tell me smth fun abt computer viruses? and/or lost media?

would you like to hear about BOTH??? because if so, do i have a story for you!

so, back in 2006, there was once an official flash music video for a song called "virus alert" (as comedy songs from the 2000s are wont to do). but, it also got a tie-in flash game now somewhat lost to time. i'll get into why later, but first...the plot!

I got the game to play with it a little, and so can you by going here! you play as weird al, who took it upon himself (read: been hired) to rid company-tech of living computer viruses and climb up the corporate ladder. how do you delete viruses (and also fix computers)? by throwing discs at 'em, of course! and that's all there is to it.

so, with that out of the way, why is this considered lost media? well, the game you download from the site is just a demo, and you need an activation code to get the whole game. ...and the only way to get an activation code (until recently) was to pay left brain games for one, which you can't really do anymore for obvious reasons. but not all hope was lost!

around (as of the time i'm making this post) six months ago, eientei found a working code and posted it to the shockwave discord, which was then posted to the comment section of a reddit post looking for the full game by u/Paulocas2009. alas, there's still barely any footage of the gameplay (most of which is for the demo), which is why i still call it "somewhat lost to time".

My roommate's cat, an 11 month tortoise shell kitty named sookie, is so silly goofy. She runs from window to window all day staring at the birds. Also! Her fave food is hard tacos from taco bell. We didn't learn that by choice T-T. Here's some pictures of the kitty criminal.

“I had left with you, but my mind was still in the bar. I watched us slink away — me, with my hands too big for my pockets and you with your mouth too dry. And as someone else took our place, I would sigh, almost relieved. A table wiped clean to seat long breaths and hidden laughter, stared that last a touch too long. Painted eyelashes and lips to knuckles. My teeth began to chatter, from the cold of the outside calling me back. Frozen and locked, not by a lack of courage or the falling of snow, but by not knowing what to say, a lack of all instinct. Any joke I could’ve made landed like a stone in my chest. Kissed knuckles felt like a spear through the ice, sounding like faint pub music playing against dimmed lights. They’d flicker in there, perfect and happy.

All I had? Shed tears in empty hallways, concerned shopkeepers. A hope that you hadn’t seen. A long train ride home to the comfort of myself, where nothing can be this nauseating.

The lights and music would dim still further. Five empty glasses between the two of them. They could heat up the entire block with a glance, with a thought. the next round was on him, and a touch on the shoulder makes the music sweeter.

I couldn’t have known that one was made for roses, the other for thorns. One was vibrant red, and the other the dark folds in between, that does little but make the red stand all the more stark. I couldn’t have known that all that waited in the bar was a chill as I left and the warmth of someone taking my place. Whispers of foolishness struck me, but all that remained in my mind was pub music, and a sad smile.”
