Dubai: The First Government To Put Its Transactions On A Blockchain
Dubai Land Department (DLD) has become the world`s first government to adopt Blockchain technology as part of its “Dubai Blockchain Strategy”. The project has been led by the Crown Price of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Foundation for the Future, His Highness Sheikh Hamadan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. DLD will launch the initiative at GITEX Technology Week 2017, running from 8 to 12 October at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC). “Our adoption of this system is aligned with our commitment to responding to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.”, commented His Excellency Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of DLD. “Following the launch of the Dubai Blockchain Strategy by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed in October 2016, which aims to make Dubai the first government in the world to apply all transactions through this network by 2020, DLD created a smart and secure database that records all real estate contracts. This makes DLD the first government entity in the world to implement all of its transactions through the Blockchain network. “, as he elaborated. “This initiative is still in a stage of infancy. In the near future, we will see many partners joining Blockchain to improve their client services, including banking, mortgages, and utilities and maintenance operations.”, according to bin Mejren. DLD has created the blockchain system by using a smart and secure database that records real estate contracts like lease registrations. Then, the information is being linked with the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), the telecommunication system, and various property related bills, as stated in the government`s press release. Full information about the DLD work can be found on the following link. Read the full article

BlackBerry loses the keyboard for new water-resistant smartphone
The newly unveiled BlackBerry Motion is the brand's first smartphone to ditch its trademark QWERTY keyboard.
Blackberry previously pledged to not make any more hardware – however new Blackberry Mobile devices are instead being introduced by Chinese partner company TCL.
The Blackberry Motion marks the brand's first shift towards a primarily touchscreen interface, a staple of rivals like Apple and Samsung.
Instead of the plastic QWERTY keyboard typical of Blackberry phones, the Motion features a 5.5-inch HD display.
It also features a 4000mAH battery, giving it a longer life than previous models, and a dust- and water-resistant IP67 rating, which means it will be able to withstand being submerged in fresh water at a depth of one metre for up to 30 minutes.
The BlackBerry Motion was officially unveiled in a low-key fashion at GITEX Technology Week in Dubai a week ago, after pictures were leaked on Twitter by technology blogger Evan Blass.
It received a luke-warm reception from critics. In The Register, Simon Sharwood said it "will move you neither to tears of joy nor sadness", while Tech Radar reviewer Abbas Jaffar Ali said "the design and specs aren't much to get excited about".
The device runs on a Snapdragon 625 SoC processor, comes with 4GB of Ram, 32GB of storage, a fingerprint reader, and 12 and 8MP cameras on the back and front, respectively. It runs on Android 7.1.
The BlackBerry Motion is the second remodelled BlackBerry launch following the release of the KEYone smartphone earlier this year. Unlike the Motion, the KEYone features a keyboard under its touchscreen.
Formerly known as Research in Motion (1982 to 2013), BlackBerry sold its handheld branding rights to TCL in December 2016, following an announcement by the Canadian company earlier that year that it would stop making its own phones, to concentrate on services and software.
It has been reported that the Motion will initially only be available in the UAE and Saudi Arabia and will retail at around $460. Launch dates for other markets are yet to be announced.
The stealth launch came less than a month after the hotly anticipated unveiling of Apple's iPhone 8, which breaks new ground with its augmented-reality technology compatibility and wireless-charging capabilities.

Fourth industrial revolution front and center at GITEX
By Paul Walsh, SVP- Platform Strategy & Innovation, Visa
Paul Walsh, Visa’s Senior Vice President of Platform Strategy & Innovation spoke at Gitex 2017 in Dubai, UAE this week. Below are his thoughts on his engagement with one of the Middle East and Africa regions’s most important innovation and technology showcases:
“Landing in the UAE to speak at the annual GITEX Technology Week it quickly became clear that I was visiting a country that has fully embraced the so-called ‘fourth industrial revolution’.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Klaus Schwab, the fourth industrial revolution fuses the “physical, digital, and biological spheres; ”[1] and prior to my on-stage discussion on “the new norm: disruption through innovation” I had a chance to walk around GITEX to explore some great examples of people, machines and software interacting to deliver new customer experiences.
GITEX Future Stars showcased the technology of tomorrow conceptualized by startups from around the world. Over at the main hall, Visa had a Bentley prototype of the Connected Car on display, which showed how payment transactions can be integrated into everyday machines to deliver a seamless, hassle-free customer experience. Paying for parking to pizza right from the car’s console showed the art of the possible for connected cars of the future.
Making technology invisible and taking friction out of the payment experience was one of several recommendations I made to delegates during my talk. By 2020, there will be around 21 billion connected devices, which means 21 billion ways to pay AND over 44 zettabytes of data in existence. What we do with the information and opportunity is pivotal. Merchants need to think about how to use connected devices and the volume of data to deeply understand their customers and to anticipate how they are interacting with technology in order to deliver contextual offers and richer experiences.
Another key point I conveyed to the audience was that they are not alone in this process. In fact, brands working together to co-create solutions, the “omnichannel” approach, is one of the keys to disruption through innovation. This is the crux of Visa’s more open approach to developing new solutions through our Visa Developer Platform. The platform provides simplified access to many of Visa’s most in-demand products and services through an open network of Visa APIs, allowing partners to transform great ideas into new digital commerce experiences. We should not operate as singular organizations coming up with the next big thing anymore; yet operate in a system of sharing our skillsets and expertise to accelerate the ideas and solutions of tomorrow.
That is why we opened our Innovation Centers around the world. We invite the region’s most forward-thinking companies and public sector organizations to collaborate with us and develop safe, innovative payment offerings to enable seamless commerce moments. The connected car is a product of the collaboration sessions and we welcome partners to help ideate around our next great challenge in Dubai, Smart Cities.
GITEX Technology Week was a great platform to place a well-timed spotlight on the huge range of opportunities being created, and increasingly co-created, by the fourth industrial revolution.”

Meet One, the App that Houses All Your Social Media Profile Links Under One Roof
In today’s world, it’s not enough to have a Facebook profile. There are many other social apps and platforms where we now spend most of our time interacting with friends, colleagues and family. There are many apps and services that make it so easy to manage most of our accounts on the various social networks we are like posting simultaneously and what not. However, there are not so many such apps and services when it comes to making it easy to get us on those social networks.
If you are to give out a link to one of the social networks you are in which one will it be? A link to your professional profile on LinkedIn? Your personal website? Your Instagram page? Facebook? Twitter?
Honestly, it’s all a mess. It’s this dilemma that sees us somehow use our social media bio pages to paste many links to yet other social media profiles in the hope that anyone who needs to keep up with our affairs online would be able to easily follow the trail.
What if you didn’t have to do all that and you could have just one link to share with everyone that contained all links to your social media (and other) profiles as well as quick contact information like a phone number?
That, in a nutshell, is what One, an app I stumbled upon at the Dubai Internet City stand at the ongoing GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, does.
According to Farid Jumah, the app’s creator and one of the founders of One, their app’s simple mission is to make it less of a pain to share your public information online. From my 2 days of trying out the app, that is what it exactly does.
Signing up is easy. One is presented with an option to sign up using their Facebook account or an email address. Using the former makes it easy to look for and find any friends who may have already signed up for a One ID. Using the latter option means that you are essentially building your One presence from scratch and the only way to add new friends is by searching for them on the app using their username.
Once one has signed up to One, they get a public page tied with their @username, Twitter/Medium style. For instance, my One profile can be found at GoOne.co/@echenze. Something that reminds me of about.me and its premise of a single online identity to rule them all. This public page then displays shortcuts to one’s profiles on the many social platforms they are in be it Skype, SoundCloud, Snapchat or even Foursquare among several others.
I was deeply concerned about having my phone number out in the open since it was needed for the sake of adding my WhatsApp account but my fears were allayed when I found out that such sensitive information (including the date of birth) is hidden from the prying eyes of the public by default until you become friends with someone on One (creating yet another social network?).

В 2017 году на улицы Дубая выйдет первый робот-полицейский
http://ipv2.info
Департамент полиции Дубая представил первого робота-полицейского, который приступит к работе в городских условиях с 2017 года. Презентация состоялась в пределах 36-й международной выставки информационных технологий региона Персидского злива GITEX Technology Week 2016.
