Hi i have a thought but do you think that gege had some sort of story set up between utahime and gojo well not as a ship (i would still ship them regardless with my delulu self but anyways) idk how to express it, i am sorry , but the way their nuanced dynamic was portrayed intially in s1 of anime or exchange event in the manga made it seem that there's sorta a deeper bond and it seem that gege scratched that idea off or something idk only gege knows lol Honestly it's wasted potential...

Same here anon, same here 😩 I actually did ask linkspooky, our resident jjk analysis writer, a similar question once, and to summarize, aside from Gojo and Utahime’s nuanced dynamic, there are glaring similarities of Utahime and Geto in how they foil Gojo, and it got me thinking if there’s more for future Utahime roles, considering Geto got his time to shine earlier JJK and his big role towards Gojo. Linkspooky even agrees that Gege seems to be building up something for Gojo and Utahime (but imo looking at it now with the current state of the manga, it seems doubtful). She furthers highlight how Uta got the strong potential to connect with Gojo if only he lets her in. I guess that’s the possible “deeper bond” that you are talking about, anon. And honestly, her response to my question really got me thinking that maybeeeee Gege HAD a plan? He’s fast pacing in JJK definitely made him scrap ideas (like that one part from vol 23 leaks where Maki was supposedly gonna go undercover within the US military invading the colonies but like that fever dream of a subplot just…disappeared). Anyways, JJK is still not finished, and I’m holding on that itty bitty tiny tiny hope that maybe Utahime gets her moment someday T—T Like I said from my last post, there’s the Gojo/Yuta vs Sukuna happening in the manga atm, and one of my itty bitty tiny tiny (delulu)hopes is that could prompt for Utahime to show up for support again :’)))

2. Besides mai and utahime, I adore Yuki and Maki. I find their goals intriguing. Also I like Megumi since I’m excited to see how his relationship w/ his sister will be tested during this culling game arc..

7. Im still not over about mai and maki. Then Nobara has been MIA for a long time now. I’m super invested with the theory of Utahime busting out Gojo from the prison realm :’D

8. Their yin and yang aesthethics. The conflict of their relationship with gojo being an annoying prick but still trusting each other. Their complementary personality like how the strength could be the other’s weakness, vice versa. It’s just..poetic.

9. I’m a multishipper sooo OTP gouta and nobamai cuz the potential(+fanfic fuel) of how they are set up is WAYYYY UP THERE.

10. That moment where gojo asked utahime to help him out about the mole despite all that teasing..it just says so much about their relationship.

11. Future scenes I want to see are any missions they were partnered together in the past or maybe future future scenes of them together kicking ass.

13. Team Kyoto all the way. I find their character designs and teamwork unique compared to Tokyo. I’d love to be in Uta-sensei’s class, I’ll prolly compliment her everyday.

hi i love your posts and as a gojohime shipper.. i feel sad that there is alot of hate towards this ship since people keep saying she hates gojo or it does not make sense due to limited reactions. What do you feel about this. i think it is just a cute fun ship .. it sadly not canon due to lack of significance and screen time utahime's character. Do you think there is alot of wasted potential with jjk even without gojohime? like with female characters like Shoko and Utahime and character arcs.

Gojo and Utahime’s dynamic

I do think that Utahime does hate Gojo because she actually have valid reasons for it BUT this does not mean that I agree with the way people shit on this part of gojohime cuz they reduce their dynamic too much on “Utahime ABHORS Gojo,” the type of abhor like wishing death on someone, but like that ignores the nuances in their dynamic as well as the individual characters themselves.

At first, Utahime and Gojo’s dynamic seems strictly professional like you know that type of situation where you hate that one person at work but you put up with them to stay “professional” and not have your personal feelings interfere with work. It makes sense because the jujutsu world is such a tight knit community that they’re just stuck with each other, and for both Teacher Gojo and Utahime, they ultimately share the goal of nurturing a better generation. That’s why Utahime puts up with him. 

However, of course, with my shipping goggles on, one thing that makes this so delish (aside from their trust on each other) is the man Gojo himself. Utahime tries so much to maintain her “dignity” and “professionalism” but Gojo just keeps on poking and annoying the fuck out of her as if like begging for her attention, and he does get a reaction from her that he seems to like(10 years of it cough cough plus he genuinely thinks that Uta's annoyance to him is their inside joke LMAO)! Comparing this “teasing” to Ijichi and Nanami, Utahime is the one that likely buttheads with him and you know what? Utahime does have valid reasons for “hating” and genuinely getting angry at Gojo. I’m gonna hold Gojo here accountable for the teasing because some fans might think that it’s just him going “haha JK!” but considering how merciless he is in insulting people “weak” and swings around his “The Strongest” title around people, Utahime has the right to be that mad and in some sense, this is like Utahime wanting Gojo to be accountable for his actions and just stop being a dickhead. Like sure, sure, it’s true that it makes sense Gojo is arrogant like that because he’s literally “The Strongest.” He’s literally untouchable.  Ijichi is intimidated by him so he’s passive with his teasing. Elders always are shitting their pants when he’s being unpredictable because they can’t stop him. Jeez, even Jogo is scared of him. His arrogance does get him somewhere though (especially when he’s beefing with higher ups to protect his students) and it allows him to get away with being an arrogant brat. 

That’s exactly why Utahime’s constant butting heads to Gojo has so much flavour compared to his interaction with others.

Utahime’s constant “respect your senior” just wants Gojo here to see her eye-to-eye, not someone who’s weak or below him but treat her like a human person because she's strong willed like that, and of fucking curse, Gojo being the complicated one here, afterall the “haha weak” teasing, did ask for her help. It’s such a whiplash that Utahime even doubted his request, and Gojo being Gojo responded with his “cuz your weak” reasoning. *Cue that iconic gjhm scene*

BUT ME? Nah, I wasn’t TOO convinced. Gojo’s a complicated guy and this is why I even did a breakdown on why his “haha weak” to Utahime questions is a weak attempt of him tryna cover his emotionally constipated ass.

Manga spoilers but ever since this manga panel dropped,

it basically confirmed that Gojo sees himself as a separate category of people because his “The Strongest” title made him believe that, and this thinking puts him in a strained relationship to most people in his life. He tries to do things alone because others are just “too weak” to support him, like apparently it’s a constant game of a “it’s a skill issue” when it comes to relying to others. He does this to himself when the dude badly needs support, like my guy, you said it yourself that you can’t reform the entire jujutsu system alone lol. 

But you know what’s crazy? His cahoots with Utahime is the closest thing to him letting others support him, especially someone he DEEMS “weak.” While yes later on, Gojo did ask Ijichi’s help for the Sukuna fight but Utahime gets a special mention here because she’s THE first. These two just stuck to each other despite being cities away. Moreover, both Utahime and Gojo are teachers who aim to nurture a better generation. They kinda understand each other in that department, ykyk. But then Gojo here isn’t really letting Utahime in because she’s supposedly “weak” and there’s the strained dynamic that surrounds it. Here’s an excellent post that isn’t mine that kinda explains this stuff too.

In other words, I do think Utahime hates Gojo because of how he treats people which is super neat to me cuz she wants him to be accountable and not get away from being an arrogant brat. Meanwhile, Gojo here, in an emotionally constipated, seems to yank her attention A LOT, and I even dare to think that even with walls that he builds, he craves for support but can't be totally upfront about it.

JJK and the wasted potential

The jjk fandom (even how divided we all are at times) can universally agree that Gege fumbled a lot of female characters. I have specifically talked about Utahime, Mai, and Nobara (And I’m working on another Utahime plus kyoto tech actually that was an ask from..months ago hehe) As for Shoko now, yes. I’ve read this one great post about her in how she goes against the “healer of the group” trope presented in shonen anime (example: Naruto’s Sakura and Bleach’s Orihime being the healer shown to have their hearts on their sleeves). I guess what I can say is there’s so much fun to explore with Shoko is her relationship with Utahime because even though she appears distant, she does in fact maintain a long term relationship with Uta. Another potential is her interacting with the students because the number of adults in the manga are literally almost next to none, I see her having the character arc of learning to open up to them and being that aunt who gets real with them why being an adult sucks over alcoholic drinks lol 

As for the overall wasted potential from jjk, ngl I go through the cycle of grief whenever I felt this about jjk like yes, I do feel like Mai and Maki’s arc are handled badly and yes, I am saddened by the lack of kyoto tech exploration in the manga. There’s Nobara’s and Yuki's death. However, when hitting the acceptance stage, I just grew to understand that jjk is a bleak ass manga (and it rightfully established itself like that from the start with Junpei’s death) and deaths are a huge part of it which I think a huge chunk of the fandom sometimes FORGETS. Second, Gege’s just not interested in exploring shit that I like. So yeah, I just came to the conclusion that Gege is Gege and the only way he actually makes me keep reading jjk (even with the many heartbreaks of wasted potential I have with it) is how he’s handling Yuuji and Megumi right now cuz I’m pretty invested in them.

Hello!! I just wanna drop by and say i enjoyed your Utahime thoughts! And i wanna share s couple of my cents if that's alright? Here we gooo

So I'll start by saying that i have nothing against anyone that ships gjhm, that's the beauty of fandom and aus and stories. however, i have tried to see the appeal in a realistically speaking sense within the context of the actual story and i just cannot. for the life of me. Like it's pretty evident that Utahime does not like Gojo, and that he's very disrespectful towards her, however, there is the trust they share because of their roles as teachers and their ideology. it's not that Utahime is an unreasonable person that would turn down an offer that would put her students in harms way right? but the thing is, I don't think the story ever set up any sublots for them to like each other you know? And I don't wanna be a killjoy when i say this altho i probably am, but rather that it's just not something author has envisioned for them?

i do think Gojo likes Utahime, but just not in a romantic sense, and this sort of dynamic is really reminiscent of that i would find in siblings, where one is endlessly annoying and the other wants to strangle the younger. i think if the story went the other way instead of the one it went now, Utahime and Gojo should cooperate and be understanding of one another as in good colleagues/friends? but given how Utahime was written and her limited appears in the story, luckluster and underwhelming sometimes, it's nearly impossible, and it's mostly on gege because all these characters have so much potential yet he only utilizes them as plot devices, in short it's not about the characters unfortunately.

and frankly i can't blame people for creating aus, in fact go ahead, it's what makes shipping so great! like i love to ship gojo too, mostly with geto or sometimes shoko heck i even like to pair him with ocs or readers too! but idk why i just can't picture him and Utahime ever being in a relationship at least within the story like context. again i don't wanna undermine anyone who loves this ship, i am all supporting but i just wanted to get out how i see it. Hope this wasn't confusing!

I see what you're coming from, Anon! People have varying preferences/opinions, and that's the beauty of it! I know Gege wouldn't draw out a romance plot line because he stated he ONLY sees it for mutamiwa. I can be delusional with gjhm BUT realistically, I’d never trust Gege EVER to handle a romance plot line cuz it will probably end tragically lol.

Imma try to speak from gojohime pov and give some insight why I personally love the ship.

I think the gjhm fans that I've seen doesn't ship them just because its ability to be canon but instead the dynamic that gjhm offers. Like you said Utahime does hate him while Gojo seems to like her, and the most funny part for me is that Gojo genuinely believes her "annoyance" is a joke between them. The way I see it, it offers this a slowburn romantic comedy potential with Gojo learning to get over himself, step up, and have this massive realization of falling for Utahime. I had this convo with my moot ola and moot said how basically Gojo just went “shit, she CAN fix me!” with Utahime (Because ya know how Utahime is everything Gojo isn’t) thus he continues to bug her xD

There's just so much to "play" with their dynamics honestly if you take them out of the canon story. You'd think that a slow burn romance would be two people earning each other's trust then doing all the slowly loving/liking part, but since the story already has set up that gjhm have each other trust because they share the goal of teachers fostering the new generation of sorcerers plus their decade of familiarity with each other, it makes you think what's more to this slowburn romcom?

Well, the way I see it, their opposing teaching beliefs can help them learn from each other and be better teachers. Gojo will be forced out of his emotionally constipated ways. Utahime's strength in her patience and ability to connect with other will be highlighted. They can be such a fun colleagues to lovers slowburn romcom type of story ya know which I honestly find hilarious xD So yehhh thats basically why I ship these two fuckers :^)

Silly little headcanon that i have is that after the baseball game in the exchange event Gojo invited utahime and her kyoto students to eat out for fun with his students and insisted to pay for meals (It's on him). Everyone had a good time. The end.

there’s this gjhm “trivia” fact that has been rotting in my brain lately relating to Uta and waka inoue (gojo’s phone wallpaper from his past arc 🤡🤡🤡) I saw it in this twit thread and idk if u read it BUT HO MY GOD IS GEGE REALLY DROPPING THIS SUPER SUBTLE HINTS??? I DUNNO WHO TO BELIEVE ANYMORE GAHHHHH—

To sum it up from the thread, model Waka Inoue and utahime actually have the same hobbies and interests (drinking beer, singing, sports!!!) Also some of their name kanjis share the same ones for Waka poetry(a Japanese poem type) and in that poetry, they used this punctuation called “Ioriten” (HMMM IORI LIKE AS IS THE UTAHIME IORI!!) and it’s used to mark the start of a song (UTAHIME’S CT YOU ALL) That manga panel revealed that gojo change into that wallpaper in 2006 which could mean that uta’s 20 y/o, legal to drink alcohol in japan. By then, It be might that Gojo found out she likes beer that much.

hiii!! i just wanted to say i really enjoyed your posts and wanted your thoughts on shipping rn in the jjk fandom. personally i’m not really a shipper when it comes to shonen fandoms but im happy that people enjoy doing so :) but lately the way people are shipping has left me feeling weird. i feel like shipping used to be “these two have a cool dynamic, making nice fanart and fics, making fun little threads about the characters and just staying in that little ships fandom/ship community” but now a lot of it is “this ship is “canon” and “confirmed” (it isn’t lol), leaving horrid comments on dedicated pages to a ship other than theirs, calling people illiterate etc’, there’s a few ships that people do this for in jjk (one definitely in particular). as someone who reads the original japanese text a lot of cultural and textual nuance is, as people say, lost in translation. i see so many people showing ‘evidence’ of the ship being ‘canon’ when in fact it’s quite a lot of mistranslations or essentially false information. what happened to shippers who knew that ‘the ship is probably not going to be canon but that’s okay we can still have fun with it’ to now full blown arguments and vitriol spouted towards another person (whether they are a non-shipper or a shipper of something else). i’ve seen people (especially gojohime shippers) get doxxed, and had horrible things said to them that i’m not even sure im allowed to spell out on here, i genuinely feel bad. i don’t see anything that’s wrong with the ship. its legal and, since im a big shoujo reader, actually falls into a lot of shoujo tropes. i’ve seen people say that utahime was 100% cheering when gojo died and things like that, i don’t understand why they turn her into some cold hearted woman ?? i don’t know, hopefully people learn that their interpretations or way of thinking isn’t going to be the same as everyone else nor is it the authority since at the end of the day it’s technically Akutami’s and whatever he writes thats what ill go with. i’m sorry this is so long <3

I don’t mind the long post, anon!! My inbox is always open for yapping, and I totally get what you mean, like since when did shipping’s entire existence hinges to is-it-gonna-be-canon olympics?? People have differing preferences!! We seriously just here to vibe, and I can’t believe it can become a toxic space of threatening each other over some totally FICTIONAL character, like seriously, why you stressing over this shit? I feel like these people online just get off from stirring up bullshit because they don’t have much of a life offline.

I also disagree with the claim of Utahime cheering Gojo’s death because that’s essentially stripping the highlighting qualities of Utahime. She’s a caring teacher who is adored by her students. I think of her having a similar reaction as Shoko throughout the Sukuna fight where she’s tots stressed out (and dunking beer in the side from all the stress lol). As for Utahime’s exact reaction to his death, my HC is that in the back of her mind she's aware there always a possibility of him dying because that’s just the line of work they are in, and this fanart actually kinda illustrates how I see Utahime reacting.

GOJO & UTAHIME WANTS TO ELABORATE

I’m always been skeptical in Gojo’s “Utahime’s too weak to be a traitor” when as Hikari said that a sorcerer should posses “that fever” to be worthy of their favors being accepted by another sorcerer. In chapter 157, Hikari defines “fever” as having the guts to oppose the system and not be the cog who goes with the flow. I’d say not only one person needs the fever but both since IT’S both sorcerers who are risking their lives, so would you really say Utahime’s too weak for that? Gojo obviously has that “fever,” and Utahime carries that “fever” too. Yes, they were times Utahime got carried away by the system when higher ups wants the Kyoto kids to kill Yuuji without her knowledge, but she still managed to work behind the same system’s back with Gojo because she cares for the students. Even Gojo The Strongest wasn’t fully aware that the higher ups were plotting to kill Yuuji in the first place, but he tries to change that(heck, he even wants to change the entire system for good).

Their relationship says a lot, especially when this line…

“When a sorcerer asks a sorcerer for a favor its understood that they’ll be putting their lives on the line.”

…dropped in the recent chapter.

Both are literally plotting behind the system’s backs, risking their lives against this system, where despite their different positions, both are still being cheated on.

They know each other’s fevers, its source, and that all came from the sense of familiarity. Their relationship roots itself with the accumulated building of unconditional trust that they’re willing to risk each other lives even if being distances apart and Gojo being a too much annoying individual to Utahime.

I was rewatching JJK to see the subtle relationship dynamics we often skip because we're busy grasping the plots and I realized alot of things. Gojo IS an arse but he knows exactly what hes doing when he says or acts a certain way. He genuinely likes and respects Shoko for her skills and the person she is. He is very fond of Nanami (he respects him alot) Yuji, Nobara and Megumi. Its obvious in his actions. He respects Yaga even if he acts impudent at times. He might not trust Meimei but he likes her guts and her honesty. Especially obvious in the panel where she talks about money being a very valuable asset where Gojo thinks she's the most practical in her theory. Giving him the idea that he can pay her to recommend his students because thats how the system works in the jujutsu society and the higherups. Gojo is very observant and careful, more than he gets credit for. His relation with Utahime goes far deeper than just teasing. As opposed to the popular opinion, they dont really hate each other. Their bond is based on trust and familiarity and respect. You dont hate someone and then seem them as the only one you can trust with something. He's clearly very fond of her and they seem to know each other very well. We see alot of hints where he actively makes efforts to tease her knowing exactly what gets her riled up. He also seems to be very attentive of her everytime shes around, probably making sure he misses nothing that he cant embarrass her later for. I can see why people may ship them. Uta trusts his judgement enough to suspect even her own students, also acknowledges his power and strength when she asks him to enter the domain before anyone. Also the scene where he calls her, it was very cleverly animated, soft background music, his fond expression gushing over his students, the effort to show us the screen and the duration of the call, Utahime dressed up casual, it showed the ease with which they communicate showing that despite the very popular teasing trope, they do understand each other and might not tease each other all the time. Is there a chance of romance? Maybe. I dont think both of them are even aware of it within themselves. But if the writers choose to take that road I wont be surprised. That being said, the dynamics of JJK are pretty interesting if we think about it. Yuji and Megumi share a very strong connection since the moment we met. Everyone including us is forced to see Yuji as the most lovable human ever predicting how harrowing it will be when the time will come when Sukuna would be resurrected. A very clever move on Gege's part. Making us fall in love with the protagonist who technically has to be executed for the antagonist to perish. And Im not emotionally ready for that because I love the guy. The fact that there is a great chance Megumi would be the one to do this, their current dynamic is very heartbreaking.

Gojo has really much a different approach in being affectionate to others, in a way of I- don’t-wanna-get-too-attached™ and I guess the teasing helps him channel that. I really appreciate that you pointed out on how he’s able to see the strengths of others even if he’s sometimes very prideful.

Same here. I’m usually skeptical with the boy teases girl trope, but, man, gojohime was really well executed for this. That trust is just there, you know. (CANON FACT: Utahime hates Gojo “most of the time” not “all that time” skskskks soo yeahhh it’s hard to believe she has deep rooted hate for him.) Despite Gojo hailing himself as The Strongest and tending to do things alone, he deadass just went to ask Utahime’s help when he consider her “weak.” Just like you said, Gojo is self-aware, and I think he knows that they’re some areas he lacks. He turned to Utahime because she has better emotional intelligence to find the traitor. Since Gojo is waaaayyyyy UP there, he utterly can’t get into the perspective of people beneath him (so he can be an arse like that and still manage to get away with it *cough* the higher-ups *cough*). This can be disadvantage that could make the jujutsu politics side do some secret plans behind him. But with Utahime who can get along with that side and is “below,” she can somehow fill in the gaps of the areas he lacks. I would say that Utahime is strong in the weak assets of Gojo, vice versa, which could mean that Gojo still has respect for her abilities. With this suggestive evidence they’re showing us, I want to believe that Gojo and Utahime had other times when they were in cahoots together ಠ_ಠ. There’s just so much potential for this ship as well as Utahime’s role in this series in playing a part in the jujutsu politics.

Yep. Gege is really evil(affectionate/derogatory) for making us invest to dynamics and characters that has a questionable endgame. In chap 65 the most overlooked thing is Meimei casually flirting with Gojo and him being too engrossed in making Utahime suffer that he pays no attention. Or he does but pretends otherwise. He enters shouting "I came to help you UTAHIME' In the spanish version its "Mi Utahime" translating to "My Utahime" which is.....amusing. then he proceeds to ask her 'You crying"? To us it seems like he's belittling her that he is but what Meimei says right after is pretty suggestive : "If I cry will you console me?" And then "I shouldnt say no to that" After Utahime tells him she isnt crying. Almost as if she's suggesting that she wouldnt hold him back if he consoles her unlike Utahime...pretty weird right? This dialogue is immediately followed by him telling her she's too strong to cry to which she laughs and goes "oh?" It gets more interesting after he tells Geto that he's picking on her too in a way. (Poor Uta can she get a break ever?) Shoko jumps in to tell her they were worried about her after she didnt call for 2 days. She doesnt say I she says we. Now if we go back, Gojo was the first to enter and say "i came to help you utahime" it almost seems too earnest" Gojo is a total arse in his school years hating on weak people but makes sure Utahime's safe and calls her weak to justify his actions. Makes you wonder. Sorry I dragged this for too long. But this scene when you break it down is actually pretty suggestive. I just wanted to put it out there. Thank you for reading.

ISTG Gojo probably has a special treatment on Utahime or something lol. The blatantly disregarding Mei’s flirting always gets me (the lengths he’ll take just to be annoying af to Utahime oml). “I came to help you, Utahime” was a bit shocker to me too cuz I was expecting him to say something more annoying or degrading like “argh, helping Utahime??? smh.”

Translators sure do ship gojohime. I saw somewhere that the jjk Brazilian dub(????) changed the “hysterics won’t win men” to “retract you claws, cutie.”

Another thing I wanna also point out on those panels is how Gojo’s grin dropped when Utahime loosened her frown and was so genuinely happy when she saw Shoko. I thought that was just so funny. He looked so offended seeing a smiling Utahime. (￣∇￣)

Why do you think was Gojo pulled towards Utahime from the time they met till now. I like their dynamic but makes me think how it would'e been born and developed. When did Gojo decide "oh wow among every other person i know I will tease this one to no end"

Hmmmm Gege revealed that it all stemmed from "reflex." Also, Gojo is really a big brat like that BUT if we try to dig deeper....

One thing that I think stands out in their dynamic is Utahime doesn't take no shit from Gojo and is reactive towards his teasing (considering out of all Gojo teases, Nanamin, Ijichi, etc).

Trying to put this perspective as a young Gojo, where it all started, I think he's drawn towards her because Utahime seem o fit the "righteous" sorcerer type that Gojo "hates” and being the true brat he is, he chose to ridicule her.

Utahime is shown to be smart with trying to figure out the curse, and just seeing from how Utahime is like the law abiding citizen of jujutsu, I'll take that she's the responsible type, too.

Then there's Gojo who simply blasted the curse up. Powering them > not working around them.

What probably interested Gojo is how such a "weak" sorcerer can still butt heads with him, The Strongest. Maybe that's the main trigger which awakened that reflex within him (Yes, Gege, I won't accept the fact that it only originated from being a punk ass of Gojo.)

I guess when Gojo grew up, being a little less bratty, maybe he learned that the “righteous” in Utahime is her strength. Now that the teasing stayed within them, he's just glad they are interacting lmao.

And to make it even more perfect…their inverted aesthetics. I just think it says a lot about their character and holy fuck im losing my mind here AHHHHHHHH—
