As someone who grew up sort of farm-adjacent (never lived on a farm, but my mom grew up one one and I grew up in a small community where farming was a big part of the local economy so I’ve had many summer jobs on farms) it’s always DEEPLY funny to me but also kind of sad whenever I see someone post to r/stardewvalley that they loved the game so much they bought a real-ass mini-farm. Like. Bruh. That’s like saying “I’ve been loving this lil Tamogatchi so I decided to get my first real, live pet!!!” and the pet in question is like an elderly, special needs dog who’s blind and has a strict and expensive medication regiment and is overall just not really a beginner’s best option like HOLY SHIT I want to give these folks the benefit of the doubt and be like “they’re adults, they know what they’re getting themselves into, I’m sure they’ve done enough research for this to go well!!” but I fucking doubt they’ve thought about how much it SUCKS to plant and water and weed and harvest a whole-ass garden by hand, or to get up at 4:00 AM to milk cows (maybe before going to work, because it’ll take a good long while to turn an actual profit), or to just generally never get to take a day off because you’re too tired to go out and feed the chickens. I wish ‘em well but damn.
