“I clicked this picture in 1946 from a box camera which my dad had gifted me. This is Ghanta Ghar, which used to stand at the center of Chandni Chowk and was visible from my terrace at Mori Gate. I still can't forget the day when the entire tower was lit up on the occasion of independence and the British flag was replaced by our Tiranga. I used to watch pigeons flying across the tower or just resting on its clock hands until it eventually collapsed in 1950. I was a student during that time. One fine afternoon, I was walking up and down between the second floor and terrace of my house with a book in hand. I was memorising my syllabus for the science practicals to be held on the next day. Suddenly, I saw the top of the tower collapsing in front of my eyes. I tried to quickly run towards the tower to have a final look, but my mother caught hold of my arm and didn't let me go anywhere close to it. That was a really sad moment for me."
