNOW WHO STRESSED THE SHIT OUT OF ME THIS EPISODE? BAEK FUCKING HYUN-WOO!!! I am so freaking annoyed that he didn't tell Hae-in about the divorce when he had the chance. He was probably worried at how Hae-in would react plus the latter was going through medical treatments so he probably didn't want to put too much stress on her, but Hae-in was bound to find out either way so...yeah I do get why he chose to keep the divorce to himself but he could have just told the truth and suck it up, and perhaps they could communicate better when it comes to issues like this.
📍One thing I noticed about Hyun-woo is that he's brave in so many ways but also a coward on one thing. I mean he talks with Hae-in about nice things and all, and he is his wife's confidante, but I don't think I've ever heard him talk the way Hae-in does, meaning he never had the balls to talk to his wife about the..."unpleasant" side of their marriage. Hae-in was able to talk to him about her illness, the last will and testament that her mom pressured her to write, and Hyun-woo didn't even think about bringing up the divorce papers.
Prior to episode 5, I really thought that Hae-in was the one who shut him out but it was actually the other way around. Wifey may seem cold and nonchalant but if there's one person she'd listen to, it's him. Perhaps he doesn't want to say something that would upset Hae-in but the point is...she's his wife, she's supposed to know what he thinks, how he feels about certain things, even the not-so-pleasant side of their relationship. I really hope that in the next episode or the episode after that he'll be able to communicate better.
📍Hae-in's mom is terrible af. Imagine blaming your own daughter for the death of your son. I mean she didn't deserve to lose a child, but it's unfair to put all the blame on Hae-in (like why?). It's not like she endangered herself on purpose, and she had the audacity to be upset when Hae-in did something nice to her in-laws? Like what is wrong with this woman? Why can't see realize her own mistakes?
📍I kind of teared up when Hae-in was telling Hyun-woo about the things the latter should do when she dies. She could die, and this show might give us a bittersweet ending but when that time comes I'd be really, really hurt. Also, Hae-in confessing that the only reason she wrote her will about Hyun-woo not getting anything should they divorce was so that she'll be allowed to marry him 😭 (just shows she fought hard for him and she'll do absolutely anything to be with him). God I hate her mom! And yes the epilogue was so cute, now we know that they have always been in-love with each other. But I guess...they need a time-out 🤷.
📍Hae-in called Hyun-woo "yeobo" 🥹🥹🥹

You have to feel for Seul-hee. She ends up in prison for adultery, which was a stupid law to have and she never should have been in jail for it. She gives birth in jail and her son is given up to an orphanage. She then spends the next 15-20 years playing the long game by getting close to the chairman even though I'm sure she didn't love him and she was looked down on by his children and family. She manipulates things behind-the-scenes to get the chairman more and more dependent on her while he relies less and less on his family.
And finally, the long game has paid off. Seul-hee and her son have taken over the Queen's Group and have access to most of the money and assets. The chairman is in a coma in the hospital and his family have been kicked out of their homes with no money. Seul-hee is finally at the top.
And she could lose all of it because her son is delulu and thinks that he's going to be able to marry Hae-in and have her love him. She's probably wishing she just left him in the United States instead of finding him again.

I really wish they'd done a better job writing the villains in Queen of Tears because they just don't make a lot of sense.
For example, Moh Seul-hee. She has a very long-term con going to try to take control of the Queens group. Cool. But when Hae-in was like 8 (?) she tries to murder Hae-in and her brother, or maybe just whomever tried to go out on the boat. Fine, whatever. But then she never tries again ever? She lives with them another 20 years and never tries murder again? Why not? Because Soo-cheol is under her control through Da-hye but Hae-in remains a wild card. Why not murder Hae-in after she rejected Eun-sung?
It just doesn't make sense. It'd make more sense if the boat thing had been a random accident. Or it would have made sense that she was poisoning Hae-in instead of the illness being Magic Cancer, because Hae-in has brain cells and cannot easily be controlled.
I think enough virtual ink has been spilled over how delusional Eun-sung is so I won't even go there.

Queen of tears episode 11 I love you for making me cry like a baby and then making me laughing right next.
Stupid Hong family I love you. Never change but just be a bit smart and nicer to Baek family.
Soo cheol baby you're going to land that punch.
Papa Hong and Mama Hong thank you for being nice humans albeit a bit high and mighty.
Beomja get that hot farmer girl.
Hae In confessing right after waking up broke me. Hyun Woo said Noone goes after my wife when I exist, thank you for your service king. Protect my queen.
Eun Seong fuck you. Seul Hee double fuck you.
Grandpa be useful for once please.

I actually enjoyed the final episode of Queen of Tears. Which is surprising since given how much I hated ep 15 and was lukewarm to ep 13 & 14. Ep 15 somehow broke me with how much it wanted to me accept and look past lol.
Not to say ep 16 didn't have the same need to look past things but it was somehow more acceptable. Maybe because Eun Sung was finally killed off in the first 10 minutes.
I am a bit frustrated we never really got to know the motivations of Moh Seul Hee. Just because she wanted Queen's Group doesn't seem to be enough of a reason. The woman abandoned her son at an orphanage. She killed Hae In's brother and tried to kill Hae In at the same. She then when on to play a long con game of 20+ years (also presumably never trying to kill Hae In or even Soo Cheol within that time). But my question remains to WHY.
Similarly, I am disappointed that the miscarriage was never properly addressed. Yes, Hae In remembered it and we got to see a bit more of what happened at the time but other than that nothing. I guess though with Hae In not fully remembering everything they can't really address it anyway.
Oddly, Hae In not regaining her memory in full is one thing I appreciated. Of all the things they wanted me to accept about her mysterious illness, her not getting her memory back after surgery is the most plausible. Still, I have a personal head cannon that she does regain more of her memory after time but not fully.
I do like that Hae In and Hyun Woo finally discussed what broke down their marriage (outside of the miscarriage) which was lack of communication and letting little things fester. They at least have a clear vision for where they want to go in the future. I also liked that they are taking it slow, as Hae In is still getting to know Hyun Woo.
I'm happy for them that they finally got their much wanted child. Not quite sure we needed to see Hyun Woo, years in the future visiting Hae In's grave though I do like how they always returned to Germany. Still it's one of the more normal endings for this writer out of the dramas I've watched of hers.

Dramas I watched this past month!
Overprotected Kahoko (jdrama) 8
I'm on a quest to find good jdramas because when they're bad, they're crazy bad, but when they're good, they become instant comfort. The vibes in this one are 100% there. Overprotected by her mother, a 22-year-old meets her complete opposite, and in the midst of falling in love, she decides she wants to become a real adult… all this around her messy (yet charming) relatives. It was a small cute, and heartwarming family drama. I don’t really have much to say other than that I love Kahoko, she’s the cutest.
Queen of the Ring (kdrama) 7?
FL puts on a ring that has the ability to make her crush see her as a beautiful girl. I watched this one because I loved Kim Seul Gi in Splash Splash Love and Ahn Hyo Seop was enough excuse to check it out. I kinda hated it but enjoyed it at the same time? It makes me mad to see how they judged everything by looks (especially both ML and FL) but let’s be honest, It was realistic. It was a bit hard to believe, though, because I didn’t think the FL was ugly at all. What didn’t convince me about this one was that most of the love story happens while she’s wearing the ring and so it kinda ruins it for me.
Jitenshaya-san no Takahashi-kun (jdrama) ?
Kinda good girl x bad boy trope? Except the bad boy isn't really a bad boy, he just looks like one.
I can’t really rate by number because it was too short and, to be honest, I got what I expected. Soft and simple. He fixes bikes and fixes her, they later begin to hang out and get closer. No serious drama, just two people starting a relationship.
Touch Your Heart (kdrama) 7.5
A rom-com drama with Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na’s amazing chemistry from Goblin sounds so good on paper. I feel like I should have watched this one right after I watched Goblin, but I never did.
Even though the chemistry between them was still there and strong, the show and both characters felt a bit stiff? They could have used them a lot better but were given a kind of meh storyline that bored me a little too much by episode 12. Still, they had their moments, and… it’s them 🥹 it’s impossible not to like (despite everything else).
D.P. Season 1 (kdrama) 10
I’ve been putting it off because, even though I knew it was going to be good, in drama world, I go to romance lol.
I 100% watched this because of Jung Hae In (and I was low-key curious about Koo Kyo Hwan after watching him in that episode of Attorney Woo.) Neither of them disappointed. In fact, they gave more than what I was expecting. Their dynamic and acting was impeccable. I really have nothing to say about this one because, yeah, it's a 10/10.
W: Two Worlds (kdrama) 8.5
Nothing beats a 2016 kdrama lol. I started obsessed with this one (even though I remember never adding it to my watchlist because I thought it wouldn't be my cup of tea, silly me). The storyline was extremely entertaining, although all in all, I'm not 100% sure it made sense.
I literally feel like I've lived so much watching it. I was on episode seven, and so many things had happened that I had no idea how they would continue it, and yet things KEPT HAPPENING, and plots kept getting twisted. Perhaps that's the reason why I binged the 12 eps of the drama, but it took me a while to finish the three last episodes. At some point, things started to lose sense, and I couldn't understand what was really going on, which resulted in me getting bored. All in all, it was a worth-it drama though. The romance was 11/10 (kept me on my knees) and the soundtrack 10/10 (old dramas have such bangers man)
Perfect Marriage Revenge (kdrama) 7.5/8
I usually don't like watching these types of drama because sinister family members who do shit just to hurt the leads make my blood boil. Like there's no way someone is THAT evil. I did enjoy this one, though. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but I really liked the love story, the ML's family, and the evil people getting what they deserve.

From Now On, Showtime! Live Blogging
This is actually one of the first non-queer kdramas I added back on MDL after I started getting into BL/GLs because I saw a clip on twitter (from ep 4? idk) where he's doing a magic trick with floating cards with the help of ghosts.
Finally managed to download something onto my iPad to watch on my long-ass commute.
Ep 1 (June 14)
ah he’s a shaman fr
Was that in the past or it happened now?
Ah magician Cha Cha Woong
he’s got ghosts helping him right?
This cop reminds me of the MC of Midnight
Ah ofc the arrow
How’d he even dooo that oh wait was a ghost riding the bike
First meeting
Switched helmet? Will the camera catch Cha Woong being weird w the ghosts
Pls the hearts
Lol the dash cam catching all this convo, he even mentioned ghosts
Ah so grandpa dying was indeed in the present
Oh corrupt Chief Seo is Captain Heesoo’s father
Nooo how did neighbour dad-to-be die
He was murdered?!
Cha Woong is sooooo heartless
I wonder what the dashcam actually recoded though bc i wanna know the crime scene
pls not the ghosties protecting him against her arresting Cha Woong
I was wondering if he'd reveal the ghosts or not - he could still spin it as a silly joke like "ahaha a ghost ofc" but we'll see
Ep 2 (June 14)
lol ghost Mr. Ma (?) reminiscing on his thug days when he'd be taken to the police station
wait are they supposed to be a romance? why did they linger like that on her grabbing on to him? I thought maybe she and the sunbae would become something
who is that guy? some boss at the car place - he easily seems like the one who ran the dude over, though my initial guess was actually the Chief Seo guy - the detective mans dad
...it's not 1004 but there's a car with 1604 near the bakery?
lol the SUV of the company indeed the boss. so if they've found it so quick
ah is this a 2-ep format like Tomorrow? deal with a new ghost every week?
why didn't the ghosts come to get the helmet?
ah, confession under duress - will this actually work? ig it might by drama logic
oh loll this is the card floating trick that I saw on twitter
ah, so they managed to get and restore the helmet, that feels necessary
so is the Chief Seo protecting Seul Hae by not letting her be a detective (since the son mentioned that his father still feels bad about what happened to her dad) or is he covering his tracks by ensuring she can't catch him doing something bad?
so this is softening Cha Cha Woong, I see
ah man love triangle already? Cha Woong getting jealous seeing her and the detective after telling her to never come near him again? be serious
pls T.T this worshipping spirit scene
too dark, idk what's happening but Chief Seo and Seul Hae's dad fighting some spirit? oh he was killed by the full moon murderer? did they ever catch him?
oh i see, he fell off the cliff
oh? that's the full moon murderer? in the fishing village? idk why they're zooming in on his ear - is there a bullet hole or smth? te split on his ear?
or where'd that flashlight come from and who picked it up under the water?
wtf is that voice - slight horror vibes here?
damn bruh, that was Cha Woong's dream/nightmare that the Worshipping Spirit gave him?
ah, Cha Woong fainting and Seul Hae having to hold him up, okay
Ep 3 (June 15)
watched the first half while going to get my covid booster + waiting afterwards
so he doesn't have to be a shaman, just needs to do good things to get thanks from Seul Hae
oh, that's why everyone could see the worshiping spirit, they're all ghosts
plsssss ofc the cops barge in when they're here
The first half of the episode was so boring, my goodness but at least it picked up once we got to the gambler son story
Ep 4 (June 15)
damn some past life stuff?
second lead Heesoo is annoying wtf is "just to clean? this late? just you two?"
damn, what's happening - this creepy vibe
oh second couple? eh
ohh i was like why is he being so nice to this cafe owner but it's actually the ghost's pay i guess?
a dark soul into this Soondong dude's body oof the spirit is killing people on the full moon again but how'd it go into that lamp thing all this time
ah, so Cha Woong's grandpa and the whispering spirit had sealed the full moon spirit and drowned it
oh, Cha Woong and Seul Hae's past life that we saw a glimpse of is from the worshipping spirit's time?
Do we always need a Joseon era past lives connection in these fantasy type kdramas lol I watched Tomorrow recently and that had that too
Ep 5 (June 16)
Thoughts after watching the whole thing.
the full moon murderer at it again and this time he even saw Seul Hae
ah Cha Woong saw Seul Hae’s dad that last day + saw her at the funeral while she hates his grandpa shaman - Aris drug sting ah
the fuckass love triangle stuff is irritating like why are we doing this posturing thing. also the male bestie who is so possessive of his female bestie is a boooo trope
how is he suddenly such a good fighter, the ghosts are helping or what
Ep 6 (June 16)
Thoughts after watching the whole thing.
ah this chief is soooo agh full of corruption
Plsssss side girl’s reading of herself being dangerous and greedy and telling him to be careful
the cha woong fiancé wannabe is such a bitchhhh but she's funny i can’t decide if i like her or not
ahh the argument about grandpa vs father at the police station is great
ohhh i want the chief dead “why don’t you quit the force and find a nice man to marry” um die you fucking crook cheat corrupt ladder climber
at least he gather up 1 tiny bit of courage to go after the full moon murderer even if he returned a decade later
chief is soooooo booooooooooo ew
Ep 7 (June 16/17)
oh, she died because of him? he accidentally killed her?
worshiping spirit's goal is to connect the two of them? what? what was the mistake he made?
so he was a robber thief man and then the evil spirit got him?
ah the sunbae asks her to weekend bowling and now Cha Woong has to also get a move on. he's so silly tho repeating every last word gbye
I wish the evil spirit man wasn't the only one with a limp or some sort of disability in the show
don't kill herrrrrrrrrrrr D:
plssss her arguing with the grim reaper
but now she can tell them the guy who came to beat her up, right? ask herrr
pls can't she just say what the dude was wearing and stuff bc then at least they can check the CCTV again etc
wait wtf, her husband killed her?
The fact that all the pure and 7 whatever have been all women is boring and predictable boo
Ep 8 (June 17)
the evil spirit could tell the husband was "like him?"
oh at least we get one dude with the pure 7 skies thing or whatever
plsss not the bed-sharing to see the ghosts in the video
i wish we got to see a bit more of the aftermath of catching the husband and how the sunbae and his father reacted to it all
oh the people who the evil spirit had buried were the parents of the house?
evil spirit is also from 2000 years ago goddamn but i think we knew that, right? since the ghost was release from the Cha family
Ep 9 & 10 (June 17)
ngl i really don't care about their past lives
a ring magic trick??? be srs
pls why do seul hae and cha woong keep getting into these unintentional couple face-offs
what is this couple's match where only the guys play
ah
plsss the grandma telling him that "aigoo, you have bad taste in women" because he likes yeji
i need the chief to die sooooo terribly like just painfully take that coward out you piece of shit
I can't remember when I went onto the next ep without doing the new ep thing but I guess it's around here.
they really left the evil fucking spirit at a place just like that so that some kids can easily release it fr?
plsssss Yeji has such a rancid personality, she's so funny
ah, is the grandma gonna die?
damn, she's really leading him into a secluded place by themselves? bruv. but ig him somehow recognizing her will save her
ah as expected he too recognizes her from 2000 years ago
couldn't you just have stuck the paper on him, this time of meeting and then nothing coming out of it is annoying
at least Hee Soo sunbae knows the truth about his father and the tragedy 10 years ago now
hm would Hee Soo die trying to get full man murderer?
anyway since early on, the chief and his son's relationship where the father is corrupt and the son wants to seek justice has reminded me of Beyond Evil (it was done better in BE) and I miss that show.
I've also been like ah, this past lives thing reminds me of Tomorrow and I don't care about it whatsoever. let's stay in the present pls
Ep 11 (June 17)
ah, this old-time past-life stuff
oh, he got the evil spirit into the bottle?
yang taechoon is an ordinary man now right, no evil spirit within him - just regular evilness that made the spirit choose him? - though i wonder if he'll manage to free the spirit again or what
oh Hee Soo shot him
oh she can see the ghosts now
ewwwww the way the detectives talk about Seul Hae "she always talks about her goal to be a detective but her goal's to actually be with you" "be careful or she'll put those shackles on you" agh
plsss so funny to see Yeji's rotten personality around the cop dude's mother like oh miss you're gonna regret it
agh we're just going through the past life and it could be okay what with the treats Poong Baek was facing etc but fr is Seul Hae's old life just spent cooing over Poong Baek or what. did i intend to watch a show where our main female lead is just pureness and boy crazy?
Joseon era powerful princess or whoever in high station being kind to the poor people is so eye-roll worthy ngl
ah, that's why the ring is significant
she's sooo cute and pretty and funny pls the way she got a proposal out of him
...aren't the evil spirit man and Cheon Hwa related... like if he's the illegitimate son and his brother is the king and she's the princess, then she's his niece?
bruh 40 minutes of the joseon era past and we still don't know the full story? be serious
Ep 12 (June 17)
man we're still on the past-life train
oh i see, never mind so mans gave his own brother the king of his own kingdom the poisoned concoction, not Seora's king. so they are indeed not related, i was so confused
ah, so he really was a traitor? i thought he's been framed but maybe not?
ah indeed he was framed
why do i always have to watch women be abused or treated as property in these shows like we can have fantasy of seeing ghosts and magic but not enough fantasy to not have women face sexism and abuse?
ah they're finally dying over 30 minutes in, so we'll get to go back to present time
oh damn Cha Woong already told Seul Hae about their past life, interesting I didn't think it'd be such a footnote in their interactions
plsss Cha Woong becoming soooo weirdly sweet now, my man is sooo in love with her (including her past life self lol) and keeps remembering it pls like it's a little weird actually <- ah she thinks so too that he keeps reenacting past life stuff
pls him saying he'll wait for her to kiss him
....would Hae Soo end up being evil? That'd be cowardly of the show to do
ohhh the reason the worshipping spirit is making up for his bad karma with the Cha bloodline is because he betrayed Poong Baek?
bro i needed this flashback to be 2 minutes max but we're getting everything
ahh, Hae Soo pretending (I'm assuming?) that he's just like his dad reminds me so much of Beyond Evil - but also ummm why is that voice sounding? Is Hae Soo possessed by the evil spirit or something
oh fuck they really made Hae Soo be an evil spirit victim. this would've been better if Seul Hae still liked him or was dating him but now it just feels cowardly as a way to remove him as an option
Seul Hae is for real the only female cop and detective
It does make sense that the evil spirit isn't fully gone because it'd be too easy otherwise
Ep 13 (June 17)
plsss even the grandma reading that the son's gf (Yeji) is not a good person
eww hae soo
it's dark, i can't see anything
ah they're together now i guess
i'm glad dongcheol found his gf tho
Ep 14 (June 18)
lmao all the ghosties against Cha Woong and Seul Hae relationship
oooaaaa so Yongryul's not rich and Yeji's gonna end up actually liking him
plssssss Cha Woong unable to help Seul Hae and it being the awkwardest thing on this double date good bye I'm dying
i think Seul Hae could've told Yeji about why he's not helping her lol this is so awkward I'm gonna crawl into a hole
ahh this fire where Areum saves a kid T.T
Ep 15 (June 18)
I have an assignment + homework thing to do ahhh but i just wanna watch some more of this
i need to kill every man in the detective office btw the way they blame and yell at Seul Hae for every fucking thing
ahh Yeji and Yongryul's mom's first proper meeting
why don't we get anywhere with the Hee Soo thing? it's
damn all the ghosties dealt with unfinished business and went to nirvana T.T
oh at least we still get to have Hee Soo in the mirror, so we might still have him return to being an okay person by the end
pls Yeji also has the 7 stars channel thing? how's that possible when she's so rancid, I thought it was supposed to be a pure thing
why'd he even announce himself before just capturing the spirit or whatever
Ep 16 (June 18)
1 last episode ah I should at least start working on my assignment but alas, I'm here...
um???? is this stupid ass breakup because he's gonna be possessed?????? she's in danger and you're leaving her like this? you piece of shit you fuck just tell her the truth
ah Heesoo's father now
bruv ofc Chawoong would hold the knife and ofc the dumbass detectives would get here at this time
the old ghosties T.T plssss
it was sooo small case almost non-existent threat for the past few episodes that it's like what? when it comes to the high stakes of this ep
hmmm would they have truly killed him?
agh fuckass past life again, go backkk idc
wait the worshipping spirit is coming back again or something?
kids?! wtf tiny ass ghosties
ohh their kid Maru is reincarnated worshipping spirit mans lol
Overall:
Funny and comedic with likable characters (even rancid characters like Yeji were charming to me). Nothing too deep, though it had some touching moments. Too much dramatic romance in the second half, I don't care about their royal/shaman past life tragedy and I think that made it kinda meh for me in the latter half.
Rating: 6.5/10

QoT was overall a pretty solid show imo but I do tend to go into shows with the expectation that I will be very disappointed which is a bad habit I’m trying to break but it’s the current truth.
Anyway, some thoughts I’ve had since it started bc I want them out of my head.
I was gonna put this one under the cut but no: Whoever came up with the summary on Netflix for this show needs to be stopped. I went in with COMPLETELY different expectations (I’m not someone who really watched trailers) and nearly didn’t watch the second episode.
Hae-in has been rotating around in my head like a rotisserie chicken since I started the show. She is now going around and around next to Keyleth of the Air Ashari (I made it to the end of this list and was gonna put this there but I think it’s better here lol)
There was SO much potential for some great commentary on class and while I knew from the beginning that they weren’t gonna do anything meaningful with it it’s still a bit of a disappointment
While I’m definitely super curious about what exactly Hae-in and Eun-sung’s relationship is/was I think it’s absolutely fantastic writing that we aren’t given anything else. It really shows that as a person he is so unimportant to her and her life story. Like he’s important in the sense of the role he played but he doesn’t mean anything to her.
Seul-hee had the potential to be grown into a good character but they didn’t really let that happen so she sorta stayed as the classic…like to me her character is more Mini Bad Guy #1 and not BBEG? She didn’t have to be and the story they wrote for her definitely had the room for a grander antagonist but she just sorta plateaued in the first like third idk
I think they could have been a tad more consistent with Eun-snug’s characterization bc he doesn’t start to really “unravel” until the second to last episode and although it’s in character it came on sorta sudden? Like honestly even if they had just moved Hae-in’s line about him pushing her into a ditch just so he could help her out or something like that I think at least for me it would have flowed a bit better. There was just such a jump from him threatening his mother for trying to kill Hae-in to him trying to kill her
I’m glad Soo-cheol was able to grow up and be the man and father he wanted to be. I was definitely a little worried in the beginning that he would stay the silly idiot baby brother
The whole “oldest sibling dying” thing was sorta idk lack luster. I know that it was a good way to have Hae-in and Hyun-woo be connected from a young age and be a reason that Seon-hwa resents her for so long but I dunno I guess I would have given it all a different resolution which would be that Hae-in and her mother reconcile but not completely. Like she treated her daughter terribly for 20+ years. I get that Hae-in is dying and that plays a role but I think I would have done things a bit differently
I never skipped an opening credits. That shit is magical. God tier editing. I think about it all the time. And the fact that the title card at the end is in color oh my god.
I loved that in the last handful of episodes the show played into how similar Kim Soo-hyun and Park Sung-hoon can look. Idr if it starts when Hae-in sees Hyun-woo instead of Eun-sung or if there’s some of it before that but if there was then they ramped it up at that point which is such good design/writing
My absolute biggest problem with the show—as in every other thing is just sorta nitpicking—is that Hae-in never once saved Hyun-woo. He was always the one giving and healing and comforting. And I know it’s part of his character and their dynamic that he makes all these sacrifices because he loves her but I really really think it would have been good for Hae-in’s character arc if over the course of the show, even just in the back half, she had even one moment where she took on that role for real. Between their familial/childhood class differences and the way her family treats him for so much of the show, the fact that he is constantly in service to her and all she does is verbally defend him two or three times just sorta rubs me the wrong way
The way it ended is so just !!!! On one hand it’s pretty much how I wanted it to end but on the other I feel like there was so little closure about their relationship! Idk maybe I was just expecting to have a second wedding montage after everything or even a photo of it next to their first one. They didn’t have to go that far into the future tho! That was so sick of them!! Sending them my therapy bill as we speak. I do sorta wish Hyun-woo had been the one to go first bc I think it would have been a good flip of their conversation in Germany and also for reasons related to the above bullet point that I’m having trouble wording atm
Secretary Na the love of my life💗💗💗
The epilogues were so cute😭 it’s fun when shows have that sorta thing but in the ones that I’ve watched they’re usually just sorta a short continuation of the episode or something that just feels sorta isolated from the rest of the show. But making them flashbacks focused on their relationship was just ahhhhhh I loved it. I was a little meh about the second to last one but 🤷‍♀️. I was also thinking that depending on how the finale ended that epilogue would be a flashforward instead to them with a kid or something
The narrations that happened were a little weird just bc they felt so untethered sorta? Like they didn’t happen in most of the episodes and they sounded like they were talking to someone else but I don’t think they were? And imo the audience didn’t really need them? I think if it had just been the one in the finale it would have been fine but the one Hae-in gives a few episodes before makes both a little out of place to me

This is a joke but I feel like I’ll have to carry this particular fandom’s back. Do any of you still exist?
We’ve got a grand total of three fics, two of which are mine, and the other is an author who I’ve not seen trace of in a while. I’m writing the fourth and will continue but uh, did anyone ever watch a K-Drama called From Now On, Showtime?
Like, did we just never get a fandom? Please. I’m on my hands and knees. Look at my state right now lmao. I’m fixating again on K-Dramas and seemingly this series has all but two people in its fandom.
I will still yap about it but I’m curious.

So we are officially half-way through this whole series, this isn't as intense as the previous episodes and I just generally enjoy seeing the Hong family having a taste of a simpler life.
📍Though I wanna slap Hae-in's mom so hard for still being such a bitch at the family who took them in when they have nowhere else to go, and the way that she resents Hae-in for having a REAL mother and daughter bond with Hyun-woo's mom instead of her? The audacity! Like she constantly treats Hae-in like crap, she didn't care when Hae-in fainted and worried more about her son being uncomfortable in their current situation, it's kinda confusing to me that she wonders why Hae-in never treated her the way she treats her MIL. But then again, she's a narcissist and a gaslighter, what am I expecting? The Baek family are much better people than me, because if I were them and someone disrespects MY family in my OWN home, I would have kicked her out this instant and let her sleep with the cows. Shout-out to Aunt Beom-ja for calling her out for the nth time.
Edit: I just remembered this now but I'm disappointed in Hae-in's dad. He cared so much about his daughter when they found out about the divorce, but couldn't even defend her when his wife was bad-mouthing her. I'm not expecting anything from mama's boy Soo-cheol, and I get that the irony of his character is him being the head of the family only by name but in reality, he doesn't have a spine, but he could have at least tried for Hae-in. Then again, the only people who defended Hae-in were Hyun-woo and Aunt Beom-ja. 🤷
📍Hae-in is basically the only person who can put Soo-cheol in his place, but she also has a soft spot for him. The way she almost patted her brother's back to comfort her and then stopped herself because she probably found it cheesy (I mean, they're asian siblings iykyk), but stays beside him without saying anything and just letting him cry was actually heartwarming.
📍Hae-in realizing that the mp3 player in Hyun-woo was actually hers and they've already met when they were teenagers 😭 how I wish Hae-in just told him straight that it was hers so poor Hyun-woo didn't have to make some random excuses so she wouldn't feel jealous or upset (he knows a jealous Hae-in is terrifying). Speaking of which, the text message scene was killing me, the way they messaged each other (even though they didn't actually send it) was so husband and wife coded y'all can't convince me that they're divorced. I wish they'd truly reconcile already and become lovey-dovey once more!
📍While it's pretty clear that they're still very much in-love with each other, part of me feels like Hae-in is pushing Hyun-woo away so she could free him from all of these burdens and when the inevitable happens, Hyun-woo could move on. While it's true that she's still hurting with everything that happened between them, I also sense some guilt in her, I mean she's not stupid, she knows what kind of crap he'd been through while living with her family. Meanwhile, Hyun-woo willingly stayed by her side, accompanying her in medical check-ups, helping her entire family to regain what had been stolen from them, protecting Hae-in without ever asking for anything in return (not even asking her to take him back) is just...ugh! It pains me, but their current situation will surely bring them closer to each other and I would love them to have that moment where they'd just talk about them.
📍I'm not surprised that Soo-cheol is not Geon-u's father, but aren't y'all curious to know who is? And I do have the feeling that Da-hye loves Soo-cheol for real, but she hasn't realized it yet. Still faithfully waiting for that day when she'll finally help the Hong family and get rid of that witch and her walking red flag of a son. Also, I feel like Grace would also testify once these scumbags go into trial, and I hope that happens soon.
📍Speaking of the devil's child, now that the show is slowly revealing the back story of Seul-hee and Eun-seong, basically they're saying that the latter is only acting under his mom's orders who by the way he resents so much but still works with her anyway? I thought he was cunning, turns out he's actually a stupid cunt. I mean, imagine going through all of this bullshit only for us to find out that his ultimate goal wasn't to take the entire Hong family's wealth like her greedy birth giver but to take Hae-in for himself as if she's some kind of a prize or trophy that he could get after ruining her and her entire family? If that's so, then he is really an idiot. If he thinks that Hae-in would desperately crawl to him because they're poor now then he can continue to dream. Hae-in would die without Hyun-woo but would rather die than be with Eun-seong. I do have the feeling that this bitch will use grandpa Hong to black mail/negotiate with the family and god forbid bring them back to the mansion (again, wtf), perhaps the only person who would be dumb enough to take the bait is probably Mama Hong because she's well...dumb too. And no, I don't care if he cares about Hae-in being sick, he's disgusting.
📍The thing that sets him and Hyun-woo apart is how they treat Hae-in, Eun-seong sees her as some kind of an object that he could snatch even if she's already married to someone else, he doesn't take no for an answer, has crossed her boundaries multiple times and only cares about getting her. While Hyun-woo treats Hae-in like an actual human being, yes he made mistakes and hurt Hae-in in the past but he sucked it all up and is constantly doing right by her. He respects her boundaries, never makes her feel uncomfortable, and cares about her well-being. Hyun-woo would be willing to let Hae-in go if it would make her happy, while Eun-seong would gladly make her miserable if it meant being with her. These two characters my friends, are love and selfishness defined.
📍Papa Baek and Papa Hong becoming drinking buddies will never not be cute.

Episode 14 has been watched. And I can safely say that we are getting the happy ending.
Next episode eun seong bitchass gets caught in the trap hyun woo laid out for him. And Hyun Woo gets out because he got a smart lawyer friend. Hae In is confused but that's okay. Hong family will save baekhong this time.
Soocheol is fine everyone. He's faking it. Remember he learnt the first lesson of boxing is faking it. So this Hong will be fine too.
For the finale episode Seul Hee tries to avenge her son but is struck by Grace's car.
And the show ends with Beomja's fourth wedding in yongduri.
Epilogue. Baekhong go on trips and baby 1031 is incoming soon.

Or, if they were going to have Hae-in lose her memories, the last two episodes should have solely focused on Hae-in figuring out her relationship with Hyun-woo. The Eun-seong/Seul-hee storyline should have finished in episode 14.
because i can't let things go i'm thinking about the qot finale and it's still frustrating to me. baekhong spent 14 episodes falling apart and getting back together and lost all that progress to her surgery and subsequent amnesia...what was the point of all that relationship development if they were just going to have a blank slate to start over? was the relationship development just for hyunwoo's benefit, since he is the one that kept his memories intact? (and i understand why it is relevant for his character since, at the beginning of the drama, he hated his life and hated being married to haein and changed on those points.) but if haein was going to get this life-saving surgery, survive, and forget everything, why not have this happen in an earlier episode so she and hyunwoo get a chance to rebuild and we get to see them deal with the mistakes of the past as they work towards their chance at rekindling their love? idk
