Gant's Utopia
Hey Hey this took a bit longer than expected. Things got a little hectic. An anonymous donor requested a Damon Gant fic from @gtgotcha4gaza
Damon Gant has some musing's on his patrol which gets interrupted by a shout. That shouldn't happen in his city, Crime didn't exist anymore
TW: Cruel giant
Gant's Utopia
Damon Gant was proud of his decision to help the humans. A place where no one acted against the letter of the law. He’d stomped out the worst of the worst for the civilians, literally. It made his patrols easy enough. A duty he wanted to fulfill despite the peace he’d-
“No!”
A scream pulled him from his thoughts. Gant narrowed his eyes and stormed over to the source. The buildings shook with each of his thunderous steps. The shadow of a smirk rested on his face. It had been a while since someone caused a disturbance. He couldn’t stop himself from hoping there might be a little fun to this one.
Gant stood at attention when he reached the scene. A quick scan to gather any information he could. A woman sat on the ground, her terrified eyes were sent his way. He could easily take her stance to be from his own steps, but the young man not far off made him doubt that. He held a purse that clearly didn’t match him. Gant wound up with a full blown smile.
“What’s going on here, ma’am?” He asked as he leaned down for a closer look. He made a point to lean until the buildings audibly groaned. A warning to the criminal in his sights and the rest of the town. They could never forget what it meant to break a law in his city.
“N-nothing, sir!” she squeaked. He frowned when she said that.
“Is that true, young man?”
“Y-yes sir!” he shouted. Gant sighed and shook his head.
“It looks to me like you’re holding this young woman’s purse. She screamed not even a minute ago, still telling me there’s nothing going on?” Gant sighed. It seemed obvious this woman might be trying to protect a petty criminal. He lifted his heel, shifted his foot, and lowered it again slowly. The crunch of metal rang out like music.
“I-I saw a rat, sir!” she screamed. Gant raised a brow at her. “I dropped my purse and the young man was just picking it up for me.”
“A rat?” he said. Gant rubbed his chin in thought.
“Y-yes that’s it! I was just picking it up for her!”
Gant smiled a bit as he stood up straight. A boisterous laugh burst from him, punctuated by the clapping of his hands. As usual, this kind of response shattered windows. The noise and pressure was too much for human made structures. He couldn’t help it when the humans tried to lie to him. It amazed him not a single one caught on that he could smell lies.
When he arrived this city had a seedy underbelly of criminal activity. It was by his own work that they had peaceful lives now. Usually, he’d take any effort to lie to him as an insult. Today he was in a good mood, and appreciated that the two gave him something to laugh about. He put an elbow on one of the buildings and rested his head in his palm.
“Go ahead then, give her back her purse,” Gant said. The young man climbed up to his feet. His whole body was shaking. Gant kept a narrowed gaze as the young man handed the woman her purse.
“Th-thank you,” she said.
“N-no problem,” the young man said.
He stood up straight again, clapped his hands together. “Well, with that settled, we should see to your punishment. Shouldn’t we, young man?”
“Punishment?!” Both of the humans shouted.
Gant smirked. He leaned forward until his shadow had covered the two completely. Slowly, he reached down. The alley the two were in was small. His arm would just barely fit between them. That wasn’t a problem. He forced his arm through, neither of the humans moved. It was a little sad that the would-be criminal didn’t even try to escape.
Just as his fingers reached the young man, he realized what was happening. It was too late to make an escape attempt. Gant pinched the man between two fingers and lifted him from the alley quickly. He had a bit of pride in the way that disoriented the criminals he dealt with. With a small flick of his wrist he dropped the man into his palm and curled his hand into a fist.
“L-lord Gant!” the woman screamed. Gant crouched so he was close enough to see her again. She was shaking, it made sense. She’d been protecting a criminal, even if the crime hadn’t succeeded. “I-it really was-”
“Now ma’am, you wouldn’t want to be caught aiding a criminal would you?” he said. Gant leaned forward. His shadow was all the woman needed to remind her of the power he held.
“I-I… no sir.”
“Good. Don’t worry, clearly this young man just needs to give back a bit.” Gant waved his hand that held the human around a bit. “Do some community service..”
The woman nodded, she understood exactly what he meant. Gant stood up tall and started on his way back to the remnants of the old legal system. It was the best spot for him to stay in the city. No innocent civilian that could be hurt from some mistake he never intended. It even had a cliff with an old apartment building nearby. Another thing he’d repurposed.
Gant dropped the young man in front of the apartment building, took a seat, and cleared his throat. It only took a few seconds for a procession of other humans to walk out of the building. He tilted his chin up slightly as they did. Just enough for his beard to be easy for them to reach.
The term community service wasn’t exactly the best. He served the community so they would serve him. After he felt it was long enough he would, sometimes, let them return to normal law-abiding lives. Plus it was a perfect way to keep an eye on troublemakers. All the humans of his city were aware. No one spoke against it. That had to mean they agreed.
“What’s going on?” he heard the young man ask. Gant waited, someone else knew to explain. This young man was likely from out of town. Came to the city where that old syndicate used to look for kids like him.
“Grab some shears. We have to trim his beard. Lord Gant doesn’t want to look unkempt when he next patrols.”
“I’m not trimming his damn beard! I thought he said community service!”
Gant turned his head down. Narrowed his eyes and sat up tall. He held a single thumb over the young man. He growled, “If you’d rather take a criminal’s punishment, I don’t mind.”
“N-no sir” The young man’s voice was almost so high Gant couldn’t hear it. “I-I’ll do my… my service.”
“Good choice!” Gant laughed as he tilted his head back up and slouched a bit. This was his favorite time of day. Soon enough he’d have a pile of food others brought to offer him. A few civilians would volunteer to shine his shoes too. It was what he deserved.
Damon Gant kept these humans safe from criminals. Used his abilities to help them live safe, fulfilling lives. Put the ne'er do wells to work helping to maintain his beard. The humans should do anything he asked at this point. Maybe even worship the ground he walked on. He was a god that gave them a utopia to live in. One he would continue to maintain until the day he died… he might even look into expanding it. Humans were weak and could use his guidance.

Okay here's my Father's Day thing
Hope it doesn't seem too rushed (it was lol)
Manfred started bringing his younger daughter with him to work from a very young age. Little Franziska would follow along from the prosecutor’s office to the courthouse and all around the city. Every effort was made to accomodate the child of Los Angeles’ most famous prosecutor, with a little desk in his office and a tall chair in the courtroom that allowed her to see above the bench. Manfred would bring her everywhere with him - everywhere aside from one type of place, the most gruesome part of his job.
It wouldn't do to bring a young child to a crime scene, not when the body still lay on the ground, its limbs at awkward angles, an expression of horror still frozen on its face. It wasn't right to show someone so innocent the reality of the job, Manfred knew that. He could tell Franziska about what he did in vague terms - a hero fighting against villains, the triumph over evil in a court of law. But what those villains really did, and the cost of that evil, such things could wait until later. He didn't know when, exactly. But not now.
So when Manfred went to take care of the more grisly side of justice, he left Franziska under the watchful eye of another. His child's impromptu caretaker was a puzzling sort. Manfred would be hesitant to leave something as inconsequential as a drink in his care, knowing that it would be half-empty by the time he returned for it. Yet he knew that the man would guard young Franziska with his life, if need be.
On a Sunday afternoon, after leaving a particularly horrid crime scene behind, he returned to his office. What he saw upon entering wasn't entirely dissimilar to what he just left: two somewhat distraught people, and a sea of red. But this red wasn't blood; trails of crayon scrawled on construction paper were spread across the floor, leading up to the two sitting in the middle of the room. A small object lay between them, in the position of the murder victim.
“What exactly is going on here?” Manfred asked.
“Manny!” Damon Gant looked up from the floor, his grin looking slightly more sheepish than usual. “Sorry about the, er-”
“Papa!” Franziska cried. “Why didn't you tell me you had a holiday?”
Manfred could only make a confused expression before the chief of police interjected with an explanation.
“I…asked her if she was doing anything for Father's Day. Thought she'd say she got you a card or something, not ask me what in the world I was talking about.”
“Mr. Damon Gant told me that today is meant to celebrate fathers. And I haven't done anything for you, not for years! I had to fix that.” Franziska dragged the object beside her into her lap, then hefted it into the air with all the strength a child could muster. “Happy Father's Day, Papa!”
Manfred stared down at the item in her hands. It was familiar - very familiar. A green and gold object that had been sitting in his office for years.
The King of Prosecutors trophy all but belonged to Manfred von Karma. Taking the form of a broken sword and shield with a giant letter ‘K’ in front, it was first awarded to him, then briefly taken back, then awarded to him yet again, beginning a cycle that promised to continue into eternity. Once or twice, it would be given to another prosecutor, but that was less a sign of that individual’s superiority and more an incentive for them to do better. It would always be returned to Manfred the next year, with his name engraved into it yet again. It was the King of Prosecutors trophy, after all - who else could hope to claim that title?
Now, it sat before him, raised up by his younger daughter. It bore a wound of red crayon, marking out the ‘prosecutors’ on the title of the award, and replacing it with a crudely written ‘fathers’.
“...You didn't need to do that,” Manfred said quietly.
“I tried talking her into making a normal card, Manny. Tried making one, even. You can see how well that went.” Damon gestured around him to the scattered pieces of paper. It was unclear from looking at the half finished cards which of the two had worked on them. “But don't worry about your trophy; I'm an expert in cleaning up crime scenes.”
“I don't care about some ridiculous trophy.” Manfred looked at a pouting Franziska, and slowly knelt down beside her. “I meant that you didn't need to do anything for Father's Day. Your studies give you enough to work on, you shouldn't worry yourself with such nonsense.”
“But it's not nonsense, Papa. It's to celebrate you. That's important!”
“My work is important, certainly. What I do is important. That's why I was given this trophy, for what I've done, not who I am.”
“Hmm…” Damon Gant toyed with his hair as he hummed, and Manfred turned to him with a frown.
“What?”
“Well, that trophy there has a bit of symbolism to it. There's an old story about an unbreakable shield and an unstoppable spear, and- the point of it all is that it's a contradiction, you see. And I'm fairly sure I see a contradiction in what you're saying. Do you see it too, Franny?”
Franziska pursed her lips and hummed thoughtfully, seemingly less annoyed by Damon's nicknaming than her father. Finally, her face lit up with a grin. “Got it! You celebrate your birthday, Papa, and that's not for doing anything. So why not celebrate Father’s Day too?”
“Excellent!” Damon clapped his hands together and smiled wide. “I was going to say that being a father requires quite a bit of work, but your point works just as well. And it also raises the question of why I haven't been invited to any birthday celebrations.”
Manfred frowned at the two of them, and shot a glare at the police chief. Their arguments may have been logical, but they still didn't sit right with him. Birthdays were meant for anyone to celebrate the ones they loved - whether they were related by blood didn't matter at all. And being any sort of parent could require effort, but he knew that such efforts weren't always made. If his own father had expected some kind of gift from him, he'd have given it. But it would have been out of obligation and nothing more.
Looking down at Franziska and the heavy trophy she still raised in her little hands, however, Manfred couldn't believe that she defaced it out of any sort of obligation. To her, he was the King of Fathers, and nothing less than a trophy would suffice.
He took it from her and set it aside, then wrapped her in a hug. “Thank you, Franziska. I appreciate it.”
He heard a voice muffled slightly by his jacket, “Happy Father's Day, Papa.”

The Great Dual Substitute Turnabout-even more designs
So as you guys know I just barely started an Ace Attorney fanfic, which I have as of this post now, the first chapter up (which you can read here) (or you can read here)
I made two post showing off some references to character designs for that fic (as I haven’t sketched stuff yet baring two characters so I’m just giving my readers a frame of reference until I do finally have all my sketches up.) (Which you can see both posts from the links I will give here and here.)
Here are some more character design references for the fic.
If you are reading this post before you read my fanfic then here is a basic synopsis of my fanfic. There are two universes that are connected, alternate universes of each other.
One universe based on the canon one: Phoenix Wright is a defense attorney and the boss of the Wright Anything Agency and the universe he comes from takes place shortly after Dual Destines but stuff from Spirit of Justice hasn’t been tackled as of yet (and quite frankly I’m debating if I will tie elements into Spirit of Justice with this fic or just having it deviate into a becoming an alternate universe of it’s own from canon) but for the most part basically from everything Dual Destines and before is all canon in this Ace Attorney universe, the Attorney universe if you will.
The other universe is a very AU universe. A universe where Phoenix instead became a prosecutor. There are very many many MANY differences between this universe and the main attorney one as you will read through the course of the story but I don’t want to spoil anything to big about that universe so I’ll just keep this quick and simple.
Basically our Defense Attorney Phoenix Wright wakes up in the body of the Prosecutor Phoenix and now has to try and live out his life while trying to figure out his mysterious of his universe and try to find a way back home to his universe. Prosecutor Phoenix wakes up in a similar situation except he’s in the main Attorney universe, waking up in good ol’ Attorney Phoenix’s body and has to solve mysteries there and figure out how to live as a defense attorney, be a dad now, all the while trying to find his way back home.
Now here are some more character design references for characters we’ll be seeing in the alternate Prosecutor universe.
First up we have is Misty Fey.
I don’t want to delve too much into the version of her in the Prosecutor universe but just now that Misty is still alive and well. Misty will be seen wearing the same outfit she wore in Trials and Tribulations but I wanted to give her this hairstyle as in this concept art from Trials and Tribulations.
Next we have Larry Butz.
Larry is pretty much the same in the Prosecutor universe. My design for him will be based on this concept art from Spirit of Justice below. Only there won’t be the hat, the silly mustache, or sunglasses. Also the jacket will have no stripes.
Next up we got Damon Gant.
I won’t go too much into the differences between Gant in the Prosecutor universe and the Attorney one. Anways Gant will look just like the concept image below as I love the look, the only real difference is the dress shirt under his jacket will be orange while the cross shaped tie will be a dark gray.
Then we have Kristoph Gavin.
He’ll still be a defense attorney in the Prosecutor universe. Kristoph will still have the same bang style as he does in Apollo Justice, but I wanted to give him a shorter hair look like in the concept art image below.
Also his suit will be based on this concept art of him, with it being his usual color of light purple and I think red for the tie would look good.
Then we have Trucy Enigmar.
I won’t go too much into Trucy here, as I don’t want to spoil stuff but she’s Trucy Enigmar still because Prosecutor Phoenix never met her in his universe. But Trucy while still having the same hair style as in the canon game, her hair will be longer and braided like in the concept art below and her outfit will also be based on the concept art below. The color of the outfit will be predominantly purple with some pink here and there.
Next I have Rhoda Teneiro.
She will still be a flight attendant in this universe. Her outfit will be based on the flight attendant disguise Usagi wears once in Sailor moon, but the colors of the outfit however will be the same as her official outfit in Investigations. Also she’ll still wear the same hat she does in Investigations.
Lastly for the Prosecutor universe designs we have Dahlia Hawthorne.
I actually have a loooot of ideas for Dahlia’s character design here so bare with me.
Dahlia will have her hair styled a bit similarly to the concept art image below except instead of a sort of half side pony tail replace it with a single braid tied off at the side of her hair.
I also love the idea of her having a giant fancy hat but I wanted to give her a hat instead just like the one in this concept art below. The hat will be a light pink color with the feather and ribbon on the top being white.
The dress Dahlia will wear will be based on this sundress I found online (except replace the polka dots with butterflies only more simple, I would kill myself if I attempted to sketch this many butterflies on one dress).
The ribbon, the bow specifically, however tied around her waist will be far larger. Sort of looking almost like a large butterfly in a way. It will be fun to sketch. The dress will be white, the ribbon will be a light pink as well as the butterfly patterns on the dress. She’ll wear the same butterfly sandals she wore in Trials and Tribulations to continue the butterfly theme. (Dahlia will be a lot of fun to sketch haha I can’t wait).
Now I have 2 more designs but these are for 2 characters in the main canon Attorney universe. (as this fic does take place a couple months after the events of Dual Destines)
First we have once again good old Larry Butz.
He will look based on this concept art here again for Spirit of Justice. Except still no silly mustache, no silly sunglasses, and the shirt won’t have polka dots on it. But other than that pretty much exactly what you see below.
Finally we’ll have good old Lotta Hart.
Now Lotta will still have her same crazy afro hair with only a headband on top, but I actually am basing her outfit on these two pokemon npcs from xy/oras.
Lotta will have a shirt just like the one you see below, which will also be black, and she will be wearing a vest except green instead of red.
Now her pants and shoes will be more styled after this npc. The pants will be blue, and her shoes will be green to match her vest.
That’s all for now folks, stay tuned for my eventual sketches when I get to them. Thanks for your support.

(‘▿’ʃʃ a giant swimming pool eats you for your crimes
The waves start out small, small enough that he hardly notices them, but when he does, he is sure they have always been there. It doesn’t look like a normal wave pool, but–who cares!
It’s been so long since he swam. He misses it terribly–misses the smell of chlorine, touching down to the bottom of the pool just barely, the weightlessness. He does lap after lap, and though it’s been years (why years? He can’t remember) he’s barely out of breath.
And the waves get bigger, his head dipping below the surface longer and longer each time. Now he needs to judge whether he can ride out a wave, or dive through it, check each wave to make sure it’s not breaking over his head. They also seem to be getting faster.
DAMON GANT.
A pipe organ plays in the distance. He stops what he’s doing, and looks around, but the waves continue to toss him about.
YOU HAVE FORGED EVIDENCE. YOU HAVE CAUSED…
Is that Toccata and Fugue in D Minor? Do those waves have teeth?
Is that Udgey’s voice?

The water below him drops out, as two massive waves gather on either side, and close over his head. As everything darkens–

He slicks back his hair, addressing his cell mate, who had been awakened by his own yelp. He doesn’t tell his cell mate about the dream, and says the first thing that comes to his mind as an excuse.
“Used to get night terrors as a kid, and thought all that stopped when I got older. Funny how these things can come back, isn’t it!”

Dear Decoy13,
There’s actually only two of us! This is Modthorne. And thank you so much for the praise! It’s really difficult running a giant blog like this, much less with two people and so many responses. We might run into each other if we’re not careful and respond to something twice, or something else. But we do try our hardest.
Co-Mod here, and I’d just like to add one thing: at the time you sent this letter, there was only one moderator (the Mod), but he’s since taken on the two of us, and there’s a chance he’ll still answer a few letters every now and then. He deserves a lot of credit.
Dear Crazyarielxd,
You’re welcome, and thank you for writing letters to help keep the blog going!
I think that Kristoph and Dahlia had a few similar behavior issues -- being two-faced, selfish, unfeeling, etc. -- but when it comes to mental conditions, I’d say Kristoph was far worse off. In fact, I’d say Capcom tried to make him look like a disturbed man from the very beginning. When we first see him, he looks like a calm, intelligent, well-mannered person (he even has a nickname reflecting this):
But in reality, all it takes to disrupt his peaceful visage is for someone to question his character:
This also seems like the best explanation for why the opportunity to become a hero was, ironically, what turned him into a villain. I can understand someone being bitter about not being chosen for something as important as defending a famous magician, but when they start plotting the demise of the person who was chosen and the one who chose them, I feel like there has to be more than bitterness behind it -- especially considering it wasn’t his first time constructing a murder plot.
As for Dahlia, I share pretty much the same opinion as the Mod about her mental state -- she knew what she was doing, and just didn’t care. If I did think her behavior had to do with a mental disorder, I’d probably hate her a lot less. From what I saw, greed and arrogance seemed to be the only motivations behind her actions.
By the way, I hope you weren’t expecting to see any pictures of her. Sorry, but I’m about half sick of seeing those.
But Manfred von Karma’s behavior is even more confusing to me. “Earn me a penalty, will you, Gregory? Well, then I’ll just murder you, steal your son, and raise him to be a ruthless prosecutor like me before having him framed for murder! >Optional evil laughter<” Besides the fact that the motive for his crimes makes him sound like a 65-year-old child, his decision to hold a grudge for so long ended up causing even worse problems for both of his proteges. It makes sense in Edgeworth’s case, since he never cared about him in the first place, but why would he let his own daughter suffer for it? That showed some serious stubbornness on his part.
Since we don’t get much of a backstory for him, I can only assume that he was either taught at an early age that winning cases is the only important goal a prosecutor should have, or he actually cared about justice at some point, but as he kept winning case after case, he let it all go to his head and started only caring about winning. Either way, pride seemed to be the only thing driving him.
And finally, Damon Gant’s motives seemed like a mixture of pride and obsession to me. He knew he was headed for a higher position in the police force, and when he found three unconscious people in his office, he saw it as an opportunity to gain even more power. I do find it strange that he never did anything so extreme before that, which makes me wonder if Capcom just wanted to make him a villain for the sake of thickening the plot. He himself even admitted that he’s better suited for solving crimes than committing them.
I’ve already started seeing a few letters dealing with touchy subjects, and so far there haven’t been any that made me too uncomfortable. There was even one that I was very glad to answer, because it was about something I relate to strongly. Honestly, as long a letter follows the blog’s rules and doesn’t involve something that one of us sees as too offensive or sensitive to be shared online, we’ll do our best to give it an answer. Just keep in mind that neither of us are the ruling authority on topics regarding ethics, psychology, religion, politics, ladders, etc., so we can’t guarantee a satisfactory response. We’ll do our best, though!
(Previous Letter)
Uhhhhh... It’s too bad it’s come back to haunt me the MINUTE I return, ain’t it? I’m, er, gonna have to bite the bullet on this one. Heh heh...
Dear Yessiee!!!!,
(So he can pull himself together when he wants to!)
It’s true that presenting us with different version of the same puzzles could be seen as laziness on the developers’ part, but I’d say it was worth it to see Ms. Belduke’s attempt at a puzzle-solving pose.
I finally reached the end of Layton Brothers yesterday (relative to when I’m typing this), and I think it was a pretty fun game overall. The soundtrack was incredibly engaging (which is often what keeps me coming back to a game), and the carefully-crafted story lines reminded me a lot of the ones found in Ace Attorney -- way more condensed in this case, but still very similar.
My favorite character by far was none other than the cute but courageous Lucy Baker. Her charming optimism and adventurous attitude made her almost like a British Maya Fey in my mind.
“Let’s get going, Prof! Out in t’ wild!”
I know she didn’t actually say that, but that’s the message she conveyed to me at nearly every part of the game. Alfendi became a poor, tired Phoenix there for a moment. Speaking of Al, I wasn’t sure how to feel the first time I met “Potty Prof,” but he sure made the story more intriguing. I kept wondering what he was going to do next, and that made him all the more interesting to watch.
I won’t say who my least favorite was to avoid any spoilers, but when a woman decides to get a new boyfriend days after her husband’s death, it’s hard for me not to at least cringe a little. Oddly enough, there was also a young lady who greatly reminded me of Ms. Hawthorne, but I found it hard to hate her quite as much for some reason. Strange, isn’t it?
Speaking of that character, my favorite case was probably Case 7, where she trapped Lucy in a room and made her solve a case that happened years ago before she’d let her out, without giving kind of explanation for it until the end. I liked all of the cases pretty well, but that one did a good job of building up the mystery.
The gameplay wasn’t that impressive to me, though. I’m okay with having no penalties for guessing the wrong answer, but why does the game constantly tell you to investigate things you’ve already investigated? That just seemed like a pointless way to further the story, in my opinion.
I don’t think I’d put this game above an Ace Attorney game in terms of overall fun to be had, but I did have some good fun watching it, and it’s definitely whetted my appetite for the Professor Layton games. And I pretty much gave up trying to guess who the culprit after Case 3, which did indeed confuse the heck out of me, but I at least got most of the questions right.
Have a good day yourself, and I hope you got the reference at the beginning there.
