i didn't think the guy they cast to play young rio looked that much like manny when they cast him, not in the way the girls who played young beth and young ruby looked like ch and retta. but i had some hope maybe he'd look more like rio in the show, with the way they styled him and all that?? but nope. also, the fact that the owl-eagle hybrid is actually supposed to be a phoenix. how?? it looks nothing like a phoenix. but i guess that can be explained by the fact that it's a prison tat 🙃🤡

Yeah, there was absolutely no resemblance between Marcel and Manny. It was annoying as hell. But I didn't think the other baby characters were particularly well cast either. Jessica Treska looks nothing like Christina and Cayden Boyd looks nothing like Matthew. The biggest issue for me is that with these 3 characters, I felt like the portrayal was all wrong too. The way they spoke and carried themselves was nothing like the adult characters.

The chances of finding a complete doppelganger, who can also act, are slim to none. However, what they can do is find someone who has some similarities in appearance while also nailing the characterisation - if they actually put the work in. They did it with Juliet Donenfeld for young Annie and Gi'onna Kamille for young Ruby. I didn't think these two actresses looked anything like Mae and Retta, but their performances still felt like I was watching Ruby and Annie.
