hello - I keep seeing people around saying that it's really hard to find the "fuzzy felt" moomin series anywhere. is this true? should I do something about it? (<- guy who has the entire thing on DVD in german and english. this is in fact the only exposure to moomin media I've had ever - I just recently found out they're a giant phenomenon and not just from the charming tv series I watched when I was 6)

Duuuuude the English/German 7-disc full DVD set can sell for £80+ on eBay it's highly sought after!!

and uhhh yeah it certainly is more difficult to find than it used to be, cause there was a site called fuzzyfeltmoomins.co.uk that had all the English episodes on it, but was unfortunately taken down (most likely copyright bs). now there's only select episodes on different video sites, rather than just one place to find them all, so it's hard to find them. i've just been hoping to get my hands on the 7-disc dvd set but it's kinda impossible to at a reasonable price 😂

it'd be wonderful if you COULD do something about it! you'd have to be very careful to not get it flagged for copyright, though!

Today, October 1st, is Mikuni’s birthday!! A Libra, his favorite food is Stollen (a traditional German Christmas bread, filled with fruits, nuts, and often a log of almond marzipan at the center. It originated from Saxony!) and his favorite drink is Royal Milk Tea! If you go to TanakaBox, he even has a line in Land of Nod recommending Fortnum and Mason’s blend for purchase. They ship internationally, so if you’re a Mikuni fan, give them a try!

His symbolic Tarot Arcana is The High Priestess, the second of the major arcana. Upright, this arcana represents the unknown, mystery, and the subconscious mind. She also represents duality and balance. Reversed she represents secrecy and being willfully ignorant of what your gut is telling you. Interestingly, she, like the Empress, has strong associations in occult circles with women and “feminine energy,” as they put it. While the Priestess is numbered 2, because of the Fool being 0, she’s actually the third of the major arcana, and follows the Magician, the Arcana which represents C3 as a whole

His favorite colors are amber, daffodil yellow, and peridot

In one of the Fanbox drawings, he has a tiny snufkin charm on his bag while at the airport, so he’s a fan of the Moomins. Since Snufkin is a character who travels around a lot and often leaves Moomin Valley, he might feel a certain kinship with the little fellow.

He has two character songs, a solo named “Departing from 0,” and a duet with Misono, “Spiral Pensé”

His Japanese seiyuu is Kakihara Tetsuya, who also provides the character voice for Natsu Dragneel from Fairytail, Scaramouche in the Japanese Dub of genshin impact, and Prompto from Final Fantasy 15, to name some of his more well known roles. I think this guy started to get type cast at some point (www)

Now, the Movies/Shows

(I could talk about these for AGES but I'll do that after I finish the main stuff ahahaha)

Die Muminfamilie -- 1959-1960 -- West German T.V. series, black and white. They were puppets!!

Mūmin -- 1969-1970 -- this. This was. Interesting. It was a 65-episode long anime, but never got popular due to the fact of... how it was made. THEY HAD GUNS. THEY HAD TANKS. SNUFKIN SNIPED A BIRD OUT OF THE AIR. (Also the characters differed WILDLY from the originals. Both in personality and designs.)

Shin Mūmin (not pictured) -- 1972 -- basically a remake of the OG Mūmin in order to make it more kid-friendly. Though it still differed greatly, it followed the book storylines closer.

Mumintrollet (I think I accidentally did two pictures whoops) -- 1969-1970 -- a live-action series written by Tove and her brother, featuring costumes!!

Opowiadania Muminków -- 1978-1980 in Poland, Germany and Austria, 1983-1985 in the UK -- THIS. THIS WAS MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD. I AM ILL FOR THESE SILLIES SPECIFICALLY. It was many stop-motion animated episodes based on the books, and they're known as the "fuzzy felt moomins" due to the fact they were mainly made of materials. The intro music hit HARD.

Mumi-troll i Kometa -- 1978 -- an 18-minute animation based on Comet in Moominland by a Soviet Union production company.

Shlyapa Volshebnika -- 1980-1983 -- ...We do not speak of these Moomins. They were made by a Soviet Union company, based off of Finn Family Moomintroll. (Duck Snufkin. *shudders*)

Moomin -- 1990-1992 -- Probably the most popular! This was an anime, and it has been where most of the Moomins memes come from. Things like "let's go fill Moominvalley with crime," Moomin with a knife, etc. I don't know what else to say, man. It's just. Really cool.

Moominvalley -- 2019-present -- Still currently going on, with a new season planned to come out later this year. It's a 3D animation, and honestly? One of my favorites. They REALLY highlight things well, such as Snork being heavily implied to be on the autism spectrum and HOLY SHIT WHEN I TELL YOU THEY MADE SNUFKIN AND MOOMIN SO PAINFULLY GAY- ahem.

this gave me Moomin in Midwinter vibes. as in the Groke visiting and leaving an icecold trail behind her. it's an amazing fic that leaves you in suspense until the very end!

December 25th, 1944. In a desperate move, German soldiers attack the American positions in Bastogne. Some members of Easy Company are separated from their allies and encircled, cut off from any help. With their time slowly running out, some tough decisions are going to be made, whether they like it or not. December 26th, 1944. While flying home after another successful mission, four planes are hit by the flak, and their crews are forced to bail out over the frontline somewhere in Belgium. With crew members scattered in the snowy forest, not knowing if they are heading in the right direction, or straight towards the German positions, not everyone is going to get out unscathed.

this one was so good! it gave me this dreadful pit in my stomach that just kept growing and growing until... I had to lie down and just stare at the ceiling after finishing it. So good.

Vampires in Bastogne by Arwen88

In war, nobody would really notice if a vampire had gone around bleeding out the occasional enemy soldier. He would just be a random soldier, dead and covered in blood, pale and looking horrified in death. They would see one of their own kneeling close to an enemy, giving them his back, and they would think he was searching the corpse for something valuable, would totally miss that he was actually biting them.

or are there? this one leaves you guessing! you're truly just as in the dark as Gene himself. Another one of favourites. And the End! OMG.

Eugene doesn't know if there's a point to actually trying anymore. No one listens to him and it's not as if he can actually change anything. But then Heffron starts acting strange and for a moment Eugene allows himself to hope, because if someone else is stuck in this god-forsaken loop of death and misery, maybe there's a chance after all.

Time loop au! another very interesting concept of Easy being stuck in a bastogne timeloop until they all make it out.
