personnaly i’m of the opinion that you should considere any action of any state to be entirely justified and the the best they could have done
once you did that then you can delve on how horrible it was, on how much it flouted the stated honorable value of said state, on the ideological and socio-economo-geopolotical reason and justification behind it, on the ramification of the action, on how the action was received internaly and internationaly, on the possibility and likeliness than some other action could have been taken (while still being aware that would those action have been taken then they themself would be obviously entirely justified and the best they could have done)

Tell me why genocide and ethnic cleansing has to be dumbed down in a misogynistic way for some pop news shit where you basically think it's appropriate to talk about geopolotical issues while playing with dolls. There's multiple levels of depravity to what you're doing.

Mother, a STEM major: why don't they teach people this history in school anymore
Me, a historian with a background in education: because curricula tend to focus on 19th and 20th century history. If you really want to do this justice, you'd have to delve in the geopolotics of the 30 years war, you'd have to cover regional governance structures and you'd have to explain the rise of protestantism by giving people an inkling about the schism that resulted in the formation of the orthodox and the catholic church in the first place-
My mother: can you stop talking about it, nobody cares!
Me: well you wanted to know why this is why!

If yall love Clytemnestra, lemme introduce you to Medea.
Shot by the arrow of love on Hera's orders to fall for the Greek hero whose name I can't be fucked to remember right now
Helped the hero accomplish impossible tasks set by her father. Assists given via an invulnerability potion for her father's Just Die Already trials, and how to defeat the tasks quickly
Hero promises to marry her when she asks to leave with them, as her family discovered her betreyal and now want her dead
Stop off on an island for the Hero's Main Quest MacGuffin, get married there so the king won't deport Medea back to her family that Wants To Kill Her so I think we can call this more of a human trafficking situation now
Greek Hero doesn't get his promised reward because Meadea's no nonsense "Murder People Before They Murder Or Put You In Chains" attitude made some gaps in the local geopolotics + some enemies
Greek Hero decides to BETRAY HIS PATRON GODDESS, HERA, OF MARRIAGE AND FAMILY TO START COURTING A PRINCESS, cause all boi ever wanted was to be king and his badass sorceress wife was filed under Perks in his mind.
Medea takes this poorly and plans a murder, secures a getaway plan, executes it all perfectly, and ESCAPES THE CITY ON THE CHARIOT OF HELIOS AFTER ROASTING HER SHITTY HUSBAND and leaving him, never canonically dying as far as we've discovered primary sources of her character.
Greek Hero Wannabe ex husband dies taking a nap beneath the prow of his old ship, rot in the wood causing a collapse and crushing him.
youtube
Highly reccomend this video summary of the myth, easily some of Red's best work along side the Journey To The West mega project.
99% of all murders committed by women in ancient greek plays are completely justified

lrb i think a thing a lot of folks just straight up don't know is that italy, as much as it is now extremely white and it has heavily contributed to european colonialism so it can't be defended from that, was in turn invaded a ton (and i mean A TON) of times from every single side in the time that went from the fall of the roman empire all the way to the unification in 1861, which is why there's such a vast variety with dialects and cultures between regions
which means more often than not if you find medieval italian stuff that's against "the outisder" it's actually about the invader <3 the more you know

Solo i beni materiali possono scambiarsi. #μολὼνλαβέ #economia

I feel like with the election of trump in America proved people are to dumb for democracy. The president is the head of the military and appoints a huge number of our leaders. It shouldnt be up to a popularity contest to choose him/her. Especially since barely anyone knows enough about economics/geopolotics/government/choose-ur-subject to legitimizes their opinion on who should be president. Only people educated enough to have an intelligent opinion should be legitimate. We need free college too
There’s a simple solution then: abolish the presidency. Tear down the corrupt state apparatus that only serves the interests of capital accumulation. Bring social organization down to directly-democratic interconnected federations and stop concentrating power into the hands of bureaucrats and capitalists. Trump absolutely shouldn’t have that much power, but that’s not the fault of the American people as though it exists in some isolated vacuum. The Democrats elevated Trump to the seat thinking he would be an easy defeat; the neoliberal status quo bred social unrest on both ends of the political spectrum; a rich sexual predator douchebag with no experience was allowed to weasel his way into the elections in the first place. A bullshit political system crafted by elite slaveowners to prevent genuine direct democracy of economic power laid the groundwork for this to happen eventually. Plenty of people voted for Trump out of racism and xenophobia, definitely, but to ignore the fact that racism and xenophobia thrive under divide-and-rule capitalism in the first place is to ignore the root cause.
People aren’t “too stupid for democracy” – that’s reactionary, elitist propaganda. We don’t even have full democracy as it is, so how can you even be a sufficient judge of that idea? We sure as hell don’t have democracy throughout most of our lives – most of the time we take orders from people higher up a corporate chain. First we need economic democracy and THEN we can have the discussion about whether or not people are “too stupid” for it.
