rosemarine is as much of a victim as gilbert is, a more outright one i'd say. the way auguste threatens gilbert (a kid who has been targeted by him and groomed for his entire life) is VERY different to the way he threatens rosemarine (an adult, 18 at the beginning, i'd say around 21 AT MOST by the time kazeki ends. auguste got a proper hold of him at 15, before that he was only odd towards rose)
auguste establishes the power dynamics between those two in very different ways, for instance he uses his "love" towards gilbert as a double edged sword. if he's not "loving" him gilbert perishes and is kept trapped because it makes him crave the toxicity even more. that's why serge's presence was so dangerous, because teaching gilbert safety meant he's properly going to realize "this is wrong, this needs to stop" ... which he already knew, he said it himself ("do you think i let you fuck me because i wanted to? i did it because i didn't have other options") but he doesn't know how to stop it, so he lets it happen and romanticizes the situation, he knows and he knew from day 1 that auguste was a dangerous man, but he clung onto him because he was all he had.
meanwhile, rosemarine gets a more threatening version of this treatment. auguste speaks to him as an equal (almost) when he's not mad, but when he is he yells and lashes out, and threatens to get close, which he knows rosemarine hates (unlike gilbert who is the complete opposite) and uses it against him.
Auguste isn't smart (HELL a lot of people knew about his awful treatment towards gilbert when gilbert was a CHILD, but they never did anything to stop it), he literally just goes through life doing whatever the hell he wants and hurting whoever prevents him from reaching whatever goal he has, he doesn't hide it, he doesn't pretend to be a good person, he doesn't do shit he just goes up to the principal and goes "yeah let gilbert do whatever i'll pay you man", he goes up to rose and goes "don't intervene in the gilbert issue, just make sure he doesn't die or something idk", he kisses gilbert on school grounds, he offers himself as a future husband for angeline (11 by the time she appears again, serge is 14-15)
he does WHATEVER he wants WHEREVER he wants, he doesn't gaf, he's not smart, he isolates gilbert and keeps him in an environment that equally validates his own treatment. usually in stories about child abuse someone (an adult) knows and tries to stop it, sometimes they succeed, sometimes they don't, but in kazeki EVERYONE LETS THINGS HAPPEN. and the cycle continues.
abuse culture thrives in silence (auguste's peers), bystander effect (everyone in laconblade), enablers (rosemarine, the principal) and refusing to break the cycle despite being scared (auguste abuses rose → rose enables gilbert's abuse rather than speaking up against auguste → gilbert assaults carl ... carl doesn't continue this cycle, but indirectly contributes to everything by being a bystandar ... HOWEVER he cannot be 100% blamed since he's a child. he's scared, he blames himself, he doesn't want to tell anyone because of His Own Can Of Worms -which someone else with a more religious background could probably explain better-)
gilbert is at the bottom of the chain, and he has normalized this abusive behavior SO much that he doesn't really see it as something inherently bad. to him, this is another thing people do, he has never known normalcy, so when he assaults carl to "assert dominance" over him and taunts him, he's just repeating the things people did/do to him.
it's kinda like when children exposed to violence in the home (ANY sort of violence, whether it's directed to them -csa, physical abuse, emotional abuse- or indirect -seeing a parent get abused-) play with toys violently and reenact their trauma through play (there's a proper term for this, i currently can't remember, but it's used in play therapy to try and decipher what's up with a child too young to voice their worries and woes!)
anyway uhm
this is just word vomit, sorry.

3.72 The ambassador
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On our way to the Arboretum, I highlighted a few noteworthy features of the neighborhood, including a shameless plug for my yoga classes at the Celebration Center. Clear skies and warm sun made it the perfect day for this tour. Though, there was never a wrong time to visit San Sequoia. Every day was perfect.
"This is Gilbert Gardens," I said, vaguely gesturing around us. "It's my favorite place in San Sequoia because it has so much to do for all ages."
"I can't get over this weather. Is it always this nice?"
"Amazing, right? That's one of the best parts about San Sequoia."
The warm rays beamed down on us while a cool breeze whisked back and forth, ensuring we remained comfortable. Dub glanced around, shaking his head in disbelief at the gorgeous weather.
"Henford is usually covered in snow right about now," he said with a hint of snark.
Tumblr media
I chuckled at a memory that popped into my head.
"I've seen snow exactly twice in my life. It doesn't snow much in Willow Creek. That's where I've spent the most time."
"I think snow is overrated," Dub huffed, waving dismissively again.
"You might be right. I mean, it's super cold...you can't see if it's too thick...and you have to clean it up!"
He slapped my arm.
"See? I knew we were in sync."
"Playing in it looks fun, though."
"That's overrated too! I don't like my hands being cold. There's no fun in that!"
He was hilarious and I know he wasn't trying to be, but the fake outrage amused me.
"I might have to agree with you there," I said.
We got halfway around the lake before I realized I hadn't shown him much. I made a terrible tour guide, but I think we both enjoyed the company more; I know I did.
"I teach at that spa over there sometimes," I said.
"What do you teach?"
Tumblr media
"Yoga. I also lead guided meditations."
"So, yoga videos and classes? You must really love it."
"I do."
His eyes squinted a bit, like he was processing my words or something. I hadn't said anything too deep. Was he one of those yogi haters?
"A good friend of mine just told me she's into it too," he said. "She says it's for therapeutic reasons."
"Good for her. I think everyone should be into yoga."
"Why do you say that?"
"It's great therapy. I think everyone should learn healthier ways to deal with stress. Sims turn to so many self-destructive ways of dealing with their problems, only to make it worse. Having a healthy body leads to a healthy mind."
"I'm sure Maia would agree. She made me promise to try it with her."
"I hope you do."
I hadn't heard of many men who had platonic relationships with women. Even I had some sort of physical attraction and a bit of lust for my female friends. What was his relationship with this friend?
"So...Maia, huh?"
Tumblr media
"Yeah, she's my friend I mentioned."
"I see... Well, I'm glad you'll try it. I think you'll find it helps a lot.
He didn't catch it that time, but I wouldn't let him miss it the next time, and there would be a next time. I was sure of it.
"Over there, you have the splash park. Mostly kids hang out there. We can swim in this lake."
"It's huge!"
"Tell me about it. My dad and I jogged around it once. I think I nearly killed him. There's all kinds of trails around here, but this is my favorite."
As we approached the trailhead, Dub looked around in awe, exactly like I did the first time I visited. The garden was what made it exceptionally beautiful. The way they expertly arranged the flowers and creatively teased the topiaries, it truly was a work of art.
"Woooow. I never would have seen all this back here."
"They call it the Arboretum. You ready to go?"
"Always."
Tumblr media
We stretched, and I recommended we take it easy and pace ourselves, but Mr. Funny Man had other ideas. Good thing I was also athletic. I accepted the challenge, but of course, I had to flex on him a few times.
I asked about his family. The fact that he was the oldest of three boys amazed me. With no brotherly figure or close friends in my life, I found it difficult to imagine the dynamics of such a relationship. Would I enjoy little brothers? Would they annoy me? Maybe both because little sisters could be fun and annoying. Dub and his brothers grew up on a farm, and he hated it. Memories of the sights and smells of cleaning out chicken coops and milking cows disgusted him all over again. I would never laugh at anyone's pain, but he was so easily grossed out. I almost wanted to try it to see if it was really that bad.
Tumblr media
Naturally, he returned the same questions, and I told him about our family dynamics and how my sister and I bounced between Willow Creek and Evergreen Harbor our entire childhood. I kept it casual and didn't say anything emotional, but he remained silent. Maybe he was contemplating my situation just like I was considering farm life with a bunch of brothers.
We took a few breaks, and he guzzled his water as if he were on fire. I shook my head, secretly laughing at him for dashing off like it was a race. Eventually we arrived back at our starting point, winded but feeling like a million simoleons.
Tumblr media
"That was a good run," he said. "Maybe the longest I've done so far."
"Yeah, before I ran around the lake it was my longest too."
"And it was very scenic, like you said."
"You should see it in the summer! It's amazing."
I could tell by how golden the sky was, and the emptiness in my stomach, dinnertime was near. I had another idea I hoped he'd be keen on.
"I'm usually having dinner about now. If you have more time, you wanna go to the best restaurant in San Sequoia?"
"Yeah! Uhh, actually, let me check with Maia first."
See? I knew he'd bring her up again. This dude was in love and didn't even know it, and it was so fun to watch. Even the way he said her name had hearts all over it.
"Of course. I wouldn't want to get you in trouble or anything," I said in a cheeky way.
"Whatever, man!"
He may have sounded offended, but I did not forget that grin. One way or another, I'd get their story out of him. Ugh...I was unquestionably my mother's child.

Gilbert Baker
Tumblr media
Gilbert Baker was born in 1951 and lived until 2017. Though he is best known for his pride flag, he was an activist in many different ways, such as working towards the legalization of marijuana in California. He worked on other art queer art projects, such as silkscreen posters, and had an art exhibit, which was delayed in its opening due to threats, and later had to be displayed in a different venue.
In 2012, Gilbert Baker had a stroke, and despite pessimistic prognoses from the doctors, he continued to work at physical therapy, and even regained the ability to sew. In 2017, the year that Baker died, he created an art collection of holocaust outfits with pink triangles on them, and continued to work on queer and activist art until his death.
On the creation of the rainbow flag, Baker said “As we carried it down the street... A bizarre barrage of glittering coins flew all around us, some splashing onto the street. Drag queens approached and spread flowers in front of our footsteps. All of these people understood what we had worked so hard to create and what it was all about. We laughed until we cried.”

You know I must ask after The Terror, but I also must ask after Anne with an E as well
Ok so, for the Terror, you are assuming I know people's name. I've only seen it like 3 times, and there are soooo many cold boys
Favourite character: Neptune Goodsir
Funniest character: Crozier. Great sarcastic boy.
Best-looking character:... Hickey.
3 favourite ships: Well obviously the most cannon actual shipped that happened in the show for real, Crozier and Lady Terror. Second and third are Goodsir/Silna and Hickey/Tunbak
Least favourite character: Sir John the idiot
Least favourite ship: I dunno, I'm sure people ship Crozier and Hickey, so that.
Reason why I watch it: The memes
Why I started watching it: Forced by one @daincrediblegg (shush I love you)
Anne with an E
Here comes some major indecisiveness
Favourite character: Anne. I adore that girl, and I am constantly tempted to make her a child f/o
Funniest character: Oh, that would be a tie between Ruby and Matthew. Runy is so out of touch with the real world, it's precious but also kind of funny. And Matthew is just a master of comedic timing and physical humor some how.
Best-looking character: Hm, either Diana or Ka'kwet. They're both just such lovely girls.
3 favourite ships: Anne/Gilbert, Anne/Diana, Bash/Mary, Mr. Tracey/Therapy
Least favourite character: Probably Mr. Tracey. Also Cole's parents
Least favourite ship: Diana/Jerry (Though I wish Dianna had been allowed to let loose and see the world from his perspective and that maybe they would have maybe been okay)
Reason why I watch it: Dude it's just so good! A great Feel Good show.
Why I started watching it: Saw people talking about it and Netflix reccomend it based off my watching. So glad I gave it a go.

https://download-accl.zoho.com/webdownload?x-service=CLIQ&event-id=a_17202823911317298519330280_1_486505904&x-cli-msg=%7B%22thumbnail%22%3Atrue%7D

Understanding Chronic Jaundice
What Is Chronic Jaundice?
Chronic jaundice is a prolonged condition where the skin, whites of the eyes, and mucous membranes turn yellow due to high bilirubin levels in the blood. This condition often stems from underlying liver dysfunction, bile duct blockages, or other systemic health issues. Without proper monitoring, it can lead to severe complications.
Common Causes of Chronic Jaundice
Liver Diseases: Conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or fatty liver disease.
Gallbladder Issues: Stones or infections that obstruct bile flow.
Blood Disorders: Such as hemolytic anemia, leading to excessive breakdown of red blood cells.
Alcohol Abuse: Prolonged consumption of alcohol can severely impact liver function.
Genetic Disorders: Rare conditions like Gilbert’s syndrome or Crigler-Najjar syndrome.
Symptoms to Watch Out For
Persistent yellowing of the skin and eyes.
Dark urine and pale stools.
Itchy skin.
Fatigue and weakness.
Swelling in the abdomen or legs.
Unintended weight loss.
Importance of Regular Monitoring
Chronic jaundice requires ongoing attention to prevent further damage. Monitoring ensures that:
Progression Is Tracked: Helps assess how the condition is evolving.
Underlying Causes Are Managed: Identifies and addresses root causes.
Complications Are Prevented: Such as liver failure or bile duct infections.
Treatment Effectiveness Is Measured: Ensures the prescribed plan is working.

Key Steps in Managing Chronic Jaundice
Accurate Diagnosis Identifying the root cause is the first step toward effective management.
Lifestyle Modifications Patients are encouraged to adopt healthier habits, such as reducing alcohol intake, avoiding fatty foods, and incorporating liver-friendly diets.
Medications Certain medications may be prescribed to manage underlying issues like hepatitis or reduce bile production blockages.
Advanced Therapies In severe cases, options like bile duct stenting or liver transplantation may be considered.
Points to Remember for Effective Management
Essential Tips for Chronic Jaundice Monitoring

Tips from Dr. Karen Hawk for Coping with OCD Daily
Living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be challenging and often overwhelming. While seeking professional help is essential, incorporating daily coping strategies can significantly improve your quality of life. In Gilbert, Arizona, Dr. Karen Hawk specializes in helping individuals manage OCD through a combination of therapy and practical coping techniques. In this article, we’ll explore effective tips that can help you cope with OCD daily.
Understanding OCD
OCD is characterized by persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that individuals feel compelled to perform. The cycle of obsessions and compulsions can lead to anxiety, distress, and disruption of daily activities. Understanding this cycle is the first step in managing it.
The Cycle of OCD
Obsessions: Intrusive thoughts that cause anxiety.
Anxiety: The discomfort arising from these thoughts.
Compulsions: Behaviors performed to alleviate anxiety.
Temporary Relief: Compulsions provide short-term relief, reinforcing the cycle.
Recognizing this cycle can help you identify when you’re caught in it and empower you to take steps to break free.
Daily Coping Strategies
1. Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the moment without judgment. It can help reduce anxiety by allowing you to observe your thoughts without reacting to them. Here are some mindfulness techniques you can try:
Breathing Exercises: Take slow, deep breaths, focusing on each inhale and exhale. This can help calm your mind and reduce anxiety.
Body Scan: Pay attention to different parts of your body, noting any tension or discomfort. This practice can enhance your awareness and promote relaxation.
Grounding Techniques: Use your senses to connect with your surroundings. Identify five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, and one you can taste.
2. Create a Routine
Establishing a daily routine can provide structure and predictability, which can be comforting for individuals with OCD. Here’s how to create an effective routine:
Morning Rituals: Start your day with a calming morning routine, such as meditation, journaling, or light stretching.
Scheduled Breaks: Plan regular breaks throughout your day to recharge. Use these breaks to practice mindfulness or engage in a favorite hobby.
Wind-Down Time: Create a relaxing evening routine to help signal your brain that it’s time to unwind, making it easier to transition to sleep.
3. Set Small, Achievable Goals
Breaking tasks into smaller, manageable goals can help reduce feelings of overwhelm. Instead of tackling an entire project, set specific, achievable objectives. For example:
Daily Tasks: Write down three tasks you want to accomplish each day, such as making your bed, preparing a healthy meal, or taking a short walk.
Gradual Exposure: If certain situations trigger your OCD, work with a therapist to create a plan for gradual exposure. Start with less anxiety-provoking situations and build up to more challenging ones.
4. Challenge Negative Thoughts
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques can be helpful in challenging irrational thoughts associated with OCD. Here’s how to practice cognitive restructuring:
Identify Distorted Thoughts: Pay attention to your internal dialogue. Are there negative or irrational thoughts that consistently arise?
Question Your Thoughts: Challenge these thoughts by asking yourself if they are based on facts or assumptions. Are there alternative explanations?
Replace with Positive Affirmations: Create positive affirmations to counteract negative thoughts. For instance, replace “I will fail if I don’t check this” with “I am capable, and I can handle uncertainty.”
5. Engage in Physical Activity
Regular physical activity is beneficial for mental health and can help reduce anxiety. Consider the following options:
Walking: A simple daily walk can help clear your mind and improve your mood.
Yoga: Practicing yoga can promote relaxation and mindfulness while also providing physical benefits.
Dancing or Exercise Classes: Join a class that interests you. Engaging in group activities can provide social support and motivation.
6. Limit Exposure to Triggers
Identifying and managing your triggers is essential for coping with OCD. Here are some strategies:
Recognize Triggers: Keep a journal to track situations or environments that increase your anxiety. Understanding your triggers can help you prepare for them.
Set Boundaries: If certain situations consistently lead to compulsive behaviors, establish boundaries to limit exposure.
Practice Saying No: It’s okay to decline situations that make you uncomfortable. Prioritize your mental well-being.
7. Use Distraction Techniques
When intrusive thoughts become overwhelming, distraction can be a helpful tool. Here are some activities you can engage in:
Creative Outlets: Pursue hobbies such as painting, writing, or playing an instrument to express yourself and shift your focus.
Reading or Listening: Dive into a good book, podcast, or music that captivates your attention and draws you away from obsessive thoughts.
Mind Puzzles: Engage in activities like crosswords, sudoku, or brain teasers to challenge your mind and redirect your thoughts.
8. Connect with Supportive People
Building a support network is crucial for managing OCD. Here’s how to connect with others:
Reach Out: Share your experiences with trusted friends or family members who can provide understanding and support.
Support Groups: Consider joining a local or online support group for individuals with OCD. Connecting with others facing similar challenges can provide validation and encouragement.
Professional Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to a therapist like Dr. Karen Hawk for professional guidance and support tailored to your needs.
9. Educate Yourself About OCD
Understanding OCD can empower you to manage your symptoms more effectively. Consider the following:
Read Books: Explore literature on OCD to gain insight into the condition and effective coping strategies.
Online Resources: Visit reputable websites and forums dedicated to OCD to connect with others and access valuable information.
Therapy Education: Engage with your therapist to learn about the theories and techniques used in your treatment, allowing you to apply them in daily life.
10. Practice Self-Compassion
Coping with OCD can be frustrating and exhausting. It’s essential to practice self-compassion and kindness towards yourself. Here’s how:
Acknowledge Your Struggles: Recognize that living with OCD is challenging, and it’s okay to feel frustrated or overwhelmed.
Avoid Self-Criticism: Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend. Avoid negative self-talk and practice affirmations of self-acceptance.
Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Recognizing achievements can boost your motivation and self-esteem.

This article outlines these strategies to empower individuals on their journey to better mental health.
Understanding Depression
Before diving into management strategies, it's essential to understand what depression is. It’s more than just feeling sad; it’s a complex mental health disorder characterized by a range of emotional, physical, and behavioral symptoms. The causes of depression can vary and may include:
Genetic factors: A family history of depression can increase the risk.
Biochemical changes: Imbalances in neurotransmitters can affect mood.
Environmental factors: Stressful life events, trauma, or chronic stress can trigger depressive episodes.
Psychological factors: Negative thinking patterns and low self-esteem can contribute to depression.
Signs and Symptoms of Depression
Recognizing the symptoms of depression is the first step toward seeking help. Common signs include:
Persistent sadness or low mood
Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
Changes in appetite or weight
Sleep disturbances (insomnia or oversleeping)
Fatigue and low energy
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
Thoughts of death or suicide
If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, reaching out for support is crucial.
Tips for Managing Depression
Dr. Karen Hawk emphasizes a holistic approach to managing depression, combining professional help with self-care strategies. Here are some effective tips she recommends:
1. Seek Professional Help
The first step in managing depression is often seeking professional support. Therapy can provide a safe space to explore feelings, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies. Dr. Hawk specializes in various therapeutic approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This evidence-based approach helps individuals recognize and change negative thought patterns that contribute to depression.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Integrating mindfulness can improve awareness and acceptance of emotions, reducing stress and anxiety.
Medication Management: For some, antidepressant medications may be beneficial. Consulting a psychiatrist can help determine if medication is appropriate.
2. Build a Support System
Isolation can exacerbate depression. Surrounding yourself with supportive friends and family is vital. Dr. Hawk encourages clients to:
Reach out: Don’t hesitate to talk to trusted friends or family members about how you’re feeling. Sharing your struggles can provide relief.
Join Support Groups: Connecting with others who understand what you’re going through can foster a sense of belonging and reduce feelings of isolation.
3. Establish a Routine
Creating a daily routine can provide structure and stability, which is often disrupted in depression. Dr. Karen Hawk suggests:
Set small goals: Break tasks into manageable steps. Achieving small goals can foster a sense of accomplishment and boost motivation.
Include enjoyable activities: Even if you don’t feel like it, scheduling time for activities you usually enjoy can help lift your mood over time.
4. Engage in Physical Activity
Regular physical activity is a powerful tool for managing depression. Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood. Dr. Hawk recommends:
Find activities you enjoy: Whether it’s walking, dancing, swimming, or yoga, engaging in physical activities you love can make it easier to stay active.
Start small: If motivation is low, begin with short walks or gentle exercises and gradually increase intensity.
5. Prioritize Sleep Hygiene
Sleep plays a crucial role in mental health. Poor sleep can worsen depressive symptoms. Dr. Hawk advises:
Establish a sleep routine: Aim to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. This consistency can improve sleep quality.
Create a restful environment: Make your bedroom conducive to sleep by minimizing noise and light and keeping it cool and comfortable.
6. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness and meditation can help manage symptoms of depression by promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Dr. Hawk suggests:
Start with guided meditation: There are numerous apps and online resources available for beginners. Guided sessions can help you learn the practice.
Incorporate mindfulness into daily activities: Practice being present while doing everyday tasks, such as eating or walking. Focus on your senses and the experience.
7. Maintain a Healthy Diet
Nutrition plays a significant role in mental health. Dr. Hawk emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet:
Eat nutrient-rich foods: Incorporate fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats into your meals.
Stay hydrated: Dehydration can affect mood and energy levels. Aim to drink enough water throughout the day.
8. Limit Alcohol and Substance Use
While it might be tempting to use alcohol or drugs as a coping mechanism, these substances can worsen depression. Dr. Karen Hawk recommends:
Identify triggers: Be aware of situations where you might turn to substances and develop healthier coping strategies.
Seek help if needed: If substance use is a concern, consider reaching out to a professional for support.
9. Challenge Negative Thoughts
Negative thinking patterns can perpetuate feelings of hopelessness. Dr. Hawk encourages clients to:
Recognize cognitive distortions: Identify negative thoughts and challenge their validity. Ask yourself if there is evidence to support these thoughts.
Replace negative thoughts: Practice reframing negative thoughts into more balanced, positive ones.
10. Engage in Creative Activities
Creative expression can be therapeutic and provide an outlet for emotions. Dr. Hawk suggests:
Explore different forms of art: Whether it’s painting, writing, music, or crafting, find a creative activity that resonates with you.
Don’t aim for perfection: Focus on the process rather than the outcome. Enjoying the activity itself can be rewarding.
11. Volunteer or Help Others
Helping others can foster a sense of purpose and connection. Dr. Hawk encourages clients to:
Engage in community service: Volunteering can provide a sense of accomplishment and reduce feelings of isolation.
Reach out to friends or family: Offer support to others in need. Acts of kindness can uplift both you and those you help.
12. Educate Yourself About Depression
Understanding depression can empower individuals to take control of their mental health. Dr. Hawk recommends:
Read books and articles: Learning about depression can provide insight into your experiences and help you feel less alone.
Attend workshops or seminars: Look for local mental health events that provide education and resources.
13. Monitor Your Progress
Keeping track of your mental health can help you identify patterns and triggers. Dr. Karen Hawk suggests:
Maintain a journal: Write about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Reflecting on your entries can provide valuable insights into your mood and progress.
Set measurable goals: Regularly evaluate your goals and adjust them as needed. Celebrate small achievements along the way.
When to Seek Immediate Help
It’s crucial to recognize when professional help is necessary. Dr. Hawk emphasizes the importance of seeking immediate support if you experience:
Persistent thoughts of self-harm or suicide
Severe changes in mood or behavior
Inability to cope with daily life or responsibilities
If you or someone you know is in crisis, reach out to a mental health professional or call a crisis hotline immediately. In Arizona, the Arizona Crisis Line is available at 1-800-631-1314.

Understanding Jaundice: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Tumblr media
What is Jaundice?
Jaundice is a medical condition characterized by the yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes. This yellow color is due to an excess of bilirubin, a yellow-orange bile pigment, in the blood. Bilirubin is produced during the normal breakdown of red blood cells and is usually processed by the liver. When there is a disruption in this process, jaundice can occur.
Causes of Jaundice
Jaundice can be caused by various underlying conditions, which are broadly categorized into pre-hepatic (before bile is made in the liver), hepatic (issues within the liver), and post-hepatic (after bile is made).
Pre-Hepatic Causes:
Hemolytic anemia: Accelerated breakdown of red blood cells increases bilirubin production.
Sickle cell anemia: Abnormal red blood cells break down more rapidly.
Malaria: Infection causes red blood cell destruction.
Hepatic Causes:
Hepatitis: Inflammation of the liver reduces its ability to process bilirubin.
Cirrhosis: Chronic liver damage from various causes leads to scarring and liver dysfunction.
Liver cancer: Malignant cells impair liver function.
Genetic disorders: Conditions like Gilbert's syndrome affect bilirubin metabolism.
Post-Hepatic Causes:
Gallstones: Block the bile ducts, preventing bilirubin excretion.
Pancreatic cancer: Tumors can compress the bile ducts.
Biliary atresia: Congenital condition where bile ducts are absent or blocked.
Symptoms of Jaundice
Yellowing of the skin and eyes
Dark urine
Pale stools
Itchy skin
Fatigue
Abdominal pain
Weight loss
Vomiting
Diagnosis of Jaundice
Diagnosing jaundice involves a combination of clinical evaluation and laboratory tests:
Physical Examination: A doctor will look for signs of jaundice and other related symptoms.
Laboratory Tests:
Bilirubin Levels: Blood tests to measure total and direct (conjugated) bilirubin.
Complete Blood Count (CBC): To check for hemolytic anemia.
Liver Function Tests (LFTs): To assess the liver's health and functioning.
Viral Hepatitis Panel: To detect hepatitis viruses.
Imaging Studies:
Ultrasound: To visualize the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts.
CT Scan/MRI: For more detailed imaging.
Liver Biopsy: In some cases, a small tissue sample from the liver may be examined to determine the cause of liver dysfunction.
Treatment of Jaundice
The treatment of jaundice focuses on addressing the underlying cause:
Pre-Hepatic Jaundice:
Treating the underlying hemolytic disorders or infections.
Hepatic Jaundice:
Hepatitis: Antiviral or immunosuppressive drugs.
Cirrhosis: Lifestyle changes, medications, or possibly a liver transplant.
Liver Cancer: Surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.
Post-Hepatic Jaundice:
Gallstones: Medications to dissolve stones or surgery to remove them.
Tumors: Surgical removal, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy.
Biliary Atresia: Surgery to reconstruct bile ducts or liver transplant.
Tumblr media
Managing Jaundice
Dietary Changes: Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean protein can support liver health.
Hydration: Drinking plenty of fluids helps maintain kidney function and aids in the excretion of bilirubin.
Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol can exacerbate liver damage.
Medication Management: Some medications can cause liver damage; consult a doctor before taking new medications.
When to See a Doctor
Seek medical attention if you notice symptoms of jaundice, especially if accompanied by severe abdominal pain, confusion, or blood in vomit or stool, as these could indicate a serious underlying condition.
Understanding jaundice and its underlying causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment is crucial for effective management and recovery. If you suspect jaundice, it's important to seek medical attention promptly.

Dr. Karen Hawk’s Support for Individuals Facing Major Life Changes
Life is full of transitions—some are planned, while others are unexpected. Major life changes, whether positive or negative, can create a sense of uncertainty, stress, and emotional overwhelm. From career shifts and relocations to the loss of a loved one or navigating a new phase of life, these transitions challenge our sense of stability and identity. Fortunately, individuals facing major life changes do not have to go through the process alone. Dr. Karen Hawk, a psychologist in Gilbert, Arizona, offers comprehensive counseling to help individuals manage these transitions with greater resilience and emotional well-being. By combining a compassionate, client-centered approach with evidence-based therapeutic techniques, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix provides the support needed to successfully navigate life’s most challenging shifts.
Understanding the Emotional Impact of Major Life Changes
Major life changes, even those that are considered positive, often lead to feelings of anxiety, sadness, and uncertainty. Whether it’s a job promotion, the end of a long-term relationship, or the birth of a child, these changes can disrupt the emotional equilibrium we have established. Dr. Karen Hawk recognizes that life transitions often stir up a mix of emotions, including excitement, fear, grief, and a sense of loss. The emotional impact can vary depending on the nature of the change and the individual’s coping style.
Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and validating the emotional reactions to life changes. It’s common to feel a sense of loss or grief, even in the face of positive events. For example, the excitement of moving to a new city can be overshadowed by the sadness of leaving behind familiar surroundings, friends, and family. By validating these feelings, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix creates a safe space for clients to explore their emotions and better understand their responses to change. This process of self-reflection helps individuals better cope with the challenges they face during times of transition.
Building Emotional Resilience Through Counseling
One of the most valuable tools Dr. Karen Hawk offers individuals facing major life changes is the development of emotional resilience. Resilience is the ability to adapt to life’s difficulties and recover from setbacks. While some people are naturally more resilient than others, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix believes that resilience can be cultivated through therapy, self-awareness, and the development of coping skills.
Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix works with clients to build resilience by helping them reframe negative thought patterns, manage stress effectively, and identify their strengths. When faced with a significant life change, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. However, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps clients recognize their inherent ability to bounce back from adversity. Through cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and goal-setting strategies, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix empowers individuals to see life changes as opportunities for growth, rather than insurmountable obstacles. This mindset shift helps clients approach transitions with a greater sense of control and confidence.
Managing Stress and Anxiety During Times of Change
Major life changes are often accompanied by increased levels of stress and anxiety. Whether it’s the fear of the unknown, concerns about the future, or the pressure of making important decisions, stress can take a physical and emotional toll on individuals. Dr. Karen Hawk understands the unique stressors that arise during life transitions and provides clients with effective strategies to manage anxiety and restore balance.
Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix teaches relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided imagery to help clients reduce the physical symptoms of stress. These practices can be particularly helpful when individuals are feeling overwhelmed by change. In addition, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix uses mindfulness-based strategies to help clients stay grounded in the present moment, reducing the tendency to ruminate on past events or worry about future outcomes. By incorporating these techniques into their daily lives, clients can reduce stress and regain a sense of calm amidst the chaos of transition.
Navigating Grief and Loss During Life Changes
Grief is a common companion during major life changes, especially when these changes involve loss—whether the loss of a loved one, a career, a relationship, or even one’s sense of self. The process of grieving can be long and complex, but Dr. Karen Hawk is deeply attuned to the nuances of grief and its impact on mental health. Through her compassionate counseling approach, she provides a safe and supportive environment for clients to express their grief and begin the healing process.
Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps clients understand that grief is not a linear process; it involves a range of emotions and experiences that vary from person to person. Whether it’s the feeling of sadness, anger, guilt, or confusion, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix encourages clients to explore their emotions without judgment. Through therapeutic techniques such as narrative therapy and emotional processing, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps individuals work through their grief and find ways to move forward with greater peace and acceptance. Importantly, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix reminds clients that healing from loss is not about “getting over it” but learning to live with it in a way that promotes emotional well-being.
Rebuilding Self-Identity and Finding Purpose
One of the most profound impacts of major life changes is the way they can challenge or alter one’s sense of identity. After a significant change, individuals may feel disconnected from who they once were, unsure of their place in the world, or uncertain about their future. This is particularly true after events such as divorce, the loss of a job, or the transition to a new phase of life, such as retirement or parenthood.
Dr. Karen Hawk works with clients to help them rebuild their self-identity and find a renewed sense of purpose during times of transition. She uses a strengths-based approach to help individuals identify their core values, talents, and passions. Whether it’s setting new goals, engaging in personal development, or finding new activities that bring joy and fulfillment, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps clients reconnect with their authentic selves. Through counseling, individuals can begin to see life changes as opportunities to reinvent themselves and move toward a more purposeful and meaningful life.
Creating a Plan for Moving Forward
While it’s essential to process the emotions and challenges associated with major life changes, Dr. Karen Hawk also believes in the importance of creating a concrete plan for moving forward. By working together to set achievable goals and outline steps for the future, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps clients regain a sense of direction and control. Whether it’s making a career transition, rebuilding relationships, or navigating a new living situation, having a clear plan can make a significant difference in reducing feelings of uncertainty and overwhelm.
Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps clients break down their goals into manageable steps, encouraging them to take one step at a time while also celebrating progress along the way. This approach fosters a sense of accomplishment and motivation, reinforcing the idea that individuals can move through life’s transitions with resilience and determination.
Building a Support System During Life Transitions
Navigating life’s transitions is often easier when individuals have a strong support system in place. Dr. Karen Hawk emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with supportive friends, family, and community members during times of change. Additionally, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix encourages clients to seek professional support when needed. Whether through individual therapy, support groups, or workshops, having access to additional resources can provide the emotional support and guidance needed to thrive during a transition.
Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix works with clients to explore ways to build and strengthen their support system, ensuring that they have the resources they need to weather the challenges ahead. Whether it’s reaching out to loved ones, seeking professional guidance, or connecting with peers who are experiencing similar transitions, building a network of support is a key part of navigating change successfully.
Conclusion: Embracing Change with Dr. Karen Hawk’s Support
Major life changes are inevitable, and while they may initially seem overwhelming, they also provide opportunities for growth, renewal, and transformation. Dr. Karen Hawk, a psychologist in Gilbert, Arizona, offers compassionate counseling to individuals navigating life transitions. Through emotional support, resilience-building strategies, and practical goal-setting, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix helps individuals embrace change and find new meaning and purpose in their lives. If you’re facing a major life transition and need guidance, Dr Karen Hawk Psychologist Phoenix is here to provide the tools, support, and encouragement you need to move forward with confidence, hope, and clarity.

I'm sorry, I just need to get things off my chest, again. If I had my therapy session sooner rather than waiting over a month for it, it would've been helpful. Alas I have no choice but to wait and with no one to turn to, I'm gonna talk into the void.
I am completely mentally drained and exhausted in all sense of the word. I don't think it's been this bad since 2018. Honestly I think this time it's much worse. I rarely get out of bed unless I need to do something important or forcibly drag myself out. I can't sleep at night and sleep most of the day when I'm allowed to, well unless I'm dealing with a nightmare, which has become my daily hell. Trust me when I say I would rather dream of Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, and Chucky chasing me than the dreams I've been having. I've been eating a lot of chocolate just to feel some kind of joy.
I don't have anyone to talk to. My mom has never been a reliable person to talk to about this stuff because she's too judgemental, doesn't get it, is too stressed out herself, or she makes me about herself like, "Oh if I can do it, so can you so you have no excuse." My friend is busy with her life and I don't feel comfortable telling her stuff like this when she's already dealing with so much. And in general I've just been feeling ignored and pushed to the side like I'm not there, like my voice doesn't matter.
All of this is starting to affect me physically to the point where I feel pain in my chest and feel my blood pressure spiking and my stomach churning from how stressed out I am. And no matter how much I try to distract myself, do all the breathing exercises, and practicing mindfulness, it hasn't worked. Hell I almost passed out in the store today from how bad it was. And I know I need to find a way to fix it, especially with surgery two weeks away, but man has it been hard.
And I know this is going to sound sad and pathetic, but literally the only thing keeping me going is Gilbert's route being released in EN soon. I'm remembering I had an attempt back in December '22 and the only thing that stopped me was that I didn't get Gilbert's 5 star card when they officially dropped in EN and I wanted more opportunities to try and win it. Then it turned into I wanted to read more stories about him, then wanting to read translations of his route that was released in JP, and now I'm trying to use his EN route release to keep moving forward, even though all I want to do is give up. If it keeps me alive, why not? Not that I'm heavily depending on a fictional character to keep me above water, just that he's part of the little pieces that give me motivation to keep going. I also want to see the surgery through and recover and hopefully feel better enough to have a new life, I want to find a good job that pays well so I can have more income to help out and do more things that I want to do, I want to make more cosplay, draw and write more, create that custom Emma doll, wear the pretty dresses, travel at the very least out of my city/state, make it to my 30th birthday, find more GF and dairy free snacks I can actually eat, read more romance books, and so on. Even if I'm on my own in all of this, if I can use these things to hold on, I'll try to keep pushing forward.
For now I'll have my good cry, eat my chocolate peanut butter cups, take a shower, and hope that maybe God will grant me mercy and make tomorrow a much better day for me.
