Gays against guns in Vienna @gaysagainstguns687
youtube
The sticker features the logo of "Gays Against Guns" (GAG), an organization advocating for gun control and addressing gun violence in the United States. The group focuses on promoting awareness about the dangers of gun culture and fighting for legislative change to reduce gun-related harm. Their work often includes direct action, public demonstrations, and advocacy for stricter gun laws.
Finding such a sticker in Vienna might indicate solidarity with international movements or the spread of their message beyond U.S. borders. Vienna, being a progressive and LGBTQ-friendly city, often hosts diverse voices and campaigns like this. The sticker could be part of a broader effort to raise awareness about gun violence and gun control on a global scale, particularly among tourists or expatriates.
Two weeks after the June 2016 attack, a group of activists unveiled a large banner created by Gilbert Baker, the designer of the rainbow flag, reading "Gays Against Guns" as they led the New York City LGBT Pride March. Their contingent included 750 marchers, along with 49 individuals dressed in white veils to represent the victims of gun violence. Along the 5th Avenue route, they staged die-ins and introduced their “Human Beings” concept—activists in white attire and veils symbolizing those lost to gun violence. Another large banner carried during the march declared, "Republican Hate Kills."
Within two months, the group had grown to include over 300 members in New York City and had established chapters in nine other U.S. cities. Their activism targeted gun manufacturers like Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger & Co., the two largest gun companies in the country, as well as gun lobbyists, shareholders, and corporate sponsors. In an October 2017 op-ed for Teen Vogue, GAG's social media director argued that gun violence is a disease that can be treated and ultimately cured.

Video
tumblr
Here´s the video my Skittles portrait of Gilbert Baker made in Gish Fest, in video!
My first time recording a "traditional" process (not sure if painting with skittles can be a traditional painting)!
So, forgive me for bad camera positions!
For everyone who asked about how to “paint” with such a strange “ink', as you can see, I´m not using a lot of water (or the colors will fade, too much diluted). I made this in my first time using SKittles painting in last Gish and I discovered how the colors fade too much if you just soak the skittles in water.
Instead, I put some drops in a group of skittles on ice molds (and  used this “ink” to paint some layers, still not TOO colorful, as a base).
And the trick to have really bright colors, a simple wet brush and brushstroking one skittle to take, directly, his color.

Custom sewn rainbow flag. 🏳️‍🌈 In March 2017, Gilbert Baker created a 9-stripe version of his original 1977 flag, with lavender, pink, turquoise and indigo stripes along with the red, orange, yellow, green and violet. According to Baker, the lavender stripe symbolizes diversity. 🌈 ——————————— www.seattleflagmakers.com ——————————— #seattleflagmakers #flags #rainbowflag #rainbowflags #gilbertbaker #gilbertbaker🏳️‍🌈 #diversity https://www.instagram.com/p/By5qS39g5aq/?igshid=1fwmbj8jh5klp

Nike BETRUE Track Spike
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to NIKE
This year, South African middle-distance runner Caster Semenya returns to the Nike Prefontaine Classic wearing a special Nike BETRUE spike for her 800-meter competition. The elite middle-distance runner ties up the technicolor spike one year after she set a U.S. all-comers record in the event (In fact, her only races on U.S. soil have been Pre Classic 800s). Here are four details to know about the spike ahead of Semenya’s run:
1.    It was inspired by this season’s Nike BETRUE collection
Semenya was one of the athlete ambassadors for the collection and starred in the “Nobody Wins Alone” Nike film along with basketball players Sue Bird, skateboarder Elissa Steamer and others.
2.    It’s the first BETRUE track spike created by Nike
This month, Nike BETRUE colorways appeared across the sporting world for both elite and everyday athletes; the track spike joins Nike basketball BETRUE PEs that appeared on WNBA courts in June as well as the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo BETRUE.
3.    The Pride flag color spectrum appears on more than just the upper
The pattern of eight-colored stripes also shows up on the outsole Swoosh and the aglets. Nike created the aesthetic for this season's BETRUE collection by directly partnering with the Gilbert Baker Estate.
4.    It’s appearing in the Bay Area on an important anniversary
The Pre Classic takes place in the Bay Area 40 years after Gilbert Baker’s Pride flag first debuted in San Francisco.

For the last #newreleasetuesday of June and the last Tuesday of #pride month, we’re sharing @chireviewpress #RainbowWarrior the autobiography published posthumously this June about an icon of the #lgbtq rights movement and the creator of the #rainbowflag Gilbert Baker. 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍🌈 #Repost @johnnie_cakes ・・・ How did the rainbow become one of the most recognizable symbols of the LGBT community, and why the rainbow? Did you know the first flag had 8 stripes, and that each stripe has a meaning? #RainbowWarrior is the autobiography of Gilbert Baker, the creator of the flag. Baker’s personality flies off these pages. I’m fascinated by the differences in the east and west coast factions of the gay rights movement and he definitely touches on it. Baker also discusses commercialization of the flag and Pride itself. This should be required reading for every queer, handed to them when they buy their first rainbow anything. 🌈🌺⛑👘👑🧤👗🧢☂️🏳️‍🌈 #lgbtreads #pridemonth #pridemonth2019 #currentlyreading #bookstagram #gayinstagram #pridemonthreads #gayhouston #gayreader #gilbertbaker #lgbthistorymonth #rainbowwarriors #rainbowflag #rainbowshoes #loveislove #gayhistory #bebold #bookish #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BzIi6IpgiiU/?igshid=8ita68mutto2

“The rainbow is a part of nature, and you have to be in the right place to see it. It's beautiful, all of the colors, even the colors you can't see. That really fit us as a people because we are all of the colors. Our sexuality is all of the colors. We are all the genders, races, and ages.”

❤️🌈 #heidelberg #queer #pride #flag #🌈 #gaypride #germany #church #iglesia #arcoiris #architecture #arquitectura #architektur #arquitetura #jesuits #inclusion #gilbertbaker #bandera #orgullo #lgbtq🌈 #lgbtq #travelphotography #travel (en Jesuitenkirche (Heidelberg)) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChScT1bI-sG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Number 18 on my Queer Icons Pride Project is Activist Gilbert Baker Born June 2, 1951 Gilbert Baker was an artist, designer and activist. His most notable work is the pride flag. He along with Lynn Segerblom and James McNamara helped create one of the most iconic symbols of the queer community. Baker served in the US Army in the early 70s, stationed as a medic in San Francisco during the beginning of the gay movement and lived openly as a gay man. After being honorably discharged he learned to sew by fellow activist Mary Dunn, he used these skills to create banners promoting gay rights and speaking out against the war. Baker created the first pride flag with a collective in 1978. Now the colors of the original flag consisted of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, teal, indigo, and violet, but eventually due to cost the pink and teal stripes were removed. Volunteers helped Baker hand dye and stitch the original two flags together. These flags measured around 30 by 60 feet. Gilbert Baker influences me by his commitment to speak out and protest for the rights that I have today. He also inspires me as an artist, who knew that such a thing as eight stripes of color sewn together could hold so much power. @gilbert_baker_foundation #gilbertbaker #lynnsegerblom #jamesmcnamara #prideflag #pride #rainbow #queer #gay #transgender #lesbian #bisexual #drawing #redsketch #prismacolor #pride2022 #prideproject #loveislove #strength #queerartist (at Turlock, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce8i-tSLNsH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
