maggie defense <3 (I'M NOT SORRY)
i hope after this finale that certain people can finally let go of being absolutely OBSESSED with maggie forgiving negan. ive always found that to be so incredibly disrespectful. every single point you can make to claim she's in the wrong can easily be rebutted by the fact that because of negan, glenn would never see his son. and by the fact that when she was sickly pregnant to the point of being carried on a cot, she was forced onto her knees by a man who would bash her baby's father's face in front of her and make fun of him while he did it. and by the fact that he didn't understand how she felt until he was in a "similar situation". it still irks me that he had the nerve to call his case (where he decided to sacrifice himself BY CHOICE) in any way "the same". he has known his wife for just a few months. and it took him being brought to his own knees to really understand what she felt? not to mention he'd lost his first wife before. there's no way he didn't know. he didn't feel even a third of what he put these people through. it should be more than enough for the rest of the group to like him, so why is almost everyone in the fandom so irritated by her choosing not to let it go? i think negan was a big baby for continuing to bother her with puppy dog eyes in the first place, but i'm especially annoyed with the fans who feel this way, because how could you? after knowing glenn all those years, i don't care how much time passed. we could've given the governor time to learn from his mistakes too, but that would still never erase what he did to hershel. " well, if it wasn't glenn, it would've been somebody else!!" and what makes you think that makes any sort of a difference? it also could've been carl. or daryl. do you think either of those deaths would have gone over smoothly or been forgiven? i would still feel this way. the people who were affected by it the most deserve to take as much time as they deem necessary to mourn. last time i checked this was called human decency, not rocket science. at the same time i feel this way, i also pity him. because he will never meet glenn and fully understand what he took from everyone. and he'll never know what he's missing by not knowing glenn. i love the person negan has become, but there's a fine line between us, the viewers, and a character like maggie who was directly impacted by his decision to do what he did. there was no way she was ever going to fully forgive him. it was sick of anyone to expect her to. and i ask you this... if the roles were flipped and it was maggie who was killed by negan, would ANYONE be annoyed by glenn's blame? would anyone be pressuring him to forgive? i really, HONESTLY don't think so. negan went through his own redemption arc, sure, but it had nothing to do with maggie and hershel. and on top of that, she wasn't even there to see it. why should his few good actions justify what he did? he's always gonna be that person to her, and that's to be expected. and btw, this is coming from me, a person who adores negan and jdm. please kindly separate your personal experiences from the way a show runs. i guarantee you'd be far worse than maggie if this had happened to you.

@lonegun HIT THE ♥ FOR A STARTER
Tumblr media
"Shit, Glenn?"
Maybe it shouldn't be so unexpected - hell, Daryl had to admit he felt a little guilty that he was so surprised - but the truth was that he'd expected himself to be alone. Even after all these years, when things got this bad, he only really expected one person by his side, and even it was just a best-case scenario. Merle had always been fickle, even if Daryl knew that he cared, that he tried to be by his side, to have his back. Merle just had his Merle things going on, just as Daryl had his own. Fair enough, he always told himself.
It'd been years, though. Years that this group, his new family, always had his back, so maybe it was shitty of him to think he was on his own. Maybe. Then again, Rick had other problems at hand, other people to look out for, and Glenn...
The options as to what'd happened to him were something Daryl simultaneously tried not think about, and thought about far too often.
"You okay, man? What happened?"

Hey sweetheart 🤭💗
I would love to request an angsty fic if you're okay with it 👉🏼👈🏼💗
I was thinking about 7x01 and the whole Negan opening thingy...maybe Negan picks reader in the line up and Rick throws himself between him and you so save you and Negan starts mocking Rick for the sacrifice he was willing to give (I hope it's logical????🥴) I love Rick so much I wouldn't say no to a happy end but I know you'll do something great either way 🤭💗
Love you so much sweetie 💗💗💗
hey baby, I hope you like what I did! I love you so much!
summary - rick makes the mistake of jumping in front of you as negan goes to swing, causing a third to die.
warning - death, swearing, angst.
18+ only please, the gif I use isn't mine, divider by @newlips

“Moe” Everyone’s eyes fall onto the person at the end of Negan’s bat. There, you kneel, staring at the bat without emotion, not wanting to give the man satisfaction. “Well, well. Shit, sweetheart. I kinda feel bad. Such a waste of a pretty face.” Negan licks his lips as he pulls back, readying his bat for a wild swing.
“NO” A shout can be heard, and a body is thrown before you. Rick kneels in front of you, hands reaching behind him as he grips your hands into his as he stares at Negan and his bat. “You aren’t taking her like you took Glenn.” His blue eyes sharpen into a glare, his heart nearly beating out of his chest at the thought of losing you.
“Well, shit! Look at this bitch!” Negan chuckles, twirling around as he gestures to Rick before he stops and leans down, getting into Rick’s face. “You really going to be stupid and sacrifice yourself for some cunt?” He tilts his head, looking at you from behind Rick before his gaze returns to Rick. “I mean, I bet she’s super tight and good in bed. But really? Doing some stupid shit like this?” Negan stands, leaning back slightly as he lets out a laugh, raising his voice. “Hear that, fellas! This dumbass jumped in front of her because of her snatch!” His men laugh, and Rick’s jaw clenches, squeezing your hand.
“Don’t talk about her like that.” Rick glares at this moment, not caring about anything else because he wants to keep you safe. “You’re not going to kill her. She’s not part of your stupid game.”
Negan stops laughing, his mouth setting into a smirk as he stares down at Rick. “Look who’s grown some balls! Big balls, Rick over here, that’s who!” He steps back and begins to practice his swings with Lucille, staring down at Rick. “Do you really think you have the power to tell me what to do here, Rick? Where was the sacrifice when I was turning Glenn over there into a pancake?” Negan begins to pace, “Is it because Asian boy wasn’t giving you some loving? Didn’t have the tight cunt for you to bury into?” Everyone gasps and Maggie lets out choked sobs. Negan rolls his eyes and groans. “Oh, shut the fuck up!”
Negan strokes his chin as he continues to stare at Rick. “Fine, I’ll let this shit go. But one more fuck up, and I’ll shut that shit down.” Rick lets out a breath, feeling you squeeze his hands before he tenses again. “Now, let’s start over. Eeny.” He begins pointing his bat again. “Meeny.” Everyone’s hearts and stomachs are in their throats as they wonder who will die next. “Miny,” You gulp as you watch him slowly approach the last person. “Moe!”
Screams can be heard as he slams Lucille into Sasha’s head, and Negan chuckles as he continues to smash it repeatedly before looking at Rick. “See what ya did, Rick. Three dead! All because of you!”

in spite of what critics are saying about the last few episodes of the the walking dead’s 11th and final season, there were a few things that just hit different especially with the finale:
SPOILERS FOR TWD “REST IN PEACE” 11.24!!
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
daryl barricading judith in the hospital the same way shane did to rick in 01x01 – like father, like daughter and even brother because he also carried her the same way rick carried carl when he got shot
actually, daryl carrying judith into the hospital to save her life vs how he carried beth out after she was killed. the FEAR he must’ve felt given the last time he carried someone in/out from the hospital.
any scene between them + carol (keeping this short bc i can write a whole novel about their scenes)
Tumblr media
luke dying & being comforted by magna, yumiko, connie & kelly (his og group) during his final moments; even though he wasn’t seen for most of the season, dan folger’s acting + that of nadia hilker, eleanor matsuura, lauren ridloff & angel theory was TOP-TIER
people always die in twd, but up until luke, the newish members of the group didn’t really suffer a sudden and harsh loss like the group from earlier seasons until now
that’s why his death + the group’s raw grief hit different when you consider how this is the first time we’ve seen them have to mourn one of their own so suddenly and with walkers literally banging on their doors
Tumblr media
the team up of eugene porter & gabriel stokes = the two characters who, at one point of the story, were the weakest and most cowardly members of the group. i mean, the parallels of how they started vs. how they ended are insane:
eugene, who lied to abraham and rosita about knowing how to cure the infection almost making himself a martyr by telling the truth about the common wealth’s corruption, and
gabriel, who locked his congregation outside his church to die being the first to open the gates for everyone even when pamela’s people had their guns pointed at him
if twd did anything right, it was the development of these two characters
Tumblr media
even if i didn’t know christian serratos chose rosita’s ending, i still would’ve thought she had a fitting end as one of the original (and last) big hitters for rick’s group on the road
it wasn’t painful and gory like abraham or glenn, shocking like sasha’s or even bittersweet like carl’s in the midst of war– rosita dies a dignified and otherwise peaceful death after all the bloodshed is said & done
she sees her people are safe, knows her daughter’s in good hands and finally lays to rest after fighting on the frontlines for so long
even with her gone, her final interaction with eugene at her side really cements that he is her and abraham’s legacy because “i’m glad it was you at the end”
(someone make baby rosie looking up to older coco because her mom was her namesake + uncle eugene canon right now)
Tumblr media
this post-war celebration dinner mirroring the what-if dream dinner from 7x01 about what could’ve been (credit to this article for the pic: here) also makes rosita’s death so poignant to me because negan had likened the dream as something that wouldn’t ever happen
it’s not the same exact group and it wasn’t exactly her dream, but the sentiment remains the same
in the end, peace was possible for the alexandrians after all & i’m so glad rosita got to see this before she went & re-joined the others who are no longer at the table
Tumblr media
negan & maggie now established as two sides of the same coin: motives, beliefs and and now shared trauma of being unable to stop their partner from being killed (or almost killed, in negan’s case) as they’re about to start a family
maggie was never going to forgive him for what he did, but that in itself gives so much more substance to their spin-off and i can’t wait to see it happen
Tumblr media
rick “we are the walking dead” grimes + michonne “it’s true. forever” grimes – welcome back.

Wait does The Walking Dead make Caryl canon? I stopped watching when they killed Glenn because it felt like the show was going downhill so fast and that was the last straw. Plus they were going out of their way to make Caryl not be a thing. Carol went away and didn't even tell Daryl and Daryl didn't even really care that she was gone.
coincidentally, i also stopped watching when they killed glenn for pretty much the same reasons, but i will say that upon rewatch, i liked everything leading up to it a lot better. it definitely seems like this is a show that needs to be binged. it doesn't really lend itself to weekly viewing because every time they build up momentum, an episode ends and the next one is about something different. it's fine when you're binging but watching it week to week was not fun.
and i'll be honest, the show really takes a nosedive after they kill abraham and glenn. (warning: spoilers ahead) glenn's death really changes the tone of the show in a way nothing before it did. everything feels kind of hopeless and pointless after it, even though they eventually find some stability and peace. the episodes immediately following 7x01 are just... insufferable. it's the only way to describe them. negan is insufferable. i can't believe he's a character they chose to have stick around and eventually give a spin-off to. it's miserable to watch him. the show grinds to a halt whenever he's on screen. his monologues are boring more than menacing, and our people just have to suffer through his cruelty and it's miserable to watch. the show picks up again when they finally decide to fight back (even though there is still a sense that nothing will ever really be okay again because glenn is dead and his death was just so cruel) but after they defeat negan, it grinds to a halt again, and it becomes an entirely different show. i'm only about halfway through s10 right now, but everything after negan is defeated feels like a cw show. rick "dies" and then there's a time jump and it's all just hollow.
the only thing that has an ounce of authenticity to it is carol and daryl's relationship and they really shine a light on it. it's not canon in the sense that they're not together but it really gives the impression that daryl is in unrequited* love with carol. basically what happens is that some time after daryl gets away from negan, he finds carol in that cottage/cabin place she's staying at and he lies to her about what's going on with the saviors. he tells her they took care of it and they won and everyone's fine and he does it to preserve her peace. he very clearly wants her to be a part of it and help them but he swallows down what he wants in order to give her what she needs.
morgan eventually tells her the truth about what's going on so she gets involved again and then she gets married to king ezekiel and they raise henry. i'm not sure if either of those characters exist yet by the time glenn dies but it doesn't matter. carol marries someone else and raises a child with him and after the time jump (which is about 6-7 years) it's revealed that like... everybody is all split up?? michonne lives in alexandria (with gabriel, rosita, and eugene). maggie lives at hilltop with jesus, tara, and enid (and maggie and michonne aren't talking for vague reasons but also maggie is actually gone and nobody's told michonne). carol lives in the kingdom with her husband and child. and daryl lives in none of the communities. he just lives out in the forest but carol knows where/how to find him and her child (who is a teenager now) also knows him.
then her kid is murdered and she leaves her husband because it's too hard for her and she basically goes right to daryl. not in a romantic sense but in a He's Here Person sense, like to the point that her husband asks daryl to stay out of it so their marriage can have a chance. (daryl doesn't). and then carol and daryl have a lot of bestie chats. carol goes away on a boat for a little bit but on one of the turn around days, before she goes back out on the boat, daryl asks her to stay. they talk about running away together. they don't end up doing it but they essentially move in to a house together in alexandria.
carol's still fucked up though and daryl is like pleading with her to talk to him and there are a lot of really good moments between them: a lot of talks, a lot of tears, a lot of hugs, a lot of sitting side by side, some bestie fights.
there's also a woman that seems to maybe have a thing for daryl and he's obviously fond of her but he also just... doesn't seem interested in her like that. like there's a moment when she's flirting with him and he's like "oh hey look my best friend carol is back let me go give her the biggest hug in the world."
like it just seems to obvious that carol is the most important person in the world to daryl by several miles (and there are enough lingering shots on his reaction to her with her husband, and her husband's feelings about him, that make it seem like it's more than just friendship for daryl).
as for carol's feelings.... they seem less straight forward but i think there's a very strong argument to be made that it's less that she doesn't feel that way about him and more that she won't allowed herself to. it's a line she doesn't want to cross for Reasons but those reasons aren't that she doesn't or couldn't feel that way. at one point, after her kid dies and she leaves her husband, she has a dream that she comes downstairs and daryl is cooking eggs and her son is sitting at the table and like... her husband is just straight up not a part of that dream. the family in her dream is her, daryl, and the kid. so. you know.
anyway. i still have about a season and a half left and i doubt they make it Confirmed Romantic in that time but i'll let you know if it happens.

so i'm watching the walking dead (kinda for the first time, i watched the first 3, 3 and a half seasons back in the day, now i'm on s10) and it's taking over my life and the issue with that is that i actively look for opinions, character rankings, analysis etc.
and it's an issue because i've discovered that the fandom really doesn't like maggie. and the reasons why make no sense to me like, at all, and they make me feel crazy
that means ofc that i need to rant about it
first: s1-s6 maggie. i think most people say they like maggie just fine in these seasons, or they just don't care about her that much. everyone complains about her forgetting about beth in 4b-5a but i mean. the general consensus is that that's shitty writing and not maggie being an awful sister (tho i have seen that opinion as well lol).
but the most common complaint i've seen about her character in this era is: maggie and glenn's characters are all about their romance (specifically from s2 to s4 i think). and i agree! i've always liked maggie but this is why i wasn't super invested in her character early on. the problem is when people say "maggie drags glenn down". but not the other way around? it's like they only see her as glenn's love interest, while glenn is a character on his own and he can't have more interesting storylines because he's stuck in this romance (a romance most fans love btw that's not the problem). i guess this is because glenn was introduced first and existed in the story before maggie but like. that was like 6 eps and it's not like he was getting a crazy character arc.
so yeah, it does feel like misogyny when someone blames maggie for this when it's a problem for both characters.
now, post s6 is where most of the maggie hate comes from, and they have plenty of reasons to dislike her, or her arc (and i disagree with most of them):
- "maggie isn't/doesn't deserve to be a leader, maggie's leader arc feels forced": okay this one is genuinely baffling to me because i love this arc. it starts in s7 (arguably 5b, i'd say maggie becoming deanna's counselor is the actual beginning), and that's important because s7-8 are generally agreed upon to be not well-written. in fact, most of my faves from prior seasons get the short stick during this era imo: rick, carol, daryl. that's why maggie was such a highlight to me; i was so invested in her rise to leadership in hilltop. it made complete sense to me because she started getting a more "political" role in 5b, and she was the one who made the deal with gregory in s6, and saw his incompetence first hand. it was not only compelling, but very natural for her character. it also makes sense with the trajectory the rest of the group was taking: once they get to alexandria, several of them start to get placed, or put themselves in, positions of power. it happens with rick, glenn, and abraham. but maggie is the one that feels forced and undeserving... why?
- "maggie is nothing but a widow after 7x01/maggie's character becomes all about negan": obviously i don't see the logic in this statement because she becomes the leader of a community in this era? she cares about people, she makes hilltop a better place, she calls out gregory's bullshit and gives him so many opportunities he doesn't even deserve. she does what needs to be done, but still listens to the people she loves. not once, in all of s7, does maggie mention negan or her need to take revenge. she bonds with sasha over their shared grief (something they'd already done in 5b, the arc that keeps on giving, but their dynamic started in 4b!), and sasha and enid take care of her; she befriends jesus, and he becomes instantly loyal to her because he sees all her qualities; he knows what an incompetent leader is like, and knows that maggie is perfect for the position. maggie never stops mourning, but all of these relationships aren't about glenn or negan. but no one cares about them enough to remember or appreciate them i guess ://
- "maggie betrayed rick": this is actually so stupid and definitely one of those instances when people hate on character for disagreeing with/going against their favourite character. rick was wrong when he spared negan. he was wrong for deciding that on his own, for not consulting anyone, for disregarding the feelings of maggie and daryl and everyone else negan had hurt. and rick did for selfish reasons! he wanted to honour carl, and so he betrayed his friends and he acted like that was the only choice. like what he wanted was what mattered. maggie (and daryl) had every right to go behind his back and try to kill negan. rick didn't respect her wishes, didn't keep his word after he said he wouldn't stop until negan was dead, so why should she obey him? it's crazy that there are people who feel that way. if carl had died during the line up, maggie would never have stopped him from taking revenge, even if for some reason glenn believed that to be right. it was an awful thing to do to her, right when she thought she could finally end it and find some peace of mind. team maggie and daryl for life dpmo!!!
related to that, maggie was also right about not wanting to follow the rules rick and michonne were planning to establish, and doing what she felt was best for her people. she was right when she didn't want to give food to the saviors, she was right when she suspected them, she was right when she let the oceanside women execute arat. no one has ever been more right in the history of television.
and this is kinda related too, but i've seen michonne fans boast about michonne always being calm and collected and always making the right decisions (which is not true, thankfully michonne is more complex than that). i bring it up because unfortunately i often see twd fans use their love for a female character to insult the other women in the show. which is really tragic, but in this case i also can't see why that's something to boast about. i like that maggie is angry and resentful, i like that she makes mistakes and irrational choices because of that anger and grief. i like that she doesn't let go of all those messy feelings in order to be calm and therefore more palatable. yes, fans call her whiny and say she should just move on, get over it (fucked up if you see what she went through, but whatever). but i don't want that. female characters are always expected to get over things quickly, to deal with their problems quietly, because if they don't they're whiny and annoying and insufferable. if they make bad decisions they're useless, they're getting people killed. male characters are allowed to have those ugly feelings, to snap, to be cruel and violent because they're hurting. that makes them more compelling, more layered. but not female characters, not maggie. sure, fans also blame daryl for his impulsive behaviour, but that doesn't stop him from being the most popular character. maggie has many moments when she's super cool (when she makes the deal with hilltop, when she hangs gregory) but those are never hyped like every single small moment when a man is a badass. or when they do the bare minimum tbh, people don't need much to stan a male character.
tl;dr: i absolutely adore maggie, and the fact that she has the best arc during the worst part of the show made me so invested in her story. all the hate she gets, and the reasons people give to justify hating her, are completely nonsensical to me. "we didn't watch the same show" levels of nonsense. i sincerely hope she's as unbearable as everyone says she is when she comes back. i hope she's nasty and i will love her even more for it!

I think having two lineup deaths was stupid and they both just drew attention away from each other. If the writers wanted Sasha and Maggie grieving together (best part of s7) then they literally could’ve kept Abraham’s comic book death. Like the timing was right for it to go that way and it wouldn’t have taken attention away from Glenn.
There was never a moment watching this show where I ever believed glenn wasn’t going to get his comic book death. Everything Maggie does after he dies just like has to happen and wouldn’t if glenn didn’t get his comic book death. It’s a very integral to the plot kind of death. But I hate how closely they stuck to the comic book visuals and I shan’t rewatch it.
Also all the teasing and fake outs and jerking glenn around that the writer did in season 6 was pretty tasteless imo and didn’t add anything to the story
Also 7x01 is a bad episode even if i like the title

Yeah, I tried to keep watching after Negan’s introduction in 7x01 after he murdered Abraham and Glenn for the sakes of Rick, Carl, Michonne, and Maggie. However, it just kept going downhill afterwards. I feared that would happen once they introduced Negan on the show. It’s not that I usually have an issue with anti-villains and tragic villains getting redemption arcs, but Negan was just portrayed as way too horrifically evil, petty, remorseless, self-righteous, and tyrannical for me to ever buy as a character I’d ever want to see truly redeemed enough to make truly friends with on Team Family. At best, they could have had Negan stay in prison for the rest of his life as punishment, or had him atone slightly by dying to save Carl or Judith.
That fantasy vision that Carl had of Negan being a happy and beloved member of their team was totally ooc bs, though. Carl witnessed that monster of a man brutally and sadistically murder two of his friends by bashing in their heads to bloody piles of broken down brain matter. He knows how much Glenn’s murder devastated Maggie, and he even tried to hug her afterwards to comfort her when he saw her breaking down in 7x01 in the aftermath. He witnessed Negan toy with the possibility of murdering him. He saw that Negan ran Alexandria as an abusive and tyrannical cult leader. He saw how Negan kept multiple wives as his slaves. He saw how Negan hurt Dwight to punish him.” He knows that Negan took in his friend Daryl as a prisoner to torture him for shits and giggles. He knows that Negan mocked him for the loss of his eye.
Two main characters who were good people didn’t “need” to die for shock value and the woobification of the most evil villain in the series who’s still not fully sorry for being a piece of garbage, anyway. Team Family didn’t “need” to be sacrificed and sidelined to prioritize him. No wonder so many fans are pissed off.
i really hate this show so fucking much i literally don’t know what to do rick grimes has always been one of my favorite characters i love glenn rhee, carl grimes, maggie rhee, michonne, and rick grimes more than anyone else on this show but i don’t. i don’t know what that scene with rick under the tree was bc the glass didn’t seem to be broken was that a flashback or was that now either way every single time i think about the fact that carl is gone and every single time i think about the fact that rick grimes lost his son i lose my fucking mind but i just. that’s not what this is. the walking dead used carl’s death as an excuse to keep negan alive. that’s literally all that was and i don’t think i’ve ever seen literally anything more disrespectful in quite literally my entire life. and then,,,,,,, for rick grimes to keep negan alive. rick grimes heard maggie rhee fucking bawling her eyes out and screaming her throat raw please kill him, he killed glenn, please kill him and he ignored her. “for carl.” this truly cannot be a thing. i simply don’t understand how rick grimes could think about the fact that his son wanted a better world, to think about the walks that he and carl took and how he got to raise carl and see him grow and love him more than anyone else in the world and at the same time, when he hears maggie sobbing the most painful sobs i have ever heard in my entire life, not think about the fact that negan took those moments away from glenn. maggie rhee is pregnant with glenn rhee’s child and by God glenn rhee deserved more than anyone else in literally the entire fucking world to raise his child and to take walks with his child and to see his child grow and to love his child more than anyone else in the world and that was taken from him. that was taken from him by negan bc negan took him from this world. negan took glenn rhee away from his wife and his child. how in God’s Name can rick think about his son and not think about the complete fucking irony that he is doing all of this bc his son is gone and his son was the best part of his life and his son told him that he loved him more than anyone else and glenn rhee will never have that opportunity. to use carl to keep negan alive and to disrespect glenn so aggressively is the most absolutely stupid and unforgivable thing the walking dead has ever done, and that’s saying a lot, bc everything that the walking dead has done for the past four or so years has been fucking stupid. but to take two of the best characters on this show and fucking shit on their memories is something i am so indescribably angry about i quite literally cannot put it into words. fuck the walking dead. fuck the walking dead writers for making rick make the decision he made. fuck the walking dead writers for making michonne support rick’s ignorant decision. fuck the walking dead writers for taking glenn rhee and carl grimes to “advance the plot.” fuck the walking dead writers for making the next season about fucking internal conflicts between the only three characters that i love more than anyone else in the show. fuck the walking dead for creating characters that i love more than anyone and ruining them.

Tumblr media
You were trapped, there was no way out of it now. The whistling echoing through the woods was deafening. You were surrounded by the Saviors illuminated by beams of light, all of their lips puckered up as the high-pitched notes fell from them. The guns your group was aiming at the Saviors were nothing compared to the firepower they had, you would all be dead before any of you could pull the trigger.
One of the Saviors started talking, but you didn’t pay attention. You couldn’t. Not with the endless horrible scenarios running through your mind right now about how this all could go.
The Savior raised his voice at Rick, causing you and some others to flinch before a couple other Saviors started coming towards you. They forcefully took your weapons from you – the weapons you’d stolen from them not too long ago when you took over one of their outposts.
Then, you were all pushed forward, told to get on your knees. And pray, you thought. Angry tears welled in your eyes as you glared at the Savior, balling your hands into fists by your sides. Next, you watched as the Savior called for Dwight – you remembered Dwight, that son of a bitch. He was the one that double-crossed Daryl after he was kind enough to help him get away from the Saviors. You hated Dwight with a burning passion and there he was, walking towards a transporter. You caught sight of the all too familiar angel wings on the back of the vest he was wearing, Daryl’s vest, and the crossbow he was carrying; also, Daryl’s.
Rick must’ve noticed too because as soon as you locked your angry eyes with his reddened ones, he shook his head just barely. You couldn’t step out of line now, not with the enemy behind you, next to you, in front of you. So, you stayed, watching helplessly as Dwight opened the doors to the back of the transporter. He reached in and out came Daryl, Michonne, Rosita, and Glenn. You shifted on your knees at the sight of Daryl, all beat up and bloody with a flimsy sheet hanging around his shoulders. Glenn gasped out Maggie’s name, who was crying a couple people beside you, and soon, the remaining four of your group were pushed to a kneeling position with the rest of you.
“All right! We got a full boat. Let's meet the man.” The Savior shouted while he walked towards the RV before he knocked on the door of it. It felt like hours passed until the doors opened, but when they did, you held your breath.
“Pissing our pants yet?” Shouted the man enthusiastically, “Boy, do I have a feeling we're getting close. Yep. It's gonna be pee-pee pants city here real soon. Which one of you pricks is the leader?”
He seemed too happy to be here – too eager. His barbed-wire wrapped bat swung loosely around in his hand while he stalked towards your group all smiles, before stopping in front of you. One of the Saviors had spoken up about Rick, telling him that he was your leader, so the man in the leather jacket walked up to him.
“Hi. You're Rick, right? I'm Negan.” He grinned, but the smile quickly faltered, “And I do not appreciate you killing my men. Also, when I sent my people to kill your people for killing my people, you killed more of my people. Not cool. Not cool. You have no idea how not cool that shit is.”
So, this was the infamous Negan everyone was so afraid of. You had to admit that he was scary. It was the fact that he seemed so unbothered by death and the way he smiled when people cowered before him. He was a leader – no, more like a dictator. People blindly followed his orders, calling themselves by his name and giving him everything he asks for. He was nothing more than a horrible person and you wanted him dead, right now more than before.
He kept talking and talking, walking back and forth and swinging his bat around like it was a toy. He explained to you how it was going to go from now on. That you’d be working for him, providing for him – otherwise he’d kill you all. You certainly were trapped, there was no safe way out of this.
Rick hadn’t said a word this whole time, trembling and crying next to you while he stared at Negan who still had that same cheeky grin on his face. Negan then stopped, “What, no answer?”
His eyes roamed along your group, eyeing each and every one of you, “You don't really think that you were gonna get through this without being punished, now, did you? I don't want to kill you people. Just want to make that clear from the get-go. I want you to work for me.”
Jesus Christ, did he ever stop talking? How can he get anything done when he talks so much? You’d zoned out again, red eyes trying to read the man’s lips as he spoke but you could barely make out anything he was saying. You remembered when the Hilltop told you what the Saviors had done. That they had them lined up exactly like you were right at this moment. That Negan had bashed the heads of two of their people in. You feared that this was about to happen to you.
“This-- this is Lucille, and she is awesome. All this, all this is just so we can pick out which one of you gets the honor.” Negan said and inhaled sharply, walking back and forth in front of your group again. He ran a hand over his beard and huffed, “Huh. Ugh, I gotta shave this shit.”
Then, he stopped in front of Carl, your head turning to watch the scene unfold as Negan squatted down to be on eye level with the boy. Negan grinned again, “You got one of our guns. Whoa. Yeah. You got a lot of our guns.”
Carl didn’t say anything back, making Negan chuckle, “Shit, kid, lighten up. At least cry a little.”
Negan then stood back up and cleared his throat, walking the line the other way before he stopped in front of Maggie, laughing. He told her she looked terrible, that he should put her out of her misery, and got ready to swing his bat when Glenn lunged forward, screaming. Then Maggie started screaming on top of Glenn’s protests and yells until Glenn was forced back in line, whimpering and rocking on his knees. He so desperately wanted to be with Maggie right now. You knew the feeling. Hell, you wanted nothing more than to be next to Daryl right now. To take him back to Alexandria and patch him up, but your gut told you that you would not get the chance to.
Negan was talking again and your eyes focused back on him, trying to find a weak spot somewhere – anywhere. The man was impossible to read and even more impossible to figure out and you hated it. You hated every single second of being here, kneeling on the ground like you were worth nothing. To Negan, you surely weren’t.
“All right, listen. Don't any of you do that again. I will shut that shit down, no exceptions. First one's free. It's an emotional moment, I get it. Sucks, don't it? The moment you realize you don't know shit. This is your kid, right?” Negan said and pointed his bat towards Carl, watching Rick’s reaction closely before he let out a laugh, “This is definitely your kid.”
“Just stop this!” Rick then yelled, frustrated and angry and Negan certainly didn’t appreciate that. His shit-eating grin faltered just a little, but only a fraction of a second, before it graced his lips again.
“Hey! Do not make me kill the little future serial killer. Don't make it easy on me. I gotta pick somebody. Everybody's at the table waiting for me to order.” He whistled the usual tune, starting his march along the line again, “I simply cannot decide.”
Then, he chuckled, “I got an idea.”
Negan lifted his bat and aimed it at the first person in line, “Eenie...”
He kept going and going, reciting the children’s counting with each person his bat faced, causing whoever was in front of it to cower. He moved and moved until he stopped in front of Abraham with another grin, “Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy's other eye out and feed it to his father and then we'll start. You can breathe, you can blink, you can cry. Hell, you're all gonna be doing that.”
The next moment went by in slow motion as Negan swung his bat and let it collide with the top of Abraham’s head. The group screamed and cried out as Abraham slumped over, his head cut open and bleeding but that bastard rose up again, glaring at Negan through the blood trickling down his forehead. Negan then laughed, apparently impressed by Abraham’s will to survive but he had no mercy. He swung his bat once more, this time with more force, and slammed it against Abraham’s head again. The man had no choice but to fall down fully this time, losing consciousness and Negan took that as his cue to bash on his head that rested on the ground beneath over and over again. The sound it made had you feeling sick to your stomach and you forced yourself to look away, tears falling down your cheeks as you fixed your gaze on the ground.
“You guys, look at my dirty girl!” Negan said with a laugh, seemingly amused by the whole situation, and walked towards Rosita, who had her attention focused on the ground as well. “Sweetheart... Lay your eyes on this.”
But Rosita didn’t look. She couldn’t and you understood. Rosita loved Abraham. Even though she never confessed to it, you knew. You knew because the way she looked at Abraham was the same way you looked at Daryl. You hated seeing her like this. She was your friend, your family, and all you could do was sit here and do nothing.
Negan waved the bat in front of her face, wanting to get her attention but Rosita still didn’t look. Negan then sighed heavily, “Oh, damn. Were you -- Were you together? That sucks. But if you were, you should know there was a reason for all this. Red -- and hell, he was, is, and will ever be red. He just took one or six or seven for the team! So take...a damn look.”
Still, Rosita persisted, her gaze remaining on the ground, “Take a damn look!”
That made Daryl snap as he jumped up quicker than any of you could register and punched Negan in the face, only to be tackled by a couple of Saviors right after. You wanted to scream for them to stop, jump up and run towards Daryl, help him. But you couldn’t. You were glued to the spot and all you could really do was watch as they held him down and Dwight walked over, aiming the crossbow to his head. Through the struggle, Daryl’s eyes met your own and you silently pleaded with him to stop.
Dwight was eager to let the loaded arrow go, drive it straight into the back of Daryl’s head but Negan wouldn’t let him, telling his Saviors to put him back in line. They picked Daryl up and pushed him towards you, your arms instinctively reaching out to steady him as he fell to his knees. He crawled over and turned around, back to facing Negan who was, or never stopped, grinning.
You slowly reached a shaking hand out towards Daryl’s and placed it on top of his, glancing at him through tear-filled eyes. Daryl wordlessly nudged his nose up in a nod, trying to tell you that it was okay, that he was okay but you knew it wasn’t true. He had been shot, he was bleeding and he was bruised – he wasn’t okay.
“Now, I already told you people -- first one's free, then -- what'd I say? I said I would shut that sh1t down! No exceptions.” Negan exclaimed and you huffed out a breath, your grip on Daryl’s hand tightening when he gave you a warning glance. He knew what you were about to start and he couldn’t let you.
“Now, I don't know what kind of lying assholes you've been dealing with... but I'm a man of my word. First impressions-“
“Jesus Christ, do you ever stop talking?” You snapped, feeling all eyes on you when Negan focused his attention on you. He had his eyebrows raised in surprise and a dimply smile on his face, his tongue peeking out between his teeth.
“Well, holy shit. Who’s this feisty little lady? Talking back to me, huh?” Negan said with a laugh and pointed his bat towards you, “What’s your name?”
You didn’t respond. You didn’t want to give him the satisfaction. Negan raised an expecting eyebrow at you, tilting his head to the side as he asked again.
“Y/N.” You finally replied and saw Rick sigh and shake his head from the corner of your eye. You knew what he was thinking but you couldn’t hold back, even if it meant that you would, most likely, die for it.
“Mm, Y/N. I like that. However, I do not appreciate you talking back to me like that. Tell you what though, I’m gonna give you an option to get out of this easy.” Negan spoke, making your blood run cold, “Easy option: You come back with me to the Sanctuary and I’m gonna pretend that this little outburst of yours didn’t happen. You’ll become one of my wives. I promise I’ll treat you real good. Not-so-easy option: I’m gonna be real offended by what you just said and I’m gonna kill another one of your people. It’s up to you.”
Breathing heavily, you glanced around your group, watching their shocked and disbelieving expressions. Some shook their heads at you, telling you nowhile others just cried silent tears. If going meant that your group would be safe, then you’d go. You had to, for them. It was either you or someone else dying and you didn’t want to have that on your conscience. So, you slipped your hand from Daryl’s and pressed your palms against your thighs, using it as help to slowly rise up from the ground. Negan followed your every move with his bat and you could hear guns cocking all around you but you didn’t show your fear.
“I will come if you promise to let my people go. Right now.” You countered and Negan swung around, sharing laughs with the Saviors before he faced you again, his bat pointed at you once more.
“If you promise that you’ll be a good wife of mine, then I can promise that.” He said, eyebrows raised expectantly, “We got a deal, Sugar?”
“Fine. But I need to see you let them go, otherwise, I’m not coming.”
“Alrighty. Damn, I like you. Woo.” Negan cheered, whistling and nudging his head at the Saviors who then retreated, their guns hanging by their sides and you let out a breath of relief. He actually listened.
“Good. Now Dwight, load her up. And him, too” Negan pointed towards Daryl while you were being led away by Dwight, fighting your hardest not to punch that motherfucker in the face right then and there.
“That wasn’t part of the deal!” You shouted, ripping away from Dwight as you stopped in your tracks.
“I want him, so I’ll have him. He's got guts -- not a little bitch like someone I know. I like him. He's mine now. But you still want to try something? "Not today, not tomorrow." "Not today, not tomorrow"? I will cut pieces off of... Hell's his name?” Negan pondered while Dwight left you to retrieve Daryl, who for once complied and let himself be led to where you were standing.
“His name’s Daryl.” You said and Negan chuckled. Dwight pushed Daryl towards you and you caught him just in time, steadying him with your hands on his shoulders. The look he gave you broke your heart and you bit your lip to stop yourself from crying. You reached up and brushed the hair that had fallen into his eyes away, running your hand along his cheek gently.
“That actually sounds right. I will cut pieces off of Daryl and put them on your doorstep -- or, better yet, I will have sweet little Y/N do it for me.” Negan said and chuckled when he saw your group’s reactions, “Ahh! Welcome to a brand-new beginning, you sorry shits! I'm gonna leave you a truck. Keep it. Use it to cart all the crap you're gonna find me. We'll be back for our first offering in one week. Until then... ta-ta.”
And with that, Dwight loaded you and Daryl into the back of the transporter and shut the double doors loudly. You closed your eyes and dropped your head against the side of the van, sighing loudly.
“Why would you do that?” Daryl then asked and you lifted your head again, trying to see him in the dark transporter.
“I did it for you. For Rick, Glenn, Maggie... I had to do something, it made me sick just sitting there waiting for something to happen.”
“So you just offer yourself to ‘im?” Daryl snapped and you sighed. You pushed yourself up so you were on your knees and crawled towards the man, stopping in front of him. You cradled his face in your hands and forced him to look at you, studying his eyes in the dark.
“Daryl. We’ll be okay – I will be. I can handle myself, you out of all people should know that.” You assured him, only receiving a low hum from him in response.
“I love you.” You told him and you felt his body stiffen. He knew you that you did, but you never said it aloud. But hearing it now, on your way to certain death, he couldn’t help but let out a sob.
“I love you, Daryl. And I will fight for you, for all of us. I will get us out of this alive and after that, we’re gonna win. We will defeat them. I know we will. Whatever it takes.” You said again and practically felt him crumble beneath you as he dropped his head on your shoulder and cried, arms wrapping around your body to pull you to him. He didn’t have to say it back, you knew he loved you. Daryl was never a man of many words – his actions spoke louder than any confession ever could. He cared for you more than he ever cared for anyone in his life. You were his life. The thing worth fighting for.
So, when he pulled away from you and you kissed him, finally, he didn’t want to let go. He’d waited for this moment for so long and it took Negan capturing you both for it to happen. When you pulled away and caressed his cheek, you yourself let out a sob – now realizing what you’d gotten yourself into. But you had to fight, you needed to. After all, you were always told you were a badass. Time to show Negan who he was dealing with.
