So erm, apparently United have agreed a deal with Sporting for Geovany Quenda; the 17-year-old RWB brought through to the first team by Ruben Amorim... huh.

It's no secret that Manchester United desperately need to fix up in the wing-back positions. It's a key trait of Amorim's playstyle and not something that anyone prior really utilised.

That being said, United are imminently about to confirm Patrick Dorgu signed from Lecce to come into LWB, Diego Leon the teenager is arriving in the summer (when he will have turned 18), and that should solve our left side issue.

That leaves the right. Mazraoui isn't a RWB. He excels at RCB. Dalot isn't a LWB, he's a RWB, but even then we're not sure of his quality. Faulty United teams post-Fergie have made it hard to prove who's mint and who isn't, who's having a purple patch and who's found their groove.

One player who is definitively mint though is Geovany Quenda.

Reported above in Portugal's A Bola sports newspaper, the floated transfer fee rumour is that United will pay £50 million for the prodigious young Portuguese talent - €59.78 million if you want to get fiddly. Also, don't be surprised if that becomes €60 million and equates to £50.12 million or something soft.

A Bola was founded 80 years ago so they must be doing something right to stay in business, so there's a good chance this deal is legit - and we know Amorim loves Quenda and vice versa.

The young starlet posted on Instagram following Amorim's departure for United, saying: “Thank you for believing in me and letting me play for the club I love, a big hug and good luck in the future, mister”.

Quenda would become the 6th Portuguese United player after Ronaldo, Dalot, Bruno, Nani, and Bebe - though technically Joel Castro Pereira the keeper is Portuguese too, he just wasn't born there. He would also be the 4th from Sporting.

Turning 18 at the end of April, Quenda has some impressive metrics to his name - with Finn aka Academy Scoop quite giddy about him. Finn actually co-hosts a show on the Stretford Paddock youtube channel about United's academy performances and transfer prospects, so I'd expect an update in the next week on Quenda...

Regardless, signings in Dorgu and Quenda are the sort of things that could really unleash United next season - even with the customary adaptation period to a new, strong league. If United can sort out a new no10 (or fix Mason Mount) and bag a new CF who can actually consistently score goals, suddenly the fortune of the Red Devils might switch around - and switch sharply.

Erik Ten Hag was criticised, as was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for a lack of definable playstyle. Arteta had it, Klopp had it, Slot has it, even Ange has it despite it being wank. We now have something evident under Amorim, and we showed it in the second half versus FCSB last night. We also showed what makes it work and what doesn't, and new signings like Quenda are exactly what we need in terms of pace, athleticism, and urgency to take United back to being a side that's fun to watch.

They might be pissing me off lately, but this would be a good move from INEOS to trust Amorim and trust the process.

Update: The ever-reliable David Ornstein says no such deal has been agreed and that United are simply in discussions at present. That's a little disappointing, however a reduced fee to €40 million would mean two hot prospect wing backs for €70 million. Sensational work.
