It's not even his birthday in my timezone yet, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY, beloved! I have not finished anything specific for today, but I have many WIPs (2D, 3D and a longfic):

Writings

First, here is my long fic, Nameless. I will actually turn this into a trilogy, and while the first volume is a canon-compliant Old Mondstdt fic (almost finished, 1 more month give or take), the second volume will be from Venti's POV as he rewinds time multiple times to try to prevent the bard's death. As for volume 3, well, you'll see :>

I sadly couldn't participate in Venti's week here on tumblr, but well, I'm already juggling bigger projects xD

2D arts

Posted on tumblr and twt, my Venti in a cage art. I made a colored version (not as polished as I wanted but still), and a lineart version too:

I also have this Xiaoven wip (I'm a multishipper). It's really far from done yet. I'm kinda happy with the lighting and expressions so far.

This art uses Hamelin's Xiao design, that I created in 3D for a mod (model and textures by me, and the weights were by mimo4e)

I found this AI art and really wanted to fix it. I expected it to be a quick paintover, but kept finding more things I wanted to change, and trying to match the rendering style to the original, so I spent at least 7 hours on my version.

3D models

I stopped making my models public (although old ones can still be downloaded from my gamebanana page, or from mimo4e page since we used to collaborate a lot), BUT, if you are a civilized person who credits mods that you showcase, feel free to request access in my SFW Mods discord server. The xiao mod above and these Venti mods, save the Nameless Bard, are only shared in my server.

Here is everything you need to know about mods in 2024. PC only, free, and no one has ever been banned for using fanskins since mods are not cheats, but that post explains a lot more and teaches you how to use them (it's simple).

Archon skins (5 of them!)

» Update on Murren's Archon mod: On this mod specifically. I contributed to the original version still on GB, but I wanted to give it more shadows, a more magical hair with special highlights, and updated skirt and wings. The wings are made of the feather he uses in his canon outfit, since many fans headcanon he had wanted to give that feather taken from his wings to the bard.

» Moon butterfly: Inspired by that AI paintover I did and shard above, some elements are kitbashed from both honkai games.

» Corrupted Venti: I will make my own design, you can see the sketch there. It's inspired by all of the other arts, sources are: 1 2 3 4

» The statue design. This one doesn't need explanations.

» Fontaine Venti: It's a kitbash, with parts from Project Sekai and parts from Herta from HSR

» Liyue Venti: Sculpted and textured by me, adapting an old 2D design I also made, with some changes due to modding complications. It's the least developed WIP for now

In my server (with restricted access), I have also created Amos and the Red-haired warrior (both kitbashes with minimal modeling from scratch on my part), and I will create Gunnhildr and Decarabian next. Full credits for everything, like the sources of parts and helpers, are/will be in the post of each of the models. You can see my Amos and Bard render here (there are 2 versions).

Diluc’s model is even worse

okay so decided to add to Diluc’s freaky model today by pointing out more odd things about him.

So most character models in the game don’t have noticeably moving pupils in their idle animations. Albedo and Rosaria are the two outliers (as in their pupils noticeably look in a different direction than straight forward)  and it doesn’t start being common in models until Kujou sara and afterwards. Basically until Sara all their eyes are doing are changing size when they blink and emotions are expressed by the shape of their eye etc etc. So that means most models have a bit of a freaky bug eyed stare HOWEVER this is quite easily offset by the characters’ static facial expressions as well as the ones they make in animation and so it’s not really that noticeable or off putting. EXCEPT FOR DILUC. the size and placement of the eyes on his model as well as the fact his whole face barely moves, AS WELL AS HIS BIRD ANIMATION make that bug eyed stare so painfully obvious- im talking specifically when he nods at dawn. so because his eyes and pupils are: 1) very large 2) placed in that way 3)dont move AT ALL  4)And he doesn’t have any other expressive facial animation he looks even weirder. i love my freaky little freak thank you for reading

As a Chinese person swarmed by western media, Liyue means so, so much to me. Seeing the culture that I've been taught to be ashamed of all my life being represented so accurately and positively makes me incredibly happy. It was the first time I saw the famous landscapes that I've visited in person and recreated a fantasy game. Seeing characters wear clothes with similar designs to what I’ve worn and eating similar foods to what I’ve eaten, is indescribable. The euphoria I felt when I first climbed atop of Qingyun Peak and heard the music is something I wish I could experience again.

That being said, Sumeru was a mess, and Natlan is just depressing. What I would give to have people from SEA/SWANA, Latin America, Africa, and Indigenous groups etc. to feel the same way I did when strolling through Liyue.

HYV’s colorism isn’t just stifling their character designs; by whitewashing real-life people, real cultures and even their deities, they are inadvertently whitewashing history. They are taking from actual ethnic groups: learning their history and struggles, then retelling these narratives after replacing their people with bleached protagonists in orientalist clothing.

All this because of what? Out of touch beauty standards? The possibility of lower sales? Dehya is extremely loved in China and her fans donated thousands to a children’s charity in her name. Other Chinese companies like Lilith Games and Bluepoch don’t have this problem. Dislyte is able to consistently pump out gorgeous character designs with varying skin tones and Reverse:1999 makes accurate designs and does in-depth research into the cultures of their characters.

It’s a basic lack of respect.

I've heard that Iranian players were extremely happy and touched by their representation, and that's amazing. And most European, Chinese, and Japanese players are fine with theirs. I just wish this extended to the representation of people with skin tones that are darker.

HYV has shown that they are capable of making characters with darker skin tones and interesting designs, but they will only do that for npcs and enemies. Orientalism, culture mash-ups and inaccuracies across regions is unfortunately common in the game, but the problem with the unchanging pale color of playable characters reflects an obvious and sinister bigotry. I do personally believe that a lot of this has to do with the meddling of higher-ups; many playable characters look like they’ve been white-washed at the end of the process, and just from an art/design standpoint, they fit darker skin-tones much, much better.

It is impossible for Genshin to be a fully “fictional fantasy game” because they chose to bear the responsibility of incorporating real life cultures into their world-building. The criticisms about Sumeru and Natlan are what they brought upon themselves. If you don’t want to represent properly, don’t do it at all. You cannot take everything from a culture and leave their people out of it. They deserve the same respect and research as the region representing your own nation.

For the people who have seen themselves represented in media over and over again, or for those who do not care about being represented at all: even if YOU don't care, others do, and they have a damn good reason for it. This is a big deal, it isn’t too much to ask for, and I will be blocking racists. Peace.

WIP of the Redhead warrior from Old Mondsdtat

Likely a Ragnvindr, but I don't usually call him that since the clan didn't exist back then xD Also, it's a partial kitbash from Project Sekai because I'm writing a pretty [big old mondsatdt fic](I'm so glad that people are loving it :3) and that means I don't have as much time for 3D modeling and genshin mods.

Cloak will be toggable in the game. Also, since we can't mod face shape and height, he 1) will go over Diluc 2) I tried to paint the inside of he eye to make the eye look smaller and used other tricks to try to hide Diluc's bad model that has the eyes below the level of any other tall male character

And yes, you read well, mods. They are free, pc-only, are not cheats and don't change gamefiles, and no one has ever been banned just for using fanskins, in a huge huge community of people modding. I made a post clarifying everything [here].

I don't post my mods publicly anymore (since people can't credit me and collaborators for their life, and all of my many works ended upload somewhere else). The bard is still in my profile on gamebanana but Amos I only have accessible in my server, and the same is true for all mods I make now. But I give access quite easily, you just have to reach out to me. I'm Anilyan both on discord and gamebanana.

I also intend to make Gunnhildr and Decarabian in the future, and rig them for rendering ^^ If anyone wants to make the convert from mod to a proper rig, I honestly accept the help, and I don't mind sharing my blend files with trustworthy people (since the mods don't include the blend)

Red-haired warrior / Ragnvindr predecessor 3D model

First of all, Chapter 13 of my old mondstadt fic is out, you can read it [here] ^^ And chapter 14 will be out in one or 2 days.

I also finally posted the red-haired warrior as a mod, so now we have him besides my models of Amos and the bard.

Outfit kitbashed from Project Sekai, although I changed many things. Cloak weights and some fixes by mimo4e.
