went to the card shop yesterday. I only won one game, but that's because I picked Gishath and the rest of the pod said "let's test the new precons here". I asked them if they'd prefer I swap off, since Gishath is infamous for what it does to precons but they told me to play it out.

Pubstomping is real and you should listen to the trans woman at your lgs when she warns you what she's playing. 5 mana and a dream got me finishing off a pod before I even get to cast my commander. Savage Ordering a Ghalta stampede tyrant with a grip of big boys (and itzquinth) will result in a pull ahead so far gone that the pod realizes their dead before you haste swing with Rythm out. One shouldn't boast of beating weaker foe, but it feels good to see the deck misfire (the ramp went out for cigarettes that game) and STILL bare fangs.

I love coming back to the game after taking a year or so off, feels like I’m a lich emerging from his tower and seeing how the world has changed since my slumber.

You gotta appreciate the verisimilitude of Magic the Gathering. You can spend hours pouring through archives to find the perfect spell. Some of the truly ancient stuff is forbidden, but the spells these new wizards cast scare me. Back in my day we made due with Lightning Bolt and a Storm Crow. Yesterday someone discovered Waltz of Rage and exploded the person standing next to them.
