I grew up in a home where herbal medicine was the ONLY medicine. No big pharma here - we have a tea for that. When I (somehow, miraculously) grew to adulthood, I decided that ibuprofen was pretty great, actually, and did my best to unlearn years of bias never looked back.
The thing that has just now occurred to me is that I can have BOTH. As long as it's not something that's going to interact (like St. John's Wort or something) I can have the modern medicine AND the ancient one. Pepto-bismol AND peppermint. Midol AND ginger. Acetaminophen AND a cold compress. Cough syrup AND... actually no, that concoction (4 parts vinegar to one part honey) is an abomination even if it does work. Never again.
Still, this discovery is mind-blowing. Both.
#TIL#things that should have been obvious#medicine#herbal remedies#ginger is hands down the best thing you can get for a period btw#especially if you can get it in a fizzy beverage#as far as i can tell#midol#does nothing

"I Can't Hear You, Speak Up!"
15! Chuuya x fem! reader
content: you stain your skirt and a certain mafioso comes to help you, swearing, periods/blood, fluff, pre-relationship, mutual pining, teenage romance
Reader is fem! mention of periods
based off a reddit story 😭
Please give some more ideas and characters for fanfiction, I love teen skk btw
12:13
It's been about 8 minutes since you left an important mafia meeting, excusing yourself to Boss to go to the washroom.
Yet now you stare at your bloodstained skirt and underwear, sighing to yourself in defeat. "No pads either.." You mutter, digging your palms into the luxurious marble sink in thought. Theoretically, you could tell Boss that something happened and you taught an underling a lesson while you were out, or you could be frank about your period; which was something really embarrassing considering you'd have to stop the meeting infront of a bunch of grown criminal men for hygiene products.
So you hid behind the ajar white bathroom door, calling out 'hello?'s and 'is someone there?'s everytime a gust of wind made the slightest creek. "11 minutes.." You leaned your head on the steel door, trying your best to cover your skirt.
Then you heard it.
A quiet murmuring coming from the hallway outside the bathroom, you sighed in relief and poked a leg out of the door; the shadows covering half of your face. There he was, Chuuya Nakahara walking around the hallways like there wasn't a highly significant meeting going on; he had a scowl on his face and his fists clenched like something had happened, muttering about 'killing that bastard'.
"Ahem." You cleared your throat, peeking out to the ginger boy, he spun around in mutliple possible directions the noise could have come from. "Huh?!" the short boy shouted, before locking his blue eyes with yours. "The hell? Aren't you supposed to be in the meeting?" He cocks a brow, folding his arms over his chest. Chuuya seemed to be all dressed up for the day, wearing his signature fedora, choker, white dress shirt and black slacks; but a new large raven overcoat that reached his ankles was loosely thrown over his shoulders, even a new silver hat chain.
"I need something from here, that's why." You purse your lips into a pout, crossing your arms behind the door. "Why are you here anyway?" You ask curiously, slowly easing into the topic, the stylish boy only scoffs with irritation. "Got kicked out, all cause of that fuckin' mackerel." Chuuya rolled his tongue across his inner cheek in annoyance, of course you knew who he was talking about; Dazai, his only friend, you think? You did see them attempting to act serious as they kicked each others leg under the table, maybe he deserved it.
"So then where's Dazai?" You question, tapping your shoe against the marble floor. "He got to stay because he was important, or some bullshit!!" Chuuya shouted again, gritting his teeth harshly. "Woah, calm down." You motion before pausing, "Can you just get a girl, please? Like Kouyou or something.. I don't know." you ask politely, a light blush tinting your cheeks; the redhead's eyes only furrow at your request. "I told you already, I got kicked out, Kouyou's inside. What do you need anyway? I'll just get it for you." He feigns a sigh, shoving his hands in his slacks pockets.
You inhale in annoyance, before stepping further into the washroom, "Nevermind, forget it." you dismiss, causing Chuuya to clench his fists even more. "Just tell me, damn it." He scowls in annoyance, before noticing the blush creeping on your cheeks, and the fact that you did not turn around once from facing him. It all clicked together. "Oh, uh-" The boy paused, red tinting his ears and nose. "You want that thing?" Chuuya asks, causing your eyes to light up at seemingly the only boy who knows what hygiene products are. "Yeah, that!"
He then fishes out something from his pocket and hands it to you, you were a little confused as to why he'd keep pads in his pocket, until he placed a silver safety pin in the palm of your hand. "What is this?" You ask with a blank, despairing face; Chuuya only blushes more at your reaction. "Your.. your skirt ripped, right?" He stammers, making you internally facepalm. "No, no.. pads." You whisper the last part awfully quiet, making Chuuya lean his ear closer to your face, his hands still in his pockets.
"What?" He asks, knitting his brows. "Pads, tampons.." You repeat again, motioning with your hands. "What the hell? Speak up!" The boy scowled, leaning even closer to your face, you almost wanted to push him from inching so close to the girl's bathroom; and the close proximity of his breath tickling your lips.
"Pads!"
You shout in his ear with a frown, Chuuya stepped back at the loud noise, now blushing profusely. "Oh shit, my bad- I just thought your skirt-" You cut him off, crossing your arms. "It's fine! Just please get them, damn.." You brush off with a scowl, seeing the boy scurry off to the hallway.
And after a few minutes of agonising silence, you hear loud shouting coming from Mori's office.
"You can't just go thru Rintarou's stuff!!" A high-pitched girl yelled.
Chuuya quickly hushed her, the loud sound of rummaging through drawers audible. "Shh, shh! He's gonna hear us, shit!"
"I don't care if he hears us! Just let me colour!!" Elise then countered, throwing what you assumed was a crayon at him.
The boy soon rushed to the bathroom with multiple types of pads in his hands; night, day, winged, super. "What the hell is winged?! Does it fly to you or somethin'?!" Chuuya yelled, making you laugh. "Did you really fight Elise for this?!" You laughed, taking them all from his hands. "Shut up!"
And as you finished thanking and mocking him, about to spin around and leave to a stall, he tapped your shoulder.
"Here, uhm.." The redhead took off his overcoat and draped it over your shoulders to cover the stain. A pink blush spread on his cheeks, you only did the same. "Thanks.." You grasp onto the coat, walking inside the stall.
And even as he waited for you to come out of the bathroom, walked you back to the meeting room, and parted ways with a meek wave and blush; you walk into the room with a big smile on your face, only seeing that the meeting was already empty and done.
Fuck.
Even so, it wasn't all that bad; even if the incident happened weeks ago, there would always be a certain redhead giving you a casual nod or wave if he saw you wandering the mafia's hallways or available in meetings.
It made you want to make him steal pads from Mori's office and give you his coat all over again.
Double fuck.

Slow & Steady [P2] [Sabo x f!reader] (+18)
Genre : Romance - Smut - Bestfriends to lovers General warnings : Alcohol consumption - Dark themes - Swearing - S m u t - possessiveness - Mention of ex-relationships - jealousy
A/N : This is really different from my usual writing style but I am experimenting. Please tell me your thoughts and don’t hesitate to ask to be added to the tag list :) AO3 : https://archiveofourown.org/works/31877203?view_full_work=true
In the last chapter -- «-Enough playing now, you're going to sleep. -B-but ! This wasn't what I asked for....You're really a coward after all...You virgin... » He carried you to his room, putting you on the bed and sitting next to you. «-I'd love to prove you wrong. However, it would be better if you were in a state where you'd be able to recall how good I am. If you want me to fuck you this badly then maybe ask me when you're sober.
Part I - Part II
Part II -Yeah yeah...Pff..You're no fun Sabo. Things were finally getting interesting ! »
He smiled seeing that you were now calmer. You started to yawn and bury your face in his pillow. He loved to see you getting so comfortable in his room. He really needed a cold shower after your little show. -Goodnight (Y/N). I'll sleep on the couch. You can get comfortable. -Are you crazyy ? You gonna leave me alone like this ? Let's sleep together~ -Come on (Y/N), you're a big girl. You could sleep alone for one night, would you ? Translation : I don't want to spend the whole night with a semi. And you're dangerously flirty, and I have wanted you for years and now I have to abstain.
-Pleaaaase. You said looking at him with puppy eyes. He rolled his eyes placing a hand in his hair. God.damn.it.
You won again. Like every time. * * * You opened your eyes hardly next day, feeling something hard against your thigh. You looked at the ceiling
Oh...I am not in my room...Where the fuck am I ?
you turn around only to discover the embodiment of Adonis to your side. A light beam was lighting up Sabo's face. He looked like an angel as his beauty couldn't be that of a human.
Was he always this handsome ?
You didn't know, in fact, you have never had the occasion to wake up in his bed. Wait, in his bed ? This realization came slowly as your head was still foggy from yesterday's consumption.
You looked down, the thing that was pressing against your leg was indeed :
his thing.
You frowned, blushed, pulled away, put a hand on your lips repressing an internal scream, all of this in around three seconds. You then tried to calm down, telling yourself that it was very normal for a man to experience this kind of morning unconviniences, and that Sabo was a man, after all. Even if you have always seen him as a bestfriend, he was still a man that is capable of physical attraction.
Now that this internal monologue was done with, you felt a bit calmer, but that didn't answer your question. You got out of bed, trying to recall what happened after going in the bar. And it came back. All of it. Without any mercy for your feelings.
You wanted the ground to swallow you whole. Your only wish was to disappear which meant : calling Nami. You headed out of the house, not even having the courage to face your bestfriend.
« Namiiiii -Uh ? What's the matter ? -I fucked up. I fucked up really bad. -Oh yeah ? Tell me about it. -Wait, why do you seem excited ? -O-oh I'm not excited. Come on tell me. What else could you have possibly done ? -I asked Sabo to fuck me. -Wait what ? You could hear Vivi ask Nami about what happened and her answering « She asked Sabo to fuck her ». -Nami ! Don't go on telling everyone about this. I'm on my way. -For starters, Vivi isn't « everyone », she's my girlfriend. And I'm here waiting for you to tell me what happened. -Wait, I'll come at your place. This can't be discussed over the phone. »
You hung up on her. Ten minutes later, you were at her place. Extremely confused. Nami was painting her nails bright red on the bed while Vivi was sitting comfortably on a chair. You let your whole body weight fall on a lounge pug, tourmented. «-So tell me how you and Sabo ended up fucking. She emphasized the last word in a way that made you almost choke on air. -We didn't actually. Nami and Vivi both sighed in a synchronized « Ah » of disappointment. -So hmm...I don't remember clearly. I was really drunk-- well that you're aware of and...And Sabo didn't want to leave me alone so we went to his place. Ace was at Thatch's so we were alone. We hugged and he comforted me. Then I started teasing him, and I don't know what I was thinking, but I kissed him, and then I asked him to fuck me. -Wow that escalated quickly. Said Nami as she continued painting her nails.
-Well, I was heartbroken, I needed something, someone, and he was there, and you know Sabo, he's a good guy ! I don't know what's worse, the fact that I asked him to fuck me or the fact that he said no.
-Oh god I'm so so sorry
- Nami please don't make things worse for me.
-No offense, but you're so dense. Sabo has always been into you. Do you want him, or do you not ? I know that going right into a relationship after a breakup is a bad idea. But honestly it's worth giving it a shot. He's a really good guy. Try dating someone nice for once.
-I don't know, he has something unsettling about him. Like « almost too good to be true » you know ? Added Vivi.
-Ohhh~ I see. Honestly, I always thought that he was a bit prude and hella vanilla. I mean, yes, he's my best friend. But he has never talked about girls to me or about sexual stuff. So I just assumed that. I never thought that he'd be packin' like that. You said as you popped a lollipop in your mouth.
-Ah ? Was it really that impressive ? asked Nami, genuinely curious.
-Yeah. On a scale from 0 to doflamingo he's a solid eight point seventy five. (*)
-Oh gosh. I understand why you're so worked up now.
-That's really...precise. Added Vivi, a bit horrified.
(*) [ The dear reader might need this clarification ; Doflamingo was Law's uncle, he sometimes came to pick him up after uni with his luxurious lamborghini. He wore extremely tight pants that left little to the imagination. And he was most known among your clique for having a nine incher. It was a running joke wether to know if Law got his uncle's genes. Needless to say that this joke wasn't to Law's taste. Now back to our adorable Y/N. ]
-So. I really don't know what to do. I am still heartbroken. -And horny. Added the ginger. -Yeah, that too. I'm afraid of ruining our friendship. -Listen dear, said Nami as she was closing the nail polish bottle, if you're not going for it, someone else would. And trust me, that girl Koala is upping her game. She's going to steal him right in front of your eyes, just like this - and she snapped her fingers. -Oh, and then, you can forget about being « best friends ». Said Vivi adding fuel to the fire. -Yeah, once he's gonna start dating, he won't have too much time for you-- and then, that Koala girl, my god, she seems extremely possessive ! -No way, your voice was detached, trying to act is if you weren't worried, Sabo has never dated any girl before.- -Yes but he seems to get along with that girl. And to be honest, she's kinda cute.
-Nami ! Vivi pinched her forearm playfully, pretending to be jealous.
-That hurt ! And don't be jealous, you know that you're my only one~
-Hmm...I prefer that. Vivi laughed. You started caughing reclaiming for their attention.
-Attention please ! We're discussing my dick-appointment here.
-Jesus you're really annoying, (Y/N), just go for it already.
-How much did he pay you to tell me this huh ?
-What ? He didn't pay me ! You're just always getting your heart broken. I'm just trying to be a good friend.
-Say that you are trying to get rid of her~ Jokes Vivi.
-Vivi, don't expose me like this- Nami plays along while laughing.
-I hate you girls ! You say as you throw a pillow on Nami. The ginger starts complaining that you messed her Nail polish, and the whole scene metamorphosed into a pillow fight.
* * *
You spent the whole day with the girls, chit-chatting about boys and girls and playing stupid games. You felt way more comfortable now, less ashamed. However, you were surprised because you didn't get a message from your bestfriend. You wondered wether he was mad at you, it wasn't in his habits.
You decided to message Ace [click for conversation] [ (Y/N) : Heyy amigo is Sabo ok ? Did he tell u smth abt yesterday ? Ace : Ouch, your hurting my feelings, </3 Only talking to me to ask about my brother~ Yea hes okay why tho ? (Y/N) : Ooo kay. He's home ? Ace : He is. Why don't u directly text him ? (Y/N) : Don't tell him I asked. Btw I didn't forget about those 10 bucks you « borrowed » from me. Give it back.] He didn't answer. You sighed and decided to go see Sabo to settle things down. It was the first time that you were embarrassed to see your best friend. You dressed up in a black skirt and t shirt. You didn't usually pay attention to your looks when you went to hang out at Sabo's, but you were really stressed out and what the girls have said about Koala made you scared of losing him. After all, you had some abandonment issues. You had to settle this down once and forever. You arrived at the guy's place, it was an apartment not so far from your own student flat. You knocked on the door and Ace opened : -Ohhh, (Y/N), he whistles, lookin' like a girl today huh ? -What are you implying you dumbass ? Where's Sabo ? -He's in his room with Koala.- -Wait what ? Koala ? What is she doing here ? Ace raised an eyebrow then said amused ; -I don't know, go ask him yourself. -You're useless as usual. -Always so sweet. You on your period or something ? -I didn't forget about my twenty bucks by the way. -I said I'm goin' to pay you back alright ? Now go talk to Sabo. You and Ace were always teasing each other in a brotherly way, but in reality, he really cared for you, it was just your usual way of communication. But it was true that knowing that Koala was in Sabo's room put you in a bad mood. You knocked on the door with a knot in your stomach. Did they start dating ? Was Sabo interested in her ? These ideas were torturing you. But why did you care anyways ? It was none of your business. He could date whoever he wants. You opened the door but there was only Sabo relaxing on his bed, still fully clothed. « - Sabo ?-Oh, (Y/N), what brings you here ? -Why ? Do I need a reason to see my best friend ? He sits on bed looking at you. He doesn't fail to notice your cute outfit, it was different from your usual sweatpants and hoodies, the way it complemented your figure was almost too much for him. Just that sight was driving him insane, but his face didn't betray his emotions, like always, he acted friendly, not an ounce of lust in his dark ebony eyes. You took place next to him. He smelled good, you thought. The same fresh minty smell as last time. Did he always smell this good ? -(Y/N) ?Huh ? Is everything okay ? His voice seemed concerned. He cared for you. And you had those stupid immature and posessive thoughts. Get a grip of yourself, (Y/N), you thought. -Oh yea-- wasn't Koala here ? Ace told me you were with her.
You tried so hard to act like you didn't care, but he knew you like the back of his hand. But still, he played along. -Hmm..Yes. She just left. I was going out as well. He says with a sweet smile, looking at his watch. You couldn't help but make a disappointed face. -But Sabo I wanted to - I'm really sorry (Y/N), let's talk later. He ruffles your hair and you close your eyes as he does so. You felt stressed out. What happened exactly ? You felt intimidated in his presence for the first time. You wanted him to stay and talk this out. It was a bit awkward for you now. You never thought too much. As he was going out of the room you held the fabric of his coat tight in your hand ; -Sabo- -Hum ? Need me to drop you somewhere ? -N-no. You let his sleeve go, realizing what you have just done, I'll stay a bit then go back home. Don't worry about me. -Alright then. See you later ? -Yeah. See ya. ]
You looked at Sabo go away and you followed him shortly after. Meanwhile Ace was sitting on the couch and watching some movies. You went back home and was quite tormented. It wasn't the right time to worry as you had your assignments and studies to deal with. On one hand, you didn't even have the time to think of your ex boyfriend and his cheating but on the other, you felt like you were let down by Sabo. But why ? He didn't do anything. He just found himself a new friend and a potential new girlfriend.
He didn't even talk about her, but why where you so upset by him meeting her ? After all, he had the right to date just like you always did.
A few days have passed and you didn't get the chance to talk to Sabo. Your exams were getting closer and closer and you didn't feel ready.
Usually, Sabo would help you with your assignments but you were too scared to ask. You realized how much you relied on him and how he has been always there for you.
Who were you exactly to him ?
Maybe you took him for granted.
As you were on your bed looking at the ceiling and trying to collect every drop of motivation in your system to study, you heard your phone ring. It was Sabo's ringtone ! ----- Tag list : @vemuabhi @chloe-abbacchio @mwls-garden @soanywaysistartedsimping If you wanna get tagged just ask for it :)

What about You can taste what your soulmate eats AU with Jennifer check with a fem!reader? I love your blog btw! X
[ soulmate prompts. ] oh this would be a bad time-
You lived much of your life peacefully and without withstanding or battling obvious signs of your soulmate and their tastes and cravings.
Whoever they were they had unobtrusive tastes. You’d heard and even witnessed a few horror stories yourself. Soulmates where one is a vegan and the other isn’t. Someone likes spicy food and the other can’t handle black pepper you were glad all your shared experiences thus far had been mild.
Just little moments scattered throughout your day and your life that reminded you that somewhere out in the world you had a soulmate. Someone meant for you.
So at times when you’d be sitting alone and then taste a salad and then thirty minutes after that taste some fries and a cherry coke (like they were trying to be good and then gave up very quickly); or it being late at night and then tasting well-buttered popcorn; or the sweet taste of different flavored lollipops throughout the day? You loved those little moments.
This all changed one day all too suddenly. One night minding your own business and the next? Violently throwing up.
That taste the phantom taste and texture in your mouth was horrible. So repulsive you threw up continually the entire time your soulmate consumed it with gusto because it just didn’t stop coming. By the end of the ordeal you were whining and gasping pitifully.
You’ve had busted lips before you know what blood tasted like but this was horrible. Blood and ….and meat like you’d never tasted it before but completely raw. After brushing your teeth aggressively about a hundred times you went to bed that night miserable. The taste didn’t falter for an instant until your soulmate apparently brushed their own teeth for bed late into the night. The taste of mint sat heavy on your tongue after the metallic bite of blood.
You got out of bed the next morning wary. Your soulmate had a cup of orange juice but nothing else. You nervously tried to enjoy some eggs and bacon but found yourself not in the mood for meat at the moment, even well cooked.
For a few weeks everything was fine although you noticed a distinct lack of taste and sensation being broadcasted from your soulmate since that…incident.
On one hand you were profoundly relived and on the other you were incredibly worried. The only thing reassuring you that they were still alive was the occasional flicker of sweetness from the lollipops they apparently still enjoyed while they gave up on food totally. You were worried to say the least.
Half tempted to eat more just to remind them ‘hey! you need food, asshole! and also i care about you even though i’ve never met you’ but you resisted the urge and went about your normal way.
They’d had moments before where they wouldn’t eat much and then they’d suddenly go back to their regular habits. You assumed this was one of those times. One day you would like to express all the concern they’d made you feel during those times to their face and also give them a hug after you were done chewing them out.
You regretted all the worry you felt when you’re at school and suddenly you taste it again. You throw up in the middle of class. You get to go home early but it’s not that great of a consolation prize.
This happens quite a few more times and it effectively makes you lose your appetite. Days without them eating anything substantial and then….. then blood and raw meat and-
And you’re starting to feel weird. Weird about the whole damn thing. What are they eating? What’s changed about them? You just know instinctively that something has gone totally and horribly wrong.
It’s not a close friend or family member that notices there’s something wrong with you. It’s actually just a girl you eat lunch with every day, Needy Lesnicki. A vague friendly face you wave to in a crowd but have never met with outside of school even though you’ve always liked her and she’s always liked you that’s highschool for you.
“Are you okay?” she asks putting a hand over yours as you stare down at your lunch but don’t move to eat it. You’re tearing up before you know what’s going on and quicker than that you’re crying into her shoulder and jabbering on about the unsettling change of palate your soulmate is putting you both through.
At some point in the conversation she goes tense where she was holding you so gently and comfortingly. She doesn’t move until she’s properly soothed you but when you do finally pull away from one another she’s looking unusually pale. She rushes off with some vague excuse and you assume you freaked her out.
The next day your skin feels like it’s on fire. You’re feeling watched…hunted, even.
Needy runs up to you with ginger candies explaining they’re good for queasiness even though she looks fidgety the whole time she offers them. You’re grateful for any bit of relief though- constantly trying to chase away phantom taste and knowing that if your soulmate is consistent you have another bit of suffering coming your way any day now.
You pop a few candies into your mouth at once, the strong taste a minute relief from your unpleasant and all too recent memories. You hear a gasp from behind you and see Needy staring over your shoulder.
Behind you is the queen of the school and Needy’s best friend, Jennifer Check, and she looks like she’s seen a ghost. A second later she shoulder checks you and snatches up a protesting Needy, dragging her down the hall and away from you.
So that was weird.
Weirder? A week comes and goes and the rancid taste of blood hasn’t come yet. No tastes at all, actually. Which is great! Except now you’re super worried again and rush to Needy’s house in a panic late at night because she’s the only one you’ve told about the whole situation.
When you get there her Mom let’s you upstairs and you find Needy on her bed petting the hair of a Jennifer that looks even more miserable than you feel. You don’t know her like you know Needy but you sit right beside Needy on the bed and temporarily forget how worried you are about your soulmate, replaced with worry for the queen bee of the school.
When you ask what’s wrong you get a biting reply of “must be my period” which is directly at odds with how she reaches for your hand gently (yet impatiently) and places it on her exposed midriff. Her skin feels clammy and cold. You mimic Needy and rub her in soothing circles like she so obviously (and strangely) wants you to.
You forgot what you came to tell Needy or what you were so worried about.
You remember when you wake up the next morning squished against Jennifer on Needy’s full size bed. You register this and then register Needy and Jennifer having an argument like you’ve never seen before.
“She’s miserable, Jen!” and “Oh she’s miserable? Bite me, Lesnicki. I’m fucking miserable. Fucking starving to death just because they’ve got a light stomach.” followed by Needy full on screaming.
It’s at this point you interrupt by sitting up. Jennifer’s arms fall from around you like she hadn’t wanted to get caught holding you in the first place. Needy standing in front of her bed, puffed up with anger like you couldn’t imagine she was capable of but also looking sorry they woke you with their little…..spat.
“Sleeping beauty has finally awoken.” Jennifer gets up from the bed, shoving past Needy and throwing you one glance over the shoulder you can’t pick apart before she slams the bedroom door on her way out. She leaves silence in her wake. She looked even worse than she did last night.
“Are you guys okay?” is what you want to ask before Needy interrupts you, “I have to tell you something that’s super shitty since it seems Jennifer won’t.”
So she tells you.
And if you thought you were horrified at just the taste of what your soulmate has been eating you’re fucking shell shocked by the knowledge of what it’s actually been all along. Ignorance is bliss. You’ve been hoping they were on some weird diet kick. Not demonic, man eating succubus shit.
Jennifer falls off the face of the earth and not even Needy can find her for close to three days. Knowing what she is you can’t be too worried about her…she’s the most dangerous thing lurking around the streets..and yet you are worried about her. Demon or not she’s still your soulmate.
It’s not a relief when she gives into her instinct and kills again but knowing she’s okay- knowing she has to do this to survive?- it makes the blood less bitter.
She appears outside you bedroom window an hour after the taste has faded. She’s covered from head to toe in gore and looks… absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking and predatory as she knocks on the window with such a confidence you have to laugh.
You are understandably hesitant to open the window to the girl covered in blood who you know is capable of killing you very violently. She pulls back her hand and you jump from your bed because you realize she fully intends to break the window if you don’t just let her in the easy way.
“Hey there soulmate. Got a toothbrush I can borrow?” She smirks, teeth sparkling white beneath all the blood and looking deceptively human.
She uses your bathroom and doesn’t come out until she’s completely clean while also complaining about the scented soaps that you had available for her use. You’re going to have to acknowledge every elephant in the room.
“You weren’t always like this."
"Yeah no shit.” Jennifer collapses onto your bed, eyes closed, as if she doesn’t have a care in the world but she’s acutely aware of you, whether you know that or not.
“What happened?"
"Does it matter? I am what I am.” She says it like it’s a challenge. Like she wants something from you but hell if you know what. “You gonna stand all the way over there all night? I’m not leaving so you might as well get comfortable."
You take the hint and come to sit beside her on the bed. You want to touch her again but you’re pretty sure the other night was a fluke of how bad she was feeling. This time she seems to be radiating heat like a small camp fire. You wonder how it would feel to hold her at night when it’s cold outside. Who needs a romantic fireplace when she’s probably got the fires of hell burning inside her or something. You groan and collapse right next to her.
"I’m sorry.” She says after a long time. Then the room drifts back into silence. She knows you heard her and even if you didn’t she’s not one to apologize at all - let alone twice.
“For what?” You ask even though you’re pretty sure you already know why.
“For …. I’m sorry you get the shittiest part of this deal.”
“Soulmate deal or demon deal?"
"I tried to …. not eat. But it was literally like starving myself to death. Figured an alive soulmate is worth more than a dead one.” She says the last part quietly as if she’s trying to convince herself the statement is true. You always knew that objectively Jennifer was a person despite being popular and pretty and perfect. All human beings have insecurities and every other normal thing that makes people, people. It’s another thing to see her insecure. Or as close to it as she’ll let herself get.
Boldly you reach across the space and take her hand, “An alive soulmate is worth more than a dead one. I wouldn’t want you to starve for me even though this is seriously fucked."
"Good. I wasn’t planning on trying again.” She turns on her side so she’s facing you and you mimic her instantaneously, without a second thought. You’re still holding hands. Despite her harsh words her eyes are soft and tell a different story.
“We’ll figure something out.” Now you sound like the one trying to convince yourself.
A pause and then you’re flipped onto your back, Jennifer hovering over you, still damp hair tickling across your collarbone as she leans in close, “Yeah. We will.” and then her lips are on yours in the most heart-stopping kiss you’ve ever had. It’s also distracting.
You don’t notice the sharp drag of her nails against your back in the middle of it. The cuts heal almost instantly. She smiles into the kiss and tells herself things will be better this way.

pls DO NOT REBLOG this or i’ll block you i’m not kidding!!!
I had this massive cold and I am still half dead but I went to work anyway. My boss was so lovely aaaah I like her so much!!!!
Ok, so my co-worker is a real bitch. She is also doing an internship and she has a tiny bit more experience than I do, so she thinks she’s the best journalist ever. She always makes me look lazy and not motivated in front of my boss and she says I am lazy and she hates it when ppl blow their nose and yeah last week on Thursday, I told her I won’t come on Friday because I was so sick and she just said “Take a painkiller.” Then she texted me and said that our boss wants me to send her all the stuff for my Valentine’s Day article. I sent her everything and explained it to her and she texted me again and said “I don’t understand what you did. Call me.” I called her and explained it to her and I said “well, i don’t want you to do all of my work, I can do some stuff at home in my bed. you have your own projects” and she said “Well, if you wanna work, you just have to come to the office!” and my boss was sitting next to her and I was so angry and yeah...
On Friday afternoon, my boss sent us an article about Korea and said we’d write an article about it next week. (about trends, food, fashion, beauty). I was excited af and called my BFF who is a huge fan of Korean stuff and I made a big research paper with lots of link and info and today, we had a meeting with my boss, a fashion journalist and my co-worker (and me) and I tried my best to participate in the discussion but my co-worker barely let me and made me look uninterested and bored again. And I did such a good and huge research on Korean beauty stuff and my fucking co-worker just read the article my boss sent us and said one smart sentence and then she got the Korean beauty project. And now I have to do the food stuff, I mean, yeah, just give the food stuff to the fattest and ugliest of the group, it’s ok -_- i am used to it.
I was so sad I almost cried. Why are people often mean to me? What did I do? It’s not fair! I’m scared of losing my job because everyone must think I am not interested. But yeah, if I lose my job... who cares (well, I do but that’s life, huh).
Ok now I gotta do Korean cuisine stuff. at least i get to look at food pics all day long. and i’ll interview a Korean chef on Wednesday. I’m excited!
Tomorrow, we’ll work with the dumb online writing programme and I don’t know it and ugh, NIGHTMARE FUCKING NIGHTMARE¨
btw, I was a way too nice person and sent my beauty notes to the dumb ass co-worker because I didn’t want them to have no use. And she sent mer her food notes. Well, she could have done the food stuff, she was better prepared about it.
I had 2 interviews today and my co-worker said like 244 times “i can do one of them if you want to!” hell nah, it’s my project, you already did a part of it, let me finish MY project!!!
It’s gonna be such a stressful week and I’ll get my period and we have lots of work and yeah.. I am already not motivated. And I am craving iced tea so badly.
My co-worker published her first article today and she had to continue writing another one and I almost finished my stuff and she said “do you have nothing to do?” and I was like “uh, I have to write down the interview stuff” and she was like “when you have finished, you can help me with my article” and I just said no. HELLO, I AM NOT HERE TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR FUCKING ARTICLE THAT I HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT? FUCK OFF! She asked me for a similar favor last week and I was dumb enough to do it. Well, I left after 8 hours at work. I mean, my stuff was done, I am still not 100% well and yeah... I GIVE NO FUCKS I AM NOT HERE TO DO EXTRA HOURS IT’S A FUCKING INTERNSHIP¨ give me more money if you want me to do that
My dad is in Africa and he won’t tell me in which country lol i have to find out. he sends me pics every day and i get one chance per pic but i have no clue
my mom said my report card arrived! and the 16 things I bought on a second hand store.
I also ordered lots of Korean face masks.
I have to cook for tomorrow but ugh... naaaah.
Lemon-Ginger Hot Drink is my new fave drink but ugh, it’s so expensive at this vegan store haha
my phone is still a son of a bitch
I am craving donuts and I am gluten intolerant help haha
I should rest more but I don’t want to.
What am I even writing down anymore who is gonna read this word vomit stuff

Special edition! #1 - Kisses. (1/?)
Hi everyone! :3 Let me present you a bunch of ficlets related to my new AU, Aqours as parents! [others are coming soon ...]
(I forgot to mention that in this AU just like almost all my other AUs and fics, two girls can have a baby together, just like a boy and girl can have one. Because .. It's magic! And it's pure love! I hope it doesn't bother anyone btw...)
Neck kiss. [→ NSFW] Thursday, January 1st 2026
Mari took up the challenge for New Year's Day, again, promising her old friends that the party was going to be wild and shiny. And, for the tenth time Aqours decided to celebrate New Year together, as a group and as best friends, Mari did succeed : the evening was wild and shiny. The music was great and rousing ; the buffet was incredible, some dishes were even new for most of them and exotic ; and Aqours was still as lively as ever, which resulted in so many fits of laughter, in dance challenges and in never-ending conversations. As usual, they spent an amazing evening, and each committed couple came back home around 4AM.
But the night is still young, and dawn is not ready to rear its head.
"Y-You-chan ..." Riko murmurs, her hands lost in her wife's already disheveled hair.
You lightly hums in return, her mouth clamped around Riko's hardened nipple, as she lets her tongue roam all over it, causing the musician to suck in a sharp breath. Electric waves flow through Riko's entire body, making her shiver. It is all because of this expert tongue, but also because of this knee placed between her legs, which is tirelessly rubbing this specific spot ... And it is driving her crazy.
"You-chan," Riko huskily calls -and she smiles when You finally raises her head, with that small angelic grin of hers.
"What is it? Did I do something wrong?"
"No." The red haired woman shakes her head, her left hand now placed on You's cheek -and another smile paints her lips when she instantly spots her wedding ring. "I ... I just want you to kiss me."
A soft chuckle escapes You's lips at this, but she doesn't have to hear it twice. As she lowers her head and brushes her lips against Riko's, she whispers, "Needy tonight, aren't you?"
"Hush," Riko quickly retorts, her back arching ever so slightly as You presses her knee even more between her legs.
Riko muffles a gasp as she traps You's lips with her own, finally obtaining the kiss she was craving. Their smiles instantly grow wider, and their tongues soon brush each other, performing a sensual dance. The fiery kiss lasts for a few long seconds and, as You reluctantly breaks it and starts sitting up straight, Riko lets out a whine, her hands quickly grabbing her wife's shoulders.
"No ... Stay."
"I'm not going anywhere, Riko-chan you silly," You gently laughs, planting a quick peck on her lips. "I just want to take off–" her hands hurriedly grab her panties, and she tosses them aside "–that."
That. The last article of clothing which was just waiting for that ; being carelessly thrown onto the floor.
"You-chan ..." Riko shakily breathes. She instinctively tilts her head on the side the moment You attacks her neck, her hot breaths tickling her at first.
"Riko-chan–" You kisses her pulsating point "–we're going to have this baby–" she plants a few other kisses after gently nipping at some spots, as if she was healing them "– I promise."
In the meantime, one of You's hands has found its way between Riko's legs, causing the pianist's muscles to tense up and her back to arch. She whispers her lover's name, one hand clawing at the back of You's head, as she feels the beginning of a smile against the sensitive skin in her neck. It is when You slips two fingers inside her that her mind goes blank, and Riko instantly gives in to the carnal pleasure.
Happy kiss. Wednesday, July 8th 2026
"Oh my," Shima said, the palm of her hand resting on her cheek, pensive, "It does sound like implantation bleeding."
"Implantation ... Bleeding?" Chika repeated, puzzled.
"Yes. It's part of the early signs of pregnancy, but it's less common than nauseas or tiredness."
"Ohoh," Mito piped in, a teasing smirk paiting her lips. "It seems like Baka Chika did a lot of unprotected hanky-pankies with Kanan~"
"S-stop that!" Chika furiously blushed, pushing one of her big sisters' face away. "I'm sure it's because I'm going to have my period!"
"But you did say that it stopped the day after, and that it was a light bleeding," Shima remarked, her finger tapping her chin. "How many days have passed since you lightly bled?"
"A week ..."
"Don't you think you should have had your period now, after one week?"
Chika never replied to her sister, as she was already running for the nearest supermarket, totally freaked out.
"This is nonsense ..." Chika mutters as she puts her shorts back on, not even thinking of pulling up the zipper.
The young woman grabs the rim of the washstand, shoots a glance at her reflection in the mirror, and deeply sighs. She waits a little bit, swinging on her feet, before looking at the watch. They said to wait a few minutes before checking the result ...
"It's been more than two minutes, I can check, can't I?" She muses, before extending a shaky hand toward the item she'd turned upside down a few minutes ago.
Not even a second after, Kanan jumps with surprise as her ginger haired lover darts into the living room, a deep scowl on her face. Chika looks dreadfully mad, and it is certainly the first time that Kanan cowers in front of her.
"Um, sweetheart, you–"
"IT'S WRONG!" Chika suddenly screams, making Kanan flinch. "GET ME ANOTHER ONE!"
"What–"
Kanan can't say anything else, freezing the moment Chika throws a pinkish stick right in her face.
"GET ME ANOTHER ONE KANAN-CHAN!" she demands once again, stomping her foot onto the floor.
Kanan rubs her forehead, lightly groaning, and takes a look at the stick. She raises an eyebrow before her amethyst eyes land on the girl in front of her. "Chika, this pregnancy test ... It's positive, isn't it?"
"GO BUY ME OTHER ONES!"
"Ok ok," Kanan quickly says as she hurriedly reaches the front door, grabbing her dark blue purse at the same time. "I'm going!"
Once her blue haired lover has left, Chika returns to the bathroom, her heart thundering. She turns the water on, deeply inhales, and splashes her face with cold water.
"It can't be ..."
She soon gets lost in her thoughts, still shaken up by the recent news, her mind filled with what could happen if she really is pregnant ; yes, what could happen. What it implies, too. The impact it's going to have on her finances, on her life in general ... But also on her life with Kanan.
If she really is pregnant, it means that there will be a little human growing up in their own cosy nest, a bundle of joy relying on Kanan and her all the time. It means cries in the middle of the night the first few months and toys and diapers everywhere. It means spitting up and drool on her clothes all the time, and boo boos, and spikes of fever when it's time for teething. It means that they have to entirely secure the house. It means fright each time he or she will approach the oven or the gas stove ; when he or she will run everywhere and brush past pots, curtains, furniture ; when he or she will try to go up or down the stairs ...
But if she really is pregnant, it also means other things. It means ... It means that Kanan and her will be here for all their little bundle of joy's first times. His or her first smile. His or her first peal of laughter. His or her first words. His or her first steps. It also means that they will be proud to introduce their newborn to the world ; that they will be proud each time someone will say "Oh, look at this adorable sweetheart!" or "This baby is so cute!" ; that they will be proud of the apple of their eye, in general. It means hugs and cuddles, whether it be in the morning or before going to bed, or once Kanan or Chika herself has picked him or her up from the daycare center. It means sweet and warm and reassuring kisses, to say hello or goodbye or goodnight, or after baby has been scared by something or got hurt. It means encouragements each time he or she is about to do something great for the first time in his or her entire life, but also laughters after some tickle attacks or funny things babies can do without even wanting it ... And it means bedtime stories, and funny games, and new discoveries, and–
"Chika?" Kanan's voice suddenly snaps the ginger out of her reverie, and the latter quickly opens the door, finding herself face to face with the blue haired girl and two rectangular boxes. "I took these, I hope it's ok–"
"It is!" Chika hurriedly grabs them, before slamming the door in Kanan's face, who only blinks twice.
"Alright ..."
And Kanan can do nothing except wait for Chika to use the pregnancy tests again. She doesn't even think of cooking or watching TV to pass the time, and just impatiently taps her foot on the floor, her arms crossed above her chest. After less than ten agonizing minutes, Kanan's head perks up as she hears a few shaky and shuddering breaths coming from behind the door. She instantly knocks on it, calling her name, worried.
"K-Kanan-chan ..." Chika finally opens the door, and Kanan sucks in a surprised breath when she notices that her crimson eyes are glistening with tears.
"Chika– oof!"
And, as Chika tackles her lover into a bear-crushing hug, she ecstatically yells, "I'm pregnant!"
She starts laughing and grabs Kanan's hands, tightly, making the two of them spin in the corridor. "I'm pregnant Kanan-chan, I'm pregnant~" she singsongs, before crashing her lips onto Kanan's, happily.
Kanan wraps her arms around the future mother's waist, bringing her closer, pressing their lips together even more. Chika is still giggling against her mouth, almost breathlessly, and Kanan can swear that she has never seen the bubbly girl as happy as that.
"Chika ..." She tenderly smiles, her thumb stroking the ginger's cheek.
"We're going to have a baby, Kanan-chan!"
As an answer, Kanan only tightens her grip around Chika and showers her face and neck with soft, messy and quick kisses. The latter bursts into laughter, but still hugs Kanan back, not even trying to get away from this vicious embrace.
"Kanan-chan, stop that~"
And she does, giving Chika's lips one last, loving kiss.
"You scared me for a moment, though," she says when their lips slightly part. Chika's ruby eyes slowly flutter open at this, curiosity veiling them. "I thought you didn't want to be pregnant."
Chika sheepishly chuckles, scratching the back of her neck. "You know that I'm sometimes bad at dealing with sudden and big news like that ... I wasn't expecting it and I freaked out for a moment, it seems so crazy after all Kanan-chan! I have a baby inside me, no wait– I have our baby inside me, it's just–"
"I love you," Kanan interrupts her, brushing her bangs aside and planting a new kiss on Chika's soft skin.
"We should tell the others!" Chika excitedly squeals. "We have to call You-chan and Riko-chan, and Mari-chan, and–"
"Wait, Chika." Kanan is quick to detain her dynamic girlfriend by the hand, drawing her closer again. "We should wait a little bit, for Dia and Mari at least."
"What, why? They're your best friends, they're going to be our baby's aunties, they have to know!"
"Chika." Kanan rests her hands on her shoulders, as if to hold her in place. "I know that, and I really want Dia and Mari to know about all this but ... They've been trying for years now."
"Oh ... Right ..." Chika's smile wavers and drops as she remembers this small detail.
"Let's just wait a little bit before announcing it," Kanan pulls Chika into a hug, one hand instinctively slipping under the ginger haired girl's tank top and resting on her lower abdomen. "We'll go see the doctor this weekend to see for how long you've been pregnant first, mh?"
Chika eagerly nods her head, arms wrapped around her amethyst eyed lover.
"We're going to be two incredible Mamas, Kanan-chan!~"
Belly kiss. Sunday, February 21st 2027
"Riko-chan, I found it!"
Riko looks up from the book she was reading the moment You's cheerful voice fills the living room. She slowly closes it and wedges it between the two big cushions she's resting against, before smiling when her ashen haired wife plops down next to her, with another book. It is a pinkish one this time, with the big title writing in a girly manner : 'A sweet name for the sweetest baby girl'. As Riko briefly reads that, she lets one hand draw circles on her rounded belly.
"Where was it?" She curiously asks, her head soon finding refuge on You's shoulder as the latter sluches into the cushions.
"At the back of my nightstand. I forgot I put it here last time," You sheepishly laughs, before resting her head against Riko's, opening the book right on the contents page. "So ... They sorted the names per category, uh ..." She glances at her wife's beautiful tummy, extending her hand and tickling its side. "Wakey wakey, Tootsie~ Mommy and Mama want you to hear your future name–"
"If we find it," Riko butts in, her fingertips turning around her belly button.
"We'll find it, Riko-chan!" You widely beams at her wife, before exclaiming, "Oh, she's waking up!"
"I know." A tender smile graces Riko's features as she feels their little girl slowly moving inside her.
Soon, a small lump forms under Riko's fingers, before it moves toward the spot that You is currently tickling.
"Good afternoon, sleepyhead," You greets their unborn baby girl, leaning over and rubbing her nose on the bump. "Mommy and I are about to give you the best name ever, so you better hear that! The best name for the best little girl ever~"
She places another kiss on Riko's beautifully swollen belly, right before the latter's fond amber eyes. It takes them almost ten minutes to stop babbling and cooing to their sweetheart, finally paying attention to the book again. They both skim the first pages, returning to their previous position with Riko's head resting on her wife's shoulder.
"Mmh," You slowly hums as she places one foot on the coffee table, cracking her ankle, "Oh, here. What about Haruka, Riko-chan?"
The answer is almost immediate :
"Too common."
You glances at her lover, surprised, but keeps reading the page nonetheless. "Alright ... What about Sakura, then? That's a sweet name."
Riko shuffles even closer, the side of her tummy gently colliding with You's hip. "It's sweet, yes, but it's just like Haruka, too common. We see and hear it everywhere, You-chan ... I don't want my daughter to have the same name as four of her future classmates."
"You have a point, Riko-chan."
The names come one after another, and the swimmer ends up sighing each time.
"What about Asa?"
"What the heck, isn't it an old name?"
"I guess that's a no. What about Shiko?"
"I don't like it."
"Mh ... And Kanta?"
"I've never heard of this name."
"... And?"
"No."
"... ... Ok ... And, oh, look! It's cute! What about this one?"
"Ucchi? No."
"Mou, Riko-chan, you're picky!"
"You-chan, we're about to choose the name of our baby. It's really important." Riko's amber eyes are deadly serious as she says that. "She's going to have it from beginning to end. We're going to call her like that all the time, during her entire life, just like her friends and her lover. And her teachers, too. Her friends are going to give her nicknames related to her name, and all. It's ... It's vital. We have to give her the best name ever."
"I know th–"
"So no," Riko goes on, "I don't want her to be called Sakura or Ai or Mei or Yui, because those are names which are too common. I don't want an old name like Kogō for our daughter either."
"I got it, I got it. You want the perfect name. And I want that too!" You smiles and nuzzles her lover's crimson hair, before placing a soft kiss on the same spot. "Then, what if you look at the book and pick the ones you like?"
Riko only hums, gently taking the book from her lover's hands and using the curve of her belly as a support. She turns the page, silently reading the names and then their description, origin and meaning -if they interest her. You's smile never leaves her face as she stares fondly at the pregnant woman next to her, and it even grows wider each time she notices the cute crease between Riko's eyebrows each time she unconsciously frowns. When she reads, Riko's face always ends up being very expressive : either she presses her lips hard or bites them, or she raises an eyebrow in surprise or frowns and shakes her head when she's not fine with whatever is happening in the book, or she wrinkles her nose or, on the contrary, a small but adorable smile paints her lips, ...
It's like Riko is reading her the entire story, without saying anything.
And it never fails to make You lovingly grin. She got to know all this after so many calm nights spent together, in their comfy bed. Riko has always loved reading, and she often does so before going to bed, when the two of them don't feel too sleepy, or when they're not tangled in the sheets in one of the most passionate embraces ever.
"... -chan? You-chan?"
You blinks several times as she hears her name, her sapphire eyes landing on Riko's curious amber ones.
"Ah, sorry sorry, I was lost in my thoughts!"
"I saw that." A gentle smile finds its way on Riko's lips, before she glances at the book still resting on her belly. "I was saying, what about Risa? I like this name."
You seems to ponder this for a few seconds, but shakes her head, which makes Riko pout. "No ... It's one of my cousins' name."
"Oh, right. Then, um ... Shiki?" Riko looks at You, before they both shake their head at the same time. "It sounds too childish."
"Yeah. Another one?"
The dark crimson haired musician hums lightly again, swiftly turning a page.
"Oh! Suzuko, I like it!"
You raises an eyebrow. "Not me."
Riko slides a frustrated hand through her long strands, heaving a sigh, "It's going to be too complicated, we're not on the same wavelength."
"Hey, don't say that! We'll be when we find the perfect name!"
"Why did Chika-chan and Kanan-san choose Anju first, it's such a cute name," Riko growls as she leans her head back on the big cushion behind her. "We'll ask them for advice if we're too desperate ..."
You takes advantage of this new position and shuffles closer, tucking her head into the angle of her wife's neck. She chuckles and nods, before lazily pointing at the last name on this page.
"Rio ..." She half-reads, half-yawns, before placing a hand in front of her mouth. "Wait."
She shifts her position again, finally sitting up, and the two lovebirds share a glance, before uttering the same syllable at the same time :
"No."
You laughs as she adds, "It sounds too much like Riko!"
A chuckle leaves Riko's mouth as she closes the book, throwing it onto the coffee table. She then stretches and whines a little, hands placed on her belly, "Oh my baby girl, we're not ready to find you a name!"
"Daijobu." You nuzzles Riko's cheek before leaning toward the round tummy, her lips already on the tight skin. "Have a good nap, dear princess. Mama is going to make Mommy relax a little, so she won't be too worried about all this name thing!"
Overjoyed kiss. Thursday, February 25th 2027
After stirring the breaded chicken, the dashi, the mirin, the onions and even the soy sauce in the wok, Mari brings the wooden spoon to her lips and tastes the still-stewing dish. She hums, unconsciously moving her head and tapping her foot on the white tiles, as her small purple speaker blasts the first notes of one of her favorite metal songs in the kitchen.
"Now, the eggs," she mutters to herself, grabbing the bowl with the two beaten eggs in it.
She pours them in the wok, stirring again, before a buzzing sound catches her attention. She looks at her phone, the screen displaying a new text -and a smile automatically brightens her face.
'I made a quick detour, I'm sorry, but I'll be here soon.'
Mari grins as she types back, 'No need to worry hon~ I'm waiting for you~', before sending it. She then takes the speaker, waits for the song to finish -it's one of her favorites, after all!- and turns it off. She knows it's going to both annoy and weary her soon-to-be-wife if she comes back home and is only greeted by one of those 'aggressive things'. She chuckles as she remembers that ; Dia used to describe Mari's fave songs like that a lot during college, when she was unexpectedly dropping by her place. It only became worst when they moved in together -much to Mari's amusement, as Dia always makes this cute surly and snobbish expression each time she hears metal tunes.
The young woman's ears perk up when she hears the door open, and her smile instantly widens.
"Dia~," she squeals, rushing into the corridor and instantly throwing herself into Dia's arms, nuzzling her chest -a bad habit of hers. "You're here, darling!"
"Mari, not now," Dia says through gritted teeth, pushing on the blonde's shoulders to push her away.
"Eh?" Mari blinks as she straightens up, completely astounded by this reaction. "What's wrong?"
But Dia has already slammed and locked the restroom door, leaving a stunned Mari in the corridor. Alright, Dia does not like when her girlfriend shows up out of the blue and pulls her into a tight hug only to bury her face into her chest. Mari knows that. But Dia has never -never- repulsed her like that. Not even when she felt too sick or when she really wanted to go to the bathroom after a long day at work ... Something is wrong, definitely.
"Dia?" Mari hesitantly approaches the door, placing a hand on it as if it was Dia's arm or face. She even glues her ear against it, trying to hear if Dia is sobbing ...
But she flinches and steps back when Dia roars, "Leave me alone! I need to do something!"
"Uh ... Do you feel ill?"
"Mari."
Dia's voice sounds so pleading that Mari doesn't have any other choice and obliges.
"Fine. But call me if you need anything, alright?"
Hearing a muffled 'yes', Mari nods -even if Dia can't see it- and returns to the kitchen, keeping a close eye on the katsudon in preparation. She instinctively grabs the wooden spoon from earlier and fiddles with it, worry starting to gnaw at her. Dia isn't fine. The only times she acted so distant were when they were t–
No.
Dia promised her she would stop thinking about that ; and Mari promised the same thing in return.
She heaves a deep sigh and looks at the utensil in her hands, almost indifferently. No, she is mostly lost in her thoughts and–
"MARI!" Dia's screeching voice snaps her out of her reverie. "MARI!"
Aside from being screeching, Dia's voice sounds strangled, filled with tears and sobs, which makes Mari run to the restroom without even thinking first. She is about to force the door open, too worried, but Dia unlocks it, causing her to freeze for a split second. It's not only the surprise of the door opening before she can do something that strikes her ... But the tears flowing on her fiancée's face.
"Dia ..." Mari's hands automatically cup the brunette's cheeks, brushing the tears away with her thumbs. Her voice drops in a whisper, "What's wrong, did something–"
"Mari," she interrupts her, choking on another sob while leaning in Mari's frail -almost shaky- touch. "I ... I-I'm pregnant ..."
Everything around Mari seems to stand still for a few seconds as she proceeds the information. She can only hear her heart thumping in her chest, resonating in her entire body, while her mind keeps repeating Dia's words. I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. Some simple words, but with a strong meaning behind. It is even more intense for the two of them, Mari thinks, as they suggested having a baby two years ago.
... Two years ago.
"M-Mari ..." Dia amost whimpers, not expecting Mari to be as silent as that. "Please–" the imploring tone makes Mari blink "–please Mari, say something ... We've been waiting for this to happen for so long ..."
It was so sudden, impromptu, and even unforeseeable -because yes, Mari pushed aside the idea of having a baby a few months ago- that she doesn't know how to properly react. After all ... She gave up. As much as she hated that, she gave up on having a baby with the love of her life -because it was impossible ; Dia wasn't supposed to become pregnant ... not after all those unsuccessful attempts, not after all those tears and screams and fights. At a loss for words, the blonde only tries to blink her forming tears away, before pulling Dia into a strong embrace. She tucks her chin on the top of Dia's head, hugging her even tighter, as the brunette bursts into tears.
It is the second time in her entire life that someone (Dia) has rendered her speechless. The first time was ... In her spacious king-sized bed, in the huge room her father saved for her in his brand new resort hotel in Uchiura. Dia was naked, right under her, her dark and silky hair spread out all over the comfy pillows. On that night, the Kurosawa heiress was beautiful -and she was Mari's, and only Mari's.
This is the second time Dia has shut her up. And it's one of the first few times Mari's tears are freely and endlessly flowing. Tears of relief ... But tears of happiness mostly.
"I-is ... ... F-for real ...?" Mari shakily breathes in Dia's hair, one of her hands bringing the latter even closer while the other tenderly strokes these dark locks.
Dia wordlessly nods her head, giving a quick sniffle before raising her head. Watery turquoise eyes land on golden ones and, as she grips her future wife's shirt, Dia flutters them close.
No words need to be said, and Mari mimics her, before locking their lips in a gentle kiss ... Which quickly escalates, soft breaths and sighs blending together.
"I think we deserve a chocolate pudding tonight," the blonde murmurs against her lover's lips, their eyes slowly opening.
Dia's smile has never been so blinding and enthralling to Mari's eyes, and the latter can't help but capture these beaming lips again, with more fervor.

Prompt: we’re both prefects and we broke up a food fight in the great hall, but it got messy and dungbombs were involved, and now we’re both disgusting and in immediate need of a bath, and it’s okay, we can both use the prefects’ bathroom at the same time, i promise i won’t look
(btw, heads-up for a Brooklyn Nine Nine reference!)
"What the hell...?"
"Rizzoli!"
"Isles!"
"Get your house in order!"
"Don't tell me what to do! Get YOUR damn house in order!"
Maura dodged a large spoonful of mashed potatoes from one of the Weasley twins, which wound up smacking Vincent Crabbe square in the face. Jane saw a mischievous glint flash through the anger in Maura's eyes, and Jane flared up.
"You wanna go? Throw something at me, Queen of the Dead, bring it on!" When Maura did nothing but continue to glare, Jane said, "I'll even strike first!" and she grabbed a turkey leg and threw it at Maura.
Maura whipped out her wand and silently halted the turkey leg mid-air before letting it fall to the ground. "You'll have to wake up earlier in the morning than that, Rizzoli, if you want to-"
This time, Jane grabbed a handful of mashed yams, and Maura learned the hard way that a freezing spell was not very effective against less solid food. It splattered not only her face but her pristine clothing, and for several moments she was frozen in shock.
"I think you broke her," Angelina observed. "Well done!"
Jane wanted to laugh, but couldn't tell if Maura was still angry and thus if laughter would be cruel. Her face was covered by too many yams to be able to read her expression. In the blink of an eye, she magicked an enormous bowl of Brussel sprouts at Jane, where they pummeled her as painfully as paintball bullets. While Jane was distracted trying to fend them off, Maura picked up a spinach quiche, walked over, and smashed it in her face.
"How's that?" Maura asked, yelling over the food fight intensifying around them.
Though she was laughing, Jane sputtered, "Well I hate spinach and I don't love quiche, so..." She wiped the gooey green substance out of her eyes and tried to blink.
Maura moved close enough to whisper in her ear: "Oh, that's too bad." She ran her finger down Jane's cheek and sucked the quiche off. "I really love it." She winked before she walked back to her table, leaving Jane rooted to the spot.
The food fight had gotten so loud and out of control, nobody - not even Jane's friends - had noticed one of Slytherin's prefects coming on so strong to one of Gryffindor's.
Maura jumped when something wet was sloshed against her backside; she turned to see Jane holding the now-empty bowl of yams, which she promptly dropped as she walked to the Slytherin table.
"D-do you like yams?" she asked, her hand wavering near Maura's waist. "I could clean that up for you if you want."
Maura pursed her lips, trying to fight off a smile. "Big, bad, brave Gryffindor," she murmured.
They had been dancing around a mutual attraction for weeks, and this was the most direct Maura had ever been with her. Jane was so warm, she felt like she was on fire - which she soon realized she was. She jumped and looked around for something to douse her robes with, and then remembered her wand. She was about to put it out with a charm, but Maura had acted first, dumping a vat of mulled apple juice on her robes.
Jane meant to thank her, but then she saw a chafing dish at the floor near her feet. "Did one of your heathen students throw that at me?"
"Is one of those awful ginger twins about to throw a dungbomb?!"
Most of the teachers had filed out of the Great Hall before this all began. Dumbledore contended that a food fight was a healthy way for the students to exhaust themselves of nervous energy, and he was too absorbed in his magazine to pay much attention to the goings-on. The only remaining faculty were the heads of houses, on hand in case any of their students got dangerously rowdy.
"Oh, I think I've seen quite enough!" snapped McGonagall, leaning over Dumbledore to look at Snape. "Gregory Goyle just threw a chafing dish and the fire under it at Jane Rizzoli!"
"Don't work yourself into a dither, Minerva," he said, not returning her gaze but rather staring out into the melee with boredom. "Rizzoli may be muggle-born, but I believe after more than four years of magical education, she ought to be up to the task of completing a simple dousing charm - or are you worried your prefect isn't capable of such a simple-"
There was a small explosion, and almost the entire student body fled the Great Hall. George's dungbomb had gone off, a new prototype he and Fred had developed over the summer which was more powerful and painful than any other on the market. When the rotten-egg-smelling smoke had cleared, Jane and Maura were revealed to be the only students left in the hall. Both were trying to locate the dungbomb with the intent of vanishing it.
McGonagall and Snape approached, looking none too pleased; both appeared to have conjured a full-body of a Bubblehead charm, which Jane and Maura assumed was intended to keep the dungbomb’s stench from sticking to them.
"I would have hoped for better behavior from prefects!" McGonagall said, eyeing the food splattering both girls' clothes. "Would either of you care to offer an explanation for this disaster?"
Out of devotion to their students and a desire not to be a tattle-tale, neither spoke at first.
"Miss Isles?" Snape prompted her.
"Well, Harry Potter started it by throwing a turnip at Draco Malfoy," she said. "But-"
"Potter, hm?" said Snape, shooting McGonagall an unsurprised look.
"That's only because Malfoy called his friend a mudblood!" Jane protested. Glaring at Snape, she missed the sympathetic expression on Maura's face. "If you ask me, Malfoy's lucky it was a turnip and not a hex!"
"Such tolerance in Gryffindor house," Snape said with a sneer. "If you truly believe hexes are the answer to name-calling, perhaps you would be better-suited for Durmstrang, rather than the office of a Hogwarts prefect."
Jane looked at McGonagall incredulously, and her head of house did not disappoint: "You would do well to ensure your students know the difference between name-calling and blood epithets, Severus," she said. "And that goes for you as well, Miss Isles. It would behoove you and Miss Rizzoli to learn how to better de-escalate inter-house tension."
"Yes ma'am," Maura said, staring resolutely ahead.
"Which class are you off to?"
"Defense against the Dark Arts."
McGonagall's nostrils flared at the thought of her students, especially the beloved Jane Rizzoli, being subjected to the awful woman posing as a professor for that course. "Yes - well, as punishment for failing to meet our expectations as prefects, you will both be one class behind your classmates."
"What's that now?" Jane asked in confusion.
"In case you have failed to realize it, Miss Rizzoli, the pair of you smell worse than a squid ruminating on spoiled beets," McGonagall went on. "Subjecting your classmates to this stench would no doubt be a dark art of its own, and I insist you both take this next period to bathe and cleanse yourselves. I will speak with Professor Umbridge about your absence; rest assured, this is a house matter."
Snape merely nodded his consent, and Jane and Maura turned to leave the Great Hall together.
"I feel like McGonagall kind of gave us a break back there," Jane said once they were far out of earshot.
Maura looked tense. "Normally the thought of skiving off class would give me hives, but I have to admit I doubt we're missing anything by skipping Umbridge. What a joke."
"What a jerk, more like," Jane scoffed. "We're probably on the brink of war any day now, and she doesn't want us getting any practical experience!"
"An utter embarrassment. I've taken to practicing spells myself between classes, since she's so useless. I even give myself homework sometimes," she admitted with a small laugh.
Jane chuckled too. It was easy to picture Maura holed up in a classroom, teaching herself hexes and spells on her own. She seemed like a solitary person, which Jane could only imagine was by design. After all she was a beautiful, intelligent pureblood in Slytherin; Jane was sure there must've been dozens of kids in that house dying to be her friend. Jane was tempted to tell Maura about Dumbledore's Army, because surely defense against the dark arts was best practiced with other people. But she wasn't sure how thrilled the others would be with a Slytherin joining the group.
"How come you're nice to me?" Maura asked out of nowhere.
"What?"
"Most Gryffindors wouldn't buddy up to a Slytherin if their lives depended on it."
"Most Gryffindors are stupid that way. Don't tell them I said that, though." She smiled when that got Maura to chuckle. "What about you, Isles? You're in Slytherin, but you don't seem to be a muggle-hater or otherwise a dick."
Maura laughed again, but this time it was sour. "You know what I am?"
"Hot?"
Maura stopped in her tracks, as did Jane, who looked horrified that the word had slipped out. After a few moments of painful awkward silence, Jane cleared her throat and kept walking.
"Do you think so?" Maura asked, sounding pleased.
"What were you going to say?"
Maura smiled, deciding to leave it for now and show that Slytherins could be nice. "I am ambitious, I’m resourceful, I’m determined, I'm intelligent, I'm loyal but prefer to work alone, I'm very hardworking and I take pride in my accomplishments. I'm also a pureblood," she added as an afterthought.
"So it's kind of like a rectangle-square thing," Jane said.
"A what?"
"It's like Slytherins and bad people. How all rectangles are squares, but not all squares are rectangles." When Maura did nothing but frown, Jane sighed, "this is why wizards need to teach their kids math. It's basic geometry."
"I get your intended point, I just think it's a flawed syllogism," Maura snapped. "You're saying that because you know me, you know not all Slytherins are bad. And believe me, I know, my house has a reputation. But with your analogy, all bad people are Slytherins?"
"Well...that's just a thing people say, isn't it?" Jane asked awkwardly. "There's not a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin?"
"What half-baked, prejudiced first year did you overhear saying that?" Maura balked. "You really think that every person who was ever sorted into Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Gryffindor has gone on to be a total angel?"
It was hard to imagine any Hufflepuff going rogue, but Jane had to concede Maura had a point. After all, hadn't Harry Potter himself said in their first DA meeting that the wizard who helped Voldemort come back had been a Gryffindor? She shivered at the thought.
"I'm sorry," she said quietly. "That was stupid of me, you're right."
Maura was silent for a few moments, then muttered, "You sound just like my parents."
"What?"
"My parents went to school here, but moved to France after they graduated. That’s where I was born and where I grew up - and where I learned geometry, by the way,” she added snidely. “I was invited to attend Hogwarts and Beauxbatons, but my father had just accepted a position at the Ministry, so we moved to England. All of that is to say, I grew up outside of the anti-Slytherin culture produced here, and I think my parents just took it as a given that I would be a Ravenclaw like they were, so they never discussed the houses much with me. I was so excited to be sorted, and wrote them at once to tell them about it."
"What'd they say?"
Maura chuckled mirthlessly. "I can tell you word-for-word, because the reply was so short: 'We are surprised to hear you are in Slytherin. Good luck with classes.'" She sighed and shook her head. "I went home for Christmas and overheard them arguing one night. One of my aunts refused to visit while I was there. She didn't want her young kids consorting with a Slytherin. That's how I found out I was adopted, actually," she added. "It came up in their fight. My dad implied my birth parents might've Slytherins."
Jane was stunned. "Were they?"
"I don't know, I've never tried to find out anything about them. I just heard my mother mention their pureblood status and then I left. I didn't want to hear anymore. Given my dad's comment and his feelings about Slytherins, though, I'm not sure they're people I want to know." She cleared her throat. "Anyway, that was the last time I went home for Christmas. I don't want to cause any unnecessary family drama just by showing up."
Jane followed Maura to the prefects' bathroom as if in a daze. Coming from such a warm family herself, it was mind-numbing to imagine Maura's could be so distant. Her mind was buzzing, trying to come up with something comforting to say as Maura gave the password for the bathroom ("fizzy lifting drinks") and turned on the nearest faucet for the pool-sized tub.
"Do you wish you'd been sorted into Ravenclaw?" Jane blurted out, desperate for the silence to end.
Maura frowned, undoing her robe. "The Sorting Hat considered putting me in there," she said. "And who knows; maybe if I'd been aware of the deep-seeded mistrust of Slytherins in our society, I'd have asked for Ravenclaw. The Hat could tell I was indecisive and said it thought I could..." She blushed, fumbling with her tie, not wanting to sound conceited. "It said I could really distinguish myself in Slytherin, like I could really be someone special and go far." That had been a very attractive promise to a lonely child desperate to make her neglectful parents proud. "Is it weird that I feel bad for letting down a Hat?"
"Are you kidding? You didn't let anyone down! Except maybe your dipshit parents, but they're dipshits," Jane said, getting Maura to laugh a little. "Come on, seriously. I think you ARE distinguishing yourself. In Ravenclaw, you'd just have been another brain. In Slytherin, you get to be this amazing, intelligent, unique prefect who actually cares about helping out. That food fight may not have been a great example, but most of the time I feel like you have my back. I think you change the way a lot of people see Slytherins."
"Aw, Jane."
"Hm?"
"That's really...that's really sweet!"
Jane tried to act nonchalant. "Yeah, well..."
"Take your clothes off."
"What?!"
Jane's eyes widened when Maura calmly unbuttoned her own shirt and took it off. "Get undressed. Did you forget we're here to rid ourselves of the combined stench of rotten doxy eggs and Stinksap?"
In all honesty, Jane had forgotten. She'd been so swept up in Maura's history that she hadn't been paying attention to where they were going or why they were going there. It wasn't like her to get so preoccupied and oh God is she taking off her bra?!
Maura couldn't contain a giggle when Jane twisted away from her. "Are you getting shy on me, Rizzoli?" she asked, letting her bra slide down her arms. "Or is the thought of having to look at me disgusting to you?"
Jane whipped around to confront this notion- "you know that's not true!" - but quickly finished the full 360 because now Maura was topless and taking off her skirt.
"You weren't planning to bathe clothed, were you?" Maura asked. "I mean, you knew we were coming here."
"Yes, I just wasn't ... thinking this far ahead," Jane said, taking off her tie. "Because I’m stupid. Incidentally, the Hat didn't offer to put me in Ravenclaw."
Maura laughed and walked over to the faucets (Jane pivoted as she moved to avoid seeing her), then turned on one that would leave a thick layer of bubbles over the water. "You were raised in America, weren't you?"
"Yes..."
"Hm, that explains your attitude."
"Oh, ha, ha, the American is a Puritan, very funny."
"What's a Puritan?"
"Never mind."
"Well don't worry, I'm not interested in making you uncomfortable," Maura said (though Jane strongly suspected otherwise). "These bubbles are very dense; you can't see through them. I promise not to look when you get undressed."
Jane took the extra precaution of doffing her clothes behind a large sculpture of a merman. Once completely undressed, she peeked around the side of the statue to make sure Maura wasn't looking. Maura's back was to her, and Jane nimbly stepped into the enormous tub. At the sound of the water shifting, Maura turned around at once.
"There, now was that so bad?"
"This just feels weird."
"Why?"
"Because I like you and I haven't even had the chance to ask you out yet and now we're like wet and naked and only eight feet apart. And no, I can't convert that to meters but you get the idea."
Maura was smiling, but didn't say anything for a few long moments. "So you like me."
"I...I wouldn't have said that if I wasn't pretty sure you liked me too," Jane said, already feeling her resolve might crumble. "Please, don't make fun of me, just be honest with me."
Another long pause, this time with a smile that was harder to read. "How well do you think you know me, Rizzoli?"
Was she about to extend a sultry invitation to get to know her even more? Oh God please yes - God please no - this is exhilarating and terrifying and why am I feeling so dehydrated all of a sudden??
When Jane failed to answer (from nerves but also because she thought it was a rhetorical question) Maura went on, "If you knew me well you'd know I would never make fun of anybody. And as far as the question of whether I like you, I'd say it took you damn well long enough to notice. I've been flirting with you for the entire year."
Although it was what she'd been praying for for the last several months, Jane couldn't believe what she was at last hearing. Her heart felt like it was going to leap out of her chest when Maura swam closer. The water was lukewarm but she was starting to feel red hot - and, unfortunately, it showed.
"You're blushing," Maura observed. "I'm sorry, am I making you nervous?"
"I'm - no, you're not; the situation is," Jane stammered. "I mean, you're really cute and I don't imagine this is embarrassing for you - not that I looked," she added quickly, sure to keep her gaze fixed on Maura's eyes. "But you do look good. I mean, duh. I mean - oh, God..."
"You are so cute," Maura chuckled. “I mean don’t get me wrong; on a physical level, you are sexy as hell.” The fact that she could say this so simply, as if it was an objective certainty instead of a subjective compliment, was a little odd for Jane to process. Maura went on: “But your demeanor, that’s very cute. And I hope that doesn’t sound condescending; I mean I find it... kind of endearing. Given your conduct on the Quidditch pitch and the occasional bravado I’ve seen you put on, I used to assume you’d be cocky. A lot of Gryffindors can be cocky, though, in my defense.”
“Yeah, well. Feeling like you have a moral high ground can do that to a person,” Jane agreed. “So you watch the Quidditch games, huh?”
“I used to prefer taking the time to study, because it basically guaranteed that the common room - or any room - would be empty. But then I learned the Gryffindor team had a very cute Chaser, and I decided I had to check out at least one game.”
“Hm, Johnson? Bell?”
“Are you really going to tease me after I promised not to tease you?”
“I...sorry,” Jane said, averting her gaze. “Humor’s my defense mechanism.”
“What do you need to be defensive about?”
“My own nerves, I guessssshhhhiiit....”
Jane had turned to look at Maura, who was leaning sideways agains the wall of the pool to face her. Maura had innocently let her elbow rest on the edge of the tub, letting her head rest against her fist, and this had resulted in one of her breasts rising above the layer of dense bubbles. After letting herself look a second too long, Jane almost snapped her neck turning it to look away.
“I’m sorry!” Maura squealed, bringing her arm back into the water.
“God, I’m sorry! I feel like a skeeze!”
“You’re not a skeeze, Jane. If I was worried about the possibility of you seeing me, I’d be on the other side of the pool and not letting anything but my head and neck above the bubbles. And you’d be a skeeze if you saw my discomfort and actively tried to make me show myself. Would you be this skittish if you were in here with someone else?”
“Someone I didn’t like, you mean? Probably not.” When Maura started backing away, Jane reached blindly for her hand underwater. She skimmed Maura’s waist before catching her wrist. “Don’t go, though!”
Maura smiled at the gesture. “I was going to distance myself so I don’t make you uncomfortable.”
“No, that’s okay, this is a good kind of uncomfortable.”
“Hm. I didn’t know there was a good kind,” Maura mused. “Discomfort always makes me feel I’ve done something humiliating, or that I ought to hide myself away. What’s the good kind like?”
“Well, it pushes you to do something. Something you’d want to do, but would usually be too shy or too scared to do.”
“And you’re scared to take a bath.”
“Scared to take a bath with you!” Jane said, joining Maura in her laughter. “See, bravery means different things to different people. Sure, for Harry Potter it means fighting off Death Eaters. I’ll get there someday. Right now I’m working on the bravery required to be naked in front of a girl I like before I’ve even asked her out.”
Maura’s immediate response was, “Would you like to go on a date with me to Hogsmeade this weekend?”
“Yes.”
“You’re not worried about being seen cozying up to a Slytherin?”
Jane paused to make sure she gave an honest answer. “We’ll kind of be like a Hogwarts Romeo & Juliet. Or, hm. I don’t know what the wizarding equivalent of that would be. I mean-”
“I get the reference,” Maura said, not unkindly. “Shakespeare was the focus of our literature unit in Muggle Studies this fall.”
“You take Muggle studies?”
“Yes, I think it’s fascinating. I’m not surprised by your surprise, though; I’m the only Slytherin in the class and Professor Burbage told me she doesn’t generally get a lot of us,” Maura admitted.
“Oh. Huh. I hope we don’t end up like Romeo and Juliet, though.”
“You don’t?”
“Well, no. The play ends with their double suicide.”
“What?! It does?! Why do people like it so much?! Gah...never mind. What I should’ve said was, yeah, I’m sure some people might give me some guff about going out with a Slytherin, but I don’t give a flying bowtruckle fart about that. I’d be proud to be out with you, no matter what house you were in.”
Maura smiled so wide, Jane couldn’t help reflecting it. “Would it be a good or bad uncomfortable if I kissed you?” Maura asked.
“Here? Right now?”
“I can wait.”
“No, no, now’s...that’d be fine. That’d be great. That’d be--”
Jane shut up when Maura took gentle hold of her face. Her gaze dipped from Jane’s eyes to her lips and back again, then she leaned in and kissed her. Jane felt almost suffocated by immediate excitement, overwhelmed by the softness of Maura’s lips and the intensity with which her heart was pounding. The pounding was matched elsewhere when Jane instinctively brought Maura closer, pulling their bodies together. Jane was shot at warp-speed into new realms of pleasure, feeling as dizzy as if transported there by portkey. But within moments, the reality of what she was doing registered with her and she all but vaulted away from Maura, a stream of obscenities tumbling out of her mouth as she turned bright red.
“I concur,” Maura said breathlessly.
Heart still beating rapidly, Jane glanced over at Maura and saw her smiling. “That was... wow. That was wow,” Jane said. “Judging by your expression, I guess I don’t need to apologize. That was just a ... a heck of a lot more than I intended to do.”
“I know,” Maura said, treading a small distance away. “I just can’t wait to come back here with you sometime after you’ve been dating me for a while.” She laughed when something occurred to her. “Maybe I can get some extra credit for my-”
“Don’t say it.”
“-Muggle studies!”
“You dork!” Jane laughed, splashing her.
“Well, as the Bard said: but soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is a dork.”
That one got a genuine laugh out of Jane. She couldn’t wait to see what else Maura had up her sleeves.

*
"No, I can't be gay. They don't want me to be gay," he cried, trying to hide his face. Dan didn't want anyone to notice he was crying, even though someone was bound to. He was sat in the principal's office, his English teacher, principal, best friend and maybe boyfriend Phil, and the guidance counselor crowded around him. Dan wished they would give him some space.
Him and Phil had gotten caught kissing underneath the bleachers by the English teacher during 5th period, which was why they were in the office. The office normally would have called their parents but considering the fact that both of their parents were extreme Christians decided against it. The principal had then called the guidance counselor up to come and speak to them. "My parents are gonna kill me. Please don't tell them, please."
Dan tried to hide another sob, shuddering in the chair. He could feel everyone's gaze on him. It was nerve-wracking. Phil hesitantly placed his hand on Dan's back, rubbing it up and down, clearly trying to be soothing. When his parents heard he was going to be kicked out, he was sure of it.
*
WEEKS EARLIER
"Class! Please pay attention!" The teacher demanded at the front of the class. "For our new assignment we will be studying how music can affect mostly silent scenes in TV shows and movies. This will be a week long project, due this Friday, and will be a test grade. You may pick one partner, I have to approve the partnership before you start working. You will both receive the same test grade, pick wisely. You may begin."
Dan quickly glanced to Phil, knowing for certain that they would pick each other. They always did. His gaze met with Phil's and he nodded, granting Dan permission to get approval from the teacher. Dan walked up to her desk, noticing how Phil quickly moved to get a laptop from the cart. He loved how quickly they worked together.
Dan walked back to their desk, Phil now having the laptop set up. "My place tonight?" Dan asked Phil as he slid into his seat. "We can order pizza and knock this project out in a few hours. If we do it again tomorrow night we'll be done and then we can have this class period for the rest of the week to do our homework during the day."
"I love how your brain works," Phil grinned. "Let me text my mom during break, it should be fine though. We're both guys, not like we'll do anything when your parents aren't home." Phil laughed.
"Yeah," Dan gave a weak smile and tried to give a convincing laugh, probably failing dramatically.
*
"I can't believe we didn't have any homework today," Dan exclaimed as they started the walk to his house. "That's never happened before!"
Phil laughed, speeding up so he could keep up with Dan who had started to skip. "I know! We might be able to finish our project tonight, then we'd have almost the entire week free!"
"Can you imagine? We could get a start on our homework every day, or maybe read, it would be great!" You could call them both nerds but they loved to stay ahead in school. It was something important to the both of them, and probably one of the reasons they clicked so well together. They had been friends since grade school, meeting after Dan moved from across the country. It was frightening and overwhelming, to say the least.
Dan had just walked onto the playground for the first time. It was a dreadful day. Dan didn't get to start at the beginning of the school year, much less the beginning of the week. He had to be the new transfer student that joined the school on a random Wednesday in March. It was terrible and made a person realize how alone you could be.
Dan had carefully walked through the playground. He didn't really want to go down a slide - he was nine now and much too old for slides, at least that's what his brother said. He saw the start of woods at the edge of the playground. Dan tentatively walked towards one of them, sitting down on the ground. He was out of the way, no one had to talk to him, and he could be alone. It was perfect. Until a boy with ginger hair had come along.
"Hi!" The boy had said, standing in front of Dan and blocking the very little sun. It had been an rather gloomy day, something Dan appreciated. It matched his mood perfectly. "I'm Phil! You're the new kid, right?"
"No," Dan had said, sneering at the boy. "I'm the wildly popular kid, obviously." The boy, Phil, had just laughed before he sat down next to him. How could he! Dan had wanted to be alone and he had thought he made that quite clear. What other type of person sits against a tree away from everyone else?
"You're funny," Phil said. "Do you want to see my Pokemon cards? I just got some new ones yesterday! And a binder to hold them in!" Dan didn't want to admit it but he was rather curious to see his collection. He didn't have loads himself but he enjoyed trading.
"Okay," He said, standing up after Phil and following him to a picnic table. Other kids were surrounding it and Dan tried to remain calm about it.
"You'll get to meet some of my friends too, they're all very nice, I'm sure you like them," Phil assured, sitting down at one edge of the table and grabbing a navy blue binder. "The girl with the long brown hair is Louise and the girl with the short brown hair is Dodie. They're probably my best friends. And then Connor and Troye are over by that tree." He waved to the two boys that were playing ball.
"Why do you have girl best friends?" Dan asked, trying to figure out why Phil didn't say Troye and Connor were his best friends instead.
Phil just shrugged. "Why shouldn't I? They're nice and they aren't rough like some boys. Well, Connor and Troye aren't rough and noisy either. That's why I like them so much." Dan figured that this reasoning was good enough. It actually sounded pleasant to him. He hated when boys were rowdy and destroyed things. It was always better when you could just talk. Dan decided right then and there that he would give Phil and his friends a chance. Phil seemed kind enough.
Ever since that day they had all been friends. However, one thing changed. Dan was now definitely Phil's best friend and it been that way for a long while. Dan would never tell Phil this, but he was so glad that he talked to him on that day. He couldn't imagine where he would be if he didn't have Phil, and he was sure that Phil felt the same way. Dan looked at his best friend, listening to him speak about the latest video game update he had installed. Dan took in the way he kept his gaze on the pavement most of the time but occasionally flickered up to meet his, noticed how he always gave Dan a small smile. He was so lucky to have Phil in his life.
Dan could only hope that never changed.
*
"Ugh," Phil moaned from Dan's bed. "Can we please order pizza now? I am so done with this project."
"We're almost done. If we order pizza now we'll be nearly finished by the time it gets here. We could finish it and proofread after we eat. Sound good?" Dan proposed. Phil nodded glumly from his bed, an arm flung over his eyes. "Are you tired?"
Phil let out a grunt of confirmation. Dan wished he could go lie down on his bed next to Phil but figured that would be very weird and he didn't want Phil to think that Dan was acting weirdly. He couldn't notice any changes in Dan.
"Are you going to church on Wednesday? My brother is going to be leading the youth group." Dan questioned, going onto their favorite pizza website and starting to place their order. They had studied together so many times Dan knew what Phil always wanted and vice versa. It made Dan happy to know the little things about Phil, more than it did with his other friends. In fact, when it came to Phil, so many things were different about him. Dan automatically cared more about Phil when it came to anything, as terrible as that sounded. It's not that he didn't care about his other friends, it's just that he really cared about Phil. It's not like this was a bad thing, it just meant that they are close. But Dan was starting to wonder. Why hadn't he ever felt this way for anyone else before? Did that mean anything? Dan was shaken out of his thoughts by Phil responding.
"Yeah, we are. Mum doesn't want to miss your brother's first sermon. It's apparently a big deal." Phil spoke up. "I mean what is he even going to talk to us about? It's not like he knows way more than we do, he's only a few years older. Just because he's graduated with a degree from some fancy private school doesn't mean he can magically make a bunch of teenagers listen to him, no matter what they taught him."
Dan laughed, agreeing with Phil's statement. And half an hour later when the doorbell rang and Phil got up and stretched, Dan tried not to follow his shirt as it rose on his stomach. He didn't want to think about what this meant. He really, really didn't.
*
"Daniel! Time to leave!" His mother yelled up the stairs. Dan quickly slipped his shoes on and ran the stairs. He had known that if he was late his mother would get mad at him. If there was one thing that his family took seriously it was religion. Dan had been baptized when he was seven. His views on Christianity had changed as he grew older but he knew he believed in a God. It just made sense to him.
He knew Phil was kind of similar to him. He had also been raised in the religion, his parents a similar level of conservative to Dan's, which was pretty conservative. Phil had expressed his dislike of the beliefs that most of the church shared. The fact that the girls had to go through a ceremony where they received a flower, symbolizing their virginity and how it shouldn't go to anyone until marriage. The guys had no lesson on this. It was sexist and hetero-normative, something both of them despised.
Both Dan and Phil considered themselves open-minded, especially in comparison to the members of their church. Dan didn't know all of Phil opinions, but he knew they were more liberal than some of the youth group. Troye and Connor, mutual friends of theirs, had come out a year or so ago and Dan knew that Phil was nothing but supportive. Dan didn't know how Phil would react to a guy having a crush on him. Especially if that guy was his best friend. Dan wasn't sure if he had a crush on him, but it would certainly explain a lot. He never liked a girl before but he had just thought that was because he was being a good Christian. His mom had said that some guys don't really like girls until their later teens, but Dan still didn't like a girl, even though he was seventeen. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. He could remember really liking one guy and wanting to be friends with him, or the one time where he got really jealous when a girl started talking to his old best friend before he moved.
Dan sighed, relaxing against the seat in the car, gazing out the window. He wished his head would just shut up or figure out what he was feeling. He was already looking forward to seeing Phil at church, even though they had walked home together only hours ago. He couldn't talk to him about what was going on in his head but he could figure out his views and opinions. First, he had to listen to his brother's sermon. Maybe he could ask his brother. He couldn't be too obvious about it though, his brother was basically a pastor now.
They arrived at the church, Dan quickly spotting Phil and making his way towards him. Dan had to be there early because of his brother, Phil just came early because Dan would be there early. It made Dan feel warm on the inside.
"Hi!" Phil said, scooting over on the pew so that Dan could sit. They were in the Sanctuary, the room where the services where held on Sunday mornings and the adult service on Wednesday. Dan and Phil would be in the youth room tonight. Dan always liked being in the Sanctuary when no one else was in it. He always felt closer to God. It felt holier without more people in it. Dan sat next to Phil, their shoulders touching. He leaned into him, resting his head on his shoulder. He liked that he could do this, he knew that Phil didn't like most people touching him. He had three exceptions; Dan, his mom, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Dan was honored to be included in the same group as Sarah Michelle Gellar, who was basically all Phil would ever want in a woman.
"You okay?" Phil asked, probably noticing how much quieter Dan was than usual.
"Yeah," Dan sighed. "I'm just thinking. A lot. And it's annoying."
"Well, what are you thinking about?" Dan sighed again.
"Do think God loves me, no matter what?"
"Considering the fact that the bible says that God has created each and every one of us in His image, loving us unconditionally, would support that claim." Phil said, confident in his answer.
"But do you think that goes for gay people too?" Dan questioned, figuring that he might as well figure out what Phil thought.
"I would think so. If the bible says we are created in His image, why wouldn't that be included?" Phil debated. "If we go by that, God could be anyone. He could be a black trans woman. God is everyone and everything, He is everywhere. I know more and more people are using they/them pronouns for God. I think it makes sense."
"But what about all the people that say gay people go to Hell?" Dan was trying to figure out everything. Phil seemed to have answers to everything he asked so far.
"Well, there are contradicting verses. The bible says that anyone who accepts him goes to Heaven. Why wouldn't that include religious gay people? People in Christianity tend take the two verses in the bible talking about homosexuality to judge an entire group of people. One of those verses weren't even for us, it was for the people of the Old Testament. We don't have to wear one piece of fabric anymore, we get piercings, it's considered okay. We don't follow any of the other rules." Phil sighed, thinking some more. "I think the reason some gay people reject religion is because they've been rejected. Religion is so hurtful to so many people. I know God isn't happy with it. Why would He be? He is love, and that's all He wants for us. The fact that people use the bible, which He influenced, to hate must be hurtful."
Dan let himself relax into Phil more as he rambled on, already feeling better. His eyes caught onto the cross that rested against the wall at the front of the church. He felt at peace in the church for the first time. He let the feeling wash over him, making him feel rested.
"Why are you worrying anyways?" Phil asked, noticing that Dan had closed his eyes.
"Can you promise not to tell anyone? Please?" Dan asked, already worrying like crazy at Phil could say.
"I promise I won't." Phil promised, locking eyes with him when Dan opened his eyes.
"I think I might be gay." He whispered, feeling like there was a lump in his throat. His vision got blurry and he willed himself not to cry. He broke his gaze with Phil, eyes resting on the cross.
"Hey, it's okay," Phil said softly. He moved to hug Dan, their chins resting on each other's shoulders. "I still love you, you're still my best friend. Don't think you're getting out of being stuck with me so easy." Dan let out a watery laugh, closing his eyes and letting himself be held.
"Thanks," Dan said, pulling back.
"What made you start questioning your sexuality? Is it a boy?" Phil asked. He got excited, acting as if he had been struck by lighting. "This is why we never talked about girls! You didn't want to! Now we can talk about crushes!" His voice kept getting louder and louder, Dan getting more and more worried that someone would overhear, like his mom or brother.
"Shh, keep your voice down! We're in church," Dan laughed, Phil apologizing. "But yes, it is because of a boy." Phil got a glint in his eyes, the one Dan knew well. It was the look where Phil was trying to figure something else and he was determined to get it right.
"Who is it?" He asked, clearly curious.
"I'm not telling," Dan said, blushing.
"You have to! I've always told you about the girls I like." Phil turned so that he could pull his feet up onto the pew. If either of their mothers saw him, he would be in trouble. Dan mirrored his movements.
"Ugh, fine," Dan said. "It's, uh . . . it's Troye."
"Oh," Phil said, dejected. Was it just Dan's wishful imagination or did Phil actually look upset? He started to brighten up. "Am I allowed to tease you around him?"
"No!" Dan laughed, already dreading the lie. Phil gave him a smile, Dan smiling back. His mother came to warn them that they had five minutes to get upstairs into the youth room before the adults started pouring into the Sanctuary. They scrambled out of the pew, racing to see who could get up the stairs fastest. Dan ended up winning, but just by a few seconds. They took their seats on the only couch. The youth room had a pool table, table tennis, and a hockey table, but those were all in the back of the room. The front of the room was filled with bean bag chairs and old chairs that they had thrifted over the years. The only couch was basically Dan and Phil's, everyone knew that they sat there every Sunday and Wednesday. It was a low flowery couch with mismatched throws pillows. Dan loved it.
Dan settled close to Phil, looking up at his brother, standing on the platform at the front of the room. Dan could tell that his brother was nervous, it was obvious. His brother was wringing his hands and stuttering every now and then. Dan almost felt bad for him, but it was hilarious. His brother was rarely nervous. Dan was going to enjoy this.
"So, kids, well you're not really kids, so teens, today we're going to talk about something that a lot of guys have probably dealt with, whether it's your friends or social media," His brother started. Dan was wondering what it was, sex, fame? "That something is homosexuality, something that is threatening the youth of our nation."
Dan's face went pale, his limbs stiff. He could feel Phil stiffen next to him. He was not going to enjoy this one bit.
*
"How was Aaron's service, Dan?" His mother asked as they drove home. His dad was staying later to help take down some decorations with Phil's dad. They were going to ride home later, that way the rest of their families could leave at the normal time.
"It was good, yeah," Dan said, staring out the window, trying to process his thoughts. His brother had said all the things that any other preacher had said before. It still hurt though. Phil had grabbed his hand halfway through the service, the action concealed by a throw pillow. "Very informative."
"Aw, that's good! I'm so proud of you, Aaron. What did you talk about? I bet it was good." His mother said, turning into the McDonald's drive thru.
"He talked about how all gay people are going to hell." Dan bitterly said, not being able to hold back his bitter tone.
"Dan! Tone, please," His mom said, pausing to order. "I'm sure that your brother meant well, I'm sure that he didn't say anything incorrect."
"The bible can be interrupted in many different ways! Gay people can be religious, and he could've hurt someone! What if there was a kid there who had just realized he or she was gay? How do you think they dealt with being told that they are going to hell, even though they believe in God? It could be damaging." Dan argued, trying to get his mom to understand his view.
"Dan, please, people chose to be gay," His brother said.
"No, they don't! Ask literally any gay person, they don't chose to be gay. When did you chose to be to straight?" Dan was hoping that his brother would realize his wrongs, or his mom would at least come to his side.
"Why do even care?" His brother shot back. "You're straight." Dan could not come out, he just realized, he could not do that.
"I have gay friends! I know they didn't chose to be gay." Dan said, he wasn't lying, he just wasn't telling the whole truth.
"Dan, just accept that you don't agree with each other," His mother butted in. "I'm sure that your brother didn't mean to hurt anyone and it was a lovely lesson." She handed Dan his bag of food, ending the discussion.
*
"Dan! Why aren't you ready for school?" His mother asked, opening his door. Dan startled awake, sitting up in his bed. He must've fallen asleep after his alarm went off. He stayed up most of the night online trying to figure out what to do about being gay. He needed to get comfortable with his sexuality more and then start to slowly come out when he felt ready, at least that's what most people on the internet said. He looked at his mom in that moment, trying to figure out what she would say about him being gay. Would she kick him out? Would she hate him and disown him? Out of his mom and his dad, his mom was definitely the kinder and more compassionate one. If he wasn't accepted by her he'd be screwed.
"I must've fallen asleep again, sorry. I couldn't sleep well last night," Dan sighed, rubbing at his eyes.
"Well, you missed the bus and I have to get to work. You're going to be late either way, do you want to just stay home? Do you have any tests or anything today?"
"No, I don't," Dan said, checking the time, it was 7:20 a.m. His bus came at 7:15 and his school at started 7:40.
"Alright, just stay home today. Your brother will be home today as well, try not to fight. I know how you two get."
"Okay, mom, love you," Dan said, starting to get out of bed.
"I love you, too," She replied, closing the door behind.
*
"You're a traitor!" Phil shouted the moment he entered Dan's house.
Dan laughed. "What makes you say that?"
"You left me! We had a heart-to-heart yesterday and you didn't even have the nerve to show up to school today!" Phil laughed, taking his backpack off and letting it rest against the wall by the door. "I thought we had something special here."
"I'm sorry," Dan said, laughing at Phil. "I slept in on accident. Mom decided to let me stay home."
"Well, it was still rude," Phil said quieter. "I brought you the homework so you don't get behind."
"Aw, thank you," Dan said, accepting the folder Phil gave to him. "You're like my prince."
"Here to save you from the scary dragon of behind work." Phil giggled, going along.
"My hero," Dan placed a hand over his heart, laughing quietly with Phil. "My brother's home by the way. I don't know where though, just warning you."
"I can't swear, gosh darn it!" Phil joked.
Dan snorted. "I have never heard you swear. Ever."
"Because somebody's always been around!" Phil rebutted. Dan rolled his eyes, walking into the kitchen, Phil trailing behind him. He got out the ice cream and ice cream cones, Phil's favorite snack besides popcorn.
"So, you know how you told me who you like yesterday," Phil started.
"Yes?" Dan raised his eyebrow, scooping out ice cream for both him and Phil.
"Are you planning on telling that person?" Phil asked, voice hesitant. Dan sighed, knowing that he had to come clean.
"I lied to you, I don't have a crush on Troye," Dan made sure to keep his voice down seeing as they were in the kitchen and he didn't know if his brother could hear or not. "I have a crush on another guy."
Phil perked. "Do I know him?"
Dan bit his lip, glancing at Phil from under his lashes. "Um, you do. Really well. He's kind of my best friend."
"Oh," Was Phil's response. Dan couldn't look at him. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, you know my crush as well."
Phil had a crush on somebody? And he didn't mention it until now? Dan felt a little bit betrayed. "Yeah? Who is it?" Dan asked, his voice quiet.
"My best friend."
Dan looked up at him, just now realizing that the ice cream was dripping, and took in Phil's expression. His cheeks were a light pink, his eyes downcast and staring at the floor.
"Really?" Dan asked, trying to not let the hopefulness seep into his tone. It felt like at any moment Phil would jump up and tell him it was a joke, laugh at him, and leave.
"Yeah," Phil looked up, his eyes connecting with Dan's.
"Oh," Dan said, repeating what Phil had said only a bit before. "Well, I'm sure he likes you back."
"Is that so?" Phil said, gaining some of his usual confidence back and cocking an eyebrow. "Would you care to confirm that?"
"I'm sure I could think of some way to," Dan said, leaning over the counter, completely forgetting about the ice cream.
"Yeah, I have a few ideas too," Phil leaned over too, their noses touching.
"Yeah," Dan breathed. He moved his head closer, finally making his and Phil's lips touch. It was unlike Dan had anything had ever felt before. Too soon, Dan was unlocking their lips and looking at Phil. His eyes darted down to his lips, then his cheeks, and back to his eyes. Phil's cheeks were flushed with pink. Dan very quickly decided that he want to do that again. Dan grabbed Phil's hand and dragged him upstairs to his room. They had at least another hour or two until his mom got home, they could kiss quite a bit.
"Are we not talking about this?" Phil asked, following him up the stairs.
"What is there to talk about? I like you, you like me, let's kiss," Dan said, closing the door and shoving Phil against it. He had only made out with one person in his life and he fully intended to have made out with two by the end of the day. Phil shrugged and let Dan kiss him senseless.
*
They had eventually moved to the bed, taking breaks between kissing and talking about whatever random thing they wanted to talk about. They were cuddling and Dan was loving it. Dan was facing Phil and vice versa, Dan's arms wrapped around Phil's waist. Their legs were wrapped together. Dan felt like he was going to burst into giggles at any moment, which he had been doing for the past half hour. Phil would just laugh with him and pull him closer.
It was one of those moments. Dan had burst into giggles once again when he had realized that Phil liked him back. They had kissed, they were cuddling. It was all hitting him and he couldn't help but giggle over and over. This time Phil had pulled him closer and put a finger under his jaw, guiding Dan's face to his. Their lips met and Dan happily sighed into the kiss, closing his eyes and basking in the feeling of Phil's lips on his.
All of a sudden, his door was being opened, his mother in the doorway, clearly angry. "Daniel Howell! Why is there melted ice cream downstairs on the counter? I know it wasn't your brother, he's lactose intolerant for heaven's sake-" She abruptly stopped when she took in Dan and Phil on the bed. "What are you doing?" Her voice had gone cold, her expression a guarded type of anger.
Dan sat up, knocking Phil's arms off of him. Their legs continued to be tangled together and Dan wanted to untangle them but knew that it would draw more attention. He could tell he was on the verge of crying. He knew his parents' views. "It's not what it looks like!" Phil had sat up as well and Dan could tell that he was scared. Dan's mom was probably going to tell Phil's. Phil had told Dan that his parents didn't care about other people being gay but they didn't want him to be gay. If word got back to them things could go from bad to worse.
"And what does it look like?" His mother asked, stepping into the room. Dan needed to think of a convincing argument.
"We were just tired! Phil came over after school and we were talking and then we laid down! That's all that happened." Dan tried to assure her, convince her that nothing was going on.
"I don't believe you," His mom said. "Phil, I think you should go home. Dan and I need to have a talk." Dan felt like crying as he watched Phil solemnly nod and get out of the bed, walking past his mom and then down the stairs. Dan looked at the bed, refusing to look at his mom.
Dan heard his mother walking closer to the bed and then felt her sit. "Why did you do this?" She asked, her voice fake sympathetic. Dan shrugged, not wanting to tell her about how Phil made his insides squirm more with every passing day. "Are you gay?" He did not want to answer that question, possibly ever, so he just shrugged again.
"I don't think you need to be seeing Phil anymore," His mom decided after more silence from him. "He's clearly influencing you in a negative way. I don't like it."
His mom got up and left the room, leaving Dan to wonder about how his life had changed so dramatically in less than twelve hours.
*
"What did she say? Why didn't she call my parents? I wouldn't have come out to my parents last night if I had known she wasn't going to call," Phil asked at school the next day.
"She said that we need to stop hanging out and that we shouldn't speak at school but I'm obviously not going to listen to her," Dan replied, leaning into Phil's side. They were sitting on a bench outside of their school while waiting for the first period bell to ring. They had about ten minutes. "I don't know why she didn't call your parents, I was certain that she would have called them. What did they say?"
"I thought they would have cared more but they were completely chill with it. Well, not completely but they weren't mad or anything. I was afraid that they were going to kick me out."
"Well I guess that's good." Dan said, considering what to do about his mom and dad's decision. "I still want to see you. I say that we still hang out but 'forget' to mention it to my family."
"Sounds good," Phil said, snuggling into Dan and hiding his face in Dan's neck. Dan smiled, clasping Phil's hand in his.
*
Three weeks had passed and Dan and Phil had still managed to hide it from Dan's family. Dan was happier than he had been in a while, despite his family's views. He had Phil though, and his supportive friends, it was all fine.
Dan had come to the conclusion that God didn't hate him or Phil. Why would He? Him and Phil had so many discussions about it. Of course they still believed in Him, they still wanted to go to church. Why would their sexuality change that?
"My parents are considering sending me to a camp this summer," Dan mentioned.
"What?" Phil said, shocked.
"I know, I'm going to have to convince them not to send me. I'd be 18, though, they wouldn't be able to force me to."
"Well, you're always welcome at my house, you know that," Phil reminded him. Dan nodded.
"I know," He said, giving him a smile.
"Good," Phil said, smiling back.
*
"Hey, I have a great idea," Phil said at lunch, sitting across from Dan. He raised an eyebrow at Phil.
"And that would be?"
"Skip fifth period and make out under the bleachers," Phil suggested.
"And they say romance is dead," Dan said dryly. Phil laughed and Dan cracked a smile. "But yeah, let's do that."
Him and Phil had gotten caught kissing underneath the bleachers by the English teacher during 5th period, which why they were in the office. They normally would have called their parents but considering the fact that both of their parents were extreme Christians it was decided against.
Phil took a seat in the seat next to him. He reached his arm over the armrest, it wrapped around Dan's shoulder and pulled him as close as they could be with two armrests between them.
"We have to alert your parents, I'm sorry. You were skipping class and breaking school code, we legally have to inform them," The principal said from his desk. Dan wiped his arms once more, wiping the tears off of his cheeks that were still there. He really wished he hadn't started crying, it was embarrassing, to say the least. Phil had seen him crying but only once, and that was when he broke his arm when he was ten.
Dan closed his eyes, letting his head drop against Phil's shoulder. He wished he had never been stupid enough to skip class to kiss Phil under the bleachers.
*
"I want you out of this house. If you are old enough to be a homosexual, you are old enough to find a place to live," His dad said, opening the door to the house. "You have an hour to pack."
Dan darted up the stairs, slamming his bedroom door and pulling his suitcase out of the closet and stuffing all the clothes he could into it. Then he grabbed his backpack and packed away his chargers and some more clothes. He quickly texted Phil, telling him he was about to walk over to his house with his stuff. Grabbing his favorite pillow and a toothbrush, he trampled down the stairs. Once outside of the door, he started the walk to Phil's house. He never looked back.
*
Years had passed, Dan and Phil were still dating and still in love.
After they graduated they went to the same college, even sharing a dorm together. It made them closer and they felt more in love than ever before.
Both of them felt at home in their new church, a place that was accepting to all people, no matter what. They loved it.
Dan was a teacher, something he had always wanted to do. He loves his job, the kids, and his coworkers. He was happy and content and loved going into work everyday.
His parents hadn't talked to him since he was 17 on the day that they kicked him out. He was devastated for months after but eventually became happier than ever before, thanks to Phil and his family.
Phil was a video editor. He worked from home, which is very important considering they had just adopted a three year old from China. She was the light of their world and they couldn't wait for her to grow up with them.
They would be better parents than Dan's had been. He was sure of it. And that's what was important.

Bughead Prompt
Anonymous asked: Can you do one involving Archie getting jealous of the Bughead relationship and Jug being scared Betty will leave him for Archie of course Bughead will pull through! Love your writing btw!
dorky-unicorns asked: Can I request a fic where Jughead and Betty are dating and they have to deal with a jealous Archie like he tells them they can't be together cause Betty is still in love with him. But Betty is having none of Archies shit and she explains that she loves Jughead and she thinks she's been in love with him for a very long time but she just got her feelings muddled. And then obviously lots of Fluff from an overly affectionate Jughead please :))
I hope you both like this! Warning: It’s sappy. :P
Archie had thought that the biggest heartbreak he was going to face at least for his two more years of adolescence to come was one and only, Ms. Grundy leaving for good and leaving him behind.
He was wrong.
The revelation came a usual Friday night at Pop’s when Betty and Jughead not only sat next to each other at a booth across him and the rest of the gang, sharing a chocolate milkshake – Jughead’s favorite – along with their respective orders, but also held hands over the table, announcing with stupid, shit-eating matching grins that they were indeed a couple. Veronica was ecstatic, Kevin was supportive and Archie…well, Archie was confused.
Betty was always his best friend. Their friendship weighted what seemed like ages and the two of them went way back, as Jughead himself had pointed a handful of times. Betty and Archie were always a pair, an inseparable duo; the stability to his spontaneously, the mellow aura to his teenage angst. It was hard, let alone impossible, for the redheaded boy to think of her as the half of another pair. Betty was supposed to compliment his side, no one else’s.
So that Monday morning Archie stepped foot in Riverdale High drowned in childish grumpiness, like when he was seven and his dad had refused to buy him the newest figures for his Playmobil collection, brooding about it for a whole amount of two days just out of spite. He hoped that something had changed over the weekend, the weekend that he had deliberately avoided getting in touch with any of his two friends, and all of this sorcery was over just as quickly as it started.
But he was proven wrong yet again, once the bell rang and he headed to the first class of the day, Chemistry, the seat next to Jughead not being empty waiting for him as always but occupied with none other than the bubbly blonde who was talking miles next to Jughead’s smiley – smiley – face. Archie stopped dead in his tracks, taken aback by the sudden change of reality and genuinely not knowing what to do when none of them seemed to even notice his presence, before finally taking a seat next to Moose, a desk behind Kevin and Veronica.
“Who knew a day will come that I would look at Jughead and actually think he is cute.” Kevin mused, he and Veronica, along with half the class to be honest, watching without shame the newly formed couple interact across them. Archie flinched in annoyance.
“Well, I can definitely get used to this sight.” The brunette next to him admitted, she and Kevin titling their heads in unison to keep having their eyes on the couple as one of their classmates passed by and momentarily blocked their view. “I’m getting a very nice Holly – Paul vibe from them.” Veronica hummed in delight, referring to her favorite love story of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
“Or Jack and Rose.” Kevin added, Archie getting fed up behind them and opening his text book, pretending to go over some of his notes.
“But not with that ending.” Ronnie objected, earning a ‘definitely not’ from the boy next to her, their eyes still glued on the couple in a prying manner.
“You’ll end up with squint from all that staring.” The bitter ginger murmured with his head buried in his book, faking indifference but failing miserably.
“Like I don’t see you trying to look over your shoulder, Archiekins.” Veronica sent him an accusing glare for only a moment before bringing her eyes back to the couple of the hour.
“Please, I don’t even care.” Archie shrugged in what he thought was convincing enough to back up his statement.
“Well, sucks for you, cos they are adorable!” Kevin colored the adjective with a sickening to the redhead’s ears dreamy tone, the sulking boy hesitantly looking over his shoulder again, catching a glimpse of Jughead writing something on Betty’s notebook and the girl offering him her scarlet blush along with a lovely look under her full, doe eyes before leaving a butterfly kiss on his cheekbone. Archie was minutes away from standing up and objecting loudly because that was his look, the look Betty always had in store for him, and it wasn’t fair for anyone, let alone Jughead, to steal it from him.
Kevin’s still sickening tone of voice disrupted his thoughts and held him down last minute, the Sherriff’s son squealing along with Veronica at the couple’s cuteness, but thankfully the chemistry teacher entered the room and all interactions were caught short. The Andrews boy remained a grumpy cat all first period, clicking and unclicking his pen nervously during the whole hour of class, aggravating even the apathetic up until now Moose next to him, who angrily took the pen from his hands and threw it to the ground, before delivering a rather hard punch to his teammate’s shoulder to shut him the hell up.
And when the lesson thankfully ended, Archie was the first one to jump from his seat and gather his things in a hurry, passing in front of the happy couple that came to join their friends and only offering a look to Betty, a hard, somehow accusatory one, before storming out of class, Jughead seeming invisible to him.
“What’s up with him?” Betty questioned with a clueless frown, the raved haired boy next to her raising an eyebrow at the speeding figure of their best friend.
“I guess somebody needs to get laid.” Veronica answered deadpanned, earning a vigorous agreeing nod from Kevin and an eye roll from the couple.
Archie was thanking the gods above that his schedule that day didn’t evolve more joined classes with the duo that seemed to now irk him to a point of anger and annoyance. He even succeeded in pushing them out of his mind completely and actually enjoy his practice with Josie and the Pussycats but that nauseous feeling appeared in his stomach once again at lunch, when armed with his food tray, the redhead jogged down the stairs of Riverdale High back yard in search of his friends. They weren’t hard to spot, choosing their usual table under one of the trees, and any other day Archie would never hesitate to stroll up to them and take a seat. Today though the sight made him stop and stare.
Betty and Jughead were not only sitting next to each other again but they were tangled up with each other too, like time and place were just an illusion to them that didn’t matter. His blonde so-called best friend was sitting with one leg over the other on the metallic bench, having her body turned to face him and only him, and his other so-called friend was straddling the bench so for Betty to sit between his legs and lie her back on the inside of his leg that was bended by the knee with his foot resting on the unoccupied space behind her. They were talking again about something – they always seemed to be talking, didn’t they ever run out of topics? – and being all touchy with each other, Betty occasionally caressing his arm or the side of his neck and Jughead having an arm draped affectionately over her lap, those grins never leaving their glowing faces. The PDA wasn’t heavy; Archie was just extremely exaggerating everything in his mind.
He felt uneasy and a pinch of jealousy blurring his vision. There wasn’t even two months ago that Betty had heartbreakingly confessed her attraction to him and just like that she had jumped to the first boy she found available? Archie couldn’t take it. Betty was supposed to be in love with him. Clearly, he thought, she was being confused.
“Hey there, Troy Bolton, what turned you into a statue?” Veronica’s characteristic voice brought him out of his reverie, coming to stand next to him with a similar tray of food.
“I’m just letting the happy couple be.” Archie replied with sarcasm that he, himself, didn’t even know he possessed.
“Uh, Kevin is there too.” Veronica knitted her eyebrows in confusion, the ginger doing the same because Kevin was indeed there all this time, sitting across them and busing himself with his sandwich and phone but for some odd reason Archie’s eyes hadn’t notice him up until the girl to his left pointed it out. “Plus, I don’t get your awkwardness around them. They are still B and Jug, why are you acting that way?” she turned to examine him, a tad annoyed at his behavior.
“Am I the only one skeptical about this whole thing?” Archie offered in annoyance too.
“Yes!” she exclaimed in exasperation. “I don’t know what kind of abandonment syndrome grew on you since last Friday but you better fix it cos this Archie Andrews is really starting to piss me off.” The suburban girl warned him with a stern look of her chocolate eyes and turned to walk away with confidence, joining her three friends that greeted her with cheerful heys.
Archie took a breath and did the same, forcing a smile on his lips and sitting next to Betty, even though Veronica was giving him the eye from across the table.
“So what are we talking about?” he asked, solemn focus on Betty and charming smile intact.
“Betty was about to go over the articles for the next issue of the paper.” Kevin spoke without taking his eyes off his phone, his sexting session with Joaquin way too interesting than anything going on around the table.
“Really? Go on. Anything interesting this week?” the redhead asked suddenly way too intrigued by journalism, Jughead dropping his other leg to rest to the ground too and raising an eyebrow at how weird Archie was behaving
The blonde huffed, a surprised chuckle leaving her pink lips. “You never even read the Blue & Gold.” Betty pointed out.
“That’s not true! I’ve read all about Chuck and that infamous book.” He replied cleverly, smiling again to her.
“Yes, because it was the very first issue and it had to do with your teammates, Archie!” Betty laughed; she knew her friend wasn’t interested in anything printed. “And I was going to go over the articles but that was before you guys came; Juggie and I will do that later.” she went on and smiled to her boyfriend next to her, the boy offering her a teasing salute.
“Yeah, I forgot there’s you and Juggie now.” Archie murmured, sifting uneasily on his seat and attracted weird glares from all the people around him, even Kevin.
Veronica cleared her throat in warning.
“Arch, is there something wrong?” Betty hesitated but asked, sharing a look with Veronica and then Jughead, who just shrugged not knowing either.
“Oh I don’t know you tell me.” He offered back with venom, snapping his head to face her and the girl gasped, leaning a tad backward towards Jughead in surprise.
“Dude, if you’re pissed off or something–” Jughead interfered in a smooth tone, closing his arm a tad more protectively around Betty, but with a look that could turn defensive in a second but his friend cut him off.
“Leave it, Jug.” Archie stoop up abruptly and gathered his things. “Enjoy your lunch.” And with that he was gone, leaving the four teens in a state of shock.
This went on for the rest of the week, Archie avoiding everyone and getting frustrated beyond his mind whenever the happy couple crossed paths with him. He hated seeing them speaking all hush-hush in the school corridor, doing homework in the students’ lounge together, Jughead being at almost all cheerleading/baseball practices sitting further up the bleachers and writing his novel, once in a while dropping his eyes at her and making her offer him her dashing smile, sitting at Pop’s with a milkshake and a burger each laughing uncontrollably at something Jughead was saying, walking hand in hand to Betty’s house for him to drop her off, Betty coming over to Archie’s house to help him settle in the newly rebuild former garage, going to movie dates, texting each other romantic and even some saucy things – Archie was still sitting behind Betty in geometry class so he had a front row seat when her phone vibrated and a text from ‘Juggie <3’ lightened up the screen, him letting her know how good her legs looked with the skirt she had chosen to wear that day. Archie’s knuckles had turned white over his pen and he had even asked to be excused to the bathroom.
The final straw came on Saturday night though, when Fred Andrews arrived home finding a brooding Archie – his signature expression those days – sprawled on the couch and mindlessly changing the channels on TV.
“Do Jug and Betty have a thing or something?” his dad asked with a foxy smile, after their usual chit chat about their day, filling plates with some take out from Pop’s.
Archie internally groaned, dragging his feet further inside the kitchen. “I guess you can call it that. Who did you hear from?” he popped some fries in his mouth, uninterested.
“I didn’t.” the man shook his head, bringing over two glasses of water. “I was unlocking the door when Betty snuck in Jug’s pad with an oversized bag from Pop’s.” he informed him shaking his head in amusement, before taking a sip from his water. “I’ve seen her sneak in a handful of other nights too.”
“Really?!” Archie widened his eyes, feeling his anger starting to boil. Betty and Jughead doing whatever they were doing meters away from him? It was impossible to wrap his mind around the idea. “No, it can’t be!” he refused to even think about it.
“Oh, you can stop covering up for them.” Fred laughed. “I’m not gonna say anything if that’s what you two boys are afraid. I’m only concerted about poor Jug and Alice Cooper. Otherwise, I find them quite the fit for each other.” He smiled, taking a bite of his steak.
Archie just huffed, placing his fork with sound on his plate. “Whatever, dad.” The teen just threw annoyed and then kept silent for the rest of their dinner, nervously playing around with his food and feeling more and more frustrated as the hour went by and he wasn’t seeing any sign of Betty leaving the garage any time soon.
It was somewhere around ten when he had enough and he decided that now was the time, he didn’t care if he would interrupt something, things were going to come clean between them right here and right now. Passing by his dad dazing on by the TV in the living room, Archie stormed outside and with quick, angry steps approached the garage at the side of the house. A dim light could be seen from the small window and faded noises could be heard as the redhead came to a stop at the entrance, mentally preparing himself for what he was about to witness. Taking a deep breath and pushing the door lightly, not having yet a change to put a proper lock meaning it was easily accessible to anyone, Archie spied inside from the small crack, letting a sigh of relief upon seeing the couple not in any compromising position that would definitely make him see blood but lounging at the small black couch in front of Jughead’s bed engrossed in what seemed like to be a movie. Jughead was sitting comfortably with his arm draped behind her on the couch and his head resting back and titled to the side, barely touching the top of hers, and Betty was glued next to him with her slender legs laid on her boyfriend’s lap, a thin beige blanket messily thrown over them. Archie could see one of Jughead’s hands resting on her thigh in affection, occasionally rubbing up and down lightly while Betty kept playing absentmindedly with the buttons of his plaid shirt over his black t-shirt.
There was this tug of jealousy again on his chest, this time more severe than ever before. He could have been him in Jughead’s place, having Betty on his lap and having her sweet strawberry perfume invade his senses. At that moment he envied Jughead Jones with every piece of his heart. He stood like that for a couple of minutes contemplating his move. But once he saw him readjusting himself to wrap his arms tightly around her waist, whispering something in her ear that made her grin and blush, blush, before him starting leaving some kisses on her neck that had her eyes closing in pleasure, Archie couldn’t hold himself back anymore. He stormed inside the small room, making both teens flush red and jump up immediately, getting untangled from each other.
“Archie? What are you doing here?” Jughead took it upon himself to speak up, sitting more straight on the couch, Betty’s legs dropping from his lap to rest on one of his thighs.
“I live here if you haven’t noticed.” Was the redhead’s mean comeback, causing the two teens across him to look at him surprised and speechless.
Betty broke the tense silence. “We’re watching a movie, if you wanna join.” She said as cheerfully as she could manage but her smile faded upon seeing her friend’s reaction.
“No, Betty, I’m not here to hang out. I’m here to tell you that this has to stop!” he demanded, voice going an octave higher.
“And what are you exactly, Archie, that have the right to tell us what we can and can’t do?” Jughead replied in a stern voice too, fed up with Archie’s behavior all these days, and Betty could feel him getting more and more defensive by the minute, placing a palm on his chest to signalize him to take it easy.
“The person that gave you a home, in case you forgot.” The other boy threw to his face, Jughead shaking his head and letting a sad chuckle of disbelief.
Betty just gasped with no sound, not quite recognizing the boy she called her longtime best friend.
“Apologize to him.” The blonde demanded softly, both boys turning their attention to her.
“I have to apologize?” Archie spat, poking his pointer to his chest.
“Yes, you do!” she stood up, determined. “You walk around all week now being weird and offensive and now this?” she was fed up too even though she kept brushing it off all week in front of Jughead in fear of the two boys comforting each other.
“Stay out of this, Betty.” Archie warned her with a look and she huffed, throwing her arms in the air in exasperation and turning her back at him.
Jughead’s knee started to bounce, getting really difficult to control his anger at this point but he was trying for her sake. “What is your problem, Archie? For real now.” he narrowed his eyes up at him.
“You, Jughead, that’s my problem!” he yelled, causing Betty to snap back around to face him with anger. “Can you even respect anything in your life? You know, my dad sleeps a few meters away but you still don’t even care, do you? I guess Reggie was right; all this writing crap does help you get laid.” The redhead spit with venom, the atmosphere changing in an instant in the small room.
Jughead scoffed, his hands trembling from anger. “I never thought you’d be that much of an asshole.” And with that he stormed to his feet, eyes shining from anger and threw himself forward to attack him, Archie doing the same.
Betty was quick, stepping in front of her boyfriend. “You! Out!” she commanded him sternly.
Jughead looked down at her, still blinded from rage. “He gets to speak like that about you and I’m the one you kick out?!” he semi yelled because really he didn’t care even for a bit what Archie or any other asshole thought about him. He only cared for Betty and the fact that his so-called friend was implying that she was an easy fuck was making his mind explode from rage.
“I swear to God, Jughead, if you don’t walk away right now, I’m dragging you out myself.” Betty held her ground, eyes determined upon his stormy ones and he saw him look down with a pained frown before giving her some sad vigorous nods and snatching his jacket, passing by Archie who gave him a pleased, I-just-won grin before Jughead got lost into the night.
There were some moments of silence with the two of them just trying to calm down.
“Betty, I…” Archie started but once she raised her eyes, her expression made him stop.
“You what, Archie?” she spoke, her voice colored with disappointment. “Do you even know what you are doing right now?”
He shook his head, licking his lips. “Listen, I’ve been thinking lately. Ever since you and… him said you were a couple, I finally understood Betty; I came to my senses for real this time.”
“And what did you understand exactly?” she flinched upset, closing her arms over her chest.
“That you are the one for me.” Archie admitted and let a breathing chuckle.
“Right…” Betty nodded, not even feeling a single thing regarding that statement. Just pure disappointment for the guy in front of her that stooped so low.
The boy eyed her, not quite believing her reaction. “I know you feel bad right now, you don’t know how to say this to Jughead, but he will understand, he always knew, you just got confused—” he went on and on, making plans and taking things for granted like he always did.
“Confused?” Betty cut him off. “No, Archie, I’m not at all confused right now. I might have been in the past but all is crystal clear now.” she scoffed, not quite believing how oblivious she was some months ago.
“Betty…” he chuckled in disbelief. “You said you liked me not long ago. And I’m here telling you that I like you back. I want us to try.” He continued desperately.
“That’s where you got it all wrong; where I got it all wrong.” Betty focused her eyes on his. “I never liked you, Archie.” She admitted with a shrug and saw the boy gasp in front of her. “Jughead was always the one I wanted.” She smiled at that.
“It-It can’t be.” Archie refused, chuckling again uneasily. “Betty, we were right there outside your house when you demanded an answer from me, an answer I couldn’t give you then, but I can now… please, give us a change, I know you’re still in love with me…” he said in a lower voice, coming closer to her and placing his hands on her arms.
“No.” Betty squirmed away from his touch, not feeling even the slightest of affection. “I always felt things for Jughead, things that I couldn’t quite understand, but then he shut everyone out and disappeared and you came along, so I got myself distracted. But you and I would have never lasted, Archie… Because sooner or later, I’d definitely find my way to Jughead.” she confessed and her heart ached at the thought of the dark haired boy with the sad eyes, at the thought that she might have missed him if Archie’s answer had been different that night, that she might have missed that feeling inside her chest that compared to nothing she ever felt before for anyone.
“Is that your final answer?” Archie let a heavy sigh, turning his defeated frown to the floor, where he thought she wouldn’t see it.
“Yes.” Betty replied without missing a beat and in all certainty. “And one last thing; you’d better lose those jackass ways they brainwash you with in those locker rooms. Not that there’s any of your business but we never did anything in here that would make you or your dad feel uncomfortable in your own house. The way you implied that and talked to Jughead tonight was unacceptable.” She saw him dropping his head more to the ground in shame and felt a tad of relief at that, seeing that some bits and pieces of the Archie she got to call her best friend were still there. “Start planning your apology.” She advised and walked softly around, gathering her cardigan and putting on her sneakers before heading to the door.
“I’m sorry, Archie… I’m not the Betty you got used to always have around anymore.” And with that she was gone too, leaving the redheaded boy behind, regretting all the choices he had made in his short lived life.
It didn’t take long for her to find him; after all she knew by now all his secrets and hiding spots. If he was just anxious or a tad annoyed he would be writing at Pop’s, if he was upset he would be spending time in the treehouse and if he was borderline angry he would be on the small hill behind the now completely demolished drive-in.
Tonight was one of those very rare code-red nights.
She found him sitting on top of the back of the single bench right in front of the small opening. The view was amazing from up there, the lights of the whole town to his feet, plus the still lingering aura of the place he loved the most. Jughead loved that bench and the freedom it offered him; it always calmed him.
Dead leaves and small branches cracked under her sneakers with every step she took but he just sat there unfazed, looking straight ahead. He could hear somebody approaching and he knew it was her but he didn’t want to face reality just yet, he wasn’t ready for the ending credits to roll.
“Hey there stranger.” Her sweet greeting disrupted the silence of night sky and he watched with the corner of his eyes as she rounded the corner and took a seat next to him.
A couple of minutes passed, both of them not knowing how to start.
“You can just say it. I’ll understand.” Jughead tried to be brave once again in his life, his voice steady thanks to all the practice he had done talking with his dad and faking indifference, even though his heart was aching every time.
Betty just turned to look at his profile, jaw clenched as she immediately understood where he was going with it.
“And what am I about to say exactly?” she pronounced the words with difficulty.
“Let’s not beat around the bush, Bets…” he spoke like he was tired, eyes dropping to stare at his bended knees.
“No, say it. Say what I’m about to say since you know me that well!” she challenged with that tone of voice that always made him shrink to a smaller size.
He sighed; he had to get it over with. “I get it, you and Archie go along way and now that he changed his mind…”
Betty laughed with no humor at all, pushing herself to stand up. “Great, Jughead are you done, alright? Do you predict other stuff too? Like-like can you warn me about Cheryl’s behavior tomorrow morning at practice or-or, yeah, Veronica got a text from her ex from New York what are his intentions huh? Cos really if you have such a talent it shouldn’t go to waste, let’s make a good use out of it!” she kept rambling in high speed, her voice growing impatient and louder and her hand gestures expressing the frustration her little theatricals were hiding.
“Betty, that’s not the time for you to joke around.” Jughead replied in all seriousness, raising an eyebrow indicating that he wouldn’t handle any of her sass right now.
“Don’t Betty me! If you have something to say, say it to my face!” she demanded angrily.
“Archie won! What else am I supposed to say?” he yelled and stormed to his feet too, his anger crashing like a lightening bold between them.
“Love is not a victory match, Jughead!” Betty spat back at the top of her lungs, hands bawling in fists and green eyes in the verge of angry tears. “And I’m not a prize to be won!”
“I never said that…”
“Oh you just did!” she interrupted him with venom in her voice. “You think that I’m this shallow girl that would have you as a rebound, as just a random body to keep the space in her bed warm until some prince charming would finally come to swipe her off her feet!” she was full on screaming now.
“You told me to step away!” Jughead’s voice was stern and loud, hurt that she had kicked him out, the boy having thought at that moment that her choice was obvious.
“Because I wanted to protect you, you jackass!” Betty screamed, delivering a hard push on his chest in utter frustration, only for him to bounce back at her in reflex and anger, their faces inches apart and eyes connected in a stare off. “Because if you stayed in there you would have done things you’d regret later. And because that was my place to clear things up with Archie, not yours.”
“I would never regret standing up for you.” Jughead stated in a softer voice but still full of determination.
Betty scoffed, curling her arms over her chest and turning to look straight ahead. “You better regret doubting me.” She was angry at him that even for a moment he thought he was just a second choice.
There was silence again. Jughead dropped his head to the ground and sighed. “It doesn’t help being in Archie’s shadow all my life. I am in love with you Betty since I can remember myself. But you were blind and all you ever saw was Archie.” He confessed, practically stripping naked regarding all his emotions about her.
The blonde slowly turned to look at him, not quiet believing her ears. “Who’s the blind one now?” she chuckled lightly and Jughead raised his eyes hesitantly at her. “My eyes were always on you; I didn’t know it back then but after this time we spent together I finally understood that everything was always about you. Not Archie not anyone else. You; Forsythe Pendleton Jones III.” Betty closed her eyes and smiled at his silly name and the silly boy that didn’t know how much it meant for her.
It had been years since Jughead had heard his full name. He hated that name. And he hated that stunning blonde that made him love it at that very second. So he did what his gut told him too.
Betty suddenly felt a rush of air and then she was out of this reality as his lips danced over hers, hungrily and with such ferocity that she never experienced by him before. They had their fair share of passionate make out sessions but this was something else, something needy and primal, something that people experience in train stations or hospital rooms where the need to stay connected becomes vital and the mind gets inflamed. Betty could feel his palms holding her face for dear life and she clung onto his waist, her knuckles turning white from the strong hold of her fingers on his jacket. His tongue was deliciously devouring every inch of her mouth and she brought hers to do the same, both of them moaning into the kiss and attacking each other more vigorously with bites and nibbles and rolling of their bodies against each other.
“If half of the things you just said are true, I can die a happy man even right now.” He breathed against her lips once they pulled back for much needed oxygen, rubbing his forehead over hers in despair.
“They are all true, you stubborn dork.” She breathed back, biting her down lip before tugging at his with her teeth, making him blindly lean forward for more. “And, no, you are not allowed to die not now not ever.” He smirked lightly at that, Betty having missed it already.
“I’m sorry I doubted you.” He whispered, pulling back to look her directly in her eyes.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you.” She hugged his waist, Jughead closing his arms around her neck, pecking the top of her head. They stayed like that for a while before she spoke again, voice muffled against his chest. “That was our very first official fight.” Betty pointed out.
“I hated it. Please let’s promise not to do that again.” He flinched adorably and she raised herself on her tiptoes to give him a peck.
“Yeah, let’s do that.” She agreed and she raised her hand, waiting a hi-five, Jughead shaking his head in amusement and chuckling but in the end hi-fiving her anyway, before curling his arm over her shoulders.
“I’m terribly in love with you, don’t you ever forget that.” Betty curled to his side and admitted truthfully, caressing his cheek.
“How can I forget the air that I breathe?” he told her like the amazing writer he was and Betty melted in an instant, Jughead leaning down to kiss her, pouring inside the kiss a million more words he had yet to say.
