complaints about this game's portuguese dub aside, goddamn this game is so fucking cool right out of the bat 😭😭
the reveal of the intro is really fun, and playing without an objective marker is making this into a low key Metroidvania, I'm really looking forward to playing more and seeing how well it holds itself until the end of the game

The Complete Official Pibby Timeline (So Far)
Tumblr media
Hey guys, this is iDuckFilms. If you're in the Pibby fandom, you may know me from Twitter, but I decided to explore some backup options in case Twitter really does crash and burn like people are fearing. Plus I've been toying around with the idea of experimenting with other types of posts for a while. So I might as well start by creating a master list of everything that's canon to Pibby so far. There are a lot of things that are commonly mistaken for canon but aren't, but I figured it would be easier to list what is canon to make it easier to keep track.
October 30th 2021 - Come and Learn with Pibby Trailer/Pilot
youtube
The one that started it all. This was dropped onto Adult Swim's YouTube channel purposefully without any sort of promotion, though creator Dodge Greenley promoted it on his Instagram as "the trailer for [his] show", indicating that he intended it to be the trailer/pilot for a series. It immediately gets viral attention, first from the cartoon community and then snowballing out into the mainstream.
Tumblr media
October 30th 2021 (actual date circa 2020) - The Casting Call
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soon, an anonymous 4chan user would leak several pages of a casting call for Pibby, revealing additional information about the characters. The user revealed that they auditioned for a role in the pilot, and that they left out several pages to make it harder for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim to track the leaker down.
October 30th 2021 (actual date circa 2020) - The Demo Reel
Soon, fans uncovered a demo reel originally posted on Soundcloud in 2020 by an actor who read for Bun Bun and Beta Kid. It used the same artwork as the leaked casting call, revealing the lines for Bun Bun and Beta Kid in the casting call and confirming both leaks to be real.
(To this date, no records of Pibby or Melira's lines from the casting call have surfaced)
November 5, 2021 - The Official Credits
Dodge Greenley would soon reveal the official credits of the Pibby pilot on his Instagram. This would confirm Melira's name, therefore confirming both leaks once again, but also reveal that Beta Kid's name had been changed to Alloy Boy during production.
Tumblr media
April 1, 2022 - The April Fools Broadcast
youtube
After 6 months of no news, Adult Swim surprised fans with a two hour long broadcast consisting of episodes of other Adult Swim shows with Pibby, Bun Bun, and various glitches edited into them. Almost all the animation of them created for this broadcast was new, and it featured slight redesigns of the characters and the Darkness, including different palettes and a more Atari-like glitch. This was accompanied by a "Lost Bunny" poster of Bun Bun and several billboards in Los Angeles and Atlanta featuring Pibby and Bun Bun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this, there would be no major Pibby news. However, there is still one surprisingly major thing left to cover
November 15, 2022 - Pibby wins a CLIO Award
This is the latest official Pibby update. For those who don't know, the CLIO Awards are a prestigious award ceremony dedicated to celebrating the best ad campaigns. Shockingly, Pibby won several of these awards, including a Grand Prize. As their submission for the CLIO Awards, Adult Swim created a video going over the history of Pibby so far and, surprisingly, featuring many posts from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, and r/Pibby, including posts from my Twitter account and for some reason various Elsagate videos created by the infamous YouTube Kids channel Among Us Stop Motion. This shows that Adult Swim has been keeping tabs on the Pibby fandom, and that support from Pibby fans matters in getting the show greenlit. The video also ends with acknowledgement that Pibby fans want more content, and the cryptic line "The legend of Pibby continues". Only time will tell if this means anything.

Billboard Taylor Swift's 2017: The Timeline 12/18/2017 by Allison Stubblebine From the record-breaking 'Reputation' to speaking out against sexual assault, Swift continued to change culture in 2017. Taylor Swift didn't do a lot in 2017... until she did. Following months spent attempting to fly under the radar, and the Instagram blackout of Aug. 2017, Swift took the rest of the year by storm, with a not-so-traditional album rollout for Reputation and a series of larger than life visuals to accompany the first singles. Fans got a sneak preview at what was to come from her personally curated Secret Sessions, but those were hidden away from the lens of the media. Now that Reputation is here to stay, Billboard has taken a look back at Swift's action packed year. Jan. 27 - “I Don’t Want to Live Forever” music video release Swift kicked off the New Year with the release of the visuals to Fifty Shades Darker track “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” Swift and former 1D artist Zayn trashed a hotel room for the video, lit by flashing shades of blue and red. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Feb. 4 2017 - Taylor Swift plays “only show of 2017” Swift broke some disappointing news to fans during her pre-Super Bowl set for DIRECTV Now Super Saturday Night. "I have to be really honest with you about something: As far as I know, I'm doing one show in 2017. And as far as I know, this is that one show," Swift said long before the announcement of Reputation. She added, “You're the crowd in my most recent daydreams, when I'm thinking about being onstage, so I was wondering: If you don't feel like dancing for yourself or screaming for yourself, you don't feel in the mood or whatever, you're like stressed out, would you do it for me tonight?" Feb. 15-16 - TAS Rights Management, LLC filed nine separate trademarks for “Swifties” Swift’s brand nailed down the things most true to her: Swifties. Nine separate trademarks were filed for the word alone, including one involving “a website featuring non-downloadable audio recordings [and] video recordings.” The idea that Swift would launch her own streaming service was debunked. Mar. 2 - Ed Sheeran teases Swift’s upcoming album The singer revealed that his pal would be putting her music out quite late on in the year, saying, “Taylor [Swift] isn’t going to be releasing until probably the end of this year—Christmas is the smartest time to release because that’s when everyone buys records.” Looks like he was right. Mar. 10 - Man arrested for stalking/burglary inside Swift’s apartment building A man was arrested in Swift’s New York City building on charges of burglary, stalking, and trespassing. According to a Page Six report, the man allegedly hoped to meet the singer face-to-face. While the man was initially held on $20,000 bail, he was found unfit to stand trial and reportedly “placed in the custody of the New York State Office of Mental Health” as of late September. April 4 - “Busy working” on new album in Nashville After the singer had been spotted driving around Nashville, a source confirmed to ET that she’d come “to get away from the paparazzi,” and also that she had “been busy working on her upcoming album.” May 15 - She’s really in Nashville! Swift celebrates Mother’s Day at home with her mom TMZ did the heavy digging and proved that Swift really had been in Nashville - though she may have been hopping back and forth, as she was spotted getting onto her private jet after a spending the weekend with mama Swift for Mother’s Day. July 4 - Keeping it low-key for the first time in years on the Fourth of July Paparazzi were very upset that Swift didn’t have an Independence day blowout tailor-made for media, even though she'd been keeping a relatively low profile all year. Aug. 14 - $1 Countersuit Win The long-drawn-out legal battle between DJ David Mueller, who was accused of reaching under the pop star’s skirt to grope her during a photo shoot in 2013, was finally put to rest. After Mueller attempted to countersue for damages that occurred following Swift’s accusation (which was quietly made to the station, who promptly let him go), the singer was awarded a single symbolic dollar in damages. Swift’s attorney Douglas Baldridge explained the value, “It means no means no, and it tells every woman that they will determine what is tolerated with their body." Aug. 18-20 - Bye bye, old Taylor… and old posts In the internet-breaking fashion Swift seems to have perfected, the singer’s social media accounts went into full blackout mode. No old posts were to be found anywhere, signaling that she was gearing up to launch something huge. Aug. 21 - She’s back, but only with some snakes In one of the best social media moments of the year, Swift posted a three-part series of glitch-y snake videos without captions to her Instagram to break her short-lived blackout. The image of the snake had become synonymous with Swift’s internet-meme identity, following the drawn-out beef with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West regarding West’s “Famous” lyrics and video. Aug. 23 - It’s an album! After five days (AKA an eternity in Swiftie time), Swift revealed the project behind the social media madness. Continuing in the three-part posting style, Swift announced “FIRST SINGLE OUT TOMORROW NIGHT,” posted the cover art, and announced the release date for then-upcoming album Reputation. All posts were still caption-less. Aug. 24 - Look what you made her do. Swift released Reputation’s lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” with a clever caption on Instagram: “..ready for it? New single #LookWhatYouMadeMeDo out now.” Of course, the forthcoming track title remained an inside joke to the singer’s team upon posting time. Aug. 27 - Look what you made her do, part two. The singer premiered the visuals for “LWYMMD” at the 2017 MTV VMAs, snagging 43.2 million views in the first 24 hours alone, now standing with over 783 million views. The Joseph Kahn-directed visual is loaded with references to the “old Taylor,” including a tombstone for Nils Sjoberg, her songwriting pseudonym on ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris’ 2016 hit “This Is What You Came For,” nearly all of her most iconic outfits, more snakes, and nearly all her besties’ names scribbled on a new version of her “You Belong With Me” music video costume. Sept. 3 - “…Ready for It?” released Swift released the second track off Reputation after she previewed it on Saturday Night Football the night prior. It followed suit with the darker, much more dramatic new Taylor, yet gave no clearer picture of what was yet to come. Sept. 5 - No. 1, again Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" tops the Billboard Hot 100, where it would reign for three weeks. The song was her fifth Hot 100 No. 1 and broke the weekly streaming record for a song by a woman; it also stopped the record-tying 16-week reign of "Despacito." Sept. 7 - TayTay On Demand Ever wanted to know what Swift is up to at any given moment? Well this isn’t exactly that, but the trailer jokes that it will be. Swift announced her new video-on-demand channel in partnership with AT&T and DirectTV called Taylor Swift NOW, accompanied by a hilarious play-by-play of Swift’s day in the studio (complete with Andy Samberg cameo). Oct. 11 - The Swift Life app announced Stans will finally have a one-stop-shop for finding out everything there is to know about their fave singer. It is said to function as a social network of sorts, leaning into Swift’s hobby of “lurking” and replying to fans on social media, and also offering an opportunity to “collect Taymojis, stickers, pics, and more.” Oct. 20 - “Gorgeous” released The predictable yet addicting pop track the world was waiting for finally arrived. Swift sang of a romantic interest that was somehow too gorgeous for even a superstar like her to talk to. James Reynolds, two-year-old daughter of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, was later officially credited in album liner notes as the voice at the beginning of the track. Oct. 27 - “…Ready for it?” returns with visuals The fans surely weren’t ready for it, yet with the Joseph Kahn directed video packed with hidden messages, it wasn’t long before Swifties decoded them all. Among the most obvious are Swift’s birth year spray-painted on a wall, the Chinese characters for “Year of the Snake,” as well as a similar lightning strike in the intro to Calvin Harris’ “This is What You Came For” album art. Nov. 2 - “Call It What You Want” lyric video released Fans started to get a fuller picture of what was coming from Reputation in just over a week. Swift seemed to be finding her way to happiness in the first ballad to be released from the album, but she was still attempting to rid herself of the drama she’d endured. The day was special for more than one reason, coinciding with the 13th anniversary (Swift’s lucky number) of meeting Scott Borchetta, the Big Machine Records executive who signed her and gave her the fateful big break. Nov. 7 - Track list revealed on Swift’s Instagram Account Three days prior to the Reputation release date, Swift posted the back cover to the album, featuring the track listing. Nov. 8 - CMA Win Even though she's left country in the dust on her own albums, Swift's song for Little Big Town, "Better Man," nabbed song of the year at the 2017 CMAs. Nov. 9 - The album was leaked, and this is why we can’t have nice things In this day and age, so many albums leak prior to release date, but not quite in this fashion: missing from the leaked files was track no. 13, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.” Whether it was at the hands of Swift’s team, Swift herself, or a sneaky fan, it was quite the clever move. On the same day, an intimate recording “New Years Day” from what looks like a secret session was premiered on ABC during an episode of Scandal. Nov. 10 - Reputation is out everywhere, except for streaming services Reputation hit shelves and online retailers; a Target exclusive version included a magazine with poems and photos from Swift. She announced 20 days later that Reputation would be available to stream at midnight on Dec. 1. Nov. 11 - SNL Swift plays Saturday Night Live, busting out "...Ready for It?" and an acoustic "Call It What You Want." Nov. 13 - Tonight Show Following the death of Jimmy Fallon's mother, Taylor Swift agreed to appear on The Tonight Show to play a moving version of "New Year's Day." Nov. 20 - Reputation Is No. 1 Swift's Reputation becomes her fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. Reputation notched 2017’s biggest week for an album, as the set earned 1.238 million equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 16, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 1.216 million were in traditional album sales -- the largest sales frame for an album since 2015. It would hold the No. 1 spot for three weeks. Nov. 28 - Grammy Time The Taylor Swift-penned "Better Man" from Little Big Town is nominated for best country song -- which is a songwriter(s) award, so Swift will get a trophy if it wins. She's also nominated for best song written for visual media for her Zayn collab "I Don't Want to Live Forever." Dec. 1 - Taylors In the Stream Reputation appears on the major streaming services. Dec. 4 2017 - Reputation, but make it fashion (UK Vogue cover) Vogue UK revealed its first cover of the new year would feature Swift. Newly appointed Editor in Chief Edward Enninful styled the singer during his second cover after taking the reigns from Alexandra Shulman. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, also photographers for all Reputation visuals, shot the twelve-page spread. Two days later, the high fashion mag revealed a poem Swift wrote exclusively to run with the feature, titled, "The Trick to Holding On." Dec. 6 2017 - Swift is one of Time’s “Silence Breakers” Her summer court case was not meant to be a media spectacle, but it was meant to prove a point with the symbolic $1 request. As Time gave the platform to “The Silence Breakers,” women who helped bring sexual assault and harassment to the forefront of the national conversation, as its 2017 Person of the Year, Swift was among the individuals highlighted. The Time interview is the first time Swift has done press about the court case, and in it she detailed reaching out to Kesha for support, as well as her feelings as she sat in the courtroom. "I was angry. In that moment, I decided to forego any courtroom formalities and just answer the questions the way it happened,” Swift said. “This man hadn’t considered any formalities when he assaulted me, and his lawyer didn’t hold back on my mom -- why should I be polite? I’m told it was the most amount of times the word 'ass' has ever been said in Colorado Federal Court." Dec. 8 2017 - Swift Plays iHeartRadio’s Z100 Jingle Ball in NYC The pre-Super Bowl performance wasn’t her only concert of 2017, after all. Camila Cabello and Lindsay Lohan were Swift’s biggest fans at the show, posting videos dancing the night away to various social media platforms. Dec. 11 - Reputation Continues to Be Big Swift earned her 55th Hot 100 hit with Reputation album track "End Game," featuring rapping from Future, Ed Sheeran and herself. Dec. 13 - B'Day & Tix While some fans were able to buy tickets in advance, the general public tickets for Swift's Reputation Tour went on sale Dec. 13, 2017 -- not coincidentally her 28th birthday. She released a tour trailer to celebrate. Dec. 14 - Still Getting 'Ready' Swift dropped a lyric video for BloodPop's bouncy remix of "...Ready for It?"

That tendency must break. This done here CS:GO as it would truly assemble the hitboxes larger, in Fortnite, go on the new game engine, that right smushes the character model down. Any perceived effect it has at your chance to perform is a placebo. The builder can look at respect in Fortnite's steps and insert new, limited-time game functions that play with the BR formula, or perhaps map-changing ingredients to keep the game environment light. Or Respawn may result PUBG and create another, smaller charts with something else server dimensions to associate things up.

James White is an amazing person and player, and I hope he ruins this Super Bowl
Tumblr media
James White is an amazing person and player, and I hope he ruins this Super Bowl.
I’m so sick of the Patriots that even rooting against the Patriots feels tired.
As soon as the Patriots came to be an evil empire, America has squeezed all it could out of the Super Bowl by banding together to root against them. It’s been a blast to see them toppled by the Giants and Eagles. It’s been infuriating to see the Falcons and Seahawks and also Eagles fall short. If we couldn’t get a fresh face from the AFC in the game, at least we got to engage in a bit of mindless hate. What fun!
But now the anger synapses have burnt out. Who cares if the Rams win or lose, we’ll probably still be on this ride a year from now. And whether he wins or loses, Tom Brady’s dumb face has only ever remained Tom Brady’s dumb face. He is smug, immutable, and immune to my outrage, or really anything that doesn’t impede his quest for Nirvanic Pliability.
So screw the Patriots, screw the Rams, and screw this game. There is only one pure thing left on the field: a relatively tiny man who holds the potential to turn this game into a real life episode of Breaking Madden; a man who has made his career out of being a glitch in the system, who has the potential to make this game a weird, hilarious mess.
I want to see James White catch 30 passes for 300 yards.
He was well on his way against the Chargers when he caught five passes on the Patriots’ opening touchdown drive alone. That’s five touches in the Pats’ first 14 plays, which would have added up to roughly 28 receptions across their 78 offensive plays for the game. The idea tickled me silly: What if the Patriots really just threw dump passes all game, while the Chargers sat back, waiting for some wrinkle or deep pass that was sure to come — surely this time — only for Brady to check down to White for another 8- to 12-yard gain to move the sticks.
My esteemed colleague Stephen White described the feeling of stopping White thusly:
Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski will still see a lot of the downfield passes, but don’t sleep on how important James White has been to the passing game. When it’s third-and-medium, White always seems to find a way to get open underneath, often short of the sticks, and then get just enough yardage for the first down.
Few things must be more frustrating for a defense than covering well down the field, only to have a dump-off to White move the sticks on them.
Like a spam attack in a fighting game, or a play action pass in NCAA Football circa 2005, the move would have made the Chargers feel helpless. The game would have devolved into a form of torture for them and for the viewer. Four hours of dada madness. That’s not the game we got in the Divisional round, but maybe that’s OK, because maybe that’s exactly the type of game this Super Bowl deserves.
We know the Patriots are capable of it, too. Their only true tendency over the years of so much offensive success is their ability to needle an opponent’s weak point until the whole team caves. Brady is the king of rifling through his progressions, which means he’s the king of checkdowns. He’ll take free yardage for as long as you give it to him, a fact that White proves.
White finished with 15 receptions against the Chargers. Not 30, unfortunately, but still a healthy sum — in fact, he tied the record for the most receptions ever in a playoff game. He’s also the only NFL player to ever record at least 14 receptions in a playoff game twice. In the Patriots’ comeback from a 28-3 deficit against the Falcons in 2017, he arguably deserved Super Bowl MVP honors over Brady. He caught 14 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, and added another 29 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, one of which won the game in overtime. He was so brilliant, even Brady was ready to give up his award.
And perhaps the best part about White obliterating the NFL record for the most receptions in a game by 10 is that you could reasonably enjoy it. He’s a classic too-small, too-slow player who did everything right to make it to the highest level of his profession. Brady and Belichick talk about him like a favorite son. Pats media members gave him a Good Guy Award. Before the season, Pats players named him a captain.
All that, despite never having been a lead back going back to high school. At St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, he shared a backfield with Giovani Bernard, who was a more highly regarded recruit in the class of 2010. White landed at Wisconsin, where he played behind Montee Ball, a Heisman finalist, and Melvin Gordon, a future first round pick, and still managed to rack up more than 4,000 yards rushing over a four-year career.
He has always been the consummate gadget back — ridiculously nifty and maneuverable in tight space (his Twitter handle is @SweetFeet_White) with hands like a wide receiver. His job was to make defenses pay for forgetting about him, and he did it incredibly well.
youtube
Naturally, he was overlooked in the NFL draft, falling to the fourth round behind 12 other running backs. Naturally, it was the Patriots who uncovered a diamond. And naturally, despite how important he is to the Patriots, he still isn’t the lead back — rookie Sony Michel has had 216 touches this season to White’s 181.
Point being, White is a great person in addition to being singularly suited for the job of turning the Super Bowl you don’t want to watch into a work of post-apocalyptic science fiction.
Thirty receptions for 300 yards. Brady chucking passes to a swinging White out of the backfield. White making one guy miss and falling over for a first down and more, over and over and over. A Rams defense that can account for anything failing to stop a man who has perhaps never been properly accounted for in his life.
Yes the Patriots would probably win another Super Bowl, but do you really care about that at this point? They’ll probably win three more before Brady retires. Life is pain, Eat Arby’s, etc., ad inf.
The Patriots have already ruined football. At least let a nice guy drive the final stake.

Constraints Journal: Robert Rodriguez Sold His Body To Science for $7000 To Fund His First Film That Cost Him $7000
Tumblr media
Discipline: Filmmaking
John Carpenter’s Escape from New York left a lasting impression on the young Robert Rodriguez. After watching it, he knew he wanted to become a filmmaker. In school, he would make pencil sketch animations of stick figures in his notebooks to impress his friends in class. This got him thinking about using claymation to create animations as a way to explore motion further. Claymation was a way of moviemaking that Rodriguez thought as within reach for him as a youngster. He could endlessly tinker and not have to rely on actors and hone his skills.
Rodriguez and his friends found the family’s Super 8 camera. They'd shoot a roll of film that cost them $5 and would subsequently pay $7 to get it developed only to come back with unimpressive results. As a 13-year-old kid, it was discouraging in addition to being expensive. In 1979 His first breakthrough came when his father purchased a four head JVC cassette recorder which he took over for his own creative use. He’d make short movies, edit entirely in camera and lay a music track on top of it once edits were complete. An impressive accomplishment pre-digital recording days. Rodriguez would shoot anything around him. Family events, goings on in the household and make mini Kung Fu movies with his friends. Using the JVC was a breakthrough in terms of cost as compared to the Super 8. He could now buy one cassette and get 2 hours of erasable content with sound. His father made the mistake of purchasing a second JVC recorder. Rodriguez would co-opt this camera too. He’d shoot the raw footage in one camera while editing in the other. The critical constraint here is that an edit would have to be completed in 5 minutes. If the JVC camera’s pause button were on for more than 5 minutes, the camera would automatically switch off and cause a glitch in the footage. This is how Rodriguez would edit movies from the age of 13 to 23 (1).
The young Rodriguez wanted to attend college UT-Austin as it was the closest college to him with a film program. Initially accepted into UT-Austin, there were additional hurdles to jump to get into the film program. Students were required to take a variety of courses unrelated to film in the sciences and maintain a high GPA. Rodriguez who couldn’t do anything but make movies found it extremely difficult to focus any of his energy on mastering subjects that didn’t involve visual storytelling. He knew how critical it was to pass the courses with high grades, but he couldn’t compete with the academic types. Denied entry into the film program due to his low grade-point average, his observation during this time was there were a lot of great academics who made it into the program that made horrible films. Around the same time Rodriguez was applying to the program he made the short film “Bedhead” and entered Austin’s Third Coast Film and Video Festival winning the 1st place prize. He showed the movie to the professor of UT-Austin's Film Production 1 course and asked he if could get in despite his grades. Since he beat out notable existing Film School candidates that were already part of the program the professor let him in (2).
Rodriguez’s most ambitious project came when he met up with his friend Carlos on a shoot for a Spanish film. Rodriguez moonlit on set shooting behind the scenes footage in Carlos' hometown of Ciudad Acuña, Mexico (3). They would frequently go to Acuna during breaks and shoot in the streets. Acuna would become the location of his next film. The idea was he'd be able to make the film without a traditional crew doing most of the work himself. Rodriguez also wanted to test script ideas. The key insight that inspired him to do this came from his former photo lab boss.  The knowledge imparted on the young Rodriguez was anyone can become technical, but not everyone can be creative. And if you’re creative and technical, you’re unstoppable. Rodriguez created a scenario where he could write and shoot at the same time to put the scripts to the test. There'd be no sense in waiting for an entire script to be finished to find out whether or not it would work on screen. To hedge his bets he'd be writing two scripts versus having to re-write and polish one script. To test the scripts, he'd create movies for the Spanish home video market to see if one film sold better than the other as a split test. He was way ahead of his time by putting content through an a/b test which is commonplace online today. No one in Hollywood would see these films so it wouldn’t matter if they flopped. Not only would he learn what worked he could also get paid for doing the tests from the sales of the direct to video market (4).
Although Rodriguez was aiming to create really low budget flicks as a student, he still needed time and some capital to produce them. There was no way he could pull this off with his current two part-time jobs. His solution? Selling his body to big pharma for drug testing with Pharmaco. Rodriguez would participate in two separate drug trials that lasted a month each. This included room and board, getting paid for participating in the tests plus provide the time to write his scripts without interruption from friends and family. He would go through two rounds of tests earning $7000 he’d use to fund his 1st film (5).
He knew he had to make the $7000 work and be careful the way he spent it. In his words, you’re more cautious with your own money than someone else’s. He found many ingenious ways to make the film not look low budget with the money he had. Rodriguez noticed lower budget films all looked like they were shot in one room or a tiny studio. Shooting in the streets outside would automatically make it look more substantial than an art school project shot in a bedroom. In Acuna, Mexico they could shoot in the street with little interference. The townspeople were used to seeing Rodriguez and his friend Carlos running around the streets with cameras, so they had no issue with it or no longer noticed. Everything they needed to shoot was within a 2-3 block radius. As this was Carlos’ hometown, they were able to co-opt locations that his family owned like his mother’s ranch. Other clever moves included talking the chief of police into letting them borrow uzis (filling them with blanks) and shooting scenes at the local police station (6). They did this 1st thing in the morning so the police could get back to work. Rodriguez's actors doubled as his film crew. And since he didn’t have a big crew, he didn’t need to storyboard every scene. Shooting and editing the film himself, he knew the shots he wanted to reduce time in edit. Rodriguez kept the camera rolling when mistakes happened as he knew exactly how he’d edit them out. They tested a lot of the stunt props in his friend's backyard before setting them up in the streets. For example, they made a makeshift a zip line with a $12 pulley they bought from a local hardware store. It would later be used in the film's escape scene. All of the scenes, stunts, and experiments would eventually become the film El Mariachi (7).
After filming was complete, Rodriguez would go on to do marathon thirteen-hour editing sessions with his JVC camcorder after he had all the raw footage transferred. While doing some of his edits at a public access station someone from the Texas Film Commission saw his work. He invited him to the 20th anniversary of the Texas Film Commission where they hosted Hollywood producers and showed demo tapes from local Texas talent. He gave him a list of names of people he should meet including the agent Robert Newman over at the talent agency ICM. The event would fall through, but he encouraged him to call Robert Newman anyway (8).
Rodriguez would drive out LA with his friend Carlos and shop the film to numerous Spanish video outlets. It was going so poorly that they thought they would have to stay in LA pitching for a few months. Low on funds, they were on the one meal a day plan. The one lousy cheeseburger a day diet. During this time he did manage to reach the agent Robert Newman, and Newman asked for a copy of the film. After seeing El Mariachi, Newman wanted to sign Rodriguez and represent him. With excitement, he told him, "I look forward to working with you Robert we are going to make a lot of money together." This is where things really took off. The tape spread like wildfire throughout ICM and Rodriguez would have meetings with Columbia, Disney, Tristar, and Paramount. They were shocked that the film was made for such a small sum. At the same time, he was shocked by the amount of traction he was getting. Rodriguez tried to keep a level head during this time. He thought if things fell through, "At least I'll be self-employed, making a little bit of money doing the things I love. That's all I ever wanted (9)."
Columbia Pictures bought the rights to the movie alleviating the need to go to the Spanish home video market. The film, “cleaned up” by Columbia pictures for a couple hundred thousand dollars, still advertised it as a movie that was made for $7000. El Mariachi would gross $2 million off of Rodriguez initial investment of $7000. It won the Sundance Film Festival’s Audience Award and spawned two sequels: Desperado and Once A Upon in Mexico. In 1993 Rodriguez was 23 when El Mariachi was first released (10).

The BT Ultra HD YouView has now been around for a number of years, piping out 4K UHD broadcasts to anyone with the kit and money to be able to watch them.
More technically known as the Humax DTR-T4000, it certainly lives up to the hype surrounding UHD. With compatible systems now on the market from the likes of Sky and Virgin Media though, does the BT option still hold up?
The Humax DTR-T4000 is a YouView+ box, virtually identical in appearance and functionality to the YouView from BT box, except with a 1TB hard disk capable of storing 60 hours of UHD content.
With live UHD content still thin on the ground, you might well be filling the BT Ultra HD YouView box with HD or even SD shows, giving 250 hours and 600 hours respectively. Another difference is that this box is fan cooled, which makes it a bit noisy when the TVs been switched off but is totally necessary as it runs hot enough to fry an egg on.
To watch in BT Sport in 4K Ultra HD you’ll need a compatible screen with at least one HDMI 2.0 input that can handle HDCP 2.2 content protection and a picture resolution of 2160p (50Hz). Most modern 4K TV screens will play nice with the UHD channels.
Incidentally, you can also watch 4K channels downscaled to 1080p on a non-4K screen, which is something to bear in mind if you’ve got an older set.
What does it cost?
First up, you need to be a BT Infinity broadband customer (with a minimum 40Mbps connection) and a subscriber to BT TV’s top-level Ultra HD packages, which start at £15 a month.
You’ll also have to pay £50 for the box (free to new customers), line rental of £16.99/month and an installation fee of £44 if a BT Engineer is required to get you going.
New BT customers will have to pay £6.95 for a BT Home Hub router too.
Note that the IP content including BT Sport will not work if you use a different make of router, and that the Humax box isn’t wireless. BT does supply a 10m Ethernet cable, but you could try a Powerline connection.
You get 248 channels including 47 premium entertainment, documentary and lifestyle channels. Freeview channels are delivered via an aerial, the rest via internet.
Nearly 50 channels are in HD, 13 of which are premium ones (including seven BT Sport Extra channels). You also get the BT Sport Pack (BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport Europe, BT Sport ESPN) which includes all of the UEFA Champions League and a number of Premier League games.
Some of these will be shown in 4K on the Ultra HD channel (number 434 on the EPG). Aside from the odd live broadcast there’s very little to UHD, just a slew of short promo films designed to show off the format.
Netflix’s Ultra HD content has now arrived to add some much-needed extra 4K content. You can also subscribe to Sky Movies, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2, but only in HD.
To operate the box you use the humungous remote control, which is a touch unwieldy but at least the operating system is pleasing to look at and logically laid out, with carousels of menu options appearing in narrow bands at the bottom of the screen.
YouView+ means you get an EPG that scrolls back seven days as well as forwards and allows you to record shows from the past week so long as they are also contained within the relevant on-demand engine (iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, Demand 5, BT Player, Now TV, Milkshake!, UKTV Play, Sky Store, Quest, S4C), plus two apps (BBC News and BBC Sport), with Netflix now joining the party.
There are also scores of movies, TV shows (including box sets) and music videos to rent or buy from the likes of Sky Store, BT TV, Curzon Cinema, Nat Geo Wild, E!, SyFy, Universal, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Sony TV, Discovery, TLC, History, Fox, Comedy Central, MTV, and more…
Unfortunately, the box is no quicker to power up than the BT TV YouView box, taking a good 20 seconds or so from standby (and that in the non-eco mode, with the latter taking a full minute).
Considering how complex the content offering is the box itself is pretty easy to get to grips with.
Recording shows and accessing them proves a cinch and seems reliable. My only gripe here is that fast forward and rewind don’t allow you to shuffle through at twice normal speed, four times, eight times, etc. Instead each press of the FF button skips ahead about a minute at a time, which makes it very hard to find a specific incident. Also, there’s no slow-mo (as there is on Sky’s services).
While live 4K football is shown simultaneously in HD and Ultra HD each channel has its own cameras, commentators and studio support. And both require a lot of equipment and manpower to capture and deliver the picture.
Having checked out some of the matches broadcast in 4K, we can say the extra resolution proves captivating, especially when compared with the HD feeds. The most obvious difference is the extra detail afforded by the higher resolution format.
Everything is sharper than it is in HD, not just a bit sharper, much sharper. Admittedly, BT Sport 2 is a bit on the soft side anyway compared with football on Sky, which I discovered when I switched over to my Sky box to check out the Dundee United vs Aberdeen match on Sky Sports 1 HD.
Anyway, the outline of players in UHD is much clearer, the detail in the grass is better (even in wide shots), and you can actually read the wording on the ads that run round the upper tier of the Wembley stand.
This additional detail allows the camera to zoom out wider, so you see more of an overview of the action. Static detail is especially good since there is some inevitable loss of resolution with motion and the frame rate isn’t high enough to keep fast moving objects pin sharp, though it is running at a higher rate than HD.
One shot that really showed off the extra detail had Jose Mourinho standing on the touch line, taken from afar but framed so that you could see 20 rows of fans behind him, and you can clearly see the faces of around 800 supporters.
Astonishing detail
Another great shot was when Hazard took a free kick, which Cech saved, seen zoomed in from the opposite end, the clarity was a level above anything else ever seen in HD.
Any Ultra HD screen will be equipped to show off the extra detail with motion resolution holding up pretty well thanks to a 50fps frame rate.
As such, my 2015 model Samsung 48JU7000T looked excellent, especially with its Auto Motion Plus motion control mode set to the Smooth setting, keeping the ball from distorting when moving quickly through the air, and more pertinently, doing so without any processing artefacts.
Colours, set to output via HDMI in 10-bit, were also terrific, though the luminosity of the players’ pink and green boots was arguably too intense.
The match proved tricky at times for the cameras because of the immense contrast between sunny and shady parts of the pitch and the technology was clearly at its best when the light level was even (no wonder Sky adopted HDR for its own 4K service).
Even so, the broadcast was without doubt a success, with just a couple of very minor picture glitches and no sound problems at all.
Happily, the IPTV stream is outside of your internet service, so watching a broadcast won’t affect simultaneous streaming or web browsing elsewhere in the home on a computer. Also, the IP stream is user-agnostic so your speed won’t be affected by the number of other users in the district.
Given that so few boxes were out in the wild at the time of the first UHD broadcast it was perhaps forgivable that BT would skimp on the frills, with Peter Drury expected to provide the commentary and fulfil the pre-match and half-time hosting duties along with single guest Kevin Davies.
HD viewers on the other hand had the A-list – with Glenn Hoddle, Ian Wright and Rio Ferdinand.
It felt a bit like a beta service had been unleashed on the public, but Jake Humphrey, the main BT Sport presenter, was at the birth of his second child on the eve of the broadcast so there was a definite element of reshuffling.
As time has gone on though, 4K has grown in stature, with football matches at least broadcast in the higher Ultra HD resolution as a matter of course.
Considering its diminutive size and unremarkable design the Humax DTR-T4000 packs one hell of a punch, offering a broad quantity of free and paid content including the YouView seven day roll-back EPG and BT TV’s bespoke entertainment and sports offering.
Undoubtedly though it’s the BT Sport Ultra HD channel that we’re principally interested in, and without a doubt 4K UHD is the jewel in the BT YouView crown. Don’t forget that extra content from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video though.
We liked
The box is easy to get to grips with, with an intuitive onscreen menu system that makes you more inclined to explore the on-demand content than before.
The EPG is nicely laid out, which makes it a doddle to find and watch TV shows from the past seven days.
The box’s most important and likeable trait by far is the quality of the UHD channel. Utterly perfect for live sport, 4K images are astonishingly crisp and highly detailed.
We also like the way the live broadcast is directed to take full advantage of the greater clarity on offer.
We disliked
The UHD channel needs more shows, even with the addition of Netflix and Amazon Prime. The on-demand repository also requires a massive boost to its 4K content.
Recording is fine but the fast forward and rewind functions aren’t smooth and make it tricky to shuffle through a recording looking for a specific moment. Neither the remote control nor the box itself are going to win any design awards.
And for a significant portion of the population who don’t have the option of a 40Mbps BT fibre broadband this is a complete non-starter.
Final Verdict
More than ten years since the first HD broadcast the, ahem, goalposts have finally shifted again thanks to the BT Sport UHD channel.
The channel itself doesn’t yet seem like the finished article but the fact is the picture quality is so spectacularly good it makes it nigh-on impossible to revert to inferior Full HD pics once you’ve had a taste of the 4K manna.
If you’re a sport-loving BT Infinity subscriber the extra cost (£15/month and a one-off £49 charge) is almost a no-brainer, for non-BT customers the cost implications are higher and more complicated. You can check what it will cost you here on BT TV’s webpage.
Ultra HD is just getting started of course, and with Sky and Virgin Media now offering their own packages, the BT Ultra HD box looks a little inferior by comparison.
How BT gets all those pixels from pitch to picture.

My Game Of The Year Top 10 List Thing, I Guess
Is this what you’re supposed to use Tumblr for? I have no idea. Anyways, here’s My Game Of The Year Top 10 List Thing, I Guess!
This list only includes games I’ve actually played that came out in 2017. I haven’t played all of the big-name games that came out this year, so here’s a list of every new game I played this year that isn’t objectively shovelware:
Android: Fire Emblem Heroes, OK Golf, Monogolf, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Nintendo Switch: Fast RMX, Infinite Minigolf, Kamiko, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Namco Museum, Picross S, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Snipperclips, Sonic Mania, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Ping Pong Trick Shot, Vroom in the Night Sky
PC: 100ft Robot Golf, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, Golf It!, Guts and Glory, Jackbox Party Pack 4, Pictopix, PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, Project Cars 2, Tacopocalypse
Xbox One: Forza Motorsport 7
I bought a few more decent games that came out this year, but I haven’t gotten around to playing them yet, so they’re not included in the above list. I also bought a lot of old games and shovelware this year; you can check out my Backloggery here for proof. Anyway, here’s the list:
#10: 100ft Robot Golf
One of the best concepts for a game ever made. The game itself is pretty good, too. I might personally prefer the live-action cutscenes from No Goblin’s previous game Roundabout, but the anime cutscenes are also cool. My favorite mode is the one where you control four robots at the same time, trying to hit four golf balls into the same hole in a given time limit. I also really like the mech that’s controlled by five dogs, they’re good dogs.
Technically this game first came out last year, but it didn’t come to the PC until February of this year, which is when I was first able to play it.
#9: Sonic Mania
I have a couple of controversial opinions related to the Sonic series. I think that Sonic Adventure 1 is the best 3D Sonic game ever made, and I also think that Sonic Generations isn’t any better than Sonic 06. But I don’t think it’s controversial to say that Sonic Mania is a great game. The first playthrough is kind of annoying because you can’t go back and do old zones again until you beat the game. Also, you go back to the beginning of the zone, not the level, when you get a game over. And most of the deaths I had felt cheap in one way or another. But it was fun! Unlike almost every other Sonic game ever made, all of the stages are designed with going fast in mind, even the final few stages. There are definitely slow-paced platforming segments, but there aren’t very many instances where trying to go fast will hurt or kill you, so you can hold right and enjoy the great graphics and scenery flying by. I also really enjoyed the new-to-Mania zones, more than the old zones, in fact. The music in these zones in particular is fantastic, although it’s great in pretty much every level in the game.
#8: Picross S
It’s Picross, on the Switch! What more could you want? Well, a few more puzzles would be nice. There are 150 puzzles, but none of them are larger than 20x15 pixels, so I got through all of them fairly quickly. There’s also a Mega Picross mode, which is the same 150 puzzles, but sometimes the numbers of two adjacent rows or columns are combined. It’s kind of dumb. I also wish you could draw pixels on the touch screen, but the pixels do get pretty small in the bigger puzzles. Hopefully we’ll see a Picross S2, Picross S3, Picross S4, Picross S5, Picross S6, etc. in the coming months and years.
#7: Forza Motorsport 7
I have a LOT of complaints about this game.
The single player campaign sucks. I haven’t played a mainline Forza Motorsport game since 4, as I didn’t get an Xbox One until recently. Therefore, I don’t know what the campaigns were like in 5 and 6, but apparently 7 was supposed to make the campaign races feel like an actual racing series, with more realistic points distributions and all that. Great in theory, but the execution is terrible. In real racing, even the best drivers lose more than half of their races. In order to beat a series in Forza 7, you have to win every race in the series. Forza Horizon 3 did it right by not requiring you to win every race; you could finish last in every race in a championship, and you’d still beat the championship. Credits rewards are tied to the difficulty of the AI, so you want to turn it up to get more money, but then you’re more likely to lose races, which makes you want to turn the difficulty down or compensate by using a bunch of assists, like the stupid one that makes you drive as fast on the grass as on the road. There’s also no qualifying, so everybody starts in the same position every race, and the AI tends to finish in the same position every race as well. You also have to finish every race in a series before moving to the next series, which is annoying. So basically, every mechanic in single player is designed against having fun. Great!
Then there’s the progression. It’s slow, to say the least. There was controversy surrounding the VIP credits bonus, as it initially only gave you a few temporary cards that doubled your credits. However, it was updated to double your credits after every race, so that’s good. It still feels like you don’t gain credits fast enough to be able to buy and upgrade as many cars as you want, and that’s after I abused a glitch that allowed you to get infinite rewards (which has since been patched).
The game is also crash-prone, to the point of being almost unplayable on PC. The PC version has a memory leak which crashes the game after a few minutes if you look at your garage or upgrade your car. The Xbox version is more stable, but it’s still crashed a couple of times for me.
You’d think all of these criticisms would push the game off the top ten, right? But here’s the thing: multiplayer is super fun. Sure, it takes about ten minutes to get into your first race, because you always end up in a lobby where the race has just started. And sure, half the races end up in disaster because the guy behind you crashed into you at full speed at the first corner, but when you get near the front of the pack and have a good race with some other drivers, it’s a blast. I tried ghost racing for the first time the other day, and it led to surprisingly close and fun racing.
So yeah, Forza 7 is a pretty fun game, as long as you only play multiplayer.
#6: Monogolf
Decent mobile games are hard to come by these days. For a while, my go-to phone game was True Skate, but then it stopped working on my phone. Thanks, Huawei! Before that, I played Desert Golfing, but it got a bit boring after 3,000 holes. I saw Monogolf in the Google Play Store recently, thought it looked cool, and downloaded it. Now it’s my new go-to game.
Like many phone-based golf games (believe me, I’ve played a lot), you simply drag on the screen to point where you want the ball to go, and how fast it should go. The catch is that you have to get a hole-in-one on each hole. If you don’t, you lose a life. Beat as many holes as possible until you run out of lives. It’s super fun to try and beat your record, and you often do, as you’re constantly unlocking new lives. You also unlock extra level packs for reaching certain milestones.
The game’s art style is also really cool. A lot of mobile games go for the modern look, but it ends up looking cheap. Monogolf’s graphics don’t, helped by the variety of vivid colors and textures on the holes.
As far as in-app purchases are concerned, you can pay about $4.50 to unlock everything, including all of the pieces for course creation and the maximum number of lives, but everything can also be unlocked through normal playing.
I said a lot about Monogolf. The top five games are all Switch games, that wasn’t intentional, sorry.
#5: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Tin, why is this game not number one?
Because I liked the four games above this one better. That’s not to say Breath of the Wild isn’t a great game, because it is. And it deserves the overwhelming praise it’s gotten, too. I’ve just never been a huge fan of RPG or adventure games. Having never played more than a few hours of a Zelda game before, I expected to only play the game for a few hours just because using the Switch was a novelty at the time. However, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Running around the vast open world is fun, as are the shrines. Somehow, I managed to defeat a Divine Beast before finding a single korok seed, so now there’s a korok seed permanently in the middle of my Divine Beast orbs in my inventory. I really need to go back and beat the two Divine Beasts I didn’t get so I can try out the DLC, because that skeleton bike looks super cool.
#4: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
So this is just an updated version of Mario Kart 8, which came out three years ago. Some might say that makes it ineligible for 2017 awards, but I don’t care.
Deluxe adds several new gameplay mechanics, new characters and karts, and an updated Battle Mode. The addition of a second item box makes for an even more hectic experience than Not_Deluxe, and also adds a bit of an extra layer of strategy. Should you go for the double item box, or will someone else snatch it up, leaving you with no items? The triple boost is also nice. Deluxe adds the Inklings from Splatoon as playable characters, which automatically makes the game twice as good (this is a scientifically provable fact). The Battle Mode is also really good, although I haven’t played it that much, because regular racing is so great. Given how all of this was added on to an already-great game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is probably the best game in the series, and arguably the best racing game this generation (the other major contender being Forza Horizon 3).
#3: Puyo Puyo Tetris
Yes, I know this came out years ago. I imported a Vita copy back in 2015 for my PSTV that I never use. However, I’m including it in this list because it didn’t receive an English release until this year, which means that I can actually read the menus and story.
It turns out that combining two of the best puzzle games ever made creates another great puzzle game. Who would have thought? The story mode is great fun, and the story itself is surprisingly enjoyable, particularly the part where Schezo makes a bunch of innuendos. As far as the main modes go, Swap mode is objectively the best mode, as both players play both Puyo Puyo and Tetris, and do so on an even playing field. Versus mode is the next best, particularly when both players are playing the same game. Puyo vs. Tetris matches can be a bit lopsided, due to the two games having different garbage rules. Big Bang mode is alright too, particularly the Puyo version. You should avoid the Party and Fusion modes though, they’re bad.
Playing online is super fun, although most people play Tetris, unsurprisingly. Playing against someone at a similar skill level results in super tense and exciting matches, often with both players scrambling to clear enough garbage to be able to make a decent combo again. Lopsided matches do happen pretty often, though. Fortunately, you can disable matches in modes you don’t like, even in ranked mode. I usually just play Swap and Versus, although I’ll sometimes play Big Bang as well.
#2: Super Mario Odyssey
While a lot of games recently have focused on huge, expansive worlds, with various places to do things, Odyssey instead has relatively small levels with things to do EVERYWHERE. There are essentially as many moons in this game as there are korok seeds in Breath of the Wild, which means that moons are probably 50 feet apart from each other on average. There’s always something new to do that won’t take more than a couple of minutes when you go back to a particular level (unless you’ve gotten all the moons on that level, of course, but even then you might have to go back for a thing or two…). Some people have said that it feels like busy work to get all of the moons, and it is to some extent, but I found it wasn’t that difficult to get most of, if not all the moons in a level in a few-hour session or two.
New Donk City is one of my favorite levels in any video game, ever. The music, atmosphere, and level design are all so fantastic that I had fun for hours just messing around, jumping through the city and up to the top of buildings. It’s definitely the standout level of the game IMO.
Mario has probably the best movement I’ve ever felt in any video game. There are so many different things he can do that I feel like I still haven’t learned all of his abilities, even though I’ve 100%ed the game. The jump -> throw cap -> dive to cap -> jump off cap -> throw cap again -> dive to cap again mechanic is super fun to perform, and not as complicated as it sounds. It takes a couple of tries to get used to, but it’s very intuitive once you get used to it.
The capture ability is also amazing. It surprisingly doesn’t feel gimmicky at all, as each of the objects you can capture let you do the things you’d want to do in a given level. Cheep-Cheeps can let you swim more quickly, Goombas let you walk on ice without slipping around, posts let you spring up the sides of buildings, and so on. My favorite object to capture is probably the pokey thing in Bowser’s Castle that I don’t remember the name of that lets you snap to and spring up walls, although it’s also one of the more finnicky objects to use.
Overall, SMO is probably the best platformer I’ve ever played, and I thoroughly enjoyed 100 percenting it. It would be my game of the year, except I happened to like one game even more. Can you guess what it is?
#1: Splatoon 2
You probably guessed what it was.
Splatoon 2 is the only game from this year that I played for more than 100 hours. For comparison, I played one game for more than 100 hours in 2016, Forza Horizon 3, and three games for more than 100 hours in 2015: Super Mario Maker, Rocket League, and Splatoon. Super Mario Maker and Rocket League are probably two of my top ten games of all time, and Forza Horizon 3 isn’t far behind. Splatoon would also be one of my top ten favorite games, if it wasn’t for the fact that Splatoon 2 is objectively so much better.
If you’ve never played Splatoon, the goal is basically to paint the floor with more ink than the other team (also you should play it right now). It sounds silly, but it’s super fun. The ranked modes are also great, and your rank is now broken up per mode, instead of all the modes contributing to the same rank. That’s great, because now you don’t have to only play one ranked mode if you’re better at that mode than the others.
There are a bunch of new gear items, some of which are really cool. I really like the tye-dye shirt, and also the jungle hat that everyone hates. You can also wear a plant if you really want to. I need to make it as clear as possible that the visual aesthetic of this game just oozes with coolness. It’s probably the coolest game I’ve ever played.
There are several new weapon types, too. The Splat Dualies are neat because you can dash twice while firing, making yourself a difficult target. The Splat Brella gives you a shield, but it isn’t very useful in practice IMO.
The new stages feel a lot more open than the stages in Splatoon 1. Humpback Pump Track has an incredible name and is a great smaller level, while Mako Mart has a more open feel, and the supermarket design is fantastic. It’s definitely my favorite level in the series. Most of my favorite stages from Splatoon 1 have made also their way to the sequel, including Port Mackerel, Kelp Dome, Walleye Warehouse, and Moray Towers (yes, I like that map).
Splatoon 2’s single player campaign is similar to the first game’s, with the added twist that you have to use various different weapons throughout the missions, instead of just the Splattershot. This adds a lot of replay value, as you now have to beat each level with each different weapon to 100 percent (or 1000 percent) the campaign. I’m about halfway through doing this, and I intend on finishing it eventually.
Salmon Run is new to Splatoon 2, and it’s a great new mode. You have waves of hordes of enemies that want to murder you, and you have to murder them first. There are probably much better explanations of the mode available. It also makes you try out new weapons, as the weapon you use is randomly assigned at the start of each wave from a set of four weapons. My main complaint with this mode is that I wish there were more rotations with completely random weapons, as a lot of the rotations with preset weapons tend to have a lot of weapons with low firing rates, which makes the mode more difficult and arguably less fun. Also, you can only play the mode on certain days, which is kind of silly.
Splatoon 2 is one of those games that’s greater than the sum of its parts. On paper, it sounds cool, but not as amazing as it really is. I almost didn’t buy the first Splatoon, which is something I have a hard time believing now (the same thing is true for Rocket League). It’s hard to put into words why, but the finished product, with all the great gameplay mechanics and super cool style blended together, is simply amazing. It’s more fun and cool than any other game I’ve played this year, so it’s an easy choice for my Game of the Year.
Hooray!
Honorable Mentions
These are games that would probably be on the list if I had a PS4 so I could play them:
Everybody’s Golf: I like golf games, as you might have noticed by the number of golf games I’ve played this year. This is a golf game, therefore I should like it.
Gran Turismo Sport: Gran Turismo is one of my favorite series of all time. A lot of people haven’t liked the more serious mode of racing that Sport offers, but I think it’ll be right up my alley. The livery editor also looks super cool.
Wipeout Omega Collection: I really liked Wipeout HD, and this is basically that, but with an even higher definition! Also, it has the tracks from Wipeout 2048 which I haven’t seen before.
These games almost made the Top Ten, but didn’t:
Jackbox Party Pack 4: It’s fun, but JPP3 is better IMO. Don’t worry, I’ll still be streaming more Jackbox in the future.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS: I haven’t played this game much because it gives me anxiety when I play it. I really don’t like loud noises, so hearing a random gunshot after 20 minutes of silence startles me a lot. It’s also kind of slow-paced. I do like the concept more, so I’ll probably play it again soon, maybe with some music in the background.
Come back next year for my 2018 list, which will probably be the post after this one, given how little I use Tumblr!

AI will turn PR people into superheroes within one year
Something every woman should know - WHY MEN LIE!
GUEST:
PR is critical for startups. The profession is always been one part relationship manager, one part storyteller — a sales and marketing gig rolled into one. But with billions being poured into artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning over the next 30 years, the tech PR industry is next in line for a serious AI upgrade. Every PR person who manages to surf the new AI wave will get instant superpowers, including the ability to predict the future.
Source: Data Source: Tractica and Statista.
For the scoop, I reached out to PR and marketing tools vendors and PR agencies big and small.
Here are the big takeaways:
Pay attention
According to Jeff Hardison, VP at Lytics, a customer data platform and a major player in analytics, “Machine learning is already helping marketers make more efficient use of customer data, and complementing what they’ve had for centuries: intuition and experience.”
The keyword is “complements,” not replaces, he said.
Machine learning today. Tomorrow, AI
“Two years ago or even last year the technology that could calculate and develop the algorithms weren’t as efficient or open as they are today,” said Saif Ajani, CEO of Keyhole, a hashtag analytics company that uses Google Tensor Flow to tap into the capabilities of machine learning.
“Google and Amazon have put up AI clouds dedicated to machine learning just in the past 12 to 24 months,” he said. Keyhole can now plug its huge data set for social into the AI cloud and get results for clients quickly and affordably. Our data is 80 to 90 percent accurate in predicting what is going to happen after 30 days. Within 3 days we can predict how big the trend is going to be after 30 days,” he said.
The next #DeleteUber PR nightmare can be avoided
“What brands or PR agencies fail to understand is how big a crisis is going to be,” continued Ajani. “The #boycottunited crisis started in January, and it’s now September and still happening. The challenge for PR agencies is how do you know what’s going to go massive? Within 24 or 72 hours we can actually tell you how massive a crisis is going to be in the next 30 days.”
Above: Image courtesy of Keyhole
Soon vendors will be able to combine hundreds of different factors and billions of social posts to make predictions with an incredible degree of accuracy. Once your data tells you that a crisis is going to be massive, your agency will be able to confidently put the brakes on pre-scheduled posts and respond more appropriately to the situation, unlike what happened with #deleteuber and #boycottunited.
Some PR agencies are lagging
Surprisingly, several multi-national agencies I spoke with do not currently use machine learning or AI with their clients, and they asked not to be mentioned in this story.
That’s not good news for them.
Shift Communications, however, is ahead of the curve and poised for growth.
Shift uses AI and machine learning in predictive analytics, text mining, and advanced attribution. During a recent client crisis, Shift was able to crunch more than 15,000 content-rich blogs for a medical client in just 1.5 seconds to identify insights, trends, and keywords in hopes to identify the root cause of a situation. Through the process, Shift was able to uncover an entirely different reputation issue that the client is now able to address.
None of that would have been possible without machine learning and large data sets, says Christopher Penn, Shift vice president.
“We use a blend of open source software [and] custom code, with the help of their partner, IBM Watson,” Penn said.
AI will touch everything marketing pros touch
BuzzSumo, the powerful tool that allows any user to find out what content is popular, uses machine learning in a number of ways across its various products.
“Our primary use [of machine learning] is classification of articles into topics and extracting phrases from questions to help classify the question,” said Steve Rayson, director at BuzzSumo. “A simple example is that an article may be classified as being about e-learning, even if it doesn’t mention elearning specifically.”
BuzzSumo estimates that about half of its 3,500 paying companies are PR and social media professionals involved in content production and promotion.
Rayson continued, “Machine learning works well with large data sets and helps us with problems such as classification. It also helps us to identify common elements of content that gains shares and links. … More generally, we are seeing the benefits of machine learning using large data sets such as in translations, image recognition, and spam detection.
“We have a database of over 6 billion content items and add over 100 million new content items each month. We use machine learning to help us classify content and to rank content. For example, we crawl hundreds of thousands of forums to identify questions being asked on any topic and we extract phrases to group these questions into sub-topics,” he said.
Rayson said he’s interested in “content writing algorithms” from Narrative Science and Automated Insights.
“It’s really about focusing on the problem you are trying to solve.”
For AI, size of the data matters
As a leading platform for PR media measurement and attribution analytics, AirPR crawls, processes, and analyzes billions of data points per day and uses natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning techniques to “teach” its systems to understand text and classify articles, as well as determine relevance and influence for any brand.
“We use AI and machine learning to improve filtering of the data our customers have access to, removing the majority of spam and non-relevant URLs that distort business impact reporting,” said AirPR CEO and cofounder Sharam Fouladgar-Mercer.
AirPR’s own content marketing and PR teams leverage the machine learning capabilities of the AirPR Analyst platform to research which topics and story arcs are trending for its target audience. The platform provides deeper insight into the articles, authors, influencers, and messages that drive actual engagement with a customer’s brand.
Another company to pay attention to is Trendkite, an emerging leader in PR measurement and analytics.
“Artificial intelligence and machine learning are engrained throughout the TrendKite product,” a Trendkite spokesperson told me over email. “With machine learning, Trendkite is able to provide insights and recommendations based on reviewing more data points than humans could possibly reason over. This enables us to do things like distinguishing earned media content from other types of content so that we can better attribute business outcomes to PR efforts.”
Above: Image courtesy of Trendkite
Social tools are leading the AI charge
Hootsuite sees itself as innovative in data science, which also requires a large amount of data.
Hootsuite uses machine learning for social marketing, social selling, and social support. A product to watch is Hootsuite Insight, which tracks mentions and brand sentiment.
Above: Screenshot from Hootsuite.com
“We figure out trends around your brand, which allows us to identify spikes,” said Mik Lernout, vice president of product at Hootsuite.
“Hootsuite Insights consumes a lot of data to create meaningful results for our customers. A lot of that initial work is pretty run-of-the -mill data crunching. The data science and machine learning is used when Insights classifies and prioritizes the relevant data for a specific customer. Out of all of the social conversations about my brand: Are those positive or negative? What are the topics and themes that keep coming up? What are the real-time trends you might need to act on? These kinds of questions can only really be answered using data science and machine learning,” Lernout said.
Expect more PR apps with machine learning
Above: Courtesy of Say It Media
Finally, I chatted with Audrey Mann Cronin, the founder of Say It Media, Inc., who invented the mobile app LikeSo. LikeSo is a personal speech coach that helps you eliminate annoying verbal tics. Cronin says she’ll be adding machine learning and artificial intelligence during her next round of funding.
Personally, I could see so many uses for this app by PR and especially executive communications professionals, as well as for anyone who wanted to improve their speaking ability. The app is included in the next syllabus at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill by communications professor Rick Clancy.
So pay attention, PR veterans.
The next wave of PR tech is here, and hunches and experience aren’t going to cut it anymore. Will robots take over PR jobs? According to Willrobotstakemyjob, there’s only an 18 percent likelihood of that ever happening.

Tricknological Dramaturgy: B Dolan @ Edfringe 2017
Sage Francis & B Dolan present
TRICKNOLOGY
The Show That Promises To Fix Your Life In One Hour
**SNAPCHAT (BDolanSFR) or INSTAGRAM (BDolanSFR) message for a free Physic Reading**
6:35pm 4th -27th August @New Town Theatre Tickets: http://bit.ly/Tricknology
Following their award winning and smash success 2016 Fringe debut show ‘Strange Speech/Famous Development’, Sage Francis & B.Dolan are back to bring us ‘TRICKNOLOGY’.
In this hour-long demonstration of patented spoken word, freestyle techniques, motivational daredevils, freestyle psychic readings the legendary Epic Beard Men expose the diabolical trickery
of slam poets, battle rappers, improv comics, sh*t mentalists, self-help gurus, li(f)e coaches, faith healers and reality TV presidents. This is what ‘The Secret’ would be if it actually worked. And if it was funny.
'Think it, see it, feel it, know it, smell it, stop it!'
It's time to violently open your chakras and get your squad goals realigned by these two monsters of the stage.
What was the inspiration for this performance?
Many people report feeling as if they’ve shifted into a simulation or an ‘alternate universe' in the past year.  It’s almost as if we are living in some kind of worst-case-scenario timeline where Prince, David Bowie and Charlie Murphy have died, democracy is being hacked, social media is collecting detailed analytics about us while basic facts are in hotly contested dispute, and our global fate is being manipulated daily via Reality TV production tactics.
This performance was conceived to investigate why and how that shift could possibly have happened.  We approached this as two writers who wanted to investigate and monetize your ability to hack those glitches in the human mind, and talk about how charlatans, demagogues, slam poets, and even we as rappers rely on things like “Confirmation Bias” and bait-and-switch to manipulate a captive audience.
Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?
I think it may be more important now than ever, for many reasons.  Everything about our modern life encourages us to consume media and sound off about it on our timelines in isolation.  Just being together in a physical space and experiencing the same thing can feel like an inherently political act, even if the subject-matter isn’t.
The ability to look at each other and talk about ideas with no screens in between feels very vital to me.  Shows have a new feeling this year, and people have a different look in their eye when you talk to them.  That look lets me know people need to be here.
How did you become interested in making performance?
I don’t ever remember making a conscious choice to be a performer.  For as long as I can remember, I was commanding people’s attention.  Even when I had no idea what to do with it.  So I tried a lot of things.  Sage Francis and I have both performed in a lot of ways.
We met as spoken word artists, work together as rappers, have both performed with or without a DJ or a band... in a thousand different settings and crowd-sizes.  With crowds who sometimes don't speak our language.    At this year’s Fringe I’ll be attempting, for the first time, to perform as a cold-reading psychic.  It’s been a continual process of developing through those different modes and shows and fleshing out who I am / can be onstage over the years I think.   So my continuing interest and passion comes from pursuing and developing that always.
Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?
With this show, Sage Francis & I started by assembling scraps of ideas we were inspired or struck by.  Documentaries, books, Youtube videos, instrumentals, and ideas we wanted to riff on.  We’re in constant contact throughout the year due to our music work, so for awhile we were just passing ideas back and forth and adding them to a google doc.
Then at a certain point we started drawing connections between modes of performance and ideas to perform, and making an outline.  Bits of writing started to come together and sections started to get fleshed out and attached to musical ideas.
We are going to be leaving a hopefully manageable amount of room in the show for improvisation however, and I expect the show to be ‘written’ live in some sense.
I think Francis also is planning on bringing some of the interactions together as we go and trying different things, as our aim is to give the show a "Self-Help Seminar" feel and flow.  In a few sections I’ve written a couple different variations on the ’script' that I can move about within, or tailor to an audience member I’m talking to…  I expect both of us to experiment with deliveries and beats like a stand-up comedian would, throughout.
Does the show fit with your usual productions?
Not at all.  Haha.  Not at fucking all.  Which I think we’re both excited about.   The usual for both of us is an hour long rap show with bits of spoken word mixed in, or performing time-trusted songs and pieces that people know and like on record.
We will incorporate some of that this go around, but we’re both also attempting to do a lot of new and experimental material.
What do you hope that the audience will experience?
Anything short of a psychotic break is fine.  Transcendent moments and spontaneous emotional release may occur.  During the show we will aim to provide moments of hope, despair, anxiety, bewilderment, confusion and delight.
We will paint a dark picture with bright colors.  We intend to act like we are absolutely positive this shit is going to change your life, and if it doesn’t then we can’t be held responsible and it’s on YOU.  We send the positive energy out into the universe, collect our guarantee, and go back to our awesome lives.  I can't jumpstart your battery if you're not gonna put the clamp on the lead, you dig?
What strategies did you consider towards shaping this audience experience?
As mentioned, we mined a couple modes of performance that have been dominating our attention lately in regard to the state of the world.  First, we watched Donald Trump perform at his stump speeches for a year.  We watched Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra documentaries and perceived their modes of performance and performative personal narratives.
We also consulted both of our own back catalogues for some themes and performances that could be repurposed or brought into the show.  From there Francis went nuts procuring costumes and props.  I started giving freestyle psychic rap readings to fans one at a time via Snapchat to try and figure out how that part of the show could go.
I also researched cold-reading and received a number of psychic readings. With other parts of the show that are more like monologues, songs or poems it’s been a more traditional memorization / rehearsal process.
So it’s been a very unusual prep process, which is still underway heading into our first show.
FINGERS CROSSED.  FRINGE FESTIVAL. EPIC BEARD MEN.  ADVANCED PLAYER MODE.  TRICKNOLOGY.
SAGE FRANCIS and B. DOLAN are two internationally renowned hip-hop lyricists & spoken word poets. Born and raised in Rhode Island, the duo share over 30 years collective touring history.
Both dynamos - respectively touted for their lyricism, activism, humour & performance art - are represented in the UK by Scroobius Pip’s Speech Development label.
Each moved to New York City in search of the art-form, stumbled into the spoken word scene & developed a knack for razor sharp lyricism & stagecraft. Sage became an internet hit & received wide media critique in 2001 for his powerful, post 9/11 song ‘Makeshift Patriot’ & later formed Strange Famous Records. B Dolanhas been releasing records on SFR since 2008. The performer enjoyed wide-spread attention for his activism in addressing homophobia in Hip-Hop and notably for his video single/campaign “Film The Police” which Russell Brand learns about in a highly entertaining episode of ‘The Trews’ In 2016, Dolan launched the ‘Make Racists Afraid Again’ hat campaign to counter-act not just President Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ merchandise line but to express solidarity with those opposing racism, homophobia and fascism worldwide. Make Racists Afraid went viral. It was adopted by protests far and wide, from Germany to USA. It even found it’s way onto USA Open golfer Andrew Johnston’s wardrobe.  A Synergy Concerts & One Inch Badge presentation @SynergyConcerts / @OneInchBadge / @BDolanSFR / @SageFrancis / @New_TownTheatre / @TheStandComedyClub

Hints
Call The Star Fox Team!
Ok, this must be done with Fox of Falco.Go to Corneria. With Fox or Falco, push left and right over and over again on the D-PAD! If you do this really fast, Fox or Falco will get into a humorous conversation with the other three. This can only be done once per match. This must be done correctly or it will not work, if you taunt in the middle of your attempt, it will mess it up and you must start over, try not to hit the taunt button. (D-Pad up)
Get Pichu
Beat Event Match 37: Legendary Pokemon.
Don’t Fight Giga Bowser!
Ther is away to escape Giga Bowser W/O playing on a level below Normal or Use continues! You can do this if you take over 18 minutes to beat adventureon Normal or above. So waste as much time as possible.
Win Easily With Shiek
To win easily with shiek just keep on doing your dash attack when the opponent hits the ground. Keep doing this untill your opponent has a high percentage and the use you (B UP) Smash for an easy kill.
Easy Hours
If you go through a certain number of hours playing versus mode, you will receive a prize for your patience. But if you’re like me, you don’t have any patience, or you just don’t have the time, than this is for you. This is very cheap:Go to the versus mode and set it on TIME MELEE.Set it so that there is no time. Now, pick your players and make sure that you don’t set it to all cpu’s, because if you do, the time won’t be recorded. Then, all you do is leave the game running for as long as you want. It doesn’t matter how many KO’s or falls occurr; you will be forced to reset(No Contest)and they won’t be recorded. (After 20 hours is recorded, you will receive Mewtwo; a competent character, and a powerful foe!)
How To Get The Tall One(Luigi)
Beat the first level in adventure mode. The timer needs to have 2 seconds on it when you run into the finish. In the next level you’ll be fighting peach & luigi.Defeat luigi in less than 50 seconds and then finish beating adventure mode.(you can take as long as you want fighting peach)
Pokemon Floats Stage
Fight over 200 multi-player matches to unlock the Pokemon Floats stage.
Fourside Stage
Fight over 100 multi-player matches to unlock the Fourside stage.
Flatzone Stage
Successfully complete classic mode with Mr. Game & Watch without losing a life to unlock the Flatzone stage.
Dream Land Stage
Successfully complete Break The Targets mode with all fighters to unlock the Dream Land stage.
Master Hand In Multiplayer
While you are choosing your character in multiplayer mode, make sure you have two remotes. Have one remote on the 3rd player slot and then hold A and B at the same time than let go of A for exactly one second then press and hold A again and you will be in the stage choosing place. Choose any place once in the stage master hand will appear in the place but the game will freeze after awhile but the game will never save this.
How To Fight Both Hands On Classic Mode
To fight both the Master Hand & the Crazy Hand (left hand), select Normal or higher difficulty. Then, when you fight the Master Hand, cut his HP in half in 30 SECONDS OR LESS! If you don’t, you won’t fight the Crazy Hand. NOTE: Beating the Crazy Hand earns you 80,000 points!
How To Fight 2 Master Hands
First, you have to be Link in his black tunic. Second you must be on normal with 3 lives or how ever many you want. Last and not least, a tip you have to get his health to 150% but don’t freak out when your screen freezes and shows you (i did) its just how the second hand comes in. And thats it. P. S . He is really hard even though its on normal.
15 Minute Melee Done Easily
I tried many times to complete 15 minute melee but always ended with disaster. Not even DK worked! Until I noticed that the female wire frames tend to stay away and not attack so, don’t attack them. Choose Kirby and right when it starts, hope down to the edge and STAY THERE. If you feel a wire frame is too close to you then hit A and you will hope up and kick it so they can’t hit you first (besides, you do need at least 1 K. O . ) . If you do this, eventually you will run into 4 or 5 females who would rather hope around than attack you. Pay attention to when you fall and try to stay awake and you will beat it! After all, it is worth it because you are awarded with the N64 stage: Kongo Jungle and a few trophies!
Samus’ Extended Grappling Beam
Pick Samus and push the Z button repeatedly. Whilepushing the Z button, move the Control Panel Upand Down over and over. After a few seconds, tryyour Grappling Beam (Z) and it should twice aslong! When using your Grappling Beam, hold L tohome in the nearest opponent and push Z again tograb hold of them. This extended Grappling Beamstops when you die.
Gannondorf
You have to beat Event match 27.
How To Get Young Link
Beat classic mode with 10 different characters.
Jump Up Walls
You might see in some of the mini-movies that the characters jump off walls. Well, in case you didn’t know, it’s possible, and it’s easy! First off, not all walls work with this, and only certain characters are good at it, namely Link, Marth, C. Falcon. In other words, the human cahracters are best. What you do is jump at the wall you want to jump off of. RIGHT WHEN YOU HIT IT, tap hard on the controller in the other direction. You should bounce off. When you are in an area with two walls right next to eachother in a small area, you can bounce back and forth and reach the top. This makes it possible to complete Young Link’s Target Test, and to recover in Fourside for characters who can’t use their third jump in the cracks. Remember, not all walls work.
Easy Way To Win A Battle
What You want to do is to jump and evade attacks. After you evade wait to attack and you’ll have the advantage. Don’t let the advantage slip or you’ll be back where you started. Trust me I’ve done this to the greatest of players, and I’m one of the best.
How To Do More Than 30 Hits In Training
To do more than 30 hits in training you have to select a character that can hit rapidly like link( when you press “a” rapidly). Then, you have to put your oponent closed to a wall and start hiting him, if you do this rapidly youll make a combo of more than 30 hits. [ Skedar ].
How To Beat Event 51 (Tough)
First, go to events. You know how they always say be this person and that one also.Well just try who you like and do strong and fast moves.I was reading codes that other people gave me to beat event 51 I DIED BADLY. So I chose falco. Because of his great ability to jump high. YOu jump over Giga Bowser(You want to defeat him first)and doup & B and aim at his head diagonnaly so after you hit him your not in his attacking range.Keep doing that untill he dies.Items will help you greatly expecially poke’balls. Then when your left with Mew2 and gannondwarf roll to the other side of them then smash ’em. or use the illusion and smash or do the same strategy as to giga bowser. Don’t get frustrated if you died on the 1,2,or 3 try. It took me 5 tries to win.
How To Beat Event 51 And Get It Over With (trust Me On This One!)
Well you probably seen all the hints on saying be jiggly or kirby right? well i tried that and i DIED! Anyway i started doing it my way and started fighting with my favorite character fox.and guess what i WON! What you want to do is jump in the air (above giga bowser) and do fire fox(up+b) and aim straight for giga bowser. he should get good enough damage keep doing this- *almost forgot run away from bowser after the attack or you will get hit. Try avoiding the 3fighters is the best thing to do untill giga bowser is dead. Now going on with the other 2. Make them go to a edge then go to the opposite edge use your blaster(b)they should use their sheild to try to block the shots, hit them rapidly untill their sheild breaks. keep firing untill their damage is very high then BOOM! a smash attack should send them fling off the battle stage. *notice try to have at least 2 stocks while fighting mewtwo and ganondorf so you can assure you will win.(in other words try not to get slapped around with giga bowser and kill them all!)
Fox Phone
Chose Fox or Falco as your character and play one of his stages(Corneria or Venom). Rapidly press left right left right on the d-pad. He will crouch down and suddenly stand up. When he does, video links will apear and the other members of the Star Fox Team will say somthing. This can only be done once in a battle.
Vs Giga Bowser
Beat adventure mode in the difficulty normal or higher in less than five minutes. After that Bowser’s trophy will fall back in the feild and a bolt of lightning will shock it. Then it will transform to giga bowser. When the round begins try to use far away attacks. When giga bowser is 500% of damage use a smash attack to blow him away. WARNING:If you get game over while versing giga bowser you have to do this all over again to face him again.
Get Mewtwo
Leave game on in two player vs. mode(not paused)for 20 or more hours(after dude says GO!!)or play 700 vs. mode matches or more.
Get Dr. Mario
Beat Adventure Mode with Mario.
Get Ganondorf
Beat Event Match 27: Triforce Gathering.
Get Roy
Beat Classic Mode with Marth.
Batter Up!
This is a very neat trick. First you will need three players one as peach, one as DK and one as either link, young link, Marth, or Roy. Then choose a course with very flat land I like pokemon stadium or Final Destination. Then put DK ducking down by the edge then put your swordsman just in front of him. Then put peach a little bit away and pick a vegitable out of the ground then have her throw it. If you have good timing and you are the swordsman you can make contact and WAMO that vegi’s gone! It is hard to do but I eventually got it right.
Kirby’s Rock Attack
It makes you turn into a rock a 100lb weight or a spike. You fly and hit down b on the controller. (do not do on a hill or a slant facing the ground)
Event 50 (Easily)
If your having trouble with Event 50 try choossing Yoshi from the char select screen. When the fight starts dash towards Crazy hand (the one on the left) and continue to use the “jump & down+A Move” if you do this correctly you will cause over 50 damage with every attack. after crazy hand is defeated attack Master Hand with the same stratagy but watch out for his slap attack, you can tell when he is going to preform an attack when he moves back slightly. If you cant beat them with Yoshi, Bowser and DK also works well for this. use the same stratagy as with Yoshi but use “Up+B” instead. in my opinion it doesnt work as well because they only knock off about 33 damage with every attack and it takes time to recover after preforming it.
Jigglypuff Is Really Stronger Than You Think
Many people think Jigglypuff is just a punching bag but so far i’ve only beaten my master(ahem cousin) with Jigglypuff. First you charge up with the b attack. Hit your opponant many times with this. Finally when your opponent is about let’s say 40% for lighties(Kirby,Jigglypuff,Pichu.)50% for middies(Pikachu Yoshi Mr.G&Wsecond favorite.) and 70%[these are averages] for heavies(Bowser d.k. [etc.?]).
100 Man Melee With Kirby
Another way to beat 100 man melee is by getting Kirby on the very edge of the stage. Then constantly use Kirby’s Final Cutter (Up+B). If you do this correctly Kirby should not land on the platform above him. Plus the enemies cannot get close enough to hit you.
Super Small And Super Giant Melee Hints
First, pick which one you want to do, small or giant. Go to do a special melee, and pick the one that you want to do. you will go to the melee screen. click at the top where it says “2 minute melee” and go down to the item switch. if you want to do super giant melee, turn off everything but the super mushroom, and if you want super tiny turn off everything but the poison mushroom.go to the top of this screen and switch the number of items to “very high”. hit start and then start the melee. the only items will be the mushrooms and they will make you either bigger or smaller.
Jigglypuff Death
Hold Jigglypuff’s shield until it breaks. Once it breaks, Jigglypuff will fly up in the air and die.
Ness’s Electric Trick
If your favorite charactor is Ness listen to this. Send out Ness’s blue electric attack. Direct the bolt back to you.If you hit Ness in the right spot, Ness will yell “AHHHHH!” and fall down to the ground.
Score Display
To unlock the “Score Display” option in Additional Melee Rules, accumulate more than 5,000 KOs in melee matches. This enables you to show or hide the score during melee matches.
Get 5,000 KOs Easily!
Got to Melee. Set stock to 99, damage ratio to 2.0, turn on handicap, if you have Randon Stage Select set it to only Flat Zone(if you don’t have it use Ness’s level. Coose 4 CPU characters. One level 9 the rest at level 1. Set the level 9 CPU’s handicap to 9 andn the others to to 1. You should choose the level 6 as link or someone else with a sword. The battle should last about 11 minutes. You will get about 290 KO’s each battle. Repeat the battle until you have reached 5,000 KOs. Onces you have reached it, play a simple 1 stock battle. And you should ynlock Score Display under additional rules.
Start With Shiek
When going into a multiplayer melee, you can automatically start out in a level with Shiek. Just choose Zelda for your character, and when you choose an arena, press and hold the “A” button. Zelda should automatically transform into shiek as the match begins.
How To Beat Event Match Lv. 50
To beat Crazy hand and Master hand you need to select bowser from the character screen. You need to kill crazy hand first, then master hand by jumping up and pressing Up, B. Trust me, it worked for me.
Catch An Item
There is a way to catch items that are thrown at you. If you tap A just at the right time before an item hits you, you can catch it and throw it right back at your opponent. You can also catch items an opponent throws away when he no longer needs the item, just go to the item and tap A before it hits the ground and you can stop it from disappearing.
Vs. Giga Bowser
First you go to Adventure mode and set it to NORMAL. Then get through the whole game without a continuation. Then when you get to the regular Bowser beat him in 30 sec. or less. Then after the Bowser trophey falls it will come back up and it will turn into Giga Bowser. GOOD LUCK!!!!
How To Unlock Marth
To unlock Marth defeat classic with all default characters.
Different Combos For Marth And Roy
Doing a combo on Roy and Marth is simply done by tapping foward and B. Then you keep tapping B 3 more times to do a full combo. However, there are different combos you can do. The first swing is always the same, but on the next 3 swings, tap up OR down while pushing B. You will do different swings. It’s really cool (Especially the last one by tapping down+B).

Landmaster Tank Trophy
You need to get a total of 1,001 coins.
Get Mewtwo REALLY Easy
We all know that you need either 700 vs. matches or twenty hours of gameplay to get Mewtwo, right? Well, I tried getting 700 matches so that I could get other trophies and things (such as one for playing 100 matches). I got to around 480 and finally gave up. I then found a REALLY easy way to get Mewtwo. You need twenty hours, right? Well if you play with more than one human, each human gets a certain amount of time. So, what I did is play with 2 humans in vs. mode (no cpu’s) and left it on all night. Since there were two humans, it only took ten hours instead of twenty. If you have three humans, than it’s only 6 hours and 40 minutes–great for turning on and then going to school! And if you use four humans, only FIVE hours!! Remember to unplug your controllers before going to bed. Put them on a stage (I prefer the pokemon stadium in the middle on the pokeball) that won’t change or anything and cause everyone to fall off the edge. Bullet Bill’s the reason that Princess Peach’s castle is a bad choice. Once you finally get Mewtwo, you’ll realize that he’s a great fighter (if you learn how to use him) and that now you can go for an even bigger trophy–Mr. Game & Watch, as well as event matches past number 39.
Help Fox With The Starfox Team
To this trick, play as Fox or Falco and select the stage either Corneria or Venom (you can ONLY do this trick as Fox or Falco and in either Corneria or Venom). Then when your playing press left and right on the control pad rapidly. Then the Star Fox team will either help you by giving you useless advice or tell you to watchout for an enemy attack. Go to a place where the enemy will not attaxk you for a long time.
Get Trophies Every Time You Fight For Them!
When you go to Event Match and try to beat Trophy Tussle 2 it is rough to win the Entei Trophy. It is easier to use Dr.Mario and use his Coin Rob[up+B]and his Spinning Spinner Grab[grab hold of someone+backward]will work but it is still a little hard but easier. So give them a taste of their own medicine!
Pause Credit Game
To pause the credit game hit the B button while the credits are flying by.
Event Match 51 With Yoshi
Event match 51 is very tough. I used Yoshi with his down B move. Try to jump up and use it on giga bowser until he’s knocked out and his 3 lives are gone. If your lucky you can take out mewtwo and gannondorf while your hitting giga bower. After you get knocked off you are invicible for about 3 seconds. Use that time to smash hit giga bowser or the other fighters. But stay off the ground to avoid getting hit.
Get Poke Floats And Pichu(alternate Way)
Play 200 VS. matches and Pichu will challenge the winner of the 200th match after defeating him you will get him AND Poke Floats.

You are not going to die and your enemy will!!! But, it doesn’t work with Ganondorf, Roy or Pichu. To kill them, inhale them, fall, exhale them and when they try to come back, smash them!!!
Bowsers New Name!
Now to get bowser a new name you do the same as what to get purin only this time bowsers new name is Koopa. It’s odd but still pretty cool!
Get A Surprise In The Great Bay
First go to 1 player mode and go to traning. Pick any person to use and got to Termina’s Great Bay. If you go there, you will see a few familiar things, only if you’ve played The Legend of Zelda:Majora’s Mask. There will be Tingle the map seller, the turtle who helps you get to the Water Temple and in the backround, the Moon wil be far. you play will observing the moon, he will get closer. Eventualy, like the end, the four giants will come out and push the moon. This is really cool!!!

Hear Chinese Cheers.
This hint will not work if you don’t have the “Sound Test” option. First change the language to Chinese and go to the sound test and the languge will be in Chinese.(It may be a bit hard to find your way to the sound test, so memorize what the menu looks like in English.)Then go down the list and you should hear Chinese cheers. Also go to the character select screen and bowser’s nametag will say Koopa, Jigglypuff as Purin, and DK’s as D.Kong.
The Others

All-Star Mode Stages
Every single character in All-Star mode has a specific stage you fight them in, even if it’s not their stage. Eventually, you will fight two opponents at a time, and ten three opponents at a time. Use the following trick to find out in which stage you are going to fight in. On the little path with the three hearts and the teleporter to the next fight, there are small TV screens that appear behind the teleporter. These screens show you what opponent(s) you are fighting next. When it shows two opponents, you will be in the stage of the one on the left. When it shows three opponents, you will be in the stage of the opponent in the middle.

In race to the finish race untill you get to the place where it splits off into three different paths, take the bottom path. Be careful when jumping to platform to platform. Beat Puffballs Unite (Event 37) Easily!
Beating this event is very difficult because the Kirbys surround you, and it’s hard to hit them. But an easy way to beat it is to get Donkey Kong, and keep Smashing the ground with his fists (Down + B).The Kirbys will go flying whenever they come in range of you.

Fight Giant Kirby In Adventure Mode
If you are trying to score big points in adventure mode, than another easy fight is all that you need. When you are in adventure mode, get half minute man on both the regular kirby and the kirby team, and you will fight giant kirby. He is very easy and a good way to rack up on points.
Get All 3 Fighters To Jump Off On Event 51
First get kirby or jiggilypuff. Then when the match begans fly to a corner. Then when they are all at the corner jump off and fly under the stage. Then Giga Bowser will do his ground smash and fall to his death and sometimes the other 2 will jump off with him. Keep repeating this until they have all died or until they have lost enough lives so that you feel that you can beat them on your own.
Hint: Adventure Mode: Avoid Fighting Link
During Adventure mode, there is a level in which you must find the triforce to end the level. If you encounter Link’s Sword though, you must fight link to proceed. If timed correcltly, you can jump over the sword and not have to fight Link. You must jump very high and far if you do not want to fight him. This can save alot of time.
Hint: Wario Trophy
Successfully complete All-star single playermode without using any continues.
Easier Way To Get Four Maps And Mewtwo
There is a really simple method to get Big Blue, Brinstar Depths, Poke Floats, Fourside, and Mewtwo. Set the Stock to 1, play the Special Melee Mode in Super Sudden Death against a computer level 1 character (someone light-weight, like Jigglypuff or Pichu). As soon as the battle begins, immediately forward smash attack the player to get a K.O. If you’re fast, you can actually get a K.O. in 00:00! The best map to use is Mushroom Kingdom 2 or Kongo Jungles for the K.O.’s. You need to play 200 matches to get the maps, and 700 to get Mewtwo (getting Mewtwo this way should take about 2 hours of gameplay).

Kill Giga Bowser In Event 51!
Here’s some info on how you can finish Event 51 (You gotta use Jigglypuff):
1.) Giga Bowser: Usually, he tries to attack you the most. You've gotta hurt him until he's at least at 30%. Then, defeat him with the sleep attack (Down+B). He'll surely be defeated.2.) Gannondorf: He's the one who usually stays out of the way and tries to attack you. You're best bet on this evil character is luck.3.) Mewtwo: He's the one who gets a lot of the items that appear. When you puff back and forth from edge to edge, make sure Mewtwo is on the edge. He will perform a charge attack, but before he fires, Giga Bowser will push him off the edge, causing him to die.
By the way, the best thing to defeat Event 51 is to hurt the characters with items, then sing them to sleep, then kill them with the sleep attack. This took me a few tries, but I finally finished it! This proves that Jigglypuff IS the Ultimate SSBMelee character. (Funny, I know!)
Dr. Mario
Beat classic mode with Mario. Then he will challenge you. Bet him and he’s earned.
Nana Or Popo
To change from being Nana to Popo (the Ice Climbers) simply change the color of the uniform. The hair style on the two will switch and you are Popo and have the same things Nana had.
Shiek Wins
Use Zelda in Vs. mode. Then press down and B to transform to Shiek but don’t transform back. Win the match and then the announcer will say Shiek Wins!
Easy Way To Beat Puffballs Unite
An easy way to beat the event match Puffballs Unite is to unlock Dr. Mario. Then, go to Puffballs Unite and select Dr. Mario as your character. Use his B up attack on all of the Kirbys. It will kill them easily.
How To Get Birdo Trophy
Play the first level of adventure mode over and over. Then finish adventure mode. It took me a few tries.
Defeating 5 In Cruel Melee
To defeat enemies in creul melee my personal favorite is Roy. Use his up and B move near one of the wire frames. Try to hit them all at once, because if you don’t you will be clobbered on the way down(you know cruel melee, you will probably be killed at 1%, it has happenned to be a couple of times). After defeating 5 of the powerful wire frames, you will recieve the Mr. Rosetti trophy. Try using Roy’s Up and B move near the edge of the battlefield when the wire frames are all clustered up trying to attack you. Some of the male wire frames will take 2 of the move to defeat since they are slightly heavier than the females. Do not give up when hit off, if hit off the perfect distance away from the Battlefield you can double jump and then perform Roy’s Up and B move from below to catch them by suprise, however, this strategy is only for extremely skilled experts. The Mr. Rosetti trophy is quite rare.
Encountering Mew And Celebi In Matches
To encounter Mew and Celebi in a vs. mode match, it is extemely hard, long, and will require a lot of patience. To make this a bit easier try fighting a level 1 computer in vs. mode on either the Mute City or Final Destination stages. Make the match a stock match and set your stock at around 50 or above. Then go to additional rules and go to the item switch option. Turn off all items except poke balls and put the amount of appearring items on very high. Now go to battle. At battle, try not to kill your opponnet yourself, but let the pokemon stampede do it for you. Worry more about getting poke balls than destroying your opponnet. During the match you probably will run into superpowers like Lugia and Ho-oh which will annihalate your opponnet. If you are EXTREMELY lucky you will release either Celebi or Mew out of their poke balls. They do not attack at all. Make sure you are the one who releases either of them, because if the computer controlled player does you will not recieve credit for releasing them. If you release them both at anytime in ay vs. match, you will recieve the Celebi trophy, the rarest trophy of them all!! I had played vs. mode for 42 hours and collected 279 trophies before I achieved the feat of recieving the Celebi trophy so get to battle!!
Mushroom Kingdom 2
To get this stage you will need plenty of coins. Go to the lottery. Put in coins until you get a trophy of Birdo. Now exit the lottery. You will have the Mushroom Kingdom 2. [Note:If you run out of coins, go into classic mode and defeat all opponents. This should give you 10 coins.]
Easy Way To Beat 15 Minute Melee
This is an easy way to beat 15 Minute Melee. Many people say Peach is a character that has no power, but she is good for this. Jump to the top platform (or as high platform as you can at the time), and hold the jump button/hold the stick upwards. Peach will float in the air for a few seconds, making her out of reach of the Wire Frames. In order for it to count, you have to kill at least one Wire Frame (easy enough). When you start the 15 Minute Melee, you start with 4 Wire Frames, but if you kill too many, a 5th wll appear, making it harder to avoid them. I hope this strategy works for you, and Good Luck!
Majora’s Mask Trophy
To get the Majora’s Mask Trophy you must successfuly complete event match #47. The best character to complete this with is Kirby. Just hop into the middle of the stage and press the jump button 3-5 times the pesss down+b at the same time. Repeat these steps until you win. It took me a few times to do this, but now that I have told you the steps it should’nt be to hard.
Earn Secret Stages In A Snap!
You know how getting Flatzone, Big Blue and the Poke Float Stages need 100, 150, and 200 vs. match points to earn, well I have a good way to get them all really easily. First of all you need to have a lot of patience. Then go to the “Custom Rules” icon in the Vs. Mode Catagorie. Change “Time” to “stock” and put it on 1 stock. Then go to the Vs. Mode fighter seclection and vs. the cpu. Pick the fighter of your choice and the cpu’s. Finally start the match. The final step is to jump off the arena when the match first starts. You will die, but, it will record the match on the data chart. Nobody said you had to win the match! Then do this as many times as you need to do to get the new stage. Hey, I told you you needed patience.
Not As Hard As Any One Thinks It Is
To get all the Secret Characters is not a hard feat. I have owned the game for 2 weeks and i have all chars. and all the levels and beaten all event matches. To get Mewtwo is decieving. You dont have to play 20 consecutive hours of Multi player. You have to play a total of 20 hours. THis is simple, it just takes time. To get Mr. Game and watch is simple just beat break the targets with everyone else. When you get mewtwo beat the targets with him and you have mr game and watch. The other levels are easy to get you just need to practice.
Get Doctor Mario
Finish Classic mode on any difficulty as Mario without losing any lives.
BIG Help On 100-Man Melee And Puffball Challenge
Having trouble getting rid of the groups of the less stupid characters (not the ones where you touch them and they go flying)? Well, get Donkey Kong and stay in the middle of the playing field. Then simply use his ground smacking move (down + b rapidly) the entire battle. Hey, I know it hurts. I too tried the Puffball challenge for 45 minutes before trying DK.
Battle The Metal Mario Brothers
In Adventure mode, finish the first stage with a 2, in the ones place, in the timer. You will fight Luigi/Peach instead of Mario/Peach. Defeat Luigi AND Peach. YOU MUST GET ‘HALF-MINUTE-MAN'(defeat opponent in 30 seconds or less)after you have done the above, continue adventure and you’ll fight metal Maio Brothers instead of metal Mario.
How To Beat Teams Easily
When you are in I Player Mode and you pick Adventure (very easy, easy, or normal only) when you get to the Yoshi team you can get close to a Yoshi and just push Z and move the control stick left or right to send them flying! It also works on the purple wire people.

Marth Beam Sword Trick
Since Marth is a swordsman, you would think the beam sword has an effect, and it does. Challange someone as Marth. If they have a “beam sword” do the smash backflip (A up) on the front of the person. You should kick the sword out of their hands and catch it for yourself. (Tip: comes in handy if both weak).

Glitches
Black Hole Glitch
To do this glitch you must have 4 controllers and peach, 2 foxs, one in your team and the other with peach. And any character. First put scope shot. Go to zelda sky place. Then with the random character shoot the scope shot or tap A 3 times. In the fourth shot just before it starts shooting hit the person with the scope shot. This will cause unlimited ammo. Then put the 2 foxxes 5 steps away each. Then have the fox that is in your team get shot at first. But do not stop shooting. After you have do this it will cause an endless reflect reaction. While that is happening have peach use her umbrella right under the reflect reaction until it looks like its going extremely fast. Then throw at least 10 to 15 vegetables at it. The game will slow down but continue. Then if done right it should stay floating in the middle. This will cause extreme hit points up 999 in less then 3 or 2 secs and will throw you away and die. Note: This will cause game to freeze. And if done on gamecube it might never turn on again. I recommend doing it on wii if you have it.
Glitch: No Face.
Go to Home run contest and pick any person (fox is the best) pick up the bat and go behind the sandbag and make damage with the B button and before time runs out hit him the wrong way he will bounce off the wall and win he lands his face will be gone.
