It me! Hello and welcome - hope you enjoy your stay 💖
Current fixation: FNAF (Sun and Moon in particular but I love all of the characters)
Don’t be shy, I joined this fandom to share the love and interactions make my day!
(I can also be found on Twitter and Insta with the same handle but I’m a little more active on here for the most part!)
Note: If you sent me an ask and I didn’t respond I may (a) not have seen it, (b) have forgotten to say something (and/or now a lot of time has passed since the ask was sent), (c) be hoping to draw something for it and possibly got waylaid (yes even months later sometimes), or (d) I am hanging it up in my inbox like a beloved fridge drawing! <3
I shouldn’t have to say this and yet here we are: Anon hate will be blocked on sight. If you’ve got a problem or a hot take you won’t even put your name behind, you’re better off hitting unfollow/block and going about your day. I won’t be publishing your ask or responding to it or sparing it any thought. No exceptions. ✌️

Hi! Read this please!
Welcome to my playground! You'll mostly see art here, as I am an artist. This is your warning: I AM NOT STRICTLY SFW. I post whatever I feel like, and that includes NSFW art/potentially triggering artwork. Rest assured they will be tagged and marked properly.
My commissions are open! Before you request a commission from me, please refer to this post: here.
About roleplaying: Not currently looking to do that sort of thing. I might make a blog dedicated to that in the future. But for now, no roleplays, sorry!
Send me asks! I take requests, and I love answering questions!
Please use she/they pronouns when addressing me, and you can call me PJ or Rosey. I'm 20, queer (aroace), suspected autistic, and a huge chocoholic.
Right now I'm working on Student's Echoes, a take on the Undertale NaJ AU owned by Dreamy's Mess, with some extra l o r e. You can check out Student's Echoes here: @studentsechoes
On this blog, I am working on Researcher Lewis. A very dark, twisted version of Lewis from Meet the Robinsons. Yes, he will be connected to my other major project (Student's Echoes). How? You'll have to wait and see... This is Researcher Lewis' basic concept. (cw: vent art/disturbing imagery) (to find Researcher Lewis posts, use #researcher lewis)
I am also working on Pasteltale. A very dark - but brightly colored - Undertale AU. It's gonna be bright, gorey, grotesque... everything I love! It will mostly appear as still images with some small comics here and there. This is Pasteltale's basic concept. (to find Pasteltale posts, use #pasteltale)
Other minor things I have here: Vampireverse (my reboot) - I have a version of the Vampireverse originally created by someone I do not wish to name. A version where Jasper is part Siren, and in love with a village girl named Lucy. PJ's Daycare (my reboot) - A story more geared towards older/mature audiences, it follows PJ - a recovering addict sentenced to community service and reform via therapy. Along this journey, he discovers a lot about himself. Various Lewis AUs - I LOVE Meet the Robinsons, and its main character, Lewis. I make tons of AUs of Lewis, and may occasionally share them here. Unicornverse - Underverse. But they're magical sparkly unicorns. This is a self indulgent thing, to be honest.
Themed Playlists - I like making playlists around a certain character, ship, or theme. You can check them out on Spotify! (Names act as the link.) Calamitree - A playlist for Bradilo (Bradley x Milo) from Milo Murphy's Law. Featuring two distinct sides of the relationship. Freckles - A playlist themed around my reboot version of Lewis from Meet the Robinsons. Missing Summer with PJ - Doodling on the bus seats while wishing it were Summer is better than going to school, says PJ. (NaJ PJ themed playlist.) Subject 07 - He has every right to be miserable, but he has a lot of love to give. Rainbow Trinkets - Jam out with Kawaii Lewis with all of your best colorful accessories on!
My persona's name is Rosey, and you can find her reference sheet here. Use #rosey's log to find out more about her.
I have two besties on here. @arinthehunter and @thecrispykoala! They're dating each other, and I couldn't be happier for them. Arin specifically is not only helping me write for Student's Echoes, but she's also writing her own fanfiction over on AO3. Go to her blog for details~
Do not interact: MAP/MAP supporters (pedos get out), TERFs, queerphobic/LGBT-phobic, crpyto-bros/NFT supporters, proshippers, ableists, misogynists, white supremecists/pretty much anyone who doesn't support movements such as BLM, racists, super straights I want this blog to be free of hate, so take your ass and shove it. Content Warnings Researcher Lewis: Blood, gore, psychological horror, disturbing imagery, grotesque imagery, torture, dehumanization, abuse (all forms), needles, alcohol(?), drugs Pasteltale: Blood, gore (pastel variety), extreme violence, grotesque imagery Special note for minors: Posts that might be triggering or too explicit for you will be marked as mature or tagged with "tw" type tags. I am not responsible for anything that happens to you. You have read the warnings, it is your call whether you heed them or not. Scroll safely and cautiously.
Enjoy my playground! Please be civil!

some tips for writing blogs, especially those who are just starting out. these are some things that works for me and may or may not work for others.
how to add a read more link on mobile
type :readmore: on a free space, then hit the enter or return button
personally i think they’re very helpful because it lessens the space you take up in your dash, and might encourage more people to rb
+ you can also add this on a spot where it gives a sort of cliffhanger, essentially making people want to ‘read more’
headers, banners, and dividers
though not necessary, it’s good to have a title for your work. make sure it’s bold and doesn’t blend in with your notes (aka pairing, warnings, etc.). this also helps when someone wants to look up one of your works in your search bar
i don’t really make banners or covers for my works. but some good apps that i know of would be picsart and canva. if you’re looking for ideas, i definitely recommend going into canva
wondering how to make those really small, thin dividers? you can make them using picsart! to make a divider hit tools > free crop > brush > size (adjust it to your preference > then draw a line along the edge of your photo > save
using the divider you just saved, go back to picsart and edit it again > draw option > hit rainbow square at the bottom left corner > hit suction/droplet symbol right below the check mark > color in the white spots bc for some reason picsart glitches and makes dividers look white-ish
new blog? just opened an account?
this is gonna sound really frustrating. but... tumblr needs to check if you’re a bot or not. what does this mean? it’s likely that your first few posts won’t show up on the search bar. you may not even get to edit your header/pfp yet ://
this happened to me and there was no visibility on my account at ALL. what helped me get ‘verified’ is that i followed a LOT of accounts, liked a bunch of posts, made some posts here and there. now that lets tumblr know you’re not a bot
visibility
the tumblr tagging system usually only allows the first 5 tags in your post to show up. so, what can do you about this? only use FIVE or less tags in your post. wait about 15 minutes or more until you can add some more tags in your post, and they usually all show up like that
another important thing about using tags is not to generalize! especially if you’re using a popular tag. but also don’t specify it too much where barely anyone looks it up. for example, if you’re writing a gn piece about oikawa, i recommend you use the tags such as: oikawa x reader, haikyuu x reader, oikawa x gn!reader, haikyuu headcanons, etc
a good rule of thumb is to use character x reader tags first, then leave the full name or fandom tag last
FOR NSFW: tumblr doesn’t let any tags with nsfw show up. so, give your nsfw works another tag. maybe #namegetspicy idk, you figure it out
FOR WARNINGS: especially if you’re a dark content creator, i highly encourage you to add tw:xyz tags. if you already have a warning note at the top then that’s great. but even better for readers who prefer to actually block these tags that way they never get to see it
another important thing to note is that people have different timezones. it helps if you rb your work at a different time of the day, in case people missed it! (icymi) i’ve noticed that reblogging helps to make your post show up in the tags
interaction + feedback
first and foremost, you are not obligated to write for your followers, and neither are your followers obligated to interact with you. remember that everyone has their own individual lives, and they have their own things to do— so do you, too.
make friends! become mutuals with other writers, visit their ask box. i know it can be daunting having to initiate these things, but you might just turn out to have fun! you can’t expect people to interact with you if you’re not interacting (back). it’s... kind of a two way thing yk? no need to be afraid to interact with other writers. oh, and rb other writers works!
pspsps join tag games or do ask games. it’s fun and very interactive
it never hurts to ask for feedback. i usually do this in a more subtle way because i don’t really expect a full on analysis on my works. maybe a little, is this okay? or feedback appreciated. sometimes it takes a little bit of coaxing for the silent readers
formatting your posts and blog
i generally put in the title at the top in big, bold letters
then comes the header/divider. helps to make the post more... visually appealing ig?
it’s important to add warnings (if any) and the pairing. the audience is not all female, and it might be a little frustrating for male readers having to find out its an x fem reader piece like halfway through your fic
if you have multiple works posted, it’s really really helpful to have a navigation page!
you can organize the posts you make with tags! for example, if you’re shitposting, you can use a specific tag for that. if you have a nsfw related post (ESPECIALLY when your blog is open to the general audience) please make a tag for it
themes + colors
if you have a color in mind but don’t know which direction to go from there, i recommend looking up color + aesthetic
looking to use the same color? download a name color app that’ll give you a hex code for any color you want to use. then, you can type in that hex code for when you’re choosing a color for your tumblr bio
wondering how to make your header image small like mine? just choose a photo for your header and turn off the stretch image option
want to use a different text color that tumblr doesn’t offer? it’s not as complicated as you think. you’ll have to go on a desktop to do this and do some html (but trust me, it’s not very difficult). look up “HTML noob but trying my best - how to use colored text on desktop”
^^ i don’t have the link for the color text tutorial so you can try looking it up
how to make an aesthetic navi and masterlist
step 1: decide a theme! if you’re stuck, think about a character + color/season/mood or look up “[insert] aesthetic” to find some inspiration. or you can try looking at other blogs too
step 2: find a color scheme! it’s easier if you choose fewer colors. if you want to use the same color for both divider and text, download a color name app in order to get the hex code of that color.
step 3: add categories to your navi! most navigation pages include a link to masterlist, about/byi, and rules. your navi should have a title that indicates that it’s... a navigation page. you can add thin colored dividers with the same color to make it easier for followers to navigate
step 4: you can choose to create a ‘cover’ or a picture for your navigation and masterlist! again, i recommend you use the canva app as a starting point
extra: search up emoticon symbols to spice up your titles!
reminder for you as a writer
you’re not obligated to do any of these things. i’ve noticed that we tend to build pressure on ourselves when it comes to content and interaction. remember, this !! is !! for !! fun !! when you realize that it’s no longer fun, then know that it’s time to take a break. and there’s nothing wrong with a bit of self care.
^^ c/p from this post lol
at the end of the day, follower count and interaction doesn’t define you. again for the love of beings, you’re here on your own accord.
will be adding more if needed/asked.

K-Pop life lessons (2 year old blog anniverary project)
I believe that music is something that can bring people together. I believe that the musicians we listen too and the things they create can teach us things. This goes for every genre, not just K-Pop. But there is a stigma around K-Pop of it just being men and women dancing around singing about ice cream, rainbows and happiness. It can be that, but it can be incredibly meaningfull and the artists teach us things.
Here are some things I have learned:
Monsta X , BTOB and Seventeen taught me that family isn’t just blood, it can go further than that. Your friends can become your family.
SHINee and VIXX taught me that it’s perfectly fine to go against the grain of what others do. As long as you stay yourself.
Day6 taught me that it’s okay to feel alone sometimes, but in the end you are never truly alone.
Sistar, Girl’s Generation, AOA, Mamamoo etc have taught me that it’s okay to be confident and speak my mind when I feel like I am being done wrong.
Here are some life lessons that other Kpop fans have chosen to share with me
“stray kids taught me that it's perfectly okay to be sad, depressed, or have anxiety because there's always a light at the end of the tunnel and so there's so many people just like me”
-@lysss-xo
“Super Junior taught me how to smile and laugh again after I had spent so much time barley going through the motions.”
-signed, A Shy Male ELF.
“VIXX and BTS taught me that even when you might feel down and think that nothing matters, eventually everything is going to get better.”
- @michelleherrera16
“Day6 taught me that’s it’s okay to go at my own pace and everyone can feel lonely and thats okay Stray Kids thought me that everyone feels lost at some point and going into adulthood is scary and longing to go back to the easier days is normal”
-@its-simply-me19
“BTS taught me that I can't always think about everyone else, I'm young and I have my own dreams to go after. If I need it, I'll take the time to sort my sht out. That's thanks to SUGA's 'Nevermind'. Mikrokosmos made me realize I have a reason for being here right now, and my existence does matter. These two songs had lyrics that pulled me out of suicidal thoughts i'd been dealing with for 6 years. It’s so weird that certain lyrics had that effect on me. Although I still have depression and social anxiety, I’m slowly getting over it. I’m finding myself.”
-@moonkiddionysus17
“This is pretty basic, but BTS and Got7’s Jackson are teaching me to love myself since I hate myself to my core. It’s a long road but I know I’ll get there eventually ❤️⭐️”
-@broken-scene-queens
“I know this isnt strictly what you asked butVixx and esp, Hakyeon inspire me. I see him being a leader and helping his members, vlogging, serving his country, moving out, spending time with friends and family, doing charity work in a very super low key way, being kind, gracious and just a lovely human being and it reminds me that's what I need to be. I want to inspire and carry myself with the level of maturity and grace he has.”
-anon
“Wanna One taught me the right way to life with memories, to not get stuck in the past holding onto memories crying because they're not coming back, instead I've learned to treasure memories and see them as something beautiful without pain, but with a smile on my face.”
-Anon
“VIXX and BTS showed me that there is nothing wrong with being sexually dominant and identifying as a woman -- their subby concepts gave me metaphorical wings. (my name is Coral but I don't have a tumblr I just check yours sorry)”
-Anon
“Monsta x and Dreamcatcher taught me to never give up on your dreams, no matter what anyone says, the amount of pain and heatbreak, or how long it takes. Dreamcatcher specifically taught me that it is okay to start over if what you were doing in your life did not turn out to be what you wanted. Sometimes it takes a little more time to figure yourself out before you are happy. ( Their story of how they went from Minx to Dreamcatcher really inspires me)”
-@brieflycraftycollectoruniverse
“N.flying taught me that it’s okay to be weird, out of the box, and different. Taught me how to accept my weird personality and find others that accepted it as well.”
-anon
“So for me, it was VIXX. They were my first group and they came into my life at the right time. I had hit an all time low with my depression. 'Error' distracted me from the bad in the world and it was through them that I learned that there was still beauty in the world. Their lyrics inspired and Ravi in particularly inspired with his own struggles and his outlooks on life. I don't think I would be here or at least as happy as as stable as I am if it wasn't for them.”
-Anon
“A lot of the groups have fought me the families don’t end in blood, that you can make your own if needed, mainly 17 and Victon”
-🦋 anon
“iKON, EXO, and Monsta X taught me what a real family looks like, and how to support my fam through thick and thin. The most important lesson is that family doesn't end with blood, and sometimes it doesn't even start with blood. After all, the blood from a pact with your real family will always be thicker than the water of the womb.”
-@wynnewriteshq
“Red Velvet didn't really teach me much, but they gave me a reason to smile. Wendy said this on VLIVE a little after RV's 5th anniversary: "I will always be there for you, I will be there even when you leave because you can always come back to me." (paraphrasing) It made me cry a little on the inside because I found them the summer before I started high school. It was really rough but I had their music to make me happy.”
-Anon
“Tbh I got into kpop at a crazy time I'm a young mom and I felt so out of touch with who I am. It was more than one group, but the combination of "fun thing for me " and BTS had just started the love yourself series... it meant the world to me to remind myself that the me that exists under "mom" was worth love too.”
-Anon
“Got7 taught me that it's okay to have fun while chasing your dreams and ambitions. You're not doing anything wrong while having fun cause you're still on the path you wanna go. Even if there are people that don't believe in your dreams remember that you're doing for yourself, not for them. Do what makes you happy.”
-@ahgasedaa-mark
“Blackpink taught me to be the badass woman i am today. I think without them i would still be in my shell of depression and fear. Got7 didnt teach me anything they saved my life. Their music calms me and makes me feel loved with saying how beautiful, amazing, and perfect you are in their lyrics. I know it may sound cliche but their music has helped me a lot feel beautiful and good about myself. Bts did the same. both got7 and bts had taught me that i deserve better. They became my safe space when i have panic attack. They both helped me get me out of sexually abusive relationship and helped me gain the friends i have today. I have great friends that arent toxic and a closer relationship with my mom. I even met my boyfriend because without got7 and bts words i would have never gotten out of my house, get on dating sights, and go to japan. They have helped me immensely when i used to be shut in.”
-@kpopluvwriter
“RM of BTS reminded me that I love writing poetry to express the things I can't tell anyone. TOP of BIGBANG showed me that someone with anxiety issues can still do anything. Most of all, most of the groups I love have given me a community I can trust with more than just Kpop stuff- I feel safe telling fellow Kpop stans that I'm trans and nonbinary because I've seen such a supportive and loving community here.”
-Anon
“Kpop fan culture has taught me that you will always have a friend if you need one. Also that if someone is in distress another WILL come to help. Stray Kids, Bts, Seventeen etc.: have taught me that it’s okay to love myself and that if they love me I should love myself too.”
-@skylarrae168
“Stray kids taught me to never give up no matter how long it's going to take, it's okay to take your time and that no matter what I'm going through everything is going to be okay. Bts taught me that's it's okay to not have a dream and to just do whatever makes me happy and they also taught me how to be myself...like I should be always be myself and that there is nothing 'wrong' with me...if that make sense”
-@paigsa
“Kpop has taught me a lot of things subtly over the past couple years. But the ones I can really pick out are that. It taught me how not to give up on life when things get tough but just step back. It taught me how and when to cut out toxic people from my life. It taught me that I can still do so much despite my mental health and that my mental illnesses don't define me. It's also inspired me to start drawing again after a long bout of art block.”
-@z-stitch
“Kpop as a whole has taught me to be myself, to live more creatively and not to hide anymore.”
-@harmonal
Alot of these brought me to tears and I am so glad you all decided to participate in this and I really appreciate it. Please stick with me for the years to come ♥

Do know any good age difference fics? Thank you & I love your blog ❤️
One life stand by Vendelin
Stiles is used to selling himself to make ends meet. But it’s getting harder to keep those ends meeting, and there’s only so much of Stiles to go around. Until a too-fancy car shows up in his neighborhood, and he meets Derek Hale.
All Derek wants is Stiles’s time, someone to stay on his arm for events and smile for the cameras. It’s the easiest job Stiles has ever had, the best-paying one he’s ever had, and he’s more than happy to sign up.
Derek is everything and nothing Stiles expects him to be, with his tailored suits, sharp mind and his quiet way of caring. But it’s just a job and Stiles never meant to fall in love.
I Just Wanna Be With You Every Day by Brego_Mellon_Nin
When his best friend’s son barrels into the kitchen only dressed in a pair of skintight jeans, lean but defined torso on display, Derek knows he’s truly and utterly fucked. Not only is the kid barely eighteen, but he also happens to be the Sheriff’s only son.
Derek makes a vow to himself that he will not seek Stiles out and he’ll get this thing under control.
Multidisciplinary Studies by DevilDoll
Stiles is a slightly-older-and-very-sexy librarian and Derek has a thirst for knowledge.
Salty Sweet by secondstar
Derek works at a porn store. One day, Stiles comes in asking all sorts of TMI questions about different toys. That’s where it all starts.
One Door Closes by KouriArashi
Derek knows that Stiles is too young for him, but Stiles doesn’t agree. Eight years after Derek rejects him due to the age gap, they meet again where Derek has settled in Wyoming as a ranch hand, and Stiles is the new deputy, and still pissed as hell about the way Derek turned him down. Things don’t go as either of them planned. (I’m sure a million fics have been written about older Stiles and Derek, but this one has cowboy Derek, does that help?)
Ruin Me (Take Me Down) by xLostDreamsx
Driving his teachers and his Dad crazy with his incessant trouble making, Stiles reluctantly accepts young college student Derek Hale as his ‘babysitter’, his Dad misguidedly believing he will be a positive role model to help guide him back to the straight and narrow.
Unfortunately for the Sheriff, he isn’t quite aware that Derek isn’t quite as up-standing as he appears and at the hands of his smart, young, manipulative son with a head full of ideas, his rather weak moral codes soon crumble.
Or put simply, Derek gives in to Stiles and things get hot and heavy pretty fast.
A Thousand and One Firsts, But Only One Forever. by TheLoyalFriend
When Stiles was eight, he had panic attacks. He would sleep walk, block by block going further until he finally reached the woods.
When Derek was eleven he found some brat in the woods, asleep on a rock.
They fall in love.
Be the Life of the Party by Mimiminaj
His father’s face suddenly turned serious again.
“He is twenty four though, son. I don’t care if his smile shits rainbows and his laugh births puppies. You are his employee. It would be bad to cross those lines during your first job. Or ever.”
Stiles’ face hit the table.
“I hate my life,” he moaned.
Scott laughed cheerfully. “Don’t worry sheriff! It sounds to me like the entire cinema staff feels the same. Stiles doesn’t stand a chance with Derek!”
“Scratch that,” Stiles mumbled into the wood. “I hate you two more.”
Or – Stiles starts working at the movie theater. His boss is Derek.
And We Only Saw Half the Ballet by meglimeg
Stiles is one of those, ‘love or hate’ kinds of students. The smart-ass, obnoxious, loud-mouthed sort of kid that a teacher will either love to teach, or hate to teach. He tends to be a hit with the older teachers and the younger teachers; the ones who are either young enough to relate to him or old enough to appreciate how different he is from the other students. It’s the ones in the middle, the ones who feel like they deserve his respect but never seem to be able to earn it, that hate him. Finstock and Harris could write sonnets about being pissed off with Stiles.
But basically, everyone has their side. Love or hate. No in-betweens.
Except for Derek. Derek’s in between. Predictably.
Put Down in Words by paintedrecs
“Oh,” Stiles said, his voice coming out low and breathy, “fuck me.”
“I don’t think that’s on the syllabus, but we can check to see if there’s a spot open in any of his classes,” Scott said, grinning.
“This isn’t an actual professor, though,” Stiles insisted, unable to resist brushing his thumb over the sharp line of the man’s bearded jaw. He was laughing at something off-camera, the shot taken in three-quarters view, his coat collar casually rumpled and opened to reveal a sliver of a simple grey t-shirt. The whole thing was deliberately calculated to lend him a more accessible feel, and god help him, Stiles was falling for it.
*
When Stiles signed up for Dr. Hale’s intro to history class, he had two goals: knock out the credits his advisor was bugging him to complete before he graduated, and spend a few hours a week daydreaming about his sexy professor’s salt and pepper beard.
Derek, a few months away from turning forty and not sure when his life had started feeling so damn lonely, had never encountered someone like Stiles before. Bright-eyed, sharp-tongued, determined to throw Derek’s carefully cultivated world into disarray…and absolutely the last person Derek should be falling in love with.
Later, mate! by Smowkie
Derek looked at the time and sighed. One more hour until he could go pick up Alex and go home. It was Friday, and Fridays were their nights, so they were going to eat Chinese food and watch Beauty and the Beast for the thousand time and probably play a game together, and he couldn’t wait.
Someone knocked on his open door and he startled a little as he was pulled out of his head. Stiles smiled at him from the doorway.
”Hey, professor Hale,” he said.
”Mr Stilinski,” Derek said and tried to keep his smile professionally polite.
Every time he talked to Stiles he had to remind himself that he was his student, that while he was 18, and legal in that aspect, he was still ten years younger than Derek, Sheriff Stilinski’s son, and again, his student.
Gym Rats by i_am_girlfriday
Stiles spots Derek at the smoothie shop across the street from the gym early on a crisp April morning, it’s not even 7 AM yet. For some reason, and Stiles will deny it has anything to do with Derek in joggers, he decides that maybe this is the perfect chance to introduce himself.
It’s Always For You by S_Horne
There in the drawer lay an envelope which suddenly caught Stiles’ attention with its capitalized text. As he brought it closer for a better look his brain shut down for a second. That was his name. His name and his husband’s… Reading the top form with utter disbelief, Stiles pulled out the other pieces of paper with shaking hands and a heart that threatened to beat straight out of his chest.
/
“I won’t sign. I promise you right now, I’m not going to sign them.” When he got no reply but a shake of the head, his voice broke with his heart. “Please, don’t do this.”
Flowerwolf & Beacon Roots by alisvolatpropiis
Derek tries not to show his surprise, curiously hopeful, but still suspicious of Laura’s involvement. “Oh. How do you know my coffee order then?”
He grins. “The cute baristo knows your order, dude. All I had to do was ask for Grumpy Flower Guy’s usual.”
Derek huffs. “I’m not grumpy.”
“He says grumpily,” Stiles smirks, winking.
The sound of his own laughter surprises Derek, so yeah, okay, maybe Stiles has a point.
“Laura said that you weren’t really into dating,” Stiles goes on, “but that uh, you uh, well you know.” Stiles’ cheeks flush a very pretty ruddy pink under the scatter of beauty marks that Derek aches to taste. Stiles turns away, towards the cooler of roses, muttering to himself under his breath, which of course Derek can hear perfectly well. “Great freakin’ advice, Lydia, ‘just bring up sex and tell him you’re cool with having a one night stand,’ okay, sure, that worked fucking beautifully.”
“Okay.” The word is out of his mouth before Derek can even think about the consequences of saying it, something unusual for him. He wants Stiles however he can get him, it seems.
“Okay?” Stiles eyes are wide when he spins back to look at him.
“Yeah, okay. Let’s have sex.”

Songs From 2019 (one per artist)
Another mixed bag of stuff i either enjoyed a lot, thought was excellent or interesting (regardless of taste… sort of), emerging artists to maybe look out for, and generally music that for whatever reason connected with me in some way, including the odd earworm i just couldn’t shake. Some artists are left off just to vary a little more from some other popular lists. Hope you enjoy some of this too and find something new to be taken by. Please do buy their music if you can and hopefully from a local independent record store if possible to support their work. There’s a spotify playlist (below) for easier listening but I’ve also posted a few links to extra things on some of them if you want to check them out. Spotify:
(As ever…. as i don’t tumblr or blog or anything (besides this list), this won’t be seen by many (if any?) people so if you like it or think it’s of any worth in any way, please do share this along)

Asgardian Heir
CHAPTER 24
You woke to almost complete darkness, strapped down to a bed, your heart racing instantly. You could smell the dust and dirt, a hint of gasoline, and you pinched your eyes tight as memories started to flood forward. The drip, drip, drip from some where in the distant wasn't helping either. The gag in your mouth tasted of fresh soil and gas. Dear god, no, not this.
You woke to a dimly lit room, the pungent smell of sand and gas infiltrating your senses. You could hear a pipe dripping somewhere over the thundering in your ears from your own heart rate. All you remembered was the blast, the poor kid, god that image was going to be seared into your brain. A door to your left slowly squeaked as it was opened.
Fuck, he knew how to get you rattled, you pulled at your bindings knowing it would be no use. You opened your eyes again, letting them adjust to the dark confines of the room. You thought you could see a small red dot some where to your right, but when you would narrow your eyes it would vanish making you wonder if you were truly seeing it.
"Think you can get out of those?" You heard sending a shiver down your spine, how long had it been since your heard his voice.
Fear blossoming in your chest pulling it tight and making it difficult to breathe. You closed your eyes again, to make matters worse you left with out telling anyone. Yeah, you left Tony a note but it wouldn't give them any indication where you had gone to, and to top it off the asshole went got plastic surgery. When you opened your eyes you could feel a tear slowly slip down the side of your face, cooling as it trailed down your temple.
The room brighten, illuminating Mark, he sat in the corner next to lamp with the bulb bare. He smirked, almost every feature had changed, his nose thinned out, filler in the cheeks, his chin had been shaved, making it more pointed. You glared over to him, your nostrils flaring, every muscle in your body tense.
"Hello, beautiful. Miss me?" He asked, slowly raising to his feet. Fuck you, you thought to yourself.
His finger trailed up your bare leg, making you realize that all the separated you from this man's line of sight was the thin disgusting sheet draped over your body. He hooked his finger, the fabric bunching up the closer he made his way up towards your head was. He held a sheet of paper in his other hand, as his eyes travel over your body with more he exposed of it.
"Seems like someone went and got themselves a little boy toy." He replied, holding up the paper, waving it slightly. "Would you like me to read it to you?"
You hated him, you hated him since the moment you had been captured the first time and now here you were, stuck with him again.
"I think I will." He unfolded the paper. "Who ever this guy is, he has fancy hand writing. Let's see, darling, seriously who says darling anymore. I hate seeing you this way, I may not have gone through the same torture you have but I understand a fraction of your pain. After I fell from the rainbow bridge I had been lost. The beings that found me, the things they did to get me under their control are things I try not to think about. The pain and suffering I went through before I lost my own control is nothing I would wish on my enemies."
Mark looked up from the paper as he slowly sank on the edge of the bed, the springs squeaking beneath his weight.
"Sounds like the two of you are star crossed lovers." He turned his attention back to the paper. "When I was under their control, it was like I was watching the world unfold around me, and the pain I inflicted I couldn't stop. After I had been sent back to Asgard I tried not to let anyone get close to me, then they sent you. Since the moment you stubbornly stepped onto the planet my entire world has flipped on its head. But if you wish for me to leave then I shall. Just know my darling, I will always be here for you."
You could feel the tears slipping down your face, as you look away from Mark.
"How sickeningly sweet, does he know your damaged goods?" Mark sneered, grabbing the blanket and ripping it from your body.
~~~
Loki sulked around when he returned to the palace, heading straight to the garden. He needed to be away from people, he needed to figure out why he felt this way about you. You were but a mere midgardian, nothing overly extraordinary about you. Yet he had been enraptured with you, your stubbornness, your refusal to back down. The resolve in your character, he had seen you train with Thor on many occasions and knew you would be a worthy foe in battle.
Truth was he had found you attractive when he had first seen you, dressed as all midgardians did, but then he found you pleasantly irritating. Now, now he couldn't get you out of his head, he had tried to flirt with other women on Asgard while you were here, but had failed to find any that could a candle to you. He found them dull, boring, ordinary, there was nothing that made them stand out like you had.
He sat down on one of the stone benches under the weeping tree, looking up towards the heavens, hand clasped in his lap. Loki sat there for hours watching the stars thinking about you, it was oddly out of character for him to be hung up on someone.
"Brother!" Thor voice echoed through the garden, not sounding the slightest bit pleased. "What have you done!"
"Thor, it does not matter." Loki responded finally looking down and seeing the angry blonde storming his direction. "Guess we should get this over." He muttered under his breath.
"What have you done to y/n?" He asked in an accusatory tone.
"Whatever do you mean Thor." Loki responded coolly standing from his spot.
"Y/n, she's missing and Stark said he had seen you slip away tonight at the party. And when he went to look for her he found her and Barnes in the gym, she was crying and hyperventilating." Thor spat out, slamming his brother against a column. "Now I ask of you, what did you do?"
"I went to say fair well." Loki hissed back. "Is that not the proper thing to do?"
"No more lies, brother." Thor growled, stretching his free hand out the side, a steady whine in the air could be heard. Seconds later the mjnior was in his hand and he slammed into the column next to Loki's head. "Y/n left. And no one can find her, she left note saying she was leaving cause she fucked everything up, then there was a breach in one the shield buildings and it left people dead. I want you understand the gravity of the situation, Loki, she was caught in a compromising situation with Barnes. And left crying, then she disappears and an attack on shield. Her bag and weapon were found on the premises."
"What?" Loki's eyes widened as his brother continue to speak.
"Stark said nothing was a miss, he checked the surveillance footage." Thor remarked loosing the steam he had, releasing his brother.
"Thor, I might have a way to find her." Loki stated, rushing past his brother.
20 Taboos About Dot Painting You Should Never Share On Twitter | Dot Painting
John Trumbull’s painting “Declaration of Independence,” which hangs in the bank of the US Capitol, commemorates the certificate that freed the United States, aforetime the 13 British colonies, from European aphorism in 1776. The abstraction of freedom, though, was acutely limited: bullwork was alone abolished about a aeon later, and its reverberations of racist abandon and aculation incarceration subjugate Black bodies to this day.
In a agitating ogy of this hypocrisy, Arlen Parsa, a Chicago-based doentary filmmaker, covered the faces of every enslaver in the painting with a red circle: a 34 out of the 47 men pictured, best of whom were signers of the Declaration. (The fact-checking website PolitiFact has corroborated Parsa’s count.)
“There’s a axiological irony that these men were triumphantly declaring themselves chargeless from what they beheld as the absolutism of King George III — afterwards so abundant as a anticipation against the bodies who they themselves captivated in chains abundant added barbarous than 18th-century British taxes,” Parsa told Hyperallergic.
He was aggressive to actualize the angel in August 2019, a -soaked ages that saw 53 bodies die in aculation shootings in the US. Seeking to claiming arguments by gun rights advocates, who abide to adjure the Second Amendment and the beeline ascendancy of the Constitution, he absitively to “portray the Founders in a ablaze that fabricated it easier to catechism their judgment.”
Out of the five-man board that drafted the Declaration of Independence, depicted in Trumbull’s painting handing John Han an aboriginal
Triple Feature next week! Plus get a Free Operator Preset Rack for Ableton’s Live 10.0.5 below
Hello out there! I’ve evidently been on an unannounced hiatus for a couple of weeks, blog-wise. -- If anyone here is reading this hoping to see more soundcloud content from me in the near future I’m going to have to disappoint you sadly. After somewhere close to 90 tracks on this: https://soundcloud.com/tripleheadedmonkey page I am calling an end to my spree of free downloads and from now on will be focusing entirely on “official” releases on platforms like Spotify. -- In order to make up for it I’m going to be doing a Triple Feature, one for each head, starting this week on Wednesday. I realize this initial post makes it a quadruple feature overall but that doesn't really fit with my name so lets just pretend this is something else right here and stick with calling it a “triple” feature. Actually you can call it whatever you want, but I’ll just cover my ears and sing “somewhere over the rainbow” out of key till reality bends to my will. *Ahem* I’ll use this first post as an opportunity to mention some of what I’ve been working on recently and to go over a few changes I’ve made to my plans since the first blog post, over a month ago. If you don’t big yourself and what you do up, who will? Of course It won’t simply be a vanity post. Anybody who knows me will tell you I’m one of the least vain people you could meet. There will even be a free content drop for anybody who takes the time to read -and anybody who scrolls down and ignores what I write too. I wouldn't blame them either. The next 3 features are as wordy as this one, at least. I’ve already written a significant portion of them in advance so I’m warning you lazy people, like me, looking for free content now. For this triple feature, most of the content will be completely original samples for free download. Now to talk about the changes I’ve envisioned. They stem originally from the new beta update for Ableton’s Live, “10.1″ as I’ve opted to, against the advice of Ableton, use the beta update and its new features as my mainstay DAW on this project. I still want to participate in a collaborative project and will be actively continuing with the project linked in my first blog post: https://tripleheadedmonkey.tumblr.com/post/182431052180/hello-tumblr However because of the lack of reception so far and because my own artistic directions having taken over in the meantime, I’ve opted to focus, for the time being, on a different project, still an EP, but this one is themed upon depression, anxiety, confusion, the causes of suffering, progression, silver linings and rising above oppression. This is also to meet the demands of my academic deadlines, for which I need a fully working project, including accompanying written documentation within the next 7-8 weeks. Normally I would say this would be plenty of time, but this doesn't take into account the other 2 academic modules I have projects on the go for with similarly placed deadlines. I have briefly mentioned the projects associated with them before and will be going into more detail during the next 3 posts during my triple feature next week, but a short overview here wouldn't hurt. This Blog is a specifically a part of the EP project and is a part of the marking criteria for succeeding academically, but I want to make sure I keep on top of blogging as a regular activity. I’ve always wanted a platform of my own to write articles online and this certainly gives me an excuse to do so, even if I’m only venting at thin air here. Though I may switch to a different blogging platform and bring my current content over, because Facebook is not allowing me to share my blog due to an apparent violation of Facebook’s terms of service by Tumblr themselves. For my main project you should expect to see a series of tutorial videos being uploaded to youtube geared around low budget/free techniques to help a producer of any level using a PC get by and even up their game on little to no expensive equipment. The final project I will mention here will be the next to be featured later on during the week and if you read my previous post, linked above, you might remember it too. A Horror-Survival video game for PC, using unreal engine, set in a steam-punk version of modern england. -- Here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! That free content drop in the title! Will only work on version 10.0.5 or newer but here you go: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CBsf8O16SXv5lCUc_OnHMnrolX2ugHw1 I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing! Please continue to check this blog for future updates if you have enjoyed reading, because it’s only going to get more interesting from here!
Review: Kawaii Box Nov 2016
Message of the Month: Have a Pink X-Mas!
(and ironically, I did.)
For the month of November, subscribers were presented with 11 items!
Something I love about Kawaii Box is that even if it feels a little repetitive at times- they give you so much. And for a cheap price!
As usual we’ll get right into it then.
Not Pictured: Kracie Popin’ Cookin’ DIY Pudding Flan Parfait Kit.
(and yes the name is that long OxO)
Basically, this was eaten BFB (Before Blog, I’ll probably be using that if need-be at times). I did have pictures from when I made it- but I don’t feel like they were worthy of the blog (plus there’s that pic limit). Long story short, I actually don’t like pudding much, and was terrified it’d taste like Banana (something else I’m not crazy over). It was really good! You can find this set online and if you do, I suggest you try it.
Meiji Mini Candy Box - Meiji is another popular brand most people hear of in Japan. They make all sorts of candy, with their most common to find being: Strawberry Smarties (candy coated strawberry chocolate), Coffee Beat (chocolate coated coffee taste), Choco Baby (petite chocolate pieces), Apollo strawberry chocolate (strawberry chocolate candies) and Smarties (candy coated chocolate).
Everyone received one random box- and luckily, I got the one I wanted! Since trying the DIY for them, I always wanted to try the real apollo’s and they did not fail to disappoint. For such a tiny box they really give you a lot too.
And just look at that kawaii Tamagotchi-esque mascot~
If you’re interested in trying any of these, check out the official shop related to Kawaii Box:
http://www.blippo.com/meiji-mini-assortment-set-1.html
Fruit Shaped Sharpener - An adorable... well the name says it for me :3 I’ve yet to use this, considering I actually don’t carry around normal pencils, and the few I still own- I have no idea where they’re at. Available in Watermelon, Orange, Kiwi, Dragon Fruit, and Tomato.
(Yes, a lot more places are calling Tomato a fruit now. Guess its official.)
Anyway, while I haven’t used it, what I do like is that it seems to be made with the intent of using the inside as a pencil shaving collector. Which is always a plus in my book.
Bananya Plush Charm - KAWAII!! Pretty much all there is to say on it. Out of the choices I definitely got the one I’d want. But here’s a pic of the others for you guys to enjoy:
(sorry for the minor glare)
Besides the one I got, I think the black one is the second cutest. But they’re all precious.
Cute Milk 2-Color Pen - HOW CUTE IS THIS?! An adorable cow-themed pen with 2 colors! and look, PINK!
This pen is available in 5 styles, 1 pink, 1 blue, and 4 black with alternate faces. As a pen it works nicely, just remember to be careful when you pull/push down the ears and horn. They’re very delicate, with one side writing in red/pink, and the other side blue.
Pastel Eraser Pen - Did you think they gave us two pens this time around~? You’re close, but there’s no ink! It’s a pen-shaped eraser that works like a led pencil, how cool is that?! and look, again, pink!
(In case you missed my earlier posts, pink is my favorite color~)
These “pens“ are sure to fool friend and family alike as you whip it out of your purse or pencil case. Available in every color of the rainbow (with pink being the substitute for Red).
Here’s an example of the tools in use. I used the pen to doodle a little drawing, and the erase to rid of something I drew with a pencil (led, not a regular one). The eraser works very well, I just left the eraser shavings so that you guys could tell there was something there prior.
Kawaii Christmas Stickers - They’re kawaii, they’re little, they’re perfect for Resin crafts! This little red-nosed Santa is bound to brighten up someone’s day when they watch as he has fun in the winter scenery.
Peep Out! Animal Stick Markers - Do you guys remember those little planner stickers or tabs? Basically that’s what these are, except they’re thicker. These little cuties will keep everything you need to remember for easy access at a given notice. But will your friends and family be able to resist peeping after they see them??
Available in Alpaca, Shiba Inu, Panda, Neko, Bear, Seal and Penguin, Cat paws, and Bunny.
Happy Whistle Keychain - I’ll just say now that I’m not sure the whistle works. It’s advertised to work on the Kawaii Box blog, but when I try it just barely does. It just could be me though- I have asthma, I can’t sit around trying to make it work without getting dizzy XD
Once again I got it in Pink. But it’s also available in pastel yellow, and pastel purple.
(Was I seriously this lucky, or did everyone else get everything in pink too? They told us to have a Pink X-Mas but everything had variety too.)
Harajuku Hair Accessories - A two set piece with a pop, step, and colorful design!
(anyone get that reference?)
The 2 sets you get are randomized, so you can get these two, a red and pink rainbow with a ! on it and hair clips that match, or pink clips with love you written on it and a normal rainbow with a smiley face on it.
As usual Yoko lent me a hand in showing them off. She thought they were a bit “too Pop“ for her, so I took them out when we finished.
Now, this is the last set. Because of the pic limit I decided to try to find a way to display it that I liked.
DIY Korean Cupcake Set - A fun and easy crafting set available in 3 colors: Pink, Blue, and Yellow (the only pink thing I didn’t get if you notice the box back there). The only real difference between them are colors of the “extra“ items and the plate designs.
Included in the Box are: Plastic Tweezers, 2 wine bottles, a glass, 2 coffee cups, 2 cupcake liners, 4 little plates, a pack of air dry clay, and a container of little deco bits.
I’ll start by saying this is a very cute product and super-easy DIY. But... the quality is a bit bad. I say this because:
1. My clay packet was broken open, so half of the clay was dry and unusable.
2. The stickers on the plates were very loose and I had to press on them to make them “stick“ a little better.
3. Plastic remnants remained on the bottom of a few items and I had to cut/scratch it off with my nails.
Again its a really cute set and I did have fun with what I could use, but you can’t go in expecting top-notch quality with it. It’s quality was very “dollar store kit“ (you know, those kits that are really cheap and come with poor quality products that either don’t work or never look like the picture on the box?).
In the end, I decided not to make a big fuss over the clay, considering I buy my own air dry clay anyway. With what I had, I did try to make something though.
Here you can see Yoko with a decorated cupcake, some fruit slices, and some blue wine. Now, lets enjoy some sweets and continue on with the Cutie Ranking!
<3 Cutie Ranking <3
Quality - I wasn’t planning to include this, but I felt like i had to here. Everything was fine, except for that cupcake DIY. While I did like it, it would be unfair of me to say everything was perfect when it wasn’t. It had 3 problems with it and I did make them work, but I’m not going to lie. I don’t know when the bag on the clay broke, but I kind of wish someone checked this before it was sent out because I saw it was damaged from outside the box. 4 out of 5.
Content - I really liked the last box, and this box I liked about the same, if a teensy bit less. Everything is so tiny, I got that “dollar store“ vibe again. Cheap or not, when you have bigger items in a previous box it kind of says a lot when you give people tiny things in the next. 4 out of 5.
Practicality - I’ll be forgiving here since I did essentially use everything in the box, which is uncommon. 5 out of 5.
Total Rank: 13 out of 15 Cuties.
As I said above, I did enjoy this box. The smaller scale items are nice, but it feels like they went cheap and to some people that can be a deal breaker.
<3 Cutie Scale <3 1. Bananya - I don’t think anything can top this cuteness <3
2. Cute Milk 2-color Pen - Look at that precious Moo-cow face and tell me its not cute~
3. Kawaii Christmas Stickers - Tiny red-nosed Santa is so cute!
4. Peep Out! - Just precious. A bit generic cute though.
5. Happy Whistle Keychain - I don’t now why but I just think this is really cute.
6. DIY Koren Cupcake Kit - I LOVE miniature items, especially food based. However, I did mark it lowly due to the “issues“, which made it less-cute.
7. Harajuku Accessories - These are more or less “Pop“ cute.
8. Meiji Mini Candy - The candy resembles the design on the box, the package is also super-cute!
9. Eraser Pen - It’s cute to me, but its so plain.
10. Fruit Sharpener - its more on the realistic side of cute, so it’s not nearly as cute as most of the other things in the box.
11. Pudding Parfait DIY - its cute, but once you eat it its gone. It’s fleeting cuteness.
That’s it for now guys, in just 3 more boxes I’ll be caught up to my January/Current stuff. I have 2 more boxes coming for the month yet, and as I’ve said, don’t worry because I do have other posts planned. This blog will be active!
Until then, stay cute!
What do dolphins eat? Lessons from how kids search
I recently came across a couple of fascinating papers (here and here) all about how kids search. I found it fascinating in its own right, and also found it thought-provoking in the new ways of searching it showed that had simply never occurred to me. Here are some of the most interesting things I found (though it’s remarkably accessible, and you should totally read the whole thing).
The researchers studied children aged 7-11, and of varying degrees of experience and comfort with the web and with computer-based research. In the course of their study, they identified seven “search roles” (almost like personas) that children display when seeking information:
Many of these are fairly self-explanatory on the surface (though it’s always interesting to read the details) and you may even identify with some of them yourself, as an adult. One of the most interesting to me was what they called the visual searcher.
People don’t all think like you
This was a mode of search that I had rarely found myself in, and had barely even considered could be a thing outside of certain forms of specific image search (e.g. [microsoft logo]). What they found was a cohort of children who turned first to image search for a wide range of their information-gathering needs. In some cases, this appeared to be motivated by discomfort with text and with reading, or at least with scanning and reading fast. In others, though, it seemed to be about veracity and trusting only what you have seen with your own eyes. For those of us who know people who write on the internet, maybe this isn’t the craziest instinct.
One example that has stayed in my mind since I read about it is the experience of certain kids when asked to answer the question what do dolphins eat?
The anecdote that stood out for me was the child who not only turned to image search to answer the question, but did the one-word image search [dolphin] and then scrolled down through pages of results until, having found a picture of a dolphin eating something, turned to the researcher to declare triumphantly that dolphins eat fish.
The lesson here is clearly about the power of observing real-world users. This is the kind of insight that is hard to glean from the raw data of keyword research. Even if you figure out that there is image search volume for [dolphin], you’re some way from the insight that someone is searching for information about what they eat.
This era (the research was published in 2010) was marked by a wide range of qualitative research coming out of Google. I might dive deeper into some other research in another post, but for now, onto the next insight.
There are searches that are hard, and people are failing to complete them
In my presentation and post the next trillion searches, I talked about the incremental search volume available in the coming years as technology progresses to the point that it can satisfy intents, and answer questions that current technology cannot:
One of the things I didn’t talk about in that post was the times that current searcher intent is not fulfilled even though the information is out there and today’s technology is more than capable of finding it. To understand more about what I mean here, let’s take another look at search challenges for kids:
For a start, it’s worth noting that Google can’t answer this query outright. Unlike with more and more factual queries, Google is not able to return a one-box with any answer, never mind the correct answer.
Unsurprisingly, kids struggled with this one (as I suspect would many adults). It tests their ability to string together a sequence of queries, each one building on the last, to discover the answer at the end of the rainbow. And along the way, they have to be sceptical of the information they come across and not get distracted by the pots of fools’ gold:
At certain points along the way, our intrepid searcher may come across pages that purport to give the answer, but which in fact do not for a variety of reasons (not least, as with the example above, that this information can fall easily out of date).
So it combines the ability to break down a question into structured thoughts, achieve complex stringing together of queries, and avoid pitfalls of incorrect and misleading information along the way. How many adults do you know who might trip up on this?
Amazingly, some of the older kids in the study managed to find the correct answer.
If you have kids in your life, try this out
If you have kids, or you have younger siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. I’d strongly encourage anyone interested in search to sit and watch them take on relatively undirected searching tasks while you watch. I think it’s pretty educational (for them!), but I also think there’s a good chance you will learn a good deal. In particular, since this research was done in 2010, it appears to have been entirely desktop-driven. I’d be interested in the mobile-first version if anyone wants to run it and write it up!
Anyway, it turns out my kids are (roughly) in the right age range - at the time of experimenting, my daughter was just turned 8, and my son was 5. My daughter was therefore in the age range, and it was interesting to see how she fared:
Rachel aged 8
She found it fairly easy to find out what dolphins eat. Google coped fine with her misspelling of “dolfin” and she wasn’t fazed by the results coming back for the correct spelling. She didn’t bother reading the “showing results for…” section (nor the paid ad, natch) and skipped straight to the one-box. She scanned it without reading aloud and then answered the question: telling me some things dolphins eat. In the process she went from an unmotivated searcher to a motivated searcher: she got intrigued by what a cephalopod is (it is mentioned in the one-box) and set of on an unprompted search to find out.
The next task was too much for her. She’s British, so I decided to go with prime minister, as I didn’t think she’d know what or who the vice president was. It turns out she wasn’t entirely clear on what a prime minister is either, searching for primeinister. She composed a search that could have worked as a stand-alone query: Google corrected it to [when is the prime minister’s birthday next year]. In fact, Google couldn’t answer this directly, and since it wasn’t quite the actual answer to the question as asked, she got stuck at this point, unable to structure the query quite how she wanted it.
Actually, she probably went slightly too far in the first jump. She probably should have gone with something like [when is the prime minister’s birthday] and followed with [what day is <date> next year] but she didn’t make that logical leap unprompted.
Even though my son was a little young, we thought it’d be fun to see how he fared on the “dolphin” question. The date one was a little too much of a stretch:
Adam aged 5
Interestingly, he spelled “dolfin” the same way as his sister (this must be our failing as parents!) but also went with the phonetic “wat” instead of “what”. Nonetheless, Google was quite happy interpreting his search as [what do dolphins eat] so he got the same one-box as his sister.
Just like her, he skipped everything else on the page to go straight to the one-box. This is probably not that surprising in either of their cases - it’s most likely what adults do, and it’s clearly designed to draw attention with the bright image high up on the page.
What was interesting and different was that he didn’t read the whole thing. At the time of the experiment, he was obviously a less confident reader, and preferred to read aloud rather than in his head. He didn’t scan the one-box for the answer and report it, but interestingly, nor did he read the one-box aloud. Instead, he read only the words in bold.
This isn’t the most obviously crazy strategy (at least in the mind of a 5 year old): it isn’t crazy to think that Google would have bolded the words that are the answers to the question you asked, though search professionals know that’s not what’s really going on here. It started okay but then went a little bit off the rails. Here’s what he read out as the answer to [what do dolphins eat?]:
Fishes
Herring
Killer whales
Mammals
He got a bit confused at “killer whales” and knew he was off-track, but wasn’t sure what had gone wrong.
I think the lesson here is that even though people may primarily use the obvious tools and affordances presented to them, they will also make potentially incorrect assumptions and risk being led astray by well-intentioned sign-posts in the UI.
Some other kids’ misconceptions
One child apparently thought that the autosuggest was a list of answers to the query he was typing. That doesn’t always work perfectly:
But to be fair, it’s not immediately obvious that UX like “people also ask” (which does come with embedded answers where possible):
Is entirely different to related searches which are not necessarily even suggested sensible questions:
And finally, to end on a light-hearted anecdote from the research, probably my favourite story was the child (not mine!) who looked for both dolphins and information about the Vice President of the United States on the SpongeBob SquarePants website.
Presumably unsuccessfully, at least in the case of the VP’s birthday.
This Week in Ontario Edublogs
Settle in your nice warm place and enjoy some of the blog posts from Ontario Edubloggers that I enjoyed lately.
Looking Forward
Peter McAsh shares his love for CBC Radio and listening to podcasts in this recent post on the ECOO blog. There’s been a lot over the past year dealing with Artificial Intelligence but surprisingly little dealing with education. So, Peter asks …
“How will AI impact education? How will education adapt to teach students who will be part of a world with AI?”
Open ended questions, to be sure, but certainly worthy of consideration. The thing about technology is that it can be insidious. As such, you can’t ignore it. Are our systems ignoring it or are they preparing for a world where it’s so available?
Crowd Sourcing Math Problems through the 12 Days of Tweetmas
Ramona Meharg describes an interesting challenge the Thames Valley District School Board held before the holidays – a puzzle or mathematics challenge each day for 12 days – with the students sending out messages about the challenges via Twitter.
Now, a Special Educational Secondary School classroom might not be on the top of your list of candidates to participate but they were in Ramona’s case. Who doesn’t like a good challenge? (Just don’t mention that it’s educational)
Although she had some reservations, they participated and it sounded like they had a great time – including hands on with candy canes.
For those students, social media seemed to have provided a nice opportunity to level the playing field by participating with other classes throughout the district. It’s hard to image another setting where they would be equal players.
Ramona gives a very nice description of how they handled things and is already planning on how to incorporate Google Hangouts into things in the future.
Is there a lesson here for other school districts to copy and implement themselves?
How we #Kahoot!
Whether you prefer to learn via images or text, Laura Wheeler has you covered in this post describing how she uses Kahoot!, the social gaming system, in her mathematics classes.
For Laura, it’s not just a “pick an app and do something” experience. She describes just how many and how she has crafted the activities for her students. It’s not a computer-y thing either; the pictures share a story of all the tools and collaboration that happens.
And, if you want a quick overview, check out her Sketchnote of the process. It boils everything down into one neat overview.
If you’re looking to start with Kahoot! or are looking for a more sophisticated approach, this post will be of special interest.
Duty to Report School Violence
Deborah Weston tagged me in the announcement of this post so I had to check it out. It’s a sobering look at school violence.
In the post, Deborah gives statistics and survey results from ETFO and OECTA. I know that many will agree with her observations and others will be inspired to find out more.
The impact on teachers should be of immediate concern to all.
Hopefully, knowing that you’re not alone, will be just the incentive for all to report issues of violence when they occur.
p.s. This post was written and scheduled Thursday morning. During a Thursday dog walk, I got tagged in another Twitter message alerting me to this post.
2018: Hall-Dennis–Looking Back to Look Ahead
For so many in education these days, the Hall-Dennis report or Living Learning may not even be something that they’ve heard of. And yet, it laid the groundwork for education in Ontario as it stands today.
Canada had just celebrated its Centennial when Premier Bill Davis commissioned the report. Who could forget Expo 67 or Bobby Gimby (if you were around at the time)?
It was an opportunity for Canadians to see the future and why shouldn’t we be visioning the future of education?
youtube
Arguably, one of the most important documents to influence education in the province, the basic messages are still as applicable today as they ever were. To quote Billy Joel, “We didn’t start the fire.”
This post from the Alpha Alternative School shows how it is influenced today by the report.
You can read the report here. (Set aside some time, it’s not a quickie blog post) When you hear people longing for the “good ol’ days”, they may have to go back a great deal further than Hall-Dennis.
The Half Way Mark
I had to reflect back on my own career at year 16 of teaching when I read this post from Tina Zita.
I’m pretty sure that I wasn’t counting the days/years until the end of my teaching career. I think I was more focused on the present. But, Tina is taking a pause to reflect on what she’s done so far and what she’s planning to do for the future. Is this a result of us being so well connected these days?
It’s interesting to note that she’s not focused on major milestones but rather a series of “nudges”. It’s a challenging way to look at things.
The biggest satisfaction that any teacher can have is to have students that reach out after they’ve graduated to note the things or nudges that you gave them.
Give her post a read and see if you can’t see yourself at Year 16 looking forward.
Another week and another great collection of blog posts. Please take a few moments to click through to the original posts and give them a read and drop off a comment or two.
These authors will appreciate it.
Last week, Julie Balen’s post about OneWordOnt was featured here on the blog and has sparked a great deal of conversation and blogging from Ontario Educators. Julie has started a Google+ community for people to share their blog posts. You can enjoy it here. A nice fall out form this is a number of New York state educators jumping in on the conversation and the resulting social media connections. Wouldn’t it be nice if they crossed the Peace Bridge or the Rainbow Bridge and joined us in Niagara Falls for next November’s Bring IT, Together Conference, November 6 – 8th, 2018? I’m cautiously optimistic that the Falls will have thawed out by then.
Blog Eight. Week Eight. Nov 13th
These weeks reading for reflexive practice:
Caroline Kierulf Printmaking and multiple temporalities Journal of Visual Art Practice Vol. 14, Iss. 3, 201
Reflective thoughts
So much to learn in the new language of art. Temporalities Exgenesis Tacit. They are all vehicles to equipping me with a language to express things that I cannot show. Metaphysical, I guess?
Demarcations in so much knowledge seems artificial in practice. There are no absolute delineations. Phenomenological, Metaphysical, Psychoanalytic. The work can possess all. It makes me think deeply about the nature of knowledge itself. For this reason I have been reading the grand master on knowledge: Michel Foucault.
Foucault, Michel. Power/Knowledge, Brighton: Harvester.
(1980)Foucault, Michel. (1991) (first published in 1984) ‘What is an author’ in Paul Rainbow
After the practice described below, I also began to think about the merging and separation of colours on the lino prints. There is such a starkness to them.
I looked up Albers on colours
Albers, Anni. Albers Foundation Available at http://www.albersfoundation.org/
Practice
I completed several full day length tuition sessions with Justin the Print Room technician again. He has been kind enough to allow me to attend all the first year BA introductions. These sessions have been very thorough and detailed. Here are some details and photo from my Lino and Woodcut Sessions and Paper Tearing etc:
I took a lot of notes as it was fascinating. Excuse my shorthand noteform.
Print Room Notes
Squeezing and touching all the papers
Independent working when trusted!
The different types of paper grain are important in printmaking The paper grain is stringy if pushed against
Rough Not Hot Pressed
Rough is rough Not is in between Ish and hot pressed is smooth Lots of terms to learn in paper knowledge
Gampi fine sheen Duchet pronounced douche is rough - embossing? Check the gram of papers Get to know them
John Purcell paper London Somerset velvet etc Ask for samples 400-600 gram (Check out 20x20 hot bed press print exchange)
Consider what supports you are using (what you are printing on?) Canvas Leather Paper Plastic
Paper Tearing Deckol - Torn edge Moving paper around - hold it by its weight each edge
Back tear paper Boning tool Folding tool Zines Match corners Will need to get registration correct - draw around it and mark on back of plate if poss Use a straight edge - big steel ruler Use the straight edge of this not the slating edge! Use weight to hold ruler down firmly and tear towards you Vary the tear
Registration - This is hugely important Mark the paper and the Lino Light fold Number (So that it always sits in the same place as you add different colours etc) Some may tape it? Hand burnishing - printing without a press
Other issues
Types of wood types of tools etc
Wood cutting. Bring own set of tools. You can begin to construct this. Not too pliable Wire brush can create texture. You can alter and tailor tools. Go to car boots pick up old tools. Sharpen adjust etc. Also look for wood and mdf etc in skips. Whittle. Sharpen chisels etc
Learn about Japanese wood cuts Horikoshi great wave Mount fugitive etc What is the composite?
The grain of wood. Pine Oak Ash Box wood Dremmos Bouncers
Thomas Buick Metal engraving tools Thinking tools? Intaglio
Different colours for different blocks Suicide method? Reduction method
Process we followed
Cutting out Lino Print then cut out more Print with different colour
Wood Cut out Print Ghost print etc
Angles shallow Do not want to create bellies to a line
Mushroom button shaped tools Place in heal of hand Rotate the piece ( see cross hatching Michael Angelo) Create tone
The marks you cut out will be the whites on the print Same tools for wood and Lino
Start with lightest colour first for Lino print Go back and cut out some more Couloirs ( green over yellow to make red?)
Gouges name of tool Kiss of the ink Andrew Coleman
Critical Evaluation
Here are some important Notes on Critical Evaluation that Esther posted on facebook: It was written for the CET full timers, but I can use it still.
Critical Evaluation is a means by which you reflect upon and critically evaluate your arts-based and/ or written practice in an objective manner. The completion of this form provides an opportunity for you to survey your arts-based and/ or written submissions, comment upon them and where appropriate to review your direction. You should also reflect upon your experience and participation as a whole. It should provide the basis for your development. You are invited to give details of the nature of your submission/s, identify what you regard the key achievements to be in the Stage you have just completed. Please identify what you regard the strengths, weakness and issues of importance to be. Practice led students should also give details of reading material appropriate to their individual study.
Observations
You are invited to give details of the nature of your submission/s, (What was it? Title? materials ? where is was sited,? what was included ? )
Identify what you regard the key achievements to be in the Stage you have just completed. What is the biggest thing(s) you achieved in developing and putting the work in CET and build up to it ?
Evaluation
Identify what you regard the strengths, weakness and issues of importance to be.(as it says – applied to your work in this show)
You should also reflect upon your experience and participation as a whole What did you do in your groups and what did you learn, how was it to adapt and deal with practical challenges of showing at CET, did you make new relationships and connections to BCU and has this made you think about being an artists in future and what you are good at, how you work in a team, resolve problems with your work others and the space you might be in?)
Review your direction. (what would you like to do now to develop this work , what ambitions do you have for your practice or this part of your work, how has this made you think about the direction your work is going in to progress challenge and experiment, can you take other risks or a different nature now or read more about idea or types of practice?) Reading Material (where appropriate) (Please also include a link to your blog)
Should also give details of reading material appropriate to their individual study. What are your theory or book references or artists or history you reference ?
Websites portfolios bogs etc if you have them? Student’s Signature: esther windsor
Rose Likely Version Components: The nature of the submission included technical report, works in a range of materials including and in depth production of print materials. Process evidence.
Critical Evaluation Ongoing reflection and critical Evaluation took place throughout the research period. This is recorded in supplementary documentation.
Key achievements included an improved knowledge of research led practice Learning from process
Review your direction The learning in this module identified gaps in knowledge and exciting paths to expand
Macaroni Art
I’ve had the concept of this blog post in my head for months now; I’ve written and rewritten paragraphs of it in my head too many times to count. But I’ve resisted taking it from my head and heart and putting it down in actual words because I’m still struggling with this concept. And there’s a strong voice inside my head telling me I should only write about these things when I’ve learned the lesson. Or, at the very least, when I’m re-learning this lesson less often than once every third or fourth day.
And that is as good a point as any to springboard this post from: Hello, my name is Dani and I’m a minor sort of kind of perfectionist.
Sometimes, this isn’t too much of a bad thing: it means I produce what people tend to label good quality work. It means I care about projects enough to go the extra mile, sometimes. But, as with anything not completely under the lordship of Jesus, it can also be a very bad thing. For starters, it makes me almost desperate to hear people saying out loud that they find me excellent. I need to hear, or read in black and white, that they find my work and my personality pleasing; that what I present to them is worth investing in, is worth spending some of their busy time on, is worth its weight in ink or flesh and is without as much fault as possible. I say my work and my personality, but in reality the line between the two is often blurred beyond recognition. I find, very often, that I’ve placed my identity in what I have done, and if people find fault with my work it’s as though they’re finding fault with me. And if people find fault with me… it’s earth-shattering each time.
As you can imagine, this is a problem. It’s not healthy, it’s not actually achievable and it hurts all sorts of different relationships. But if it’s a problem between me and people, then there’s no word for the kind of huge barrier it is between God and I. For starters, Christianity is based on the “saved not by works but by grace” concept. It’s a concept I fight subconsciously every time I hear it; an internal monologue of, “Yes, Jesus saved us before we did anything for Him. But the Bible then says He calls us to be holy. Look at all those passages of the things you need to not do when you have Christ in you. Look at that verse in John that says if you love Him, you’ll obey Him. So you’re saved by grace, okay, but then after that you need to step up to the plate and do things for God!”
It’s a problem. It’s a problem, because I’m actually not that great a person. Which means that I screw up regularly, in ways that leave me devastated and horrified and weeping. It’s a problem because every time I don’t live up to my own standards of who I think I should be or who I want to be, I go through a miniature crisis. These crises have included me deciding to give up Christianity because I was just so absolutely done with not getting the simplest of things right. (Thank God for friends who pretty much dragged my butt back to church and then slapped some sense into me.) These crises have included moments of me sitting on my bed, thinking maybe it’s time for me to just cut off all close friendships, because as much as I try to be a good friend I undo all of that goodness in the times I screw up so absolutely royally. I don’t want to be somebody’s friend if the cost of being my friend is higher than the reward. And I don’t let them decide how high the cost or reward is, of course; that standard is set in my head.
It’s a problem. It’s a problem because my faith gets shaken every time I don’t ascend to the next level of Christianity. It’s a problem when yet another church event doesn’t give me my God Moment like I prayed it would and I fall to pieces for a week afterwards. It’s a problem when I don’t know how to face Jesus because I still am not doing even the basics of Christianity right. It’s a problem, because I want so badly to be pleasing to Him and living for Him and giving off His light and loving Him wholly that when I don’t do these things I want to run away from Him completely. Because if I can’t give Jesus – my Saviour, the creator of the universe, the holiest of holies – the best me I can be, I don’t want Him to have to deal with me.
With every screaming fibre of my being I, the perfectionist, do not want to be That Child of God that all the angels whisper about and shake their heads at disapprovingly. “God has given up everything for that girl, and do you know what she just did again?”
God has given me dry macaroni and glue and paper, and I want to cook enough pasta to feed the hungry in my vicinity, use the glue to fix all the broken crockery and ornaments in sight and use the paper to write Him ballads He can use for His glory. Instead of doing what I want, I make him corny macaroni art. Bits of dry pasta stuck to the page in a dubious parody of a person or animal or shape. And when He comes to check on me, instead of pots of food and fixed things and ballads, I can only show him the still-sticky macaroni art.
And here’s the thing – here’s the crux of the matter I am still trying to learn because it is so counter-intuitive and so freaking crazy that my mind rebels against it being more than just a platitude meant to make me feel better. The truth that I’m trying to learn is this: God doesn’t yell about the failed cooking, fixing and writing. He doesn’t even pat my head awkwardly and mutter, “That’s nice” and move on. He does the Dad thing: he picks up the art and wows at it. He asks questions about it. He tells me I’ve done well and that He loves it. And then He takes that tacky, stupid piece of macaroni art and He hangs it on His wall. Right next to all the equally tacky stuff I’ve done before. And He makes sure everybody sees it; He is never ashamed of it. He loves it, because I made it for Him and He loves me.
God wants us to grow closer to Him and therefore more holy and more changed and more adept to give His love to the rest of the world. But He also delights in whatever small thing we give Him. He is proud when we do something tiny. He is there and eager when we give Him five minutes of prayer, not resentful because He knows we could have given Him an hour. We don’t have to be perfect. Because He’s genuinely delighted with the macaroni art we present to Him with humility and love.
He’s fine with us not being perfect – He’s perfect enough for all of us.
It’s going to take a while longer, I think, for that to sink into my head and heart. But I’m going to keep trying to let it wash over me. And, in that spirit, I made myself sit down and write God a poem. Because I’ve never, ever been able to turn myself into a poet; because sharing something I don’t think is perfect is alarming to me; because forcing myself to write it in a “childish” way instead of trying to be all cool and hard-hitting-phrases about it is making me want to cover my face in embarrassment. Because I know He likes it, despite the fact that I don’t and despite the fact that it won’t ever hit somebody around the head with feels. So here it is, to end this blog post off with less than a bang – another version of macaroni art for God:
Thank You for being the God of the big prayers For being the God of the tiniest details For being the God who gives victory And who loves even through the fails
Thanks for catching my tears And making mountains echo my laughter Thanks for the past You helped me through And Your promises to be here even after
Thanks for asking for only what I can give And filling up all the spots I fall short Thanks for pulling me into rough seas I can walk on And for leading me to an overflowing port
Thank You for being the only One Who’s never hurt me with a single word Thank You for not minding all of the Times I’ve had to be reassured
Thank You for using me to carry You; A cup full of dirty marks and cracks Thank you that You’ve marked my path and Gently close my eyes when I wanna look back
Thank You for roaring and fighting my enemies And then using those same hands to hold me close Thank You for making stars and mountains and fire and rainbows And for still loving me the most
For two wizards from opposite worlds, only fate knows if a future awaits them.
Blurb When a group of intrepid sorcerers leaves their government, Prism Wizard Vadimas Porfyra is selected to lead them. After centuries of denying his chosen school of magic, Vadimas is embracing the full power of his hue. Busy ruling the Spectra Wizardry, he believes the only thing missing from life is a tidier house. Treasured by the large D’Vaire family, Vadimas is content and not seeking anything beyond knowledge. Far from the Council of Sorcery and Shifters is Arch Wizard Severin Dewitt, the Fate-chosen leader of the wizards. Little is known about the man whose wrist is marked by lightning. Severin is rarely seen, and unbeknownst to most, inside a house he cannot leave, his every move is being watched. Yearning for freedom, Severin must take matters into his own hands to forge his own destiny. The Consilium Veneficus considers Vadimas an upstart and a traitor, so when he and Severin find out Fate has chosen them as a couple, there is little consensus on what the future holds. Severin’s knowledge of Fate is minimal, making it difficult for him to accept that a matebond rises above everything, while Vadimas trusts her fully, pushing their relationship to the brink. Will distance, separate goals, and the ocean separating their populations of wizards stand between Vadimas and Severin forever, or can the two compromise to build a future together? Excerpt Confident that he looked the part of leader, though he lacked the mark of lightning given to the wizard leader he was about to meet, Vadimas waited for Myrddin to fly up onto his shoulder. His familiar in place, Vadimas strode purposefully into the building, and the dragons helped him breeze through their checkpoints. Previously an oddball with no clout, he now traversed to the Office of the Emperor at least weekly, so he knew the dukes by name. A quick trip up the elevator and yet one more duke to exchange pleasantries with, and Vadimas made it to the main reception area. “Hi, Vadimas. Did you hit any traffic?” Royal Duke-mate Niko Draconis asked as he rushed over to give him a hug. “Not at all, is everyone waiting for me?” “Yes, go on in.” “Are you coming too?” Niko shook his head. “No, Costas will give me the full rundown afterward. I’m going to get caught up on some work while I wait for my mate.” “Well, no time like the present to find out what has brought the Arch Wizard out of hiding.” “Good luck.” The doors to the office were wide open, so Vadimas strolled through the gorgeous space that the Emperors shared with three of their dukes. Off to the left, he could barely see Ducblanc-mate Tiridythas D’Vaire concentrating on his sewing machine. Vadimas couldn’t remember another instance when the door to his workshop was closed, but with the dukes in with Their Majesties, Vadimas assumed his other half, Ducblanc Zane Draconis, had insisted. Only allowing himself a moment to square his shoulders and strengthen his resolve, Vadimas turned the door handle to the boardroom and pulled it open. Myrddin made a strange noise and flew off his shoulder as Vadimas’s body went crazy. The smell of a newly printed book filled his nose—a scent Vadimas had never found an equal to—and his balls tingled while his cock nearly made a fool of him as it tented his slacks. He tugged his cloak over his erection as his gaze sought out a wizard with heterochromia iridum. One eye was the same violet as Vadimas’s own gaze, and the other was a bright goldish yellow, though they were both widened with shock as he stared. His flaxen blond hair brushed his shoulders in chunky layers, and his face was almost delicate in its symmetry. As soon as Vadimas could get air in his lungs, he realized that not only was the Arch Wizard his mate, but he was the only sorcerer he knew of with two distinct hues of the rainbow—and each one was a separate pool of magic. They were nulled by what he suspected was a cuff he’d recently helped intensify. Now only one cuff was necessary, so suspects or prisoners could be deprived of their Fate-chosen ability to shift or cast without both their arms behind or in front of them like traditional restraints. A meow reached his ears, and that was when Vadimas noticed the cat clutched in the Arch Wizard’s grasp. Like the sorcerer himself, he was dual-eyed, and his features were nearly dainty. Myrddin was making a nuisance of himself by standing on the table in front of the Arch Wizard and bumping his head into the cat, who was sniffing the dragon suspiciously. “Prism Wizard Vadimas Porfyra of the Spectra Wizardry, allow me to present Arch Wizard Severin Dewitt and his familiar, Emrys,” Alaric said. “Arch Wizard, the dragon licking your cat is named Myrddin.” Vadimas wasn’t going to comment on the fact that they’d both picked names for their familiars from Arthurian legend and in the same language. “Myrddin, leave Emrys alone,” Vadimas ordered, though his dragon blithely ignored him. The cat was lolling his head into Myrddin, and they appeared to be having a great time, so he gave his attention to the still-staring Arch Wizard. Since he’d taken up the role of Prism Wizard, he’d never once considered he would be called by Fate as a leader. For decades, he’d allowed inadequacies to fester as he faced people who had been, so it was quite a shock to find that his mate was the one selected to rule. As far as being someone’s other half, Vadimas had no clue where to begin. He was good at being a wizard and had long ago shaken off any idea of deficiency, but he had no confidence in his skills as a potential partner. Gathering his thoughts, Vadimas couldn’t quite manage a smile as he wondered what in the world to do. It was so unusual for him not to have the assurance to trudge forth after assessing the best way to tackle a problem that he was at a loss for words. “Arch Wizard, I like your cat.” Closing his eyes, Vadimas shook his head at his own idiocy. Severin appeared almost trancelike as he stood up slowly, and Emrys leapt out of his hold to join Myrddin on Their Majesties’ giant table. “I was told Fate would help you know who she selected as a possible mate, but I didn’t expect…so much.” Bristling at the word “possible,” Vadimas pulled himself together. “Yes, well, it would be no use for her to give you a mate if she did not give you an undeniable way of discovering them.”
