As Green announced that he’d only be having three concerts in 2023, one of those venues is the storied Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. Red Rocks routinely draws music fans from across the country and beyond, but it doesn’t seem like that fully mattered to…

Saturday! It was such a magical night. I pretty much took myself on my perfect date.
It started out slow, I slept in and didn't get out of bed till after 11am. I had some caffeine and did some writing. After that I ran to Target to get some bike shorts to wear under my skirt. I also got some snacks for the morning since I had to leave relatively early to catch my flight back home on Sunday.
I had dinner at the Boathouse on the second floor of the Double Tree. It was a lot fancier than I thought it would be. I ordered ice tea and it came in a stemmed glass. I had a really nice view of the Charles River. The stuffed lamb was really good. So was the rest of the food.
After dinner I went down to Sculler's Jazz Club on the first floor. The tables next to mine were occupied by a bunch of ladies and we all kind of merged into one group. We talked and laughed before the show started. Gerald Albright was the artist, I would recommend seeing him if you have a chance. It was good music with a bunch of new friends. I'm always surprised on my solo trips that a lot of the time I find random people to talk to. Even when not staying at a hostel.
Solo travel can be lonely at times, but other times you just run into the right people at the right place. I had an amazing time in Boston the music, shopping, and history were all superb.
The flight home was uneventful. I got a lot of writing done in my journal, listened to some soft jazz and took a nap. I'll try to do a complete trip summery later this week.
Safe travels everyone ☺️

The Bookworm and the Beast [part 40]
A dark Scarecrow/Fem!OC romance fanfic
Intro [with Ao3 link] First Previous
"It is the opinion of I, Doctor Veronica Holland, Department Psychologist for the GCPD, that Isabel Vasilisa Warren is unfit to stand trial due to Stockholm Syndrome acquired while being held captive by Jonathan Gerald Crane, also known as the Scarecrow. In my expert opinion, she should be treated mentally for this disorder until such time that she is deemed to be fit to stand trial. I recommend this treatment should take place at Williams Medical Center, as the presence of her previous captor in the same building would be unconducive to her recovery if such an outcome is even possible given the depth of the disorder." Doctor Holland looked up from her written statement to the Commissioner and Detectives standing around the room.
"Thank you, Dr. Holland," Commissioner Gordon said with a tired tone, "you may go."
The doctor left, and Gordon rubbed his eyes. "First Miss Albright, now her."
"At least Crane didn't kill this one," Montoya replied. "I talked to her. She's a good girl, just confused."
"That doesn't excuse what she did," Detective Allen, Montoya's partner of just under a year, said.
"Never said it did, Allen, but it does help explain it. Crane is a sick, twisted man. He probably took pleasure in breaking and then remolding her."
"Most likely, Montoya," Gordon said, standing up. "But still, that is for a Jury to decide if she ever goes to court. Right now, you two get your car and take Miss Warren to Williams. The sooner she begins getting treatment, the better."
"Yes, sir," Montoya and Allen replied. The two detectives left the Commissioner to his work. Allen went to the garage to get their shared department car while Montoya headed towards lock up to collect Miss Warren. When Montoya arrived Miss Warren was just finishing the tea that the uniformed officer had brought her. At the sight of the detective, the other woman smiled. Montoya smiled in return but internally she was sighing. Why was it that the only girls she had a chance to get to know were on the force or behind bars? It was a shame, Isabel Warren was a nice girl. If they had met under different circumstances, she would have been precisely Montoya's type.
"Detective," Isabel said, standing. "I did not expect you back so soon, is something wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong, Miss Warren. The psychologist gave her report and we are moving you."
Isabel's smile faded a bit. "Ah, I see. And where are you moving me to?"
"Williams Medical Center," Montoya replied as she cuffed Isabel and took her from the cell. "It is a mental health hospital, or mental care home, as they prefer."
There was no smile left on Isabel's face at that information. "Well, thank you for telling me, Detective."
"Renee," Montoya said as they walked out of the holding cells and towards the back of the GCPD where Allen would be waiting. "Call me Renee."
"Why? Isn't that unprofessional?"
"It could be. But I like you, Miss Warren, I can tell you are a good person. I may be a police detective, and you are involved with Crane, but I want you to think of me as a friend."
"Oh," Isabel smiled. "Thank you, Renee, that would be nice. You may call me Isabel."
"Isabel," Renee said, smiling herself. They were out of the GCPD by now, and Detective Allen was waiting for them in the car. Montoya opened the rear door for Isabel, and she entered without fuss. Once Montoya got into the front, Allen took off.
With each minute that the drive continued, Isabel became a bit more panicked. This was truly happening. She was going to be locked away. Locked away in a mental asylum. By the time the car stopped outside of Williams Medical Center, Isabel was shaking.
"Hey, Isabel," Montoya said as she took Isabel by the arm to guide her in. "You'll be okay. This place is way better than Arkham. You'll be treated right here."
"I hope you are right. Jonathan told me about what happens in Arkham." Isabel replied after taking a steadying breath.
"Alright, come on," Allen said to the pair. He was already at the doors talking to an orderly. Isabel and Montoya went up to the center's door. An orderly and nurse greeted them.
"Hello, Miss Warren; I am Nurse Sanchez. I will be processing you while the detectives check you in and sign all the right paperwork."
As Montoya handed her over to the nurse, Isabel was shaking a bit again. The nurse began leading her away, and Isabel looked back to Montoya. "Bye, thanks for the tea."
Montoya said farewell too, but Isabel only caught the first half as the nurse pulled her into a side room for processing. This room smelt of heavy anti-septics and was stark white except for a few posters on the wall with cheery platitudes of hope. There was another nurse inside, and she smiled at Isabel. "Hello there, you must be Miss Warren. Could you read this for me?"
The new nurse handed Isabel a clipboard, and Isabel began to read. She did not get far before a sudden, all too familiar feeling in her arm. Blinking, Isabel looked over at Nurse Sanchez holding an empty syringe in her hand. It took a second before the sedative hit her system. Isabel stumbled back slightly, but the two nurses caught her by the arms, steadying her.
"Do not worry, Miss Warren, it is procedure. It makes processing much easier for everyone. Now, if you could come this way…."
Isabel did not have much choice as the two nurses dragged her behind a curtain. The two nurses then began to undress her forcefully. When she was naked, they pushed her into a small tiled room with a drain on the floor.
"Now close your mouth and eyes," one of the nurses instructed. Isabel did so just before a cascade of chemically treated water rushed over her. It smelt like a pool that had been too heavily treated with chlorine. Sputtering, Isabel was pulled out of the shower and haphazardly dried with scratchy towels.
"You are doing nicely, Miss Warren."
Isabel was bent over a sink when she heard the sound of an electric razor. "No!" She yelled, struggling against the two nurses. "Leave my hair alone!"
"This is procedure, Miss Warren."
"Settle down."
"No, no, no! Please!" They did not listen, and, despite her struggling, Isabel felt the razor against her flesh. Then the cool air hit her scalp as her long hair was shorn away. By the time they were done, Isabel was crying. The nurses seemed unconcerned at the tears and pressed clothes into her arms. Pushing her behind the curtain, Isabel was told to get dressed.
Crying and shaking again, Isabel slowly got dressed; grey undergarments, white elastic band sweatpants, and a shapeless baby pink blouse. Finally, Isabel slipped her feet into a pair of slipper-like shoes. Wiping the tears from her cheeks, Isabel stepped out from behind the curtain.
"See, that wasn't that bad," Nurse Sanchez said, taking Isabel by the arm again. Isabel did not say anything but shot both nurses a hurt and angry look.
"See you, Carol," the Latina nurse said as she led Isabel out of the room. Sanchez took Isabel to her new room.
"You don't have a roommate yet, so take whatever bed you want. When you've calmed down, there will be an orientation for rules at this facility." Without another word, the nurse left.
Still sniffling, Isabel looked around the room. There were two beds, one by the door and one by the window. Even in her confused and emotional state, Isabel knew which of the two was better. Sitting on the bed nearest the window, Isabel reached up to feel her hair.
It was disgustingly short. Barely an inch long. She hated it. Jonathan would hate it. He loved her long hair.
Suddenly Isabel gasped, her hand flying to her left breast. The note. It had been in her bra still when the nurses had stripped her. For a second, Isabel contemplated asking one of the nurses to get it for her. But then she stopped that train of thought. It would be unwise to bring any more attention to it than necessary. Both she and Jonathan might get in trouble if anyone found it.
Isabel could feel that the sedative she was given was wearing off. With a clearer head, Isabel began looking around the room. There was an end table by the bed, and sitting on top was a folder labeled Welcome to Williams Medical Center. Picking it up, Isabel discovered a map on the first page, but the rest seemed to be dedicated as a rule book. Glad to have something to distract her, Isabel leaned back against the wall and began to read.
~~~~~
It had been two weeks since Isabel had been locked away in Williams Medical Center. No one had found her note from Jonathan; if they had, they did not confront her about it. It was good that she had received another note from Jonathan a few days after she arrived. From his note, it was safe to say that Jonathan was upset that she had wound up in Williams, though he was glad that she was not in Arkham. He was confident that the guards who hated him would have beaten her mercilessly.
Isabel kept Jonathan's note hidden in her room. She had discovered several loose tiles under her bed that she could pull up and hide the note under. There was enough room left over for several more notes too. However, Isabel had yet to receive another note from him. She knew it must be hard for him to sneak notes to her, but she still wished she could hear from him more.
Over the past two weeks, Isabel had continually asked Doctor Kalkett, her psychologist, if she could talk to Jonathan. As they believed Isabel suffered from Stockholm Syndrome, all contact was forbidden between her and Jonathan. Throughout her therapy sessions, though, Isabel was adamant that she was not under the sway of Stockholm Syndrome and that she loved Jonathan. Whenever she said such, the doctor only gave her a false, empty smile and told her, "I am sure you do."
It was this rather flippant doctor that Isabel was now with. They were finishing another fruitless session when the doctor asked an unexpected question. "When do you usually get your periods, Isabel?"
Isabel stared at her for a long second before answering. "It is on a 26-day cycle, so it moves around. This month should be the 13th or 14th…."
She trailed off as she spoke. Batman had found her and Jonathan on the 7th, and she had been put into Williams on the 8th, and it had been two weeks. It was the 22nd, with no period in sight. How had she not realized sooner?
A soft giggle escaped Isabel's lips at the thought. By the look on Doctor Kalkett's face, she had come to the same conclusion as Isabel. Another giggle escaped Isabel as her face split into a grin, and she pressed a hand against her lower stomach.
"It is probably the stress of being in a new environment," the doctor said quickly. "It has been known to happen."
Isabel knew in her heart that the doctor's excuse was not the truth. If her period hadn't been interrupted when Jonathan had initially taken her hostage, it was unlikely that it would now. Also, she wasn't taking any medication yet, so that couldn't be the case. Still, she wanted to be sure before she became too excited. "When can I take a test? I need to know for sure."
Doctor Kalkett sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Yes, we need to know for sure. I do not have another patient for an hour, I will escort you to the infirmary, and we will have the nurses do the test."
"Thank you, Doctor," Isabel said, standing up immediately. The doctor was slower in getting out of her office chair. Isabel waited for the doctor to join her by the door before opening it for both of them. Together they walked down the whitewashed halls; Isabel kept touching her lower stomach and smiling.
They had to cross the recreation room to get to the infirmary, where most patients spent their time if they were not in their rooms or in therapy. A few other patients waved at the pair as they walked through. "Where are you going, Miss Isabel?" a tall and mustached man asked, looking up from his coloring book.
"The infirmary, Mr. Nice," Isabel replied, smiling at the ex-dentist.
"Oh dear, are you ill?"
"No, no." Isabel pressed her hand against her stomach again. "We need to check on something."
Mr. Nice's eyes flashed to her stomach, and he grinned cheerfully. "Alright, well, I hope for the best."
"Thank you, Mr. Nice," Dr. Kalkett said before Isabel could reply. "Come along, Isabel."
Isabel waved farewell to Mr. Nice before setting off with the doctor again. They arrived at the infirmary within a minute of leaving the recreation room. There were two nurses inside, and neither Isabel had met before.
"Doctor, how can we help?" One of them asked.
"We need to take a urine sample from Isabel here and run a pregnancy test," Doctor Kalkett explained. Both nurses looked at Isabel questioningly.
"Alright," the dark-skinned of the two said, fetching a sample cup from a cabinet. "Well, we can't run the test here. We will have to send it out."
"That is fine," Doctor Kalkett said as Isabel was handed the cup. The doctor may have been fine with it, but Isabel was not, though she knew it was the only way. With the cup, Isabel went into the small bathroom in the infirmary.
Once she was done, she closed the lid to the cup and washed her hands before heading back out. The nurses took the cup with ginger fingers and wrote her information before slipping it into a plastic bag in case of leakage. "Okay, we will send this to the lab along with Mr. Boch's stool samples. We should have the results by tomorrow evening."
"Thank you, nurse," Doctor Kalkett said, already halfway to the door. "Isabel, I will go over the results tomorrow with you then."
The doctor left, leaving Isabel with the two nurses. After an awkward few seconds, Isabel waved goodbye to the nurses and thanked them before leaving herself. She was heading back to the recreation room when the infirmary door opened behind her. It was the African nurse.
"Miss Warren," she called, catching up to Isabel. "If I were in your position, I wouldn't want to wait. Here…"
The nurse pressed a long thin box into Isabel's hand. Glancing down, Isabel saw that it was a home pregnancy test. "...I had it in my purse. I can always buy another."
Isabel looked at the nurse. "Thank you. I don't know what to say."
"Just say you won't tell the Doc. We shouldn't be giving you stuff that isn't approved by the Center. Oh, and hide it well too."
"Of course, of course," Isabel replied, slipping the test into her sweatpants and securing it in her pantyline. "Thank you again."
The nurse smiled. "I hope you get the result you want."
"You too," Isabel said with a smile herself. Still smiling, Isabel continued her way, this time to her room. Her room was on the third floor, so she headed up the stairs. Isabel was lucky and made it to her room without running into anyone else. In her room, she grabbed the plastic cup she was allowed and filled it with water from the small tap in the curtained-off bathroom.
After drinking several glasses of water in quick succession, Isabel waited for her bladder to fill again. While waiting, Isabel opened the box and read the instructions multiple times. She didn't want to misread the test. Finally, Isabel felt nature's call, and she went behind the curtain with the test.
When she was done, Isabel looked at the test impatiently. Still sitting on the toilet, she waited. Then, slowly, the blue started to appear: positive.
(New Music Friday) Music Royalty, Multi-Award Winning Singer-Songwriter and Producer, LALAH HATHAWAY Releases Her Anticipated Eighth Studio Album, "VANTABLACK" (TODAY)…
Music royalty and multi-award winning singer-songwriter-producer and activist, LALAH HATHAWAY is gearing up for the release of her anticipated eighth studio album, "VANTABLACK", which is globally available now, via the Hathaway Entertainment/SRG-ILS Group (Virgin Music Group) label imprint. The 16-track masterpiece, features an all-star line-up that includes the likes of; Common, MC Lyte, Rapsody, Michael McDonald, Phonte, Gerald Albright and WILLOW.
Lalah Hathaway comments, "VANTABLACK was always the name of the project. I started reframing how I saw color, in terms of being the blackest I've ever been and even though I'm steeped in who I am, it doesn't exclude the other things that make up the sum of me. Similar to how all the music around me informs the black music that I create. So it's all a melting pot of all of me."
The VANTABLACK Era, was introduced to music lovers abroad with the release of the official single, "SO IN LOVE." The mid-tempo tune is already a certified Billboard R&B Top 20 song as it is currently #18 on the Billboard charts. ‘So In Love’ was written by Philip Beaudreau and I a couple years ago with the intention to pitch it, but we loved it so much and decided to sit with it for a while. I’ve recently added it to my show and it’s one of the most beloved pieces that we perform." ‘So In Love’ has such a vibe and like a lot of the work i do, it explores some of the more non traditional ideas about love, and self love. The video does this on a grand scale!", she adds.
The next early-offerings from "VANTABLACK" included the up-tempo and already fan-favorite song, "I AM". "I Am, I think people will be delighted to hear me with some tempo! I’m always trying to figure out how to apply these lush tones over dance music! How can i be featured on the subwoofer in your G Wagon? This is a 4 on the floor full of positive affirmation…I think i may have cracked the code!," shares Lalah. The third song to be released from the album was the sensual, "MOOD FOR YOU" featuring MC Lyte.
Lalah Hathaway just announced the upcoming VANTABLACK TOUR national tour, coming to a city near you. For additional information and tour dates, visit www.LalahHathaway.com.
