Heads Up! (Glódís Viggósdóttir x Reader)
A/N Popped into my head. (Need to get out all the randoms before I can attack the years old requests rip😭)
Content/Warning(s): Fluff, R Being Good with Kids, Tickle fight, Smaller fic today.
----
"Alright you lot, your mum has left me in charge, what are we thinking of doing?"
The group of your five nieces and nephews bouncing around excitedly in front of your game deadened form, one arm holding onto your sixth and youngest niece sitting on your hip.
The sun beads down on the campus pitch after a successful afternoon match against Essen, but it's cool enough that it's not unpleasant to be outside still.
"Aunty Y/n!"
Eloise, the second oldest at 10, jumps into you, her little brown curls frilled out around her face, reminding you heavily of your own when you were younger.
"Yes Munchkin?"
She giggles tugging and pointing to the mini scrimmage a few of your younger clubmates have started.
"You wanna play a game?"
"With the girls! Duh!"
"Duh, oh my goodness, I totally forgot you asked earlier."
Slapping your forehead comically, jaw dropping playfully.
"How about that everyone, do we wanna play a round with the girls."
The kids, ranging from 11 to 5 all cheer, nodding and bouncing around, even the tot in your arms gurgling small baby noises in your ear.
"Alright, How about we go ask if they wanna play first huh?"
Nudging the group away to go find the girls, you walk over to your sister sitting pregnant in the stands beside her wife.
Nodding down to the blonde girl now fisting your shirt as she self soothes from the still noisy crowd.
"Care to hold one more, Lisa?"
They chuckle.
"I'll take Jamie, you go look after the flock, Aunty Y/n."
Saluting to the older woman, you jog off after the crowd of kids now tugging at Anna and Tuva's Jerseys.
"Guys, we're supposed to ask nicely, no begging, it's not nice to beg!"
You mildly scold them for hassling the girls so insistently.
Anna and Tuva, of course, protest the children's innocence to you.
"Leave them be, meanie. Of course we'll play, what do we say, kids?"
Cheering from the little ones as they run off to set up a mini pitch, and you stand for a moment to glance around the arena.
Catching eyes with a certain girlfriend of yours, you smile at the loving look in her eyes, giving the older woman a wink as you jog back towards the now started up game.
Across the pitch, the captain stands amongst a group of the other girls, watching the chaos of your little family as they all wrestle for the ball, definitely not following any particular rules or keeping count of goals, as your taller form, and that of Tuva and Anna's mucks around, you occasionally picking up and tossing around a couple of the older ones when they go to get the ball.
Hearing whines of "Stop cheating, Aunty y/n/n" and your response of "I don't what you're talking about, you can pick up other players in the game."
The teasing lilt in your tone makes the kids giggle at your silliness, bringing a warmth up the Icelander's chest.
A nudge to the shoulder.
"Heart eyes much, Gló?"
An amused smirk on the Austrian's face beside her makes her roll her eyes, before turning back to you lifting the oldest and tallest niece over your shoulder with a small war cry, other arm grabbing a hold of the smallest boy, both squealing and giggling at your antics.
"She's so good with them, I have every right to have heart eyes, look at her."
Sarah gives her a knowing smile.
"Marry her before I do, because honestly."
Scoffing, Glódís shoves her.
"I'm working on it."
"Better be, If you don't someone else will cause damn."
Playfully groaning and eyeing you up earns her another shove, leaving her chuckling, Glódís knowing the woman is kidding, but regardless the thought of you marrying anyone else sending a shiver down her spine.
Still, seeing how easily you get along with all of them, pulling the one's who fall back to their feet without much thought, checking on the occasional tears or two from rough falls, brushing them away and getting them back into the game with a sweet caring tone.
Copping a small nudge to the back again, she's pushed in your direction.
"Go get your girl, looks like she might lose in a second."
As promised, your body drops to the ground, the oldest, Jemison and Eloise tackling you, playful cries for help leaving your lips as they attempt to wrestle you away from the ball.
Jogging over, she puts on her best captains voice.
"What is going on here?!"
Her tone makes the entire group jump, the stern look on her face as the girls guiltily look up at someone they've come to know well as your girlfriend.
You look up surprised but turning to see her face, half struggling to keep the stern look on, you realise what she's doing.
"Aunty Y/n was cheating Aunty Gló!"
She pretends to ponder for a moment.
"Well that's not good..."
She pauses for a moment before a smirk tugs at her lips and she stands over you.
"Were you cheating L/n? You know that's illegal."
"But Capi..."
You pout softly.
She makes subtle gestures of come hither towards the girls that stepped away from your still prone form.
"I sentence you to a tickling for the crime of cheating in a scrimmage."
"No wait-"
Your eyes widen at the declaration.
"Get her girls!"
The pair immediately dive back into your form, winding you, attempting to tickle you.
Glódís quickly joins them, though, much to your dismay, points out soft spots between your ribs that makes you start squirming and cackling breathlessly beneath the now growing pile of kids joining in.
Tuva standing amused to the side, smiling at the lot of you.
"No please! I'll never cheat again!"
The Norwegian chimes in.
"Mmmm, I don't know guys, should we believe her?"
Gló's fingers twitching just below your left side ribs.
"I promise! Never again!"
The kids all ponder for a moment, allowing reprieve in the mild torture.
You give them your best pleading eyes, shooting a pout up at your girlfriend who's heads hovering just over yours, to which she fires back a wink.
"Alright alright, I think we've punished her enough. I'm sure she's learned her lesson."
The kids groan, but quickly hop off you, returning to the game with hopes to get a quick advantage on your still downed form.
The older woman helps you up with a small chuckle.
A small disgruntled look on your face as you turn to face the woman fully.
"Did you have to show them that, now they actually know where my weak spot is."
A whining tone that makes your girlfriend laugh.
"Had to give them something to win."
"The betrayal. Absolute betrayal."
Pretending to get the huffs, you fake turn only to be grappled and pulled back into the taller woman's form.
Humming softly, you gesture for a kiss from the woman, pouting up at her.
"I deserve compensation for this traitorous behaviour."
"Of course, baby, I'm so sorry, come here."
Leaning down, her soft lips capture your own in a quick movement that despite fully expecting the movement every time it happens, still leaves you breathless.
She goes to pull away only for you chase her lips for one more peck and she grins, your hands holding her cheeks.
You settle into her arms and she gestures to the group of kids paying neither of you any mind as they wrestle in another goal against Anna, the goalkeeper fake diving to the left with a loud groan of disappointment.
Turning back to the older woman, her eyes are still on you, watching the loving look in your eye at the small little family your sister and her wife have let you be a part of, a small almost familiar expression on her face.
Poking her nose softly, you prod an answer from her.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Seriously, what's the look for."
"Okay okay. Just seeing you with them, it's... really sweet, how good you are with them."
The realisation dawns on you, and you grin widely.
"Imagining our own little mini us?"
Flushing a little, she nods sheepishly.
"Maybe. If that's something you want."
"Are you kidding?"
Gripping her face to face you when she near turns back to the group.
"Of course I do, I would love to have a family with you."
Eyes a little watery, you press another kiss to her lips, this time, it's her chasing you, taking much longer to pull away, although this time it's through the loud shouts of your name from the second tiniest niece, Grace.
"Aunty Aunty, come on, yous are taking too long!"
"Alright alright, patience Gracie, we're coming."
"Yeah Aunty, come on."
The teasing Austrian lilt from the now joining Sarah makes you shake your head with a small giggle.
"Stop kissing our captain and get over here."
The glare from Glódís has no bite behind it and you chuckle, pecking away the pout as she turns back to you when you attempt to join the group.
"Come on, you, we've got an army to look after."
Watching your now running form return to the group, grabbing Tuva by the arm, wrestling with her with another war cry, the Norwegian joining you in the yelling, the kids egging you both on, she can't help the smile that joins her shaking head.
She can't wait to marry you.

It's Warm and The Charms-a-workin' (Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir x Reader)
A/n Requested. Gettin back into it, y'all (again)
Content/Warning(s): Fluff, Swearing, Gay. (Idk)
"I swear it keeps getting nicer every time I come back here."
A few heads turn your way with curious gazes at the newly deboarded woman barely wrapped up in a long sleeve shirt, jacket and jeans, gazing around with a warm smile despite the severe chill swirling around the country for the Christmas holidays.
"C'mon you, their waiting at the gate for us, they've been asking when I'm going to bring you back to Iceland. You know sometimes I think they love you more than me."
Your girlfriend shakes her head fondly, taking your hand and dragging your somehow hot running self up the stairs into the terminal from the freezing cold outside, occasionally passed by a rushing flightgoer with small apologies for brushing past in the narrow walkway.
The sun was just starting to crest over the horizon, showing itself finally in its short daily visit over Reykjavik, the early morning flight from Germany to Keflavík and then Reykjavik allowing you enough time to land during daylight hours.
Not that you minded the evening hours in Iceland.
The place was beautiful this time of year, or even just in general but having constantly running festive lighting all year round was certainly a plus.
The airport hustle around you feels somewhat familiar to the one in Munich as your hand tightens in Glódís' to hold her closer to you as you move around the crowd, eventually spotting the familiar faces of your (you're hoping) future in-laws.
Viggó and Magnea both approach you with warm smiles, quickly bringing you in for hugs each, rapid greetings to you and their daughter who's amused look of "Told-you-so" makes you chuckle.
"Quickly, We need to get home before the sun goes down, we have some places to take you to."
"Of course, I'll grab our suitcases and meet you outside the terminal if you go find the car?"
You turn to Glódís, nodding towards the arrivals baggage claim.
"Okay, call me if you get lost again."
The small smirk on her face makes you roll your eyes and huff at her playfully.
"I will not. Now stop it."
She chuckles.
An antic look on her face and your surprised by a very sudden slap to your butt and you jump, nearly swearing at the loudness alone and a soft glare back her way.
"Well get moving!"
Glaring harder at the Icelander, you rather swiftly reprimanding her.
"Damn it, Gló, not in front of your-"
Her parents look back, amused at how quickly you shut your mouth, flustered.
Magnea nudges the ginger towards the door with an amused smile on her face, leaving you to grab the packed bags.
"Leave the poor girl alone, Glódís."
The last thing you hear in the loud airport from them is Glódís' soft giggle as they exit, leaving you staring at the luggage conveyor's entrance to the arrivals lobby.
Standing in silence as you take in the warmth of the air conditioning, blasting through the large building, battling against the ever present cold threatening to overwhelm the area through the ever open automatic doors.
Given how busy Munich always is, it surprises you how much you seem to relax in the busy-ness of Reykjavik.
Maybe it's in the way you find yourself thinking about what you're doing during the trip here for the week.
Maybe it's the thought of the long conversations ahead, constantly going over how to word your one question to the girl you love's parents.
Maybe it's a bit traditional and outdated of you.
Maybe it's something you know she won't be mad about you asking.
You'd talked about marriage before, long before now, back when you were still acclimating, still just friends with the woman.
She'd said marriage was something she wanted in the future.
That whenever it happened, it happened.
You thank the lord every day that you'd gotten an answer that day because any other day would've definitely scared the poor woman off given how quickly you'd both gotten together within your first seven months at the club.
Regardless, she wanted marriage, the question was, does she want it with you?
It's a nervous thought, it makes you tick every day you spend with her because you find yourself falling head over heels in love with this woman.
The fact you even have those doubts worries you.
You're so comfortable with each other, there's no part of her you don't know already.
There's no part of you that she doesn't know or at least have an idea of by now.
She knows your ticks, your nervous habits, your expressions, even somehow conquering the art of your weird southern sayings.
Lord, she knows what you're about to say before you say it.
It takes all of a single look and she knows how you're feeling before you do.
The best part is, it was all so easy to settle into, it wasn't slow, it wasn't fast, just the right speed for you to fall for each other.
The domesticity.
And that's when you realise that your fears shouldn't be fears at all.
The fact Glódís hasn't run away from the domesticity tells you everything.
Why stay comfortable with that if she wasn't in it for the long haul, right?
Not to mention she's been talking a lot about your teammates weddings and...
Oh.
She's been hinting this whole time.
Oh shoot.
She's been hinting this whole time and you've missed it- and you're about to miss the brightly coloured suitcases belonging to you and her travelling past you on the conveyor for the fourth time.
Swiftly grappling onto the straps of the bags, you wheel them out to the carpark, your previous thoughts ringing through your head and you spot the Toyota belonging to Viggó pulled up closer to the carparks entrance.
Glódís looks from her watch held up towards her face, giving you a teasing smile as you walk towards the car.
"Took your time, hey?"
"C'mon, you know they take an age gettin' the bags loaded onto the conveyor. I did NOT get lost."
The cheeky smile on her face as she presses a soft kiss to your cheek makes you pout, and she chuckles, grabbing the bags from your hands to lug them up into the trunk.
The drive back to Kópavogur is shorter than you expected, surprised at so little traffic on the way back to the large town where the woman sitting leant on your shoulder grew up.
Her warm breath puffing against the skin of your neck as she watches you take in the surroundings of the roads through the car window, relaxes you.
The whole time you spend watching car after car go past, the buildings occasionally towering over the highways and side roads remind you of your time back in Portland.
You notice the slowing puffs of air against you, and the woman on your shoulder falls asleep there before the end of the trip, having been awake long before the majority of the trip over here began.
Carefully holding her head there, your hand rests on her face, and shifts to her knee, and you make eye contact with her father in the rear vision mirror, who smiles at the sight behind him.
Ever the protective father, his smile at you stems from the place where he knows his stubborn, intelligent and strong daughter has found someone who'll protect her in even the smallest moments without question, and with no words spoken, gives you a small nod, which you smile softly at and return the gesture.
Upon arrival, you gently stir the woman with a kiss to the forehead and a couple nudges, helping her from the car with a hand down and a wink, which she accepts with a small grin, plus a chuckle from Viggó which earns him a slap to the shoulder from his wife, something to the effect of "Leave them be." exiting the woman's mouth.
Not that you pay him much mind, your eyes locked on your girlfriend who's currently leading you and your suitcase over to her childhood home, her spare key already in hand.
The house is a warm, two story building, with an older brick touch compared to the modern surroundings you'd seen.
The small yard out front neat and clean and from the glimpse you get of the backyard over the side wooden fence, the same goes out there.
Though an old children's swing set and occasional small toys linger out in the grassy snow still, seemingly left there as a memory of the growth of the woman currently holding the thick wooden front door open for you and the older couple.
You step aside to gesture in only for them to practically push you in themselves, insisting guests first.
The house is still warm on the inside, the snow not making it past the concrete path and stoop, a drastic change in temperature for your now Munich accustomed self, much used to the warmth of the ranch you grew up on.
The inside is just as neatly kept as the yards, exceptions made for their home to look lived in, reminding you of your own.
You like a clean home but nobody loves a place not lived in.
It's perfect and you missed it, saying so out loud out of gratitude to your girlfriend's parents for letting you stay there.
"The place is beautiful as always, Ma'am."
Magnea chuckles, patting you on the shoulder as she moves past you to drop her bag by the entryway on the table.
"Thank you, Y/n. You know how I feel about being called that, though."
Your cheeks turn a soft pink, apology on the tip of your tongue until you get an amused pointed look from the older Icelander.
"Habits die hard."
Rubbing the back of your neck, you move to put your suitcase up in the room where Glódís has disappeared to, only to be grabbed by the shoulder and pulled to a corner of the kitchen by the older pair, voices hushed as they gesture for you to come closer.
"You got it, right?"
Back straightening, eyes widening in surprise, you stutter softly.
"Got w-what?"
"Oh come on, no need to hide it from us, we can see that look anywhere."
Glancing back and forth between them, Viggó's eyes in particular watching your own as they flicker trying to work out if they mean what you think they mean.
"Yes, that. Did you find one for her?"
Swallowing, you nod.
"Yeah, but how-"
"How did we know? Please. It's obvious."
Magnea is quick to ease the panicking look in your eyes.
"Not so obvious as for her to know it's happening but we know an approaching proposal when we see it. Especially when you suddenly start getting nervous around us. Your girlfriend's parents."
Viggó nods.
"You've got something to ask us, right?"
You hesitantly nod, going to open your mouth.
"Well don't."
Oh shoot. They don't approve. This is bad.
"We're not the ones you should be asking. Nobody but our daughter needs to be asked."
Oh.
"I completely understand, but it's just something we've discussed previously, and coming from how I grew up, even if I wasn't planning on taking much account of the answer, it's still nice to ask and-"
"And we completely understand, we know our girl would say yes to you in a heartbeat regardless of our answer, and she knows well that we know she wouldn't listen to us if we said no anyway, but our answer will be the same regardless because it's not us you're asking."
Viggó's hand tightens on your shoulder.
"You've shown how much we can trust you with our little girl, even though she's not little anymore, she's our baby, and you've proven how much you love her. And we'll always say yes to the one who protects her and loves her like you do."
Nodding, your eyes tear up a little, a wide smile crossing your face.
"Thank you, Sir. I appreciate that. And yes, I love your daughter more than anything. And she's given just as much back, more than me actually. I owe her so much and I wanna spend the rest of my life giving that back to her."
"Good, we know you will. In the mean time, you should probably go upstairs, lord knows she's dying to ask you about the conversation we just had."
You chuckle, nodding in agreement.
"Don't forget to show us later!"
Magnea calls up after you on your way up the stairs and at this point, the pink in your cheeks crawls up to the tips of your ears, which you practically have to smack away before you enter through the half closed door of the now rearranged bedroom.
Instead of the old bed there, it's been switched out for a larger queen size, though her old posters and dresser still remain, wanting to preserve her teen years yet again.
The woman is sat twiddling her thumbs on the mattress pretending like she hadn't just been attempting to listen down the hallway, not unlike her younger years when her parents had hushed conversations away from prying ears.
"Cute baby. You're not subtle, though."
Groaning, she flops back on the bed.
"Take that as you won't tell me?"
"Mm, no. You'll find out later. Just some stuff about our plans for the week."
The red head pouts up you as you sit on the mattress beside her dramatically limp body.
"Nothing? Not even a little hint?"
She reaches up, her thumb and forefinger held up in your direction indicating a small gap.
Laughing, you move her fingers together, closing the gap altogether.
"Nada, beautiful. Nothin'. You'll be fine. You, missy, need a lil' patience."
Leaning over, you press kiss after kiss to her face, finally shifting to her lips, silencing her soft grumbles turned giggles, her hands moving to remove your beanie, tangling in your loose long hair, tucking it back behind your ear as you smile down at her.
"Alright, alright. No more plotting with my parents, though. Those two won't tell me anything either, this is so not fair."
Chuckling you poke her nose.
"No guarantees, sorry."
Another soft pout that you kiss away, being pulled back in for a longer softer one, her grip on the back of your neck loosening to let you pull back a few centimetres.
"Now c'mon, we're losing daylight and your parents have stuff still planned for us."
Much to the chagrin of your girlfriend, she finds you constantly having quiet words with the two throughout your walk around the city, occasionally glancing her way with loving, encouraging eyes.
It's driving her mad trying to work out what's happening, not used to being this excluded from conversations, but she let's it happen, knowing it's just you bonding with the pair, remembering how nervous you'd been to meet them the first time around.
----
"Baby, relax, they'll love you."
Your hands grip the armrests of the middle seat on the plane tightly, knee bouncing slightly, much to the annoyance of the seat occupant on your right.
"I know but it's the first time I'm meeting anyone of my partners' parents, let alone yours, Gló."
Her expression softens at the genuinely stressed look in your eye.
She's never given you reason to be nervous, talking about the times her dad had proven time and time again that he wasn't as much of a threat as he liked to present.
Then again, maybe that was the point.
You didn't wanna disappoint the man and woman who'd raised the woman you'd fallen so hard for.
A hand loosening your curled fist and tangling fingers with yours makes you look at her finally, eyes cautiously meeting hers.
"Baby, they love you already, I don't know how many times they've asked me to bring you home for the winter break. There's no possible way they don't love you."
"But what if I don't live up to what they expect to see?"
Her hands cup your face, and your knee finally stops it's vibrating harshly against the carpeted floor of the plane.
"They expect you to be you, not anyone else. They don't expect anything because they wanna meet you, the human being who's behind all the love and time you've given me that I've told them about."
Biting your lower lip, you nod slowly, taking slower breaths to calm yourself as the plane begins it's descent into Reykjavik.
"Okay, I can accept that."
She nods in agreement, pressing a quick kiss to your cheek, settling properly back into her seat, ready for landing as soon as possible to get to see her family again finally.
-
"Y/n! Finally, look at you! So strong and beautiful, isn't she, Viggó?"
Your cheeks flush at the praise from the blonde haired woman enveloping you in a surprisingly warm embrace for a first meeting, your eyes darting back and forth between the older woman and your very much amused girlfriend, who's holding back laughter at your reaction.
"Mamma, let the girl breathe."
The woman pulls back, holding you in her grip still, hands on your arms looking over you with a never wavering smile before turning you towards the now standing next to you older gentleman, Glódís' father.
"Nice to finally meet you, Sir."
Holding out your hand, you go for a handshake only to have it half smacked away with an amused chuckle and hugged tightly by the much stronger than you anticipated older man.
"None of that formality, we're a hugging family here."
"Do I get my hugs, now, too?"
Having to remind her parents she's there teasingly, she's quickly enveloped by her mother, who presses a kiss to her cheek.
"Sorry, darling, she's so much more beautiful in person, why did you not tell us this?"
"Mamma, don't overwhelm the poor girl, she's about to combust."
"Magnea, dear, she's just met us, save the compliments for later."
Her dad chuckles, arm still around your shoulder squeezing you with a force only the excitedness of a dad meeting a new friend can.
"Yes, well, we're both very happy to have you here at home, now we have so much to do, let's get you both back to Kópavogur so you can rest up in time for it. We have so much to discuss."
----
And, lord, discuss they did.
Everything from your life in Germany right now down to every little adventure you had as a ranch owner's daughter.
Every horse you ever rode, every animal you cared for, everything you did as kid, they loved hearing about it. If it wasn't for the curious wonderment in their eyes, it would've felt like an interrogation.
All your girlfriend did was sit back, smiling behind every sip of her drink the whole time, more than happy to let you do the talking for once.
Her parents knew what she did already, they've seen her life, watched her games, it was nice to have someone take over for a while.
Of course, she didn't escape all of it, but she was letting you take the brunt of it for most of the trip, occasionally nudging her parents away from you for a little while to let you breathe.
Not that you minded any of it.
They were intense.
Hoo boy were they intense.
But it was nice and you enjoyed the feeling. Not that your own parents don't ask and talk to you, but it's different coming from people who aren't traditional southern farmers.
Your parents, albeit proud of how far you've come, don't quite find the excitement in your life that Glódís' parents do, and you find yourself appreciating that more than you want to admit.
This time around, though, it's less about your life growing up.
A lot about your national team games, a heck of a lot about the time you've spent with Glódís and more catchups from the last time about six months ago when you'd seen them in Munich.
It's just as the sun starts cresting back over the opposite end of the skyline when you realise you'd been talking for a good four hours at least.
From going to get food and some fresh groceries, to hanging out with Viggó while Glódís and Magnea went to go find coffee for the lot of you, which your aching tired body was practically begging for by the time the sun fully sets and the pair return.
Given how cold it is out, your girlfriend finds herself missing your warmth and eventually pulls you away from the pair long enough to tuck herself into your side, much to your amusement, given how you'd figured she'd be the one holding your shivering self, again, much to your surprise.
You grow up in one of the hottest places in the US and here you are taking the cold in one of the coldest countries on the planet like you were on a holiday in Ibiza.
Of which, if you looked down long enough at the red head who grew up in said cold climate (which Glódís would argue isn't even the coldest part of iceland, far from it) , you'd see the annoyed tick in her eye as she shivers her way under your jacket, gotten far too used to the mediocre temperatures in Germany.
The walk for the most part is quieter than the initial part of the day, both you and the other couple enjoying the sights of the night side of Reykjavik.
It takes until you hear and feel the constant yawns from the woman tucked into you that you finally mention that you should head back to the house for rest, given how little sleep the older woman had before you'd left.
She half protests, having been enjoying the stroll, but then she yawns again, and your amused smirk down at her makes her roll her eyes and concede, her parents leading you back to where you'd first started the walk.
On the drive back home, a couple things catch your attention, despite your eyes fighting to shut tight for the night wrapped up in the warmth of the a/c in the car and Glódís dead asleep on your shoulder on the way home.
One, there's a lot of city activity for... you check your watch with a soft expression of surprise.. six pm.
Two, driving slowly along a high pedestrian area, something out the window catches your eye quickly, feeling a soft giddy excitement you haven't felt since you'd first come to Germany and found the horses on the farm just next to where you were currently living on the outskirts of Munich.
Trotting happily along the snow ridden paths, a fluffy white Icelandic horse, strong and beautiful in it's journey. Beside it, another one, a deep brown in colour and attached to the rest of it.
Decorative reigns and a sleigh, designed in time for the Christmas holidays, and sat in said sleigh, a happily giggling couple gazing around at the slow falling snow that had begun about half an hour into your drive back home.
It gives you an idea.
----
You awake to an alarm you hadn't even realised you'd set on your phone, still not used to the limited daylight hours, instead of the creeping sunlight through the curtains, you can still see the vague flashing of Christmas lights outside the bedroom window.
Tucked into your side, your love groans softly, tugging you closer to her in an attempt at sheltering herself from the blaring notification going off on your side of the bed.
Finally, with bleary eyes, you attack the phone with enough hand that it stops ringing and you glance at the clock.
"9:00"
In a graceful attempt at trying to get your brain cells to communicate, you think it's nine pm with how dark it is out still and ignore the alarm you'd set before bed.
Within ten minutes, there's a soft peak of glare attacking the white snow out front of the house that sparkles up through the gaps in the blinds.
A soft mumble of, "You didn't close them all the way." huffed into the skin of your jawline as she presses tired kisses against your skin.
Finally, you turn and pull yourself close enough to the blinds to close them fully, a hand drags you back into the oven warmth of the blankets, curling into your chest once more, happily taking a few more minutes of sleep.
Then, a soft knock at the bedroom door awakens you again, this time to nearly full sunlight and a head of blonde hair poking in past the frame to your affirmation to come in.
Magnea smiles softly, shaking her head at the woman buried under ten layers of blankets barely visible to the outside world, and then your half of the bed half empty of said blankets and your form curled around the wrapped up lump.
"You two best be getting up, I swear, Germany has done that woman's sleep schedule no good."
You chuckle, half asleep still, but relent, managing to wrench your sleep shirt away from the iron grip of the defender, wrapping her up a bit tighter to let her sleep longer and tug on a pair of pants to join her parents downstairs, wanting to discuss with them the idea that popped into your head last night.
"You mentioned Glódís loved horses as a child, right? Or the Icelandic ones, at least, am I right?"
Viggó nods, gesturing to a framed photo on the wall of a young strawberry blonde girl on the back of a saddled Icelandic horse, smiling gleefully, clinging to it's mane, face just about buried in it.
"Loved them, obsessed with them. We were convinced she'd become a farmer when she grew up but, well, football became an interest at a slightly older age than then. Why do you ask?"
"I think I know what I wanna do for the... you know."
Viggó slowly nods, a raised brow in your direction.
"You know I love horses myself so I figured this might work out perfectly for us. A Christmas sleigh ride. Maybe coordinated with dinner and well... a proposal."
Nodding thoughtfully, Magnea looks to her husband for a few moments and then grins.
"That sounds wonderful, she'll love it. She'd marry you no matter where but she'll definitely love this more than anything."
Humming, you take a sip of the coffee that Viggó sits down in front of you with a thank you and a grateful smile.
"I know we discussed the dinner by the coast but I just fell in love with those horses when I saw them last night, plus seeing those people, it just reminded me so much of us and-"
Soft, slow padding footsteps down the steps interrupt your sentence and your head perks up to watch the doorway, a tired looking Glódís wandering into the kitchen and you pass her your cup with a small smile and kiss to the cheek, knowing she preferred a slightly cooler coffee than straight from the pot.
"Good morning, Prinsessa."
There's a soft teasing in Magnea's voice, though it goes mostly ignored by her daughter bar the small amused eye roll.
"I'm so used to Germany now, my sleep schedule, my cold tolerance. I need to come back to Iceland before I retire, I swear."
"Sounds good to us."
A small chuckle and Viggó clinks his mug with his wife's.
You chuckle along with them.
"Considering I'm the American here, I genuinely don't understand how I have the better tolerance for the cold than you right now. I grew up in Texas, woman."
"Shush."
Poking your tongue out at her, you stand up to move towards the coffee pot, helping yourself to another cup, setting another brew on knowing this wouldn't be the last one of the morning before you all left to your business for the day.
Letting silence take over the room, you slowly drink the freshly poured beverage in your hand before it's sneakily snagged by the other woman, already having finished your previous coffee for you as is.
Luckily, you don't mind sharing your morning coffee with her if it means you get to see the cheeky, grateful smile on her face, and you get to receive the sweet peck she gives you afterward.
Her body slots against yours easily, cuddling into your side as she browses her Instagram while you glance over the local paper that's been sat on the bench since yesterday morning.
You haven't quite mastered the language, but you know enough to get by whilst going over the various little bits and pieces of the latest news in Kópavogur and Reykjavik.
The warmth in the moment has you melting into the domesticity and you find your heart racing a little as you glance down at the no longer phone occupied woman, instead noticing she's watching you.
Her eyes watching your expression, a cute little focused look on your face as you glance over the wording on the page.
The twinkle in your eye as you put each word together on the page with connection and context.
She loves how much effort you put into life with her.
Every little thing, from the language she grew up speaking to the way she enjoys her coffee to the exact temperature she takes her showers. You're unbelievably sweet to her, and she loves every bit of you for it.
Feeling her eyes on you, you turn your head in her direction with a soft smile.
"You 'kay, darlin'?"
Even that makes her heart flutter. She thought she might be used to it by now. The pet names, the little drawl. But no, here she is blushing at the littlest flirt from you.
She hums, pressing a soft peck to your lips nodding.
"M'fine. Perfect. Just thinking."
You shift, arms wrapping around the other woman's waste and she sets her cup down to not accidentally spill any.
"Thinkin' about?"
"You."
Raising a brow down at her, your hands shift to rest on her lower back, fingers intertwining to rest there.
"Yeah?"
She hums, straightening the no existent collar of your sleep shirt.
"And the fact you've been sneaky planning something for today with those two, and you've yet to tell me what we're even doing."
Her head nods to the pair sitting drinking and reading their papers at the kitchen table.
"Well that's the point ain't it? It's a secret, can't tell you til we get there."
A soft protest leaves her lips.
"But I don't even know what I need for today. What clothes do I wear? Do I need extras?"
Chuckling, you silence with another soft kiss.
"Warm clothes, preferably something comfy to walk around the snow in."
"That gives me nothing."
The soft whine from her lips elicits another chuckle from you.
"Like I said, you'll find out when we get there. Just relax for the day, we don't have anything to do for a good couple hours."
"But it'll be dark out then."
"That's fine, we can do something in the mean time if you want?"
"Do we have anything else planned?"
"Nope, whatever you wanna do."
There's a soft twitch in her brow that you know anywhere, that's her tell-tale sign to holding back laughter.
Sighing, you shake your head at her response.
"Not that. Cheeky. Good lord, your parents are right there, hush with that."
The response only makes her actually laugh.
----
It seems Glódís only wanted to spend the day with just you, thus allowing her parents to do what you needed from them and make a couple phone calls without suspicion.
Thus, you'd both taken a long walk into the city to look at some of the day shops.
You note she's eyeing up the local arcades and decide to steer her that way, cashing in some cards and spend the extra time racing between machines, both of your competitive streaks running free.
Between bragging about being able to get more kills than you in the zombie shooter, and you bragging about having better shooting skills in the basketball game, there's plenty of laughter between you and your heart skips several beats throughout the day watching her eyes light up with every win.
By the time you leave the arcade, it's with a couple arm fulls of prizes (mainly you carrying the majority at your own insistence, your girlfriend knowing you'd only stubbornly attempt to carry the lot if she argued any more).
The walk back to her childhood home takes you until well past sunset and exactly around the time her parents send you a message that you need to be back soon.
As soon as you both stumble in the door, much to the amusement of a patiently waiting Viggó and Magnea, both sat in the kitchen chatting quietly, you urge her to run the stuff upstairs and you stop by the kitchen to quickly go over everything once more.
You head upstairs, making sure to grab an extra jacket to bundle the woman and yourself up a bit more for the night weather.
"So do I get to-"
"Nope."
"Aw come on."
She's just about pleading.
"You'll like this one, promise."
The whole way there, she's chatting animatedly about some of the funnier moments of the day with her parents, so she doesn't put as much thought into the location of where the car stops as she would have.
There's a small lit pathway that leads between and over a small hill that she almost thinks she recognises but it's only when you encourage her to head up the hill first, sharing a quick grateful hug with her parents and them wishing everything goes to plan giddily.
The crest of the hill gives way to the sound of consistent crunches in the snow by occasional other people walking the area, mainly couples arm in arm, quietly chattering between them, soft giggles and huffed chuckles.
And then the occasional jingle of something she recognises to be Christmas style bells and she only realises what they belong to when she turns the corner at the bottom of the hill once again, you following closely with a small nervous smile and a new weight in your inner jacket pocket.
It's when she freezes, turning to you with a small smile like she's holding it back a little.
"Did you book us a sleigh ride?"
Nodding, you gesture towards the attendant at a small table by the building where there's a currently stationary sleigh, one horse being reigned up and the other being walked back into the stables away from the sight.
"Quite possibly. Go check it out."
She absolutely melts at the way you shuffle kick some snow, the bashful smile peaking out of your lips.
Walking back to you, she drags you in by the hand for a sweet kiss.
"I love it, let's go."
All but dragging you over to the attendant, you give them your name, and they nod, directing you over to the sleigh that's just being reigned up as you approach.
"But wait, where are Mamma and Pabbi, are they coming?"
"They had to book for later but there's a little extra after, now come on."
Easily guided up into the sleigh and handed a couple extra blankets, the horse moves out towards the tree surrounded path in the snow.
The Icelanders face is lit up the whole time, curled up into your side enjoying the ride, but gets confused when an attendant guides the sleigh off the usual path and down another less travelled path, sending you both a small wink and you do your best subtle thumbs up.
"Just that little extra I was talking about."
The path is lit nicely, and diverts down a small hillside through some trees, opening up beside a small frozen over lake with a small litup almost campsite area, chairs, tables and fairy lights strung up between the area.
The sleigh stops, the horse snorting, and huffing at the attendants waving hand to slow the sleigh.
Jumping out, you encourage the woman down into your arms,
The area is big enough that the attendant simply smiles, waves you both off and you trek down to a small table lit with the warmth of a couple campfires dotting the area, a single candle and some warm food sitting in thermos waiting for you.
A thick waterproof mat covered with a blanket lines the ground near the campfire, the warmth crackling and popping around the area.
Glódís watches in awe as you take her hand to sit her down at the table.
"Dinner is served, beautiful."
"This is so- how?"
Smiling knowingly, you nod towards the guy standing attending the horse back at the path.
"I had a favour to call in from the last time I was here. Remember that time I took off for couple hours those seven months ago for a couple days?"
Nodding slowly, she eyes you suspiciously, a small smile tugging at her lips.
"I was helping him get a newly adult horse trained up for the rides. I'd been missing home a bit, so I figured someone would need some ranch-hand experience somewhere."
Melting at the starry look in your eye as you eye up the majestic creature currently huffing and puffing as the guy gets into the sled and leads it back up the path, she grabs your cheeks with her gloved hands.
"I love you so fucking much."
You're smiling back at her so much it almost hurts, and you lean in pressing your now slightly cold lips to her mostly freezing ones, and she hums, taking in your warmth.
"Love you, too, Dream girl."
Finally, you sit down across from her at the table, popping open the steaming pots to see what looks to be some really nice stews and a flask of tea.
Humming softly at the warmth, you both tuck in, the woman across from looking at you with a soft sparkle in her eye, now, almost like she knows somethings up.
It's mildly spicy, and brings a warmth to your chest as you have a few spoonfuls.
Glódís practically melts into her chair across from you.
"I missed this. Stew in the winter is so good."
Smiling at her as you take another bite and swallow.
"Remind me to cook more when we get home."
It's not long before you're both sitting in silence and cuddled up on the blanket looking out at the slowly falling snowflakes now starting to blow in for the night.
She's curled up into your chest, just about falling asleep as she murmurs occasionally, chatting about little things.
Shifting slightly, a small crease in her brow as she almost frowns at the feeling a small object poking her through your jacket.
When you notice what's happening you nudge her to sit up.
"What's in your pocket ba-"
"Another part of this evening, actually."
Sitting back on your ankles, you reach into the inner pocket, pulling out a small object wrapped up in a square folded cloth, fiddling but not quite revealing the precious metal beneath the soft fabric.
"Gló, since the day we met, there's been something about you, something intriguing, something brilliant, something that drew me right in and had me obsessed with you. Admired you. Saw something in you that pulled every string in my heart just bein' near you."
Your girlfriend sits up, hair catching snowflakes as they fall, mild confusion crossing her expression as you talk, though it only takes seconds for her expression to melt and she's smiling up at you as you speak.
"You gave me something other than business as usual to look forward to. This beautiful, powerful, caring, strong woman leading the team with all the love and support in the world. You had me hook line n sinker. I had no chance."
"Even now, it's moments like these, I spend every moment thinkin' about how lucky I am to have you. In the quiet, peaceful moments away from the hectic life we live. I've spent my whole life chasing victory, chasin' the big life, chasin' dreams my parents or myself never thought possible because I was just a plain ol' ranch hand to be the moment I was born."
Her hand grips your non occupied one, fingers squeezing comfortingly around yours.
"Here you are, I found one of the best things to happen to me since that scout in Houston. You mean everything to me and you've given me everything I was never able to ask for out loud."
There's a shine to your eyes as you sniffle slightly.
"You make me feel so small yet so damn big. Small because I'm constantly in awe of everything you do, Big because you build me up in ways I'll never be able to wholly thank you for, you make me feel like I'm able to do anything with you there, which is why, here and now, I'm asking one thing aloud."
Shifting to one knee, letting the sides of the cotton cloth fall away from the top of the ring held between your thumb and forefinger, tears wavering on the very cusp of falling.
Looking into her deep brown eyes, sparkling in the fire light, tears brimming her own.
"You wonderful, beautiful, sweet, strong, caring, gorgeous, intelligent, fearless, breathtaking- did I mention beautiful?"
She giggles but it's half muffled as her hand moves to cover her mouth in disbelief and tears do start falling down her cold kissed cheeks.
"The Love of my life. Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir, will you let me spend the rest of our lives loving you, caring for you the way you have been for me, will you marry me?"
Waiting with baited breath, though it feels like forever, it's a second and she jumps on you, hands cupping your face to kiss you, falling back onto the blanket.
The air is sucked from your lungs, and you kiss her back just as hard, though the growing grins on both of your faces makes it hard to keep your composure.
She barely pulls back enough to give you a verbal answer, her hands tangling in your hair under your beanie.
"God yes. Hell to the yes. A thousand times over. Every life time, yes."
Your hand still clutches the ring like your life depends on it, afraid to lose it in the small tussle.
Forehead pressed tightly to hers, sucking in a shaky breath as you press the ring around and onto her finger, the platinum shining brightly, encrusted with gems along to top of the band, one sat peeking out at the top brighter than the others.
It's beautiful, it shines under the moonlight, sparkling between the two of you.
It's the best thing you've done so far.
It's perfect because you've spent so much time waiting for this and it's finally here.
It's perfect because it's Glódís.
And you wouldn't change a damn thing.
The kiss she pulls you in for as you both fall back onto the blanket, giggles, more tears and the warmth of the surrounding campfires, says all you need to know
She wouldn't change a thing either.
You, her favourite charmer.
You, the love of her life, the one who swept her off her feet and now hold her so close.
And you feel it in every kiss from that point on, too.

Kidding? (Glódís Viggósdóttir x Reader)
A/n I was inspired by recent events. Also, yes, I am still writing, I promise. Apologies that this one is a little short.
Warnings: google translated Íslenska, a little more than suggestive.
----
It seemed too easy.
Three weeks early, and the league was yours.
The title belonged to Bayern.
You knew it was much less easy than that, of course.
The time, the preparation, the training.
Every drop of blood, sweat, and tears.
But still.
It was like you blinked, and the season was coming to an end, and the silver plate in your captain's hands, glittering in the midday sun, belonged to your team.
Speaking of said captain.
You can't help the way your chest fills with pride and love at the sight of the bouncing, overjoyed, Icelandic woman.
The screams of yourself and your teammates drowned out by just the sight of her this happy and carefree.
Don't get yourself wrong.
She was as relaxed as captains could be, but it was nice seeing the weight of a whole season lift off her shoulders.
The pressure of perfection is finally released as the team clinches its second title in a row.
And your heart beats faster when she looks over to you across the bouncing huddle.
The chants of
"SUPER BAYERN SUPER BAYERN!"
Just filling you with immense pride for the woman across from you.
She approaches you as the group disperses slightly, a pep in her step and a leap into your arms as she holds your face, grin wide and bright, your hands settling under her thighs to hold her up.
"Elskan mín" (My love)
You hum, her tone soft as she presses her forehead to yours.
"Ég er svo stolt af þér." (I am so proud of you)
Her nose brushes yours as a light dusting of pink cross her face.
"You've been practising?"
"Smá" (A little)
"Guð ég elska þig." (God, I love you.)
She groans softly as she drops down from your grip, hands gripping your shoulders as she looks slightly up at you, a small peck to your cheek and she drags you over to the now forming line in front of the away section in the Bayer Leverkusen stadium.
After that, everything happens all at once.
Team photos, media duties, everyone's got a phone recording or posting, media outlets are interviewing your girlfriend and the two goal scorers for the day, swapping between camera crews seamlessly.
You're dragged into several videos and tiktoks, jumped on, beer dumped on you, occasionally receiving a smile from the strawberry blonde you call yours, in the small moments of quiet.
When you're finally settled, it's in your seat on the flight back to Munich.
Everything on the bus is chaotic, so there's no time to really process anything by the time you've been ushered onto the plane to return to Munich in time for recovery the next day.
The exhaustion is set in quick, and you're all whisked away back home once again, nearly the whole team knocking out on the flight, which surprises you given a certain someone's red bull addiction and just the overall excitement of winning the league.
The alcohol is still flowing through all of you.
The alcohol that will still be there when you arrive home and inevitably get dragged out to clubs and parties, even with the looming DFB Pokal Final.
And such happens.
You barely get time to shower and change before you've got Georgia and Sarah banging on your front door yelling at you and Glódís to hurry up.
Much to the bemusement of your captain, who'd been occupied with her back pressed to the glass wall of the shower.
All of that, to end up here, sat back, leant against a bartop, watching as Glódís dances with your teammates, the care-free air flowling freely around her.
You'd stepped away to grab another drink and a small break from the constant dancing and jumping around you'd been doing for the past twenty-four hours.
Turning back to the bar, you take a couple long swigs of your drink.
After another minute or so of just watching the passers-by in the club, you feel an arm around your shoulders, hands caressing your shoulders.
Tensing up, but then recognising the voice pressed to your ear, you're met with deep brown eyes and a very tipsy loving smile.
"Halló!"
You chuckle softly at the Nordic woman, arm wrapping around her waist as she leans on you for support.
"Hi, my love, how are you?"
Asking with an amused tone, only just feeling the buzz of the latest batch of alcohol pumping through you as it seems to have hit your girlfriend much quicker.
"I feel amazing!"
She all but shouts in your ear, and you wince slightly, even with the thumping bass in the crowded room.
"I see that!"
She hums, settling her nose into the crook of your neck for a moment, and presses a few small kisses there.
She then tugs you towards the dance floor.
"Come dance with me!"
Downing the rest of your drink, you set the glass down swiftly and let the older woman drag you off.
You watch for a moment, taking in the woman before you, moving and swaying already before you're even fully engrained into the large crowd of your dancing teammates.
She immediately pulls you in as close as possible, body pressed right to yours, hands settling on the nape of your neck, and you lean down to let your head rest on her shoulder as your body moves in time with hers.
Her fingers tangle in the loose hair at the back of your neck, nails gently scratching at your skin, leaving goosebumps in their wake.
It continues like that before she's leaning in to kiss you, her lips smashed against yours roughly and a little sloppily.
You chuckle, slowing her down a little with hands on her cheeks, kissing her for a moment longer, though she does pout as you pull away amused.
"Slow down, baby, we've got all night."
She groans before you finally let her kiss you again.
This time, it's slower, and she relaxes into your hold, which shifts to holding her hips, pulling her into you further if possible.
It's when you prod at her lips with your tongue that she grows impatient again, your teeth taking her lower lip to nip at it lightly.
She all but drags you from the club at that, much to the amusement of your teammates as you give them loud goodbyes over the music.
----
It doesn't surprise you that she's conked out the moment you're both laying under the sheets, sweat sheened and heart racing.
Her head's buried in under your chin, resting on your chest, arm thrown over your waist, and soft puffs of air getting released into your neck.
The past two days just come whirling through you all at once.
The anticipation, the win, the celebrations, the exhaustion, the continued celebrations, the fact that you got drowned in so much beer at some point, you're pretty sure you gave someone contact innebriation.
It's all a lot to go over, and knowing you still have more to do before an even remote break becomes available for you all.
Despite the exhaustion, you can't help lying awake for another hour, just to take in everything.
To let yourself relax into your girlfriend's warm embrace.
It takes but a moment to realise just how much you love her.
How you would do this over and over again just to see that smile again and again.
Just to see her this carefree and relaxed.
Just to see her dark brown eyes light up within a moment of a single whistle.
Watch as she jumps into your arms again, holds you tight, and kisses you with fervour and pure joy.
Someone once asked you if you ever saw yourself with anyone else.
Your answer?
"Are you kidding? Hell no."

Kissin' and Kickin' Charm (Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir x reader)
A/n not requested, but this woman does not get the love she deserves, so I'm making it happen.
Munich is a hell of a lot different than home.
Of course, you expected that, you aren't stupid...
Not entirely anyway.
There's a charm to the city. A much different one than the small Texan town you're used to, but it's a homely charm, if any.
A much broader, explorative city with ins and outs, beautiful buildings, and on the outskirts, something you've come to realise you feel more at home in than the city, areas with wide open flatlands and albeit manmade, forested areas.
It's definitely a big city, with many towns and a lot of diverse structuring.
It's a lot.
But it's your new home.
At least for the next three years, anyway.
You imagine yourself at home in the ranch right now.
Kicking up dirt, green grass and if you're really lucky, mud and puddles. All of that on your horse, Sweets, that you got for your tenth birthday.
In fact, you'd be there right now, at home on the ranch, if it wasn't for one teeny tiny detail.
Soccer.
For whatever reason, that was the sport your child brain picked to become your newest obsession. Except, it never stopped being that way. You lived and breathed it.
It surprised the hell out of your parents.
They'd never imagined their little, quiet, leather boots, horseback riding, ranch loving daughter kicking around a soccer ball.
But that's what you wanted.
And that's what you did in your spare time.
At first, they were adamant you didn't play it. They refused, insisting that if you wanted to get into any sport, it had to be either American football or horse riding.
But after sneaking home a ball to boot around for the umpteenth time, they relented, letting you take it on.
And take it on, you did.
It got to the point where you were severely outclassing the only all boys teams in your tiny town.
Enough so that someone visiting, who happened to have the right associations, scouted you for the youth academy in Houston.
You went up through the academy, which survived despite the rise and fall of the women's league in the US several times.
Eventually, you were contracted for the first time at eighteen.
It was a big deal.
Small town girl makes her first appearance for the big leagues and despite your parents earlier disappointment in your choice of career, they were now prouder than ever watching you take on the world.
Of course, with that growth, came your first call up to the national team at age nineteen.
That little tidbit had your Mama crying harder than the day you were born. She couldn't have been prouder to see you represent your country.
Playing amongst the likes of legends like Tobin Heath, Heather O'Reilly and even Abby Wambach for a short period, you thrived.
The immense pressure was nothing like you'd ever felt, and you loved it.
Even as reserved as you are, you love a good challenge.
With the call-up, the demand to have you increased, and eventually, at the age of twenty-four, you, rather tearfully, said goodbye to the Dash and moved to Portland to join your national teammates, Sonnett and Horan.
You've spent the past four years there, although you aren't the biggest fan of the city life. You loved the soccer fanbase.
The thorns are well loved by the people in the city and some of the greatest players you've known, to date, play for them.
Of course, playing with the greatest players of all time means you yourself catch the attention of overseas scouters.
It's not the first time it's happened.
Every year, you get calls from your manager letting you know about the offers from clubs in countries you'd never dreamed of seeing before.
That being said, you'd always turned them down, not wanting to leave your home country just yet.
Until now, that is.
When the offer from FC Bayern came through, you just knew.
You knew you had to do it, had to take that chance.
"So what do we say, Y/n?"
"... Tell I'm in if they've got a heated pitch and air-conditioning."
Had your manager chuckling at that.
Taking the time to dig into the team a bit, you end having a look at the team list.
You know the names of a few of the players there, but you'd not formally met them yet, only meeting them once or twice on the pitch.'
One name stuck out in particular though.
Of course it did, she's the captain.
Your new captain.
But there's something you admire about the Icelandic woman that immediately grabs at your soul and you end up taking the time to look up her highlights.
The perseverance, the constant drive to do better and to lift up her teammates around her.
The perfect defence with constant push and pull, defensive manoeuvres and just an overall brick wall of a woman.
The perfect captain.
So when you meet her for the first time, you're a little starstruck.
Sure, you'd done your research in advance, but actually meeting the sweetly voiced Nordic woman has you anxious in your boots beyond measure.
----
When Glódís meets the new signing, she's a little thrown off.
She knew you were American, that you were from Texas and that you most likely had a very different upbringing to the lifestyle you lived now, but the immediate southern charm that flows through your natural southern drawl has her a little flustered.
She doesn't expect the charming smile or the way you call her ma'am and warmly shake her hand, expressing, rather sheepishly, your excitement to meet her.
"It's lovely meetin' you, Ma'am. I've heard a lot about everything you've done for this club and your country. It's incredible, actually, not to sound too much like I'm kissin' up here, but really."
Your head ducks a little, cheeks reddening at your own rambling.
It's adorable, she decides.
"You talk me up a lot for someone of her own incredible skill."
Her smile widens at the way your cheeks darken further under her teasing compliment.
"Oh, I mean, that's... it's not everything I want to achieve. It feels like I've had it a little easier than a lot of the ladies I've seen and played with and known personally. I'm just excited to be here and to get to be a part of something this big. With y'all, at that."
"We're glad to have you on board with us, then. I think you'll fit right in here. The girls have been begging me to let them in the door for the past thirty minutes while you were doing the contract signing."
She gestures to the windowed door to the room, which, with a quick glance, you spot the eagerly waiting players, grinning and waving like kids at you.
It makes you feel a little more anxious now.
Such big names in German and international football and here they are, giddily waiting for you to finish your media duties and finally get to meet little old you.
It feels surreal.
When you turn back to the captain, she's already smiling warmly back at you, and after the okay from you and the management in the room, they let them in.
It's almost too much, the way they all excitedly introduce themselves despite in many cases not having to, with the way you get flustered as you know them well already, having maybe, quite possibly also looked the rest of them up in a bit more detail, purely out of nervousness.
Also, the friendliness of it all.
Normally, with new signings at Portland, it always felt super cold and competitive, definitely a lot colder in the introductions, done during training rather than in a room on the campus.
Of course, after a couple of months, the players did warm up to you, but there's always the cold air about the veterans on the team, all of them wary of you and your abilities.
Always the stress of having your position on the team ousted by the new and shiny youngins for so much as running the wrong way.
Here, in Munich, Germany, in the clubs training facility, in a meeting room, your new clubs teammates welcome you with warm open arms, an air of bubbly enthusiasm and many, many hugs rather than the cold and firm handshakes you're used to.
You recognise a few of them, particularly Magdalena, a regular opponent from Sweden and her national teammate Linda, as well as of course, the German players, the English player, Georgia and Jill Baijings, a member of the Dutch National Team you'd faced just months before at the World Cup.
Regardless of the rivalry held at the international level, they're surprisingly warm, quickly dragging you into hugs themselves.
At least, it's surprising for you.
It feels different here.
It is different here.
You find yourself leaning into it more and more, the more you chat with the team.
It goes on for an hour or so before you're dragged away for more media duties.
The girls are rather reluctant to let their new friend go, waving you goodbye with warm smiles, but small pouts as their chuckling captain ushers them from the room, leaving you with one last grin and a wink that sends heat to your cheeks and shivers down your spine.
Well.
You'll be damned.
That just happened.
----
"She's so cute! I love her accent. She's so sweet with the way she talks too."
The gushing from Giulia is quickly resounded by the other's around her.
"Right? The way she kept calling us Ma'am and Miss. It's too sweet. And her accent, it's so smooth."
"Oh my god, I know Americans aren't the most well known for being nice to listen to, but I listen to her talk all day."
"She's really good too, I've seen her highlights."
There's a few small gasps and protests from around the room.
"Oi! Syd! Why haven't you shown us yet?"
"Hold on, let me just -"
"Guys! Seriously, what the hell are you doing? I've been looking for you for ages. Put the phone away, you all have training to do."
The resounding voice in the changeroom comes from a stern looking Glódís. She's normally quite gentle toned with them, but they were taking far too long to get out on the pitch, leaving their captain wondering where the hell half her team was.
"But we want to see how good Y/n is, Syd's got the highlights here."
"No, you can see how good she is when she joins us for training after her medical assessment. Now come on, or you'll be running laps for making the rest of the team wait on you all."
There's groans of disappointment, but to their rather swift credit, they do promptly exit the changeroom and make their way to the pitch where an also stern looking Alexander Straus is waiting for them, the team's manager, followed closely by Glódís, who's small smile contradicts her rolling eyes and annoyed head shaking.
----
When you do join them, you're quickly grabbed by Glódís, the captain having unofficially ruled that any new signings get paired with her first to properly welcome them to the team, and to also get them settled into her captaincy style and to adapt them to the dynamic of the team.
It's a way to get you properly integrated into the very familial like nature of it all.
Glódís seems very much like the mother of the team. All of them best friends but very much like siblings and but a few of the other older women taking the younger one's under their wings as parental figures on their own.
You figure it as a way to keep some semblance of structure amongst the chaos of the team.
The captain, it seems, is at the head of this, ensuring all of them work well together, the team is lifted for their triumphs, and picked back up with every miscalculated cross and shot, and dragged back onto their feet after every tackle or mistimed step.
Training with Glódís is intense, a good kind of intense. You find yourself enjoying the calculated, focused nature of her defensive manoeuvring.
But it's also warm, the occasional chatter between you leaving you both laughing at the other person's jokes and small mishaps as you settle in.
Her giggles are nothing if not contagious, and you can't help the grin that grows more and more the more you spend time with her.
It doesn't go unnoticed by the others, them taking note of the way their normally much more drill oriented captain has relaxed a bit.
Of course, she's friendly, smart, smiley and very much welcoming, but she's never been this laid back during drills, especially not when she's always expecting to set precedents with the new signings.
But this was definitely different to that.
The lingering touches, hip bumps and tone of laughter are different from the ones she's always held with the rest of the team. It's a little lighter, more giggly and full of a tone they themselves hadn't heard from her.
It was startling to see, nearly.
Glódís was... flirting?
Intentional or not, they didn't know, but it was definitely a flirty tone.
Not that you could tell, bless your oblivious self. You had no idea.
You matched the tone of lightness, of course. But you weren't picking up on everything else, thinking she's just naturally like that.
A very friendly captain.
The other girls know otherwise though, and the knowing looks they share later when your cute celebration after managing to meg the brick wall of a captain has her smirking slightly at your adorableness.
One thing she notices is that the more excited you get, the more your accent comes out.
It's adorable, she realises.
----
The second training isn't much different to the first.
You don't pay it much attention outside of friendliness, but Glódís takes a quick liking to you, now having claimed you for all paired warmups and drills.
Occasionally, you get stolen away every once in a while, leaving you feeling very much like the cool kid on the block.
There's something else, though.
It's in the way the Icelander smiles at you. It's in the way she hugs you every time you score in a mini game.
You brush it off, thinking, once again, she's just being friendly.
But it's a thought that sits in the back of your mind anyway.
You feel like it's a glimmer of hope. You're not sure what for or why but it's there.
Maybe it's a sign of a great friendship blooming.
Yeah.
That's what it is.
Ever since that, it's been amazing training with the team.
Your first match is just weeks after signing.
Your first minutes come as a sub for Klara in the sixtieth minute.
And it's not too long after that that you score your first goal for the club against Leipzig.
It's a beauty too.
A long range effort after a foward pass to Pernille is rebounded back to you.
It was an accident really.
You were aiming for the head of Lea but instead it curls a little more than you intend it to and it bends into the upper right corner of the netting, far past the outstretched gloves of the Swiss keeper, Elvira Herzog.
It feels a little silly, but you can't help the blush when you feel your captain hug you super tightly and lift you up in celebration.
"Let's go, that's our girl!"
----
It's been two months with the team and two and a half living in Germany. You've got a small cottage in the outer district of Munich, with enough yard to set up small drills and other various exercises.
There's been plenty of outings for you, finding yourself socialising far more than you used to back in Portland.
You don't hate it, though.
The whole team has been nothing but sweet to you, and it seems they're already attached, each player having dragged you on outings themselves, whether it be individually or with groups of them.
You're not sure why they've taken quite such a liking, but you think it might have something to do with the fact they keep asking questions for you and you alone to answer, or just anything to get you to talk, really.
You don't mind it. Bless 'em.
They're already like family to you.
Tonight is no different when it comes to being dragged to outings and team bonding nights.
Only this time, it's to a club in central Munich, having been allowed a little freedom given they dont a match this weekend. You yourself don't drink much, but some of the other girls do, so they've let loose, of course, under the watch of their captain and a few of the older girls acting as designated drivers.
There's a small nudge to your shoulder where you're leaning against a standing table.
"Hey you."
You'd recognise that sweet voice anywhere, humming as you turn to the suddenly appeared Glódís at your side.
"Well, hello, having fun there, Sweetheart?"
Glódís' lips perk up at your words.
"Always."
She takes a glance at the cup in your hand.
"Not drinking much? You can let loose a bit tonight, I'm letting you guys off the hook for tomorrow's training. Once in a lifetime opportunity L/n."
She winks at you, and you smile at her, amused.
You shake your head when she nods towards your still half full glass of vodka and soda.
"Nah, I want to be able to get up tomorrow, training or not."
She chuckles, nodding in agreement.
"Oh, to be young and dumb enough to drink like that once upon a time."
"Don't say it like that. You're only twenty-eight."
You huff playfully.
"Please, you and I both know neither of us would make it out alive if we-"
She cuts herself off, gesturing to the very rowdy girls taking another round of shots.
"Well... you're not wrong. To being old and susceptible to hangovers."
She giggles, and you hold out your glass towards hers, meeting her in the middle with a small clink and you both take a sip, her eyes never leaving yours.
"Woah there grandma. Not too hard now."
As you go to take another sip.
Rolling your eyes affectionately, you nudge her.
Turning back towards the group, you groan watching them take another round of shots.
"Oh sweet baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph. How the hell are we gettin' them home."
She pats your head with a small chuckle.
"With a lot of herding and the good old divide and conquer, cowgirl."
Then she moves off to go find Pernille and Magda on the other side of the room.
"You know, you and Glódís would be a super adorable couple."
A pair of arms wrap around your neck as a very drunk Sarah hangs onto you for stability, hear head leaning on your shoulder, and your arm moves to hold onto her so she doesn't hit the floor.
"Sarah, little miss, it's really cute that you wanna include me, but you know I don't speak German."
"One, I'm older than you, Two, sucks to be you."
A poke to the cheek following that, as she sticks out her tongue.
"Aren't you taking German classes anyway?"
"Yeah, but doesn't mean I understand the dialect of drunken soccer player yet."
She pouts at you before grumbling and resting her head back on it's spot on your shoulder.
"What I said was, you and Glódís would make a good couple."
Your cheeks immediately flame up, and your whole body tenses, wondering if you even heard the Austrian right.
"What-"
You clear your throat softly.
"What makes you say that?"
"You're already attached at the hip like no other. I've never seen her like this with anyone else. Even her old friend, Karólína."
"She's probably just missin' her then, Sar"
"If you say so."
It's just about mumbled into your shirt and you're beginning to realise that despite the pumping music, she's starting to exhaust pretty quickly with the way she's leaning further and further into you until you have to sit her down in one of the teams half occupied booths where she settles into another teammates arms.
With a small chuckle, you leave her to it, them saying they'd be heading out soon anyways and would take her home.
As you return to your spot at the table, you can't help but think back on what she said.
Despite her inebriation, what she said held weight in your mind.
And it ends with you eyeing up the woman through the small crowd over the lip of your drink.
You catch her looking back several times, each time sheet meets your eye, you think you imagine it, but her eyes crinkle a bit, and her smile gets a little brighter.
----
"You know, if you keep looking at her like that, she might catch onto you there, Glódí."
She knows she's not being subtle, but she can't help the way her eyes drift over to you.
"I have no idea what you're talking about, Schülli."
"I think you do."
Glódís bites her lower lip as she watches you set the very drunk Sarah down by Sam and Linda (The Swedish one) before moving back to where you were, carefully watching over the girls on the dance floor.
It seems, with even just a few months with the team, you're already looking out for them like your own.
When you make eye contact with her for the fourth time in ten minutes, she smiles just that little bit more, which you quickly match.
Though, it seems, she doesn't expect the wink you send with it.
She raises a brow at you, ducking under the cover of her glass, hoping the purple hue of the lighting masks her slightly flushed cheeks.
"Wow, she has got you already, hasn't she?"
"Shut up."
The defender quickly turns away from your direction so the striker doesn't have get given any more fuel and gives her an annoyed but small shove to the shoulder, a slight frown marring her features.
"I think you should go for it, Glódí, she clearly has something for you."
"And what if she says no? Then what? Another friendship here ruined?"
Lea pauses for a minute, watching her, as her head ducks and her cheeks flare up at the admission.
"You mean... Ka"
Glódís swiftly nods, shushing the forward.
"Is that why she hasn't-"
She nods again.
The tips of her ears burn in shame under the taller German's gaze.
She hadn't meant to bring it up, but it just slipped out.
Karólína hadn't exactly reacted badly as such, but things between them haven't been the same since then, and with her being on loan now, they really spoken, if at all.
It still hurt, the look in her eyes as she tried her best to let her best friend down gently. Even then, months later, after the international break together, it still hurt.
After that, she'd sworn off dating teammates.
Hence, she hesitates to even think about pursuing anything with you.
She can't help the pang of hope she gets when you smile so brightly at her, though.
The sweet, charming, smooth tone you hold with her.
The way you hold her just a little bit longer and tighter than you do with the others.
But that's what she thought with Karólína, too.
And she was oh so wrong there.
So what's stopping her from being wrong now, right?
"That's why it can't happen, Lea. I'm not going through that again. I can't risk losing her or risk the team possibly being affected by it."
Lea smiles sympathetically at her captain, hand resting on her shoulder with a small squeeze.
It's silent between them for a few moments before the blonde speaks up again.
"Then don't worry about it. Now come on, I think it's time we get this rowdy lot home, it's nearing midnight."
Glódís sighs in appreciation and nods, looking over to the singing and dancing group of players followed by her gaze ultimately drifting over to you once more, returning the familiar warm smile she receives.
----
"Alright, come on, time for you to go to bed, little miss."
There's a small giggle from the drunkenly slurring blonde as you walk her up to her front door, your hands rifling her pockets for her keys.
"You're so cute."
Giulia pokes your cheek with one finger, and you roll your eyes, ignoring the flush creeping up your neck when you hear Glódís' muffled laughter behind you.
You'd turn to give her a glare but you're a bit preoccupied.
"And you are very inebriated."
Finally acquiring the keys from her back pocket, which she giggles again and wiggles her eyebrows at you for, earning herself another eyeroll as you drag her inside finally.
"You sure you got her there?"
The amused chuckle from the doorway makes you groan as she watches your stubborn self herd the blonde woman, currently letting herself lean completely on you, into her bedroom to at least encourage her to bed for the night.
"I am perfectly capable, thank you."
You're sure she doesn't believe that, but you believe it enough yourself to give up and let the now giggling woman help you as she observes on your masterpiece of drunk person wrangling.
Said drunk person now dead weight in your arms whining about not wanting to go to bed yet, to which you just plop her on the mattress finally and despite her protests, she's asleep in seconds.
Turning to Glódís triumphantly, you catch her amused smirk.
"Yeah yeah, real funny. I'd like to see you do that."
She shrugs, shaking her head.
"You're the one that insisted on bringing her in yourself, without help."
Grumbling, you make sure Giulia is fully on the bed before dropping her keys by the door and exiting and locking it on the way out.
Now, the both of you are stood in the darkness outside, with the last of the girls dropped home already, a collaborative effort thanks to Pernille, Magda, both Lindas and Jovana.
It's just you and her, now.
It's a cool winter night, nearing the end of the season but still cold enough that you're half shivering in front of the older woman.
You're both silent, your eyes drifting over her features lit up under the faint glow of the street lamp.
You swear, she gets even prettier every day.
The subtle but sharp line of her jaw, the way her hair almost glows under the moonlight, and the soft pink tint to her cheeks from the cold all have your heart beating a little quicker.
The way her eyes sparkle as they scan yours from across the porch.
The way her lips quirk up slightly under your gaze, brow raising just a bit.
"You okay?"
Her words snap you out of your assessment, and you hum softly, quickly recovering.
"Just a little tired, let's get on home then, Darlin?"
She nods and turns to head towards her car.
It doesn't surprise her when you jog ahead of her to open the driver side door for her, having done it every single time now since leaving the club.
"Such a gentlewoman."
Apparently, she hadn't grown tired of it yet, so that's a start.
It's a soft teasing tone that you poke your tongue out at her at before jumping in the passenger side.
On the drive out to your place outside of the city, her arm rests on the centre console, lined up next to yours as you hum along to the song on the radio, gazing out the window but also occasionally glancing over at her, scanning her side profile.
If she can feel your gaze on her, she doesn't really react.
It remains quiet for most of the drive, with the occasional hum or murmur along with the music.
It's not an awkward silence, but one you both need after tonight's activities.
Every so often, your pinkies brush, and every time they do, there's a small jolt of electricity that shoots up you arm from where they meet.
The moment you're in your own driveway, you bid her a soft and sweet thanks with a gentle nudge and give her a small wink and wave as she pulls way again.
She's thankful you're not there to hear her most likely audible heart beating in her chest the rest of the way home again.
----
Her heart racing at everything you do doesn't stop that night.
In fact, it gets worse.
It feels like everything you do has it beating beyond her rib cage.
It frustrates her, actually.
Every time she gets placed on something she needs full focus and attention for, she's been perfect for, but if you're there next to her?
Forget it.
Media duties?
Sitting next to you, she can feel your leg occasionally brush hers, arms brushing on the table every time you set it down from making gestures and whatnot.
Coach speeches during half time?
It's like you're doing it on purpose knowing she can't focus when you're standing behind her, hands resting on her shoulders, warmth radiating against her back with how close you are.
At one point, she's convinced you are doing it on purpose when she looks back and up at you, head tilted to make eye contact with you with a brow kinked up as you look down at her with a small smirk and a wink.
The more it goes, the less she knows how to function around you.
Individual post game interviews?
Even with you just moving around her doing various interviews with different journalists. A small brush of shoulders here, a hand gliding across her lower back as you move past her there.
At this rate, she feels like she's drowning in you and she's not even trying to move away.
Paired up interviews?
It feels like she's at her wits end with this one.
You're brought in together for a two-on-one interview for some football media page she can't remember the name of. There, seated on a couch, you're not even really doing anything. Except for the arm you have over the back of the lounge, resting just behind her head.
You aren't seated so close that you're pressed together. But you are close enough she can smell your perfume and it's making her head spin a little.
Hell, she feels like she should be used to hearing you speak by now, but it still has her feeling like she can't think properly with you around.
How she plans on surviving this, she doesn't know, but all she knows if she doesn't do something, she's going to lose her mind.
----
You know you shouldn't do it.
Really.
There's not even a guarantee she likes you back right?
Still, you can't help teasing her a little.
She doesn't confront you about it, she doesn't tell you to stop and as far as you can tell, she's not uncomfortable.
Your captain has always been verbal about how she's feeling when she's talking to people...
Mostly.
But she never leans away from you, only ever receiving a flushed face or an eye brow in response at most.
You can tell it's flustering her though.
By the way she's so quick to hide her reddened cheeks.
It's in the most adorable way that she rolls her eyes at your teasing comments when she scores a pretty good goal.
Small touches here and there, innocent touches. Nothing more than brushes and occasional times of brushing away grass from her face after particularly rough tackles.
The soft smile and drawl flowing from you asking how she's holding up makes it worth it.
Even though you may not be able to kiss her, her smile? Totally worth it.
----
Glódís feels like she's at her breaking point right about now.
When she's getting distracted during a game, a champions league game at that, that's a major problem.
You're both lined up for offence on a free kick when you're pressed in between her and an opposition player while she pressures the player in front.
It takes one brush of your hands on her waist and she's distracted long enough to miss jumping for the header on time.
Instead, you make it to the header, the ball flying into the back of the net as you take off running in celebration, having broken the deadlock in the final minute of stoppage.
Which turns into celebrations of the win the moment the whistle blows for full time and you're piled on for saving the teams chances at a spot in the quarter final over PSG.
The screams of the home crowd are drowned out as she waits impatiently for the end of her on field media duties.
Being the captain sucked sometimes, but it had to be done.
The moment she's free, she's jogging straight over to you and you're being dragged away off the field before you can even realise what's happening.
You had your own media duties, ones that you were currently shirking right now not being out there.
The moment you realise it's Glódís, the protests you had ready die in your throat, left with minor confusion the further down the obscure hallways she drags you until you're both in a secluded area and you're shoved into a broom closet with the door slammed shut behind both of you.
"What's goin-"
It takes all of a moment for her to grab you by the collar and slam you against the door leaving you a little winded and confused.
"Whatever it is you're doing, needs to stop. You're driving me crazy."
"What are you-"
"Don't play dumb with me, every time you so much as come near me, you brush past me, you so much as stand near me, I can't think and it's like you damn well know it, too."
It suddenly clears up there. You definitely didn't weren't doing it entirely on purpose.
Well, maybe.
Okay, it may have been a little on purpose, but you had no idea she was this affected.
"Look, I can stop if it's making you uncomfortable but Glódís... I... I kind of really like you and..."
----
Oh.
Well that changes things.
You actually like her?
You weren't just teasing her?
----
Before you can say much else, her hands cup your face and her lips are on yours in one movement.
Anticipating the action, your arms are around her in an instant, pulling her as close to you as possible, her body hot against yours despite the almost raging cold out on the pitch.
Her hands are firm on your face not letting you go for even a second, her lips fervent and sure as they move with yours.
It's only when you pull away for air that she finally relaxes into your hold for the first time.
Your hands are pressed into her lower back, hers now pressed into your shoulders as she looks slightly down at you, being just shorter than her by an inch.
The two of you just breathe for a moment, taking the moment in.
"You know. If you wanted to kiss me, all you had to was ask, Sweetheart."
She huffs.
"You're infuriating, you know that?"
There's a small guffaw on your face after that.
"What did I do?"
She almost believes the innocent look on your face.
The small upturn of your lips let's her know otherwise though.
"What didn't you do?"
And she kisses you again, slower and more tender this time, slowly pressing you back into the wall, slotting herself easily between your legs.
With your chest pressed to hers, you can finally feel the way her heart races, and she can finally feel yours, too.
There's always been something about you.
Guess it's just part of your charm.
