she's her daddy's girl, her momma's world - chapter 38
Easter time is here
it's Maya's first Easter!
shoutout to @backyard-shenanigans1 for the prompt!
Read on AO3 or below
“OK, I think that’s everything,” Stella said as she placed Maya’s stuffed diaper bag with the plethora of other stuff near the front door. “We should be good to go!”
Kelly checked from his spot in the kitchen. His attention was fully on finishing feeding Maya, the six-month-old just having started experimenting with eating solids, but he spared a playful look towards Stella. “I hope so. I don’t think there’s anything else in the loft you could pack.”
Stella rolled her eyes and went back to checking each of the bags.
“Stel, seriously, we’re not even going to be gone for a full weekend. I promise we have everything we need.”
Stella sighed but left the bags alone. She made her way over to the kitchen and leaned against the counter. “What if we forgot something?”
“We’re going to my mom’s house, just a few hours away. If we did forget something, we could easily run to the store and grab it.” Kelly soothed, walking over to stand behind Stella. He put his hands on Stella’s shoulders and started massaging gently. “Relax honey.”
“It’s Maya’s first Easter, I just want it to be perfect.” Stella moaned, leaning back against Kelly.
Stella had never been incredibly sentimental, even for Maya’s first few holidays, but then she got RSV and had to be hospitalized and it freaked Kelly and Stella out far more than they were willing to admit. They weren’t close to losing Maya, something both of her parents knew and were thankful for, but it was a wake-up call for them. Now, Stella was bound and determined to enjoy every day with Maya and celebrate all the holidays and milestones even if Maya wasn’t old enough to remember them.
Kelly was just along for the ride, there to love his girls and keep Stella grounded when the stress of all the “special moments” got to be too much. Times like now. He wrapped his arms around Stella’s waist and hugged her close, placing a kiss on her temple. “We’re going to have a nice weekend together as a family and Maya is going to have as much fun as her little six-month-old body can handle. All of that is going to make this weekend perfect.”
Stella hummed and turned around to face Kelly, wrapping her arms around his neck. “All these years and you still know just what to say.”
Kelly smiled but before he could respond there was a screech from the kitchen and the messy baby currently trapped in her high chair and wanting attention. The parents chuckled and broke away from each other.
“Do you want to get the yogurt monster cleaned up or pack the car?” Kelly asked playfully, eyebrow raised.
Stella laughed. “I’ll take Maya.”
Kelly nodded, gave Stella one last kiss, and moved away to start loading all of their bags into the car. Stella made her way over to Maya and groaned, noticing the baby had somehow gotten yogurt all over her face and in her hair despite being clean when Kelly fed her.
“How’d you get so messy, huh?” Stella asked, grabbing some wipes to try and clean Maya off.
The only response Stella got in return was a smile, a giggle, and more yogurt.
… … …
The Severides were on the road an hour later than planned, thanks to the needed but unplanned bath Maya needed, but it was still early enough that the roads were surprisingly clear. Thanks to her early morning wake-up, Maya slept for most of the car ride, allowing her parents a few quiet hours to talk.
They made great time and arrived at Jennifer’s house with plenty of time for Jennifer to love on Maya before the baby went down for her nap. Kelly and Stella talked with Jennifer over lunch and when Maya woke up the real fun began.
A giant spring festival with music, games, Easter bunny pictures, and Easter egg hunts was happening in the city square. Even though Maya wouldn’t be able to participate in too many things, the family decided to go. The weather was perfect and some time outside would do them all some good.
It was a very child-friendly festival and had activities and egg hunts for kids of all ages, even infants. Maya loved getting to play with other babies her age, looking at the animals at the small petting zoo, tasting the tiny bits of food her parents would share with her, everything….except the Easter bunny. She hated the Easter bunny and every single picture Kelly, Stella, and Jennifer got of their meeting had Maya giving the poor guy the meanest stare she could manage.
Jennifer tsked playfully at Kelly as she looked at the pictures they got. “She definitely got that look from you.”
Stella cackled and soon Kelly joined in. He couldn’t argue—Maya might look like Stella, but she inherited his facial expressions.
Maya started losing steam after a few hours. The family headed back to Jennifer’s so Maya could nap and they could all rest up for the next day’s activities. It was going to be a long day, complete with the long drive back to Chicago, and they all needed to rest.
… … …
Easter morning dawned bright and early with Maya waking up just as the sun was peaking over the horizon. Kelly brought her into bed so Stella could feed her. When she was done, Stella laid Maya in between her and Kelly, hoping the little girl would fall back asleep for a little while longer.
Unfortunately for her tired parents, Maya found playing with her feet and giggling at her mommy and daddy to be way more entertaining.
The little family of three spent a few lazy, peaceful hours in bed before they could no longer ignore the need to get up for the day (and the need for coffee). They met Jennifer in the kitchen and the three adults worked together to make breakfast, Maya being passed between them for cuddles and attention.
They had a few minutes after finishing breakfast before they needed to get ready for church. As Kelly, Stella, and Maya relaxed on the couches in the living room, Jennifer slipped into her room before returning a few seconds later with a large, pink basket in her hands and a huge smile on her face.
“Maya’s Easter basket,” Jennifer answered as if it was the most obvious thing. She laid a blanket out on the floor before moving the basket and setting it up on the ground.
“What’s all that?” Kelly asked as he watched his mom sit the basket down on the coffee table. It was a BIG basket, overflowing with toys, snacks, books, and clothes, with more that Kelly couldn’t see.
Stella, who had Maya on her lap, sat the baby on the blanket in front of the basket. Everyone laughed when they saw Maya’s eyes widen at the sight in front of her and her chubby little hands immediately started reaching for all the contents inside.
Kelly shook his head with playful disbelief. “Mom, she’s six months old…. That basket is three times her size!”
“It’s her first Easter, Kelly,” Jennifer declared, glaring at her son before turning her attention back to her granddaughter. “She deserves a special Easter basket.”
Kelly scoffed but didn’t say anything else, just sipped his coffee and watched the scene in front of him. He knew better than to try and talk his mom out of spoiling his daughter—she’d been doing it since before Maya was even born.
They all watched Maya explore her basket for a few more minutes before they had to start getting ready for the rest of the morning’s activities.
Church wasn’t really Kelly and Stella’s thing; they usually only found themselves in a church for special occasions like weddings, baptisms, and funerals. Jennifer, however, attended regularly and insisted that Kelly, Stella, and Maya join her for the Easter Sunday service while they were visiting.
Kelly and Stella eventually agreed but it led to Stella having a minor freak out about an Easter dress for Maya. That, in turn, developed into coordinating outfits for the family.
The sanctuary was packed, as was typical for holiday services, and Maya did surprisingly well at keeping quiet during the service.
Jennifer, ever the proud grandmother, took Maya around after church was over and introduced all of her friends to her granddaughter. Maya thrived at all the attention, smiling and giggling with every introduction.
“Thank god she never went through the ‘stranger danger’ phase.” Kelly joked as he and Stella watched from a distance, smiling at the sight of Maya. “She might’ve withered away from lack of attention.”
Stella snorted. “Stop it. Everyone loves cute babies. She just happens to be the cutest baby ever. And the happiest.”
Kelly couldn’t argue with that.
After Maya’s parade through the sanctuary, they headed out for an Easter lunch before saying goodbye to Jennifer and heading back to Chicago. The trip home wasn’t nearly as peaceful, with Maya fighting her nap and fussing the entire way home.
Even with an overtired baby crying in the backseat and a 24-hour shift waiting for them the next day, there were no regrets about the weekend—Maya’s first Easter was a success.

Rheese + Sarah pregnant and they're trying to keep it a secret but it accidently gets revealed in the middle of the ED
So this was supposed to be the first prompt in my 25 Advent Writing challenge. But I'm writing the first four or five days early because I think I'll be house-sitting for someone and won't have my computer with me. Just my iPad and phone so I won't be able to format things like I want. And so I wrote this and now I'm chomping at the bit, so excited in my seat to share it. So it's coming out early. Hope you don't mind @girlinlotsoffandoms! If you want you can send in another prompt. This is also slightly different than what you probably had in mind, but when this popped into my ask box, this is all I thought about. Well, this and a slight scene in my amnesia au. But ultimately, I went with my Voight Family Values au because my brain went to pain and angst. And this what if this takes place in Chapter 4 of Hold On, I Still Want You (Rating E, Minors DNI) and where this little drabble is set is below the read more if you're interested where this fits. Also TW: for inaccurate depictions of medical situations and a miscarriage that does not happen, but still thought I should put a warning here.
"Connor, there's something else... It doesn't have to do with her wounds exactly, but..." Then Ava bit her lip as she trailed off. Hesitating before she handed him the iPad with Sarah's blood panels that were taken when she arrived in the ED pulled up.
"Her HBC levels are slightly elevated. And we both know what that means..."
"Sarah's pregnant?" Connor questioned, softly. His hand reached up as if to trace the proof that told him his lover was pregnant. Ava nodded, continuing to explain. "By my estimation with how elevated her levels are..."
"She's at least seven weeks along." He said slowly, doing his own math in his head before he handed the tablet back to Ava and ran his hands through his hair. The silence that filled the space was deafening because this was not how he was supposed to find out he was going to be a father.
With her in a hospital bed, a gunshot wound to the neck. She didn't even tell him. Instead, he had to learn this from Ava and a blood panel. Would she have even told him? Is this why she was acting weird yesterday and the day before? Did she know then? Was she trying to work up the courage to tell him then?
Ava nodded at his words. Then the female surgeon said quietly, "I know this isn't my business, but I'm assuming with how I found you and her two months ago, that the baby is yours-"
The baby had to be his. Sarah spent five nights out of the week with him, at his place. So he nodded and the blonde continued. "And that's the only reason I'm telling you anything about this and working this loophole with patient confidentiality. Because as soon as I knew about the pregnancy, I did an ultrasound. With the amount of blood lost and trauma, her body has gone through..."
Connor felt everything in his body seize and stiffen in the chair he was sitting in. Because he had heard the speech before. He had made it himself before. He had only just found out about this baby and now Ava was telling him he could potentially lose his lover and his baby both? His partner at work must've read his body language or seen the alarmed look on his face because she was quick to hold up her hands.
"They're both fine. Like I said before, it's almost like she had a shield in front of her because Sarah and your baby both are going to be okay." Ava reassured him. Instantly he could breathe again.
“Thank you,” Connor exhaled audibly and said in a sincere tone, “I know you really don’t care for trauma. But you helped her when I couldn’t.”
The blonde smirked at him, “We both know that you would’ve. If I hadn’t been there. Or at least tried.”
It was after Ava left that Connor perched himself on Sarah's hospital bed. He ran a hand down her face in a gentle caress. Then his hand drifted down to her stomach to cradle their baby. Their baby. He pressed his lips to her forehead.
"Did you know baby? Were you nervous to tell me? Is that why you were acting weird these last few days?" He whispered in a soft, tender voice, "Or was it something else and you didn't even know yet?"
OB wasn't his specialty and he only handled a pregnancy if it came along with a trauma or it was another emergency situation. So he couldn't remember if the symptoms started this early in the pregnancy. "Are you waking up to a surprise too, baby?"
Another soft kiss was pressed to her forehead. "Either way, you don't have to worry Sarah. I'm here, baby. I'm not going anywhere."
He was texting Lindsay about her transfer when Ava walked into the room. “I’ve been in contact with Detective Lindsay.” At Connor’s look of confusion, the blonde woman continued, “She’s Sarah's emergency contact. She also has medical power of attorney. She has told me, I can share information with you about Sarah’s case.” “So how bad was it?” He asked, seeing her face and bracing for the worst. But to his relief, his partner in the field of sorts, held up her hands with the beginnings of a smile on her face. “She did really well, all things considered. We had to give her three more units of blood and one plasma. She got lucky, with the way the bullets went in, she might’ve been paralyzed or it could’ve hit her esophagus. We pulled out two bullets, but they never perforated her spine or went through her esophagus. It’s almost as if she had a shield in front of her.” Connor sighed heavily in relief and turned back to look at his lover. Though she was still pale, a little color had returned to her so her skin no longer looked translucent. She wore a neck brace, but that was just so she didn’t move her neck in her sleep if she became restless. Then his trauma surgeon's brain caught something. Last time he saw Sarah she was bagged and being attached to a ventilator. But now… He turned back to Ava, “You extubated her. She’s breathing on her own.” “I took a chance in recovery. She passed the breathing tests with flying colors, was protecting her airway, and her oxygen levels and CO2 stats were good so I took her breathing tube out.” The blonde explained with a shrug.

Hi 😊will you write down the theory your friend has on the potential Upstead pregnancy sl in the finale?
Hi anon! So @girlinlotsoffandoms and I were talking about possible baby Halstead, this Anna storyline, and how it could involve Jay + the potential of him getting hurt. She had this idea that Hailey could find out she is pregnant, but the finale ends with Jay getting hurt before she can tell him. And to me that just sounds like the most brutal hiatus but I am so here for it

Current theory (formed with the help of @buckstaylor, @girlinlotsoffandoms, and Astro sorry idk your tumblr from the BuckTaylor discord server) for Buck and Taylor in the upcoming episodes.
So, it’s been hinted that we’re getting more of Taylor’s backstory and I’m choosing to be optimistic and believe that we’re getting that instead of BuckTaylor breaking up. Plus the theory that Taylor is using Buck for a story is hella bland and would be inconsistent writing, so I’m choosing to believe that the writers are doing something more interesting.
Starting the most recent BuckTaylor scene with Taylor’s line “tell him to call me later, and maybe I’ll answer” I don’t think was an accident, but I don’t think she was talking about her boss/work like a lot of other people seem to think. It’s hard to tell from context but personally it’s a little too brash even for Taylor to be like well tell my boss to call me and I’ll think about answering. I think it’s more likely that the ‘he’ who is going to call her is someone from her personal life.
It’s a somewhat popular theory amongst the BuckTaylor server that Taylor had one or both absent parents. Personally, I thought it would be Taylor’s mother but now my theory is her Dad left her family sometime during her childhood and is now trying to get back in contact with her. It would explain why she was so sharp on the phone, and why she had to think about maybe answering his call, and even why she took an interest in whether the prisoner got to see his son again or not.
Having an absent father would have led to a lot of insecurities and walls being put up, explaining why she’s so intense with her job, as she probably feels like she continually has to prove herself as being worthy, whether it be of receiving attention at work or love in her personal relationships. Insecurities she’s slowly been moving past and walls she’s been pulling down since being with Buck, but things that would probably start coming back if her father was trying to come back into her life.
She would probably start to pull away from Buck as she tries to deal with all these feelings which of course makes Buck start to worry that their relationship is going to end. But Taylor ultimately opens up about what’s happening and Buck, understanding what it feels like to feel abandoned/unwanted by his own family, comforts her and they come out of the episode stronger than ever.
#now come on writers do me a solid and write this exactly#probably too optimistic but ah well cynicism is boring#once again thanks to the bucktaylor server for theorising with me x#911#911 fox#911fox#911 on fox#911onfox#bucktaylor#evaylor#evan buckley#evan buck buckley#buck buckley#taylor kelly

This seems to be our go to on how to write @girlinlotsoffandoms right? 😅
When y’all are writing is there ever a point when you’re like “if someone does not lose their mind over this specific bit right here then what am I even doing?”

One for the celebratory prompt!
“Just take my hand and I promise I’ll never let go …”
Congrats once again on the 200 followers!! 🥳💞
A special one, just for you friend!!!!!
Thank you for the constant love and support you give! And thanks for letting me borrow Ella sometimes 😉 ----------------------------------------------
Ella was scared. She didn’t like to admit it, always wanting to be brave like her mommy and daddy, but she was. It was the day she was finally going to get to try out the full size balance beam that all the big kids used. It was also Parents Day, which meant her mommy and daddy got to be on the gym floor with her. Ella had worked so hard to be ready for the big beam so she could make her parents proud but now that the time had come, she was too nervous.
All she had to do was just walk across but she couldn't make her legs move.
"Ella? You Ok?" Jay asked, standing at the side of the beam.
"Its too high daddy," Ella said quietly. "I'm scared."
"You don't have to be scared, sunshine," Jay said with a comforting smile. “Just take my hand and I promise I’ll never let go."
Jay stuck his hand out and Ella clutched it, squeezing as tight as she could.
"Really?"
Jay nodded. "Not until you want me to."
Ella nodded, her blonde ponytail bouncing. She took a deep breath and took her first step on the beam.

for your 200 Followers Celebration:
A family outing of Stella, Kelly and Maya to the cabin.
I love your stories, especially Maya's. That girl is adorable, hope to see her more. And I'm dying to know more about the next members of the Severide family. I really want to know the name of Maya's little sister.
Thank you and congratulations!!! Your stories make my day happier 🥰😘
Thank you so much!!!! We've got a little ways to go before we expand the Stellaride family but man oh man am I SO excited for yall to meet them! ----------------------------------------------
“The forecast said it was supposed to be sunny,” Stella grumbled from her spot at the window.
She was right. They’d been checking the forecast religiously in the days leading up to their trip. Not once was rain ever mentioned but here they were, stuck inside the cabin as a thunderstorm rolled through with no end in sight.
It was Maya’s first trip to the cabin, something Stella and Kelly had been planning for months, practically since the day she was born. Benny’s old cabin held amazing memories for Stella and Kelly, interrupted honeymoon aside, and they had been waiting for the day they could bring Maya.
Stella had the weekend all planned out. Then the rain came and threatened to ruin it all.
Kelly walked over to Stella and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her back against his chest.
“I know,” Kelly said gently. “But this weekend will still be fun.”
“It’s Maya’s first time at the cabin. It was supposed to be perfect.” Stella argued sadly.
Kelly chuckled and placed a kiss on Stella’s head. “It still can be. Sure, we might not be able to go outside, but we can still make this a memorable weekend.”

“It’s bedtime Maya.”
Maya looked up from where she was lying on the couch, teddy bear tucked under her arm, to stare at Kelly. “I not tired daddy.”
Kelly smirked and raised an eyebrow. The little girl had been struggling to stay awake for the last fifteen minutes as the movie ended. Even now, she fought against her heavy lids. Kelly walked over and sat next to her on the couch. He ran his fingers through her hair and Maya’s eyes got even heavier. “I think you are tired,” he said gently.
“Mommy’s not home yet,” Maya mumbled quietly. The now undeniable exhaustion in her voice added a small whine to her words.
“I know baby. She had to help Uncle Herrmann at Molly’s a little later tonight,” Kelly said gently, his fingers still combing through Maya’s soft curls. “But she’ll be here when you wake up in the morning, okay?”
Maya nodded, her eyes barely open, and raised her arms towards her daddy. Kelly chuckled and picked Maya up, hugging her close as he steered them towards her room.
Maya buried her head in Kelly’s neck. “Can we read a story?”
“Yeah, baby girl, we can read a story.”

✨✨✨ 200 followers, that’s huge, congrats!
And maybe you would use this prompt? we can't risk it for our favourite CF couple Stellaride? 🙏🏻
Thank you friend!!! I love this prompt!!
Enjoy this little teaser of something coming eventually (I've learned to never say coming soon with my writing because soon is always months/years away 😅) to the Maya-verse ----------------------------------------------
Stella sat in her car outside the station, talking to Kelly on FaceTime. She watched as First shift made their way to their cars as Second shift started to trickle in. It was her first shift back after taking several off to be with Kelly as he recovered from his most recent near-death experience.
That had been over a month ago. Kelly was back home with her and Maya, on the mend, and their family was together again.
This hadn’t been the first close call since they became parentsbut it was the first one since learning their family of three was soon to become a family of four.
When Stella was pregnant with Maya, they waited a little while to tell everyone. This time, though, Stella had found out the day Kelly got hurt, making the realities of their job smack Stella in the face. They couldn’t wait this time. Should something happen, they’d need the support of their friends and team.
“I’m telling Boden, and the others, today,” Stella told Kelly over the phone.
“Are you sure?” Kelly asked.
“We can’t risk it,” Stella declared. “With our jobs and the risks we face every day, after what happened to you? They need to know.”

You said Stellaride @family-of-4 you got it! Here's a little snippet I took from a WIP
let's have some fun! send me a prompt/ship/picture/etc to celebrate hitting 200 followers!
----------------------------------------------
“Hey.”
Stella smiled at the slightly distorted voice that came through her phone speaker. She settled onto the couch in the common room and switched the call over to FaceTime. The screen came to life, stark brightness in the dim lighting, and Stella saw the smiling face of her favorite person in the world.
“Hey.”
“Did I wake you up?” Kelly asked, noticing the darkened room behind her. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking how late it would be there.”
“It’s fine babe, it’s not really that late.” Stella promised. “Everyone kind of turned in early.”
“Rough shift?”
Stella shrugged. “Nothing major, just long. The tail end of summer has everyone going crazy. We had back-to-back calls today, but they finally slowed around dinner time.”
“Do you want to go get some sleep?” Kelly asked. His eyes were kind and Stella knew his question was genuine despite also knowing how much he looked forward to their calls. “I’m not sure what the rest of the day looks like over here, but I can try and call you later when you get off shift.”
“I’m fine Kelly,” Stella said with a smile. “I don’t need sleep right now. I need this. You.”
