it can also be ab roleplaying itself, like the flaws of the community or anything like that . ships allowed too cuz why not ? (ex. 'i ship swimminginyokohamasrivers x dazaisrealbf') (yes i know theyre like. actually together ists just an example.

Dazai Osamu, the ordinary man

I'm growing tired of people saying Dazai is an evil manipulator abuser mafia loner-

Need I carry on?

Okay. I agree. He may be (or have been) a manipulator, an abuser, a mafia executive that killed- but evil?

Hear me out.

In a world where people are no longer judged based on their moral values such as personalities and thoughts, but rather on economic value or ability to achieve, isolation became a problem.

Isolation- separating yourself from others and yourself. Because in a world where what makes a person different from another becomes ignored, we tend to try to fit in, keep to our roles, and not question. Isolating from what we hold dear because there is no value in it.

Here's where the Port Mafia comes into place.

I'm giving you a situation. If you live in a society where what you love no longer valued, and everything that matters simply doesn't anymore, what would you do? What would you do in a place where social roles that give you a sense of belonging are scarce?

You would want a sense of belonging, because never having to experience what being a part of something is, you want to find out.

I suppose we can say the same about Dazai. Always wanting to find a point in living, knowing he'll never find it, but still living on because, it's stupid. That's his destructive personality. Living on because he doesn't see the point in it. (am I making sense rn?) (no) (but bear with me)

The Port Mafia would have been a fertile place for Dazai to 'figure out' what the point of living is. And it's also quite addicting as well. It would feel awesome to be a part of something you know you never thought of as morally correct, just being a part of it because it all felt like a joke. And the joke snowballs and gets out of hand. Dazai no longer cared about 'finding a will to live' Maybe he does, but something else grew inside of him.

He felt something. He felt that the Port Mafia was carving into his mind. He's a part of the cruel, evil mafia he will never escape. Not even if he became good. He accepts it. So he becomes a part of it. He decides to work for the Port Mafia.

And as he works for the Port Mafia, he loses who he was again, ironic, considering the reason he joined the Port Mafia was to find a will to live, or at least, find himself. He lost who he was in order to become a clockwork of an evil organisation.

Even if it meant being a tool of murder.

And all while being an ordinary man. An ordinary man living in a society where people are judged on their ability to achieve.

And the ordinariness is exactly what makes him terrifying. Because he could also be a cheery person with no worries, having a wonderful life.
