Some people want a computer just for work. Normally when you buy a computer, you will get quite a big case. But did you know you can get a computer with the same strength while being a lot smaller. Beneath here is a sample built for sudge a small pc. All components will have a link to Amazon and there will also be alternatives. Processor AMD - Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor: https://amzn.to/2GXDqWO This is quite a strong processor with integrated graphics. That means you wouldn’t need a separate graphic card. Of course, you can still put in a graphic card and turn this little computer in a strong gaming computer The link is to the CPU + fan, so don’t worry about buying a separate fan. Giving different options here is a bit difficult because I don’t want to give options for components which wouldn’t fit in the other parts on this list. If there is enough engagement I will make another one with a focus on an Intel processor. However, 2 x 4 will be better if you stay with this build. This SSD is not the fastest but fast enough in my opinion. SSD + HDD Not my favourite but most computers have this. A small SSD for windows and a big HDD for the rest. Not really fast to work on, but cheaper. Fractal Design is well respected in the PC community for making elegant and innovative computer cases and the new Era ITX is a unique leap forward. Almost 2 years ago, Fractal deviated from the traditional square box slightly with the angular designs on the Meshify.   A Closer Look at the Outside
Fractal’s case packaging doesn’t go over the top. The ERA comes in simple monochromatic box with the appropriate color marked with a sticker, in our case, Cobalt blue.
Inside, the Era case is wrapped in a foam bag and sits in Styrofoam supports. A large flat box sits on top and holds the accessories.
Inside the box is yet another box, and the two top panels. One mesh, common to all color options, and for our model, a dark tempered glass panel.
The smaller box includes some zip ties for wire management, and a pile of screws for the motherboard, drives, and other parts.
The entire outside is almost entirely sculpted aluminum. A pattern of holes is drilled at an angle to let even more air in.
The rear looks similar to most cases, with the main surface inset a bit from the sculpted exterior surface. You get two expansion slots, an IEC C14 AC Inlet, and a fan grill with an included 80mm fan hiding behind it and the standard motherboard rear-IO cutout.
The right-hand side also has a drilled grill pattern on the rear half for airflow.
The top is plastic with a few magnetic posts sticking up. Both top options are not installed while shipping.

The top panels sit in place and are held magnetically. A fairly wide gap surrounds the installed top panel for exhaust airflow.
      A Closer Look at the Inside
The left and right doors just pull outwards from the top and lift off the bottom to remove, no tools needed.
The studs are a permanent part of the door and snap into the main chassis at the top.
The top is somewhat spring loaded and not an issue but the bottom of the door uses rubber washers to absorb any sort of vibration to keep the ERA quiet.
There are several studs on the inside of the panels that the included dust filter snaps on to. The filter itself is plastic so it can be washed and re-used.
With the doors off, the inside of the ERA is very busy. There are brackets everywhere and a pretty good pile of cables for such a small case.
The first bracket you’ll need to move holds one 3.5” drive with vibration dampening or a pair of 2.5” drives natively. If you are willing to get a little creative with double-sided tape or similar, there is room for several more 2.5” drives on this bracket.
With the drive bracket out of the way, and the cables moved, you get a look at the rest of the pre-installed brackets. Two PSU mounts and another drive bracket make up these options.
The internal bracket holds yet again, one 3.5” drive on vibration absorbers or two 2.5” drives. The power supply brackets can be moved up or down to several different positions to help accommodate different hardware combinations.
The ERA case comes with both power supply mounting brackets, one for ATX, and one for SFX or SFX-L units.

The top frame easily pops out for access to mounting locations for fans or a cooler, as well as washing the built-in fan filter.

The rear power inlet is hardwired to an internal extension cable and routed towards the front of the case. It ends in a matching low-profile, right-angle plug. Since 80mm fans are not as common as they once were, Fractal includes one pre-installed on the rear panel for a bit of additional ventilation.
The front-rear corner of the motherboard tray has a Fractal branded Velcro wrap pre-installed for cable management.
For front panel wiring, you get a USB 3 and USB Type-C connectors.
The USB Type-C front panel header uses a very thin cable and a small plug. With many boards having this plug pointed out rather than towards and edge, this makes sure your cable doesn’t interfere with other components like coolers.
Standard audio, and Power switch and LED plugs round out the front panel I/O.
  System Build & Testing
We happened to have a Fractal Celsius S24 already sitting on the shelf, so we decided to give it a go here.
Internals will be as follows: Gigabyte B450 I AORUS PRO WIFI AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 16GB of G.Skill Trident Z 3000MHz AMD Radeon RX 5700XT 512GB OCZ RD400 M.2 Corsair SF750 SFX Power Supply.
With most compact builds, you’ll not want to really go ham on mounting everything until you check clearances, cable lengths, and similar. Sometimes things need to move or flip around to solve clearance issues or routing as you build, so you’ll see we only install everything with a screw or two until we are sure about everything.

We started by loosely mounting the Celsius S24 cooler with two screws in opposite corners to gauge tubing runs and power supply mounting.
After this we slapped the motherboard in with CPU and ram pre-installed and then installed the GPU. We also loosely installed the SFX power supply bracket so we could hold the power supply in place and make sure the power plug cleared the fans on the cooler.
Corsair’s tiny SF750 power supply mounts like any other SFX power supply. We turned it so the power switch was towards the main door on the left side.
After this, we ran all of the power cables, which consist of the main 24-pin, a single 8-pin EPS, and a single GPU cable with twin 6+2 connectors for the Radeon 5700XT. You can access the rear of the CPU socket easily so we went ahead and installed the business end of the liquid cooler at this stage. It’s at a slight angle so as not to pull too tightly on the hoses, but it won’t hurt anything and this isn’t a windowed case anyway.
The Celsius S24 cooler can run the tubing right behind the power supply towards the front of the case as long as it’s all the way forward itself.
We made sure the power supply’s normally external switch is turned ‘on’ now before we have to open the door again later.
At this point, we ran the front panel cables to the appropriate places on the board, connected the fan cables from the cooler, and cable managed everything. There is a ton of space for slack cable between the GPU and the motherboard tray, so we hid most of the slack there.

For as compact as the ERA is, there is a ton of space. There are a lot of places to stuff cables that don’t affect airflow, so you end up with a very clean build.
We have a pretty potent 8-core system in here, so let’s close her up and see how it does thermally.
Testing
We start with the glass cover, the least amount of ventilation, and likely the worst temps. After getting distracted and running a bit over our 30-minute run time, we see a CPU max temp of 76C on the CPU. We would love to tell you noise levels, but our sound meter only goes down to 30dB and unless you stick it in the fan blades, it’s too quiet to register.
The GPU itself enjoys a nice supply of fresh air which is then exhausted right out the back of the case, so it only gets to a pretty typical 82C max.
We let the system idle for an hour and switched to the mesh cover for the next test. We ran the same test (and yet again got distracted) and ended up with a max CPU temp of 72C, 4C cooler than with the glass cover.  We don’t consider this significant for the overwhelming majority of users.
Even if you keep your system pegged out for hours at a time rendering, you likely won’t see any performance difference unless you are overclocking to the bleeding edge using either top cover. It’s great to see that this choice is largely aesthetic with a minimal performance impact. It shows that the ERA has pretty solid airflow.
Final Thoughts & Conclusion
Flexibility usually means space but Fractal tosses that notion right out the door with the ERA. There is nothing really new here, things like removable drive mounts and different options for PSU types have been around for a while now. What IS new is the combination of features. Not only can you pick ATX or SFX power supplies, but you can also move the mount up and down to accommodate different cooling options. If you need storage beyond on-board M.2 drives, you have the option to install up to two big hard drives, four 2.5” drives, or some combination of both.
Our Only real complaint is the GPU area. Most video cards form the last few generations have shipped with a 2.x slot cooler that is just a little too thick to use here. A lot of the case is designed to be silent, but limiting you to a blower cooler is going to really backtrack on that. Either making the case just a few millimetres taller or shifting the internals up a touch would give you enough room for a thicker cooler. There is plenty of airflow, its just a clearance issue. One superficial complaint is the power button. It does its job, but I personally wish it had a bit more click or was a touch more tactile.
If you can appreciate the engineering Fractal has managed here, the inside of the ERA is every bit as beautiful as the outside. If you don’t, well, it’s an easy case to build in that supports a ton of flexibility in a beautifully sculpted aluminum shell. If looks are all that matter to you, you’ll also be quite pleased that selecting the glass or wooden top won’t really have much impact on your temps or corresponding performance. It’s nice not to have to make compromises. The $160 street price is on the higher end for ITX/SFF cases, but we feel the high-quality anodized shell, flexible configuration, included top options, color choice assortment and overall design and quality are well inline with the asking price.

GIGABYTE have detailed their LGA1200 motherboards for Intel Comet Lake desktop chips. Highlighting the Z490 options, GIGABYTE have drawn attention to an improved “Fins-Array II” heatsink and Daisy Chain memory routing. In addition, the boards are ready for PCIe 4.0 and have many smaller improvements.
GIGABYTE are topping off their range in their usual style, with the Z490 Aorus Xtreme range. Not only is there an air cooled board, but also a Z490 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce for the extremely heavy of wallet. The true flagships with a high but realistic price are the Z490 Aorus Master, Ultra and Vision D. Moving down the range, GIGABYTE have a wide selection under the AORUS, VISION and GAMING banners. Finally, in the value segment, the UD branding comes back once again.
The PCIe 4.0 readiness extends to GIGABYTE’s entire range of Z490 boards at time of writing, even the impressively cheap Z490M. The extent of the PCIe 4.0 design ranges from just the BCLK generator and primary PCIe x16 slot on the cheapest boards, up to switches and redrivers for multiple PCIe 4.0 slots on top models. Intel’s 10th gen Comet Lake chips lack PCIe 4.0 support, but it’s expected to touch down with next-gen Rocket Lake chips on the same socket.

There are a lot of features for GIGABYTE’S Z490 range, including 90A smart power stages for the VRMs and thunderbolt ports on some models. However there are three in particular we want to highlight.
Fins: GIGABYTE Upgrade Heatsinks for Comet Lake
High-end GIGABYTE Z490 boards come with VRMs using 90A smart power stages with up to 16 true phases. That means independent, directly driven, by a 16-phase controller. Despite this, GIGABYTE are aware that some users will be absolute thrashing their VRMs with a watercooled Comet Lake 10-core. Where ASRock chose to add fans to their flagship Z490 boards, GIGABYTE are beefing up their heatsinks.
The GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS ULTRA G2, named for the Gigabyte-sponsored esports team, shows off the Fins-Array II with a bold red colour.
The improvements come fourfold. First, GIGABYTE’s new Fins-Array II claims “3x the surface area compared to traditional heatsinks”. This is achieved with a tight array of small fins, far from what the community derides as “fashion blocks”. Second, improved “Direct-Touch Heatpipe II technology” puts an 8mm heatpipe right up against the heat-generating components. Third, reshaped fins are claimed to allow for superior heat dissipation. Finally, a high-end LAIRD 7.5W/mK thermal pad (5W/mK on cheaper models) gets the heat from the VRM to the heatsink faster.

Like ASRock’s VRM fans, GIGABYTE are primarily gracing their top-end boards with the improved cooling. If you’re watercooling a top-end comet lake chip like the i9-10900K, GIGABYTE think you’ll do it with the Z490 AORUS PRO AX or better.
Daisies: GIGABYTE Embrace 2-DIMM Setups with Comet Lake
While many have scoffed at what they see as another Skylake rehash, the overclocking community has been buzzing about Z490. Words like “DDR4-5500” get thrown around in excited whispers. We know Comet Lake i7s and i9s have an improved memory controller, because they add formal DDR4-2933 support. The rumour is that it translates to impressive overclocked speeds at the top end, and could potentially take AMD’s world record.
Memory Layout in Brief
When a motherboard manufacturer designs their memory area they have a choice to make about layout. On a typical mainstream board (2 channels, 4 slots) there are two main options – T-topology or daisy-chain. T-topology runs traces to halfway between the slots and then splits off, making a T shape. This makes both slots equal, so configurations that fill all 4 run better.
Daisy-chain, on the other hand, runs traces directly to the first slot in a channel then from that to the second. This makes the traces as short as possible, and minimises electrical issues like reflections for the second (outer) slot. The practical effect is that a 2-DIMM setup using the outer slots (“2 and 4”) will run better, at the cost of 4-DIMM setups.
A less common setup is 1 DIMM per channel (2 channels, 2 slots). Servicing just one slot gives the shortest traces, least electrical issues, and best performance. The downside is half the capacity. Hardcore overclocking boards like the limited-run GA-Z97X-SOC Force LN2 favour this layout for the very best memory overclocks.
GIGABYTE’s Memory Layout for Comet Lake
Usually, GIGABYTE gravitate towards T-topology. All their Z370 and Z390 boards used it, as did X370/B350 and X470/B450 offerings for AMD CPUs. This time around though, things are different. GIGABYTE are highlighting a daisy-chain layout for their Z490 comet lake boards. A strong memory controller means that a 4-DIMM setup should still run reasonably well on daisy-chain, but 2 DIMMs will run even better. GIGABYTE highlight the ability to run up to 32GB per DIMM, and likely expect even high capacity setups to be served by 2x32GB rather than 4x16GB.
For the performance enthusiast, daisy-chain means extreme 2x8GB kits. The Z490 AORUS XTREME memory QVL claims support for 2x8GB setups up to DDR4-5000, listing kits made by HyperX and in-house at AORUS. GIGABYTE are also trumpeting ground layers shielding the traces, and even SMT DIMM slots on the Z490 AORUS XTREME – an expensive option that gives a small extra bump to signal integrity.
Caps: Tantalum Polymer Capacitors Array Promises Smoother Power
Bear with us, because this gets a little nerdy even by Play3r standards. What GIGABYTE are doing here is very cool though. There’s also a story behind it, going back to the AMD X570 launch.
The Story
Back when the AMD X570 chipset came out, it was joined by a new VRM controller chip. The snappily titled XDPE132G5C, made by Infineon, is a true 16-phase. More phases means less ripple and faster response, and GIGABYTE implemented this in a 14+2 configuration on their top-end X570 board. However, when VRM enthusiast Buildzoid of Youtube channel Actually Hardcore Overclocking tested it, the performance wasn’t as good as it could have been. The star of his testing was actually Gigabyte’s X570 ITX board, which had a much lower phase count.

Obviously the 14+2-phase X570 Xtreme could still deliver far more total power, but why would the 6+2-phase X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI have tighter regulation? The reason seems to be the capacitors. GIGABYTE were using mostly can-style capacitors on the Xtreme, which can be a bit slow. The ITX board used “Surface Mount Device” (SMD) capacitors, which are smaller and solder directly to the board. This puts the capacitance right up against where it’s needed. As a result, spikes are soaked up faster and dips filled in faster. Technically speaking, SMD capacitors have a lower Equivalent Series Inductance (ESL – yes, inductance is “L”).
The Result
GIGABYTE’s engineers are smart people, and don’t need a youtuber to tell them SMD caps are better. Marketing, however, can be a different story. The cost has to be justified, and it seems an endorsement from an “influencer” helps make the case. Now the engineers have been let loose. Buildzoid is excited, and so are we.
So, what’s come out of all of this? GIGABYTE are equipping many of their Z490 boards with what they call a “Tantalum Polymer Capacitors Array”. Tantalum polymer is a particular type of SMD capacitor that uses the rare metal tantalum. Consequently they maintain their performance better for longer, compared to aluminium alternatives – as long as they stay in spec. In addition, being in the SMD form helps give them the low ESL that really boosts performance. Overall, GIGABYTE are using top tier capacitors that on paper should massively decrease the electrical noise your comet lake chip has to deal with. And, well, just look at them;
This is the array on the XTREME – cheaper models are less overkill.
This is where “Array” comes from. That’s a *lot* of caps, and good ones. Obviously there’s a lot more to VRM performance than just caps, and it takes testing in hand to know if a board is good. This is really exciting though.

GIGABYTE LGA1200 motherboards for Comet Lake have started showing up for pre-orders, including on Newegg in the US and Overclockers UK in the UK. According to Newegg, the availability date is the 20th of May.

If you are looking to build your own high-end gaming rig, YouTuber diningChef has this to share with you, a custom-built PC based on AMD’s flagship 3000 series CPU. The system uses AMD’s Ryzen 7 3800X quad-core processor and Radeon RX5700XT graphics for the ultimate gaming experience.
A little background on our guest. diningChef has been building gaming rigs, modding game consoles and upgrading PCs for a long time. Mainly out of interest, as a hobby, and to kill time. All of the machines he has built find a home within the gaming community.
I don’t really do it for the money but more for my own self-interest. Building rigs is one thing that I enjoy. I have sold a few rigs in the past, mainly entry level and mid-range rigs. If there are parts at the right price, I would consider buying them to put together my next project. I just love putting gaming machines together.

Finding the right balance in price vs performance
Both the CPU and dedicated graphics are the highest chips from their respective series. You can go totally overboard and build a system with AMD’s third generation Ryzen Threadripper processor with up to 64-cores. For most people, that will probably mean emptying their bank account.
For me, price and performance has to go hand-in-hand. You want a chip that you can afford and gives you the best bang for your buck. That is why I chose AMD over Intel processors. AMD is still cheaper than Intel. And, performance wise, it is better. At the moment, Intel is all hype and I have not seen anything in a similar price range that can offer the performance that I would consider. – diningChef
On choosing the Radeon RX over the GeForce RTX, he says as long as the system is capable of hitting 60fps on a 4K monitor in any game play, it is all he needs. Anything above that is an overkill. To diningChef, real-time ray tracing is not essential. However, if ray tracing is a necessity for you, then the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the best graphics card with real-time ray tracing technology but you are talking serious cash.

The rig took five days to finish building and as you can see from the photos, the result is amazing. It took longer for him this time around as it is the first time that he is using hard tubing which requires the tubes to be bent to the perfect angle for aesthetics and performance.
How does it perform
The rig achieves up to 109 Frames Per Second (FPS) at 2K resolution when running Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Even at full 4K resolution, the rig musters a respectable 78 FPS with no feeling of lag or stuttering. Advice for those looking to build their gaming machine
For those looking to get in to building their own gaming machine, diningChef has this to say:
Get as much information as you can about building your own gaming rig. Read up blogs, look up benchmarks and check-in with online communities, many are more than happy to help. There are a lot of groups on Facebook where you can ask for opinions, benchmark results and experience.
Consider what you want to do or play on your system. Basically, try and strike a balance between performance and price. I use my rig to edit videos using Adobe Premiere Pro for YouTube and for playing Triple A titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. These are demanding software and games so will require more grunt in the hardware department to cope.
Once decided, I get my parts from eBay, Amazon and sphock. Sometimes, I would pop-in to my local PC retailer or use online stores like CCL, Overclockers and Scan. I have also tried FB marketplace.
Keep an eye on the hardware prices. Component prices fluctuate, especially graphics card and memory. Consider buying them during sales like Black Friday.
If cost is putting you off, consider used hardware. I recommend used graphics adapter, motherboard, CPU and memory if you can be sure that they are compatible and will work together. However, I would use only a new power supply, hard disk drive (HDD) and solid state drive (SSD).
Remember to stress test the hardware to rule out any fault. Use Aida 64 for GPU and CPU. Then use MSI Afterburner benchmark your hardware while running games, online games like Fortnite and some triple A games.
Don’t forget the casing. Some casing are good and cheap but only come around once in a while. When I find a solid case and the price is good, I will normally consider buying a few.
Finally, always make sure that you keep your build tidy. Good cable management not only looks good but it helps keep the air flowing through the components and avoid overheating.
What would you recommend as a first rig or budget gaming PC
For a budget build, I would recommend a gaming PC based on Ryzen 5 series processor with 16GB DDR4 RAM memory and Radeon RX570 or 580 graphics on a B450 motherboard. You will need a 550W 80+ power supply unit and a suitable case to house it. For storage, use a combination of 128GB SSD and 1TB HDD. The rig will let you do a lot of gaming, easily handle most games, streaming 4K movies and edit videos.
