A New Partnership Begins!

Global Sunrise is happy to announce a new partnership with TASC Madagascar!

TASC Madagascar aims to reduce poverty and ill health in the Vohipeno region of Madagascar, through focusing on the root causes of poverty and integrating education, sanitation, and general self-sufficiency. To see their aims in more detail, please visit their website.

Global Sunrise are working to provide the Children's home, the Foyer des handicapés, the dormitories, and the offices, enabling the use of computers, with solar power, in Tanjomoha, Madagascar. This will substantially improve the quality of care given at the clinics and improve the standard of living for the children, patients and staff. We are very excited to get this project underway and will keep you updated on our progress.

We are very excited about furthering the cause of this charity, and investing in the future of those in the Vohipeno region.

Our Cake Sale outside the University library on Thursday 20th March was definitely a success! In fact, we did so well, we sold out of cake in the penultimate hour- a big thank you to all who made cake, manned the stall, spread awareness of our charity and bought cake! We managed to raise £105.54, so definitely worth celebrating.

Mark Peterson from Warwick Energy to present: 'UK Energy Policy – How did it go so wrong?'

The next educational event for Global Sunrise will be a talk from Mark Peterson, from Warwick Energy, on UK Energy Policy. Since co-founding Warwick Energy in 2000, Mark is responsible for the company's offshore wind projects, which has become Britain's leading independent offshore wind developer.  

The talk will be taking place on Tuesday 25th February at 4pm  in E102 of the Biosciences building, and will encompass the past, present and future of UK Energy Policy, as observed by an expert in the industry.

It looks to be an insightful and topical talk, and we hope to see you there!

Pub Quiz with a Twist!

Following the success of our educational Fracking Debate, we are now gearing up for our next fundraising event: Pub Quiz with a Twist! 

At 7pm on the 18th February we are hosting a fun, interactive quiz at The Lounge, Selly Oak. This is no ordinary quiz, testing more than your brain power! 

Round 1: Whose is that?!  Undress celebrities with only your eyes!  Round 2: Feel me up  Tonight you'll find out if you are good with your hands. Round 3: Mr and Mrs.  Think you know everything about your friends... Think again! Round 4: Brainbox Put your knowledge to the test!  Round 5: What's that noise  Hear something? Write it down!  Round 6: Sports round  Pen and paper? That's old news, tonight you'll be  getting physical!  Teams will be in groups of 4-6, with just £2 entry each- all proceeds going to Global Sunrise!

Of course, there will be prizes for those of you who are brainy enough-  1st Prize - Fab tickets for the entire team (*maximum team size of 6) 2nd Prize - £15 voucher for the Plough in Harbourne 3rd Prize - Box of chocolates!  We hope to see you there with your friends!

Clothes Swap and Shop

Now the New Year has begun it’s time to reflect on our successes and begin to plan for the exciting events ahead.

After a very productive meeting this week, we have many great events lined up for the next few months. The first of which is the Clothes Swap and Shop event on 24th January. Come along to Room 311 of the Geography Building (UoB Campus) between 12 and 3pm- bring along any unwanted clothes and we will swap them for a number of tokens, which you can use to get some great bargains and refresh your wardrobe.  Any unwanted or damaged clothes donated will be sold for weight after the Swap and Shop, with all proceeds going to Global Sunrise.
