Much gratitude to the gifted caritia (rigger), bishopblaczk(model) & fred_rx (photographer) for joining the Sacredly Bound Tarot deck as the Empress Card. In traditional Tarot this card is associated with Venus, feminine power, a mistress figure whose passion moves through all of nature. Often the symbol for Venus is depicted on a shield. This specific design draws inspiration from sacred geometry & the planetary movements of the planet Venus herself as metaphor for rope communication. 

Rope communication is the essential core to Shibari, it is ability of a rigger to transport the person being tied through sensory and emotional experiences just with the touch of the rope. 

Done well rope communication transcended gender, desire, power dynamics and even ego to create intentional depth of experience for the person being tied. 

It is this dance of rope around the body that can on rare occasion create celestial experiences. 

This design is not about monarchy but rather a sacred dance with rope around one body from another. In nature Venus’ orbit takes 1 year and has been known as “Venus’ Dance” or the “Flower of Venus”. 

The background of this is a depiction of this motion drawn by Sir Isaac Newton himself. 

“The Venus/Earth orbital 3/2 ratio replicates the perfect symmetry we know as the Golden Mean. The 2/3 ratio of a Venus day to an Earth year replicates the harmonic interval known as the perfect musical fifth (3.2), which is considered as the most universally harmonic consonant."

The Lovers card was inspired by the beautiful partnership between missannabones & fred.r.hatt, both forces of nature, intelligence and creativity, as well as joint owners of anatomiestudiolondon & shibaristoreuk . Shibari artists, teachers, performers and dedicated founding directors of anatomiestudiolondon, words can not describe how incredibly wonderful, gifted and generous these two beings are. Both their love for shibari and love for each other seems to have some global ripple effect. The card draws on the symbolism of ensō 円相 , "circle". In Zen, ensō symbolizes infinity, enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and mu (the void). This design also plays with imagery of the stars called the Pleiades (or Subaru). I can not begin to thank you both enough for being, loving, sharing, thinking and for holding space in all the ways which you both do. Much gratitude to the lovely rope artists zylahpan & her partner for joining the Sacredly Bound Tarot deck as the Death card ☠⚰☠ So much deep gratitude for all the amazing encouragement, support & beautiful conversations happening in response to this deck. This is the 2nd card spontaneously created by following back people supporting sacredlybound, if you've got time for my creativity I've got time for yours. The imagery of this card is in response to the global pandemic of institutional death... the type of death which is faceless, nameless creeping down white corridors & seeping through policies or decisions made behind closed doors... the Institutional death that is so often without accountability for sweeping away people in the most vulnerable moments of need. All thou this is the aesthetic, the actual meaning of the death card is often misinterpreted ... the death card is actual about transformation, change. In life, beyond death itself, nothing is permanent, everything is subject to change, through this card I hope to remind folks to harness the power of transformation in the face of looming oppression or despair The white rose in traditional tarot deck often symbolises beauty, purification & immortality, it's often a reminder that even with death some believe that the spirit is immortal, in this card it's no different, death doesn't step beyond the rose. So folks this is happening, mainly for the love of creating, the love of tarot & for the love of Shibari. Introducing Sacredly Bound a Shibari inspired Tarot deck🔮! The deck will draw on the coincidental beauty of existing shibari scenes that mirrors tarot mythology. This deck was original inspired by rope covens, specifically a magically tender rope scene between sophia.shibari & their sister wife miss_true_blue. The second card, 'the world' comes from missannabones & sophia.shibari"playing with chaos" at the wonderful anatomiestudiolondon There are currently only 2 images because I'm just beginning on this creative journey. Rope folks, do look out for messages from me seeking consent to use certain images to include in the deck. I'll be doing all the graphic design of the cards myself in my spare time, but reaching out to rope clans for creative collaborations around booklet content and card interpretations. Once all the designs are complete, I'll launch a 30 day Kickstarter campaign (all or nothing), to bring these cards to print. Since this is a labor of love without artist fees, the campaign is not going to have a big ask, just enough to cover printing costs in relation to the demand.
