Crocs are the worst thing that could have happened to clogs/wooden shoes

This is perhaps the Dutchest post I have ever made, but I have a lot of opinions and thoughts about this and I just have to share them somewhere, hoping anyone will listen.

Now, we all know what crocs are and what clogs (or wooden shoes, but I'm using clogs bc it's closer to klompen, the Dutch word) are, but just to show how similar they are, here are two pictures side by side.

Now it's obvious that they have the same shape and easy on and off that mark crocs. And I hear you say: 'But Remi, crocs are way more comfortable than clogs, not to mention more widely available.'

And yes, you would be correct, however, that is because traditional clogs don't have the reach and marketability of crocs. You see, clogs were made perfectly to size and then you'd try them on and if they were uncomfortable somewhere, they would be modified. On a large scale this is not really feasible, since everything must be produced on a large scale and custom shoes are expensive and shoe makers who know how to do this are rare.

However! These are traditional clogs and modern clogs do exist (wow, we evolved, funnn). And that's a whole different story. See the example below:

As you can see these are also very similar to the croc design (which I am stil convince they used as blueprint). But, these are made from leather with a wooden sole, they also don't have holes in them and are thus water proof.

Like why would anyone buy crocs? They're easy to put on sure, but they don't have any of the things that make clogs great, like the fact that they're water proof and are made of things that are not plastic, but will mostly decay in nature.

Not to mention that they're more stylish and functional. These are made to do farm work on. I have a pair, my mom and dad do, my cousin has them as does my grandfather. (I reccoment the brand Gevavi as pictured above, they're comfy and good quality if you're interested.

Clogs are functional and comfortable. And fit in into aesthetics like cottage core or just lazy core. They can even be a bit preppy if you want.

All in all, 11/10, way better thatn crocs, but crocs have taken over the market and now clogs are disappearing in favor of them, even here in the Netherlands and I think that's so sad.

Clogs deserve better!
