RIGHT? yuki is not only having fun with his own gender expression but he's actively encouraging others to do the same! his pronoun energy is so potent it's contagious. and on top of that he does struggle with the stigma he faces because of it! hes picked on by his peers and though he puts on a strong face we've seen him break down because of it! but its his passion and he doesnt let that stop him! he has a very meaningful arc about how much he loves fashion and cute things and thats okay <3 meanwhile saioji is um

this man is transphobic lets be fucking real now, look at how he treats the characters who ACTUALLY break gender norms in-universe. hes upholding the patriarchy as strongly as he can, in order to go back to abusing anthy so he can run away from his gay crush on his childhood bestie. saionji is a great character (not a great person), and rgu is an amazing show with a lot of deeply woven themes about gender and gender roles... but lets not forget what he actually stands for here! he has veeeerry warped ideals about gender and what it means, and YES a lot of this (if not all of it) is actively a facade he has to live up to within the ridged patriarchal structure of ohtori. so im not saying he has no pronouns whatsoever but... whatever pronouns he has are absolutely repressed as hell, hidden behind 20 layers of misogyny and toxic masculinity, and they dont hold a candle to a character doing literally the opposite of what he is (embarrassing this difference and sharing it with others!)

but yeah its a bit apples to oranges- utena and a3 are veeeerry different stories. but if you strip away all the meta surrounding either of them and just look at the characters on their faces, you're left with "guy with a passion for cute feminine fashion who actively defies gender norms despite what people say" vs "guy who's so repressed in any possible deviance of gender norms that he plays up machismo to the absolute most toxicly masculine degree possible"

this shouldnt be a contest! But people are going based off popularity... and also all of yuki's iconic looks (that he designed himself!) put that one apron saionji wore to shame
