It was a good thing that he, specifically, did not say that his son was lucky to have him. He wouldn’t have said this out loud because it would reveal him to be deeply unlikable, but he had lied to his son for years about the nature of his and So-yeon’s time in Seoul, her achievements, their entire lives together. That was unforgivable and yet his son forgave him. Not only forgave him, but tried to understand him, which he didn’t deserve. Moreover, to this day he agreed with what Kang Kyung-ok said even if he was no longer actively beating himself up over it. She was right; the wrong parent was left alive.

To Mu-yeol the ways in which he was lacking were glaringly obvious even if you took away the trauma-fueled lies of omission. So-yeon wouldn’t have fled Korea because she was a fighter. She would have stayed and raised Nemo in his country, in his own culture, and she wouldn’t have had to fight to give him his language and Korean identity. She would have kept their family around him. Most consequential to him was the subject of Nemo’s wing and his relationship to his Talent – would he feel any better about himself if he had his Fast-flying Talent parent to tell him he wasn’t wrong, that his limitations didn’t make him any less important to the Hollow, and that there was nothing shameful about being a Fast-flying Talent that contributed to the Hollow instead as a Performance Talent would? It probably meant little to nothing coming from his father, who was just a Healing Talent, so what would he know about Fast-flying fairies anyway?

Mu-yeol did not want to die anymore. He also thought So-yeon would have done a better job than he ever could have. He did not think these ideas were mutually exclusive.

It was also good that Hatter did not say anything to encourage him to keep talking, as he always did when he was too nervous or too comfortable, because that’s how he knew he was deep into fairy social justice hour which meant he was one step away from communism hour. Which meant now was a great time to shut the fuck up.

“I got to see everyone the December before last,” Mu-yeol said, figuring this was a safe transition. “They visited here of course, I haven’t been home since I was twenty-four. Soon, hopefully. If only to not have to struggle through words with the “th” sound for a couple weeks. It’s okay though, everyone has a glitch in every language they learn, and I have no respect for this hell language anyway.”

He figured he should give Hatter a hint he was at least forty percent joking, so he looked over at him and smiled, laughing a little as he set the mandu on the finished plate.

“Sometimes I play up my accent or just pretend I don’t speak it when I don’t want to deal with a situation. You have to ask yourself as an immigrant; how can I make monolingualism work for me? If the answer to ‘what am I willing to put up with today’ is ‘absolutely not this’ then weaponize their perception of you.”

Hatter did not think Mr. Bae was joking but he also could understand what he meant. English was a language of rules, more rules, and then every single contradiction to those rules. Meaning there weren’t actually any rules and anyone could do whatever they wanted with it. Until they couldn’t...but actually yes they could. If they wanted to.

Hatter also did not think it was his place to laugh when he glanced up to meet Mr. Bae’s eyes to see that, oh, it was said in a way that was not meant to be taken too seriously. He had taken a second language in secondary like the curriculum had asked him to and knew all of nothing when it came to French. The only thing that stuck around were cooking terms. For obvious reasons. Any structure or grammar was lost to him as soon as he dropped out.

Would it be rude of him to laugh too? On a joke he was not clued in on? It was funny. Inside he was adding this to the odd sense of humor Mr. Bae seemed to have. But he didn’t feel comfortable laughing at it either since it felt like he would be laughing at rather than with, as he had no way of being on the inside of that joke. He also didn’t want to make it seem like Mr. Bae couldn’t make those jokes if he wanted to so he...smiled. Was that a good compromise?

He also back tracked to repeat, “Soon? Do plan to move back?”

That was most of the important stuff out of the way, but here are a few other things you may need to know:

I don’t check this blog on a regular basis. I may be very active for a week, and then not come online for a few months. This is as much a personal blog as anything so I don’t have a set upload schedule, I just come on here when I feel like it.

As per the last point: I may sometimes take a while to respond to DMs, asks, and other interactions on Tumblr due to my ADHD and irregular blog activity. This doesn’t mean that I haven’t seen or don’t appreciate them, I just need a little extra time and patience 😊

While my DMs, Asks, post submissions, mentions, etc., may stay open, I am under no obligation to respond to or keep anything that I don’t feel comfortable with. Don’t take this personally or feel hesitant about reaching out! I will take it on myself to filter out any content or interactions that I don’t want appearing on my blog. Am I on any sort of long break or Hiatus?

I am off holidays now and in the 3rd term of my diploma. I won’t be on break again until late September, but I may still come on here from time to time.

Any notable things I am doing with my blog?

I have finished uploading my old drafts and will be making time to go through and retag everything soon.

I have a lot of things that I need to catch up on and a new OC that I may share with you that I created with a group of friends. (See my mutuals @demeterdownunder @altheadajoysoul @pixliidraws)

I am considering uploading some of my WIP T-word fics in the (very far) future.

I have a few things sitting in my notes that I could publish if you guys would like to see those, there's nothing so far I have written specifically for this blog. I am also working on my tickle themed novel! More about that later though!

Am I taking fic writing requests/ prompts?

Not at the moment, but I am definitely considering doing it sometime in the future because it sounds like a lot of fun!

Am I taking commissions?

I am not currently planning on taking commissions any time soon. I don’t really draw or write fics that much to make any money from it. But who knows? It may be a possibility in the future.
