Gilles-Antoine Demarteau (1750 - 1802) After Edmé Bouchardon (1698 - 1762)
Head of a Venerable Man
To prevent any misunderstanding, Gilles-Antoine Demarteau (1750 - 1802) was Gilles Demarteau's (1722 - 1776) nephew.
He became an engraver and took over his uncle's workshop.

The Cat’s Repast
Origin: France, 1778 or 1779. Description: A fine young woman gives her fluffy white cat a meal of milk in this hand-colored engraving on ivory laid paper. The artist, Gilles Antoine Demarteau (the Younger), is less well-known than the uncle who he was named after and whose workshop he would eventually take over. Modeled after the work of Jean-Baptiste Huet. Maintained by the Art Institute of Chicago, but not on display. (

Salon Demarteau -  Musée Carnavalet, Paris
Gilles Demarteau, engraver to the King of France, commissioned the artists Jean-Honoré Fragonard, François Boucher and Jean-Baptiste Huet to paint these murals of an idealized landscape for the salon of his house on the Ile de la Cité. The panels were completed between 1765 and 1770. When the house was being demolished, the panels were moved to the Musée Carnavalet.
