Dome Design (Qutub Complex) Four noteworthy Sultans of Slave Dynasty (Mamluk Dynasty) Pt 3 4: Ghiyas-ud-din Balban (1266 – 1287 AD) Ghiyas-ud-din was the ninth Sultan of Mamluk Dynasty. He ruled with an iron fist. Balban reformed civil and military lines earned a stable and prosperous government, granting him the position alongside Iltutmish and later Alau'd-Din-Khalji, as one of the most powerful rulers of Delhi Sultanate. Balban broke up the 'Chahalgani' a group of forty most powerful and influential nobels in the court. He set up the first well-organized intelligence system, he set up espionage system to make sure all officials are loyal to the crown. He had spies to inform on his officials. In his court even the officials were punished for being unfair to their slaves. Balban re-organised the military against the threat of mongols, and also re-organised the revenue of Iqatadars (lands distribution between nobels, officers and soldiers.
