Issues at WBB Las Vegas Invitational (thread):
Teams were told it would be the “Athletes Unlimited setup.” It ended up being the “Athletes Unlimited” court.
No towels were provided and teams were advised to bring down hand towels from their rooms.
No signage of a tournament going on.
Because of only one court at Mirage, teams had shootaround at a middle school gym. (This happens at MTE’s sometimes, but not even a high school gym?!)
The clock had to be reset multiple times/the shot clock constantly became unlplugged.
Folding chairs were set up for fans.
@LVAces just won a WNBA title and had sell outs during playoff run. There are WBB fans in Vegas who likely would’ve shown up had 1. They known about it and 2. Conditions were better suited for a fan experience.
There have been multiple articles released about how it took more than 40 minutes for paramedics to arrive after an Auburn player hit the ground hard. Thankfully Coach Johnnie Harris says the player is alert and responsive.
At the end of the day, it all comes back to the notion that women should be “grateful” to have crumbs.
These MTE’s are huge at beginning of the season to build chemistry/get a great experience at a cool location. It’s a shame teams in the Las Vegas Invitational didn’t get that.
My friend said it best: “this sounds like the Fyre Festival of women’s basketball.”
Also, 6th ranked @IndianaWBB was a part of this tournament. Can you imagine a tournament organizer telling Trayce Jackson-Davis to bring down a hand towel from his room!?
Remember the shameful Las Vegas Invitational tournament a few days back? I did some research on the organizer. And it gets even worse.
Multiple sources (@MAVoepel, @MVanTryon, @MattPress23 ) list Bryce McKey as the organizer.
Who is Bryce McKey?
McKey currently coaches an AAU basketball team in Ohio, per @GoodmanHoops.
McKey has been a prominent name in women's basketball for a while, especially in Ohio, where he was previously an assistant coach with @XavierWBB. He then moved on to @TerpsWBB.
His stint at Maryland was short-lived, as he resigned after he was accused of sexually abusing a player he coached at Xavier.
Later a second player he coached made similar accusations.
In the bench trial, the second player was not allowed to testify, and the judge claimed that while the player objected to being touched by McKey, she didn't object enough. Didn't object enough...
McKey was found not guilty.
Bad playing conditions aside, why would universities, responsible for the well-being of student-athletes, schedule tournaments through an organizer with a history that calls into question the safety of collegiate women athletes? Do ADs research these people and events at all?
Indiana coach @TeriMoren spoke of the importance of growing the game, and that the tournament pushed it a few steps back.
I'm sure that Moren and other coaches were never informed that the tournament organizer had been credibly accused of abusing players just like their own.
Tldr; organizer of awful Las Vegas Invitational has been accused of sexual abuse by two former college basketball players he coached.
#HOLY SHIT THIS IS SO FUCKED UP#dude should be in jail!!! he should not be coaching AAU youth basketball!!! and he should not be promoted by the fucking NCAA!!!#ncaa wbb

Top 10 Best We Bare Bears episodes
So I decided to make a list of the ten best episodes of WBB lately because it’s been burning in my brain the last couple days. There’s a lot of great episodes and they really pull at the heartstrings as well as make you laugh. With that said, let’s dive down.
10. “Everyday Bears” (This is actually the original pilot done a bit better. It better introduces the bears and tells us a bit more about their personalities. Plus Ice meets the Roomba for the first time.)
9. “Emergency” (Ice trying to cut his ear off after Craboo latches onto him was a bit hysterical but that’s as cruel as saying I laughed when Harry took a crotch shot with a door knob at the end of “Wonderdrugs”. But more to the point, the hilarious way the guys were trying to get Ice to the hospital and Grizz getting blocked by 911 because he asked how to get a crab off a polar bear is hysterical in itself plus Ice running all over the cave. Again, Harry taking a crotch shot. But still.)
8. “Burrito” (Talk about tug at your heartstrings. Oh, baby Grizz and Adult Grizz with that big burrito that resembled the fireman’s arm. And Panda and Ice thinking it was far worse than a repressed childhood memory. Shame on them.)
7. “The Road” (The first Baby bears episode. The granola guy stole their box and they had to get another in the middle of THIS DESEAWT! as baby Grizz pronounced. Pure, cute and singing reggae trout. What more do you want?)
6. “Yuri and the Bear” (Another tearjerker. Oh, poor baby Ice. I hope that knowing now who Yana is the progeny of, you’ll be reunited at least one more time.)
5. “Losing Ice” (Panda and Grizz learn that they’ve taken Ice for granted in the best way possible when Ice leaves to work at an Osaka grill. The game that was based on this episode came out before the episode even premiered so that has to mean something.)
4. “Occupy Bears” (We learn how the guys got the cave as people are about to try and destroy it to put in a new power tower. Nothing else to be said here.)
3. “Primal” (Ice and Panda acting like they’ll starve because they’ve been away for only a few hours from civilization is so hilarious, especially when they think about cannibalizing Grizz.)
2. “Baby bears on a Plane” (The baby bears on a plane they believe is headed for Sweden, Ice junior piloting it when the engines blow, Panda getting patronized by a younger baby, and Grizz hanging out with and comforting his favorite action hero makes this too cute NOT to put on this list.)
1. “Icy Nights” and “Icy Nights II” (It has action, Ice’s emotions with the Roomba, presumed romance in each episode and the biggest plot twist at the end of “Icy Nights II”. FUCKING EPIC AS FUCK DUDES!!!!!)

March Madness hit women’s basketball early with 7 huge upsets
When SEVEN top-25 teams fall to unranked foes in 12 hours, you know it’s a good slate of basketball.
A little bit of pre-March madness took hold just about everywhere this past Sunday, when seven women’s basketball teams ranked in the AP Top 25 dropped games to unranked opponents. The Pac-12 was hit the hardest with three of its six top-25 teams taking an L — but the SEC, ACC and Big East also saw improbable losses to some of their most dominant teams, meaning that for the zillionth time this year, the poll will likely be in mild chaos. Either way, these match-ups (and how teams pick up the pieces) are certainly something to keep in mind as bracket-crafting season draws closer.
7) No. 12 DePaul at Villanova, 58-76
Two days after they took down Marquette, the No. 2 team in the Big East, the Villanova Wildcats handed DePaul their second conference loss of the season in a game where the Blue Demons never really seemed to have a shot. Though the Wildcats shot 50 percent from the floor and held a normally sharp-shooting DePaul team to 8 percent from three, the real poetry of the game was on the sideline: the unlikely victory came in Villanova head coach Harry Perretta’s last regular-season home game after 42 seasons with the squad. To up the emotional ante, Villanova junior Cameron Onken earned the second triple-double in program history with 12 points, 10 assists and 18 rebounds in what will be one of her final games with the team (she was accepted to dental school) — hopefully, tissues were on hand.
Thank you for 42 years, @VUCoachPerretta!✌️ pic.twitter.com/LZ7MhSJ1mQ

6) No. 11 Arizona at Colorado, 38-50
Without leading scorer Aari McDonald, who is currently day-to-day with a leg injury, Arizona looked lost — particularly in the last six minutes of the game, when Colorado went on a 15-0 run to reclaim the lead and ultimately the upset. The Wildcats’ first loss of the season to an unranked team came via the 16-11 Buffaloes, who more than anything else just dramatically out-rebounded Arizona, 48-27.
Left it all on the floor and it showed. @CUBuffsWBB pulled off a hard fought senior day victory, 50-38, upsetting No. 11 Arizona in Boulder. pic.twitter.com/59fDKRJfK6

5) No. 21 Arizona State at Utah, 71-75
Arizona State had a reasonable lead going into the half, but then Utah pulled out a vintage Golden State Warriors-esque third quarter with six threes (from five different Utes!) and essentially sealed the game.

4) No. 22 Arkansas at Florida, 80-83
The Gators led for the entire game, despite Arkansas cutting the lead to one point with one minute left. Florida kept fighting and walked away with an anything-but-fluky win, their second victory of the season versus a ranked opponent.

3) No. 8 UCLA at Washington, 68-74
The Huskies didn’t let their losing record keep them from successfully challenging the skidding Bruins for the entire game — 41 points from the bench, led by Rita Pleskevich going 6-for-6 with 15 points, cemented the Washington W.

2) No. 17 Florida State at Georgia Tech, 62-65
In her first year as the head coach, Nell Fortner has led the Yellow Jackets to more top-25 victories than they had earned in their previous five seasons combined thanks to this W over Florida State. The game was tight all the way through, but FSU’s struggles from the free throw line (they shot 58.3 percent) helped ultimately seal it for Georgia Tech.

1) Alabama at No. 9 Mississippi State, 64-66
The wildest of the day’s upsets came down to a heartbreaking and extraordinary (depending on who you were talking to) buzzer beater on the Bulldogs’ home turf. Not content to ride a 64-64 game into overtime, the Crimson Tide tipped the ball in with 0.8 seconds left on the game clock — capping off a game in which they shot 64 percent (!) from the three point line.

Games to watch this week
No. 3 Oregon at No. 4 Stanford (February 24, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN2)
Oregon has been steamrolling people the way we expected they would — can Stanford, the reigning conference champs, force the issue in this Pac-12 tournament preview?
No. 22 Arkansas at No. 9 Mississippi State (February 27, 9 p.m. ET, SECN)
Both teams need to bounce back with a big win before the SEC Tournament, so this one could get pretty scrappy.
No. 16 Texas A&M at No. 1 South Carolina (March 1, 12 p.m. ET, ESPN2)
It should be a garbage-time game for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks since they’ve already secured the SEC regular-season title, but Dawn Staley doesn’t really do garbage-time games — especially when the national spotlight is on as it will be for this one. Look out for some of the craftiest guards in the league — Chennedy Carter and Ty Harris — going head to head.
