I think tumblr should have a button that when pressed just publishes all of your drafts at once, and I want it to be stupidly placed and easy to misclick so every now and then the dash is just plagued by glubshitto's 300 incoherent half written out thoughts

i always see so so many "this is so cool, credit to the original artist idk who" and like hello You downloaded it from somewhere and it's an era where you can reverse image search in less than a minute (if not copy & paste link even quicker).
if you dont know how then you can also learn as fast.
if the results arent precise then first of all also why do you think the point of "credit" is only saying it's not yours?
is it not obvious that most artists post not only to share but to be recognized for their own hardworked skill & creativity?
but nooo youre the one who'll be or wanna be hearing all the "ahh yes this is so good"s for far far less of a point (without even giving others the option to check out the artist's other potentially similar works that both of you may enjoy)? is that the only way you can find community? just say "art not mine, idrc abt the source" atp at least if you won't (ideally) stop entirely. honesty & self awareness is great with the bar this extremely low. consumers these days

I'm sure it would've gone over better with the people who just want Trans and NB people to not exist, since they could just say "Well, Taash defined their gender as Glubshitto, which is a Rivaini term for people who have two wolves inside of them, one is a boy, the other is a girl. That's not nonbinary you silly goose, that's just workdbuilding that I can forget about"
Having the term used directly allows for the conversation to happen honestly. The same conversation happened when we had Maevaris show up as a trans woman in the comic books.
Nonbinary people deserve to exist as people, not allegories.
I think a lot of people dislike Taash discussing gender and being non-binary so explicitly because it forces them to acknowledge those issues rather than remain comfortable ignoring them. Transgender identities in Veilguard are not an innuendo, an off-handed remark, but they're mentioned and discussed in a way that prevents working around them and disregarding them. All the talk of people mentioning how DA games should be "medieval fantasy" and not use "modern language" is just a facade for wanting to be able to ignore what makes people uncomfortable.

So I've seen a lot of these types of posts come across my dash lately and I just realised something. I think by overfocussing on like/reblog ratios and twitter imports we are entirely missing the main problem; tumblr culture. If anyone can be bothered reading this monster its probably going to take a while to get to the main point so please reserve judgement until the end :
First Point: tumblrs design encourages higher like ratios. Particularly when it comes to art. Things like reblog queues, low engagement depression scrolling, and passing acknoledgement of talent for things not personally enjoyed (eg I can appreciate your nipple drawing skills on a Blorbo/Glubshitto makeout picture without actually caring about "Blorshitto" or whatever) all bump up likes. Second Point: tumblr is not a place of work. The anonymity of tumblr encourages people to come here to get away from work/life pressures. Even celebrities on here are only accepted if they successfully give off "I am here to procrastinate my real job" vibes. I don't think this is a bad thing but its important to keep in mind because: 鈥raming reblogs as promotion starts to feel too much like a job. Reblogging is for enjoyment; To share a hobby or show admiration of a beautiful thing. When you start framing it as some sort of responsibility it starts riding too close to the things we are here to avoid. 鈥nfortunately reblogging things has begun to feel empty. The switch to tagging commentary has definately cleaned up our dashes, but now I think everything feels less like a conversation? Logically when I reblog art and tag a compliment, I know there's an artist on the other end who appreciates it. But emotionally? It feels like shouting into the void. There's no acknowledgement or shared joy; it feels like I'm paying a complete stranger through the currency of emotional support. Compare to AO3 comments; more often than not they lead to a nice chat with the writer or a fellow reader. Its creation as a form of sharing and community rather than just consumption. Final Point: The lasting hangover of tumblr cringe culture. So everyone makes fun of 2012 tumblr but I think what we have all forgotten about that era is the reason there was so much cringe was everyone was encouraged to reblog recklessly. Spam the post with dumb reaction gifs! Write an embarassingly mushy or horny commentary on someones art! Straight up have a full conversation through reblogs! Its all good! Yes there were absolutely things about that time I don't miss, but somewhere along the way of getting rid of the bad, we also lost some of that sense of freedom and community. To make matters worse, between 2012 and the porn ban there was this growing over focus on performative social justice/whether or not things were deemed "problematic" or "pure". While thankfully the worst has faded, it hasn't gone away completely. So now to this day I hesitate to start wild reblogging sprees over things of personal taste (like art preferences) because a part of me still fears I will be "problematic" (its dumb and irrational I know). Admittedly this could just be a me issue, but then again I haven't exactly seen anyone else I follow lately going wild for anything remotely risky, so something is going on. In Conclusion: We are at the point where.... 鈥ecause extra commentary is now seen as cluttering up the dash, there's no sense of an connection between artists or other fans.... which is not good for a site that prioritizes play over work. 鈥ecause of an overzealous past, being seen as "too enthusiastic" starts to feel uncomfortable... which leads to less reblogs. 鈥ecause artists aren't getting many reblogs they get frustrated at likes... but when site design lends itself to more likes, this is not going to be a winning battle. So honestly? I think when we tell people that likes are not good, its not going to make them reblog more. I think it will just make them feel bad and stop engaging with art at all. What we should be doing is telling people to reblog recklessly! Its ok to add comments or silly gifs! Its ok to love things unashamedly! Fucking hell tumblr was made for chaos so why are we dishing out more rules?! Give people permission to just have fun! TLDR: Tumblr cringe culture is killing reblogs. Let people enjoy themselves more and artists might get more engagement.
people moving to tumblr from twitter please fucking reblog art likes literally dont do anything except make the artist upset bc they have 2 reblogs and 55 likes
