Cal, gods I have so much to say about them but they could honestly be their own post by themselves /pos. I -genuinely- wouldn't be here today if it wasnt for them, so many times have they unknowingly helped me out of horrible places in my life, and I could never put my love for them into words no matter how many poems i write in their honour. They are one of the best friends ive ever had in my life, they are the most genuine, selfless, precious people ive had the pleasure of knowing.

Maj- oh i miss talking to him so much you dont understand!!! I love love loved sending them silly stories in her askbox, their way of thinking and breaking down stories were the most delicious things! Not only that but the art??? Their ocs always enticed me and i would willing sit down and listen to them talk about them for hours if i could. They are FUCKING HALRIOUS TOO!!! They've -without even trying- have given me so many belly laughs when i needed that the most.

Vaati- a genuine inspiration. I was a HUGE fan of his shifting sands series when I found it on instagram and when i say HE MOVED TO TUMBLR?! I WAS FUCKING ESTATIC!!!! Also very worried that his art got stolen but it was clear it wasnt- ANYWAYS! When I first found him, i was so ready to just give up on art -before my digital art era- because when i stared at my art all i saw was bland strokes of a pencil that could never be compared to what others had made, but when I found his comic that was FULLY TRADTIONAL I was stunned. I showed it to everyone I knew, whether they knew loz/lu or not, i needed them to see the talent and beauty I found. And he was the beginning of me starting to relearn to love traditional art again, and how much more beautiful it was to me compared to any digital piece

ARIA!!! I was in awe of her cute style- and i saw her make art for Sacred realm and i was HOOKED! Genuinely, I was like 'oop- have to be friends with her now' and though we dont talk that much, im constantly impressed with her growth even when she thinks its trash. That girl has SO much potential, and im estatic to see what she does with it. OH AND THE ART SHES MADE FOR FAROLA?! **MWAH!!!** Honestly she made me love Farola again-

Major, an unrated GEM, one of the most encouraging, heartfelt and creative person ive met on this site. She is, and will always be, someone I look to when I need a push or when im unsure about doing something (like this!) cause I know that she will never cease her amazing ability to encourage and inspire those around her.

Finky and Isa- some of the most iconic styles ive seen, its amazing to see them grow and keep their styles while still improving. AND THE AMOUNT OF ART AND IDEAS THEY MAKE??? Im stunned by how quick they are able to make their art and STILL HAVE IT BE AMAZING QUAILTY?! Witch craft I tell you!

Shade and Mossy, two people I sadly dont talk to much anymore, but were apart of one of the most important parts of my life so far. Both were such positive lights that kept pushing even when they got pulled back by others. Idk if its their stubbornness or determination that keeps them going, but whatever they have, I want it!

I started watching MLP when I was like 10 because my baby brothers wanted to watch it and I liked it but after that I hadn’t seen it in years so I thought I’d get back into it. I was especially into the mlp creepypasta stuff (it was like the first official fandom I got into when I was 8 and it lasted until I was like 14 and I got a new hyperfixation which was Assassination Classroom, let me tell you— being in the Fnaf, Minecraft, Undertale, and Eddsworld fandoms in that time frame as well was wild. The fanfics and crossovers were embarrassing, y’all.)

Also, horse girl? I had to be one in middle and high school cause my mom made me take riding lessons and at least one competition lol. While I didn’t like it because I nearly broke my hip doing so, I’m still salty they sold the horse I mainly rode for two years and the new owner was a bitch and wouldn’t even let me walk past his stall because she was so possessive. Genuinely was only there to make friends with the horses, I still miss you, Cinnabar :[

And yessss, I love the blanket I made with Libby cause it’s so soft and warm which is great cause my hands and feet are naturally cold like a corpse.

I also get the burnout, I wanna write so bad and I have so many ideas but I just can’t write. I want to finish my second Chuuya hurt/comfort fic and Dazai hurt/comfort fic cause they’re almost done (my Chuuya one is 4k+ words long and the Dazai one is being a bitch and deleted half of my progress). But it’s okay because I named them appropriately so look out for fics called “I said break it down, not have a break down” and “This homeless man won’t leave so I’m spraying him down with dirty brown water” (I think you can guess which is which). So yeah :]

Also on the tweeted art thing: otoh, the official PriPri twitter rt-ed some body pillow covers for the girls a while back, but otoh, I've seen official-looking fanservice-y fanart in another fandom before, so. I guess it could be either way until some sign comes from the official twitter or website if it's real. I'm gonna be kinda disappointed if that happens though bc they're 17yo and that's blatant sexualization.

i put off answering this for a while bc i wanted to have a good thoughtful response, since this stuff is important in a wider context, but let’s tackle the small stuff first! 

ya i’ve seen So Much fanservice-y fanart before too but this was particularly wild to me because... hm u think about stuff like the pillowcases. there’s always a kind of implied male gaze going on there, somewhere for a guy to dream about inserting himself. or my favourite, “half-undressed against an abstract background, hands touching, but two feet apart because we’re not gay”. all this stuff where the producers can deny that they’re sexual, even as they’re sexualised. 

but this is... they’re sexualised, packaged for (straight male) consumption for sure, but they’re also undeniably sexual with each other, not with an imaginary audience. which is such a bizarre departure from your usual queerbaiting fare. hence my immense shookethness. 

now here’s my take on the gross and creepy part of this where we’re all aware that the anime industry is a shithole when it comes to sexualising underage characters. keep in mind that my opinions aren’t completely well-formed and i’m still figuring shit out, so i’m gonna put this under a cut in case y’all don’t wanna read my waffling.

i mean, yeah, there’s no doubt that the grown ass adults drawing this and marketing this to other grown ass adults are gross as fuck. at the same time, i’d like to think that it’s different for similar-aged queer teenagers to look at this and go “wow that’s cute/hot/really jives with my ship”. i don’t think we come from the same fetishistic, exploitative perspective that straight male otaku culture has. i know that for me, when i saw this stuff as a baby gay, it helped rather than hinder me.

but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still underage sexualisation.

sure, you can say “this is fiction and as long as you separate it from real life and don’t treat real human beings like this, it’s fine”. but then it crosses a point where it becomes normalised to show this kind of material everywhere, and normalise underage sexualisation, to the point where it’d have the same damaging effect.

and would i then be complicit in this normalisation? i think i might be. and is just putting a disclaimer (”yeah i know it’s problematic but let’s repurpose it for queer fandom”) going to prevent that? somehow i don’t think that’s enough. but i don’t know what to do.

i’ve seen lots of cases where fellow tumblr kids blindly follow their idolised bloggers, and where said idolised bloggers seem to just accept that they’re these guiding voices now. i’m very cautious of at all presenting myself as an authoritative tumblr voice that Must Be Listened To; and the reverse, too, i don’t plan on blindly listening to whatever voice shouts loudest at me. that said, i’d appreciate any perspectives y’all offer me. as a newly-turned 19 year old, i’m not a child, but i’m not fully an adult either, which leaves me in an ambiguous state of “how am i supposed to interact with those younger than me?” without trying to pretend im a Mature Grown-Up Who Knows What’s Best For You. heck, i’m still trying to figure out What’s Best For Me.

not too long ago, i would have been the 17-18 year old acknowledging that the anime industry is immensely pervy and nasty, but once we accept that that’s the case and that we need to be able to differentiate that fantasy from reality, i would have gleefully enjoyed that picture. i was aware of my own sexuality; i was aware of the problems with underage sexualisation; and i would have reconciled the two by saying “(1) this is for my personal entertainment and it’s fine because (2) i’m the same age and (3) i won’t be applying similar reasoning/standards to real live 17-year-olds.”

now, (2) is different. which makes (1) much more difficult and much less morally correct, and (3) even more important than ever. 

i don’t know. this is just a big mess of thoughts running through my head. anyway it’s not like any amount of critical analysis on my part is gonna actually have effect in the anime industry and i’m not the group of people who are facing the effects of this social pressure bc i dont live in japan, so maybe it’s all a bit moot!!!
