Was written a lot before the remake and because this idea wouldn't leave my mind so it's a bit obsolete

Summary:

Tseng one day contacts Reeve Tuesti : there is a child, in Kalm, who demonstrates the very same kind of powers as him, the powers of an "Inspire", to breathe life into inanimate object.

Problem is, not only are the people able to do that very few, but she was causing a lot of troubles, because this girl simply reinvented necromancy. Problem too : she's six years old.

Seeing her work her magic in unhealthy ways… Well, reminds Reeve of how he uses his own. Of how he was supported, and loved as a child, helped to use his giftfor good, and she very

obviously is not. She deserves a kind mentor, and someone to teach her what it's like to use this gift in a healthy way. Who better than a true Inspire ?

No.

Do not visualise. Do not think. Feel.

This child is struggling. Her heart is full of resent, of anger. She doesn’t want to be there. She suffocates within this steel town, his heartless city.

The only heart she’s willing to acknowledge within this dead fortress of cement and steel is the heart of the man who designed most of the districts around here, the very man trying to teach her the powers she already knows how to wield. All the rest, to her, is cold as death, and she knows death way better than the opposite of eternal slumber itself. Nothing surprising in that she’s having troubles to focus to breathe life into something.

Well. She can do it. Just not the way she should.

The teddy bear she’s trying to animate won’t work. The dead fly just at the end of the room, though ? Has been flying like a cannonball since at least five good minutes.

“Please, try again,” he asks softly, a kind gaze upon her.

He’s sitting on a small stool nearby, a hand wrapped around the belly of a cat plush, the other petting its head. From her perspective, he saw it, it is a useless, childish move. But it helps him keep a peaceful expression nonetheless, and more than that, soothing. Behind this calm façade, he’s reflecting, trying to find out how best to move this little girl’s soul… Even though she resists.

Most of all, he’s trying to convey into her this very calm that he felt, this peaceful, happy serenity, that he uses whenever he breathes life into a puppet. It’s a bit hard sometimes, though, even for himself, whispers a tiny voice in his mind, the voice he silences by acting, most of the time. Really hard, especially when the President Shinra or Hojo or any of the others have their plan set into some atrocity he can only protest with zero use… But right now that’s not the time to think about such things.

Right now it’s the time to help a little girl.

“It’s OK,” he says slowly. “Just try to breathe, and think about positive emotions that you wish to share.”

“Yeah, but I can’t,” huffs the little girl, letting herself drop on the floral motives carpet below, with a sigh that is more a groan than a whimper.

She raises her nose to him, her messy and tangled black hair finally dropping away from her face, and she directs her steel grey eyes on Reeve.

“I dunno how to do what you say. Not the way I do it.”

She didn’t have an easy life. Her Gift only attracted troubles for her, and she wasn’t exactly encouraged. Unlike him, her parents did not help her. Her mother only ever criticised and tried to correct her violently, calling her monster, driving her daughter to sleep on the street with urchins for several nights inside Kalm, instead of living inside with her.

And honestly with how she lived before, the way she was brought here and narrowly avoided being taken by Hojo to be a lab rat, who wished to explore this power that Reeve also possessed although hiding it from the rest of the company, it was no surprise this tiny girl, Tina, had troubles feeling happiness and trusting Reeve.

So he would need patience. Which, well, in his everyday life, with the war with Wutai raging on, was not exactly possible. Still. Patience.

The same patience you show to a child. To Cait Sith too. The same patience you would like to see people applying with each other.

“Let’s try something else,” he resumes, with a slow nod. “You know how every life is made from this flow we call the Lifestream, do you ? Try to…”

“Nope,” she cuts him off with a bad temper, frowning. “That, I know. And I know how to do what you ask me. But on that thing ? I can’t. It’s stupid.” She makes a gesture toward the teddy bear he gave her a bit earlier, and that following his instructions, she placed on the floor, on the middle of the carpet. The room is too sinister, the light too bright, the walls too empty. It’s not a place for a child, he thinks. Her little face is crunched up in disdain. “This stuff is stupid. It’s not meant to live. I can’t give it life.”

Reeve does feel a huge pinch in his heart, seeing how she treats his creations. Do not be fooled: it’s not that he’s hurt she’s not giving a single care about all the work he spent sewing, stuffing and designing all these plushes. He simply was…

Sad.

Not a matter of pride.

He’s not hurt out of pride, not offended, but he’s sad for her. What kinds of things could a little girl like her live to be that jaded ? What kinds of things a little girl of six years lived through, for her heart to be so dark? But nothing was lost yet. He spent his times trying to fix in secret the dark acts of others, and exactly in the same way he was now trying to teach her. With a desire for peace and for everyone to be serene, in mind.

“It’s not a question of whether it’s meant to live or not,” he answers, placing his own cat plush on the floor. “Before today, or so I was told, your gift only granted you troubles. But it can be used to good, to help, rather than for sadness."
