Headcanons related to KP and Danny Phantom being in the same universe:
Magic is already shown to exist in Kim Possible, and Master Sensei can basically astral project from Japan to Middleton whenever he wants, so ghosts aren’t that much of a stretch.
Amity Park is also such an insulated community that it’s entirely feasible that Danny would’ve never heard of Kim, Ron or their world-saving business. Or at least, it’d be sooo far out into the periphery of his awareness that he doesn’t connect the dots until a long time after meeting Ron. And since all Danny’s business takes place exclusively in Amity or the Ghost Zone (season three Does Not Exist and it Cannot Hurt You; D-Stabilized is sadly the only episode released after season 2 as a Lost Episode), Kim wouldn’t have any reason to be called anywhere near Amity either.
Global Justice and the Guys in White are probably both aware of the other’s existence, though GJ is likely just embarrassed by the GiW’s usual bordering-on-fanatical MO while GiW are of a mind that GJ gets entirely too much funding. Which... going solely off of how many entrances they have to their bases basically everywhere, miiight be fair.
Either way, they don’t talk to each other; they don’t talk about each other.
The idea that Danny, Sam and Tucker wouldn’t have heard about the Lorwardian invasion is a stretch, and they probably did hear mention of it.
After the fact had been largely resolved.
Besides, Sam and Tucker are busy trying to keep Danny from imploding under the stress of living with parents who want to dissect his alter ego while all three are attempting to live out their high school lives and hunt ghosts faster than their less competent competition can make bigger messes out of everything. Liiitle preoccupied, team Phantom.
Though one of the bonus members of team Phantom is aware of the KP & RS crime fighting team, and that’s Danielle; having no real ID or any documentation or a place to call her own, she checks in with Danny and the crew as regularly as she can but doesn’t have quite the same sense of responsibility or loyalty to Amity Park.
She knows. She probably even met Ron and fireworks went off in her head; because duh, Kim Possible’s boyfriend.
She just didn’t say anything because I assumed you already knew? Doesn’t everybody know who they are?
Any butt.

GJ and ZZH Updates — June 4-10
<<< previous week || all posts || following week >>>
This is part of a weekly series collecting updates from and relating to Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan.
This post is not wholly comprehensive and is intended as an overview, links provided lead to further details. Dates are in accordance with China Standard Time, the organization is chronological. My own biases on some things are reflected here. Anything I include that is not concretely known is indicated as such, and you’re welcome to do your own research and draw your own conclusions as you see fit. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or additions. :)
[Glossary of names and terms] [Masterlist of my posts about the situation with Zhang Zhehan]
06-04 → Nothing of note.
06-05 → Flora made a tweet showing that On Aura Tout Vu, the design company that posted the previous week about making one of the outfits at the Zhang Sanjian concerts (“for the amazing new collaboration ... for Zhang Zhehan”), had posted photos of the same outfit almost a year ago being worn by a showgirl. Their older posts (plural) are still up. In fact, the oldest post they have of the outfit is from March 2020, advertising it as part of their summer collection for that year. The black suit that On Aura Tout Vu also posted about was likewise a re-embellished older piece and the jewelry they’re advertising as “custom-made” for him is also from 2020.
→ 361° posted a video using Gong Jun’s travel photos to tease the video they would post the following day.
06-06 → Gong Jun posted nine scenery photos to Weibo. Caption: “The heart is steady, the results are good, and the seven-coloured clouds* are for everyone, jiayou!” The caption is presumably because it was national exam day. *symbol of good fortune Fan Observation: The post as a whole, especially the photos, are very similar in style to the äžæƒłćŒżć account (see the bottom of this post). The previous day, the account had been restricted by Zhihu and required to change its username; the specific reason is not known at the time of this post, but it was noted that another account with “挿損” in its username had the same happen.
→ 361° posted a video celebrating the second anniversary of their endorsement with Gong Jun.
→ The Instagram posted a video of “Zhang Zhehan” playing guitar.
→ #ZhangSanjian trended on Twitter.
06-07 → #TheRealZhangZhehan trended on Twitter.
→ A post was made by Sina TV announcing the passing of Ma Tao, Word of Honor’s producer, reportedly from liver cancer. A number of other staff who had worked on the show made posts in mourning.
Tumblr media
#Word of Honor producer Ma Tao passed away# and #Word of Honor# got on Weibo’s entertainment hotsearch, Word of Honor and Ma-jie trended on Twitter.
→ The Instagram posted three photos of “Ma Tao” and “Zhang Zhehan” because these people have no fucking souls.  Fan Observations: None of the photos are real, just fyi—obvious signs of photoshopping and “Ma Tao’s” teeth are wrong. Zhang Sanjian’s hair in the photos is the same as in the 2022-05-04 divorce video, so it’s suspected that these were prepared last year but weren’t used for some reason (likely because Ma-jie would have dragged their asses through the mud for trying to use her in their scam.)
→ The Rising with the Wind Weibo account posted a group promotional image featuring Gong Jun.
06-08 → Lexus posted a fake chatlog with Ma Tao in his Instagram story “in mourning” that claimed Zhang Zhehan had stayed with her while registering his case in 2021. Lexus is reportedly in Japan right now if anyone wants to go punch him in the gut.
06-09 → Tiffany & Co. announced a jewelry line using jellyfish imagery and whalers embarrassed themselves trying to claim that one of the most famous luxury brands in the world is trying to appeal to haizhes. The jellyfish brooch at the centre of the line was designed in 1967.
→ 361° posted three photo ads featuring Gong Jun.
→ A private wake was held for Ma Tao’s funeral, attended by Gong Jun. It is rumored that Zhang Zhehan was also in attendance, but this has not been confirmed in any capacity.
→ Zhang Sanjian paraded around the Shanghai airport in black, nominally “on the way to the wake,” because the scam gang have to make every moment about him. Fan Observation: It’s reported that the wake was held in the morning, while this Zhang Sanjian appearance was in the afternoon. The scam gang either didn’t know the time it was to be held at or they were trying to avoid the possibility of running into Gong Jun, who flew back to Haikou via the same airport after the wake.
6-10 Addition 06-14: The Singaporean paper Shin Min Daily News published an “email interview” article about Zhang Zhehan, taking the Zhang Sanjian scam and concerts as legitimate, with the first line of the article saying that Zhang Zhehan visited Yasukuni Shrine. This article was celebrated by whalers, with some blatantly omitting this first line—when confronted about this, they claimed it was no big deal for the very smears at the centre of 813 to be repeated here. The article also went on to say that Zhang Sanjian was “grateful for the opportunity” that his cancellation gave him.
→ Gong Jun posted a promotional video for 361°. (1129 kadian) Caption: “Walk in love, act in life, and protect beauty with green life. Be a green guardian with @ 361 Degrees” The same was also posted by 361° ten minutes later along with the catalogue of their new line.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted a video of behind the scenes footage from his recent endorsement ads. Caption: “Happy weekend! A wave of @ Gong Jun Simon's small daily work, gaining a moment of indulgence in a hurry~” BGM is Babe by Evenings.
→ QuelleVous tweeted a thread about Xiao Chu, Word of Honor’s scriptwriter, explaining that her husband has connections to 6Rooms (a livestreaming platform tied to CAPA) and that she has not had a script project since Word of Honor due to a contract dispute at the company she works for.
→ Fresh posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.
Additional Reading:  → N/A

My next legal considerations. Note: they are based on the regulations in force in my country and in Europe. I can assume the rest of the world is similar. I know that GJ has filed a lawsuit against the infringement of his good name on the Internet. He had the choice of a civil or criminal case. Why did he choose a civil case. Because it's easier to prove. GJ, as a plaintiff, was only required to provide the court with evidence of harassment with false information, and the onus is on the person who did so to prove that what he wrote on the internet is true. And if not, he will have to face the consequences of his actions. Such cases in my country are called cases of infringement of personal rights. If the case is won, in addition to an apology and correction of false information (the text of the apology is prepared by the party bringing the case), an appropriate sum is awarded for social purposes (this is the second demand for compensation for defamation) - it can be a foundation dealing with animals, sick children. The claimant is not entitled to this, he or she is only reimbursed for the costs of the case (trial fee, attorney's fees). Not sure if it's the same in CN, I can assume it's similar. If it is as I wrote, the accusation that GJ will demand money for himself will not be true. But that's just my guess. A similar case, after winning a criminal case, can be started by ZZH against people spreading slander about him on the Internet. I also want to write about cyberbullying here. For now, only based on the regulations in force in Europe. I do not know how it is in Asia, I would be grateful to the local lawyers for information about what it actually looks like. I know that cybercrime is regulated in India. In Europe, we have a convention of November 23, 2001. about cybercrime. Countries that have signed it are bound to abide by it. Other countries are bound by the Convention: Japan, Canada, USA, Australia. I have yet to double check that the identity theft case has been resolved. I think so. But I will write about this convention and its effects tomorrow. Unless nobody cares.

My Top 10 ICE-powered JDM Executive Midsize FF Sedans
The third-generation Mazda 6 will go down in history as the last JDM D-Segment front-wheel-drive saloon to be powered by internal combustion and with production ending this April, this race is now sadly extinct due to the never-ending rise of crossovers and SUVs.
Tumblr media
As this species is set to be extinct in the springtime, it's time for me to jot down my top 10 JDM executive midsize front-wheel-drive sedans powered by internal combustion.
10) Sixth-generation Toyota Camry - At the end of 1996, the Camry Gracia was launched in sedan and estate variants. The Gracia is the luxury alternative to the Camry and it served as the replacement for both the Camry Prominent and the US-built Scepter. With the fifth-generation Camry's production ending in the summer of 1998, the Camry Gracia took its place and it was known as the sixth-generation Camry when it was facelifted in 1999. This is the last Camry to have a V6 engine offered in the Japanese market. A year later, Daihatsu sold the Toyota Camry as the Altis.
9) Suzuki Kizashi - Originally meant to be a US-exclusive model, the Suzuki Kizashi went on sale in Japan in the fall of 2009. With styling inspired by the three concepts, the Kizashi is powered by a 2.4L petrol engine producing 188PS while mated to a CVT with Manual Mode. The Kizashi is the last Suzuki sedan offered in Japan and production ended in 2015.
8) Seventh-generation Honda Accord - Launched in 2002, the seventh-generation Honda Accord features a sleeker design compared to its predecessor as well as improved dynamics. It was the first to feature Honda's Internavi Premium Club service, providing drivers the fastest route to their target destination. Powering the seventh-generation Accord is a choice of a 2.0L and 2.4L mated to a 5-speed AT. The Euro-R variant is powered by a 220PS 2.0L engine mated only with a 6-speed MT. This generation marked the last time to feature the Euro-R grade. The seventh-generation Accord was exported in Europe, in the US as the Acura TSX, and in Oceania as the Honda Accord Euro.
7) Nissan Cefiro A32 - Launched in 1994, the Nissan Cefiro A32 eschews its predecessor's FR layout in favor of a stable FF layout with comfortable driving in mind. Powering the Cefiro A32 is a choice of three VQ V6 petrol engines from 2.0L, 2.5L, to 3.5L. All are mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT.
6) Eighth-generation Mitsubishi Galant - Launched in late summer 1996, the eighth and final generation Mitsubishi Galant is no doubt one of the best-looking executive midsize saloons at that time with the sporty 4WD VR-4 variant the most aggressive-looking. It even spawned an Aspire twin two years later. The eighth-generation Galant is the first production car to be powered by a Gasoline Direct Injection engine for improved performance and fuel economy. It won the 1996 Japan Car of the Year award.
5) Sixth-generation Honda Accord - Launched in September 1997, the sixth-generation Honda Accord incorporates the Honda DNA through this D-segment executive midsize saloon, hence the car's slogan. Joining alongside the sixth-generation Accord is its Torneo twin and both of them are powered by a choice of 1.8L and 2.0L VTEC engines. In 2000, both the sixth-generation Accord and the Torneo received a minor change and gained the sporty Euro R variant powered by a 2.2L VTEC engine mated exclusively with a 5-speed MT.
4) Honda Inspire CP3 - Debuted at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, the CP3 Honda Inspire is powered by a J35A 3.5L i-VTEC PGM+FI V6 engine that produces a power output of 280PS and 342NM of torque. This engine comes with Variable Cylinder Management that shuts half of its cylinders. Coupled with the 5-speed AT, it has a fuel economy of 9.9km/L based on Japan’s 10-15 Mode standards. 9.6km/L based on JC08 Mode standards. Production ended in 2012, making it the last pure V6-powered Honda saloon ever made.
3) MAZDA6 (GJ) - Launched in 2012, the third-generation Mazda6, formerly known as the Atenza, is the first Mazda saloon to be powered by the SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine mated to a six-speed SKYACTIV-MT, a first for a JDM Mazda in the SKYACTIV era. In addition, the Mazda6 is powered by a 2.0L SKYACTIV-G engine and the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine with Dynamic Pressure Turbo System. The Mazda6 was facelifted twice with the recent one in 2019 when Mazda decided to drop the Atenza naming in favor of the Mazda6 naming.
2) Nissan Teana J32 - Launched in 2008, the second-generation Nissan Teana is powered by a choice of a 2.5L and a 3.5L V6 engine mated to an XTRONIC CVT. Carrying over from the first-generation model, the Teana J32 comes with a signature front ottoman seat on the passenger side.
1) Nissan Teana J31 - Launched in 2003 as the replacement for the Cefiro, the Teana is Nissan's luxury premium midsize sedan that slots between the Skyline and the Cedric/Gloria sedans. While the styling is rather contemporary for a luxury sedan, the Teana's turning point is its luxurious interior which is about as cozy as the sofas and chairs you bought from the IKEA store. The Teana J31 is sold in South Korea as the Renault Samsung SM5 and SM7, and in other countries as the Renault Safrane.
It's a sad day in the world of motoring as there will be no more internal combustion-powered front-wheel-drive JDM executive midsize saloons on sale in the Land of the Rising Sun. If you want an executive midsize FF JDM saloon, you'll be going to make do with the hybrid ones. Actually, there are only two; the Lexus ES and the upcoming Honda Accord e:HEV.
Domo arigato, ICE JDM FF executive midsize sedans. They have served their purposes and now they're officially extinct because of SUVs. Although they're gone, they'll be never forgotten.

GJ and ZZH Updates — February 5-11 (nice)
02-05 → Gong Jun’s studio posted a photo of him for the Lantern Festival. Caption: “The full moon is in the sky and joy is in full swing, and the Lantern Festival will show the reunion of [The Bunny Gives the Year] Boss @ Gong Jun Simon wishes everyone a happy Lantern Festival!”
→ Kangshifu posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.
→ Gong Jun posted a vlog from visiting Universal Studios on 01-13. Caption: “The first Vlog in 2023, just play without talking! Happy Lantern Festival everyone!” [subbed video] BGM is Happy by Pharrell Williams, Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter, the Jurassic Park theme song, Darlin’ (I Think About You) by Delegation, and Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas.
→ The Instagram posted a video of “Zhang Zhehan” and “Xiao Yu” shopping for shoes.
02-06 → Nothing of note.
02-07 → Bluebird posted an exposĂ© of an email sent by Aja Romano last June in response to an article published by The China Story about Zhang Zhehan, in which Romano falsely claimed that Zhang Zhehan was cancelled by the government, that CAPA is a government organization, that Zhang Zhehan has family ties to Japan, and that the general public were in support of his cancellation. Despite her claims that she found this through “research”, all of it is blatant misinformation that has by now been disproven multiple times, including by the NRTA and MCT, CAPA, and Zhang Zhehan himself. (For those who aren’t aware or don’t remember, Romano is the “journalist” who wrote the Vox article calling those of us talking about the deepfakes conspiracy theorists. They’ve also had a reputation of being a fandom shit-stirrer since the early 2000s.) Followups: [1] [2] [3]
→ Flora posted an exposĂ© about edits made to Zhang Zhehan’s Wikipedia page since 813 by the user Oncamera. These edits have removed cited clarifications about 813 while adding and maintaining smears citing tabloids, as well as maintaining claims of the Instagram and stolen songs’ validity. Oncamera is known of and celebrated by whalers for her support of Zhang Sanjian. Followups: [1] [2] [3]
02-08 → #ZhangZhehan trended on Twitter.
→ Continuing from the previous day, whalers on Twitter defended Aja Romano and Oncamera, refusing to respond when questioned about why they’re supporting people who have actively contributed to slander against Zhang Zhehan.
→ BAZAAR’s director posted an unused photo from Gong Jun’s recent shoot with them.
→ New airport photos of “Zhang Zhehan” were spread, originating from Lao Ahyi who is now under the username 侀äžČć—æŻkk. Fan Observations: The photos show “Zhang Zhehan” alone at the terminal exit (one photo has a single person near him) despite air travel in the last month averaging at roughly 660 people at the Shanghai Pudong airport per hour, not including staff.
02-09 → #ZhangZhehan continued to trend on Twitter.
→ Gong Jun posted a commercial for Hogan. This was reposted by both Hogan and his studio. Hogan also posted four new photo ads of Gong Jun.  (1129 kadian for all of these, they were speedy.) The first of these photos was used as a Weibo app opening screen and as Hogan’s Weibo header. Fan Observation: The first line of Gong Jun’s caption, “Modern reboot, retro revival.”, seems to be his own addition rather than a set part of the ad campaign. “Retro” (ć€ć€) here is written the same as in the title for Zhang Zhehan’s cancelled drama Retro Detective. There have recently been rumors of this drama doing reshoots—QuelleVous checked and the NRTA’s Beijing branch has not given any permits to do so, the original permit expired in November; the original casting company has no affiliations with such a project. In other words, if reshoots ARE happening, it is not on the original set and the associated persons are sketchy, ie. these rumors are likely (possibly elaborate) fabrication.
Tumblr media
→ Kangshifu posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun. Fan Observation: The illustration includes a girl in an orange sweater and a bucket hat, a man with a buzzcut, a baseball cap, glasses, and a sweater with a star, and a man in green with hair similar to Gong Jun’s. The caption is about friendship. [x]
→ The brand’s VIP fashion show that was originally scheduled for 2022-11-23 (the one that required a purchase of 20k RMB and a submission of personal identification information) was announced to be rescheduled to 02-14, now also stipulating that electronic devices with recording functions cannot be brought inside the venue, and forbidding “forms of support” such as banners and light signs both inside and out. Additional information:   -  Some resellers refused to sell tickets, not wanting to damage their reputations due to not knowing if a fake Zhang Zhehan would show up (or not even a fake).  -  Some resellers who DID choose to sell them stipulated to potential buyers that they could not confirm if this was “the Zhang Zhehan who was in a CP with Gong Jun.” Prices also seem to have significantly lowered, with one reseller offering them for 3000 RMB.  -  The above suggests that members of the general public (ie. those not following the scam) can still tell that the whole situation is fishy and have doubts about if Zhang Zhehan is really involved.   -  I haven’t seen it myself, but there’s apparently a chatlog with the police regarding the event. It’s possible that an excuse is being sought to cancel it.   -  Chinese CPFs seem pretty much unfazed by this whole thing, this is old hat by now. [ibid.]
→ Hogan tweeted the earlier commercial and new photo ads [1] [2].
→ Gong Jun posted the Hogan photos to his Instagram. Caption: “The new look is beautiful”
02-10 → Hello Saturday’s Weibo posted three douyins [1] [2] [3] featuring Gong Jun and his Rising with the Wind co-star Zhong Chuxi for the episode that would air the following day.
02-11 → Hello Saturday’s Weibo posted a still from the episode.
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted thirteen photos of Gong Jun from the day of Hello Saturday’s filming (2022-12-28). Caption: “Looking far away in the mist, there is a deep and long silence. Today at 19:30, boss @ Gong Jun Simon’s character Xu Si, a surprise investor, is online! #ć†ŻäżŠäœ ć„œSaturday# We’ll see you soon 😎”
→ Hello Saturday’s Weibo posted a teaser of the episode.
→ Hogan posted a behind the scenes video (flashing lights cw) and photos (1129 kadian for both) from their new ad campaign with Gong Jun. They also later tweeted four of the photos.
→ Wonderland magazine posted pictures of the AI persona Jifeng; four of these use unreleased photos from their 2022-11-28 photoshoot with him, two of which are solo shots. (1129 kadian) They also posted a video of Jifeng with a couple seconds’ footage of Gong Jun. [Here] are just the solo photos and [here] is a cut of just Gong Jun’s shots in the video, for fellow Jifeng dislikers. Fan Observation: The video includes jellyfish for a brief moment, as well as broken mirror imagery.
→ Kangshifu posted a photo ad featuring Gong Jun.
→  Another promotional douyin for the Hello Saturday episode was posted.
→ The Instagram posted a selfie of “Zhang Zhehan” and pictures of guitar chords and Kele.
→ The Hello Saturday episode aired. [Full episode (no subs)] [GJ cut] [written summary with clips] Addition 02-18: In behind the scenes footage released of the episode, Gong Jun’s Rising with the Wind costar Zhong Chuxi asked him for advice about a knee injury she sustained while filming the drama. His first response was to ask if she had hemarthrosis, a symptom that Zhang Zhehan has had with his knee.
Tumblr media
→ Gong Jun’s studio posted nine photos of him from the episode. Caption: “Xu Si's debut, have fun! Boss @ Gong Jun Simon reminds everyone that investment needs to be cautious!”
Additional Reading: → Flora’s daily fan news → Starting at the end of last month, whalers started buying billboards in Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Canada advertising the Deep Blue album. The images for these appear to have been directly supplied by those releasing the songs. [photos of one] → Works for the LLD Bang are still being revealed!

I came to BL via the Thai oeuvre and as such I initially thought one of BL’s defining features was a guaranteed “happy ever after,” like modern day romance novels. It remains one of the things I personally look for and rate highly in BL. But it actually isn’t a requirement of the genre.
There are a few offerings out there that even HEA obsessed self, still thinks are satisfying and worth watching, even though they don’t include a strictly happy ending.
Top 10 Non HEA BLs
Tumblr media
1. Ingredients the series (Thailand) - the characters end up a couple but apart, since one of them is going away to pursue his dreams, it’s understood (but not depicted) that they will eventually be reunited.
Tumblr media
2. Addicted Heroin (China) - the show was censored mid run so it remains unfinished. If you stop watching after the main sex scene in the final episode it makes for a pretty solid HFN ending. If you don’t stop, it just sets up the next plot point that never happened.

3. 2 Moons 2 (Thailand) - is kind of a must watch for Thai BL because the original source material is one of the most popular BL novels in Thailand and is responsible for many Thai BL tropes (like pink milk and sharing an umbrella). The main couple PhaYo is the least interesting. They get together, only to then end on a cliff hanger, which is why 2M2 is on this list. However, no one watches for PhaYo. We all watch for ForthBeam and MingKit and both of these side couples get HEAs.
Tumblr media
4. Gen Y the series (Thailand) - a bloated drunken mess of a show but the main couple MarkKit is wonderful, full of super saccharine cheese while simultaneously poking fun at Thai BL tropes. It’s the opposite of 2 Moons 2 in that the main couple ends up HEA but all the side couples are left up in the air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. HIStory 3: Trapped (Taiwan) - is a great mafia action romance, and while the main couple ends up together, they’re anticipating forced separation, so it’s HFN. The fantastic side couple ends up HEA, though.
Tumblr media
6. Silhouette of Your Voice AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru (Japan) - a beautiful sweet slow burn romance between a grumpy seme who is going deaf and the loud sunshine uke who is one of the only people he can still hear. The ending is amorphous, we aren’t sure if they will get together or not.
Tumblr media
7. My Tee AKA Cause You’re My Boy (Thailand) - such a confusing show told partly in flashbacks but without distinguishing those flashbacks so you’re never sure exactly what's going on. The story and directing are bonkers but the characters are awkwardly endearing. The main couple ends up HFN but at medical risk. This is probably only worth watching if you are a fan of the early Thai BL high school shows (Love Sick, Make it Right) and the pulps that followed them. What’s good is that these two were given a follow up Our Skyy with an HEA.
Tumblr media
8. My Dear Loser: Edge of 17 (Thailand) - the BL arc is for a side couple but they are a GREAT side couple. If you slogged through Puppy Honey for OffGun or Kiss Me Again for TayNew then you can do MDL17 for PluemChimon. This is one of the better high school offerings. The main couple (het) ends up HEA but our boys end up HFN. However, these characters were also given a follow up Our Skyy that solved everything.
Tumblr media
9. HIStory: Stay Away from Me (Taiwan) - technically speaking this one is HEA, it’s just that they don’t really end on a kiss, but more platonically together and since this is a stepbrother trope that make the whole thing a bit amorphous. Of all the HIStory series, many of which could have done with second seasons, I really wish this one was the one that got one.
Tumblr media
10. Advance Bravely (China) - the second major victim of censoring after Addicted, if you love WoH you owe it to yourself to watch Gong Jun playing the spoiled rich kid sunshine uke role against an utra buff hot bodyguard grumpy seme. If it helps, GJ still has his fuck-off fan. The ending is straight up WEIRD but basically HFN?
Tumblr media
New 2023 addition:
I Feel You Linger in the Air (Thai ) - I truly loved this time travel romance. IFYLITA is an exquisite BL, from filming techniques to narrative framework (much like Until We Meet Again). Steeped in history and family drama it edges into lakorn (but no as much as To Sir With Love and with way less scenery chewing). This is an elegant and classy BL... from Thailand which normally doesn't even try for classy. The main couple (both as a pair and individuals) were excellent, particularly Bright (Yai) whose eye-work acting style is a personal favorite of mine. Pity about the ending. Oh it wasn’t that sad but it wasn’t good either. This show should easily have earned a 10 from me except that it fumbled the
 erm
 balls. Argh. Whatever. More here.
(I do not include shows like Love Sick or Make it Right where the second season solved the non HEA of the first.)

3 BLs That Will Destroy You
These are fantastic BLs that have extremely tragic endings. Each one starts out so perfectly gloriously BL that if you end up watching them to their conclusion they might actually wreck your psyche.
Tumblr media
1. HIStory 3: Make Our Day’s Count (Taiwan) - of course this is number one on my list. Basically it’s a pitch perfect BL with all the best tropes, high heat, and great chemistry between two sets of couples.
But the main couple!
The main couple features BL’s premier hot himbo jock who falls so gloriously ridiculously goofy in love with the quiet timid broken nerd he once bullied, that it almost hurts to watch him yearn that earnestly. The couple battles the demands of school, family, and society, rising above it all and moving in together into domestic bliss and then... the nerd is killed in a car accident.
AND THEN H3 graces us with two additional episodes of watching our beloved himbo SUFFER FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. I can hardly bare to type about it.
Tumblr media
2. Forbidden Love (Japan) - gah it’s so pretty. It’s the servant who grew up in the sinister mafia-esk family trope, which I love. It’s a killer pairing of spoiled, rich, loose-cannon seme madly in love with the older, somber, moral-compass uke. It’s a second chance at love since the uke has been abroad and the seme has been waiting and spiraling and pining.
It goes right up to the edge of “yes they’re going make it!” and it’s hot. And then... it dives deep into murder and incest.
MUST YOU JAPAN!?
Tumblr media
3. The Effect (Thailand) - betcha thought Thailand wouldn’t make this section, but once upon a time even they dabbled in the darker side of BL. The Effect is Thailand’s commentary on the dark BL that forms its yaoi heritage. It’s also kind of an acknowledgment as to why Thai BL is so different from its roots.
Adorable uke is in love with the hottest most popular guy on campus. That guy is a typical ultra-controlling seme, and once he decides to love the uke back, he wants full ownership. The uke’s reticence with regards to sex and the seme’s internalized homophobia and terror about coming out combine into the worst possible outcome: physical violence, rape, self harm, and eventual suicide.
Basically it’s Thailand saying: look if we depict the type of possessive unhealthy relationship almost always shown in BL in a realistic light, this is the real world result. It’s almost worth watching because of that. It’s fighting the tropes we love with the reality of obsessive love, and it hurts but at least it’s honest.

HEA in BL
“HEA is guaranteed” is an audience contract that comes to romantic cinema out of Western romance literary traditions. Basically the cinematographic version of a “happily ever after” is to end the narrative arc by visually depicting a kiss/hug, an engagement, a wedding, sex, or domestic bliss for the main couple (AKA Acts of Unity).
A guaranteed HEA is actually not a defining feature of BL on the whole. Although Thai and Korean stuff tends to lean that way.
Yaoi actually has more in common with the Western erotica genre than with traditional Western romances. That’s because in origin yaoi manga, the objective was the physical relationship of the main characters, not necessarily an emotional/romantic connection. Since BL comes out of yaoi, a great deal of it, especially the early stuff from Japan and China, is high heat but does not end happily.
Up until about 2017 when Thailand started to dominate the market, fully half of all BL (and prior to that even higher percentages) did not end happily.
Tumblr media
Types of Endings - TERMS
HEA - happy ever after (as in “they all lived happily every after”) characters end up together and happy in the Disney fairytale romance sense of the concept
HFN - happy for now, characters end up together but there’s still tension or looming threat to their unity
amorphous - things are left up in the air either intentionally (common in indie and art films) or unintentionally, because the show did not get a second season/installment, was censored, or lost funding/cast
tragic - one or both characters die by suicide, murder, or accidental death (AKA kill the gay)

July 6, 2021 - ZZH and GJ's studios announced that they will be taking legal action against certain internet antis, including each other's toxic fans. ZZH's studio announced at noon, and GJ's studio a few hours later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ZZH's lawsuit is focusing on antis accusing him of disloyalty to his country. It was brought about by a fanwar between his and GJ's solo fans, which intensified to the point that politics was brought in. Antis brought up an old incident where ZZH uploaded a vacation picture that had a car in the background with a small image of Japan's Rising Sun flag (from WW2) which he likely didn't even realize, and which he soon deleted anyway.
GJ's lawsuit seems to focus more on creating a healthier online environment for the sake of his mental health. His studio is also appealing to his fans to stop hurling abuse at each other and at the other party, and to stop all other toxic fandom behaviour.
ZZH is suing two fans from other fandoms, a Xiao Zhan fan and some GJ solo fans.
GJ is suing three ZZH solo fans and one who is an anti of both him and ZZH.
The timing and order in which the lawsuits were announced is interesting, because although GJ's was announced later, his case's progress is more advanced than ZZH's. His lawyers have already gathered evidence and the case is already being reviewed, while ZZH's is very new and they are still in the process of gathering evidence. If this was planned, then it was quite clever, because then people can't accuse GJ of "retaliating" against ZZH's lawsuit, because his case was actually filed earlier despite being announced later.
Anyhow, I'm pretty happy with this. And with GJ especially, because he does have a messy fanbase and I'm glad he's not the type of c-ent celeb that tolerates his fans. He's a responsible guy. And also one of the people he's suing is a well-known ZZH anti (she's an anti of both of them but is more known for her ZZH hate) I've seen her posts before and she deserves to have GJ going after her dumb ass.
Bonus: The hometown in-laws showing their support in their usual chaotic way. JiangXi's Supreme Court (from ZZH's hometown) posted about the new internet laws on GJ's lawsuit tag while Chengdu's Intermediate Court (from GJ's hometown) posted theirs on ZZH's supertopic. The brainrot is truly strong with this one. Bless.
