Ladies of House Lannister:
Gerana*, daughter of Johanna
*This is the eldest of three unnamed daughters of Johanna (née Westerling), sisters of Cerelle and Tyshara and Loreon. We don't know her name so I've chosen Gerana for her. We also don't know the birth order of the sisters so I'm presuming the order is Cerelle, Tyshara, Gerana.

Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses 16 (trans. Celoria) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) : "Among the people we call Pygmaioi (Pygmies) there was born a girl called Oinoe (Oenoe) who was of flawless beauty but she was graceless by nature and overweening. She cared not a rap for Artemis and Hera. She was married to one of the citizens, Nikodamos (Nicodamus), a good and sensible man, and gave birth to a child called Mopsos (Mopsus). And all the Pygmaioi, who loved to show kindliness, brought her many gifts to celebrate the birth of the child. But Hera found fault with Oinoe for not honouring her and turned her into a crane, elongated her neck, ordained that she should be a bird that flew high. She also caused war to arise between her and the Pygmaioi. Yearning for her child Mopsos, Oinoe flew over houses and would not go away. But all the Pygmaioi armed themselves and chased her away. Because of this there arose a state of war then as well as now between the Pygmaioi and the cranes."
Aelian, On Animals 15. 29 (trans. Scholfield) (Greek natural history C2nd A.D.) : "As to the race of Pygmaioi (Pygmies) I have heard that they are governed in a manner peculiar to themselves, and that in fact owing to the failure of the male line a certain woman became queen and ruled over the Pygmaioi; her name was Gerana, and the Pygmaioi worshipped her as a god, paying her honours too august for a human being. The result was, they say, that she became so puffed up in her mind that she held the goddesses of no account. It was especially Hera, Athena, Artemis, and Aphrodite that, she said, came nowhere near her in beauty. But she was not destined to escape the evil consequences of her diseased imagination. For in consequence of the anger of Hera she changed her original form into that of a most hideous bird and became the crane of today and wages war on the Pygmaioi because with their excessive honours they drove her to madness and to her destruction."
Ovid, Metamorphoses 6. 90 (trans. Melville) (Roman poet C1st B.C. to C1st A.D.) : "The Pygmaea (Pygmy) matron's doom, her pitiable doom, when Juno [Hera] won the contest and transformed her to a crane and made her fight her folk, her kith and kin."
Were there any actual “Pygmy” ethnic groups that had beef with cranes or is this classic Ancient Greek racism?

2022 SUMMARY OF ART!!!!
JAN/FEB
it was a really slow start this year... in january i didnt actually finish anything, all i have to show for that period is a single flight rising drawing -- i had another one, but it's now Lost Media (sadly) from when i got my new PC.
(more recounting under da cut! i've included a lot of unposted/unfinished sketches down here!)
MARCH
march was a lot of desperate attempts to get back into drawing by sketching out little character designs i never posted, mostly wizards. that wizard right there is my favourite of the bunch. Fantastic energy from this creature.
APRIL
april is when i started getting into working on Gnome Lore that i have on my site, gnomes.neocities.org! gnomes are my special interest so the enthusiasm of learning about gnome mythology/history, and my own ideas for gnomes, actually got me COLOURING PIECES. incredible feeling.
this was the back end of my flight rising fixation, and included a few humanised sketches of my dragons Mirth and Gerana, pictured above. i was also getting really into WoW again at this time, so there were plenty of little wow-inspired sketches. + a bonus Jurgen from sam and max in the bottom left!
MAY
the gnoments (gnome moments) carried on into the month of may as i designed other known mythological creatures. i also rehashed a beloved old DnD gnome OC called April and included her in that lore. love that lil gal.
during this month i got really into working on my neocities page, and so a lot of art i did was assets for that. you can see a majority of my May drawings over there on the lore page. :-)
JUNE
june was a month of OC swag for me. i was totally inspired in the month leading up to ArtFight and put my heart into character design! from this beautiful month i got one of my new favourite pieces, shown there, of my ocs ZAP! APPLE and STEP KID. they're inspired by the band The Avalanches, specifically the album Wildflower. during this month i also created some of my newest and favourite OCs such as RANBOLIN, Beanie Boy, and Professor PJ!
during this i also did some new art for characters like irene, nadia, and D.A. Private Eye. i think a vast majority of this can be found in my "ocs" tag...
JULY
and here it comes.... my traditional Best Month for art. i was popping off HARD this month even though i didn't do as much as last time. i am SO happy with everythign that came out of this year's artfight, deeply. here are some of my favourite pieces from that period:
i was really into one-layer drawings this year. these were all done on two layers MAX, with the binary brush on sai. it really pushed me to be creative with my colours and detailing, and it's become one of my favourite ways to draw.
YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED. that the art for july features a certain Recurring Character. this is because in the month or so prior i had begun rewatching Naruto with my brothers. although the full-force naruto hyperfixation didn't settle in until months later this was the beginning of it. Rotating gaara in my mind always.
AUGUST
hmm... august got quite slow again. i might have been burnt out from going so hard in the other couple months. i have a few odd doodles from that month aside from the birthday gift to @l0gitex you see there, including THESE:
i also started developing a naruto OC when some brainrot started to settle in. their name is kodama, after the tree spirits. i wanted them to be from konoha, you know, to match -- originally i wanted them to have that wood type stuff, but recently i've been thinking that something to do with funghi and mycelium networks might be really interesting, especially due to their connection with trees, and how kodama live inside trees. these were some outfit concepts but i think i'll change their colour palette to match konoha more. more blues and browns i think.
SEPTEMBER
the dawn of my BRIEF SPLATOON ERA! i haven't played since that month LMAOOOOO! anyways, i drew a few splatoon-related pictures in that time.
birth of Blupi. as well as this September is the beautiful month in which i began to learn using Blender. here's a little ref drawing for the gaara model! (why do i keep doing stuff with gaara?????):
i was so proud of how that model came out. i had some other models of OCs like tomato cloun and one of ranbolin i never finished rigging (i hate weight painting so much oh my god-)
OCTOBER
man i wish halloween was like, anything here. during this month i started working again on my gnomes page so there were some more little designs done, visible on the lore page! specifically, the boggart and warren gnome were from October, as well as Awesome Rando.
NOVEMBER
november was kind of an epic month for my OCs, actually! alongside my interest in naruto REALLY starting to fire up again i was redrawing and bringing back older OCs as well as bringing in beloved Clary! here are Ranbolin and Dee as well. <3 let's go girls
beyond this the naruto brainrot had really settled in. so i began drawing my favourite characters: you know who. happy birthday Rock Lee!
DECEMBER
OHHHHHHHH HERE WE GOOOOOOOOO!!!! DEPTHS OF HYPERFIXATION STRIKE!! i know i've posted a lot of art lately, and i'm so excited that i have -- i didn't know if i'd ever get this stoked again since earlier in the summer but i am so INTO IT RN!!!!!
check out this hinata wip:
awesome thing about being fixated is i tend to finish a lot more of my drawings, it really carries my enthusiasm. so i'm hoping to have this picture finished soon! if not, many more will be finished in its place.
man if you read all of this ur a real one, thank you so much. i'm so excited to see what comes in art for 2023!!!!! MY wicked hands will concoct such bountiful imagery. I can feel it

Was durchaus möglich ist, da in soll. GERANA
In Greek mythology, Gerana, also known as Oenoe, was a queen who boasted to be more beautiful than Hera and was transformed by the angry goddess into a crane. The bird descendants of Gerana waged an eternal war on her people during their winter migration to the shores of the river Oceanus.

I love your blog so much. It brings me joy in these troubling times. Have you ever covered Pliny the Elder's claims that cranes fly south seasonally to fight their mortal enemies - dwarves that ride tiny horses? That tidbit threw me the hardest when reading his book, and I've always wondered where it came from?
This is a tricky one! The passage in question (supposedly describing India), for anyone unfamiliar:
Beyond these people, and at the very extremity of the mountains, the Trispithami and the Pygmies are said to exist; two races which are but three spans in height, that is to say, twenty-seven inches only. They enjoy a salubrious atmosphere, and a perpetual spring, being sheltered by the mountains from the northern blasts; it is these people that Homer has mentioned as being waged war upon by cranes. It is said, that they are in the habit of going down every spring to the sea-shore, in a large body, seated on the backs of rams and goats, and armed with arrows, and there destroy the eggs and the young of those birds; that this expedition occupies them for the space of three months, and that otherwise it would be impossible for them to withstand the increasing multitudes of the cranes. Their cabins, it is said, are built of mud, mixed with feathers and egg-shells. Aristotle, indeed, says, that they dwell in caves; but, in all other respects, he gives the same details as other writers (Natural History, 7.2)
Like it says, the earliest mention of Crane Warfare comes from the Iliad:
Now when they were marshalled, the several companies with their captains, the Trojans came on with clamour and with a cry like birds, even as the clamour of cranes ariseth before the face of heaven, when they flee from wintry storms and measureless rain, and with clamour fly towards the streams of Ocean, bearing slaughter and death to Pygmy men (Loeb edition, III.1-6)
but that’s pretty clearly a reference the audience is expected to recognize, rather than the origin of the belief. It does seem to be a reasonably common cultural touchstone, since crane fights show up everywhere from Aesop’s fables to the famous François Vase:
as well as other less famous comic pottery, like this wine jug:
[© Marie-Lan Nguyen / Wikimedia Commons]
My best guess would be that it arose out of a combination of real crane migrations and confused early anthropology, but I 100% have animal-focused tunnel vision and this is brushing up against the edges of my knowledge, so if any classicists have more/better info I’d love to hear it!
[Literary Digression: around the 2nd c. CE, there’s an interesting shift towards mythological explanations for the war that start with Hera/Juno transforming a woman into a crane as punishment for her hubris.
It shows up in Ovid as a passive aggressive warning from Minerva to Arachne during their weaving contest:
And then, to give Arachne an idea / of the reward this upstart can expect / for her audacious bid for praise and glory, / the goddess then expertly represents / in each of the four corners of her work, / a different contest [...] in the second corner she depicted / the terrifiying fate of the pygmy queen: / when Juno had defeated her, she ordered / her to transform herself into a crane / and then make war upon her former subjects (Metamorphoses, Charles Martin translation, 6.116-131)
The grammarian Antoninus Liberalis gives the story (probably unintentional) tragicomic notes by having the newly crane-ified woman follow her son around until her tribe gets so sick of the constant moping that they chase her off & declare war on all cranes:
But Hera found fault with Oinoe for not honouring her and turned her into a crane, elongated her neck, ordained that she should be a bird that flew high. She also caused war to arise between her and the Pygmaioi. Yearning for her child Mopsos, Oinoe flew over houses and would not go away. But all the Pygmaioi armed themselves and chased her away. Because of this there arose a state of war then as well as now between the Pygmaioi and the cranes (Metamorphoses, 16)
& my boy Aelian is as extra as always:
a certain woman became queen and ruled over the Pygmies; her name was Gerana, and the Pygmies worshipped her as a god, paying her honours too august for a human being. The result was, they say, that she became so puffed up in her mind that she held the goddesses of no account. It was especially Hera, Athena, Artemis, and Aphrodite that, she said, came nowhere near her in beauty. But she was not destined to escape the evil consequences of her diseased imagination. For in consequence of the anger of Hera she changed her original form into that of a most hideous bird and became the crane of today and wages war on the Pygmies because with their excessive honours they drove her to madness and to her destruction (On Animals, 15.29)]

Sixth Wing Bulwark (Warpriest Archetype)
(Trying out Pixabay stock images for the time being)
To fight to defend others is a noble and valiant pursuit, any paladin and goodly warpriest knows this. Thus the shield is a considered a sacred symbol of that self-risking act.
If this sounds a bit familiar, it’s because we did another shield-focused warpriest archetype a few weeks ago: the shieldbearer.
The sixth wing bulwark, or perhaps just bulwark in setting-neutral environs, has it’s own connotations, as their symbol is typically a winged shield, a symbol of protection that rushes quickly to the aid of those in need, which is exactly what these warpriests are all about, offering aid both by standing between the innocent and danger when they can, and sending their protection afar when their bodies cannot make it in time.
Strongly associated with the Empyreal Lord Ragathiel, the General of Vengeance, the patron of chivalry, duty, and vengeance. However, these bulwarks often focus on the first two aspects, with the third only coming into play when their defenses fail to protect, a personal failing they aim to swiftly extract some manner of justice for. In your setting, they might be bound to a different divinity, or be available to multiple.
Regardless, the burning shields they carry hovering between an attacker and their victim can be a source of sudden relief, as help is definitely on the way.
Not only are these holy warriors proficient in tower shields, but they have an exceptional focus on mastering shields of all types.
In addition to this, divine grace helps them carry their shield, making it light and mobile, and therefore helping the warpriest move and act more easily. However, they can also channel the blessing of their faith to bolster the protection the shield offers, reducing the impact of wounds and protecting the wielder from fire. Furthermore, while that protection is active, they can send the shield from their arm, carried on wings of fire, to protect another, providing it’s full benefits, magical and mundane, to that ally or ward. The shield is held in place by a continuous gesture and divine power, and when either ends, the effect ends, though the warpriest can call it back before that.
While the shield is protecting another, the warpriest can use it as a conduit, channeling their various healing, blessings, and touch spells to the one being protected through mere proximity to the shield.
With a bit of fervor, a sixth wing bulwark can activate their shield’s blessing at the same time they bless their armor.
That same fervor can be expended as well to instantly trade places with an ally via teleportation, as long as there is a straight line between them. Though not fast enough to intercept a blow, imagine the enemy’s surprise to be facing a considerably well-armored foe.
The most powerful of these warriors find their shield leaping to their defense even if they are not aware of the threat, activating their blessing or even rushing out to block a strike within seconds.
This archetype is great for a tanking build, but it also helps mitigate one of the biggest weaknesses of tanks: mobility. By casting their shield out, they can protect allies from enemies coming in from other angles until they themselves can move in to support, or continue fighting another dangerous foe. I recommend feats like Bodyguard and In Harm’s Way, as well as other classic defensive staples.
Even if you don’t have Ragathiel in your setting, the idea of a fiery god or goddess of light, fire, and justice is so ubiquitous that it is easily replaced. That being said, it doesn’t take much to alter this archetype to suit a less fiery sort of divinity, so keep that in mind.
In Cenvelon, it is water, not fire, that is associated with divine protection. This is perfectly evidenced by Gerana, a naiad who devoted her life to the Impervious Shell after being saved from slavery by the clergy. She now bears a shield of shell made from a rare, opalescent mollusk, and wields blessed blade and water against interlopers.
A shield cannot protect from internal threats. Such did Eirna of Locksford discover when the innocent she was trying to protect was actually another victim of the griefgall infestation plaguing a remote village. Now just another slave of the plants, it will take a party versed in slaying parasites and resisting mental magics to free her and the village.
The party has a mission to perform a hit and run assault to drag enemy forces deeper into the twisting alleyways for a series of ambushes. Thankfully, they won’t have to go it alone. A holy bulwark soldier has been assigned to them, adding his shield to keep them from being brought down.

Was durchaus möglich ist, da in soll.
