Shouta slaps a hand over his mouth. That’s wrong too, the fingers are longer than they should be, the skin softer and less calloused. And though his mind is screaming at him that it can’t be, that it’s impossible, he knows what has to have happened. The worried expression on the man before him is as familiar as the face he wears. He’s telling the truth, he’s Hizashi. And that must mean-

Hizashi's New Year's confession doesn't go quite as planned, but in the end it's all worth it anyway.

“What...are you doing?” Shouta demands breathlessly, eyes wide, fingers pressed to his mouth as if he’d been burned.

“I…” Hizashi stammers, blind panic rising in his chest, “Shouta, I’m sorry, I just…you know how you’re supposed to kiss someone at midnight on a New Year’s Eve, right? It’s just a tradition, a stupid joke. I didn’t mean to—”

He’d never been a good liar.

“No, please!” Hizashi said, more seriously, “I didn’t expect them to track me down so fast. I need a place to wait out the night.”

Shouta sighed. “It’s… not a good idea.”

“Why not?” Hizashi narrowed his eyes stubbornly. Shouta willed himself not to find it cute.

“Because I am a vampire,” Shouta said, slowly. “And I kind of want to eat you.”

“Shouta...” Hizashi whispers against the nape of his neck, voice laced with concern, bordering on panic. “Are you in pain? Did I—”

At first, Shouta remains quiet, briefly considers his next words, but after 15 years of carefully avoiding the truth, he can’t seem to bring himself to feed Hizashi off with yet another blatant lie.

“Not the kind of pain that you can fix for me.”

“What are you, scared, Aizawa?” Kayama leered, leaning in too close and poking at his side.

Shouta swatted her hand away. “Why would I be scared?” he scoffed. “They’re just mirrors.”

Hizashi fidgeted, leaning closer in a way that would be imperceptible if Shouta weren’t ridiculously over-aware of him. “The place looked deserted when we came in… maybe we should leave? We could still make it to the party!”

“We can’t leave without solving the maze,” Shouta said, irritably.

Hard to Get by aizawashouta

It’s such a small touch, insignificant to Shouta, who is already leading the way to the park’s entrance without looking back, yet it leaves Hizashi reeling like a fool.

Crushes, he can practically hear Nemuri’s voice chuckle in the back of his head, make people idiots.

As it turns out, she hadn’t been too far off the mark.
